Where to Eat on Old South Pearl Street | Eater Denver

"Open since 2009, this laid-back cottage pizza parlor with a garden patio serves handmade Naples-style pies as well as craft beers and wine. Pizza options range from standards like a margherita and four-cheese to the more colorful jalapeno business, which is topped with pesto, jalapenos, cream cheese, and diced tomatoes. A second location shares a space with Uno Mas Taqueria y Cantina (see below) on Tennyson Street in the Berkeley neighborhood." - Gigi Sukin

My wife and I stopped in here on a whim after the zoo, and we made a great choice. The atmosphere was so laid back. We loved that it was a literal house, and the kitchen was in the detached garage. The service was kind and on top of it. The pizza we each got was delicious. Mine was an odd combination of flavors… but it worked so well! When we are back in Denver in the future we will be sure to stop by again.

Google
Had high hopes for wood fired pizza. The atmosphere is basic and feels like a coffee shop rather than a restaurant. Chairs outside are metal so if it’s chilly outside, they are freezing so bring a blanket. We were excited for the pizza and waited over 30 minutes for them to arrive only to be extremely disappointed. The crust has no rise at all and no flavor, no seasoning at all. The tomato sauce is good, and toppings were fine, but my pizza was cold which was crazy after waiting so long. My husband’s was a bit warmer and he had tons of toppings which helped the pizza. It looked like a bake at home frozen pizza and tasted about the same. Definitely not worth it, unsure how it has such high ratings. On top of that, we had two pizzas and an appetizer and no drinks and it was $86 with tip. Way too expensive for what it is and the basic service.

This was the best pizza I’ve had in a long time! I picked this place because the veggie pizza looked really good online. It was more than good! Loss offers a unique pizza menu, each with something special. The veggie pizza had roasted garlic, olives, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and arugula drizzled with a balsamic reduction. No red sauce! Didn’t need it! The flavor was amazing. I substituted mozzarella and provolone for non- dairy cheese. The crust was semi-thin, perfectly baked with no soggy spots. Jack had the wild mushroom pizza with caramel onions, green peppers and plenty of non-dairy cheese. Also no red pizza sauce. It was equally as delicious as mine. We sat outside on their beautifully shaded eating area. Peaceful and so yummy. There is also indoor dining, but most people sat outside this hot summer evening. Service was great. We were asked how we were doing about four times. I noticed the staff routinely serve a bowl of water to dogs and offer kibble. Kids can have pizza of course, but there is also spaghetti and meatballs or buttered noodles. There were salad selections too but we didn’t try them. There was chocolate cake and something else for dessert, but again - we were only there for the pizza. They also serve wine, beer and cocktails. Pearl street is a hip area in the Platt Park neighborhood of Denver. There are many restaurants and bars to try there. Parking is street parking only, but you don’t have to pay to park. We parked a couple blocks away on Pennsylvania Street.

Google
What an adorable place!!! As soon as you walk up, you feel like you’re at Aunties house and you know they’re cooking up something good! From craft beers to soft drinks! I had a pleasure of having the BEST Gluten free pizza in Denver! Oven roasted and fluffy! Paired with a 4Noses Raspberry Blonde Ale, sitting out on the deck on a beautiful patio and old furniture that makes you cozy and feel like you’re in a dreamy book! Great family spot to enjoy the sun and food! A MUST stop by spot, and all around great atmosphere from the staff with a greet and smile!! 20/10 recommendation!

Google
What a great pizza in a great location! Actually, I got the Wild Mushroom (bottom in the picture) and my wife got the Veggie! We both had the non-dairy cheese. The location was not the easiest to find parking for the walk to the restaurant was very nice in that neighborhood!

Google
Excellent food! Great wine selections. Usually get a non-red sauce pizza and the arugula salad. They have a dog friendly patio - a plus for a favorite neighborhood restaurant. The staff is always great. I've dined in and take out. Consistently a good experience. Highly recommend 👍

Google
Kaos is by far the best pizza I’ve ever had. Their crusts are always perfect with just a slightly crisp texture. The toppings are well balanced between cheese, sauce, meats & veggies. They have a funny cartoon dog painted over a doorway that was a spontaneous caricature done while painting the room yellow. Great vibe, excellent service and friendly people!

Billy J.

Google
Ordered a pizza to go. 1, The parking situation is, street parking. If it’s busy, you might have to park two or three blocks down. 2. There’s only one size pizza. 3. The sauce is a sweeter sauce than I’m used to and it seemed a light on the pepperoni.

Yelp
The pizzas are unique and the ones I have had are all delicious with very fresh toppings. Ironically, their jalapenos are pickled and not fresh. The service was fast and friendly. We got a piece of chocolate cake to go which was giant, dark and moist, and survived the long trip home. Casual atmosphere with classy-hippy food.

Yelp
I'm pretty stunned by this pizza, mostly because so many people/sites seem to list it amongst the better pizza places in Denver. Literally Dominos is 2x as good. And I say that as an anti-chain elitist. The closest pizza I've had to it was one of my first attempts at homemade pizza, as a teenager. That's not a compliment. I couldn't make a decent crust and I couldn't even melt cheese properly. That's the level we're talking about. So mediocre that you become thankful for the bits that are edible. The thing that should've differentiated it from that type of pizza would be the capocollo. The place does have a (seemingly) impressive array of choices of topping. But their 'capocollo' was, I think literally, just Canadian bacon. And particularly dull Canadian bacon.

Yelp
Kaos Pizza a great neighborhood place that gets outside seating ambiance correct. Their service is usually pretty good and the takeout is usually 20-25 unless you order in advance. I always order the vegetarian pizza when I come here and love it. Someday I'll venture away from my go to order, well maybe. :) I think you need some good Kaos in your hectic life.

Yelp
Upon gleaning the extraordinary reviews disseminated of this venue, I felt compelled to not only frequent it, but order something off of the beaten track: spaghetti, not a wild deviation at a supposed Italian restaurant. I just didn't feel like pizza. Professional critics do that sometimes, serving as a litmus test of the commitment to, and depth of, [the] quality that the owner is willing to invest, to bring excellence to all areas of the restaurant. Worded another way, if it's on the menu, the restaurant should not only stand behind the item, but celebrate it. Kao's spaghetti proved barely edible, existing as a pretentious Spaghetti-O's concoction. Did they ever dump sugar into the red sauce, presumably the same sauce used for the pizzas! It was horrific. I had to stop about 1/3 of the way through the entree. The sausage was broken into little lumps, definitely an odd presentation. Despite pouring mountains of cheese and red peppers into the mix, I just couldn't overcome this half-box of sugar tragically up-ended into the recipe. This is an example of a hot venue, Pearl Street Neighborhood, driving the popularity, not the food. For vastly superior pasta, try Lou's Italian Specialities' Penne Vodka (in the RINO District), Carmine's Lonardo in Lakewood, or IlPastaio, Boulder. The good news' that I ordered the children's portion costing me under $14 out the door. I was going to get some ice cream at Sweet Cow. Now? No need. I've ingested more sugar from eating 1/3 of this children's meal than one would have in a double scoop of chocolate, there.

Yelp
The place itself already looks amazing. A pizzeria popping out of nowhere with fun decors in the middle of a row of houses. The garlic bread is perfectly cheesy with nice pieces of grilled garlic. The sauce is tangy but not sour. Pizza was fantastic, nicely thin, filled with rich flavor, and great to fold. The staff were so helpful and quick to take care of us. Device was very on point. We sat outside in the heated room, ambiance was fun and comfortable. 10/10, definitely don't miss this spot if you got a craving for a great slice. Parking is tough since it's street parking on a one way residential, so be warned.

Yelp
This place hasn't disappointed me in over 5 years! Every visit has been great food, great service, and left me feeling satisfied. The salads, pizzas, and pastas are solid. Plus, their adult beverage selection always has fantastic options. On our last visit, a surprise knockout item was their clam linguine - huge portion for at least 2.5 meals. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We tried this restaurant based on their website. When we got there, we stood at the front for a while until someone finally came from the back. He told us to sit anywhere. The restaurant was pretty empty. We sat down with our menus and I immediately noticed there wasn't a kids menu (there was one on their website). When I asked the server, he somewhat danced around about half portions. We ended up getting our daughter a half portion of spaghetti. I just found the whole thing weird. The pizzas were good but the server never offered to refill our water.

Yelp
We ordered the Smokestack Pizza on a GF crust - super yummy and quick service. The gluten free crust does fall apart and is easier to eat with a fork for that reason. Still delicious, just something to note.

Yelp
Best place to go for lunch on a beautiful day. Gorgeous garden patio and great food! Always enjoy the pizza, salad and wine!

Yelp
The prices may intimate you more a minute, but there is a reason these pizzas aren't free. It's better quality than Sexy Pizza, Homegrown Tap and dough, etc....The guys are great when they give your pickup order....high or not, these guys do a good job and give a shit. Mac and cheese pasta hits. Appreciate yall.

Yelp
I never leave reviews but was very bothered by my experience last night. Pizza was below average and way overpriced. $52 for 2 small pizzas (one gluten free). Crispy crust but undercarriage seemed undercooked. Service was lackluster. Side sauce was $2! Price gauge. Cool ambiance, maybe a place to grab a cocktail I guess?

Yelp
Food was excellent, but service was super slow. We came on a Friday at 4:30pm. It took over 1 hour to get our food, despite us placing our orders promptly. We had 3 rounds of drinks before our food came. No acknowledgement was made regarding how long the food was taking. It was bizarre. We had the mushroom pizza, ziti, and linguini with clams. Everything was delicious, though surprisingly spicy. Luckily, we like spice! The linguini with clams was super flavorful and there were a generous amount of clams. The ziti was cooked nicely and had a lot of heat. Overall, I would come back for the food, but would make sure not to be in a rush to get anywhere.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was quick and friendly. The pizza is good, but nothing special and way overpriced for the quantity. I wouldn't go out of my way to get this again, since the tastiness isn't worth the price.
google avatar

Yelp
Kaos has a cute patio area and serves up some delicious 'za. They have decent drink options as well as salads, sandwiches for lunch, and pastas. The staff was nice and the food came out decently quick. Great place for outdoor dining on the cute Pearl Street.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
I ordered take out. I got the Mac and cheese, Cesar salad, and pepperoni pizza. When I received my pizza it was cold, not too great. I was not fond of the Cesar salad dressing, it had a weird taste. The Mac and cheese was not what I expected, they honestly false advertised. It did not have bread crumbs, it was a little dry, and cheese was a bit burnt.
google avatar

Shin M.

Yelp
Sat in the front patio. They also have a covered back patio. The pesto prosciutto wasn't great. Definitely would not get that again. Reminder to avoid non red sauce pizzas. The pepperocini pizza was tasty though ($22) Caesar salad was ok Two pizzas and the salad was enough for 3 adults (2 women and 1 man)

Yelp
Our story begins with a 7 year old in tow. On a whim our 7 year old agreed to go on an adventure and try something new.... What?! I said let's go and we jumped in the car set out in a 30 minute journey from the burbs to try Kaos Pizzeria. We walked in around 7 and it was crowded in the small welcome area. We were greeted promptly and met Salvatore. He was funny, upbeat and a delight for our rambunctious 7 year old interaction with. He was also very accommodating to us old people! It was a busy Friday night and while there was a wait to get our food. We kept busy with a walk about in this cozy and welcoming establishment found coloring books and crayons to stay busy. When our pizza arrived at the table it was delicious and our 7 year old agreed with devouring 4 pieces of cheese pizza. The beer selection was a warm welcome compared to the stagnate options in the burbs! Our 7 year old wanted to leave the follow review and we would warmly agree. 5 STARS - 10/10 - would come again for breakfast lunch and dinner! We will definitely be returning. See you next time Salvatore!

Yelp
This was one of the few pizza restaurants open after 9 pm on a weeknight, so we picked up pizza and salad to go from here. Our meal was ready quickly. Pizza was decent. Caesar dressing was different, not my personal favorite. Cute atmosphere, especially the quaint outside patio on a nice evening.

J M.

Yelp
This place is just amazing! Matthew our server was excellent and so friendly. We were able to enjoy a lot of great food in Denver and this gem was one of not our favorite. The appetizer was an amazing sampler platter of cheeses and bread, with vegetables and pesto. My apologies the name is eluding me. Excellent outdoors atmosphere! And the pizza was cooked amazingly in a wood fire. Excellent drinks as well. The IPA's are outstanding. And more than reasonable. Highly recommended to try this jewel of Denver.

Yelp
I dined there today at lunch with my parents and nieces. The outdoor area was beautiful. The food was great (we had the beet salad, veggie pizza and prosciutto pizza). Our server was AWESOME. I heard him mention he was the only one on. He was hustling, he was very friendly, we got everything we asked for right away. He really personalized our experience. I'll be back. I'll be recommending. I hope this gets to him. Thank you!!

Julie R.

Yelp
Excellent food and wine in a relaxing atmosphere. I love dining outdoors here. The pizza and salads are excellent, and are ever in large portions. The service is good and everyone is friendly.
google avatar

Cheryl W.

Yelp
This place is so cute and chill. Plenty of outdoor seating with lots of shade from the table umbrella. The street is somewhat busy, but it's not loud. The pizza was sooooo delicious. We got the smokestack pizza and the prosciutto pizza. The two pizzas were perfect for our group of four. I loved both pizzas, but the smokestack is definitely my favorite. The goat cheese is so soft and almost melts in your mouth. The poblano peppers pack just a liiiiiiittle bit of heat so it's perfect even for those who don't enjoy spice. I miss this place already!
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
Came here a little late in the evening but they were still going strong outside. Our server sat us on the back patio (enclosed) and even turned on another heater for us which was nice. Ambience was overall fine as was the waitstaff - friendly and attentive. We started with a beet salad which was super good, very sweet beats. Dressing, cheese, and greens were good too. We then split two pizzas - the margherita and the calabrese. Both pizzas were an okay size, but the slices are *small*. To me, this is an issue only because the toppings kind of get too large/condensed (?) for the small slices. The margherita flavor was okay, but it should really have fresh tomato slices - the sauce didn't quite do it for me. The calabrese I like the sweet/hot peppers, but the meat slices were kind of too large/overpowering for the size of the slices. The crust was okay but needed a little longer cooking time and maybe some seasoning of some kind. Overall the pizza just didn't do it for us. Ambience, staff, salad were all very good, but I probably wouldn't rush back for the pizza.

Yelp
This wood fired pizza place is in the heart of a nice neighborhood in South Denver. I went by myself while in town and was able to get a beer and pizza pretty quickly. I saw couples and families both enjoying the food. My pizza was yummy. I got the Capocollo & added an egg. My only complaint was that the egg was broken and whipped into the pizza instead of being cooked on top. Idk if that's an option but I was surprised when it arrived at my table. But I recommend them highly. Ate my leftover too!
google avatar

Mallory B.

Yelp
Possibly the best pizza I have had in Denver. Do not skip on the seasonal watermelon salad. Definitely the best salad I have had in such a long time. They brought us out the wrong pizza at first, but got us our pizza out quickly. Such a delicious pie!

Maddi H.

Yelp
Incredible outside seating, reasonable prices for great food, and super nice staff! Service was a little slow but I think it's just because they didn't have that many people working - the staff that was there was working hard!
google avatar

Daisy D.

Yelp
The burrata plate was a 10/10, absolutely stunning arrangement, and the seasoned flat bread should be sold in every store. Pizza was okay, the crust was very flat and floury. Great atmosphere and loved their outdoor seating.

Mary M.

Yelp
I really wanted to provide a better review, but I ordered from Kaos last night to be delivered. A friend told me how great the Caesar salad was so I ordered it along with a pizza. The lettuce in the salad was so old it was brown. I didn't notice right away because the salad was completely covered with grated parmesan cheese so I couldn't see it. I attempted to call the restaurant with no luck. But I was asked for a review right after it was delivered and provided one.
google avatar

Inga W.

Yelp
It's a cute place with very friendly staff but very meh food. The garden and back patio are cute and dog-friendly, which we loved. The beet salad was better than we expected, the beets were sweet and plentiful, but the goat cheese was dry and crumbly like it came from a repacked box. The pizza was terrible. The dough didn't cook, it was soggy, and the crust was not bubbly or nicely golden. The toppings were OK although the fresh mozzarella was a bit stringy, not what expected and some pieces didn't have cheese at all. There is no reason for bad pizza.
google avatar

Joseph T.

Yelp
Think I went to this place about 3 weeks ago, It was solid from what I remember. Pepperoncini was a good pick.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
I wish I could eat here everyday. Everything was amazing and unique. My group tried the jalapeño business pizza, Caesar salad, spicy Italian sausage pizza and breadsticks. We thought the pizza was going to be individual size but they're definitely big enough to share. There's a cute outdoor patio space with shaded seating that feels so relaxing. Street parking. The waitress was so friendly and service was quick.

Thomas L.

Yelp
Servers were nice enough, but it's probably the worse Mac n Cheese I've had in my life. Stringy and flavorless cheese; it was just mid.
google avatar

Abby A.

Yelp
Shocked this place doesn't have 5 stars, one of my favorite pizza spots in Denver! The San Marzano base is incredible.
google avatar

Amelia S.

Yelp
I got a Kaos pizza for pick up. It was ready in 15 minutes, hot, and fresh. It was a pepperoni pizza done right with the perfect amount of cheese and crispy round pepperoni.

Scott C.

Yelp
Very good gluten free pizza, and decent vegan cheese. Nice atmosphere and outdoor options.
google avatar

Martine A.

Yelp
I always enjoy dining at Kaos. It's especially nice outside in the shade of large trees during the warm weather. The pizzas are always well prepared and fresh as are the salads. A nice choice of wine and beer is available. It's rare to find a casual but elevated pizza restaurant. I'll be back!
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
Have heard good things about this place, so we decided to stop in for a late lunch when we were in the area. It was late for lunch, so I didn't think much about it being mostly empty.. The patio was cute. However, things started to get weird when our pizza didn't come out for like 45 minutes.. maybe even an hour.. after ordering it.. We had our three year old with us and he started falling apart somewhat, as we waited. When it finally arrived.. after all that waiting.. it was kind of.. terrible? The cheese wasn't even melted We also ordered some pesto to add on my son's pizza and it didn't even taste like pesto.. it was like a garlic free pesto. I mean.. he loved the pesto anyways.. it was basily. I definitely wouldn't come here again. My husband actually had to go hunt someone down for our check and a box for our pizza... service was super questionable and the pizza was meh.

Tim S.

Yelp
Ordered the Hawaiian pizza which was small, average and overpriced. Overall somewhat disappointing.
google avatar

Sole G.

Yelp
Had the margarita pie . It was so delicious and I loved the crispy crust definitely will be a returning costumer when I'm in town

Karyn C.

Yelp
It's the best beet salad in Denver! It cones with a mountain of lettuce, I don't eat. I hope to be able to order it without the mountain of lettuce or I'll have to get a rabbit! My husband likes the spaghetti .

Kanani C.

Yelp
Fantastic customer care and even better awesome pizza! Arrive early for the happy hour prices.
google avatar

Amber H.

Yelp
Last night we were at a brewery that had a relationship with another pizza place however, when I called to place an order with them, they said it would be an hour and a half to two hours to deliver a half mile down the road. I found Kaos and they had great reviews. Plus they said they could deliver within 30 or so minutes. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and a wild mushroom. The delivery was fast, and the driver was courteous. The pizza was delicious and hot! Some of our friends who were with us said they can't wait to go try it in person.

Emily H.

Yelp
Amazing pizza and such a cute venue, great outdoor patio in front and cute "rooms" inside. I took some out of town friends who had the veggie pizza (suggestion of our wonderful server Annie) and they said it was one of the best pizzas they have ever had! I myself have been once or twice but this should be a more often go too because I have never had a bad experience!
google avatar

Myrna S.

Yelp
We arrived close to closing on a Sunday night with two hungry and tired grand kids in tow. The whole family was celebrating a great success at the theater as the grandkids were main characters in the Littleton performance of Matilda. They were just out of show number 3 and their patience was wearing thin. The staff here was so kind and tried to assist As quickly as possible - not necessarily an easy task when gluten free comes in to play, but they took it in stride and delivered several GF and non GF incredibly yummy pizzas, and 3 Really good, fresh and tangy, not overly dressed salads. They also got all of the drinks right and topped off the meal with a GF chocolate cake slice to celebrate! Incredible! We will be back!
google avatar

Carlos F.

Yelp
Pizza was amazing. Best Caesar dressing to crouton ratio!! Tons of seating on the patio, great for a nice sunny day.

Michele P.

Yelp
We ordered a pizza on line for delivery and forgot to put in the whole address, the driver called but we were not sure he could deliver the pizza we called Kaos and they were happy to make us another pizza , however the delivery driver showed up and all was good, a big thank you to both the delivery driver and Kaos
google avatar

Yelp
They're so delicious!!! Love the sitting outside as well. The service is great. Definitely worth visiting.
