"We’d gladly move into any of the three rooms at this all-day Kala Ghoda cafe that almost feels like you’re in Europe. The high-ceilinged main room, inspired by the OG Parsi and Irani cafes in the city, is where to meet with a friend or co-work over coffee, tea, and the best chef's salad in town. And the back wine bar feels built for big conversations thanks to heavy curtains, moody lighting, and plush armchairs. Much like at the Irani cafes of yore, there’s something here for every time of day and every dietary persuasion. We love the rasta sandwich with omelet and chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chillies, which goes well with the Rojo, a tomato, watermelon, celery, red pepper, sundried tomato, and basil juice spiced up with Tabasco. The chocolate almond flour cake with so-thick-it’s-barely-pourable milk cream is non-negotiable. " - roshni bajaj sanghvi

"Despite other instagram-friendly cafes like The Pantry and The Nutcracker popping up in the neighbourhood, Kala Ghoda Cafe remains a fixed favourite. They bake their own bread and the gluten-free waffles and chocolate, ginger and carrot cakes are excellent. The walls are often host to interesting art exhibitions. A larger second space can accommodate their overspill but we’re still always trying to bag their pintsized mezzanine." - Lover

Kala Ghoda Cafe - Great Food, Great Ambiance! Just as the name suggests, this cafe is located in Kala Ghoda (Fort). Although you’ll really have to follow Google Maps to find this place, as the entrance could be ‘Blink-and-you-miss’! Once you enter the cafe, you are ushered into an old-world charm! The cafe is not quite large area-wise, but somehow they are able to pack in tons of people without making it feel over-crowded! Coming to the food - I ordered the Chicken and Cheese Grilled Sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches that I ever had! Ordered Cold Coffee, which I thought was passable (Should have ordered the normal cappuccino!) The central area, has a chef preparing salads in front of you, which was a bit of a highlight for me! Service was quick and the servers polite! Will definitely come back again!

After the high reviews, the experience was a little underwhelming. It is upscale and draws a very rich crowd. The ambience is cosy and service is decent. You might need to wait a while to get a table. The BLT lacked any real flavour at all and was extremely disappointing. Didn't feel the tiramisu was great as well. At least for the price paid. I did enjoy the cold coffee. I found the plates weren't entirely clean either.

Had amazing food here. Quality is very good. Good tea and tasty food. Their carrot cake and other cakes as well are must haves. Had french onion chicken, which was delicious. Will be here again whenever in the vicinity. Beautiful Cafe with good service, good food and beautiful people.

Kala Goda Cafe – A Hidden Gem in Colaba Tucked away behind a small, dainty entrance, Kala Goda Cafe is one of my absolute favorites in Colaba. Once inside, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the ample seating space, making it a cozy yet comfortable spot to unwind. The decor is a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern artistry, which enhances the overall dining experience. The cafe offers a wonderful selection of coffee, baked goods, wines, and light bites, but it’s the food that truly stands out. My personal favorites are the Pesto Cheddar Melt Sandwich and the Cottage Cheese Schnitzel, paired beautifully with fresh pesto sauce and veggies. The almond cake is absolutely to die for—rich, moist, and perfectly balanced. It’s warm and inviting, with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it ideal for a peaceful meal or an afternoon coffee break. If you're in Colaba, this is one place you don’t want to miss!

Mediocrity Served with a Veil of Flair When it comes to the Bombay dining scene, I’m always on the lookout for spots that truly stand out, especially after exploring the city’s most chaotic and vibrant establishments. But, I have to admit, my recent visit to Kala Ghoda Cafe didn’t quite live up to the hype. Before heading to the 25th Kala Ghoda Art Festival, my partner and I followed the well-trodden path to this iconic spot, hoping for an experience that would do justice to the area’s cultural buzz. As we walked in, we couldn’t help but notice the crowd – a sea of expats clearly enjoying what the place had to offer. It felt like we’d arrived at the “it” spot, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were in the wrong movie. The energy was there, but unfortunately, the food? Not so much. It was a dry day in Bombay thanks to Republic Day festivities, so we dived straight into the menu. Naturally, we went with the much-talked-about KGC Special Salad first, which came highly recommended. We had specifically asked for chicken to be added, but it was served on the side, which just felt off. Picture this: an artist given all the colors in the world but lacking any real direction. That’s how the salad felt. Fresh ingredients, yes, but the whole dish lacked definition and depth. Then came the Margarita Pepperoni Pizza, which I was genuinely excited about. Unfortunately, what I thought would be a no-brainer was a complete letdown. The pizza base was thin but lacked any satisfying crunch, and the tomato sauce had an odd sweet taste that made me question if we’d been served dessert instead of pizza. Finally, we decided to go for the Espresso Caramel Custard to wrap things up. It was decent but left a lot to be desired. A little less sugar and a stronger coffee kick would’ve turned this dessert into something to remember. So, to shatter the myth — this wasn’t the dining experience I had imagined. Honestly, I’d sum it up as one that’s more about the aesthetic than the food itself. Not one for the foodies, but if you’re looking for a place to snap a shot for the Gram, maybe this one’s for you. #KalaGhodaCafe #BombayEats #FoodieAdventures #MediocreDining #NotTheOne #FoodieDisappointment

We traveled 90 min one way only to have coffee and mutton sandwiches at this Cafe. The quality is great and we had to wait for a table on a weekend evening so plan accordingly. Highly recommended. It's worth the hype.

One of its kind Cafe with such vintage interiors and vibe of 80's. Loved that crowd as well. We ordered Double expresso, cold coffee and tiramisu. All of them were simply awesome. Cold coffee was strong and loved the bitterness. Will definately come again n again. Thanks team.
