Kagurazaka Sushi Rin - Review - Kagurazaka - Tokyo - The Infatuation

"Sushi Rin is located in the quieter Kagurazaka neighborhood, and it’s a really nice option if you’ve never done an omakase before, don’t want to spend too much, or just want a more relaxed experience. That’s not to say the fish isn’t incredible. There are bits like grilled thick slices of scallops stuffed into nori, a bowl of ikura, crab, and raw shrimp, and yellowtail that’s been slightly kissed on the grill. The chefs are friendly, know a decent amount of English, and will probably tell you their life story if you ask." - Carlo Mantuano

One of the best eating experiences of my life! My wife and I loved every bite of each intricately put together dish. Our chef was so kind and explained each dish to us, and even ran out to thank us and give us a gift for the restaurant's anniversary. He went above and beyond to give us a great night and last day of our vacation.

My wife and I came here for our first ever Omakase experience and it was well worth it. A beautiful restaurant where you are up close to the brilliant chefs. It is an art form in itself watching them prepare the courses. The sushi is exceptional! Service is top notch. For foreign tourists there is no English menu (only drinks of course) but the sushi chefs and waiters/waitresses can guide you through the menu. Definitely recommend trying their sake selection as well.

Absolutely delicious and master here is very friendly. The rice is just right and they change the rice vinegar depending on the seafood which makes it a perfect combination. They are quite flexibly and will change the sushi depending on your likes and dislikes. It was an absolute entertainment to eat and watch them make sushi. Will definitely come back again for their food, quality and service.

An unbelievable night at sushi Rin. Located in a small dark alley off the main drag. In what like like an apartment complex, on the second floor, lies this absolute gem, hiding some of the best omakase we’ve ever had. Go in with an empty stomach and be prepared to roll out full with some of the best quality fish in the world.

What an amazing experience. You wouldn't expect to find such an elegant place on the 2nd floor of a building as you turn down this small street. We got the 8000 yen lunch omakase (per person) and it was such a surprise how pleasant everything was. The vibe, the food, the staff. All excellent. Thank you Suzuki-san for an awesome last day in Japan.

Lunch omakase only 5000yen per person. Extremly high quality like fancy michelin ones in ginza. Reservation only and only 6people per day during the lunch time.

Yelp
I don't remember how I happened upon this place; whether it was scrolling on Instagram, or by perusing through recommendations on TableCheck/Omakase? All I know is, members of our party had wanted to try an omakase experience, and we had agreed to do one fancy one and one cheaper one (don't knock Mantensushi; they were awesome for the price). I don't know why Kagurazaka Sushi Rin doesn't have a Michelin Star, because it absolutely should. The restaurant is nestled in a neighborhood in Shinjuku and can be easily missed because their signage is very simple and plain. We went up to the second floor and were greeted by the host, who took our jackets and hung them in the closet, and escorted us to our seats. We chose bar seating so that we could get the full experience, and it was nothing short of amazing. We started with grilled clam and a tiny tasting of clam soup. This may sound ridiculous, but that tiny shot of clam soup blew us out of the water, and was easily one of our favorites of the night. We then moved on and were able to try different cuts of Tuna, some nigiri rolls, uni, octopus, yellowtail, ikura, shrimp, squid, mackerel, swordfish, and surf clam. The presentation and skill in which our courses were served to us was intimate, delicate, and supremely delicious. Our sushi chef was personable, attempted to teach us Japanese (we tried our best), and laughed as we "Ooh"d and "Ahhh"d after every bite. When we left, he came down with us, escorted us out, gave us his business card, and told us to visit him again soon. My descriptions won't give this place the justice is deserves. Look at the photos, and add this place onto your itinerary! It's a must try. And they need a Michelin Star!
