Had the ankimo appetizer and deluxe chirashi bowl. Service was great and the fish was melt in your mouth. Would highly recommend this place

Matt Kang

Google
Great sushi. Very polite and kind helpful service. Happy hour selection and portions are very reasonable (5-6:30pm). Spicy rolls are much better than I am accustomed to. Worth a shot if you're on the fence!

Google
The food was amazing, not as good as pf changs but close. I hope you enjoy

AK Krajewska

Google
Always tasty and filling and incredibly quick when you call ahead for pickup. Their rice is particularly good. I’ve been getting takeout here for a few years, and always notice that whatever I get the rice is always perfect. Today I got chirashi don and was very pleased with the chef’s selection and the generous helping. The rolls are very nice, and katsu don is a favorite in my house too. The only things I haven’t tried are the udon and ramen. Also, everyone is always very kind, so even when just picking up you feel welcome and homey.

Google
Had delivery twice, excellent both times. 49er roll is great, as are the chicken skewers. Tried the gyoza pot sticker first time, then the deep fried version second time and wow the crunch on the deep fried is delicious. Will be ordering again and seeing about eating in too

Wesley Yu

Google
Kama is an old standby for us. The food is good and consistently delicious. I gave it four stars because it's not that extreme end of deliciousness that you would get at an omakase restaurant. The warrior roll is quite good.

Google
Very friendly service, delicious sushi!

Google
Usually we never have a problem on to go orders but last night we ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner and the mix tempura dinner set. 45 min wait I sat in the restaurant 15 min because I was early, I live 4 blocks away and drove down. Got home both orders were way beyond cold. $55.00 down the drain, sorry Kama you dropped the ball bigtime. Cold Japenese food is terrible and cant be reheated unfortunately.

Yelp
The BEST sushi! So fresh. So delicious. Fantastic presentation and above all customer service. Cozy on the corner and very convenient to Muni over on the J. They always have a great variety of specials and Happy Hour to pair with. This is definitely my go-to spot for date night.

Yelp
Great happy hour food and drink options, extremely friendly service, quaint ambiance, and lots of food options overall. I got a spicy salmon maki and tempura udon which were both delicious! Can't wait to go back.

chris L.

Yelp
Hadn't been there in a while, but has been my go-to for many years. The quality of the sushi and all the food is much better than the last time I went. I'll be back again soon.

Yelp
Come here for happy hour rolls! I believe that serve until 6:30pm on week days. Discounted rolls are $7 and the menu isn't limited to rolls you can order tempura, hand rolls and tofu! Our table decided to order some rolls and a sashimi platter to share family style. The rolls have the golden ratio of filling to rice, the filling is packed and the rice isn't overwhelming. We found the sashimi to come in thick slices and enjoyed the chefs selection. We especially loved the tempura, it was light and crispy and came with a good selection of vegetables, eggplant, kabucha squash, and carrot to name a few. We would probably skip the agadashi tofu as it wasn't as crispy was we would have wanted but still a solid dish!

Yelp
The party tray is very good! It's a great deal for what you get and can feed 3 very hungry people. It is not super high quality, but overall I will be back to order the party tray when I'm craving local sushi!!

Yelp
This little gem in the heart of Noe Valley serves up solid sushi in an intimate, small dining room. Service is attentive, and menu is ample. I particularly recommend visiting during happy hour, when they have a good size menu of discounted selections. The quality of the fish is good, but perhaps can't compete with more expensive Sushi restaurants. Nonetheless, it's tasty and fresh. I definitely recommend Kama Sushi.

Yelp
service was good food was good kinda small but its fine lol .. zz zz z z z z z zoom

Yelp
Sushi that gets the job done. There was nothing bad about the food, but there was nothing particularly noteworthy either. A good option if you're in Noe Valley and want a quick bite.

Belle H.

Yelp
really really yummy and good prices. they make my pickup orders in less than 15 mins and are always solid. i think they definitely reserve better than 3.7 on yelp

Yelp
Was working in the area two blocks away and saw this place was open for my lunch time. Great costumer service. The waitress are very friendly and with a great smile. Recommend you tasty food. As soon you sit down they'll give you a small bowl of their soup (yum). Ordered basil chicken, best so far I had. End up fishing my rice and still have some left over basil chicken. I put it to go and she packed it for me with extra rice. She went above and beyond. Yum yum food.

Yelp
Kama sushi is a really great sushi place with a ton of good vegeta options for the people who don't eat seafood and the food is always fresh. ( you can see them making some of the food at the counter) the service is pretty good -average for sushi- and I highly recommend it. They have a great restaurant with really nice tables and kind waiters and waitresses.
google avatar

Yelp
While I have eaten in years, I was excited to try it again, although was let down by the service they provided. We got seated before a bunch of people came. We ordered 3 rolls and waited for a good 15-20 min, and still no rolls. Yet they have people coming in non stop to pick up their online orders/uber eats. They did give us complimentary edamame and did apologize which is nice. Food is delicious, just wished it came out sooner. Definitely looks like they prioritize online orders, while they should prioritize those who are eating at the restaurant.

Yelp
Haven't had Kama Sushi in so long and decided to order via Ubereats and wow was it delicious! Held up well through delivery. - C27 Roll (spicy scallop, crab meat, cucumber topped with hamachi, salmon, spicy mayo) - California roll - Shrimp tempura - Miso soup (not pictured) - always delicious - Beef skewer (not pictured) - so tender Everything was so good and tasted so fresh. Writing this review is making me want more!

Jorn S.

Yelp
Ordered through Uber Eats 2 sushi rolls and a udon soup. The quality was very mediocre (sushi was very mushy with some strange flavors) while the total bill was 100 usd... will not order here again

AK K.

Yelp
Kama Sushi is my go-to takeout place for sushi rolls and donburi. Kama Sushi's distinguishing strength is perfect rice. Perfect texture, shine, and flavor, every time. All the basic rolls (maki) are good every time. I've had fewer of the speciality rolls, but all the ones I tried have been good. Negi hama maki is my favorite roll in general and their rendition is spot on. Their versions of the California roll is also very nice. No matter if you want to go more traditional or choose the inventive/American rolls, they are tasty. For donburi, I particularly like their chicken teriyaki and chirashi don. Others in my household really like the curry. Their nigiri is solid. That perfect rice makes the difference here. I generally just get nigiri as part of a set so I can't speak about any special nigiri. I haven't liked the hand rolls as much. I think it might not be a good takeout food, losing some texture with packing. So it might be good if you dine in, but for takeout rolls I'd stick to maki. Finally, they are very quick when I order pickup. They are often ready by the time I walk over which takes less than 15 minutes. Even on a very busy night with a complicated order, they had my food ready under half an hour. One time I ordered just rice from them because I was too lazy/hungry to cook rice at home and they didn't act like I was weird for that.

Yelp
If there was a swimming pool full of their Udon Curry, I would drown with a very happy, stupid grin on my face! I miss the Kama sushi before at 9th & Folsom but I still drove out church street to get me some Curry Udon! For pickup they are usually less time than they say Deffor fast & great food!!

Connie M.

Yelp
Great Sushi! Efficient service and delicious food. I frequently call and place a Will Call order but I also go in and eat in-house. Both methods work well.
google avatar

Yelp
Mushy rotten fish. Avoid unless your craving rapid weight loss from vomiting and diarrhea.

Kendall Raymond ..

Yelp
Incredible food and great service! A hidden neighborhood gem. The ambiance was wonderful and there were a ton of delicious vegetarian options which you don't often see at sushi places.
google avatar

Amarita S.

Yelp
This restaurant had great dishes and reasonable prices pre-COVID. Now their fire cracker balls taste soapy or like bad fish & the veggie dragon roll is an overpriced vegetarian roll with slightly dry rice that separated from it. I'm sad they've gone down in quality.
google avatar

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot for dinner, but food is hit or miss depending on what you order. We came here on a Sunday night and it wasn't very packed. The place is small so if you're a large party, it might be hard to get a table. We ordered a miso soup and gyoza as starters. It was okay. Nothing to write home about. The gyoza did come with 6 pieces instead of 5, but the pieces were smaller. It had a nice crisp to the bottom and the top was soft. As soon as you bit into it, it fell apart. The filling didn't have much flavor. For mains we ordered an assorted 7 piece sashimi, the August 4th roll, and the Red Dragon Roll. The assorted sashimi was good. The cuts were well prepared. I'm a little surprised that there was no salmon among the sashimi, but since it was chef's choice, no complaints. It was also interesting to try the different kinds of fish, some were super fatty and melted in your mouth. The rolls were very unimpressive. The August 4th roll was lack of better words confused. The inside had unagi, avocado and tamago. It didn't pair very well with each other and the tamago didn't add much either. It was topped with "torched" salmon, but ours barely had any singe so it lacked the smokey burnt flavor. The Red Dragon Roll was forgettable. The spicy tuna was very spicy, but the texture of the whole roll was mushy. This roll was also supposed to be topped with "torced" tuna, but it was barely singed. I live very close to here so I will most likely be back. I'll skip the rolls for now and just stick to their sashimi. Maybe I'll try their hot food next time too.

Yelp
Fantastic quality for its value! I order from here whenever I'm craving sushi and I keep coming back here after trying a few different places around the area. Portions are generous, delivery items are packed with care and they have a varied menu.
google avatar

Lizette H.

Yelp
This is a review for take out Sake Oyako Don. The salmon sashimi was cut nicely so it displayed the stripes of fat and fanned out over a bed of rice, dressed up with some shredded diakon and a leaf, the standard wasabi and a generous pile of ginger. It was very delicious and tasted fresh. I liked the main dish very much. I took off a star because there was so little miso soup. For over 20$ the main was good but the amount of soup was small-about 4.5 sips of soup, and on a cold night it would be nice to have at least half a container of it! The miso was mild and had good quality silken tofu and wakame. I would go back for more.

Yelp
I think their food is just so so which isn't a good thing for one to say. I love sushi but their sushi didn't taste fresh and I felt kinda crammed at my table for how limited the seating is. I thought the inside was rather dark and you can spot the dirtiness within the restaurant. I wouldn't recommend coming here as it's not worth your dollar for the quality of food you get. There are better sushi places out there that will excite you than this mediocre sushi place. I wish they would put a new coffee shop here or a better sushi place where I would want to go back to.

Katherine S.

Yelp
i was excited to try this place but the fish wasn't very good :( kind of rubbery and the rice was chewy. Couldn't finish it

Yelp
Kama Sushi has been our go to Sushi place for many years. We like to sit at the bar having sake and sushi, enjoying a relaxing moment after a tough day at work. During the pandemic we started ordering take out. The quality and taste were not compromised at all. We support the business. Hope it keeps on doing well and lasts forever.

Steve P.

Yelp
This review bums me out. We've eaten here regularly for years and loved their sushi. Something has drastically changed in the last couple months, and we've gotten 2 really disappointing meals in a row. We hoped the first time was just an anomaly, but unfortunately it wasn't. Our red dragon roll was inedible - the tuna on top was just warmed to a gross mush instead of being seared, barely any toppings. This used to be a favorite, and this time it was seriously disgusting. The 49er roll that used to be bright, fresh, and delicious was falling apart, with uneven cut pieces of lemon and fish and a fishy taste. The garlic edamame was overcooked and mushy inside and barely seasoned compared to usual on the outside. Everything has just gotten noticeably worse. I hope you address the steep decline in quality, we'd love to become regulars again. But for now, there are better options.

Yelp
2.5 STARS When I need to be cheap...I can be c-h-e-a-p. Just over the weekend, I got into it with a manager at an Asian market over $2. The staff mislabeled the price for coconut water. I told her it was the law and that they need to charge customers the posted price which was lower than scanned price. She refused, claiming that a kid switched the price tag. Mr. NSS: "Please don't make a scene, I'll pay for it." Me: "Ummm no, it's the phuckin' law!" Mr. NSS: "Calm down, you're getting your granny panties ALL up in a bunch over $2 BUT you spent $360 for one meal at Saison?!?" Me: "Hey, I love my granny panties dammit...have fun with PALMela tonight!" Choose your battles wisely, fellas. If you're girl wants to haggle over $2 so let it be. What drew me to Kama Sushi was their Happy Hour (HH) Specials available every day from 5 pm - 6:30 pm: http://bit.ly/10sysXZ. On the menu are $5 large hot sake, $4 large beers, $5 hot apps, $4 nigiri, and $5 maki rolls. I compared it the regular menu and you save about $1 for most items. Make sure to check in on Yelp for a free small hot sake! I had a not so great experience at Kama's SoMa location aka mad Hershey squirts afterwards, however, I heard that their Noe Valley location was better. LIES. If you're looking for solid and authentic sushi, you will not find it any of their Kama locations. As the infamous Nobu K. would say, it's 100% Chinese here (I'm 3/4ths Chinese and I heard the sushi chefs speaking in Canto) with a huge jive ass roll selection. Not to say, Chinese sushi is entirely bad because Hamano Sushi nearby does Chinese sushi right: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hamano-sushi-san-francisco. Sakesan Bistro in Inner Richmond is also great as is Kamu Sushi and Amami Sushi in the Peninsula. We came right when Kama opened and we were the only ones there until we left. OUR ORDER: *Soft Shell Crab (HH $5): http://bit.ly/1z2vFky *Shrimp Tempura (Reg $7.95): http://bit.ly/1tgXqR0 *Yakitori: Kurobuta: Sausage & Butabura: Pork Belly (HH $5 each): http://bit.ly/1x6Xbj4 *Albacore Tataki (HH $7): http://bit.ly/1s9Jmsl *HH CA Roll, Sake, Maguro, Saba ($5, $4, $4, $4) & Sake Toro & Hamachi Toro (Reg. $5.95, $7.95): http://bit.ly/1z2wj1E What Kama excels in is their fried items. Whoever their chef is, they have excellent frying technique. The soft shell crab was piping hot, uber crunchy, and not greasy. Equally delicious was their shrimp tempura which was light, airy, and deliciously crunchy. One of the best shrimp tempura I've ever had! You can skip their yakitori skewers. The kurobuta sausage was store bought and decent enough but their pork belly thinly dry, overcooked, and insanely salty. With Kama's sushi, expect mediocrity. Thank goodness most of the nigiri we ordered was off the HH menu because I would NOT pay full price for these items here. We also ordered two nigiri off the regular menu to gauge the sushi making skills. One of the fundamentals of solid sushi is the shari (sushi rice) and Kama's shari was terrible. The rice was grossly overcooked, mushy, and underseasoned. It reminded of the shari in Safeway sushi. The fish to shari ratio was also off (too much rice). Additionally, the quality of the fish was subpar and not fresh. Even with the Sake and Hamachi Toro Nigiri from the regular menu, the fish tasted dull and stale; no butteryness whatsoever. Avoid the Saba, it was fishier than p.....never mind. As a comparison, the sushi here is a baby step higher than sushi found at an Asian buffet. Wasn't fond of the service either. Our male server was curt. After we received our food, he left to use his phone and never came back. The female server seemed friendly and brought us our bill. Had she been our server, this would have been a solid 3 star place. Kama is small compared to their SoMa location with seating for about 25 people. We usually sit at the sushi bar but it was very dim so we opted for window seats for some natural light. Easy street parking. While this reads to be more of a 2 star review, I'm giving them 2.5 stars rounded up because of the HH specials and no mad Hershey squirts afterwards.

Yelp
Seems every time I dine here I am over charged. It is very annoying. I have learned that I have to look over my bill. They offer a happy hour menu but when the check arrives I don't seem to get happy hour prices. Am I the only one that checks my bill? I am not from the area but when I visit I take my Granddaughter here every time...and seriously...I am over charged every time.

Tea I.

Yelp
DON'T TRY TO GET IT DELIVERED. We've been here many times and sometimes call for delivery. The food is good albeit overpriced. Spend over a hundred bucks every time. Well, I ordered (and was billed for) $125 worth of food at 5pm and it's 6:30pm now with no food in sight (and a hungry family). I called at 6 and the woman who answered said, "yeah, so the food is ready but the driver isn't here." She then assured me it would arrive at 6:07pm. So.... my order is just sitting on the counter for over an hour? I've called back many times and no answer. Sorry, Kama. You lost my business for good. UPDATE: the food arrived cold at 6:50.
google avatar

Irene X.

Yelp
The fish here are not fresh, they smell fishy. The Butabara-Skewers (Pork Belly Skewers) is one of the worst item to choose from the menu. The temperature of the Pork Belly (Butabara) Skewers was not warm enough, the texture is dry and hard. This is by far the WORST Pork Belly Skewers I've ever eaten in my entire life. The space in this restaurant is small, all tables are close to the main door and it could feel cold when people open/close the door. Really not worth it to come and spend your money here.

Diego L.

Yelp
I like this place and don't know why they get so much hatred. My favorite rolls are the Boston roll and the 49er roll
google avatar

Evan M.

Yelp
I've ordered from Kama via GrubHub several times now. They're 1) always on time, if not early; and 2) reliably delicious. I've never been here in person, but from a delivery standpoint, they're excellent.
google avatar

Holly E.

Yelp
So happy to have such a great sushi spot nearby. The prior reviews were concerning, but I'm glad we went anyways. The service was great and the menu is big. We tried a few unique rolls and were happily surprised with all of them. The atmosphere is also just what we were looking for. Not too much of a hole in the wall but also not too fancy. You could dress up or down and feel very comfortable. Great prices too for the Bay Area. We will be back!
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
I've been here a few times, usually on weekday evenings. It's a very small, intimate restaurant that seats about 20 people maximum. The walls are berry colored with fake trees and branches suspended on the walls. They close at 9:30 but stop taking orders about 9:20, fyi. Of the rolls I've tried, I love the golden dragon, C27 and crunchy scallop roll. The tempura is always super hot, light and crispy. The miso soup can be a bit watery in miso flavor but is packed with seaweed, chives and tofu. The prices are moderate. We ordered 2 miso soups, mixed tempura, a rainbow roll, C27 and golden dragon rolls for about $57 before tip. Everyone is friendly and polite. I'd recommend this spot if you're nearby. Street parking is rough but manageable.

Yelp
Went here after seeing high reviews online, but was let down by the averageness. It was fairly pricey and the rolls tasted incredibly average. There were flies and gnats on the windows which ruined the experience. This place is not worth the price for the quality of the food.
google avatar

Ricardo R.

Yelp
Love this place. So close to home (5 minute walk). When we first entered this place, we were immediately seated by the very kind staff. The inside of this restaurant is very cozy and modern. The waitress was also very quick to take our order. I ordered the sashimi chef choice (7piece) and it was pretty fresh, but not the freshest I've ever had. Then we ordered the red dragon and rainbow roll. Both were delicious. To top off the meal, we ordered the hot sake to cleanse our palette. Overall, great experience and will come back since I am the DUKE of this place ;)
google avatar

Sandy M.

Yelp
Great happy hour! Yummy walu nigiri. Friendly staff. Fast service. Good prices. This updated review is long overdue. I eat at Kama like once a week. It's a local Noe Valley favorite restaurant for me. The review I left years ago was with former owner/management, I wish I could delete it.

Yelp
Kama is, in my opinion, some of the best sushi I have had in SF for the price. A and I have been meaning to try this place since we moved to the neighborhood and, after 6 months, finally did. We were pretty hungry so we ordered a whole mish mash of items. As other reviewers have mentioned, going during Happy Hour is the time to go from 5:00pm-6:30pm (maybe that timing is incorrect) which is every day. There are both drink and food specials. Since it was New Years Day and we had plenty of fun the night before, we just took advantage of the food deals. We were served complimentary Edamame when we sat down which was a nice touch. We also ordered tea which was delicious and nutty. It really hit the spot for our sore throats. We ordered: - Miso Soup ($1.95): I ordered one cup and A's meal came with it. This was good, standard Miso Soup. Don't expect anything mind blowing but its good. -Gyoza ($5 during HH): Delicious and a good portion for 2. Next time, I would get them steamed because they were a little oily for my taste but they were quite good. -Fujiyama Roll ($12.95)-Light and delicious. You could really taste the food and there wasn't any ingredients that were overpowering. Highly recommend. -Saba and Shrio Maguro Nigiri ($4 each for 2 pieces during HH): Fresh and quality fish for a good price. Usually, I am disappointed by the fish quality or portion at other sushi spots but this was the perfect portion and quality at a fair price. Is it the best you will ever have? Probably not, but at the price point, it can't be beat. -Beef Teriyaki Set Dinner ($13)-A ordered this and liked it. The Beef Teriyaki was good but a bit tough. Next time, A said he would probably stick with Sushi. A was still hungry after dinner and after seeing the Mochi that another table had ordered, he wanted to get it as well. He ate almost all of it since I'm not really into Mochi. It came with 3 kinds of Mochi (I believe green tea, peach and strawberry) and each was topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. He was really happy with it. For the two of us for all of this food, it was only $55 or so before tip which is definitely reasonable. The service was fast and the food was quality. If you're in the neighborhood, I would definitely recommend coming here for a light, possibly healthy dinner. Please note that they open at 5, unfortunately, so there is no lunch service.

Yelp
Kama's decent at lots of things but not great at anything. It has decent Katsu but it's very chewy for Katsu and not super crispy. The ramen and noodles are good but nothing to write home about. Solid place to eat in Noe Valley.

Neema R.

Yelp
Great local sushi spot at its price point. The salmon belly nigiri was solid. The spider hand roll is a great choice as well and I would recommend. The unacrab maki was the star of the meal for me and is a must order if you like eel. The miso nasu has a heavenly miso butter as well that compliments the eggplant nicely

Cindy H.

Yelp
We just had a delicious take out dinner from our neighborhood restaurant, Kama Sushi. Especially wonderful dishes were the nigiri salmon (best I've had), spicy tuna roll - spicy and a bit smoky- yum, and the chirashi had a great selection. Thank you Kama Sushi!

Yelp
Our neighborhood 'everyday' sushi spot. (The 'special' neighborhood one is Saru on 24th.) Super-convenient for us, & it's decently good for what we usually order for our 2-adult+1-kid family (hamachi Kama, salmon skin roll, rainbow or CA roll, hamachi, tuna, salmon, or tobiko nigiri, wakame salad or gomae). I'd say food's a 3.5, but I'm rounding up. It was a bit better & more consistent pre-COVID. Glad to still have them around & to support them a couple times a month. NOTE: Info here on Yelp is incorrect. Correct website is at: https://www.kamasushica.com, w/ online ordering currently thru BeyondMenu. They're also on GrubHub, but I'm posting all this b/c GrubHub showed them as closed today. Took me 10 minutes of sleuthing to confirm that that was wrong. We usu. order online, but I decided to call in my order this time & let them know. Gentleman who took my order was very friendly & said he'd tell his manager. We had dinner at home in 30 minutes. :-P

Yelp
I love Kama Sushi, nice size rolls. Their sake selections are great. The ambiance of the place is very romantic. They have 2 big flat screen TV. Real good place with tasty rolls! I don't mind coming here again!

Yelp
So so so so rude. Awful. Awful. Awful. Awful. Don't ever go here. Period. They are so rude. I came to noe for a salon. Wanted some sushi between treatments. Awful service. Awful food.
google avatar

Lydia K.

Yelp
FREE SAKE when you check in. Also complementary edamame and it's pretty good. Okay so my friends went ham and usually I do too but my stomach wasn't having any of it. I stuck with the Golden Dragon roll, which by the was was good but not the best roll I've had, and a spring mix salad. I actually really liked the salad.
google avatar

Alui L.

Yelp
Just don't bother coming here. The fish is pretty bad and so was the rice. I'm not sure why I ever bothered eating here in the first place? We ordered salmon, and hamachi to start. Then decided we would go home and grab a pizza.

Yelp
I'm rating this place by their happy hour. Finding a good sushi happy hour in San Francisco is not the easiest thing to do. Especially finding a place that has good service where the waiter will return to check and see if you need to place any more orders multiple times. They always ensure that you order your last dishes before happy hour ends; this always makes me happy. I definitely recommend the tatakis here. Good quality food for decent prices.
