The 15 Best West African Restaurants In London

"Entering Kate’s Cafe in Plaistow immediately feels like you’ve walked into an aunty’s or family friend’s dining room where everyone knows each other. The space does away with unnecessary decor and keeps it simple. Which is more reason why it just feels like popping over to a familiar kitchen and makes it perfect for a group catch-up. The dishes are a deep dive into Ghanaian cuisine. Grilled fish is served with swallows like omo tuo, pounded yam, banku, and kenkey. Make sure Ghanaian stews like the incredibly rich, peanut-based nkatenkwan and abenkwan are on your table, plus rich, tomato-based red red. All bites come with plantain or yam, and if you can’t choose, get both." - riaz phillips

Oh my goodness where do I start! I was heading to Stagecoach and decided to stop in Oak Creek for lunch. I chose Kate's Cafe to dine at, and boy did I ever find a hidden gem. This little cafe in Oake Creek has the goods. They bake all of their bread and pastries fresh in house and my Turkey Avocado sandwich I had was probably the best Turkey Avocado sandwich ive ever had. The bread was tender and moist. The ingredients were very fresh and high quality and the flavors just melt in your mouth. I also had a slice of their bee sting Pie and wow that pie was full of wonderful flavors and textures. It had the softest pie crust ive had and it was a privilege to eat. Lets talk price. My sandwich was $11 , the pie ws $4, and my drink was $3 all before tax. All together great price for the quality of food prepared. When I came there was only 1 person working so it took some time to get my food, but its well worth the wait. If you are driving through Oak Creek stop by Kate's Cafe.

Ditto those who say it ain't what it used to be. Got screamed at for asking the price of the drip coffee ($4+) because it wasn't posted anywhere. Was told to go to the gas station for asking how much the coffee cost...... how dare I want to know the price? 'Everyone knows what I charge". So people passing through are just expected to know your prices and if they don't you think they deserve verbal abuse? I was sick to my stomach from being screamed at for asking how much the coffee cost that I left the paid for food and coffee on the counter and left. So she got my money and ruined my day. This used to be such a treasure of a place.. sad to see it deteriorate so profoundly. ** Thank you for replying. This was a while ago. Just wishing I could go today. And the lady was not new. .

Fresh baked croissant breakfast sandwich is one of the best I’ve ever had. They make a fresh batch every morning and when they’re gone they’re gone so you know they’re always fresh. Friendly staff and outdoor/indoor seating. When I visit oak creek I always start my day out with a Kates cafe breakfast sandwich.

Kate's Cafe was recently bought by the daughter and is now just "The Cafe". Highly suggest! If you want a hearty sandwich on home made bread, any of the options on the menu will suit you. Special love for the herb-filled French dip broth (yes, I drank it like soup).

Great place to spot for a quick bit to eat. We stumbled across this as we got lost on the way from Steamboat to Denver but didn’t regret the detour one bit. Bud and Brittany were so sweet and we talked to them for a while. They make everything fresh every morning at 4am and therefore the baked goods were incredible. The coconut macaroons were awesome and the fresh baked breads were wonderful (I loved my garlic Parmesan bread and my friend described the sourdough as mind-altering). We had egg sandwiches which were great and the vibe in here is cozy and authentic. Definitely would recommend for a stop for something unique and freshly home-made.
