On the Grid : Kala Ghoda Cafe

"Despite other instagram-friendly cafes like The Pantry and The Nutcracker popping up in the neighbourhood, Kala Ghoda Cafe remains a fixed favourite. They bake their own bread and the gluten-free waffles and chocolate, ginger and carrot cakes are excellent. The walls are often host to interesting art exhibitions. A larger second space can accommodate their overspill but we’re still always trying to bag their pintsized mezzanine." - Lover

The 26 Best Restaurants In Mumbai - Mumbai - The Infatuation

"We’d gladly move into any of the three rooms at this all-day Kala Ghoda cafe that almost feels like you’re in Europe. The high-ceilinged main room, inspired by the OG Parsi and Irani cafes in the city, is where to meet with a friend or co-work over coffee, tea, and the best chef's salad in town. And the back wine bar feels built for big conversations thanks to heavy curtains, moody lighting, and plush armchairs. Much like at the Irani cafes of yore, there’s something here for every time of day and every dietary persuasion. We love the rasta sandwich with omelet and chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chillies, which goes well with the Rojo, a tomato, watermelon, celery, red pepper, sundried tomato, and basil juice spiced up with Tabasco. The chocolate almond flour cake with so-thick-it’s-barely-pourable milk cream is non-negotiable." - roshni bajaj sanghvi

Our Favorite Dishes From a Year of Travel - AFAR

"A hip, window-lined neighborhood café ideal for a relaxed breakfast—order chai, fresh-pressed juices, a loaded cabbage-carrot-sesame salad and the standout gluten-free waffle made with amaranth and millet flour; the peaceful vibe and reliably delicious waffle made this a repeatable, jet-lag-busting meal popular with vegans and gluten-free diners." - AFAR Editors

Charming spot in the heart of Mumbai! Kala Ghoda Café has a vibe that’s hard to match—artsy, peaceful, and full of character. It’s the kind of place where you can sip your coffee slowly, soak in the creative energy, and enjoy thoughtful conversations. The coffee here is genuinely top-notch—rich, aromatic, and brewed to perfection. I tried the roasted chicken with Thai rice and coffee cappuccino and both were amazing. Their food menu is just as impressive—fresh ingredients, clean flavors, and beautifully plated. Loved the cozy seating and the touch of old-world charm with modern simplicity. The staff is polite and attentive without being overbearing. What really stands out is the ambience—it’s peaceful, almost meditative. You’ll find writers, creatives, and travelers all soaking in the same magic. Whether you’re coming in for a quiet breakfast, brunch with friends, or even to work on your laptop for a while, the space is incredibly inviting. If you’re in South Mumbai, Kala Ghoda Café is a must-visit—whether you’re a local or just exploring the city. Perfect for brunch, solo work sessions, or catching up with friends. Will definitely be returning!

Well the fact that I keep coming back here despite my sense of adventure and exploration is testament enough to the quality. They make these banana flour waffles that’s so delish with their chocolate sauce and side of fruits . You won’t go wrong with any orders here . Do try their pastas and other main courses , salads, ragi chips. As for atmosphere, there are three different ambiences to choose from . We have our spot by the bar in the library.

Came here for the gluten free food. Amazing. Didn't disappoint. We had four items : 1. Margherita pizza 2. Almond cake 3. Burglets 4. Waffles Everything was very interesting because it was made in a manner we haven't tried before (idli as a bun for burger, banana flour waffles, etc.)

Kala Ghoda Café in Colaba offers a cozy, rustic ‘90s vibe with warm brick walls and vintage charm. The ambiance is inviting, and the food—especially the all-day breakfast—is consistently delicious. Though the entrance is a bit hidden and it’s usually packed, the experience, coffee, and comfort make it a must-visit spot in Mumbai.

It’s a nice and quite popular cafe of South Bombay. The coffee was good. They have lots of healthy options in snacks. Would recommend.

This cafe is just an overhyped cafe by the influencers. The prices are exorbitant and the quantity is low , quality is also average. We ridiculously spent 1k per head for a small quantity. The cafe is also quite near to the Kala ghoda statue. Since we were famished we chose to go here. The cafe could only accommodate very few people. Although the hospitality provided by the cafe manager was nice. I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use but can be visited only once. Since we visited at the peak hours we had little waiting which was ok.

The Kala Ghoda cafe is quite a popular restaurant in Colaba. We had to wait nearly 15 mins to get a table so I assumed the food was clearly very good. The staff did not seem very polite. It took they a long time to come take our order. Also some of the staff kept pushing my chair whilst walking past our table which got very annoying. In terms of food, we got the chicken cheddar burger and the penne pesto. The burger was a tad bit dry and pasta was average. Overall I did not enjoy my experience here and it was not worth the wait for it.
