Kasteel Elsloo

"Dining in a castle makes for a special experience. The surrounding natural beauty and centuries-old arcades beneath which guests take their seats cannot fail to impress. This fabulous setting inspires the chef to work with respect for the region, the seasons and sustainability. French and Mediterranean flavours dominate the appealingly updated menu, which now features occasionally innovative dishes. Wine lovers will delight in the enticing selection of wines sold by the glass." - Michelin Inspector

My stay at Kasteel Elsloo was truly enjoyable. The room had a cozy, classic feel with lovely views of the garden. Dinner was a highlight—each dish was thoughtfully prepared, blending local flavors with a touch of elegance. The wine selection was excellent, perfectly paired with the meal. The kind and attentive waiters added a warm touch, making the dining experience even more special. It was a charming mix of history, good food, and wonderful service.

We only ate at the restaurant. (So not the hotel) The food was really delicious. The service was also very friendly and good. We already planned on going back!

We used this hotel for a single overnight stay in the area. The positive aspect is that this is an attractive hotel in a lovely location. Our room (the mill suite) was very nice and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have experienced.||However we got off to a poor start because the signposting to, and within, the hotel were very poor. After finally finding the entrance to the hotel we then had a problem finding our room, as every other room except ours appeared to be signposted. Probably our fault for not paying sufficient attention to the instructions of the receptionist, but surely one of the main guest rooms in the hotel should be properly signposted? The absence of a lift is to be expected in an old building, but the staircase up to the room is very narrow, and anybody with more than a small overnight case will struggle - for more than €200 a night for the room a hotel should at least offer help with your luggage up narrow stairs. Poor weather meant we couldn't take full advantage of the attractive surrounding grounds, and this was compounded by the very poor quality of the TV in our room - more a technical problem with our TV itself I think rather than general TV reception in the hotel. This was reported to the hotel reception for something to be looked at later rather than during our short stay. Whilst the receptionist was not positively unhelpful, she did not appear to be willing to accept that there might be some areas where the hotel might not be perfect.||Unfortunately our evening meal in the restaurant, which presented itself as a place for fine dining, proved to be very disappointing. I had the tournedos, which arrived rare rather than medium as I requested. It was of good quality so I was happy to take it as it was. As the waiter had informed us that the meat dishes were accompanied by "potatoes and vegetables" I had not ordered any side dishes. Fortunately my wife had ordered a side dish of chips (french fries) to go with her veal loin, otherwise we would have remained hungry. The "potatoes and vegetables" were what I can only describe as a small mess of uninspired and poor tasting nouvelle cuisine. Very disappointing even though the quality of the meats was very good.

We've visited the Kasteel Elsloo multiple times, but this was our first visit to the restaurant. The food was seasonal and delicious. The service exceptional.

My partner and I were there 17/18 November 2020 to celebrate my 60th birthday and our 20 year anniversary .||We arrived to a warm greeting and a fast checkin. We were shown to our room and it was bright and comfortable and very clean, with a small seating area over looking the terrace. Each night we dined in the restaurant and the food was amazing, the service 5 star and the care and attention was perfect. The entire stay was beyond perfect. The staff are amazing, food is excellent and the location, perfect. ||A fantastic pace for a getaway.

This is my fourth time staying here and I must say rooms are good and well-priced. WiFi is free but very iffy if you are doing work. It’s ok for surfing and such. Beds are comfortable but the chairs in the rooms are not very comfy. Bathroom small but efficient and fresh linens daily. Plenty of on-site parking and also nice restaurant. Breakfast offerings are a bit spartan but there are bakeries nearby and a few restaurants for Dutch sandwiches. The one here is more high end with crafted meals and I suggest at least trying it. Good appertifs, wine and beer selection and great coffee. No lift so be careful if you have large heavy bags. All rooms require climbing one or two floors by narrow stairwells. ||Very scenic area for walking also and very friendly staff as always. Enjoy your stay and relax at this nice romantic hotel in a castle.

We recently stayed here for an anniversary and took a comfort plus room. It was comfortable, with good beds. However, the room was very warm and there is no air conditioning. The bathroom also does not provide bath mats to stop you slipping as you get out of the bath, and my husband nearly had an accident. On the bright side, there are some lovely walks in the old forest that start right in the hotel grounds.||We ate in the restaurant both nights we were there and the food was good. The service was friendly, however we had to wait about 40 minutes in between each course, we even had to wait 40 minutes for a club sandwich at lunch time. It wasn’t very busy so I am at a loss to know why they do this. I always find it frustraties when a bottle of wine, shared between two doesn’t last to the main course!||I wouldn’t hurry back.
