11 New Black-Owned Restaurants In Seattle

"Formerly a pop-up, Karachi Cowboys has set up shop permanently on Capitol Hill in the former Glinda space. They mash up Texas flavors with Pakistani/Indian staples—like aloo sliders with tamarind BBQ sauce—alongside natural wine. It’s the perfect spot to catch up with a friend over a glass or two of pèt-nat and some snacks, like the aforementioned sliders, spicy hummus with papadum dippers, and curry popcorn. Our favorite’s the Molten Gold, a salty mixture of crunchy nuts and treats that we wish was sold in Costco-size sacks." - aimee rizzo

Seattle's Best Pop-Ups Of 2020

"Karachi Cowboys is a Pakistani soul food operation that serves things like tasty chana masala, dal curry, and kofta—but where they truly excel is in the snack department. And if 2020 taught us anything, it’s that snacks are important. From tangy labneh and perfectly-seasoned hummus topped with an herby green sauce to spicy pickled cauliflower and chewy blistered naan, mix-and-matching a meal made of little appetizers is the best way to do Karachi Cowboys. Whatever you do, don’t miss the decadent milk chai (the best drink we’ve consumed this year) or their incredible 50/50 mix filled with salty crunchy nibbles, curried nuts, golden raisins, and frosted flakes." - carlo mantuano, aimee rizzo

Best Indian and South Asian Restaurants in Seattle - Eater Seattle

"This Indo-Pakistani-Texan food pop-up landed a brick-and-mortar location in Capitol Hill this summer. Chef Nasir Zubair and his wife Nicole Greenwald have filled out the dinner menu with offerings like aloo sliders, chana masala, and kheema — halal ground beef simmered with spices and sweet green peas. The menu is inspired by Zubair’s Pakistani and African American ancestry and his upbringing in Texas. Follow Karachi Cowboys’ Instagram account for the most current specials." - Leonardo David Raymundo, Maggy Lehmicke, Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Interesting food for those who haven’t tried Pakistani food or not much of it. I’ve had a couple times from a friends house and glad to see a spot in seattle. The food was good, wish I dined instead but we arrived late. My favorite was the sliders! Nice sauce that had lots of flavor. The two rice dishes were on par with each other, the yellow one being more flavorful aftertaste while the red onion one had a stronger initial hit.

Delicious! I've only tried Indian food before, but it's quite similar. It's not as spicy as the street food I'm used to (which is good) but the savory flavors were all there and well done. The aloo sliders were my favorite, followed by the dal rice, followed by the pickle which could have been more intense with the mustard. The prices are high for the portions, but I think it's justified given the location and atmosphere. Lemonade and rooh afza were great additions to the menu for the summer heat.

This was my first time getting to try Nasir’s food at his actual restaurant (rather than at his B-Side pop-ups years ago) and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend and I got the hummus plate, aloo sliders, and kheema, and each dish was flavorful, well-portioned, and perfect as wintertime comfort food. Not only was the meal excellent, but the service was attentive and wine options were well matched with our food. This might honestly be my new favorite restaurant in Seattle.

Delicious. Portion sizes are on the smaller side but the food is so flavorful. Ordered a combo plate and the sliders. Shared with another person and we left full. Fabulous service.

Way to spicy for me. Great food and a unique combination of dishes. The deserts were really good.

I was born and raised in Karachi, and am native to the city. I had heard raving reviews about this place, and was recommended by non-karachiites (yes that’s a word) so I decided to try it out. I really crave the true Karachi food! Firstly, let me clarify that this is not soul food for Karachi. Karachi soul food is bun kabab, biryani, chaat, kababs etc. We ordered the Aloo sliders, KC combo, and lemon soda. The aloo sliders were the only thing that was good - tho very small portions for the price. It would have benefited from some green chutney - maybe from spice waala. The lemon soda had the black salt zing, which was good. The KC combo has the kheema, daal, and chana with rice. Only the daal was nice, and the rest was below average. I couldn’t eat it. I’m not sure I’ll be going back to this place just for the daal. If u want to try more authentic food, I’d highly recommend Guilt Trip for fusion or Lari Adda for true Pakistani street food - that is if Seattleites dare cross I-90 to try something more authentic. And maybe ask someone local to the region for true soul food.

One of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! Phenomenal food, exceptional service, and such a lovely atmosphere. I order three entrees every time because I can’t ever choose one. And the snacks! Unreal! And the chocolate Marsala mousse! Such a gem, and a mandatory stop in Capitol Hill!
