"Formerly Kappo Shunsui, this atmospheric restaurant now serves three multicourse omakase menus, typically consisting of appetisers, sashimi, sushi, hot dish, main course and dessert. The interior is theatrically lit to showcase the food; the wooden counter seats 20 diners who can chat and interact with the chefs. It goes without saying that all the ingredients are top notch; the knife work is razor sharp and the sushi perfectly hand-pressed." - Michelin Inspector

8 Little Known Michelin-Plate Restaurants In The MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2018

"It's not just about reserving a table if you want to sample its authentic omakase menu and its wonderful selection of over 80 different sakes, you also need to find this restaurant —- its secretive entrance has no sign, just a frosted glass door and a bell. The chef is serious about every detail — even the dashi is made daily with kombu from Shiretoko and mineral water. A luxury menu is available upon pre-order five days ahead." - Kenneth Goh

To me, their selling point is offering a variety of food in their omakase so I can have uni, Ikura rice and sashimi and wagyu all in 1 meal. (Yummy!) The food is plentiful (was so full), food quality is ok, relatively fresh but maybe not all dishes are consistently excellent so I do find I can get in more fresh food in Japan (not confined to omakase or kaiseki type). The ice cream made on the spot was ok (not exceptional but maybe it's just not to my taste). I think it's a good experience but I probably would try other places next time.

We used to frequently patronise their city gate branch but sadly it was closed. We went to the Hong Kong street branch and always love their good quality omakase dishes and great service and warm hospitality. Pricing is reasonable and serving pace is on point.

One of the most enjoyable Omakase dining experiences we’ve had in a while! Excellent hospitality and great service by Chef Akira-san. It was our first visit here to celebrate my wife’s birthday — looking forward to our next visit soon!

Came in for my birthday and it was a fantastic experience of Omakase. Staff was very professional from the start to finish. Restaurant is very clean and tidy, great atmosphere and vibe. Music choice is also very pleasant. At every point of our experience, we were always greeted with a smile and authentic Japanese etiquette. 5 star service and experience overall, would return again. Jason the lead chef and his staff truly made this an experience to remember.

Fantastic omakase experience. Every course is delicious, the presentation is beautiful, the chefs make it great to watch and the value is the best I've had in Singapore for this exceptional quality of food. This place will be on my list to visit whenever I'm in Singapore.

The restaurant is tugged at the corner of a multilevel shop house with an elevator. So it wasn’t obvious from the street. Hongkong street is laced with popular bars and restaurants. I loved the ambiance. It was small enough for the chef to entertain everyone around the sushi bar but lively enough for about 25 pax in the U shape configuration. The dinner was entertaining, filling, and very pleasant. You could have conversation with person next to you without straining. The fish was very fresh and the way the dishes stacked was just enjoyable for the palate. It is not too heavy or jelak even though they are plenty of fatty fish or items in general. The presentation was good. The service was so so but there was only 1 lady who took order, fixing drinks, clearing up table. It must have been hard work that no one deserves her smile. The Chef was helping as well, a good team player.

Second visit to Shunsui for omakase and always enjoyed the food quality, chef’s hospitality, innovation and service level. We chose the Kacho course which is $129++ per pax and of cos a good bottle of sake for pairing. Highly recommend if you are looking for good and value for $ omakase!

The place was comfortable with warm lighting. The food was amazing. The sashimi was one of the freshest I've ever had in Singapore. I've tried their sake and it was so easy to drink. The chef was very patient in explaining every dishes and how best to eat them. The only downside was that there was a group of customers celebrating birthday and it became too noisy after awhile. What supposed to be a quiet enjoyment of food became pasar malam.
