"Katana used to be one of those places someone would bring you when they said, “I know a spot.” These days, the fun (and tiny) floating sushi restaurant seems to be everyone’s “I know a spot.” So there’s almost always a long wait. But we still believe Katana is worth it, especially because you can kill time at the bar next door. Once you get a text that your seat is ready, you can relax and grab plates of sushi that float through the dining room on a little stream. Different color plates cost different amounts, starting at about $1.50 each. "A night at a Katana has two steps, so save this one for someone you’re feeling good about. There’s almost always a wait. Put your name down on the list and kill time by having a beer at Bob’s, a casual bar directly next door. Before you know it, your pocket will buzz and your seats at the dark sushi boat spot will be ready. This is one of those restaurants where you grab plates of nigiri as it floats by down a stream. "Katana is a blast, even if it can be a restaurant that requires patience. There is almost always (especially on weekends) a long wait to eat here because the restaurant is small and it’s a sushi boat experience, in which you slowly graze on passing nigiri and sashimi while sipping sake. Also, they don’t take reservations. But the novelty of floating sushi boats isn’t what makes Katana great. It’s because the sushi floating by on those boats is actually good—and you can eat a decent amount of it without blowing through your annual restaurant budget. "Katana is a North Beach classic, and one of the very few restaurants with floating sushi boats in Miami. It’s small in here—just a squiggly circle of counter seating—and there is almost always a wait. But being a solo diner will work to your advantage, and your wait will probably be much less severe than the various couples and small groups around you. When you do get a seat, prepare to spend the meal sipping sake and plucking nigiri from passing plates.
