The Best Kurdish, Kashmiri, Uyghur, and Basque Restaurants in London | Eater London

"Lias Khan Din’s inconspicuous Kashmiri takeaway on Ridley Road has been open since 1995. While the surrounding area has changed rapidly, Din’s menu and his head chef have been constants over the years. Go early when the market is creaking to life, for a spiriting breakfast of paratha stuffed with spicy egg and onion omelette or for a helping of nourishing, sweet dal. At lunch, biryani, saag, dal and balti curries wait in a dozen silver trays to be scooped out with long spoons and piled generously onto rice. Rotating specials include matar paneer (pea and paneer curry) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and lamb shank on Saturdays, which keep the canteen both interesting and reliable." - Hester van Hensbergen

This place is so good! Everything is from £5-£7 and the portions are good. Big variety as well and food comes quick cos it’s just counter service. There’s one seat by it and if you want they’ll heat it up for you there and then. I had delicious chicken curry and pilau rice for only £6

I first noticed this place when someone next door was eating a wrap that looked absolutely delicious, so I had to check it out. We ordered the chicken curry and chickpea dhal wraps, and they did not disappoint. Super fresh, perfectly spiced, and packed with flavour. Definitely recommend as a go-to spot for a quick, satisfying bite.

One of my favourite places to get food in East ! Really really good value, so tasty and friendly service. I always get paratha veg roll with two curries, it’s on £3.50 and fills me up for hours! Love Kashmir kebabish :))) shukriya !⭐️

Excellent briyani and curries – there is a different featured curry each day – with a good level of spiciness. It was late, but the proprietor was friendly and accommodating, and made some excellent recommendations for dinner take-out.

Fantastic food. Best value in the area with a lot of veg options for the vegans. Service always with a smile. Highly recommend

Very friendly staffs and speedy working efficiency. Definitely the most tasty samosas ever. The best one is their lamb samosa and vegan one. Rich flavors with perfect spice combination. Tried their spinach, lamb curry, chicken curry, veggie and the lentil dishes. All are good but may be too greasy and salty sometimes so not good for people with digestive problems. Wrap is simply good as samosas. Would like to have their samosas every weeks and other heavier dishes once a month.

Everything was delicious. Bought samosas, fried fish, chicken wings, lamb biryani and sauces. So cheap as well. Lovely people who work there

BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN ORDERING!!!!!!!! Orig rev below.. Unsure if a new tactic, but my carer picked up a large shashlik and also a chicken on bone curry. They told him rice no extra charge. Then when I open my food it's a container with half rice and half curry!!!!!! How is that free rice?! It's a scam to give me half the curries I paid for with rice that costs very little. I don't appreciate shenanigans and lies and being ripped off. If it's half rice should cost less and if my carer orders curries then bloody well give him curries and not trick him so that my money is essentially stolen from me. I've been a regular customer for a year. I don't deserve to be conned. I have reduced from 5 stars to 2. the food here is generally good but... GOOD - portion sizes excellent so good value. The large chicken tikka shashlik is 9 quid and had over 35 pieces of chicken! So, value is there and was banging, lovely, tasty, moist. I ordered again and was the same. Highly recommended. The jalfrezi they make on Fridays is a great curry. Full of perfectly cooked chicken and nicely complemented by enough peppers, chillies and onion and lovely sauce. Its just a very well made and tasty curry and not too fiery as some jalfrezis can be. Still hot, but not uncomfortably so that you are lunging for water. I like I can get heat and taste without overly suffering as these guys judge it well and you can always eat the extra chillies and add hot sauce if you like it extra hot. NOT BAD, BUT GOOD TO KNOW - the okra and potato dish was beautiful as these guys also cook veg properly seemingly every time. Soft and lovely texture so fully cooked, but perfect firmness too so no mushiness. I found this dish needed a good splash of soy sauce or some salt. I always eat at home, so adding either is of no concern to me at all and, if anything, I think that under seasoning food is actually a good thing. We all probably consume too much sodium, so for those who prefer less salt than the average person, it means they can enjoy too. It's pretty damn easy to add. Rather tricky to remove. BAD - this is where I find myself scratching my head. Ordered regular daily chicken curry as was a Tuesday, so no jalfrezi and I also want to work my way through the menu. The regular chicken curry was still full of chicken and I had high hopes. Sadly, for me, it seemed much thinner, basic, overly garlicky and rather average, at best. How a place that produces what I have found to be very good food, both meat and veggie, with well balanced and tasty marinades and sauces etc can produce a curry that would disappoin me if I made it, makes no sense. Even if they used the basic jalfrezi as a starting point and did something different to create a very different result, even if with less chicken and veg, they would be onto a winner I reckon. It's not even something that I find annoying, as regular Friday treats are probably enough and means I don't give these guys silly amounts of my money. I think this place is 4 stars ish, but with 5 stars and extra merit on Fridays. I'm not wealthy so kind of hoping they don't sort this issue out...
