We went for lunch special bento boxes and some apps. Well priced and mediocre quality.

Excellent little corner restaurant serving lunch specials averaging $10. Seating may be limited and the interior is minimalist chic. Service is friendly. I had the chicken katsu curry that was accompanied by either soup or salad. Both were delicious. The chicken curry came in a large bowl with the curry on one side. I will probably be back to try the sushi.

I had lunch at Kai yesterday, and it was delicious (especially the yummy miso soup!). The waitress was super-nice and helpful, and the place was clean and cozy. Highly recommended.

Google
Quiet little place for lunch on a Sunday. Waitress very nice and age tofu pretty delicious. The sushi rolls are on the smaller side but they are cheaper than other places around the area. I'd come back

Good quality of food and attention. Recommend 👍

Google
Suuuuuuusshhiiiiiii.... Ha ha. Loved this pace, the server was an awesome young guy and very attentive. The food is amazing. Although it is this small corner place, and I guess can accommodate may be 12 people at once, what makes it special is the food and attention to detail. The food is not super expensive. As a person who enjoys sushi to the core, I was surprised by the freshness of the food and how simple and great everything tasted. I was a little disappointed by the Ramen, which is not a regular menu item, would recommend all of you to try the dimsums(i know they are not called dimsums, 😋)

Google
Definitely not the most atmospheric place in town, but the food is really spot on and the staff are incredibly friendly.

I came into Philadelphia from NY for a weekend getaway although I was hesitant I tried Kai. I fell in love the service great the ambiance great and most important the food wonderful. After my first dine I came back the next day it was that good. The Volcano Sushi Roll is like heaven on earth along with the soft shell crabs. Those were my favorites but everything I had was great. Try it you will NOT be disappointed. Thank me later!

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday at 4:30pm. No one else in the restaurant but it had a good review so we decided to pop in and we're all glad we did! Food was all delicious and quick and the waitress was nice. The restaurant plays cute music and the ambiance is nice, modern, and clean. We also got boba teas. The thai had a smokey flavor but the taro was the best one! Will be returning back here.

Lange H.

Yelp
I have always passed by this restaurant and never considered trying it until recently. It's a cute little restaurant with a friendly staff. Once I tried the sashimi, I knew it would be one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Philly. The fish melted into my mouth and tasted so fresh. The fish is also a thick and long cut which makes me feel like everything is worth the price.

Alexandria R.

Yelp
I needed a quick lunch spot by a workspace I found in Philly and this was open. I got takeout because that is the only option during the time of this review. Food + Price: 4/5 I ordered a side of octopus sashimi and salmon don for ~$25 and it was decent. The fish was good and the food come out fast. I also got a three roll special which was ~$18 and it was a great deal! They were very friendly and it did not break the bank. All in all, I would definitely go again for a quick sushi fix by this work space.

Aree M.

Yelp
Love their sushi and sashimi. Generally, the food is good but was not a fan of their chicken teriyaki. Other than that, I would definitely order their sushi.

Rula R.

Yelp
What a nice surprise to come across this restaurant! The place is small but warm and the service was very friendly and quick! Delicious sushi at a decent price.

John Michael S.

Yelp
Kai Sushi is good! Their special rolls are better than their standard rolls. I think their standard rolls are a little rice heavy. Their prices are fair and a great space for a date. Their service is really strong and great.

Kristyn S.

Yelp
This place is great!!!! We order out here about once a month! Always fresh!!! Always yummy! Love to check out the restaurant eat in, just haven't gotten there yet.

Linda Y.

Yelp
I stopped by here for lunch, and I ordered Chicken katsu curry don with salad as part of their lunch menu. It was nice, and as they are only take out, either you order ahead or you order at the door. Just make sure the staff know that you are waiting, because you can't really see anything from when you order at the door.

Semora R.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from this restaurant while staying in Rittenhouse & between them and Qu, I would always recommend both. They paid attention to my instructions, the mango cheesecake was flavorful, and the sushi was filling(which is rare). The next time I am in town I will definitely be having food from there, whether it's take-out or sit in.

Caroline S.

Yelp
I normally wouldn't order raw fish for delivery, but I had a good feeling about Kai. They exceeded my expectations! The salmon nigiri was some of the freshest, most tender, and flavorful I've ever had for the price. The three roll combo did not skimp on size or quality. My order was ready within about 10 minutes, which I almost couldn't believe. Everything was presented and packaged neatly. I highly recommend ordering delivery from Kai!!!!

PhillyByTheCupfu L.

Yelp
Simply put: No! The California roll was well put together and tasted as expected, according to my little brother. However, my avocado and cucumber roll looked as if whoever was preparing it was fired and told to prepare one last order before making their exit. If you can look past the glare in my photo, you'll see a sorry excuse for a green roll. I had fried veggie gyoza, too, and it was mediocre. Pass on this place.

Laura G.

Yelp
INEDIBLE. I ordered from Kai on NYE with the ChowBus promotion and it ruined my night. The food I received was disgusting. The salmon tartare was brown. I'm still not sure it wasn't tuna. The negihama don was poorly prepared and just the bad pieces of fish they trimmed and didn't use for sushi. Too chewy and disgusting to eat. The White Tiger roll had too much red pepper flakes that you couldn't taste anything else. I asked for my money back and was only given a fraction of it for one dish. I have never received such a terrible sushi delivery. I do not know how Kai could stand by this food. Look at the pics- The first is what's been pictured of the Salmon Tartare on Yelp and the other is what I got. What do you think? I think NEVER AGAIN.

Tina L.

Yelp
I enjoyed the sushi here! I got the three roll combo and also the okonomiyaki fries! The fries was okay! I felt it needed more on top! I forgot to take a picture! The sushi was good and I definitely would get more sushi next time! I had ordered from grubhub!

Solomon D.

Yelp
I have lived 1 block away from this place for a year and finally got in to check them out during COVID 19, and so glad we did! Ordering on the phone was easy. Minimal contact when you pick up your takeout. Everything was packaged nicely and of all the Japanese take out we've had, this was the warmest/most freshly cooked stuff we've had. Everything was just delicious! Had the avocado salad which came with the usual ginger sauce but there was something extra in it that just made it unique and delicious. The pork gyoza were so crispy! Even the edamame had just the perfect amount of salt on them and were nice and warm. Had two special sushi rolls as entrees both of which were excellent. Although honestly...the appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. Also got matcha boba tea which was good too. Only complaint is that the special sushi rolls were in VERY large pieces that either would completely fall apart if you took a bite out of them or were too large to put in your mouth at one time. Glad to finally check this place out as it was some of the best sushi/Japanese takeout we've had during the pandemic. Check them out for sure!

Abir R.

Yelp
It's a very decent sushi place in Philly. The food's not bad, it's not really the best either. There's zero indoor eating, everything is takeout only.

O C.

Yelp
I love to pick up sushi from here. Currently they are doing take out and no eat in. I usually order udon noodle soup for my kids and I get sushi from there. Everything on the menu is good and fresh. The customer service is excellent and it is right on the corner of 10th and market st. There is a temporary parking spot right outside. I love this place!

Qin Z.

Yelp
I ordered through ritual and it was ready really fast. Took about 10-15 mins for their curry chicken katsu meal and a yuzu cheese cake. The chicken katsu was nicely fried. Crispy and the chicken wasn't dry and a little juicy. It was fried slightly too long, but wasn't too big of a difference. The curry itself was really thick and gives you a sense of potatoes being there almost like they pureed potatoes into it. It would be great if there was some dice potatoes. The curry flavor itself was a bit too mild for me, but wasn't too bad. The miso soup was nicely done. Overall a good meal that is bound to fill you up. The yuzu cheesecake was delicious, but portion size wise a big disappointment for its price. Literally I could fit that whole thing inside my mouth in one bite. Super creamy with a nice note of citrus. Overall a decent meal. If I could do half stars I would rate it 3.5/5. Food was nicely cooked with alright flavors. Nothing that blows your mind, but they do the food justice. Only thing that was disappointing was the portion of the yuzu cheesecake.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Very impressed! Walked passed Kai and stopped in because the yelp reviews were so good. And they were right!! I love how everything on the menu shows a photo, it made it much easier to choose what food I wanted. We got one raw tuna appetizer and three rolls. (See photos). Everything was delicious and it came out quick. The best part about it is the prices which I thought were extremely well priced for the great quality sushi and serving sizes you got. If I'm ever in this neighborhood again I will definitely come back to eat here! Delicious food , great atmosphere, fast service, and great prices!

Ilene E.

Yelp
We came for a visit on a Tuesday night. It's a modern dim interior. Not many people dining but tons of tons picking up takeout because of its location right near market street. We got the king salmon, hot sea, vegetable roll, sweet potato roll, inari roll and the vegetable tempera. I recommend getting anything with the sweet potato. The texture was delicious.

Susan K.

Yelp
I've ordered takeout from this place multiple times and they never disappoint! Ordered their Chirashi this time around and it was ready in less than 15 minutes. The Chirashi came with miso soup and salad and the portion size was great. It also came in nice packaging. Definitely going to be ordering from here again!

Michelle T.

Yelp
97 degrees + 106 degrees real feel = we both wanted something cool for dinner. Nothing cooked please! A quick search led us to Kai, which is just a few short blocks away from our hotels (The Loews and the Marriott). The decor is gorgeous and really stood out - it was very sleek and modern. Very clean and crisp lines. Our waitresses were very nice and I love how they use tablets to take orders. We both had the sushi dinner set which comes with soup, salad, your choice of maki roll, and 8 pieces of chef's choice sushi. They bring it out in a lacquered platter, which I was a nice touch. Rolls were nicely sized - 8 pieces. The sushi was also very fresh. All in all, a good deal for $20! They seem to do a lot of take out, as I saw quite a few people coming in to pick up their orders. Highly recommended if you're looking for a sushi spot around the conference center area.

Annie K.

Yelp
Their lunch specials (bento boxes) are delicious. I've had the chicken katsu and gyu don - both are yummy! Chicken katsu is crispy and freshly fried. The bento comes with 2 gyoza and you can opt for veggie or pork. Rice to beef ratio in gyu don is a little off - too much rice, but still worth the $10 overall. Service is excellent. 10% off if you pay in cash.

Ruby D.

Yelp
I ordered take out tonight, it was ready in 10 minutes so I was very suspicious! Perhaps they just weren't busy tonight because the sushi was very good, fresh and tasty. Except for the octopus which was like rubber, I actually could not even chew it so I had to throw it out. If it weren't for the octopus I would give this place five stars, I would definitely buy sushi from here again.

Nisha C.

Yelp
I bought a Groupon for this place a couple of months ago but it was expiring soon so I headed over here last night. The place was super empty on a Thursday night, not that I really cared. The ambience was modern and I loved the decor. Felt like an upscale sushi place. I ordered an avocado roll and sweet potato roll and both were SO YUMMY! I also ordered a vegetable roll to go. Definitely recommend!

Michelle C.

Yelp
It's official: Kai is our official go-to for the three roll combo. The combo is on their menu for lunch or dinner, which is great, and there are quite a few choices so you can mix it up each time. The combo comes with soup or salad and the ingredients are always very fresh. A winner for weeknight sushi delivery!

Allison P.

Yelp
Consistently delicious! Salmon nigiri, salmon avocado and yellowtail scallion rolls are the absolute best! Tastes super fresh and so much better than any other place we have tried for delivery. It's our go-to. Thank you Kai!

Virginia B.

Yelp
I love this place. Their agadashi tofu is through the roof delicious and always arrives at a great temperature. The three roll special is an amazing deal, I can't say enough great things about this place. They are very professional, one of my absolute favorite go-to spots for takeout.

Cristina P.

Yelp
Got a quick bite to eat here while I was in the area. I got 2 rolls for $10 and a side salad for the lunch deal which was fantastic! The salad had a delicious tangy, gingery flavor to it, and the rolls were extremely fresh and flavorful. The food was so good that I decided to order some Gyoza to snack on later in the day and they were hands down, the most delicious Gyoza I have ever tried. I got the vegetarian ones and they were full of amazing flavors. They had edamame in them which was a great surprise. Between the ambiance, service, and food, this place deserves 5/5 stars.

Jess T.

Yelp
Great lunch bento box. Ordered from ritual and it was ready right away. Portion size was great as well. The shrimp had SO much batter on it. I actually took it all off with my hands because I knew I would get a stomach ache. Everything is very fried. Not the best bento box but great for the money.

Lily C.

Yelp
Ordered on Ubereats. Okay food but the matcha cheesecake was 7$ for a tislice that is literally only 3 inches long. I attached a picture compared to a Coke can for reference.

Zach S.

Yelp
This review is purely for Delivery. Sushi-to-go is about as bad of an idea as eating Tide Pods. But, sometimes the craving is simply too strong. Thankfully there is an answer. I have done the dirty work and have ordered from several Sushi places through Uber Eats. In its budget price range of 15-20 per person -This place has ok sized rolls (some places have these micro rolls) -No off or worrying flavors. -the rice is good -fresh veggies with a crunch. (no brown avocado) -fish is tasty and not ...weird. If you are on a budget and in need of decent sushi this is your best option.

Ancy P.

Yelp
BF and I were looking to try a new sushi place and ventured over here on a Saturday night. My guess is that maybe this place is a more popular weekday lunch/any day take-out, because it was pretty much empty when we got there, but people kept stopping in to pick up. At first, the lack of other patrons concerned me, but these concerns quickly vanished when we got our meal. We shared the 3 roll special(salmon roll, shrimp tempura, and philly roll) and 2 of the specialty rolls (white tiger and rainbow roll). I love a good rainbow roll and Kai was no exception! BF and I devoured our meals and were really satisfied with every bite. We also thought the service, pricing, and decor were all great as well!

Christina C.

Yelp
I ordered here a couple times for lunch on my work from home days. I had placed my order through GrubHub. Delivery was quick & food was delicious. I've tried the following items: - Alligator Roll - Takoyaki - Salmon Teriyaki Bento Box Lunch All three items were great! The bento box was a decent amount of food for only $10. The roll was fresh & tasty. I've had takoyaki better at other places, but it still was pretty good. I'm definitely going to be ordering from here again. I recommend it. I usually go for Tomo, but they're closed on Mondays (the day I work from home). This is a great alternative for Japanese cuisine!

Sarah B.

Yelp
We stopped in quickly to grab a boba before leaving Philly and MAN am I glad that we did. We got a taro and a coconut, and both were simply fantastic. The taro tasted like fruity pebbles and the coconut was so silky smooth and perfectly sweet. If you find yourself wanting a boba, this is a great place to go.

Serim A.

Yelp
I stopped by here for lunch on a weekday. They have a great selection of lunch deals. I thought Fat Salmon had amazing sushi when I dined in there last week, but Kai was even better in the quality of their sushi. Crunchy spicy salmon wasn't as spicy as I expected, but still was very great, with enough fresh salmon in each piece of rolls unlike the ones from some other sushi restaurants. Crunchy bits were a little strange in appearance and taste, but not in a bad way. 4 pieces of the chef's choice nigiri were purely amazing. Sashimi tasted so fresh, rice so warm with perfect amount and texture. Miso soup was great as well-- not too salty or dense. Service was excellent. Great place to have a quick, great quality sushi for lunch by yourself or with friends.

Abraham K.

Yelp
Wow, delicious. The quality of the fish is superb. We got to try a couple classic rolls, sashimi, and udon. All of it was yummy and the fish tasted fresh and not frozen. Not that many special or heated rolls, but that's OK. Tight menu, clean restaurant, and the service is so nice and friendly.

Monica H.

Yelp
Three stars for now cuz I have yet to try their sushi... So i would definitely be updating this again. Ordered their Chicken Teriyaki lunch. It comes with a side of soup or salad. The meal also has four pieces of california roll, 2dumplings, rice, and duh, chicken. I have to say it was quite delicious. The teriyaki sauce wasn't too sweet (thank god). The dumplings were good.. For $9 or so, it was a decent size lunch. The staff all seemed friendly. Wish i had my Jefferson ID with me then I would've received a discount! lol.. Gives me more of a reason to return i guess =)

KhanhMy V.

Yelp
I came here during the grand opening weekend and did take out. I ordered grilled squid and okonomiyaki. (I just love squid and seafood in general).. The food tasted fresh and was flavored well. The grilled squid was tender and juicy. Waiting for my order, I checked out the interior design felt in love. It is simple, clean with modern touch and a hint of Asia. Too bad the space is small or else it would be even better. This location used to be Tea Talk 2. I am glad something else opened up here. Overall, a good experience and would like to come back to dine and try other food on the menu.

Jenny K.

Yelp
ordered here from uber eats for my first time and was pleased! i got the katsu w/ curry and the 3 roll specials. it took more than an hour to get to my place but everything was delicious! the only critique i would have is that the katsu wasn't very crispy, definitely would want it to be crispier next time

Angela L.

Yelp
I came here with a friend a weekday afternoon and it was completely empty so I was scared that the food was not going to be very good. Luckily I was wrong. I ordered the salmon avocado and shrimp tempura and both rolls were delicious. The space is super clean, open and comfortable. I noticed that there were lots of pick up orders so this restaurant does get a lot of business. Highly recommend coming here to get your Japanese Food fix!

Alex H.

Yelp
One of the best priced sushi places in the city, and the quality is amazing! Great handcrafted rolls-complex and interesting, but they also have some of the best basic sushi rolls around! Friendly staff and super clean environment. Will be a regular from now on

Kim R.

Yelp
We order take out quite often and it is always a great experience. Delicious special rolls. Love the Sahara roll with pink soy paper wrapper. Also the owners are very kind and generous. Highly recommend!!

Jenny D.

Yelp
We had ordered delivery for a night-in of dinner just to fill that sushi craving. Honestly thought it was a bit too pricey for a few rolls, so my expectations were slightly higher. Arrived to a mild disappointment, because the sushi was mediocre. Sushi rice was more on the squishy side, with too much rice and too little filling. Personally, that's my most important criteria for sushi which automatically puts my rating down at a mere "okay". We bought an adequate range of rolls - totally to 7 with appetizer and were still hungry after our meal. For a meal we spent $60, I was disappointed I could still eat more. The ingredients did not taste as fresh but I would recommend for anyone close within the area looking to get a quick fix of sushi.

Soara-Joye R.

Yelp
Looooved this place! Stopped by for takeout and had the nicest service and the best roll with eel shrimp and lemon! Interesting combo and one of the best rolls I've had.

Cody Y.

Yelp
A beautiful modern space, cheerful service, and good food, Kai Japanese Cuisine is another hidden gem of a sushi place in east Philly. The first thing you'll notice walking into Kai Japanese Cuisine is how beautiful the space is - well lit, all new furnishing, with seats built into the floor so you can have that traditional sitting on the ground feel...while sitting in seats. Coupled with the fact that my girlfriend and I were taking advantage of a Groupon, we were very happy just walking inside. We started our meal with the steamed pork Gyoza. A simple dish, the pork was flavorful inside the perfectly cooked wonton wrappers. For Sushi, we ordered the Rainbow Roll (California roll topped with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, white tuna, striped bass and avocado) and the Tiger Roll (Spicy salmon, cucumber, masago topped with shrimp and avocado). I'm not sure which one I enjoyed more, as they were both solid sushi, well-prepared and flavorful. We ended our meal with the Tempura Ice Cream (Green Tea and Vanilla in a Tempura crust). How they get that crust around that ice cream I'll never know, but it was more than enough for two people and a good way to end the meal. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and the overall atmosphere, and even without a Groupon it's definitely worth trying out.

Marcy F.

Yelp
First timer's take for a delivery order: closer to 4.5 yelps. The order was filled correctly, everything was packaged well, and the food arrived promptly. The (many) vegetarian rolls we tried had a good rice-to-filling ratio, were rolled properly, tasted fresh, and we appreciated that Kai offered several vegetarian roll options beyond the average avocado roll--definitely try the ume shiso and kanpyo rolls, they were great. We also ordered a few kitchen items, miso soup (no surprises) and vegetable udon (a little sweet?!); both were fine but we'd try other items first.

Michael A.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoy this sushi spot. I have ordered takeout multiple times and I am never disappointed. The specialty rolls especially the Dragon Roll, spicy salmon, yellowtail, shrimp tempura, and tuna roll are all delicious. Super fresh fish, perfectly cooked rice, and the price is outstanding, what else could I ask for? Definitely tops my list of sushi restaurants in the city.

Brittany C.

Yelp
This is my go to sushi place. The service is fast, their lunch specials are a great deal for the price, and the food is fresh. I generally get a roll combo for lunch, my go-tos are always an Alaskan Roll and a Tuna Avocado roll. It comes with a miso soup or a green salad, I've had both depending on my mood or the weather. They also have a good teriyaki bento box that is super filling for a lunch portion. They oddly took off all teriyaki entrees from their menu for about a year and then all of a sudden they were back. I have been here for lunch with a friend or two, but I actually come by myself more often than not. It's a quiet spot with good food that is nice for when you need to get away from the office for a little bit.

Andrew W.

Yelp
What do I do when I'm craving sushi on a Friday night and don't want to leave my couch after a long night of watching the Birds play? Search on Uber Eats for the best sushi near me...and I couldn't agree more with the rating for Kai Japanese Cuisine. The 3 roll special for $13 is more than enough maki rolls for such a low price, it's hard to beat!! I ordered the 3 roll special with a spicy tuna roll, and salmon roll, and a California roll. As if that already wasn't plenty of food, I also ordered some steamed pork dumplings. Total was under $20 for a meal that could've fed 4 people no joke. Uber Eats had it in my hands in less than 30 minutes and man was it delicious. I ate every last piece of sushi and and every last piece of dumpling. Very impressed with the food and will most certainly be ordering from here again!

Nicole V.

Yelp
Awesome sauce! We have been here before and everything from the steamed shrimp shumai to the seaweed salad to the sushi rolls were excellent! Also, it's byob! Will def return.
