Kalaveras in Redondo Beach: A Fun Spot with Room for Improvement Kalaveras in Redondo Beach is a lively, fun spot perfect for a casual hangout. The vibrant atmosphere really stands out and makes it an enjoyable place to visit with friends. The food and drinks are decent, though there is definitely room for improvement in terms of flavor and execution. However, the presentation of the dishes is on point, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into how everything looks. While the menu might not blow you away, it's still worth a try if you're in the area. Overall, Kalaveras is a must-visit for its ambiance and energy, especially if you’re in the mood for a relaxed, festive experience.

We went late in the morning, and happened to be the time when there was a rowdy crowd. It was very loud due to the brunch menu and everyone enjoying the margarita flights. The servers, however, were so very nice. They sat us outside under a heat lamp where the sound was muted. I have food allergies and always have to ask a million questions to ensure a safe meal for myself. The servers were very patient and went to the kitchen several times to check the ingredients for me. The chips were fried with other gluten containing foods, so the chips were a no-go for me, but the hubs raved over the salsa, and I was brought a fresh bowl to go with my carnitas tacos, rice and beans. It was really good! Hubs had a burrito, and he liked it, too. The flan was pretty good, but not worth the $8 they charge. I saw they have special days where the tacos are cheaper, and I will return then. To go at a regular time, it would not be worth it to me since most of the items contain gluten or other foods I am allergic to.

I went there for dinner for my friend’s birthday. I liked the decor and the atmosphere. The food was good, and the staff were nice too. But the music was very loud, so we couldn’t hear each other. I want to try their brunch next time.

Saturday afternoon, no wait time. Sat down and server checked on us immediately. We started with a some margarita’s MI NOVIA FRESA and the KALAVERA, really good drinks. We ordered the Chicken taquitos appetizer, tasty but a little soggy, carne asada tacos and a chicken taco, we both agreed the carne asada taco had a better flavor and texture. I gave the an atmosphere a slightly lower rating based on the volume of the music, it was a little loud inside. Over all a very pleasant experience, I’m stuffed!

My husband and I came to happy hour prices were surprisingly reasonable....food and drinks were great! We sat at the bar after we were done and ordered another drink.... Bartender was a pleasant young man talking about all the different alcohols with my husband. I feel bad that I don't recall his name I want to say Jonathan perhaps but I could be wrong.

Stopped in here for drinks on a Sunday afternoon since we were closeby the Redondo beach area. Was seated right away, looked like they just finished the brunch buffet so crowds were thinning out. First waiter was friendly and good, drinks brought out fast but later on during the shift change and cashing him out it was hard to flag down a new server. However, it was a good place to chill and have some drinks and appetizers. Guacamole dip was awesome🤙 Atmosphere was a bit on the noisier side but was expected. The quirky floral and colorful motif added to the character of this place. If it wasnt for the spotty service, it rate this place higher🤙Would visit this place again👍

Super nice place. We went taco Tuesday and they were $1 each. Margeritas and beer were really good and the staff were super friendly and efficient. Go there!! :-)

Google
Great place for a great time. The food is a bit pricey but if you're looking for party vibes and good food this won't disappoint. The drinks are delicious and during happy hour they are cheap.

Yelp
It was my first time at this location and I loved it. The place is small but warming, our waiter was Carlos and he attended us well for my mom's birthday. Carlos was fun & checked in on us regularly Thank you Carlos!!!

Yelp
Kalaveras is a cantina sports bar that serves Mexican food, but unfortunately not quality Mexican food. On my visit my meal resembled the bland taste similar to food served at an American sports bar, such as hamburgers, wings, etc. Everything about my meal lacked flavor and the color of the food was pale also. The guacamole was even a light green. The refried beans were a light brown, the Mezcal Margarita was also light on the Mezcal. If it weren't for the prime location of Kalaveras being just a short walk to the beach, I don't think place could survive.

Yelp
Went here for brunch on Saturday with wife and Aunt. They have nice patio with high top tables and the weather was lovely so we sat outside. We picked the place based on their advertisement of a mimosa brunch. Warning, they only have bottomless mimosas on Sunday. We did try the mimosa flight which was $25 for 4 large tasters. Unfortunately, one of the flavors was very sweet and the others were only average. So wife and aunt ended up ordering margaritas. Overall the drinks were only okay and cost the review a star. The food... the food was great. Guacamole was huge and delicious. It was served with a pico de gallo on the side but we all agreed it tasted best with the guac. I got the barbacoa omelette it was Outstanding. Wife got birria tacos and said they were great. The service was slow but more unrushed than a problem. Maybe I would have ordered a beer had I been asked. But overall, we liked this place and would recommend.

Yelp
Came in for a girl's dinner on Friday. Location is beautiful and parking was not that difficult that night. Now I am preggies and I did not get indulge in the cocktails but the virgin micheladas were really good. My friends enjoyed their drinks . The guacamole was good and so was the mild salsa. The tacos govenador are delicious as well. Our waitress Lucero was on top of it, she was attentive, friendly and took care of us the whole evening. We look forward to having brunch here as the location is perfect for a walk along the beach on a beautiful Sunday morning! Next time I will make sure to take pictures!

Yelp
Always the place to go for margaritas. Love coming here when you just need a good margarita and since it's close to my place, i can get a nice little buzz and then make my way downtown (down the street) lol It's nice having a place by the beach where you can listen to selena or mana or other spanish music and vibe to your chips and guac. I do have slow service usually even when it's not too busy but it makes up with the drinks and the experience.

Jay S.

Yelp
The food was just okay, the ambiance was actually pretty nice and the drinks weren't bad. The service was solid, but it's not a place I would go back to unless I had no other options. Luckily it is open later than most spots and they do have several daily specials on the weekdays. Here's a breakdown of everything I tried: 3.5/5 - Nachos: not bad, pretty good and filling. You can't really go wrong with nachos as an app. 3.5/5 - Carne Asada: a little on the spicy side for some, but nothing too hot. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either. 2/5 - Veggie Bowl: It just completely lacked any real flavor, we had to ask for some hot sauce just to mix it up a bit, it was just very bland and not worth it. 3/5 - Various Drinks: none of them really stood out too much, I would just stick with one of the margaritas or if they have one of the specials going on. Food: 3/5 Drinks: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Value: 2/5 Overall: 3/5

Yelp
Moraima was great. Super friendly and quick service. I got the carne asada and pescado tacos, while my wife got the breakfast tacos off the brunch menu. Everything was really tasty, including the complimentary warm chips and salsa they provide. My wife also made a good point how the food didn't feel as greasy as some other Mexican restaurants which is obviously a plus. Definitely a cool spot and recommend checking it out if you're looking for some good Mexican food with a fun ambiance.

Richard B.

Yelp
Food here is always solid and really enjoy their drinks. But lately the service with the waiting staff has been terrible. My friends and I had a waiter recently who ended up double charging on rice and beans, and on top of this; input incorrect orders on two of our meals then proceeded to blame us for not speaking up about it when he read it back mumbled and unintelligible under a mask. They also charged us for the meal they got wrong and sent back to the kitchen so we paid and ended up noticing and having to correct his error. A few months back before this time, we had another older waiter try to sell us like a car salesmen on more drinks and more food and not taking no for an answer like he's on commission and rude when answered with a no. It's a shame since I love the ambiance of this place and its food but until they fix the attitudes of some staff, I won't be returning.

Rick S.

Yelp
The service was very friendly. The food on Taco Tuesday was good. The average person could eat 5-6 of the $1.49 Taco Tuesday Tacos and get filled. The barbacoa and beef were the best tacos. Parking in the free lot can be tough and the alternatives are to use the street meters or walk 3 blocks to Catalina around downtown Avenue G and park for Free

Yelp
Love this place ! Taco Tuesday is the best ! The food is amazing ! Great ambiance ! Will continue to go . I highly recommend !

Yelp
I am late to the trend! but the other day was my second time here and both visits were a 10/10. I went on my 21st during happy hour the first time!! let me tell you, the drinks are so good! the service was great both times. the inside of the restaurant is very pretty and the vibes are so fun! My favorite drink has to be "La Guera"! I loved the molcajete and the pasta a la diabla was SOO good! the perfect amount of spice and so flavorful! their happy hour plates are also good! we had the wings, the birria tacos, and the ceviche! Def recommend!

Yelp
This place is dope! The best part about it is the ambience that's created we had the best time with our server Carlos! I recommend you request him 12/10! Dude is very charismatic, funny && down to earth! He made my whole group vibe the ENTIRE time! I'm late to the review but I had to give it up for our boy Carlos man I'm telling you he lives up to the standard of service, outgoing and very communicative all in one! The drinks are bomb they have a variety of them! All kinds of flavors and different liquor! I will be returning just for him, we got birthdays planned out hope to see him there!

Yelp
Being a long time local to Redondo Beach with some really great places to eat at I have to say KALAVERAS is a true stand out!!!! They have Amazing Mexican food with outstanding margaritas absolutely delicious and the service was truly outstanding and a special, thanks to Antonio he made us feel at home and had us laughing while he attempted to teach me Spanish :) Thanks again Antonio

Eco R.

Yelp
Asked for extra cilantro with order. Was not included!! Which is unfortunately regrettable to the experience

Josh T.

Yelp
Came down for a work trip. Capped off the trip with an outing to this place. Ambiance is legit, music is on point, staff are friendly and accommodating. Food is top notch! Had the carne asada plate. Can't say enough good about it. Chimichuri sauce was amazing, rice and beans and tortillas were out of this world. Pitchers of margaritas were awesome. All in all I highly recommend that you go here to eat and drink, you won't regret it.

Tom H.

Yelp
After seeing these places pop-up all over the place, we decided to give lunch a try here. The place is decorated beautifully and it's really something to look at. We tried their tacos and their were fairly delicious for what I would call premium tacos. The margaritas were decent but nothing that stood out for $12 bucks each. Although we didn't come during Happy Hour, we did notice they have a very small bar so they're going with more of a cantina vibe then a bar vibe in case you're wondering.

Yvonne S.

Yelp
Honor a reservation that was placed on your site and then confirmed via text message. Rather than the hostess telling me no it's not here and after showing her the confirmation saying we don't use that. You don't have a reservation and the wait will be over an hour. After telling her where and how I made she still was rude, not helpful and showed no compassion at all. It was the most unacceptable response. She made me seem like the problem and had no care that I had others with me and it was 730 pm. Horrible customer service. I've eat at your place several times and this was a rude awakening to how some of your staff is. Also note, if you don't use the yelp reservation feature, remove it. It sends confirmations and people make plans around the reservation. This is a management issue and should be fixed immediately

Paul C.

Yelp
I do like this place. Cool vibe, good location , good lunch value Went on a Thursday and lunch is definitely NOT crowded Food is really good and a good lunch value. Service was great since we were the first ones there (1130)

Lew W.

Yelp
Super staff. We had the chicken mole and burrito. Both were delicious and huge portions. Happy Hour prices are nice. Even though it was busy, we could still chat without shouting. Just a fun vibe. Cheers!

Mikala M.

Yelp
There was mold on my strawberry that came with my margarita rice & beans tasted like cardboard idk if my tastebuds were off that day but I'll pass on this location from now on. The meat in my tacos were a lil dry.

Chloe K.

Yelp
Great cocktails and tacos. Highly recommend the guava margarita and nachos! Super cute inside and great lively vibe.

Shamika M.

Yelp
We came here for my mother's birthday mid week and had reservations and it just so happened to be Taco Tuesday. The place was very popular and busy so make reservations anytime you can. To be honest, the service was not the best. We were a party of 7 and were seated and we probably didn't get anyone coming to offer drinks or take our order for probably 15 min or so. Meanwhile a group of 4 was seated AFTER us and ordered and got food before us. Anything we needed just took too long. My daughter ordered tacos and asked for grilled onions because there was only raw onions with cilantro out at the self serve table. They told her they don't have grilled and we said, well you have raw onions and we can't get them grilled? Didn't think that was an unreasonable request. Her tacos were plain and wanted those to eat with her meal and needless to say they never came out while the rest of us ate our food and finished. We told the waiter to remove the order since she literally waited forever and he said I'm so sorry I'll pay for it (he basically forgot to place the order in the kitchen). Shortly after, what do ya know, they miraculously showed up because we complained about it AND he charged me. Smdh Food was pretty good but I think I'd like to try a different location next time. Maybe we just were unlucky that day but service plays a HUGE role in a customers experience, almost as much as the food itself sometimes. I'd still give it another try.

Vane G.

Yelp
I want to give a shout out to the manager Javier, bartender Ivan, and waitress Maritza. It was my first time coming to this location for a retirement party. This team was extremely accommodating and inviting!! Javier was able to have our table ready and had us dancing with the great music selection. Ivan, made some great margaritas, (the guevarita) is my fave. Lastly, Maritza was efficient in taking all our orders and providing a speedy service. She made me feel like I was at home chilling with my tias Thank you for making this meaningful event smooth and memorable! The music, drinks, and vegan food specifically out of this world! I STRONGLY recommend this place for hosting big parties and/or happy hour. Additionally, can't beat the option of walking down to the beach after a nice meal. I can't wait to come back again

Kim G.

Yelp
Food was good, service mediocre. Never got my water. Had to ask for a go box 3 times.

Eddie D.

Yelp
Charming, laid-back Mexican restaurant just a couple of blocks from the beach at the Riviera, Redondo Beach. Not only are tacos just $0.99 on Tuesdays, but they're delicious too! Though the tacos are on the smaller side, there's a condiment bar where you can customize with a variety of toppings. Personal favorites include chicharron (tender pork belly), al pastor (marinated pork), barbacoa (braised beef), and hongos (mushrooms). Special kudos goes to our server, Antonio, whose attentive and outstanding service elevated our dining experience. The only downside is they charge $2.50 for chips and salsa.

Cindy D.

Yelp
This is cozy little Mexican restaurant located a couple of blocks from the beach. They offer different daily specials including Taco Tuesdays during which non-seafood tacos are $1.49 each. The tacos are small but tasty. There is also a salsa/condiment bar available so you customize your selection. I highly asking for a table in Antonio's section as he is welcoming, friendly, attentive, fast and efficient.

Jasmine L.

Yelp
Came to Kalaveras on a limb since my cousin said all of them are different and you can't judge one vs all.... So I came with the expectation that not only was the experience going to be mediocre but the service was as well... well Carlos took those expectations and squished them! He was not only knowledgeable about the menu but very helpful with perfect recommendations that left me satisfied! The pasta he suggested with the added salmon was top tier!! There was also a lovely lady name Hayley who was sweet and delivered our drinks with class & even chatted with us for a second making the ambiance a chill inviting environment! I love when someone can make something as simple as a drink exciting lol such an experience, needless to say I'll be back , specifically to this Redondo beach location ! Thank you for a great time !!!!

Terrence C.

Yelp
First time here and I will definitely coming back. The drinks were great, the food was great, and our server was very nice. It was pretty loud due to multiple birthday celebrations going on but it wasn't a problem. Our server Hosanna was very kind to my party and appreciate all of her recommendations for food and drinks!

Gil J.

Yelp
The best Dia De Los Muertos ever at Kalaveras with complimentary face painting and excellent service courtesy of Jordan and the crew! What an epic night. We love this place. Best shrimp tacos in the South Bay as well.

Lucero A.

Yelp
I love this place so much I usually go with my friends The food and drinks are fire

Sam N.

Yelp
$1 tacos on taco Tuesdays! All tacos qualify except the seafood ones. These tacos are very small(2 bites) but well worth the cost The tacos I got were: asada (steak) barbacoa (braised beef) pollo (chicken) hongos (mushrooms) They were all good but nothing spectacular The chicken and the steak were my favorites The thing that made these tacos great, other than the price, is the toppings bar they have to fill up the taco with as you can see in my pictures. Also, I have to give them points for the complimentary chips and salsa that were great and warm, in a world where everything has a fee now, but chips and salsa at a mexican restaurant should always be complimentary. I will be back as long as these prices and chips n salsa remain the same. Staff was great, and manager came around to the tables to ask how everything is, which I haven't seen in some of the most expensive restaurants, so wonderful! P.S: the ocean is viewable from their outside patio :)

Dallana H.

Yelp
Love it here every time , the serves are amazing & the vibe is always there . I come here almost every Monday for margarita money. The pasta a la Diabla is my favorites

Cynthia V.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by the Redondo location last night for a few drinks and appetizers. I got two tacos de asada, which were perfect for what I was looking for. Our server, Carlos was great!! He read my husband's mind and offered candy shots before we even asked for them. Since it was Margarita Monday, we shared a pitcher of the hibiscus margarita which was delicious!! The cups were rimmed beautifully with black salt. The ambiance was great, loved seeing how they celebrate birthdays! Thank you Carlos for your great energy on a Monday night!

Morgyn W.

Yelp
Kalaveras definitely lives up to the hype! It was my first time here and luckily it was Taco Tuesday. $1.49 tacos, don't mind if I do! Not to mention, they are big portion tacos! I was full off of two Barbacoa tacos and not too mention the salsa, ooweee was it sure good, but it hurt pretty bad next morning! Phew! I must say the service here was phenomenal, I wish I had got our waiters name, but constantly checking on us and making sure we were okay and enjoying our meal. The vibe here is so fun and very upbeat. Birthdays seem like they would be fun here as they come out with big signs like you're at a club with bottle service! Can't wait to start making this place a regular thing for me!

Kelly C.

Yelp
I have gotten the Quesa Birria Tacos from their Entrees menu every time when I come here!! I just can't order anything else yet because I love them so much. I've been to this location once & their Huntington Beach location a few times. Both locations had great service & food!! I also like their specials!! I believe I like to go Monday or Tuesday for their great drink specials. The ambiance & vibe inside is great too. Always seems lively & fun. When there is a birthday, their whistles or whatever they are can get a bit loud, but no worries.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Kalaveras is definitely a place I will go back to. It is a great place to hang out with friends. The drinks were good and I enjoyed my carnitas and plantains. The white refried beans reminded me of the beans I had in Puerto Vallarta. They were so good I bought extra to take home. I had the best server. Her name was Marissa and she was attentive, she answered questions I had about the menu and drinks, and she checked on us regularly. She even helped us move our food and drinks to another table we wanted to sit at. I really enjoyed myself immensely while there and I'm definitely going to bring some friends back.

Noemi C.

Yelp
Celebrated my brother's birthday here for the first time. I've visited the Bellflower location before but it was a first time here. Now that I've visited this location, I can say that I prefer it here. We were a group of eight and made a reservation ahead of time. We were seated immediately and on time. From the beginning to end, our server was wonderful, he took really great care of each and every single one of us and really made us feel welcomed. He was really great at pointing out my brother's birthday and checked in on us frequently. Unfortunately I don't remember our server's name, but he left a lasting impression. I don't drink alcohol but he made sure that I had nonalcoholic options. Our table sampled a variety of dishes and everything was flavorful and at the right temperature. All appetizers and entrees were delicious. This place was a vibe and we hope to return to experience a great time again.

Natasha R.

Yelp
carlos was our server and he was so attentive!! my original order was missing one component and he noticed and compensated for it. He was so lively and made our party feel at home. It was our first time at this location and we plan to come back & hopefully he's our server! lol

Xavier H.

Yelp
This place has really great customer service, great tasting food , love taco Tuesday here and margaritas Monday. Definitely recommend

Lesley M. C.

Yelp
Be aware Taco Tuesday tends to be over by 8 or 9pm even though they tell you it goes on to 11 pm . Seems they run out but it gave us the opportunity to try the enchiladas de camarón which were delicious and very savory. From the margarita flight , I learned the chamoyada is the best and Guavarita comes in a close second.

Alexis A.

Yelp
Love coming here for Taco Tuesday with mis amigas always a blast too when we have Carlos as our server! Looking forward to a great night with drinks, tacos and friends? This is the place!

Sia K.

Yelp
Came here for their $1 tacos Tuesday and definitely a great place to go when your craving tacos on a Tuesday. They have an amazing drink menu and their margaritas are fire! The service is always good and the vibes is definitely always pop in. They do play music loud so maybe sit outside on their patio area if you don't want loud music.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Thank you Carlos for making our day. We came in for happy hour and everything was so amazing. The soft tacos were a steal and the drinks were amazing and only 5$. Our waiter was incredible and was the service was so fast. 10/10 would recommend! Also Mexican candy shots were the best.

Jasmine S.

Yelp
This place is always popping at night in the quiet Riviera Village. People come here for drinks and good music for sure. But when it comes down to food, I gotta say it is ... just.. okay. We came here for a Sunday late brunch. Everyone got different dishes and they are all HUGE PORTION. I got Huevos rancheros with eggs sunny side up. It was so much food but the quality is just not there. My partner wanted to try something new on the menu and ended up getting cheese queso. Oh speaking of oil dripping out of your food and fingers... I was shocked at how oily it was even though it was super flavorful. We are huge foodies but not sure we appreciate the low quality ingredients. Almost seem to be that they compensated it by giving a huge amount. Overall, this is a good place to hangout for bar food with pretty drinks, other than that, I wouldn't come here just for the food, especially brunch.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here. Good place To unwind after work or to celebrate an event Always a good time sitting at the bar with the bar manager Jonathan & being served by Randy. The handsome manager Javier is so nice and friendly, Would definitely recommend coming here For any occasion.

Irene K.

Yelp
Birra queso tacos are freaking amazing and good size. Love the hot chili oil sauce that comes with it. Definitely unique to this establishment. First round of chips are free sequence refills are extra (lame). But not enough to not give 5-star review LoL Dog friendly (woot woot) with outdoor seating. Happy to finally try this restaurant out after walking and driving past so many years.

Gavin B.

Yelp
Food was bomb the service was great sauna was the best server ever definitely ask for her if you go in!! Get the mocajete For sure!!!

Brenda L.

Yelp
Call 2 hours before closing to place an order and the associate told me the kitchen was closed. The posted business hours say the restaurant is open until 1 am on Saturdays. No other location closes the kitchen that soon, I end up going to the San Pedro location even though this one was right down the street from my home.

Icky V.

Yelp
Love it here. Always a great time! Always bring my out of town friends here and it's near the beach
