The 26 Best Restaurants in Anchorage, Alaska - Eater

"Go at an off hour to find a seat at this Malaysian-influenced ramen spot that is five-fire-emoji hot with summer diners in Anchorage. Located in an old burger restaurant, Kami was started by three friends — Jiahui Sim, Chiiwen Choo, Leon Chew — who had operated a pop-up Malaysian bakery called Roti. The ramen menu centers on tonkotsu-style broth made with simmered pork bones, but there are also vegetarian and gluten-free options. There’s limited indoor seating and takeout is also available." - Julia O'Malley

Google
Really great ramen, the broth is rich and flavorful. The meat also had a great taste but could have been thicker slices w the edges crispy. The eggs were cooked almost perfect. I could have done with out the extremely large fish cake on top. Service was beautiful. It's a small place so there might be a wait. The parking is also limited. Great place highly recommend.

Google
This spot is amaze balls! My gf & I ordered the spicy tonkotsu & takoyaki as an appetizer. Both are very exquisite!🤌🏽🤌🏽 Also, their strawberry yogurt drink is pretty bomb & my gf ordered a passion fruit green tea drink w aloe vera, good as well! This was our first time having Kami Ramen & definitely will not be our last.

Google
Takuyaki!!!! Yall know how much i love a good takuyaki. This takuyaki is awesome and ill ve coming back to it. I tried the vegtable ramen, it was good with hand breaded tofu but the broth needs a lil deeper flavor. The mayo fries which seemed to have cheese and a form of maybe some homemmade thousand island, idk if it was mayo? But they were super well fried and the sauce made them slap. Um the downside is the door in the picturr REAKS of cigrette. Its definetly this ancient building though. I think they need to upgrade there spot already haha. Not really there fault, this builing is OlD like i remember when i was like 5 and it was luigis lmao

Google
Kami Ramen is a dining experience. From the minute you get there. Sign up, and be prepared to wait, elbow to elbow with others willing to wait! Usually 5-10 minutes will find you seated. Try the Pork Belly appetizer! I like the spicy noodles. My girlfriend likes the traditional. Make your meal an experience and enjoy!

Google
Best ramen spot in Anchorage - I am new in town and thought Whiskey & Ramen was good....... this place is better by far! Military folk all love coming here too, got told to come here by several people. The tonkatsu ramen is very flavorful, I got fried pork belly as an appetizer but put it in my ramen which was even better.. and the Lychee Calpico drink with Brown Sugar Boba was awesome. If my family visits me here in Alaska, I'll take them here to eat for sure.

As a person who has lived in Japan for over a year I can confidently say this food is really good. The service was good, the food came to us extremely hot and fresh. I would get here early to get a spot, the seating is limited. Would definitely visit again!

Google
It was only about a quarter full when I got there, so my food came out in about five minutes. I would have liked a few more pieces of meat in my ramen bowl, but overall it was so excellent. The pork belly (pictured) is a great appetizer and is a perfect blend of chewy and crispy. You can seat yourself at the bar, or there are tables if you’re coming in a group.

Delicious food, fast service. Loved it. Not much room in there but other than that, fantastic.

Yelp
Went Kami Ramen on a recommendation of a friend. Yelp reviews only solidified my reason for coming. Upon entering you enter a clean Japanese ramen shop with a friendly welcome by the Kami team. Your seating can range from high top table, counter or half booth. The menu has a good variety of appetizers, ramen bowls, and other Japanese entrees. We had great pleasure to meet the owner who also took our order. We ordered tonkotsu ramen, spicy & sweet edamame, and gyoza. Ramen was full of flavor that was only enhanced with the noodles. Broth is cloudy and thick with good texture. Chashu were thinly cut and well prepared. Toppings were perfect. We enjoyed the entire meal and service. I have book marked Kami Ramen and look forward to a return visit when in town. Thank you Kami Ramen.

Yelp
Like Bill L. said, the place was busy! Thankfully, I ordered online and was only picking up. However, even that took 15 minutes for me to be acknowledged and then handed my food that was already sitting on a pickup rack. The ramen was very good, but does not beat my number one ramen spot. I would have liked more broth. I am glad that I ordered the spicy sauce, because without it, I believe the broth would've been a little bland. Overall, I give the Veggie Ramen a B. I also purchased a red bean ice cream fish bar. It was tasty, I like red bean desserts and do not see them often. I give that treat a B+. I do highly recommend others give this place a try, if they are on the fence.
google avatar

Yelp
Always busy - if you get a seat w/o waiting you're lucky!!! Took my kido for the first time. As always the food and service are great

Yelp
Cute little place; sitting is limited if you have a large group. We came here for lunch. We got Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen and Pork Chashu Sandwich and kumquat lemon green tea. All delicious, fresh and tasty. Kids ate everything and they can get picky. Food was good and arrive very fast after we ordered. Would recommend and will come back.

Yelp
Trust me, I know ramen. This is Anchorage, and this is the best ramen you'll find here for the right price.
google avatar

Bianca T.

Yelp
The ramen was absolutely delicious here. The broth was so flavorful. Also had some of the best service here! Our server was going above and beyond to accommodate us despite it being busy, which we appreciated so much. Can't wait to come back

Yelp
My favorite ramen in Anchorage! I can't say too much about it, but it is so rich and filling, the broth is just perfect. And the French fries are my absolute favorite. Definitely have to add some chili oil and black truffle oil to everything! The peach tea is a great add on, too. As for the space, I wish it was a little larger, but I've never had a problem with waiting, cause it's worth it. Seating is limited but there is plenty of bar space if you are going on your own. And the staff is awesome, very efficient and friendly, which is always important!

Chen Z.

Yelp
Nice and cozy dining place We ordered ramen and curry chicken rice. The ramen soup is rich and tasty. The curry chicken is a bit spicy. Overall, it is good place to eat.

Rebecca V.

Yelp
I loveee the ramen and mayo fries so much here ! Staff is also very friendly, only con is that it's a small place for how people it's gotten now, hoping for a expansion in the near future ;)
google avatar

Yelp
Still good! Still my favorite ramen spot in Anchorage! I like the lychee fizz drink, I think I will try the lychee green tea maybe? Might switch it up. We got the pork chasu sandwich, which is pork on a bao bun. It is very small, like three bites for $4.50. This time around I got the shio ramen. I decided I like the pork better instead of the chicken, so this is my note for next time. I feel like I had less chicken than last time. (Picture is last visit not this one) I do want to try the vegetable ramen, which I might try next time. I think my favorite is the kuromayu ramen, it is identical to the tonkotsu ramen but has black garlic oil. We managed to snag a table around 12 noon, but soon after there was a bit of a wait as the 5 tables and the bar was full. It doesn't take too long to get the ramen out, the other food options take a little longer I believe so people can be in and out. YUM!!

Yelp
I'm a chef visiting from New Orleans in the thick of winter. 5 stars‍ The service was amazing. The food was even better
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Good but not great ramen and bao, service quality not super great and prices are slightly expensive.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
I was disappointed with my tonkotsu ramen. The pork was fine and the egg was fine, but what should have been the stars - the noodles and broth - just didn't shine through. Broth had little flavor and my noodles were too soft. Small portion size too. I loved the sit up bar and the vibes here, but don't think I'll be coming back unless it's for something other than ramen.
google avatar

Edward P.

Yelp
Philip and team we're awesome and super accommodating to me and my party of 7. Nice spot but small reminds me of Japan. Definitely one of the best ramen spots in Anchorage worth the wait make sure you check in on the app. Food overall is a 4.5 out of 5 look forward to coming back!
google avatar

Angie W.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant with great quick and friendly service. Most of amenities places only offer Chasu which I can't eat due to texture. I was incredibly happy when I found out Kami serves Tan Tan Men. It was delicious and hit the spot. Will definitely be back and this is now my go to spot for ramen in Anchorage.
google avatar

Lindsey P.

Yelp
The spicy tonkotsu ramen is delicious and all the sides I tried (crispy gyoza, fries, edamame, and mochiko chicken) were great. I am looking forward to trying another kind on my next visit because they all sounded amazing. I also really want to try the fried pork belly. Yum! The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere was clean and cozy. This will 100% be my go-to ramen place in town!

Yelp
New collab with Barnacle Foods. Had Bullwhip Kelp Chili Crisp dry noodle ramen and Bullwhip Kelp Serrano Pork Chashu sandwich - Next level NOMs! Sweet heat! And new Door Dash up and coming tasty possibilities. Grateful to be given the opportunity to try this amazing Malaysian curry dish. New foodie adventures are happening right now! Go check it out!

Yelp
Food, I had vegetables ramen, the clear broth is very aromatic, smell of mushrooms. Service, is quick and d friendly, the check is accurate.
google avatar

Yelp
I joined the waitlist on my way to the restaurant. We had to find parking as it is limited with a small parking lot. We came inside and waited about 10 mins before we were able to get seated. The staff were friendly and efficient. Location: close to the airport if you are looking for a quick meal (as long as the wait isn't too long) Parking: The restaurant has its own parking lot but it's quite small so try to carpool if you are coming with friends. Spicy tonkotsu ramen ($16): the ramen was the perfect amount of spicy and delicious broth (not too oily). The portion is perfect to get you filled/satisfied. A great meal for a gloomy day! Mochiko chicken ($7): the chicken came out hot and crispy. The sweet & sour sauce complemented the chicken. I'll be back when I'm craving ramen.

Yelp
Disappointed! With how bustling and vibrant this place was, I was really looking forward to a rich, warm bowl of ramen on a freezing cold day. I will say, the inside is fun and well decorated, and the space is tight like an authentic ramen restaurant, so that's cool. Service also wasn't bad. On to the food. I got the spicy miso ramen and it just wasn't good. The menu advertised it as being umami rich which is honestly laughable. It tasted like the broth you make yourself at home from ramen noodle packets with a sprinkling of hot spices/you know what I'm talking about lol! the egg was the best part of my bowl. But $1.50 for an extra half of a soft boiled egg is pretty steep! I for sure thought I was getting a whole one in addition to my half. Even the chicken was incredibly bland. I can also confidently say the Kuromayu ramen was just as weak and boring. The pork belly app was *also* a miss. Pork belly is supposed to be rich, heavy and fatty. This tasted like a fried pork chop. The green tea I got was heavily perfumed and couldn't be classified as green tea anymore with how different and oily it tasted. Do avoid it if you like your teas untarnished. But your best bet is to avoid this place altogether.

Yelp
A good place for a quick meal. Two of us had Kuromaya Ramen, good thick silky broth. We had fast service because we arrived before 5pm on a week night. All tables were full a bit after 5pm. Fun ambiance, you can watch the food prep in the open kitchen.
google avatar

Miles B.

Yelp
Service was standard. Water was refilled consistently and I have no complaints. When it comes to the Ramen I thought it was amazing. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen, and this was the best ramen/most comparable to ramen from Japan that I've had. The broth was rich with perfect flavor. You can tell the noodles are authentic and not cheap instant noodles. I cannot recommend this place enough.
google avatar

Jo P.

Yelp
Definitely worth the tight space and the 10-min wait! If you can swing a later lunch, there were no lines and an open table as we left around 1:30 on a Friday. From the fruity drinks to fried tofu, our party of 5 enjoyed every last bite and slurp of our meal. Our picky toddler filled and finished her little bowl once with daddy's Tonkotsu and twice with big sister's Miso Ramen, which she was loathed to share. Luckily, big sis didn't have to share any of her beautifully charred and seasoned chasu since there was still mochiko chicken (like karaage nuggets) to cut into little sister's bowl. The waitresses managed to be friendly, while also getting things out as fast as they could, without compromising the quality of the food and dining experience.

Yelp
Sensational spicy tonkatsu ramen, calamari, takoyaki & machiko chicken don!! We licked everything clean!! Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Visited Anchorage for the first time, and Kami Ramen was high on our list: Malaysian-Japanese ramen? A must-try! Was definitely glad we went a little earlier than we were hungry, because the wait at 6:10PM (on a Wednesday!) was ~45-minutes. That said, I'm glad we stuck it out so we could devour: - Crispy Gyoza, which was crispy and had great flavor; - Mochiko Chicken, which came with this great sweet'n'sour dipping sauce; - Spicy Miso Ramen (umami-rich miso taste chicken broth, topped with chasu chicken, half ramen egg, light negi, corn, spicy sauce, and nori), which was a nice level of spice--I could've kicked it up a notch, but found I didn't need to--and had a nicely marinated egg; - Tan Tan Men (spicy creamy chicken broth, topped with minced pork, half ramen egg, negi, and nori), which also had great flavor. Wonderful service, even though they were being run off their feet! Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
This place is legit. Best ramen in anchorage, hands down. Spicy miso is 10/10, tonkatsu is as well, the umami fries are ok, and the potstickers are dynamite. Will be coming again but not too often cause its not the cheapest lunch in town.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
My favorite ramen in Alaska. I crave it. Highly recommend, especially on a cold and rainy day.
google avatar

Caressa H.

Yelp
Honestly was blown away with this ramen place. We were visiting and I wasn't sure what to expect for ramen in Anchorage but this place was really good in comparison to places I've tried in other cities. Lots of flavor!
google avatar

Ryan Z.

Yelp
The battle of the spicy ramen! I ordered spicy tonkotsu ramen and my wife ordered spicy miso ramen, both were very good, spicy miso was, however, much better! It had a richer flavor and more spice, there's almost no comparison. If I hadn't compared the two, I would've have still been happy with the tonkotsu. She won't this round. This place is small and always crowded, be prepared to wait while awkwardly jammed by the door. Also, use the QR code if seated at the bar to order quicker. Prices are reasonable but the biggest downside of this place is the smallest portions I've ever had from ramen - this is not necessarily a bad thing, I never usually am able to finish the entire bowl elsewhere. Here, I finished it, was kind of full, but after 10 minutes I felt like I didn't want any more food. So, big picture, you won't feel bad about yourself after eating your entire bowl here, but no chance for leftovers. Other than that, it's a clean restaurant, nothing special, quickly served, in and out. Definitely worth a visit.
google avatar

Zachary C.

Yelp
The ramen is not half bad, and the prices are very reasonable. Service is always kind and polite. I enjoy eating here because the atmosphere feels like a genuine ramen shop one would come across in a place like Japan. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Adeline K.

Yelp
This lil spot is on point... the noodles was cooked to perfection n the broth was super delicious... the service was quick n very professional... this place is bomb
google avatar

Mark Anthony G.

Yelp
Cute little Ramen spot. It hits the spot for your ramen fix. The customer service was quick and easy. Would definitely recommend trying to get there an hour before rush hour! Recommend the pot stickers !
google avatar

Jae H.

Yelp
I went in around 2 PM on a Wednesday by myself. I was sat at the bar right away, ordered the kuromayu ramen and had them make it spicy. It was delicious! The broth was rich and the flavor was on point. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was fun. I will definitely be a returning customer.
google avatar

Joe V.

Yelp
Amazing food ,service is excellent, limited seating, but well worth wait. Parking is tight.
google avatar

Larissa W.

Yelp
We love having this delicious ramen house so close to our neighborhood. It feels like we've stepped into a city restaurant, with the sound of traffic outside, the crowd of the people trying to get in, and the steam rising off the pots in the kitchen. The ramen was great but we were surprised to love the goopy and flavorful French fries.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Wow Well I was here a week ago? Yes I am back. Staff is super friendly and busy. They have a ipad to check in for your party size when you walk in. The space will fill up so be prepared to wait! The food is so good! We got the pork buns this time and wow so worth it. Ice cream is yes in a package but worthy of a trip home. I am always so full when we come here. I have to take togo with my ramen. Got the spicy ramen again! Ahhh so good and spicy. Not crazy but has a kick also they will give you more if you want. The place is great clean and so nice and cozy. We will be coming back again and again.!
google avatar

Tina V.

Yelp
Definitely a must try! I'll be going again to try the other ramens! Went with hubs for a quick lunch.. and it's still a hot spot! Had to get on the waiting list through the Yelp app which was super helpful. Parking is small and very tight especially with the recent heavy snowfall. Service is fast, friendly (waited 11 minutes) and our food came out quick (less than 10min)! So customers are in/out in a timely manner making room for more hungry individuals in a tiny restaurant. The ramen is by far the best served in Anchorage so far I think! Good portions for the price. Balance of sweet/spicy/salty. The broth is delicious with such tender chasu pork! Perfect egg btw-- Definitely brought great flavor profiles with appetizers and ramen. I would've ordered a rice dish, but I was stuffed!
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
Have been twice in the past 2 weeks. Love this place! Have tried both the tonkatsu and the spicy tonkatsu and they are awesome. The gioza are tasty and the pork belly was great too. Be sure to get the mushrooms added to your ramen as well. Service was quick and friendly too.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
I was seated so fast my first time in (second time I had a wait but it was dinner time) and the food was efficient consistently. I loved the Veggie Ramen with an extra egg and a side of spicy sauce! The tofu is well fried, but eat it fast so it won't get soggy in your broth! Love this place, can't wait to go again and again. Sad for the day I move away and can't have it anymore. Psa. Active bustling energy inside.
google avatar

Miles M.

Yelp
The food here can't be beat. My partner had the tonkostu ramen, and I got one of the tomato fried rices, so we could try a selection of what they had to offer. We also got the pork chasu sandwiches as appetizers, and they were honestly worth it just for those. The ramen broth was rich and savory, and the fried rice was cooked perfectly, and the tomato added a nice acidity to what is usually an otherwise very heavy dish. The only thing I would say is that I hope they are able to move into a larger location one day, as the current location is very, very limiting in how many groups can be sat at a time. I would honestly say that is currently the only shortcoming of Kami ramen, and isn't even worth taking off a star as you can put yourself on the waitlist beforehand. Overall, I would say this is a must stop if you enjoy ramen, or just good food in general!
google avatar

Christopher A.

Yelp
Best ramen in Anchorage hands down!! Attentive waitress, and the menu is made to order
google avatar

Hannah V.

Yelp
This is my go-to affordable but delicious Ramen spot. Don't know why it took me so long to try them. The ramen here is very good, broth is so flavorful. The one thing I like about this place in comparison to my other favorite ramen spot, Whisky & Ramen, is that Kami offers more choices for the different kinds of ramen and broth. Noodle are cooked well and there's a bunch of add-ons I can choose from. I've had better Bao buns but it's not bad. The calamari is delicious, crispy and well-seasoned, and you have to try the Tobiko Mayo Fries! Trust me, you won't regret it. Don't forget about the drinks; the bubble drinks. They have jelly and boba pearls. I have literally gone there just to get the drinks. Definitely a favorite spot for me. I already suggested they expand because they cannot accommodate large groups so I wouldn't go bringing like 6+ people group. Most tables seat like 4 people. They do have bar seating too.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Kami was a pop-up when I last visited them, but today, I finally visited their new physical space and...WOW. Simply incredible! It has a unique and fun "small place in a big city" vibe that so few spots in Anchorage have. The ramen was just as tasty as ever. What really impressed me though: the service! The owner recognized me from last time. I had multiple people serving me. Everything was polite, efficient, and FAST. You can easily come in here on a 1-hour lunch break...and maaaaybe even on a 30 min break if you work close enough to them. That is damn impressive for a sit-down restaurant! Everything positive I've said in the previous review still stands!
google avatar

Melanie L.

Yelp
Amazing and best ramen in Alaska! I order here like once a week sometimes 2x if it's raining outside. Their spicy tonkatsu ramen and the fried calamari is my favorite.

Rachael A.

Yelp
This was the most scrumdiddlyumptious meal I've had in Anchorage so far. The meal was amazing, our drinks were amazing and the service was outstanding 10000/5 stars so happy with the experience.
google avatar

Bertwin L.

Yelp
Excellent taste and obvious quality. There was a waiting line, but you check in and can wait on your car. The servers are very polite. The food is high quality and it takes time to serve, but worth it. Everything we got was delicious.
google avatar

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and go here!! We got the crispy gyoza for an appetizer and I loved the dipping sauce it came with. For mains we got the Tan Tan Ramen and the Chicken Katsu curry and it was phenomenal! The ramen was so creamy and the perfect spice level and the curry was so comforting and flavorful with the perfect crispy chicken to go with it. Great prices for what you get and the service is amazing! The wait staff were so sweet and attentive and it's such a cute shop to hangout at. Will definitely be coming back again soon!
google avatar

Elena F.

Yelp
I passed Kami right as I was pulling out of the parking lot of Pho Lotus, and thought 'Ooo! Another Ramen place for me to try!' I came back the next day and was very excited to get to try either their Shoyu Chicken Ramen or Vegetable Ramen. The interior of the restaurant is small, but very quaint and cozy. It reminds me of a Hiyao Miyazaki animated film where the characters are sitting around the ramen bar eating steamy bowls of ramen. I wanted to know which of the two, Shoyu or Vegetable ramen was more flavorful, so I asked the waitress which one had more flavor. She pointed out the Shoyu. I ordered that and another very interesting sounding appetizer, Tobiko Mayo Fries. Basically, they took Japanese Mayo and blended it with tobiko fish eggs. It tasted very similar to ketchup, except with a fancy taste. I loved it! The Shoyu had the right balance of chicken and soy sauce flavor and wasn't too salty. It had a delicious half cooked egg that still had the yoke partially uncooked. It gave the dish a brighter flavor. I will definitely be back here. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. The ramen is reasonably priced for what you get and the appetizers are as well. I'll be trying the Vegetable Ramen next.

Yelp
This is a good restaurant to add to your list for ramen. To start our meal, we tried the deep fried pork belly and it was delicious, very tasty and flavorful. The Katsu chicken curry was a good portion and it had a had a nice crunch to it. The only thing I would improve about that dish is the seasoning, it could use some more. Finally, we had the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and it was a good choice. The spice was nice, but again the seasoning could be better. The service was great, the waiter was attentive and well knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant itself is not that big, but it's intimate. I'd definitely recommend.
