"Another great casual sushi option, Kappo Osen is the place we find ourselves gravitating towards when we can’t decide what to eat for dinner. That’s because the sushi here is the most exciting in the neighborhood, but the menu goes way beyond raw fish. They also have long lists of rice bowls, hot pots, nabes, and charcoal-grilled skewers. Which is to say, we’ve never ordered the same thing here twice, but some standouts include the tofu agedashi, jidori tsukune, udon nabe, and sushi omakase. The outdoor set-up here is nice with its corner location and fancy heat lamps, but we like to come with a group, order big, and sit in an indoor booth secluded by a billowing curtain for dramatic effect. photo credit: Matt Glendal" - Arden Shore

Fun place with very gracious folks. We really loved the sea bass croquettes, and followed with two hot stone rice bowls, eel and salmon. The unagi was well prepared and their sauce is less BBQ and more subtle. Plenty of eel. Same with the salmon, not over seasoned. Rice was also fine and we will go back for raw fish next visit; their omakase choices look good. Had a nice few desserts including persimmon and ice cream and a great stout Japanese beer.

As an avid sushi seeker, I came with high expectation due to reviews. However, it did not meet my expectations. We ordered sushi omakase ($100), unagi stone hot pot, and few other dishes. As for the omakase, the quality of the fish was average and rice (shari) was disappointing. When it comes to pricy sushis, I expect good quality from not only the fish but the base as well. Also for something that cost 100, I expected something better than a take out tray presentation. As for Unagi stone hot pot, it was actually decent! Unagi was flavorful, soft and juicy. Soft crab roll (current season special), I do not recommend. Bitter, dry and bland. Overall, this place has average sushi and few good warm plates. I recommend sticking to cooked dishes over sushis. Their sushis are priced ridiculously high for subpar quality and presentation.

Google
In A Nutshell: -I've eaten at Kappo Miyabi a handful of times & it's actually really good. -Yes, their menu prices are on the $$ side, but their food quality is top-notch. -I especially enjoy their Seafood Udon, you get a couple pieces of big shrimp, a few mussels & clams mixed w/ some cabbage & udon noodles. -The pork broth makes this soup really mouth-watering & soothes your soul in the breezy, cool Santa Monica evening weather. -Their sashimi & sushi options aren't bad either & highly recommended. Overall, the draft beer at $10 is high, but that's really the only knock about this place.

Google
Walked in during luch hours on a Sunday and was immediately met with warmth from the hostess. Sat at the sushi counter, ordered Sapporo, sushi, fish collar, rolls e.t.c. Staff is profesdional and courteous, food is exceptionally good, and atmosphere is light, friendly, with nice playlist on the background. They also have a small TV for sports and events. I totally enjoyed this place.

Google
The fish is fresh and nice portions. A nice place to eat after visiting the beach. Recommend👍🏻

Google
Nice place with high quality fish. A little pricey but it's Santa Monica so pretty typical. We didn't have reservation so we had to sit at the bar which was fine. It's a little annoying that their machine at the bar beeps every few minutes when they get an order, customers shouldn't have to hear the beeping sound! Otherwise it was a good meal. Also it was really cold inside, the customers next to us asked them to reduce their AC. Dress warm if you eat here.

Google
Service was good. Atmosphere was great. Sushi rolls were so dry and flavorless. Only thing I enjoyed was the Sashimi. Oh, and if you're going to charge 6 DOLLARS for a diet Coke, at least have the decency to have a fountain drink dispenser and not bring a plastic bottle that only cost 1.89 in the local gas stations. Food is not worth the price.

Google
We happened upon this place while exploring Santa Monica beach and being turned away from the neighboring Gyu Kaku (told that there would be a 2-hour wait for 6 people). We called the restaurant and asked if we could be seated sooner and were told to come right over. It was probably a 5 minute walk from the 3rd street promenade. We were instantly seated upon arrival in a cozy part of the restaurant. The server was very friendly and took great care of us. We ordered the uni box, but they said because uni is so difficult to get nowadays, they substitute it with tuna. Okay fine, but maybe you need to revamp your menu because you should not serve a dish that literally says uni in it and not serve uni with it. That was my only dislike with this restaurant and why I am deducting 1 star from my review. The "uni" box dish was still very good nonetheless. We also got the fatty tuna roll and a couple of skewers (steak and pork). The food here is excellent and the fish tastes really fresh, as it should being they are 3 blocks away from the ocean. The price is on the higher end for me though, but to be expected because of their location.

Yelp
Authentic Japanese restaurant! Valuable lunch set, fresh sashimi, authentic sukiyaki. Great service as well! I would definitely come back

Ashley K.

Yelp
This should be the go to place for people who loves kushiyaki. Good food, amazing customer service. I love it!

Emilia C.

Yelp
Ambience, service and food was above and beyond. Everything was just perfect, the food was amazing. The host/server Kevin was super polite, warm and welcoming. You can't go wrong with coming here, regardless of the occasion. And honestly the green matcha ice cream was just divine, it's exactly what all matcha ice cream should taste like

Yelp
Delicious and fresh sushi with great service. My boyfriend and I tried quite a few dishes the usuals: pork and veggie gyoza, miso soup, the fried pork belly was so rich and savory. We also had the hamachi crudo (so tasty with a nice bit of spice w/the jalapeño), toro sashimi (so nice and buttery), the salmon avocado and hamachi special rolls (classics but still so yummy and fresh) Finished with a matcha butter cake, such a delicious treat! Very nice and attentive staff and great jazz music that had us doing little dances in our seats.

Yelp
KM is a very nice, traditional Japanese sushi restaurant. The selection is extensive and should satisfy most discriminating palates. I particularly enjoyed the lamb(top ten ever for me), garlic edamame and the ikura nigiri was fresh and excellent. Service was excellent by a very nice server. I appreciated her traditional Japanese wardrobe and refined demeanor. The location is very convenient just south of wilshire not far from the Santa Monica beach but in a calmer area than the touristy promenade. I spent $127 total which is reasonable since I ordered many items. However, the $7 charge for a sprite(double most places)and their item prices in general were of below average value losing them one star in my rating. Recommended.

Yelp
The food here is top notch. The Philly roll is one of my absolute favorites and their beef sukiyaki, especially the broth, was so soothing. Their miso glazed eggplant is also highly reviewed but once it cools down, it's almost too greasy. As a quick note, the service is ok - because of where we were seated, one of the waitresses happened to be standing really close to us the entire time, which made me a bit self conscious. I believe she just wanted to be nearby all the tables in case anyone needed anything but I wish we weren't seated so close to her if that's her normal standing point. Please note you'll need a code to use the restroom. Overall decor is ok.

Yelp
Parking is a little difficult but Kappo Miyabi is right at the corner of Arizona and 7th street. It's right next to Backyard Bowls if you haven't tried that amazing açaí spot! Came here for DineLA and left a little disappointed. Loved the presentation though! Food was okay, I think the agedashi and miso glazed eggplant were probably the best. The spicy tuna on crispy rice didn't seem fresh because of the post results via stomach ache. DineLA meal set $35 味噌汁 Miso Soup = average グリーンサラダ House Salad = average シェフのチョイス刺身 Chef's Choice 5pcs Sashimi = okay but not mind-blowing 揚げ出し豆腐 Agedashi Tofu = good 茄子味噌 Miso Glazed Eggplant = good 地鶏唐揚げ Chicken Karaage = good 鮭の照り焼き Grilled Salmon = okay it's definitely not wild or fresh salmon スパイシーツナのクリスピーライス Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice = horrible! うざく Sunomono Cucumber with Unagi = okay Service was friendly as they did check in and ensure everything was smooth. The ambiance was clean and loved that they have two spots for outdoor seating. They have an indoor patio where it's dog friendly in case you don't want to be near the street corner.

Yelp
Delicious food! Good variety of Japanese food, drinks and desserts. The service was amazing and the ambience of the restaurant was perfect for a date night out.

Katherine P.

Yelp
First of all the menu had so many options from sushi, to skewers to hot plates. I choose the 8 piece omakase and a couple skewers (Chilean Seabass and the Wagyu). Although the sushi was fresh, the rice not so much. It was just average. Both skewers were very good though and I would definitely order these again. The restaurant is very cute inside with a few different seating areas. It's about 7 blocks from the beach so that's always a positive. There's tons of metered street parking right in front.

Dongjie C.

Yelp
The service was excellent, and the food was even better. My favorites were the skewers - the Chilean sea bass and beef tongue were outstanding. The uni was fresh, and we enjoyed the cold platter with uni and scallop. The uni blue crab box was also great, with the crab meat having a smooth texture. I'll definitely be coming back to explore more of the menu. The location is also convenient, just next to Santa Monica. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it wasn't too busy.

Yelp
Got the omakase. It disappointed. Fish wasn't fresh tasting. The way they cut it also made some sashimi feels like it was tough in some places. Their rolls were ok but when you get omakase, the rolls aren't your main concern. It was alot of fish for the price it was but the quality was just the issue. I rather pay twice as much for better quality and taste then pay for disappointment. Can't recommend this place at all sad to say.

Yelp
Came here for dinner with family as first timers. It's a nice restaurant located on a corner. Our waitress was nice and knowledgeable of the menu. We ordered different types of sushi, wagyu gyoza, and a chicken teriyaki bento box. The food tasted okay, I couldn't taste the wagyu in the gyoza. I don't think the quality matched the price of the food. Nice restaurant with nice employees, but I did not enjoy the food.

Nick S.

Yelp
Excellent and reasonably priced sushi restaurant. From the moment you walk into Kappo Miyabi you feel like a welcomed guest and know you are In for a great experience. The restaurant is very well managed. We were seated immediately by a friendly host. The back server took our drink order immediately. Our server explained the menu and was very prompt. We started with the tuna sashimi salad which had the perfect amount of spice and was extremely fresh. The robata grilled items were fantastic, scallop, sea bass and Shisito peppers. The managers checked in on us to ensure we enjoyed our meal. Overall excellent food and service. We will be back.

Yelp
At the time it was delicious but hampered by very small portions and $$$. Act1: We started with crispy agadashi mochi (yum) and sweet eggplant (extra yum). The A5 wagyu skewer was off the chart juicy and amazing as one would expect. We ordered two of them because each was just a single skewer with 3 pieces - super delicious luxury to the max @ $6 per bite - totally worth it. Act2: The sukiyaki with udon was meh, the yellowtail and tuna belly sashimi was fresh and mouth melty but again only a single piece of sushi - WTF. I have never in my life seen a single piece of sushi ! The crispy spicy tuna was probably the best I've ever had (and there were 4 pieces). They were very kind and comped us a matcha butter cake with ice cream. The waiter was super. For the same price as Katsuya I will take Katsuya due to portion size - but quality was similar! When I asked my wife if she would go back.... Unfortunately Update Food poisoning that night. Shrimp and sushi chunks all over the floor at 1am. Downgraded from 4 to 2 stars sadly

Abou K.

Yelp
Came here on a lunch date with one of my besties and they did not disappoint. The service was excellent. The food was above average. They have indoor and outdoor (both covered and open) seating. the ambience inside is very intimate. The sake was absolutely to die for and the servers were great i helping us decide which to get based on what we were eating.

Yelp
Kappo Miyabi offers a beautiful and peaceful sushi experience. They have these individual booth-like table enclosures and tablets on the tables that feature photos of the menu items. You can order from the tablet or wait for the server to take your order. All of the sushi items we ordered were extremely fresh and beautifully presented. It really melts in your mouth so you know the quality is good. They also offer omakase, charcoal grill skewers, hot pot, udon and hot stone rice pots. I would never have noticed this restaurant if my friends didn't bring me here and the staff was so kind to bring us a complimentary dessert because they recognized my friends as regulars. So sweet!

Yelp
Food: Spicy tuna was fresh meat and crunchy seaweed, but rice wasn't sticky. Gyoza meat was juicy and texture right one, the empanada was crispy bit friend over really hot oil - obvious for apperrance Service: The server was very polite, but he didn't offer any options or popular choices. Additionally, it took them a long time, over 25 minutes, to bring the gyoza. Ambiance: A nice place for a small group or a date, but not for big groups. The music is at the right volume for conversation, and the entrance is really cute, though they could use some decor advice. Price: The quality of food was average, and the experience under so overpriced. The experience, food, and ambiance don't match their price.

Maggie H.

Yelp
Prices are way too high for the quality. Good sushi, but won't be back. Service was slow at first. Then became attentive

Yelp
Winning spot! This is a great place for a catchup with friends, a group celebration, a business lunch, or any occasion where you want to eat deliciously! At each indoor table, they have digital ordering so you can either order there or order with the waiter. We chose the latter but the screens were helpful to see photos of all the food options. As we pursued the menu, they brought us complimentary miso soup for the table. The food is EXCELLENT and SUPER FRESH! Seriously, this is one of those places where when you have the sushi, you can tell it's good quality fish (which is a rare find in Santa Monica!). I ordered the Lunch Sushi Omakase menu for $25 which I was happy to find out that they have on weekends as well. It was plenty of food as it came with a salad, a hand roll, tofu, ramen soup, and vegetable tempura. We ordered a Baby Octopus Karagge appetizer and ended up taking home the appetizer leftovers (so much good food!) and was happy to continue the treat later that evening. They have a small patio, tables and booths for couples to groups, and a private group room. Great service where they check in on you (but not too much!).

Yelp
I came here for my birthday. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was immediately taken back to my Japan travels. We ordered the $35 lunch special, with varieties of sashimi, tofu, chicken, miso, soup, salad, eggplant, seaweed salad, salmon, rice etc... and ended our meal with the homemade chocolate mochi cake, dessert. It was absolutely delicious! The servers are friendly, attentive, and courteous. For those who are interested, lunch specials are always available on top of the regular menu. I highly recommend that you stop by this gem of a Sushi restaurant whenever you are in Santa Monica. It was the best place to celebrate my birthday and even a good place to frequent for lunch or dinner. Thank you Kappo Miyabi for a memorable Japanese cuisine dining experience!

Yelp
My family and I were visiting from Las Vegas and had come across this place when looking for a spot to eat for dinner. They have a very extensive menu. The price is definitely worth its quality. While my parents and I love sushi and seafood, my brother is allergic, but fortunately, they have a great variety of skewers and other menu items that accommodate for those allergic or looking for items other than sushi. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we were there, and the staff were all very helpful with our questions about the menu. They also checked in with us regularly. We sat in their indoor patio seating which was really nice to sit in while the sun was still out. There are also windows in this indoor patio that you can open or close to get some fresh air in. We got the sushi omakase, seared jumbo scallop with uni, truffle salmon carpaccio, oyster, miso eggplant, and the charcoal giant squid. We got a variety of skewers for my brother (shiitake mushroom, pork belly, pork short rib, lamb, and jidori chicken gizzard). The food came out relatively fast. My brother loved all of the skewers he had, and our absolute favorites were the seared jumbo scallops, the sushi omakase, and squid. We were really happy with our meal, and the management was so kind to even treat us to complimentary desserts upon us ordering such a large meal. If I were to come back, I would genuinely come back to buy the dessert myself. The house made matcha butter cake was warm and not too sweet and had a nice buttery and smooth texture. They top it off with small portions of strawberries, blueberries, and red bean, which each complement the matcha flavor well. We also had the matcha ice cream, which also had a really nice matcha flavor. We truly appreciated the time we had dining here. We will absolutely remember to come back again on our next trip!

Yelp
Beautiful interior, fresh catches, and friendly staff. Our group of 8 reserved a table for a Saturday night. We were given a private room, which was great! Drinks and food arrived in a timely manner. Everything was plated so pretty, I didn't want to mess it up. Sashimi was cut nicely and thiccc (yes, 3 C's), rolls were out of this world with the right ratio of rice and fish/veggies, our fried appetizers were crispy and delightful. The interior is beautifully decorated! Service was on point with no complains. I truly enjoyed dinner here!

Zoe B.

Yelp
Had a lunch date with husband! We loved the quiet ambiance, but most importantly the food was absolutely fantastic we will be back for more in the future!

Yelp
*** WARNING MUST READ *** Bone that was recklessly forgotten in a piece of sashimi and served to us. It was the first time for us to try Kappo Miyabi as we saw some decent Yelp reviews. We decided to give it a try. My wife, myself and 6 year old son wanted to have a relaxing and fun Friday night dinner. First off the service was terrible. It was Friday night and they didn't have enough servers. There were multiple times my wife and I tried to call a server or any wait staff and they just ignored us. We are not sure if they didn't hear us or just pretended not to hear us but that was extremely frustrating. The dishes were just okay. The best dish was the popcorn shrimp. We ordered the sashimi salad, pork belly skewers, chicken thigh skewers, salmon roe sushi, tuna rolls, and motsu mentaiko nabe (spicy cod roe & intestine hot pot). The motsu mentaiko nabe was underwhelming, especially when they charge $40 for it. They basically just cut huge chunks of mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and dumped it in the soup. The soup taste was overpowering and the spicy cod roe taste drowned everything else out. Here is the most shocking part of the evening. My son couldn't finish his sashimi salad, so my wife decided to eat the leftover salad and sashimi on his plate. Just as she bit into the sashimi and salad, she let out a scream because the sashimi still had a super sharp bone that wasn't removed and it pierced her tongue. It was so painful for her and left her tongue bleeding and throbbing. After taking a closer look the sharp bone in the sashimi was huge and extremely dangerous. Our son could have eaten that and potentially swallowed that huge bone. We were very angry and disappointed at this experience. The manager apologized and said that she had told the chef but it left a horrible experience for us and not to mention my wife had a bleeding and throbbing tongue even after we got home. They comped the meal which is a nice gesture however it doesn't make the pain go away. What a terrible way to spend our Friday night. Don't be fooled by the 4-5 star Yelp ratings here. This is an overpriced, sloppy and absolutely horrendous restaurant. If I could I would give them 0 stars but unfortunately 1 star is the lowest we can give them. Be warned! We are never going back and telling everyone to stay away. If you have small children be careful, if by any chance they swallow these sharp bones they will end up in the ER or worse.

Yelp
KAPPO miyabi is The MUST GO sushi place in Santa Monica. Its interier makes me feel I am in littel Japanese Garden. Of course sushi and sashimi is fresh and great in taste, I also recommend to try other dishes. These something that you have never seen in other sushi place Like sea bass yakidori and white fish plate, those were my favorite . Look for my favorite server Narae. Her service was fantastic, friendly I wil visit here again soooon

Jhoana P.

Yelp
This is such a cute sushi spot! My boyfriend and I were in town and we looked up best sushi spots in Santa Monica we found this through tiktok and the hype is real. The customer service is unmatched, friendly and quick! The food is so fresh also, with high quality. First time trying omakase and it was such a pleasure. Will be coming back whenever I'm in t

Jiaying W.

Yelp
The food are so good! The truffle salmon was recommended by the server, and I really like it. Server are nice too!

Khaing A.

Yelp
This review is for dinner only. We came here for the weekend dinner and were kind of disappointed due to the good reviews we saw on yelp. Albacore Handrol (2/5) : This was the most disappointing item of the night. The handroll was very dry, and albacore was just okay. It tasted like it was sitting out there for a while. It did not taste fresh. Grilled Squid (5/5) : Surprisingly, this was my favorite item of the night. Charcoal grilled squid was smoky and the mushroom and onions sweet added the texture complimenting the dish. The pepper also added the nice kick and I loved eating them together. If you are not into spicy taste, just don't eat the peppers. The sauce itself was not spicy. Kappo Miyabi seafood box (3/5): I enjoyed the uni and crab, but I expected a bit more since it was pretty expensive ($39). The fishes were diced into small pieces, so it was hard to taste the individual pieces. It felt more like leftover cuts rather than premium cuts. However, fresh seaweed was a nice touch. Overall, it was decent, but did not satisfy my fish cravings. Their menu is on their pricier side, but I understand that we are paying for the location. The interior was pretty standard. We got a seat in one of the rooms, but the seating was uncomfortable. That being said, if I am in the area again, I would like to try their lunch menu. The lunch menu seems to have more varieties for fresh fish with more reasonable prices.

Karen C.

Yelp
Amazing food amazing service ordered yakitori, sushi omakase, miso eggplant, and tempura.

Yunqing S.

Yelp
Love the food and services. The environment is chill and comfortable. Definitely recommend!

Annie B.

Yelp
Fish is so fresh here! They get the fish fresh everyday! Plus their sashimi pieces are huge!!! They don't skip out on the portions for sashimi. Really good service and decor/ambiance (reminded me of Japan). Good for celebrations/special occasions!

Rny G.

Yelp
I brought my gf and my mom to eat here. Upon entering the building you're greeted by a friendly staff. We were seated quickly without a reservation (granted it was early on a Friday evening). The decor of the building makes you feel that you've stepped out of Santa Monica in to a different place. The food is was great, Kevin recommended this yellow tail roll that was very tasty and did not let us down. The staff was friendly and were very attentive to our needs, constantly filling up our water cups and checking in on us. On top of the delicious food and great ambiance, the restroom was very clean. This was not my first time coming here and definitely will not be my last. Thank you to the staff for a great wonderful time.

Caroline M.

Yelp
Went here for my anniversary & had a very memorable experience. The ambiance seating was very pleasing & the service was exemplary. The menu choices had pages of wonderful choices, which made it hard for us to choose. The staff was very attentive & our server was very friendly to help explain certain menu items & offered suggestions. The photos below is what we ended up ordering & I must say that EVERYTHING did not disappoint. Everything was super delicious & the sushi pieces excellent! We also had appetizers (not pictured): the soft shelled crab & gyoza wagyu, both so very yummy as well! So if we're ever in town again, we would definitely come back to this wonderful gem in the heart of Santa Monica. Highly recommend this place to have some of the best entrées at Kappo Miyabi!!!

Ana Beatrice O.

Yelp
Best Authentic Japanese Restaurant in town! Every dish was amazing. The ambiance was very cozy and beautiful. Staff was very accommodating. And they are pet friendly too! Will always come back to this place. I'll recommend this place 100 times!!

Jess G.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect experience! Perfect service! We ordered small bites all throughout the dinner and it was completely sufficient. Beef skewers were tender and delicious. Pork sausage was divine! Loved the authentic ambiance!

Megan M.

Yelp
Went here on a whim and was so pleasantly surprised by how great this restaurant was! The quality was excellent and the service was also great. The yellowtail jalapeno and the other sushi/nigiri we had were the standouts. I probably wouldn't order the skewers again. They were fine, but a touch underseasoned. The Black Cod was incredible. A really lovely experience.

Roland C.

Yelp
Enjoyed dining here quite a bit. All of the pieces of fish were fresh and well prepared. The menu is pretty extensive without sacrificing quality, and has a lot of great Japanese cuisine options beyond just sushi. Also, the matcha butter cake is sooo good. Must order! The service was really good, too. We were seated promptly and everything came out quickly with the table being bussed as we finished each dish.

Sky L.

Yelp
I always have the sweetest interactions and the best food here. Expect to be welcomed so thoughtfully and receive some of the freshest food and the most thoughtful and seamless customer service. Truly. I always come for lunch and proceed to have the most pleasant day in the world afterwards because the food doesn't make me feel gross, the quality is so worth the price, and the interactions I have are always so wonderful. Every single person I have met that works here is so kind, the owner has done an incredible job at ensuring you will have an experience that leaves you wanting to return. There is both indoor and outdoor seating with so many different places to just sit and talk with friends and family. There are heat lamps and they have the perfect balance of maintaining respect of your privacy and still making sure their attention is on you. Honestly if you want to have a lovely day I'd come here.

Lingmu H.

Yelp
Avoid at all costs! They haven't updated their ordering tablet, so the subtotal price didn't match their menu price. Initially, they refused to address the price difference. After a 1-hour back-and-forth battle, they finally agreed to correct the price discrepancy caused by their own ordering device's display error. Additionally, the food was very mediocre yet super pricey. Totally not worth it.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Kappo Miyabi is a can't-go-wrong spot that has an extensive menu, an intimate and cozy setup, friendly service, and top-quality Japanese dishes. My wife and I ordered the spicy tuna roll, seafood chanpon udon, and crab stone pot. Everything was delicious. We loved all three dishes, but we especially loved the crab stone pot. The blend of flavors you get from the soft rice on top and crispy rice on the bottom, the melty and fresh baked blue crab, and the velvety smooth, sweet + sour, and rich sauce? Heavenly. Happy to say that the quality justifies the higher prices. We'll definitely come back on a future date night.

Yelp
I was in Santa Monica running errands with my sister and we were hungry. We initially chose ramein, but changed our mind as it was LA's food week and there was a lunch special. We changed our selection and it was a great choice as the food was outstanding! We chose the sushi / sashimi special and it was a great choice. The fish was oh so fresh and tasty. The tempura light and flaky, tofu and sauce so flavorful, everything was awesome - and to top it off, a great selection of Japanese beer, sake, and sochu. Service was as good as the food as our server was attentive and explained every dish. A great culinary experience for the palate! Definitely worth visiting again.

Judy Y.

Yelp
The restaurant has cute decorations that take you to Japan instantly. The service is amazing. The servers are very attentive and friendly. The food was yummy, too. My favorite was the aghadashi tofu dish. The uni was fresh, too.

Eunyoung K.

Yelp
I was told to give this place a visit when in Santa Monica so I went with my friends and we ended up having a great experience! We tried their sushi, beef sukiyaki along with some other appetizers and we were very pleased with the amount of options as well as their quality and taste. We also got some cold beer which served as a great complement to all their dishes :) We got some matcha cake and ice cream for dessert which both looked so pretty and had the great flavor to go along with it. Service was great too. Overall we were all very pleased with our experience, definitely will be coming back in the near future hehe

Yelp
Happened upon this location due to our original plans being closed for a private event. Cute Japanese decor, although I thought it was odd they were only seating people in one small corner of the restaurant (slow Thursday night maybe?). There was an iPad you can use to order from, but it was extremely slow. We decided to order from the waitress and settled on the $75 DineLA deal with a choice of non-alcoholic beverage or beer. The food was very authentic. Reminded me of all the little things I had in Japan like the deep fried skewers, the unagi bowl, and the sashimi. I didn't have a bad thing to say about the taste and flavors. It was also presented in a way that almost felt kaiseki-style. The staff were cordial and I had a pleasant experience here. I cannot speak for how the experience would be if I were to pay full price but hey, that's Santa Monica prices for ya'!

Yelp
We went there for Mother's Day. It was an utterly sad and unpleasant experience. We ordered Mother's Day Chirashi, Softshell crab roll, Agedadhi, Karaage, Tako Karaage, and a few yakitori skewers. I don't know what happened to this place. The food was just barely okay. Chirashi was definitely disappointing. Softshell crab was terrible. Some are too wet, some are too breaded, we ordered Sunagomo which we usually love to have but it was not cleaned well and it didn't taste right. What they are charging for the food they serve, I no longer would be back. And the server lady try to touch our food to on to another plate so she can take they plate away is not accepted, especially, she was touching other tables plates. (But thank you to Isabelle who were serving the water. She was very attentive. Thank you.) When this place was "Kappo Osen" it was an amazing experience all around; food, service, and ambiance. It is no longer authentic Japanese food here now.

Yelp
Came for the Honjitsu no Omakase and was a little disappointed in the dishes. While the presentation was so cute, many of the dishes were not great. One of the dishes were fish meatballs which were bad and the yakitori steak was quite chewy. For the price k would recommend just ordering what you want. On the other hand the lunch sushi omakase was excellent. All the fish was fresh and the crab handroll was my favorite. The service was good and the restaurant itself is your typical Japanese mid tier/low tier restaurant with fake cherry blossoms in the lobby. It was clean, but definitely gave more of a budget sushi restaurant vibe. BOTTOM LINE: Come here for the lunch specials, but splurging on the omakase isn't worth it in my mind.

Yelp
Solid sushi restaurant on the westside with good quality fish and thoughtfully presented dishes. I particularly appreciate the lunch menu items that usually come with a variety of small side dishes, which is only served on weekdays from 11:30 am to 3 pm. Lunch chirashi had very well-seasoned rice. Admittedly we have not had dinner here yet because the prices are quite steep outside the lunch menu (for example ~$6 for one piece of nigiri, premium chirashi at $75), but could be justifiable for the quality and freshness of the fish. I do want to try their signature uni boxes! Street parking is reasonably easy to find despite its proximity to downtown Santa Monica. Service and ambiance also solid.
