The Best Russian Restaurants In San Francisco

"While nowhere near the Richmond District, it felt criminal to leave Pushkin off the guide. Offering an updated and unique take on Russian food, the family-run restaurant is located in an alley in the Financial District and brings in influences from other former Soviet countries like Ukraine and Georgia. From rainbow-colored pelmeni to chicken vareniki, the classic dishes here are amplified with less traditional flavors and spices to make everything on the menu really pop. Stop by for outdoor dining or order delivery through their website." - aida agayeva

The Best Katsu Sandwiches in San Francisco | Eater SF

"The newest addition to this list, Katsuya opened March 2021, hidden away in a small food court near the Dragon’s Gate entrance to Chinatown. It’s taken off on Instagram, thanks to its chicken katsu, ebi katsu, and cheese katsu, with dramatically gooey cheese pulls." - Becky Duffett

Small unassuming entrance. You order at the kiosk at the front (there's one for a Korean restaurant here too) and then sit. There has not been a line or a lot of people inside the times I've been for dinner on a weeknight. Good vibes if you just want to eat alone after work one day. Good amount of tables and chairs and self service water. The food doesn't come out super fast but that's because they have a ton of takeout and delivery orders. But it is pretty yummy and good quantity. I'll keep coming.

If you’re in SF and craving katsu, you must try Katsuya. I had the cheese katsu and it was absolutely delicious — crispy on the outside, super juicy inside, and that melted cheese… perfection! On top of that, the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. You can really feel the care they put into their food and service. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Google
delivery came in perfect condition!!! i can always count on them for amazing katsu. they also cater for corporate lunches and events—i’ve had them at my company before and it was really good then too. portions are huge. definitely recommend!

Google
Sorry to taint the otherwise wonderful reviews by everyone else. I am not sure why the fried pork cutlet rice bowl - Katsudon came in a wet bowl of rice with Oyakodon soup base beneath.

Google
Katsuya SF nails it. The chicken katsu donburi was amazing — crispy, juicy, and perfectly balanced with the rice and egg. The space is nice, and the service was friendly and attentive. Great spot for a casual but elevated Japanese meal.

Google
Got the hire katsu (tenderloin) because it seemed to be the best katsu they have to offer. The overall meal wasn't that bad, and the miso soup that came along with it was okay. However, the katsu was a bit dry and the breading a bit hard to chew through. Not bad, but I do hope they focus a bit more on the quality of the katsu.

Google
The Food Is Not That Good why hell you put wasabi on salad what happened there people don't like wasabi I don't care there little bit I been lot Japanese restaurants i know my food and Indian girl she don't understand English my mom ask her do you have spicy sauce she say yeah then we been waiting 8 minutes she didn't come back bad customer service she don't understand English that well how people going say. So I give it a 2 not that good.

From Underground to Aboveground! Katsuya is my go-to lunch spot in downtown with the best value for money! Of course, it’s a bit different from when I first started coming here—the ingredients have become a bit less generous. But for this price and portion size, it’s best to just quietly enjoy their delicious sandwiches, haha. Not just sandwiches, but also dishes like tonkatsu curry, donburi, takoyaki… There’s a wide variety on the menu, so I recommend trying them all at least once!

Yelp
Katsuya has always been the spot in the International Food Court for the longest time, and I wanted to try this location! Geared towards the work lunch crowd, it's fairly fast for getting your order and getting seated (or getting out, if you're doing to-go). There's a set of ordering kiosks and menu right by the entrance. Punch in your order and get seated. Plenty of seats if you're not there during the lunch rush, otherwise it can get packed. Service is fairly non-existent apart from when they bring you your food. For this meal, I went during dinner time (greeted by a mostly empty restaurant and lots of available seats). I got a Chicken Katsu Curry Rice and my friend got a Chicken Katsu Sando. Chicken Katsu Curry Rice is fantastic as always, with crispy hot chicken and a large amount of curry and rice to pair it with. Complimentary miso soup is included. Portions from Katsuya are generous and filling, though flavor/taste isn't as great as other places. Not a spot I would take someone out for dinner, but for dollar for your work lunch, Katsuya is a great spot and hasn't let me down when I'm in Financial District on business.

Yelp
Truthfully, I didn't know what I was in for in visiting Katsuya. Apparently I wasn't alone. Arriving for a work lunch during lunch hours, one thing we did know, as a group of 5, is that we immediately needed to grab a seat while we figured it out. From there, I definitely felt like I was in some sort of clue based, escape room style, "figure-it-out" gameshow. Once settled, my group struggled to find a menu apart from one on the wall above the order kiosk (which was difficult to view from our table). We also had a time deciphering that not one but two restaurants occupied the space, each with their own menu. Woohoo, clue unlocked! Apparently we missed out on complimentary miso, but after ordering, and a short wait, we "won", and our rewards- sandwiches! Although these sandwiches were beautiful and fragrant, the vibe at the table was sheer surprise! These meals are huge, and in addition to your sandwich, they arrive with multiple sides. All things said and done, they offer an impressive meal at a competitive price. Just make sure to read the Yelp reviews first! From securing seating, to discovering the dual menus, to guessing which items would come with the chicken katzu, This experience felt like a gameafied puzzle experience.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time! I remembered they had a location inside the International Food Court, but they opened a location up closer to my work place. My bestie and I wanted to try this place out since we were both craving Katsu, so we decided to come here for lunch. It was only a 5-10 minute walk from Beale Street, which is great! They have two kiosks, but one of them was for another restaurant. There is only one tablet available to order take out or to dine in. My bestie and I already knew what we wanted to eat, which was the following: ITEMS ORDERED: -2 Cheese Katsu Sando Meals $19.95 each -1 order of Cheese Balls $5.95 (comes with 5+ pieces) -1 order of Chicken Kaarage $7.45 -2 Diet Cokes $2.50 each Mind you it's super busy during lunch time, so I would come here right when they open or order ahead of time if you're taking it back to the office! My bestie and I came here around 12:15, but we did not get our food until 12:45ish. They had plenty of tables around, and they do have a small table with water and takeout boxes for you available. REVIEW OF EACH ITEM TRIED: -Cheese Katsu Sando Meal: The Cheese Katsu Sando Meal was delicious! It was SUPER heavy though. This meal came with miso soup, a side salad, sesame balls with a spicy mayo, the cheese katsu itself, and pickled veggies. They do not skimp on the portions at all. I barely touched my plate and got full super fast. I was able to save more than half of everything for dinner later! The Katsu itself was super cheesy and fried perfectly. The Miso soup was a great starter, and the sesame balls with spicy mayo was a combination I never knew could work so well. This bento box was such a great combination of flavors and it was all delicious!! -Cheese balls: These were super good! They were fried balls that had mozzarella inside, that were covered in that spicy mayo like sauce that was SO good. I got full off of these super quickly but definitely super cheesy! -Chicken Kaarage: THESE WERE SO GOOD. The batter itself was light and the flavor of the chicken was juicy, yet SO delicious! Highly recommend getting these for yourself or to share! They were still crispy, even after being in the fridge to cool down and after being microwaved! I'll definitely come back and try other things off their menu! I definitely enjoyed my meal, although it got me super sleepy after. Amazing portions and the flavor of everything was great!

Yelp
This was fine is not forgettable. I'm over the non-interaction ordering system that used to be just at busy airports but has crept its way into so many restaurants. It just doesn't land for me, hard to explain. Especially as a group, it's a bit awkward to take turns with it, know what to order, etc. so I just defaulted to trying what the group ordered, a chicken curry katsu. The chicken was the highlight as it was flavorful, but the rest was OK. It was thick and under-flavored.. I found myself shaking some sort of unlabeled spicy powder all over every bite I took to spice it up, literally and figuratively. Probably a good spot if you're on your own and can grab a spot up at Salesforce Park on a nice day. For us, we squeezed into a table and the atmosphere is very much a "to-go" vibe. Wouldn't make it a point to return, but it wasn't bad.

Yelp
Wow, this was so delicious! Portions are huge. The katsu sando itself is massive, and if you go with a box it comes with all sorts of accompaniments like mac salad, bean balls and cole slaw. The chicken is super thin, crispy and flavorful. If you like katsu chicken then you really cannot go wrong. Grabbing seats, ordering at the kiosk and getting our food was all a pretty quick and seamless process. They have a big lunch crowd but people move in and out fast. This is a nice pick for lunch in the area if you want something fast, quality and filling.

Yelp
A solid lunch spot in the city. Katsuya is located right in fidi so parking isn't the easiest but if you're already working in the city, it's worth a walk! The shop is small with some seating inside. You'll order at a kiosk and they have some chairs to sit while you wait if you're taking it to-go. Food came out pretty quickly, we probably only had to wait 10 minutes for two meals. I went with the chicken katsu sando meal. That's truly a full meal and if you're not too hungry, it can definitely get two people satisfied. It comes with a pretty sizeable sandwich along with a handful of sides, all in an impressive to-go box (the design/packaging lover in me loved that). Everything tasted pretty good too, even when I ate it about an hour later. Not a bad choice if you're looking for a quick lunch in the city!

Yelp
While in town for a work trip, we visited Katsuya for lunch and it was an awesome choice! Upon arrival can get a little chaotic. It's wildly popular (for good reason) but ordering happens at a kiosk - one is for Katsuya and another is for another business in the shared space. Seating is minimal, but we were lucky enough to find a spot for all of us. This is definitely a grab and go or eat quick type of spot but the team here cranks stuff out as quick as they can. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry Bowl and it was so good! The chicken katsu was so crispy and packed so much flavor. Absolutely LOVED the curry too! Flavor was immaculate and the soft veggies were a big highlight for me. Complimentary miso soup for the table was a surprise (not listed on the ordering screen) so I was stoked! Big miso soup girl and Katsuya has a delicious one. Overall this is a great lunch option in downtown SF!

Yelp
Quick service spot where you order on a kiosk, wait for your food to be prepped and then you can either dine in or take out. There are two different kiosks to order from and they are different. One specializes in katsu sandos, rice bowls, and curry rice bowls. The other one specializes in Korean street food. You may be confused if you go into one kiosk or the other and not see the food options you were expecting. If you dine in they do have self serve water in the back, along with togarashi seasoning to add a little spice. We came in on a cold (to me) day and the curry rice bowls really warmed me up. It was so homey and comforting. The togarashi spice is really what bumped it up for me. We came in for lunch, and during the rush the food took a bit longer than we had planned for. There is a mix of online delivery and dine in / takeout. It was pretty packed in there with lots of folks coming in from food delivery.

Yelp
I stopped into Katsuya on a Thursday with a group of five. This restaurant is on the smaller size, but has a good amount of tables for dine in. There are two digital kiosks up front- one for Katsuya, and one for Korean street food. Each kiosk is only for the one business, so if there's a line for one you'll have to wait. It would be great if you could order from either kiosk, as it can get busy during lunch time. Our group ordered a variety of katsu sandwiches and curry as well as some bottled waters. There is a water station on the far end of the restaurant, but when it's crowded it's hard to see it available. The staff behind the scenes was working hard, there were many to-go orders being picked up and the team came out with orders for the tables quickly. We were happily surprised that our meals came with miso soup as a little starter. The meals here were very generously portioned and the Katsu sandwiches were large, well cooked, and flavorful. The sides were also delicious, with a small slaw/salad, macaroni salad, and sesame balls. I ended up having at least half left over that made for another great meal. I'd definitely stop in again.

Yelp
So, it wasn't one of my favorite meals in SF, but they did have some positive things worth mentioning... :: Portions are large :: Food comes out fast. They seem to do a lot of delivery and takeout. :: Complimentary miso soup to start off your meal is a nice touch. If you're GF or trying to eat on the lighter side, there really isn't much on the menu you can enjoy. Everything is either battered, deep fried, or has bread (or breading). I wasn't too hungry, so I got the chicken katsu sando (sando only vs a meal), and I removed the bread and could still only eat half.
google avatar

Camille F.

Yelp
Me griping about robots again: order at the unmanned, giant tablet at the front door. Eventually, somebody will bring out your food. I had the chicken curry katsu. The chicken was fried to perfection, and the breading has a slight corn flake cereal flavor that I really enjoyed. The curry added some good flavor underneath, but I could've gone for something a little bit spicier. Rice was nice and sticky, the potatoes in the curry (I think they were potatoes) were yummy. I imagine this is a good spot for a quick take-out during your lunch break or on the way home from work. Seating is limited inside and I wouldn't call the atmosphere romantic at all. But, this is a central location in San Fran's corporate world, and this bowl tasted great for a windy, overcast day. If I came back I would try something different!

AIexander C.

Yelp
Mid food with dry meat for a katsu don. Gotta say its not a place you can just get every week either, pretty greasy and prices are definitely not low. They share a space with korean restaurant, not amazing. At the least they have kind staff. Feels like the place to bait asian fetishizers more than good food.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Grabbed a tonkatsu sando on the way home from work from here because the location is really convenient (right next to Montgomery bart station) and I've been eyeing photos of their sandos. Sad to say that the sando was quite disappointing - not very flavorful and the pork was quite dry. :( Quite aesthetically pleasing though!

Yelp
I usually grab lunch at Katsuya when I'm heading into the city for work around midday. Since it's located in the Financial District, it definitely feels geared toward business folks--the atmosphere and menu suit the fast pace of office workers. The portions are decent and filling, but honestly, the taste isn't anything special. It's okay, but not memorable. The price is on the higher side--a bowl of curry rice runs close to $25, which is quite expensive for lunch. I guess if you're not working nearby or a business person, most regular customers probably wouldn't go out of their way to eat here. After all, you can probably find more flavorful or more authentic meals elsewhere for the same price. I mostly come because it's close to my office, so it's convenient. Although the taste is average, the food is consistent and served quickly, making it a decent choice when you want a quick, filling meal without going far. Overall, Katsuya feels more like a convenient spot to solve your lunch hunger rather than a place you'd crave for its deliciousness.

Yelp
Now if you need a strong cheese pull game, Katsuya has you covered! This spot is most ideal for folks who either want to take their food to-go or want to sit down and eat for about 10-15 minutes then leave so the table opens up for someone else. You order your food from a dedicated ipad towards the front of shop and then you simply wait. There is no table service and the only human interaction you have is when your number is called out. No crazy decor, no shenanigans, just a solid work spot. I had a cheese katsuya sandwich and I felt like there was a never ending amount of cheese lol. You can order sandwiches by themselves or grab a box and it has a set choice of sides. There isn't really any modifications allowed so keep that in mind!

Yelp
I took a bunch of my colleagues here for lunch last week and we all had a wonderful meal. I myself ordered the chicken katsyu sandwich, which was absolutely remarkable. The crunch, the flavor, the portion, the aroma.. everything about it was perfect. I actually took half of it back to the office and placed it in the fridge to enjoy after work. I broke my own heart when I realized I went home without it. It still hurts to think about.

Yelp
So pleased with my visit :) $17 katsu curry but a big portion for me. Ate half for lunch and will eat the rest tomorrow. The chicken katsu curry cane with miso soup and red ginger which is a must. also a little tamago square I think. The kid soup could've been hotter but the curry was nice and toasty. Good curry to rice ratio. The curry was my ideal texture. not too thick but not too runny. The curry had carrots and potatoes also. The chicken was very moist and tender and the katsu breading was nice and crispy and not too oily. The restaurant had lots of seating. You order like u would at a japanese katsu place. Order at a kiosk at the front then they bring out the food. I'd like to try the ebi katsu sandwich sometime
google avatar

Ray B.

Yelp
The perfect place if you have limited time and have to make an 8pm curtain call for a movie you paid $40 bucks for at the Metreon. The ordering processes was simple and the food came out relatively fast. The food was a Japanese version of a Chipotle or McDonals. If you're looking for high level of Japanese food this isn't it. If you're looking for a quick in and out, perfect! BB
google avatar

Romi M.

Yelp
The food was very yummy! The Gydon was very juicy and had lots of great toppings. The Chicken Katsu sandwich was super satisfying. The restaurant shares a space with a Korean restaurant. You can order from both the Korean and Japanese menu. You order on an iPad and then a server will bring out your food. We came on a Saturday at noon and there weren't very many people there. Highly recommend trying it !

Yelp
Dining room was closed at 2PM but I ordered pickup before the deadline. I ordered the Hiri Katsu with Japanese Curry. The pork tenderloin was crispy and flavorful. My wife had the pork katsudon and was very happy with it. The portions are huge and satisfying, enough for 2 meals. They both lasted until the next day. We also ordered the cheese balls appetizer which were crunchy on the outside and came with a terrific dipping sauce. They came with miso soup which was good but we usually make our own with tofu, which comes out much better at home with kombu and nori. Both dishes were under 20 dollars as are most on the menu.

Yelp
I rarely go to the FIDI, but once in a while, I will be here to run an errand. Months ago, I asked one of the service providers where he eats and he told me about Katsuya. Katsuya is located downstairs in the International Food Court. This place used to be packed with FIDI office workers getting lunch, now it's not that busy, but slowly coming back?A lot of the original restaurants left during the pandemic, so many changes and updates which is good because this place looks cleaner and brighter every time I visit. Food at Katsuya is yummy and packaged well. You can get a pretty good lunch bento or Sando under $20. This is unfortunately the norm now. You can still find some $15 or under deals in SF but not that many. Located in the basement of the International Food Court, on Bush St. and Kearny St.. Also, an additional entrance on Kearny St.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed this quick meal. We ordered on a kiosk and the food came out really quickly. The bento set is a great deal and we were full splitting the sandwich between two people. It had a great mix of items-- salad, macaroni salad, red bean sesame balls, sandwich and miso soup. I will definitely come again.

Yelp
What a great find in the city's financial district! Katsuya checks all the boxes for quality/taste/size/ of their sandos! We've always wanted to try this place but they're only open during the weekday. We had an opportunity to make a trip to the city and this was definitely worth the trip! It's below ground but don't let that deter you. It's clean and organized, even though it appears to be an older building. The one lady that helped us our orders was friendly and helpful. She made the sando kits perfectly and deliciously. My ebi sando was thick crunchy and tasty. All the sides hit just right as well. Same thing w/ my friends chicken sando! Crunchy and seasoned well and bread was toasted just right! Thanks Katsuya! We can't wait to revisit if you're open. Lol
google avatar

Yelp
I had to go underground for this cheesy sando from Katsuya which is located inside the International Food Court located in San Francisco at FiDi. This is one of the most cheesiest Japanese sando I ever had. Opening the box the sando contained a breaded crispy pork cutlet with melted mozzarella . The sando in the box looked similar to a crispy chicken sandwich. The bread of the sando was so soft and it absorbed all the different flavorful sauces on the savory crispy cutlet including the melted cheesy mozzarella that stretched for miles. The box also contained a good tasty mac salad and a few saucy covered sesame balls. I would say this is in my top 3 list of Japanese sandos in San Francisco. Katsuya has cutlet style sando that's Japanese It contains lots of flavor and extra cheese
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I enjoyed both items on separate occasions, but the ebi (shrimp) sando was my favorite. It is a bit pricey and heavy for lunch so not an everyday lunch spot but a nice option every once in a while.
google avatar

Kumar V.

Yelp
Tried chicken katsu - good curry and rice. I liked it pretty much. I was really impressed with the quantity. Pretty generous in my opinion. The place offers 2 menu - one Japanese and another one chinese. It is a mix of self service kinda place - you take your own water, order through a kiosk machine etc. so can't really comment on the service.
google avatar

Vijay N.

Yelp
Unassuming and hidden Japanese spot slinging some solid Katsu and Katsu Sandos. My friend and I decided to pop by here for dinner after catching a movie in Japantown. The restaurant itself is hidden within an International food court - you take some stairs down into a quaint but relatively spacious dining hall. Orders are done via a tablet. For our meal I got a cheese Katsu Sando with a side of curry and my friend got the cheese Katsu plate with a side of takoyaki. Food took about 10-15 minutes to be prepared and came out very fresh. The Highlight was definitely the sando (combined with they curry too). It's cheesy, savory and quite delicious. All the accoutrements that came with it were also really. I can't stress enough that you HAVE to get the curry with it. Without the curry i found the katsu to be good, but the curry is what brought it from good to great. Would definitely stop by here again if I find myself in this part of downtown. 4/5

Yelp
Located in the international food quart. There was an option to order just the sandwich which works out for me because I do not care for the side imitation crab (or was it macaroni) salad in the bento version. I like that they fry their meat per order, so it's fresh. The sandwich came with katsu sauce on the sides and stuffed with shredded raw cabbage, dusted with aonori. They also ladled a small portion of miso soup which was a nice pairing. Service was pretty quick because I got in before the lunch rush. Ambiance is a food court. Overall, it's not bad. Chicken Katsu sandwich alone is $10.50 (pre tax) and was pretty filling for me.

Yelp
I grabbed lunch from Katsuya for the second time yesterday. I like the different items that are on the tonkatsu lunch box- the macaroni salad, the pickles, and the dressing in the cabbage salad are all tasty. It was plenty filling for the price, too. But when I went yesterday, the star of the show (the pork katsu) was dry. And, because they give you a very minimal amount of sauce for it, I ate most of the meat pieces dry and sauceless. That doesn't mean I don't recommend trying it- the first time I went, the katsu sando was right on point, although a bit heavy on the bread. And, if you order ahead, there's a 20% coupon code on their website right now. For me, the lack of consistency and the large number of other places to lunch in the same area, in the same price range, means I'll move on and try other things.

Jen K.

Yelp
Anytime I'm craving Katsu, this is where I go! They also have a variety of Korean food selection. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This little shop is tucked in a small food court in the financial district. My sister and I tried the ebi katsu sandwich and it was so yummy! The ebi was so thick and paired perfectly with the tartar sauce. The bread was soft. I definitely want to try the other sandwich options. There is plenty of seating in the area and gets busy during lunch time.

Yelp
I saw this spot on social media and wanted to give it a try since the photos looked good. I was disappointed. The portions are pretty small and the flavor wasn't all there. The soup was my favorite part. If I come back, I want to try the ebi katsu
google avatar

Calla Y.

Yelp
I went to Katsuya for lunch with a couple of friends. I was excited to try their katsu sandwich combo. After trying the item a la carte and in combo, I would recommend only getting the a la carte. The additional items in the lunch plate were not flavorful and overall didn't add much to the meal. The katsu sandwich is tender and saucy but could be a little messy when eating. A good amount of seating is available. Its a casual setting where you order on the kiosk. On the pricier side for lunch but very convenient as it is near all the corporate buildings
google avatar

Mimi A.

Yelp
During lunch, the place was a bit busy as they were restocking supplies. (In and out with boxes) I ordered chicken but was accidentally given pork. It took a while to find a staff member since no one was immediately available (everyone was in the back) Once I flagged someone down and showed my receipt, they apologized and brought me a side of chicken after about 15 minutes. The food presentation was impressive, but the flavor could use improvement. Place is not too big but comfortably spaced out.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
The cheese tonkatsu was so cheesy! I really enjoyed the meal. It comes with rice and pickled vegetables. The cheese tonkatsu was seriously cheesy. I took it to-go and the cheese was still very gooey, which I was surprised the cheese didn't harden. The tonkatsu was also still crispy even though it was in the to-go box for a while! For $20 dollars I thought it was filling and delicious. One thing to note is that the restaurant is located down in a basement, downstairs in a building. Parking is definitely hard, so be prepared!
google avatar

Yelp
Was surprised by the flavorfulness of this sando! This food court is tucked away in a basement floor of a FiDi building and rather unassuming, but I think Katsuya is my fav out of all the options in the court. I came here after a workout and got the katsu sando - the chicken was nice and crispy and I liked the slaw in it toox The side dish pairings are a bit odd (sesame balls in sauce and macaroni) but tasted decent. It's not busy for dinner, so service was fast. Overall a solid pick if you live or work near the area and are craving some solid (albeit untraditional) sando.

Yelp
Yum! Ngl the interior looks a bit abandoned but this was a solid katsu sando. Slightly more sauce than I would've preferred. If you get the cheese one I'd recommend eating it immediately afterwards (no longer as good if you wait to eat it).

Yelp
I come here for the chicken Katsu sandwiches and quirky underground dining vibe. Katsu sandwiches tend to be pricey but compared to the limited other places that have them (Okinawa Café, Bread and Chu,) it's pretty much the same price but here you also get some sides in a bento box like macaroni salad, sesame balls, and salad. It was definitely a good amount of food. The International Food court is easy to miss because it's downstairs but there are signs in front and it's close to Belden Street. The underground location reminds me of all sorts of cute clandestine food places in Japan. It's more to suit office workers in the area because so keep in mind it's closed on the weekends.

Yelp
Delicious cheese katsu sando! Was curious about trying it after seeing pictures, but the cheese pull is no joke! The cheese is hot and still oozing when served. While I would enjoy the mac salad and side salad separately, together with the cheese katsu it is a bit overwhelming. The red bean balls are drenched in sauce, so perhaps if there was a way to have that sauce on the side it would complement the meal a bit more as dessert. The kitchen was busy with takeout orders during a Friday lunch hour, but workers were still helpful when flagged down.

Yelp
Located in the International Food Court, Katsuya is one of the couple of options inside. They have the Cheese Katsu sandwiches which were ok. They had an alright cheese pull but does not compare to Hako in Irvine.

Yelp
didn't expect to have pretty decent food at an underground food court haha but I missed my fav japanese food katsudon :"D katsu wasn't very juicy but was crispy enough. I didn't fancy the macaroni (mayo) salad and the cheesy sauce that ruined the red bean sesame balls. but overall generous portions and we liked it

Yelp
I came here with a friend on a Friday for lunch. It's actually located within a food court and there are ~15-20 tables to sit at. Food came out pretty quickly in ~10 minutes and was packaged nicely in a takeout box and bag with sides like salad and macaroni. I got the cheese katsu and it was very yummy!! I got my cheese pull and I was very happy :)) The katsu was super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside Would definitely come back again for a great work lunch. Prices were pretty normal for SF ranges.

Yelp
I ordered via door dash the katsu was kinda dry and burnt, maybe my mistake ordering through door dash. The curry was good, better than the katsu. Hopefully it was just an off day, hoping to try again in the future.

Yelp
Whoa, hold the phone. Katsuya is calling and they want to tell you about these chicken Katsu dishes. These things are special. I've had the original and the cheese one. Both elite. I love that you can get this whole box with all sorts of other treats and flavors. Pair that with an elite sandwich for like $20? Amazing deal honestly. For like $20 they hand you a box with this sandwich, Mac salad, regular salad, sesame balls, pickles/radish, and miso soup. Like what?! Katsuya is a real hidden gem. (4.6 Stars)

Yelp
located in an underground food court which was a little dingy. we went on a tuesday night and it was pretty empty - some of the other restaurants were closed for the day. - chicken katsu set meal (3/5): not bad, though the katsu sauce felt a little too vinegary (?) - cheese katsu set meal (3/5): i liked this more than the katsu sando, but the cheese hardened really quickly - i appreciated the various sides in the set meals and the miso soup, but overall the meal was the definition of mid. it wasn't so bad to where i didn't finish my meal, but i would not come back again or recommend it overall, cool concept and aesthetically pleasing, but the food was just meh
