"Katsu Burger, the local chainlet with a reputation for massive burgers with deep-fried patties and Japanese-inspired flavors, opened a new location in Federal Way. Katsu Burger was born in Georgetown and now has restaurants in Ballard, Capitol Hill, Lynnwood, and Bellevue. This marks the chain’s sixth location. The Federal Way addition has a menu similar to the one fans have become accustomed to, with burger patties that are breaded and deep-fried in the katsu method popular in Japan and Hawaii. Though katsu traditionally involves chicken, Katsu Burger takes the practice to new heights by dropping every patty into the deep fryer. Status: Certified open." - Megan Hill

I rolled into Katsu Burger in Federal Way like a Seattle snob craving something different—and I was not disappointed. The miso-glazed Tofu Burger—a crisp, eggless tempura patty drizzled in honey-miso mustard—was surprisingly noble, messy in that “I-want-more” way . My sidekick, the Samurai Select, delivered a flavor tag‑team: bacon and pineapple tangoing with wasabi‑mayo and tangy tonkatsu sauce—sweet, bracing, maybe too clever, but it works . The joint’s vibe leans casual—plastic trays, anime posters elbowing each other on the walls—and the staff greeted me like I’d just spotted a unicorn in Snohomish. Service was breezy and chipper, fries still hot and Instagram-ready. Tables and bathroom were dirty and sticky which my only complaint. Quirky, greasy, and weirdly charming—like Seattle, but with a tempura twist.

Google
I got takeout of the Samurai Select with Pork Katsu, and a side of nori fries. The burger is pretty big, the katsu is delicious. The wasabi sauce is strong. I was hoping the burger would be sweeter because of the pineapple, but it wasn't. The fries was decent but nothing special. A good value for the price if you are craving a burger with an Asian twist.

Google
Walked in and asked if they had a food challenge, they directed me to the "Mt.Fuji" and it was a massive burger. Every bite was amazing. I wish I could have gotten a t-shirt for eating it all but that was wishful thinking. Sadly I'm so far away from the location because I would definitely stop in as a regular. Thank you.

Google
Not your typical burger, but that’s the best part of this place! The ohayou burger was delicious, the egg was an excellent touch. Fries were a bit bland in my opinion, but their unique dipping sauces helped.

Franklin

Google
Warning: these are not typical burgers, don't expect an Innout burger with lettuce and cheese. I didnt think about it before going (not sure how i missed it by the name katsu) but they're Asian cuisine inspired burgers. Burgers were no tire man level but were definitely good. Definitely recommend a try.

Google
Incredible burgers, husband enjoyed it. We visit Japan every year and he craved for pork cutlets on a soft bread so we ended up eating here. Potato croquette and fries is really good too. Delicious wide variety of sauces. They whip up food super fast too so not much wait time. I wish the ambiance is a little more jolly, it's kinda dreary.

Google
Had the Kyoto burger and it was delicious. Fries with 12 spices were great too. Definitely would love to go back and try more.

Google
My experience at Katsu Burger was super good. The staffs were very friendly and accommodating. They recommended us with their croquettes which were so good!! The place is so spacious and located at a big shopping plaza as well which is a big plus. Overall we did have a good time here!!! 10/10 highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Five stars for consistency and deliciousness. We come here at least twice a month for a beef Wabi Wasabi and 12 spice fries. The burgers are perfectly breaded with you guessed it Katsu. So crispy and makes your meat of choice super moist even when you order it well done which we do for beef. The portions are big enough that my wife and I split a burger combo with fries and a drink. There are other combo options to add fries and coleslaw and or banzai bites. Always busy but they get you in and out with quality food every time.

Yelp
Found through Yelp. Upon entering you will see an anime vibe and K Pop music. I enjoyed the Tokyo Classic. Burger was served in a red basket tray with fries. Very 50's dinner feel. The burger was packed full of flavor and fries hit the spot. Service was friendly and quick. Enjoyed my visit. Thank you Katsu Burger.

Yelp
Elevated fast food, nice twist on an American classic meal. I got the teriyaki chicken sandwich and it was quite tasty and filling. I also sumo-sized it: loved the 12 spice fries with the wasabi mayo, the wasabi coleslaw was good, and I didn't need the bonsai bites (decent, but nothing special and very filling). Atmosphere is a little nicer than typical fast food joints and the service was pleasant.

Katie N.

Yelp
Came in here for dinner. The cashier was super friendly and nice. The interior was clean. They play great music. The food was delicious, with the right amount of crisp, sauce and ingredients. We ordered the Ninja and the Ohayou Gozaimasu. Both were delicious. Fries were great and you get tm4 choices on how you'd like your fries. They also have a variety of dipping sauce. Overall, great experience.

Yelp
Heard a lot of good about this restaurant. However, our food was pretty bland and couldn't really taste the meat of the burger. Fries were generic and overly cooked (similar to In n Out IMO). Inside floor was very sticky. Service was fine.

Anthony H.

Yelp
Staff is friendly. Food is good. The prices are fair. The place is always clean. What's not to like!?!

Jill E.

Yelp
We went with high hopes given the five star reviews from Yelpers but sadly we were disappointed. The place is nice and clean and was totally empty when we went in. There were a few folks that came in for to go orders but not many so perhaps the quality has gone down since some of the reviews were posted. I opted for the teriyaki chicken burger. It came on a nice bun which I ended up taking off because it was just too much bread, pickles, onion, tomato, shredded cabbage and sauce of which there wasn't enough. All I could taste was the deep fried breading. My husband had the Tokyo Classic which is said was ok but again not enough sauce to cut through the breading. We upgraded and had fries with our meal which were supposed to be sea salt but there was no taste of salt at all. Hubs had the seasonal milkshake which was cookies and cream. I tasted it and thought it decent. Super thick so you really needed a spoon to eat instead of drink it. Will we go back, probably not.

Yelp
I really love this place. Awesome ambiance with anime focused themes, and I love the burger names pertaining to Japanese pop culture, like the Godzilla burger. They have decent service times, but the food is very good and so worth it even if I have to wait (I usually order take out). The people working there have always been so nice. Definitely a regular go to!

Julie N.

Yelp
Amazing quality burgers!!! My family also loves all the side options! Nori fries, and the chicken bites are a must - try them with all the sauces, so good! Friendly service and clean space to dine in. This is our go-to local burger restaurant.

Monica D.

Yelp
I didn't have very high expectations but, YIKES! What does anyone like about this place except the bottled tea? It smells of old grease from the fryer. Although friendly service is slow. The deep fried burgers are overcooked and greasy! The tables were not wiped down and some of the booths have torn/shredded vinyl seats. I wouldn't ever go back.

Mike L.

Yelp
The menu enticed me and it offered a lot of different flavors. I came during lunch and noticed there were only about 2-3 employees working. Although it looked like there wasn't much staff, food got delivered quickly and staff were friendly. I got the curry katsu burger. I expected it to have curry sauce but it was curry powder. The burger was pretty good with all the flavors and came with cabbage, tomato, pickle, and red onion as standard toppings. Overall good but nothing special. I also got curry fries and they were just okay as well.

Pocky P.

Yelp
Very good food. Fries was with the 12 spices. Spicy and the fries are shoe string fries so crisp and yum! Got the Godzilla attack and the Mushroom something it was so so gooood! Fresh and cooked to order but 14$ just for the burger.

Sarah S.

Yelp
We came in on Sunday afternoon. It was busy! But we were able to place our order and choose our seats within 2 minutes. We ordered a Godzilla Burger each. I had mine without cheese but with everything else. This burger was spicy, flaky and fantastic. It was stacked so high! This burger was packed with flavor and texture. 12 Spice fries-these are in standard fry shape, but the spice blend on them was divine. They were actually spicy on their own, but we enjoyed them more with their nori ranch and curry mayo. Their artwork and decorations were so cool too! The aesthetic of the restaurant was unique and fun. The feedback I have/changes I would make: There were a lot of tables that were not clean or still had dishes on them. I think that Katsu Burger could use some signage that explicitly requests the patrons bus their own tables, because it increases the likelihood people will do so. We are always happy to bus our own and we did, but many people didn't. There was an out of date COVID log at the front of cashier. I think it's really great to have this in order to track potential exposures! But with that being said, exposures from September 2022 won't be relevant in January going on February 2023. I think with logs like these, making sure that they are regularly changed is good. With these things being said, they get 5 stars because we only saw two people running Katsu burger at this time. They did the right thing and prioritized the quality of the food. We loved our food and will be coming back. They nailed the flavor and the quality of the food despite being understaffed-I will take slower and exceptional service over rushed and incomplete any day. Shoutout to the location as well: you can do Trader Joe's, Mudbay, TJ Maxx, and Home Goods amongst others with the same (free!) parking spot.

Aaron E.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Great experience. Customer service was patient, friendly, and very helpful. The place is chill, laid back. While I waited for my order, I was watching College Basketball.

Kar Ann D.

Yelp
I gotta start taking pics before i eat. The picture arent doing it justice. Now i know why Micheal Symon liked it, cause it sounds weird. Had a Tokyo, yummy. In the mood for something new, you wont be disappointed

Aileen C.

Yelp
My daughter treated me the Katsu burger. This was my first try. It's ok, not for me. It was heavy for me and ended up getting full by half way. It got saltier the more I ate it. My daughter liked though. It's for some of us, unfortunately not for me. The fries were good, don't eat too much fries. I'll have to try other sandwiches.

Alice S.

Yelp
Great katsu burgers!! I had chicken katsu with mushrooms & it was really tasty. The burgers are huge & flavorful! I took the other half of my burger home. Also had the 12 spice fries which were quite good. The sesame shake was a nice change of pace and I enjoyed it. The location we went to was in an industrial area and wasn't very busy. We opted to eat in and there was lots of open seating, so it worked out perfectly for our party of 5.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
So flavorful. Everything pictured was straight from the grill etc. so fresh, flavorful and different. Loved it. Tried Tokyo classic and the curry fries which were amazing

Blaine Y.

Yelp
Food was way over cooked and could not eat it. The fries were cold and inedible. Not a fan of this place.

May D.

Yelp
I love katsu burger! It's our go-to burger place. Their servings are always plenty. Their burger are huge and with lots of ingredients/toppings. Our go-to orders are the ninja deluxe and godzilla attack. We also always get the 12 spice fries with miso curry dipping, it's so good and highly recommended. We haven't dine-in there yet but the restaurant has plenty of seatings.

Kurt A.

Yelp
Great tasting burger and fries. Also try the shakes. Service was fast and friendly they have pretty diverse menu.

Alden C.

Yelp
I've been to the Katsu Burger in Seattle in Capitol Hill but that was several years ago. Since then one has opened up in Federal Way and I just went here recently. My first Katsu experience I felt that the burgers were large but this time around I thought they were a much more reasonable size. I got their Tokyo Classic Burger and really liked it a lot. The breading on the burger was so good and all of the ingredients so very fresh. Steve and I also split an order of fries and dipped it in a Wasabi sauce. Very refreshing with how the food wasn't very greasey at all. Steve had a good pork burger and it too was pretty impressive. Also scored a t shirt which I don't think was available the first time I went so that was an additional plus! Love the idea of going back to try their other burger options

Jessica S.

Yelp
My "manager" mentioned about eating at this place which allowed me to put this chain store on my radar. Weirdly enough, my friend suggested this place when I met up with him! The location that we went to is next to Mud Bay pet supply store in the SeaTac Village Center at Federal Way. There's a parking lot with ample parking that won't ever be a problem. The interior is cute with cartoons and Japanese anime. I got the Wabi Wasabi burger with beef katsu and seasoned fries with curry dipping sauce (whaaat!). The burger was relatively big and the concept was super interesting. I was used to the tonkatsu sandwiches from Japan that seeing this concept into a burger form was pretty cool. The beef katsu was tender and crispy. Delicious with the wasabi aioli which was a little overwhelming as the wasabi kept making my nose have that weird itchy feeling. The fries with the curry dipping sauce, though, omg. REALLY good. Can't believe they made a curry dipping sauce, GENIUS. I also got the kinako black sesame milkshake which was alright. I didn't expect the black sesame to be actual sesame for some reason. Assumed it would be the powder version to mix with the milkshake. Probably won't find anywhere else, so props to originality! This chain restaurant is very original. Having the concept similar to the Japanese tonkatsu sandwiches into burgers with unique sauces and milkshake flavors is genius. Definitely a place to try!

Crystal H.

Yelp
I think I just don't like the food itself. It was very heavy and a lot of bread on bread. I think I would like a Katsu pork or chicken better. That's typically what I'm used to when eating katsu and the Godzilla burger was a beef patty, so it tasted kind of odd that it's fried. I might give them another shot with a pork or chicken katsu burger. The wasabi cole slaw was okay. I think they can be a little more heavy handed with the wasabi to get more flavor. It was just kind of subtle and l felt like I had to search for the taste.

Devon T.

Yelp
Best burger in the whole state!! Great taste, fresh ingredients!! My mew favorite burger!!

Patty T.

Yelp
This was the first time at this location having been to the location on Capitol Hill years ago. I had the Ninja Deluxe burger with curry fries they were just amazing. However, the dips are very, very thin but I'll be back.

Eric s.

Yelp
Stopped here to get a bite on the way home from a vacation. Wife found it on Yelp so we thought to give it a try. A very different menu, everything on menu is in katsu form. And I understand based on the name but I thought there might be at least a regular burger on the menu, but no. Not a very big menu, but enough to choose if you only like deep fried heavy food. We got Kyoto Mushroom Melt. I will say it was large, but not much flavor. The deep frying in a katsu style takes away the flavor of the beef. Just taste like deep fried breading to me. The mushrooms in the burger not cook well and in every bite they just fell out. I couldn't chew through them. Also got chicken bites. They were tender but the sauces, katsu and teriyaki were not very good. Very thick and strong. Also got fries, terrible overcooked shoestring like. Was not impressed. I will say my wife kinda liked it. I don't think it is a terrible place, but you need to be in the mood in my opinion. I just can't believe there are other locations. I wouldn't pick this place over many other burger joints.

Ethan S.

Yelp
Would take an order at 7:45 when they close at 8:00 why be open if you won't surge food until close.

TC B.

Yelp
First up, Stubborn Sodas are great. I had a fantastic pineapple cream soda. Wow. We were in Fed Way for a quick H-Mart run and decided to grab a dinner to take home since we didn't want to cook. We grabbed two Tokyo Classics and a Ninja Deluxe to go, all ichi-ban with fries. The two Tokyo Classics were upgraded to shakes: Green Tea and Black Sesame. We tried three different fries seasonings and some sauces. I know one seasoning was curry (because it was mine). Not 100% sure what the girls ordered. The curry fries are great! I paired them with Japanese Mayo (because Mayo and fries are the way). The Ninja Deluxe was awesome! A perfectly fried katsu cutlet with gravy AND cheddar cheese and burger fixings. What could be bad? The Tokyo Classics were also very good. They're a beef katsu instead of traditional pork. The two milkshakes were great! Overall, if you're seeking your next fusion place you need to try Katsu Burger.

Smaly K.

Yelp
I used to go to the Bellevue location often, and finally decided to try out this location when my brother decided he wanted a Katsu Burger for lunch. My brother, sister, and I all each ordered a burger and fries. I got the Tokyo Classic, my sister got the Ranch Kudasai, and my brother got the Ninja Deluxe. We all enjoyed our burgers. I tried a bite of my brother's, which was with the pork, and I really liked it. Next time I'll try one with the pork. I got the 12 Spice Fries, which is my favorite out of all the flavors; love their fries.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Service is always wonderful. The burgers are tasty and very generous portions. You can tell it's good quality meat. The restaurant is clean and welcoming.

Rachel P.

Yelp
We've been a few times lately. The burger is good- like really good. Chicken bites are heavily breaded and kiddo did not approve. Fries have been a bit hit or miss. Service is minimal and ok. Space is fairly clean. Drink options are great. Prices are good, comprable with red robin, etc. Not alot of options for kids.

Marah H.

Yelp
I flippin' love Katsu burger. They have great burgers and the best fries! The staff is always very friendly here, but the bathrooms never have paper towels and the restaurant floors are always sticky. Nevertheless we keep coming back because the food is unlike any place else. The Honey Miso Tofu Burger is so good with all the fixin's and the nori fries. They have a huge tv that is typically showing music videos but I'm guessing they might have sports on some occasions. No guarantees.

Joe D.

Yelp
4 1/2 out of 5. A rapidly expanding local chain that serves truly unique Japanese burgers. We had 5 different offerings from their menu and all sandwiches/burgers were breaded, deep fried, and well worth repeating. They are huge offerings, so believe me... one will do. The fresh buns are necessarily hefty and the shredded cabbage topping melded well with the Tonakatsu Sauce and Japanese Mayo. Tokyo Classic - The burger stays moist and not at all greasy... very good. Ninja Deluxe - The breaded pork loin was tender and moist, my favorite. Godzilla Attack - Spicy burger... I really liked the kick. Teriyaki Chicken - Again, breaded and deep fried does not mean greasy. I don't think we will ever visit FW and not have one of these memorable burgers/sandwiches. Highly recommend.

Sherry T.

Yelp
Sometimes you just want a burger, fries, and shake to drown your sorrows. Today was definitely a deep fried burger kind of day. I arrived around 12:30 on a Friday afternoon expecting a crowd, but the place was pretty dead. I wasn't too worried based on Yelp reviews. The woman operating the register was also doing the cooking. I was impressed. Katsu burger was clean and seating was comfortable. This was my first burger experience in Federal Way and my first ever deep fried burger experience. I chose the Godzilla Attack burger with sea salt fries, miso honey mustard dipping sauce, and a chocolate milkshake. What really made the burger good was the tonakatsu sauce and the many, many jalapeños. BAM!!! The burger being deep fried was kind of whatever. I could only finish half of it. The fries were nice. The milkshake was far too thick and nothing particularly special. All and all, this was a decent experience.

Amandeep K.

Yelp
If you like katsu and you like burgers, you HAVE to try this place! I had no idea how good the fusion of katsu and burger could be until I came here two weeks ago. From the service to the food, Katsu burger really delivered from all the hype and reviews I had heard. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman, who took our order and patiently explained everything to us on what they had, their sides, and his recommendations. I had the teriyaki chicken katsu burger minus the pineapple and added pepper jack cheese, my husband had the Ohayou Gozaimasu katsu burger and we shared some Nori fries and Karokke. When I first got my burger, there was no cheese on it, but the server (who had taken our order) noticed right away and apologized and went back to the kitchen to get it fixed for me. This gentleman really gave us great customer service, which made our experience that much better! As for my burger - it was absolutely delicious! I loved every aspect of the taste and actually only finished half my burger, so I had lunch for the next day. The only thing I would say is that the burger bun is so large which makes it a little messy to eat, but TOTALLY WORTH THE MESS! My husband enjoyed his burger but found that his was extra messy (due to the egg) so that took away from his experience a little bit, but now he knows to get something else next time ;) The fries were good, pretty standard even with the Nori flakes and I probably won't get again, but my favorite was the Karokke! The mashed potatoes in them really makes the dish put hash browns to shame! I'm already looking forward to my next meal here!

Joseph H.

Yelp
Just okay could do a lot better with service. Maybe need more hands, they seem short staffed.

Bernadette B.

Yelp
I would give 10 stars if I could. The staff are just simply perfect! Friendly, diligent, fast, cleanly just an awesome experience. It was our first time so the gentleman explained how to order. We got 2 meals. mine was a curry pork burger with curry dusted fries and the honey mustard dip (different name and more seasoned but i forgot). Everything was delicious!! the pictures do no justice to how huge the burger was. The guy was even laughing and patient when we took forever to decide since everything looked so darn good! The meal my mom got was a chicken curry burger with nori fries and wasabi dip. We tasted each others sandwiches and fries and were quite pleased with All of the food. I loved this place!! I wish I could have tipped more!!

Andrew E.

Yelp
Came for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was about half full so it seemed like they have steady business. I had their ninja deluxe burger and it was pretty good. I had low expectations to be honest but was pleasantly surprised. I had a side of fries with it and they could honestly have been better. Poor texture and the curry flavor didn't make it any better. Luckily we asked for it to come with spicy mayo which made it delicious. Ambience and decor wasn't anything fancy and reminded me of a sports bar. We were worried about our food taking a while because they only had two employees working both the cashier and the kitchen but everything came quickly to our surprise.

Andrea O.

Yelp
This was a surprise find! I needed to charge my car at a nearby supercharger and was looking for dining options. As soon as I saw katsu burger, I stopped searching. I'm used to the tiny KB restaurants in seattle and bellevue, so when I entered this place I was really surprised by its size, plenty of seating space! We ordered Ninja Deluxe, banzai bites (chicken) and sea salt fries, with curry Mayo and wasabi Mayo. Everything was freshly fried and absolutely delicious. The ND with tonkatsu was the best I had at any KB restaurant, fantastic. The fries, which I rarely eat, were fantastic too, super crunchy as I like them. The curry Mayo and the wasabi Mayo were the perfect dip for them. Amazing. The banzai bites were delicious too, daughter was happy. I'd give it 6* if I could

Autumn B.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken teriyaki burger, I ordered it with no onions, pickles or tomatoes and no bun. It should have come with the chicken, pineapple and 2 sauces. It came as just chicken and pineapple. No teriyaki or Japanese Mayo. So it was a dry fried food with no sauce. I'm giving 2 stars because after adding my own Japanese Mayo it tasted fine, just irritating that the teriyaki burger had no teriyaki.

Melanie B.

Yelp
The katsu is perfectly breaded and juicy, tender delicious. The toppings were fresh. The sauces were flavorful. Loved the flavored fries and different dipping option. We like shoes string fries, so these hit the spot. The wasabi coleslaw was nice, especially if you like wasabi. Milkshakes were thick and tasted great. And Jones fountain soda- rounded it out as a great unique meal. Worth coming back for.

Jocelynn P.

Yelp
This was my first time coming to Federal Way- I was looking for something to eat. I saw this cute little place and decided id look at the menu. Everything sounded so amazing. I landed on the Godzilla burger. The customer service was amazing on the phone. I walked in a it was so dreamy ! I loved the aesthetic! My burger was amazing !

Jake Z.

Yelp
Quality and size of burgers have changed a ton over the years, not nearly as good as it used to be when I first had it back in 2019. 1/2 the size too.

Jessica Z.

Yelp
Godzilla Attack Burger & Ninja Deluxe Burger Amazing flavor, very savory, not salty but still really crispy. The fries were warm and were cooked perfectly as well. This was my third time coming here this year. I'll definitely be going back before the year ends. Also, the Godzilla burger is big! If you have a huge appetite get the Godzilla!

Rumiko S.

Yelp
I crave for Katsu burger once a month Sauce makes buns little too wet Taste is great

Chris V.

Yelp
I've only been to the original Katsu Burger in Georgetown so was happy to see they opened a location in Federal Way. I've also never ordered the chicken sandwich and am very happy I did. It's an actual katsu chicken breast and is tender, as well as, very tasty. In fact, it may be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The pickles were a strange addition but once I removed them, the sandwich was basically perfect. The staff was also very welcoming and helpful too. I very much appreciated the way they have the restaurant ser up for social distancing during the pandemic and felt perfectly safe dining in the restaurant. Overall, it was an excellent experience and one I plan to repeat. The bonus is they're located in the same strip mall area as Trader Joe's so it's a perfect reason to visit both when in the area.

Lasha H.

Yelp
OKAY this was my 1st time here, and I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't impressed. It's a nice place clean, good customer service. I ordered the Samurai Burger, curry fries and seaweed salad. The fries were really good, seaweed salad also good. The burger was JUST okay and heavy on wasabi, so I couldn't really taste anything else. I will probably try it again but I'm not in a big hurry!

Erika H.

Yelp
Omg this place is so good. We got some gunk in our beer, so might want to check before you drink. Other then that really good food.
