Unleash Your Inner Karen at a Hollywood Pop-Up This March - Eater LA

"Karen’s Diner opens in March at Hollywood’s Sumac Mediterranean Cuisine and organizers encourage diners to “unleash your inner Karen.” The appeal of “great burgers and rude service” is a bit puzzling, as Karen’s Diner is designed to draw and encourage entitled customers along with staff who will also bring a bad attitude. Karen’s Diner is a roving pop-up with roots in Australia and more recently in St. Louis. Event organizers are selling tickets for $40 which comes with a burger, fries, and soda with a side of the “Karen” experience plus games and snippy waitstaff." - Mona Holmes

I thought the rude service would be a fun novelty, but it felt very forced and generic. Food quality was less than good and the prices are steep. Probably won't be coming back.

This place was entertaining for a bit, but their humor relies too much on yelling obscenities than actually being rude or making fun of your family members. I went here with my kids (10 and 12) and parents (in their 70s). I would not take any kids younger than that, and even for the 10+ crowd, make sure they are acclimated to the F-word (they will hear that a LOT here). I did like the way they embarrassed birthday people in front of the entire restaurant. They made that fun. The food was good, but overpriced. It came out to roughly $25/person for burgers and fries, which is on the high end for St Louis area dining. The location is in the old Lemmons building, and they still have a lot of that signage. But they completely redid the interior. It looks really good compared to the bar that it used to be. Overall, this was a fun experience, but not one I am going to be a regular at.

I went for my birthday and had the time of my life! The food was meh, but the customer service was what I came for and they did not disappoint.

the funniest thing ever! i loved my experience so much. from the time i walked in to the time i walked out of the diner. the workers were amazingggggg!! the only downfall to my experience was that our food took more than a hour to come but they later explained that there was a problem in the kitchen… but i didn’t mind because the workers kept me laughing.

Quick Summary: I definitely recommend this for the experience. Service is atrocious (which in this case makes is exceptional) and makes for a very fun experience. Food and drinks are low quality and certainly overpriced. Also, if you’re a protective parent, it’s not child friendly. They swear, throw up the middle finger, and will take jabs at you. It’s not just rude staff. It’s an interactive experience. Pros: - the service. Yes, the service gets a 5/5. How often do you get exactly the service you bargained for? All of the servers have unique personalities. Some are just super annoyed and impatient, some are dismissive, some are more frustrated. I genuinely can recall most, if not all, of the servers in that restaurant. They all interacted with us. - there is a lot of interactivity. From being called on stage, to being called out for not being a romantic enough partner. It’s all good fun. I can’t imagine going here weekly but definitely glad I came with my partner. - they have a Karen wig. What more can I say? Cons: - the food quality. Look, bad service is a fun and amusing, no doubt. But this is a restaurant first and foremost. The quality of the food and drinks was very poor. The cheese curds came without marinara and were mediocre on their own, the burgers were frankly dry and unimaginative, the drinks were weak and pretty mediocre. - the price is very high. The quality does not match the price at all. $17 for a burger that tastes worse than a Big Mac is not great.

Not worth the time. Maybe because it was opening night but we waited so long to get water, then a 30 min wait for very expensive drinks(could not taste any alcohol) and about 1 and 1/2 hrs to get two 6 piece wings (we ordered 3) and 2 Karen burgers for them to be completely raw in the middle. The fries were good I heard. The serving and bar staff were nice and seemed genuinely apologetic. The food was not anything to write home about. I love the smart mouth concept but better execution and organization from management would go a long way.

We went last night for our first time, and it was pretty cool. The host was phenomenal, but our server Sunshine was not rude to us which was a disappointment. Not to mention she took forever getting us drinks. Also the music was super loud, so it was difficult hearing my group at the table. The rest of the staff played their role well. We did wait an hour for our food, but it tasted fine. Not a place I would go regularly, but a neat experience.
