The 30 Best Restaurants in Guadalajara, Mexico | Eater

"Since 1975, Santa Tere’s specialist in carne en su jugo, or beef cooked in its own juices, has set the standard among Tapatíos. The beef is stewed with bacon, onions, and beans, then dressed with fresh diced onions, cilantro, and salsa roja and eaten with corn tortillas. Kamilos’s charming old country ranch interiors makes it great for family outings and tourists looking for an old-fashioned, kitschy restaurant to try this regional, hearty Guadalajara dish. Google
This is THE spot for carne en su jugo! Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. As soon as you sit down, you're brought a delicious cup of bean soup with bacon, chips, guacamole and salsa. The small size of carne en su jugo is anything but small, and it pairs so well with the roasted spring onions and salsa. Grab a hot and fresh tortilla and add the ingredients you want and enjoy! On our visit, there was a family celebrating their mom's birthday, and the staff brought out a big fake cake with sparklers--such a fun vibe. It was raining hard when we were there and the lights went out at one point, and the whole restaurant erupted with laughter. Great experience from start to finish.

Google
One of the must-see spots in Guadalajara! The portions are generous, and the flavors are unforgettable. They welcome you with a complimentary frijolitos soup served with crispy tortilla strips. I ordered their emblematic dish, carnes en su jugo—absolutely delicious. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting to discover the true taste of Guadalajara.

Google
I love the legendary place next door but I think Kamilos 333 is better overall. The quality is better and the portions are larger. This is my new place to go in Santa Tere. I will be back. So good!

Google
We came here after the place next door had a long line. It was good and the beans at the start were amazing. I had the quesadilla kamillia and it did not disappoint. Everyone else has carne en su jugo. They said it was on the saltier side but overall good. The service wasn’t that good either; took a while to bring the food out and they brought mine out 10 minutes before everyone’s meals.

Google
It was my first time trying “Carne en su jugo” and I think I came to the perfect spot, everything tasted so good and had that homemade flavor from the salsas and tortillas to tho the main dishes. The service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely come back to eat here. Thank you Kamilos 333!

Google
Really good food, but if your not a big eater come down on a plate size. Really reasonable portions. I totally recommend it, forgot to take photos but their specialty is cane en su jugo.

Comfort food, super quick service, deco that brings you back to your grandma’s place.

Google
I will never forget my first bite of carne en su jugo at this place — it was one of those life-changing moments. The staff, like everyone else in Guadalajara, were incredibly nice, warm, and chatty. If you’re visiting and looking for a place to try the famous carne en su jugo then this is it!

Yelp
I had a lot of options of where to go for my birthday dinner. Time and budget were unlimited, so we could have gone to the most expensive restaurant in Guadalajara if I wanted to. I have eaten in the top 3 restaurants in the world (as of 2024), and I can assure you, I know what great food tastes like.... I could not have chosen a better place than KAMILOS 333! The arrachera meat was succulent, the famous "Carnes en su jugo" were unmatched in a city legendary for them, generous portions, packed with juicy flavors, the sauces, drinks, dessert.... everything was delicious, fresh, and satisfying. I've been coming here for decades, and the quality of service and food always stays consistent. Friendly waiters, fast service, clean tables, festive and warm environment. This place feels like visiting a best friend's home and eating grandma's cooking. Skip the tourist trap in the corner of the same street, this is where locals get their fix!!!

Yelp
A small but beloved spot in Guadalajara, this carne en su jugo restaurant instantly feels like home. As soon as you're seated, you're welcomed with a warm bean soup, crispy home-fried tortillas, grilled onions, and a friendly smile. I ordered an espresso and horchata, plus a side glass of ice to craft a delicious horchata latte, savoring each sip as I mixed it together. The carne en su jugo was outstanding, served with onion and cilantro (which you can opt out of if you prefer) and topped with crispy bacon. It came with a side of fresh limes and warm tortillas. The food is delicious, the vibe is classic, and it perfectly captures the spirit of a go-to, locally loved favorite.

Yelp
Came on a Monday morning slightly hungover and the place was like poppin. Like what? I wish I had that life. Anyway, the servers are literally like on it. Once you sit down, it's go time--super attentive and really helpful. We ordered the carne en su jugo, I got an omelet dish (forgot what it was called), and the yogurt and fruit parfait. Everything really hit the spot.

Yelp
El servicio es de lo mejor, los frijoles con la salsa que te dan como entrada está delicioso. La carne en su jugo no se diga. El sabor está espectacular. Mejor que otros lugares cercas. El espacio del restaurante está increíble. Los baños súper limpios.

Will W.

Yelp
Everything everyone else is saying. I'd just be repeating. Their signature dish is to die for. Give it a try. No alcohol served before noon!

Yelp
The carne en su jugo was delicioso!!! My brother had Carne adobada plate and he loved it as well. I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Came here because they told us it was a finer restaurant than Karnes Garibaldi, located next door from here. First thing as you walk in, is the background music, somewhat irksome. The carnes en su jugo, the house specialty, is no better than Karnes Garibaldi. They serve you a small beans dish as a courtesy that is not bad. The carnes they bring with greasy tortillas: you have to request the regular ones. The place is not crowded--a plus when compared with its neighbor--and the portions are as abundant. But the taste is unfortunately not any better than Karnes Garibaldi. Service is fast; decorations disjointed.
google avatar

Yelp
I tried Kamilos 333 next door to Karnes Garibaldi and Garibaldi is still king. Next year I will go back to Karnes Garibaldi.

Yelp
What a great place to try Carne en su Jugo. very nice atmosphere and everyone was very nice. The small is a very good portion for one person because you get a few sides of it. They give you fresh tortillas with it and also the salsa that came with it is delicious.

Yelp
Kamilos is a Guadalajara tradition! I visit this place each time I'm in town. The carnes and su jugo are delicious, i love the cheese with chorizo and the little tortillas with the grilled onions are perfection!

Yelp
After wanting to try carne en su jugo in Guadalajara, this appeared to be the best place to taste it. The place next door seemed to be more popular because they hold the record for fastest service. You can tell that this is a touristy place that caters to Americans because of the huge basket of chips they placed on my table. I have never seen this huge basket of chips in Mexico. The carne en su jugo and beans were served almost at room temperature which was disappointing. The tortillas were super greasy as if they were brushed or dipped in oil. The service was almost non-existent and the servers did not speak English or check on me other than to take my dishes away. The jericalla tasted like a typical Mexican flan, but burnt on top. Would I return the next time I am in Guadalajara? Most likely no, but good if you're looking to taste carne en su jugo, a uniquely Tapatio dish to try while in Guadalajara.

Yelp
I was very pleased with this place. My family went here for dinner and loved the food. We ordered carne en zu jugo which came with homemade tortillas. We also ordered one kezadya. One thing you should know is to not underestimate how much food they gave you. Along with guacamole and beans 4 people including me were stuffed. The horchata and guacamole was very fresh. The meat was so flavorful and the juice from the meat was worth trying. The tortillas are small but come with plenty to use. The salsa that you get was really good; lots of flavor and a good amount of spice. Another good thing about this place was the service because after we ordered food came in under five minutes. Overall, I'd love to come back again and recommend coming here.

Yelp
Carne en su jugo was delicious! The carnes are tasty. The service was just ok. A lot of locals.

Yelp
Muy buen sabor y servicio. Las porciones podrían ser más grandes, pedimos el plato grande.

Frank M.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! There food and the service excellent. The dessert, coconut helado was great as well.

Jose R.

Yelp
terrible service they took so long to take the order. When the food arrived cockroaches appeared in the table and when that was mentioned to the waiter he acted like nothing was wrong he only offered to change us to a different table. they ruined my appetite. i will not come back.

Yelp
Delicious place that we were recommended to check out by a friend. Service was good, and there were a lot of options on the menu. We shared the carne su jugo and a steak and there was a lot of side items that came to our table. Everything was delicious and we ended the evening with a flan that was very yummy. I loved the eclectic decor and although it seems busy, there are a lot of tables so we got seated quickly. I definitely want to come back here when I visit again!

Cristian M.

Yelp
Carne en su jugo was good. Went only for that. Recommend that dish . Never heard of that before but couple of drivers recommend the place and it was spot on.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
The food is very good and has great portions. If one is not used to this type of food, you will most definitely enjoy it. The restaurant is a beautiful setting, and the ambiance was great. The service was friendly and fast.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I recommend the carne en su jugo! The staff was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Irma G.

Yelp
I had the "carne en su jugo" house specialty. It was tasty, and delicious. You have the option of spicy or non both where great. There's option of large or small, which was good size.

Fernando F.

Yelp
Food is excellent! Worth the wait! Must have the carne con jugo! Prices are reasonable
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely a must when coming to Guadalajara! The carnes en sus jugos was the best! I have never tasted such great flavor in this dish. The service was exceptional. The table was filled with fresh tortillas, beans, and grilled onions when our carne was brought to the table. The crispy bacon on top was the best!
google avatar

Gary D.

Yelp
This is the most delicious authentic food from Guadalajara! Service was fast! Staff was attentive and friendly and most importantly the food tasted fresh and so very delicious!!! Served with fresh tortilla chips a handmade tortillas. This is without a doubt my go to restaurant when I come back to GDL!!!

Fernando F.

Yelp
This restaurant is truly an experience you will not find else where. The carne con jugo is a wonderful meal that everyone should try. The meal is accompanied with small corn tortillas with the exquisite salsa that will satisfy your hunger. This is truly a gem that one must visit while visiting Guadalajara. There is ample parking and you should anticipate waiting for a table. This place always appears to be crowded, but certainly worth the wait!

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW! I've been coming here since I could remember, my entire life, my parents would bring us here when I was still in diapers. I can't describe this very famous dish, "Carne en su Jugo". Kamilos will be the one AND only authentic place that gave birth to this dish. There are many other restaurants that claim to be authentic but they are NOT! For instance there "Garibaldi Karnes" they are super popular. But not for authenticity but, because they offer franchise and are located in multiple parts of the city. Where Kamilos does not. They have their original ONE location, always also visited by celebrities and politicians. As you can see in their hall of fame. Service is absolutely a great experience as well, This is A MUST! when visiting Guadalajara!
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
Karne en su jugo. That's all you need to know! It's a traditional dish that you'll only find in Guadalajara. It was absolutely fantastic and supposedly a good option for the hungover. Although I didn't fall into that category I really loved it. Beyond the dish itself, everything was stellar - the tortillas, quesadillas, horchata. What I also liked was the interior of this place. It was a converted house and they made it feel super authentic and created a very nice ambiance to this restaurant. I used to live in GDL and I don't know how I never made it to this place. It'll be a must-visit going forward!

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Wow!!!! Súper súper delicious! I would be able to eat this all day! I had to FaceTime my mom to ask if she can do the same plate for me at home. It's a must if you are visiting Guadalajara
google avatar

Yelp
Carne en su jugo was really clean and tasty. Meat was super tender and broth full of flavor. Must try along with queso fundido con chorrizo. The chorrizo looked funny like sliced hot dog, but turned out to be best I've had. Also the complimentary bean soup the give you was amazing.. A must try if your touring the town

Yelp
I been told if I want Carne en su jugo, one traditional dish in this region I have to try it here at K333. A group of 8 can easily fit in one of there large format table. This place defiantly has some history, as the waitstaff proudly shared that they have been here for 43 years and counting. We were here around 6 and there's not too many people. All of us only ordered two selection: the carne en su Hugo and a quesadilla dish called kamilila. Well both dish comes with a secret ingredient that I don't find it common in Mexican dish - bacon. No not chicharron but bacon! That makes everything taste great right?! Beef in its own juice, carne en su jugo, is great! I have no comparison beside the one time I tried in this forgettable place in Tequila region so this version definitely is 10x better! Meat is tender, soup is flavorful with complex flavor, and if you order con todo, they will put onion, cilantro and bacon on the dish, or they can also come on side so you can add according to your taste. Kamilila visually looks more like a pizza then the quesadilla that I am used to. You got beans meat bacon cheese all loaded in a large tortilla. It's served with a espresso cup size of jugo that you can sip or pour on top of your pie. That is something I have not see too often. 3 of our friends ordered this, including my hubby who is vegetarian so they kindly sub the mushroom for the meat. Ok there's something odd but so good that I think everyone should order, it's called donkey (burro?!) and it's essentially tortilla dough with salt and cheese that they mold into a not so donkey like shape. Kids love them and I do too! Service is family friendly, I felt like I was at a friend's house talking to all the family members as they all chip in and help and chat with us.

Saybah-Katrina R.

Yelp
Wonderful spot for dinner with authentic flavors. We had their signature dish and kamililla. Kikos, their bean soup dish is complementary and tasty.

Ralph G.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant, super clean, attentive staff. The Karnes en su jugo was on point and the tortillas were perfect. The non alcoholic drink selection could be a little better but I really like this place! Excelente comida, servicio y súper limpio! Muy buen restaurante con buenos trabajadores siempre muy atentos! Muchas gracias por todo!

Yelp
This was my second time here and my appreciation of the food has grown. First time here, 3 years ago, I was put off by not seeing tacos, carnitas, enchiladas.. I was a typical American tourist looking for what I was used to having at home. Kamillos is super authentic Mexican cuisine... I suggest having an open mind and be adventurous.

Yelp
A local friend took us to this place and it was delicious. The first time I had carne en zu Hugo. Very fast and friendly service

Patricia G.

Yelp
I had been to Kamilos 333 about 4 years ago and loved the Carne en su Jugo so much that I insisted on eating here again. I brought my parents on a night of downpour rain and didn't remember that the neighborhood looked a little shady with lots of graffiti on the walls. My parents were a little nervous, not to mention the horrendous rain. However, once the Uber dropped us off and we made a dash for the door, the welcoming interior with the smell of food was very inviting and my parents relaxed a bit. I was nervous the food wouldn't be as good as I remembered it and that the trip in the rain wouldn't be worth it, but Kamilos didn't disappoint! We had guacamole and chips along with melted cheese and handmade tortillas for our appetizers. Then they brought out their delicious Carne en su Jugo, which translates to Meat in its Own Juice. And it was as good if not better than I remembered it. Especially since we were wet from the rain. The warm broth was comforting and enjoyable. My parents were very happy I brought them to Kamilos and would come back again and again!

Yelp
Karne en zu Jugo, Queso Fundido, Guacamole. If you are ever in Guadalajara, this is a must go to place... authentic, local, no tourists, delicious. Order one of everything...! Like I did...
google avatar

Whitney L.

Yelp
Uh really good Carne en su jugo!! Esp after a long day of travel and shopping it's so good! Also, big portions ! The queso fundido is yum!! Such got chorizo !! Also, if you love crunchy tortillas they are also good! And the soup that is served !! UGH EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS HOPE TO BE BACK SOON!!!
google avatar

Roberto C.

Yelp
I come here every time I come to Guadalajara. It's has to be the best Carne en su juego in Guadalajara. This plate is thinly sliced steak simmered in its juices, with pinto beans and jalapeños peppers . It is served in a traditional Mexican style 1inch high bowl. topped with cilantro diced onions and tostadas chips on the side. If you ever come to Guadalajara you must come here.
google avatar

Fatima A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. My cousin brought me here and I was not disappointed. Carne en su jugo is a must have. Ordered guacamole and it was delicious. I'm very happy my cousin brought me here to try out.
google avatar

P J.

Yelp
There are two restaurants that seemed like the 'go-to' for this particular dish. We chose Kamilos 333 since it seemed less touristy and had better reviews. It's right next door is it's competitor Karne Garibaldi, which has a Guinness world record of serving the fastest meal or something like that. Kamilos was a good choice since the food was bomb. And, while we were their the clientele seemed to be local families and business people. Always a good sign, in my opinion!
google avatar

Marty B.

Yelp
Carne en su jugo is great! The service was wonderful. They had both Spanish and English speaking employees.

Berto R.

Yelp
Agree with all the reviews in Spanish... Excellent food. Especially the "gorditas"
