Kaieteur Restaurant

I was searching for doubles since the other roti shop closed because of a fire. I googled and found this place while on white plains road. I called for pick up but I didn’t have cash but luckily they accepted Apple Pay. I got doubles and roti which were both good. The doubles came with cucumber, tamarind sauce and pepper sauce. I went back a second time and got the house special fried rice, absolutely delicious. Next time I’ll get it without the imitation crab. There are a lot of Caribbean treats to sweeten your tooth while you wait. I’ll be back.

Stopped by on an early Saturday afternoon for takeout. Although White Plains road is pretty busy, that particular stretch isn't too bad...there were a few metered spot available on White Plains road within a block or so from the restaurant. The space is small and narrow. They had a few bakery items (plait bread/tennis rolls...about $3 each) along the left side, bagged and ready for purchased. On the right are hot foods (curry, stews...) you can buy. I ended up ordering a chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein (about $12 each) and purchased a few pre-packaged bakery items. The food was ready quickly in about 10 minutes. They do NOT serve pork there. The food and bakery items were good...3.5/5. Service was efficient but very straight-to-the-point. I grew up in Queens and am used to the Kaieteur and Bamboo Garden restaurants there. I believe the food at those places are a bit better than this location. The Queens locations are also bigger and have seating available. The bakery items here also aren't as good as the Queens stores...Little Guyana Bake Shop and Sybils. That being said...I've tried a few similar places in the Bronx and this was the best. Recommended if you can't make it out to Queens.

This is the second time I’m ordering from that restaurant ( curried chicken roti). Both times I was left disappointed. I got 4 small pieces of chicken in a small bowl. The chicken look like it was sitting in oily dirty water. The taste of the curry was so faint it was almost not there. Frankly the chicken was bland. I also ordered Dahl puri to go with that. What a joke! The roti was so dry and the split pea was about half a teaspoon. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. I ate it because I paid for it an I was hungry, however I’ll not be buying from them again.

Came home from work tired, didn't feel like making my homemade roti (I usually do). Stopped in here & ordered 3 oil roti...... roti was dry literally no oil & hard. Waste of time and money. Never again... waste of time and money... NO authentic Guyanese person would enjoy anything these people make. Tasteless, no seasonings & simply trash. I'll stick to cooking at home

Bought dinner for a large family with children and we all raved about the food. Flavour-bomb! Well seasoned, just enough spice for my taste and the portions are big! It’s already so difficult to get good- tasting Caribbean food in the Bronx, but now I’m super happy I tried here! My new go to restaurant

My family go-to spot when we can’t go to Hibiscus in Queens !! The food is delicious and the black pudding is tasty... seems like they have an express section so you can grab and go if you can’t wait for your order to be prepared.

The chana masala (curry chick peas) literally gave me diarrhea. It wasn't that flavorful and honestly don't think it was fresh. I gave it two stars because the taste was so so, but i won't be ordering from here again chile.

My favorite doubles place is closed, so I thought I'd try this place. The puri is not made fresh; it's kept in a cooler. The chana (chickpeas) are hard, and I like for them to be creamy. I didn't enjoy this at all. I also tried their potato and cassava balls, along with their fish cutlet, which was supposed to come with tamarind sauce, but she forgot. The balls are .50 each, and the fish cutlet was a $1 but there wasn't much fish in it? It was mostly potato? The balls didn't have much flavor either. I guess the sauce would've made them taste better. Overall, I didn't really care for anything I tried. There was a steam table with meat and chicken curries, but I didn't see any seafood or vegetarian curries. The girl working was very dismissive when I asked questions. She said they had seafood, but it was in the back. I wanted to try a fish curry, but her lack of interest made me unwilling to order food from the back. I'm not sure if I'll be heading back to try anything else. The parking here is terrible too! Happy Yelping!

If you can't make the Brooklyn run to get good roti, this is a nearby good second. Very filling.

The girl that answers the phone is always in a bad mood. I hate calling here, but they are one of the few roti shops in the Bronx... smh skip the cooked food, it tastes stale.

The food is halal it's very good I was nervous because pictures of the restaurants say they serve pork it's a lie they are certified halal My go to is curry chicken curry shrimp roti the eggplant is delicious you maybe need to season it to your liking the older sister is a sweetheart it's a little pricier than your average roti shop but the portion is larger and it's well worth your money Food: 4/5 | Service: 5/5 | Atmosphere: 1/5

Today was the first time ordering from here and it won't be the last. The food was very good and the baked good was fresh and well did. They mixed up my order.. not a big thing since the fried rice was very good. I had the curry goat, very tender and flavorful. I will for sure return soon.

Ordered from here for the first time. It's not bad, but it's not great either. The phoulorie was cold by the time it got to me and almost damp, and served with pepper sauce, which is kind of odd, as it's typically served with tamarind sauce. The curry chicken came with paratha roti, but wasn't buss up shot. The roti skin itself was fine. The curry chicken had but, but the curry sauce was the consistency of water and didn't have that yellowish color to it, which was disappointing. Not the best I've had. The best part was the jerk chicken, which was tender, boneless, and spicy. I will say that though it's billed as jerk chicken, you can tell it's not really a Jamaican recipe, as it has more of a peppery taste. Overall, 3/5. I'd be willing to try it again, but I'm on now rush. I am curious about the souse.

Duckbwas extremely dry. It's like the food was reheated in the microwave and sold. It sure does taste and look like it. Have to realize these dishes are not cheap and not worth it to have reheated food. Should be cooked fresh

This food is stale and disgusting ,it seems they don't cook fresh food ,microwave food from fridge ,never me again, very shameless, they should be shut down

It was my 1st time visit at this place after long day of work without eat nothing, i decided to give the place a chance because i love to find new places around where i'm living. i dont know the lady who sarved me name but she was very very nice & patient ,explained to me about everything. i got vegan dish, was good and fair priced [vegan mixed stuff+ box of white rice for $7.50], i will definently come back to this place again.

Bad service, ordered twice from here no forks or spoons or napkins, also they almost must be paid in cash , I know others who went there were never told that but I'm not sure why i was asked that, the second time I didn't get the forks i went back to get them and was told "you have to ask" so maybe they should say do you need forks or napkins i mean every other restaurant does that . But the girl at the front seem to not care. Food was not great , chicken is dry dry dry , rice was old i mean you're charging for old food and bad service during hard times? I know it's not just me smh

Ordered delivery from here and for the jerk chicken fried rice! It was amazing and the perfect flavor! I ordEred the roti with it on the side and it was soft and warm! I ordered it for my boyfriend to his job one day as well and he always talks about how amazing the food is! He got the curry chicken with the Roti and he orders it at least once a week! Amazing service as well and the people are so nice!

Came to visit a friend In the Bronx one weekend and we were craving some dhall puri and curry. Decided to try kaieteur since I'm from queens and know kaieteur locations in queens are pretty good. I must say the food here is awesome. If you're ever craving home style West Indian dishes in the Bronx, this is the place. Super clean and a wide variety of dishes. I got the goat curry and dhal pourie. Dhall puri was so fresh and hot with the right amount of split peas. Not everywhere gets that part right! Overall great experience and will definitely be coming back when I'm in the area.

WORST service ever. The girl at the counter is super rude and disrespectful. Went in here three times and each time she had the worst attitude. Doesn't even give you a chance to decide on what you want to order, just keeps rushing you. The food is good but dealing with her is going to turn customers away.

Ordered from uber eats and it came about about a half hour later than the estimated time. We asked for extra tamarind sauce and got none. The curried beef and oxtail had ok flavor but was tough. Made with no vegetables or extra goodness. The doubles were ok. Double needed tamarind sauce...but we did not get any in the order. Won't be ordering again.

Ok, here we go! This review is based on eating 3 times from this restaurant. 2 from DoorDash and on the 3rd one I actually went into the establishment. ‍ This is for all 3 visits.... DRY, DRY, DRY... how can channa be dry? The doubles were dry, no gravy or sauce at all compared to where I normally go to (Al's) So I ordered channa without the double... STILL DRY! If you have HBP, DONT GO HERE! Saltier than the sea. White rice OVERCOOKED! (Mushy) So i decided to visit the restaurant versus ordering from DoorDash this time. The employee... EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! The food, looked so damn dry in those plastic covered containers, not appealing at all. But I ordered what "looked" like it was fresher than the others. The rice and peas.... DRY, even though she put gravy in it, it still tasted like it was sitting there for 4 hours plus. Egg ball she suggested was delicious! But the channa, was dry as hell, the cabbage overcooked and SALTY and the potatoes just salty. I need to take my BP after tasting this because I KNOW THE SODIUM CONTENT was JUST TO DAMN HIGH. I tried them 3 times on purpose, trust.... there will NOT BE A FOURTH. OH! The pine tart was delicious though! Gordon Ramsey would NOT BE PROUD.

Just had food delivered via Uber eats and I would have to say not bad... not bad at all. I had the curry shrimp which is a small portion but good and a side of roti. I've definitely had better roti, theirs was kinda hard, but the curry sauce used for the shrimp was just right (not too spicy or sweet.) My co workers had huge chicken fried rice plates and for $8.50 it's a pretty good deal.

Catered food for a wedding which made all the guests sick with diarrhea. Lack of customer service and rude employees. Negative stars if I could.

i got the curry chicken with rice and peas and the food was honestly pretty good, especially the rice, but i ended up with severe food poisoning a few hours later. i was puking, nauseous and sick for about 7/8 hours, definitely not worth it in the end. sad to say i won't ever eat here again, not worth the risk.

The manager is very patient and helpful. This was the first time ordering for myself as opposed to having Guyanese food at a party or event, and it took me awhile to understand the pricing structure, but she was great. I ordered a meal. I opted for curried goat stuffed in a light flaky roti with chickpeas and potatoes. If you are not familiar with Roti, it's sort of like a giant flour tortilla. There is a steam table with several other options of vegetable add-ons for $1.50 each. There was some confusion about this which was why I asked for the manager; the potatoes and chickpeas **are** included in the price of the meal, and the price of the meal is determined by the meat that you order. After that additional veggies are extra. Now, I am a frugal gal with a refrigerator full of vegetables, so I opted to come home and add my own spinach and carrots. Still, if you want the option of adding extra vegetables, it is there. Since everything is already hot, preparing your meal only takes as long as it takes to dish it into a takeout container. Altogether I got three meals out of this $10 dish, so I was very happy with that. All of the flavors were excellent. The curried goat was not too spicy, although it was a bit tough and chewy, so I will try a different meat next time. The grade from sanitation is still pending, I will update when it is posted. I would definitely recommend this place to others for affordable, satisfying takeout. I was only mildly disappointed with the toughest of the meat considering it was one of your more expensive options. There are also a variety of pastries: the pineapple cake looked moist and fresh. Maybe when I'm not watching my figure. ;)

Called to order food an hr in advance & when I showed up the food hadn't even been cooked yet. They lady at the counter was very rude. Wouldn't recommend. Go to carifesta for better food and service.

Absolutely horrible. My Aunt bought a tray of vegetable lowmein, fried rice and pachouney all of which were absolutely TASTELESS. Wouldn't reccomend anything from this restaurant. The queens locations are much better compared to the stale nasty food we bought here.

This is by far the worst Caribbean restaurant. The food is dry and tasteless. They always mess up the order if you use the Uber eats app. I generally give this place 0 stars. I would be better off eating garbage.

This was my first visit to Kaieteur. I ordered to go. It took about 25-30min to receive my order of jerk chicken chow mein. I also bought cheese rolls and salara. The jerk chicken that came with the chow mein was on point...good jerk spice and tender meat. The chow mein however, was a fail. It tasted like regular Chinese lo mein. It was missing the guyanese flavor, true guyanese chow mein noodles, and had no green peas in it. It was disappointing considering the long wait. The cheese rolls were very good even though the dough isn't flaky like normal. Theirs is a softer dough but still good. The salara was also very good and sweet. I was sad that they don't have guyanese patties or pepper pot here, but I love that they have duck and lamb curry so I'll probably come back one more time to try those. Kaieteur will not be my go-to spot for Guyanese food though....I'll stick to Sybil's in Queens or beg my mom to make my favorite guyanese dishes.
