Interesting. Unfortunate.
First time here. Small spot, limited parking, long wait, limited seating.
On entry you have to squeeze in, and sign up on a paper waiting list.
Once you get a table, you then have to get up and digitally order your food selection from a computer menu (which may have a line) as well as pay/tip in advance, then you take a number back with you to identify your table for delivery.
Want another drink? Additional appetizer? Get back up and go back over to order another individual item from the computer, and then pay again.
The entrée I ordered was not in stock so I was asked to select something else. I had ordered the japanese curry, thinking it may possibly be the only unbreaded chicken option on the menu (since I was with a group that selected our eating spot, and I'm on a health kick).
When the waitress came over to inform me my oder wasn't available, she offered black or traditional curry instead. I tried to verify that these options were both unbreaded chicken as well. But she seemed confused, and then confirmed that they were served with"plain" chicken. So I ordered the black.
Yep. Breaded. Laid out on top of a dark sauce, not cooked into it. When it was served I commented that the meat was in fact breaded, even though she had told me that it wouldn't be. She said that all of the Katsu is breaded...
I told her I wasn't trying to order chicken Katsu curry, but a traditional curry (like I THOUGHT the Japanese curry was) and she said that all of the chicken they serve is always breaded.. 🤔
Ah. Ok. Good to know. (Not what you said a minute ago.) I'm honestly still not sure if that is even true.
She asked if I wanted her to remove the chicken from the plate 😅 (so that I would have a plate of empty sauce and steamed rice on the side?), but I declined and decided to just go ahead and have a reluctant cheat day on calories, instead of a plate empty of content.. (Should have just ordered the ramen.)
Gotta say, the black curry sauce was actually very tasty. Not upset about that.
The only other thing I ordered was the sweet and spicy edamame, and it was legitimately served cold. 🫣 Not like, no longer hot. But actually chilled. Like it came from a refrigerator? I've never had that.
The soybeans were crunchy, and uncooked. I didn't complain.. (by this point I was feeling like a picky problem customer) so I just didnt eat them.
It honestly takes quite a lot to get me bothered, and this place was striking out.
As delicious as that black curry sauce was.. I don't think I'll be back to this particular ramen spot. There are better options close by, with a more knowledgeable staff, and diverse menu options.
