"Though most restaurants in Falls Church’s bustling Eden Center are Vietnamese, Kao Sarn’s street food offerings are an exception. Find strong renditions of dishes like boat noodle soup, sun-dried beef, and crab fried rice; there’s also a substantial selection of vegan dishes." - Missy Frederick

"Northern Virginia Magazine contributor Rina Rapuano praises the Thai restaurant for its amazing aroma of fish sauce, garlic, and fresh herbs. Chef Arin Lapakulchai makes well-executed versions of Thai classics. Highlights include chicken curry puffs, spicy green papaya salad, creamy-centered eggplant stir-fried with ground pork and basil in garlic-chili sauce, and spicy Chinese broccoli with crispy pork belly in a rich brown sauce. The option of a fried egg on top is recommended." - Tierney Plumb

This place is a keeper. I’ve tried many Thai restaurants and this one is definitely a stand out. The food is consistently delicious. There’s plenty of free parking in large parking lot and you’ll have to go in to the building to find this place. There’s not much seating but I’ve never had a problem getting a table. The service is good and the environment is much like you’d find in Thailand. Don’t expect a traditional restaurant experience. A strong recommendation is the drunken noodle (one of favorites), although everything is delicious. I had drunken noodle this last time while my wife had kapow stir fried and my son the basil fried rice.

We wanted Thai for dinner and Kai Sarn was a close by restaurant that we never tried. Eden Center was very quiet for a Saturday night but it was very cold today. Maybe it was our best timing, but this restaurant was the only place in the strip mall that was crowded (or open)! Granted this place is tiny! We decided to sit at one of their tables outside in the mall’s hallway. Pro - not crowded. Con - Cigarette smoke that we have no idea where it’s coming from. Service was exceptional! It was like they knew when we were ready to order and was right by our table to take it. It wasn’t long til our chicken satay appetizer was served. Very tender and tasty with the peanut sauce. Soon after my YenTaFo Noodle Soup came out. Nicely robust in flavor even though I ordered it mild. I loved the flat noodles. My dinner mate ordered the Drunken Noodles. Also ordered it mild which she wished she had asked for something a little more spicier. It didn’t help the dish was slightly burnt. But overall the meal was good and service was terrific.

Second time getting drunken noodle here and is really good! The red curry chicken noodle soup was good as well. Loved the crispy noodles on top! The owner was really attentive and sweet, and food came out super quick. Amazing prices too (both dishes ended up totaling only ~30)

I think this is my new favorite Thai spot in Virginia! Everything from food to service was amazing. It’s located inside Eden center and we were seated right away. We started with the papaya salad and chicken satay. Both were delicious, and I loved the sauce on the papaya salad. I also got the Thai iced tea with milk and the pad see ew with chicken for my entree. I did a medium spice level and it was perfect. The portion was also big enough that I had a lot leftover for a later meal. For dessert we shared the mango lover dessert which was a mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream and the mango mousse cake which was also so good! Other entrees our group ordered was the pad Thai with shrimp and drunken noodles with chicken. Everyone loved their food and we definitely will come back soon!

Delightful little hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant! I never thought I would be looking for anything other than Vietnamese food in the Eden Center, but this hidden gem surprised me with their outstanding food, friendly service, and great prices. I visited Kao Sarn with a fairly large group for late weekend lunch. We had just gotten back from a long hike so were fairly ravenous, but, thankfully, Kao Sarn was super efficient and got our food to us really quickly. I ordered their yen ta fo, a traditional Thai pink noodle soup made with rice noodles, a variety of seafood, veggies, and tofu. The gorgeous pink color comes from red fermented bean curd, which not only gives the soup a beautiful hue, but also imparts a deep, rich umami flavor. The dish was outstanding, with an incredible flavor from the broth, tons of perfectly cooked mixed seafood, and a generous portion of tender, easily slurpable wide rice noodles. The bowl was topped with two large fried wonton wrappers, which added a great crunch to the dish. We were seated at a wooden picnic table outside of the actual restaurant, but inside of the broader complex the restaurant was located inside of. The hallway was very quiet and peaceful, although it seemed like the inside of the actual restaurant was a bit busier.

This wonderful little restaurant in the Asian market has very delicious food and provides great hospitality. By far some of the best Thai food I have had in a while. I felt I was back in Korea where I last had some of the most authentic food. Definitely a place worth the stop in Falls Church VA.

hidden within one of the malls of eden center, this hidden gem is truly a place to visit. i absolutely love thai food but was initially skeptical of a thai restaurant in the heart of eden, known for vietnamese culture/food. but it was SO GOOD!!! the fried calamari was super cripsy. i loved it as it was but i think the sauce could have been a little more special. the spicy khao soi chicken was AMAZING!! the chicken was generous and tender. the sauce was savory, coconut creamy, and addicting. the noodles were the perfect texture and soaked up the sauce perfectly. i highly recommend this dish!! the spicy beef pad khi mao was to die for. the wok hei flavor was out of this world!! you could literally hear the chef stir frying the noodles and beef. it was savory, perfectly seasoned and spicy. i cannot emphasis enough how good this was!! for a thai restaurant in eden center, i was pleasantly surprised. i loved every bit of my experience and the staff were attentive and nice. i will definitely return here in the future!!

Cute little shop serving up a mix Thai street food and your ordinary Thai dishes that are widely recognized outside the motherland. The owner is nice and checks on you, but the waitress is a nice older Vietnamese lady who can be chatty and abrupt.... She is nice still. Been here several times over the years. This was probably going to the last. Was craving boat noodle soup so ordered that... But was also tempted by the Khao soi as well.. Asked for more pickled vegetables, was told it's already mixed it and that is it. The broth was lacking richness of coconut cream, depth and intensity (tasted more like watery yellow curry). Beef in the noodle soup was chewy. Broth was cloudy. Was underwhelming really. The service and homely feel made up for the taste.
