The 20 Best Restaurants in Waikiki, Hawaiʻi | Eater

"Inside the Prince Waikiki hotel, you’ll find the only outpost of the Katsumidori chain outside of Japan. This location ditches the model train that delivers orders to your seat at Japanese locations, but it’s still a good stop for moderately priced sushi that’s a step above your average sushi languishing on a conveyor belt. The most deluxe sushi set (still under $40) includes luxuries such as uni, abalone, and jumbo eel, an almost comically long piece of seafood. Know before you go: Make reservations to avoid disappointment." - Martha Cheng

Worst experience ever at Hawaii. Made a reservation at this one. Waiter asked me about the food and I just honestly told them the sea urchin was not fresh. The chef seemed pretty mad after hearing this and told me “everything is the same…do not eat it”. I heard about this restaurant from the RedNote and I believed they raised the price a little bit. Frankly speaking, sushi quality is not as good as what I had in New York, though i thought it should be, given so many Japanese restaurants here.

Google
This place offers an excellent sushi experience with fresh ingredients and beautiful presentation. The sashimi platter was diverse and flavorful, the uni hand roll was rich and creamy, and the anago was perfectly tender. However, the wait time was a bit long, and the service, while good, could have been more attentive. Overall, a fantastic spot for high-quality sushi at a reasonable price—just be prepared for a slight wait during peak hours!

First, I'd recommend to update the menu on the website, which many items are missing as well as prices exist differences. Second, I'd highly recommend to de-scale for the fish inside the fish miso soup to better add value to this delicious soup, such a pity! Finally it's usually not called ”a set” without soup/salad or small dishes. Overall taste were okay, the tuna variety somehow missed the fresh fatty aroma even it didn't taste not good. Probably I'd just expect too much before I visit. It looks better than it tastes. Service is good and it's comfortable tho.

Google
It's a great little sushi bar with an extensive menu. I recommend sitting near the chefs. You want a bit more of an atmosphere. Most enjoyed the snapper nigiri and sardine nigiri.

Customer service was good and it seemed that it was layed out like a typical Japanese restaurant in Japan would be. The fresh spicy shrimp sushi and the spicy salmon sushi were fresh and savory and delicious. One of the best shrimp sushi I’ve had. The delicate fresh shrimp won me over. The katsu parfait was underwhelming and would not recommend.

Update 12/4/24: for Dinner, let’s get this out of the way, this is one of the top sushi places in the USA period. Seasoned master Japanese sushi chefs, the sushi is sublime, Tokyo+ quality, full stop. Now, as far as other dishes, it’s a significant step down. Soups, desserts, all a bunch of notches below the sushi. So it’s a great, great sushi restaurant that offers truly authentic Japanese food, a rarity anywhere in the USA. Now on to the restaurant. It’s pretentious, very snooty service. The management and everything is Frenetic, very loud atmosphere. I was called ahead of time to confirm my reservation and promise not to exceed 90 minutes. The master sushi chefs will take food orders from Japanese but not from Most non-Japanese. It is what it is. Side note, reasonable prices relatively speaking. December 2023 Lunch: There seems to be (at least) three authentic Japanese restaurants in Waikiki. Authentic means Japanese key staff, authentic dishes, none of the American rolls etc. the other two being Suntory and Yoshitsune. This restaurant features very high quality Japanese fare for lunch and dinner. This review focuses on lunch. There’s a few great specials and we had the Chirashi , assorted tempura, miso soup and a huge flavorful very fresh tofu salad bargain at $7.50. Call ahead for sure and dinner can be hard to get into.

Image 1: Costs $11, but the taste is just average. It’s not as good as the à la carte sashimi for $3–$4, which is much fattier. Image 2: The platter with three kinds of sashimi was mediocre, except for the uni. Image 3: Highly recommend the fried dishes—cheap and delicious! The fried oysters and fried vegetables with shrimp were great. Image 4: This is Kobora’s uni. I mistakenly ordered the $7 regular uni sushi instead. Image 5: The fried platter was average overall; only the fried oysters and vegetables are worth ordering individually. sushi is all quite good, with options like sweet shrimp and scallops—my favorite is the sweet shrimp. The special uni was already sold out by the time we arrived at 8 PM, and the sea urchin egg was gone too. Reservations are necessary. Even if you arrive an hour early, you’ll still need to wait until the exact seating time to be seated.

Katsumidori is very very busy (at least at night times after 8pm) and I would recommend you make a reservation before going, or you may need to wait 30 minutes to an hour to grab a seat or to get your takeout orders processed. The sushi stations have much more backlog than the rest of the kitchen, and if you’re dining in, you should be able to enjoy your non-sushi items before you get your sushi. As for takeouts, I highly recommend you either go all sushi or all non-sushi, when you mix the two your non-sushi items can come out very cold. We ordered fried chicken along with a Yokozuna sushi set, and we ate the food immediately at a bench nearby the restaurant after receiving the food and we noticed fried chicken is already quite cold and soggy. As far as the sushi goes, some items are undoubtedly quite good. We enjoyed most of the nigiris except for the clam and eel ones, but these lower quality nigiri (and cold fried chickens) really lowered the overall dining experience (see picture, ones with green checkmarks are good, rest you should avoid). We tried multiple sushi restaurants in Oahu at this point, and we had Genki sushi (sushi chain with multiple locations in Oahu) the night before and I would recommend going there instead as quality of sushi is equal and most of the times better than Katsumidori, and you don’t have to wait at all there. I highly appreciate Katsumidori’s serving staff, they were like superheroes doing multiple jobs at the same time, but overall I wouldn’t come back here again.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my friends. I honestly don't know what the names of the dishes were because my friend was treating me to dinner, but it was amaaaaazing. I know it was super expensive, but it was probably the best sushi that I've ever had in my life so far. Everything was so good, except, surprisingly the unagi (eel), it was a bit cold and I would've loved it charred or something because it was like it was boiled. The menu has a huge selection and they also have an electronic tablet that you can place your order as well. Anyways, I know we ordered the different versions of the fatty and normal parts of the ahi, soft shelled crab, red snapper, Tamago (egg), some kind of braised pork belly, Chawanmushi (steamed seafood egg in a cup). We also ordered the Yokozuna platter which had different versions of Ahi,, Salmon Roe (nemo eggs lol), Abalone, Snow Crab, Uni (Sea Urchin and it was sooo good), Tamago (Egg), Sweet Shrimp, Horse Mackerel, Seared Salmon, Scallop, Unagi (Eel), and Ahi Hand Roll. We also ordered the sake drink Born Gold Junmai Daiginjo. Never had this before, but it was delicious and sweet. Staff were super fast and friendly. Lots of parking in their parking garage located just before the valet parking of the Prince Hotel. Make sure you validate your ticket so it's a flat rate of $5. They have lots of the tables to dine on. It's highly recommended to make a reservation as well.

Yelp
My favorite sushi? I think so. I was having a little staycation at Prince Hotel (literally what an amazing hotel) and I decided to grab some lunch. I just checked their hours and decided to head down. I didn't make or need a reservation and was seated immediately. Everything was ordered on a tablet and I was informed of a table time maximum, which I think was 90 minutes? Plenty of time for a solo diner. This sushi was so good I dreamt about it and went back the next day for lunch, AGAIN. I ordered as much as I could and everything came out so quickly after I placed my order on the tablet. The servers would also assist is you needed any help or a refill on a drink too. I ordered: *spicy tuna roll (half) *spicy salmon roll (half) *california roll (half) *avocado tempura *fried shrimp roll *poke poke roll (half) Getting half rolls let me explore more of the menu and I loved that. The quality was so amazing too, presentation- everything was made from the heart. I am salivating while writing this review because I need to go back and have more sushi. You can get pick up orders too and park in valet. They have both lunch and dinner time frames. There is self parking for $5 for 2.5 hours too. The ambiance is really cool and open, I love seeing chefs work too. So lucky of you get seated there! I also got all of that for $45 and for the quality of that sushi and variety?! A win. Definitely my fave spot.

Yelp
Recommend if you enjoy immense quality in the simplicity of flavors. Took some friends here once that only eat spicy tuna rolls and they weren't as pleased, my mistake this establishment is for a more refined palate. Came here for the first time to take my sister out for her birthday last year. This place was sooooo good! I got the chef special with a little bit of everything. It was so tasteful. The cuts of fish are quality. We sat at the bar and the chef standing in front was very kind and offered to help me even with a language barrier. You know it's good if there's a slight language barrier. Snow dungeon miso crab was phenomenal. And they offered me green tea and even that was the best tea I've had. Def felt like I was back in Japan with this spot. Authentic is an understatement.

Yelp
I've been coming to Katsumidori for years. I remember when reservations had to be made months in advance, now it's easier to score one the same week or even the next day. Service is friendly, sometimes hard to get their attention if they're busy. You'll order on the tablet provided on the table. If you're sitting in the back rooms or smaller tables, servers will bring out the sushi themselves. If you're on the large tables in the front, you'll get some orders of sushi on the conveyor belt. I usually opt for ordering a bunch of nigiri as I like to choose the variety fish I want to eat, sometimes ordering duplicates. My friend ordered a set which she enjoyed. Quality of fish is good, it's reflected in the price. I believe the fish is imported straight from Japan but I could be wrong! Pretty reasonably priced spot for fresh sushi.

Yelp
June 2024 visit. Was so looking forward to eating this sushi again after loving it so much over 2 years before during covid. Not sure what happened, maybe take out back then was just better, or it may be that I no longer crave sushi as much, after rediscovering the flavors from poke and loving poke much more now? Either way, was excited to dine in for the first time, and the sushi was still good, but just not as tasty as I remembered. Kinda bland and texture seemed a bit too mushy? The order of tempura also was not good at all, batter was not at all crispy.

Yelp
Some of the best quality sushi I've ever had. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Prices are very reasonable too and they have a very extensive sushi menu. If you don't like raw sushi you need to eat elsewhere as the majority is raw. Some of the sushi comes to your table via the conveyor belt and some by the wait staff. Definitely make a reservation and they really do stick to the 1.5 hour timeframe. They actually came to the table after the first hour so we can put in our last order. You can easily order on the iPad or the wait staff. This restaurant is located in the Prince hotel in Waikiki near the boat dock.

Yelp
Came back for a friends birthday and was very happy with the service. All the sushi I ordered was really good. The scallop basil mayo was a 10/10. Even though it was seared and had sauce on the scallop, you can still taste the quality of it. It had a hint of sweetness and was very tender. I highly recommend it. Overall, I would highly recommend getting any of their sets or anything seared! It's really good. I'll be coming back for sure :)!

Yelp
A delicious little treasure hidden inside the Prince Waikiki hotel. As a local, I tend to shy away from dining in Waikiki but for certain restaurants...this is one of them! Delicious and fresh fish awaits you at Katsu Midori Sushi. Let's knock out the simple logistics: -Reservations recommended -Walk ins are accepted but not guaranteed -Valet Parking ($8 cash), self park (~$2), or self park along the harbor ($1/hour) -attire (seems like as long as you don't show up in beach wear, you'll be ok) There's three areas in this restaurant. One is seating in front of the sushi chefs, 2nd is in the back with the iPads to self order, and 3rd is next to the conveyor belt. They also have a private room with a door for a more private experience. I personally come here o get my otoro fix because it's the best I've had on the island and the tuna deluxe set has a bit of everything. Their salmon set is also super fresh and delicious. For those who love maki rolls, they have the dragon roll which is DELICIOUS by the way! I didn't get a photo to this but trust me, get it and you'll love the presentation and taste. I'm a customer here of 6+ years and I still come back again and again. It's worth it and the prices are reasonable. Plus, free hot tea

Yelp
I was staying nearby at the Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites and saw this sushi restaurant within walking distance. I was celebrating a birthday, so we walked over and arrived right when they opened for dinner at 5 PM to see if we could get seated. The host said there weren't any open seats but offered to put my name down for 8 PM instead if I was willing to return later, which worked out for us. At 8 PM, we were seated promptly and ready to order using the tablet on each table. We ordered the Tokusen set, which came with 11 pieces of sushi and a side dish. It was about $42 and a pretty good value for the quality and portion. I wouldn't say the sushi is premium, but it's better than decent. Overall, it's a good sushi place if you're nearby.

Yelp
Katsumidori is the best affordable place to get the best fish from Japan in a bright and comfortable environment with hard-working people who really care about their customer experience. We moved to California recently but will visit Katsumidori whenever we are back in Honolulu.

Yelp
Katsu Midori is one of my favorite restaurants in Hawaii. The servers are always kind and consistently check in to make sure everything is great. I love how easy it is to order on the iPad and it's pretty straight forward. My go to's would be the delicious flavorful corn, Anago, seared salmon belly, uni, miso cod, and mayo scallops. These fishes are always so fresh and is just a bite of pure bliss. The tuna here is a hit or miss in terms of freshness so I don't order it as much whenever I'm here. I highly recommend a reservation if you plan on dining here since it gets booked up swiftly.

Yelp
Best quality sushi and sashimi with reasonable price. It is def worth the price for its quality. Highly recommend signature sushi set :) you won't get disappointed Sea urchin and grilled fish also nice My son loved the egg custard. If you have kids you can choose this . They also have kids menu which is very sweet It can get bery busy during dinner time. Be sure to make reservations first online to save your waiting time

Yelp
Been here a bunch of times and each time it never disappoints! My go to sushi spot for sure. The food is on point. Fish portions are much bigger than the rice underneath it, and tastes fresh everytime. This time I came here for an anniversary and we had the chef special set as well as the Yokozuna set. Oh and also the crab miso soup where you get half a crab, which almost fell out of the bowl because it was so big. Check out the photos for your viewing pleasure. The ambiance was great. Got to sit right up front at the counter and the sushi chefs were very friendly. It made the entire dining experience more enjoyable. Use open table to book reservations as they fill up fast and walk ins are difficult to accommodate. Check em out at the entrance of Waikiki in the Prince hotel.

Yelp
Katsumidori is tucked inside the Prince Waikiki Hotel. We were lucky enough to snag a same day reservation, Can't comment on parking since we walked, but the location itself is easy to get to. Also think they have parking validation if you park at the hotel itself. Salmon Skin Salad (A-): Crispy, flavorful salmon skin. generous portion too. Great for sharing or just snacking on between bites of sushi. Assorted Sushi Yokozuna (A): 13 pieces plus a hand roll, so definitely a good way to try a variety. The jumbo sea eel stood out--different (large piece and a lighter color) from what we've had before, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Assorted Seared Sushi (A+): Five pieces of perfectly seared goodness. Each one had that slightly smoky, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. We have since gone back multiple times to order just this for takeout. Overall, solid sushi spot with quality cuts and good variety. Worth checking out if you're in the area!

Yelp
While doing a staycation at the Prince hotel, we did not want to go far and didn't feel like a buffet so made a reservation here. The restaurant looks small at first when you enter but there are more tables in the back which is where we sat. Ordering is done either via the tablet at each table or with the servers. I was debating what to get and finally decided to take the plunge and get the Yokozuna which is an assortment of 13 sushi and 1 hand roll. It is almost $50 at the time of this review in February 2025 but it was worth it. I say that because the quality was high and big pieces of fish. If you order dishes ala carte you'll probably end up paying more so just go for it in the beginning and get the Yokozuna. The two standouts were the fatty tuna which was very oily and melted in my mouth, and the eel which was so soft. If anything get those two! Oh I forgot that I started with the arajiru miso soup which had pieces of fish. They use the fish bones and scraps for the stock which tasted great but I had to work a lot to avoid bones. Next time I'll get the clam miso soup which is less work. I decided to treat myself to dessert. Although not Japanese in any way, the Katsu parfait looked good at the time. It is basically Frosted Flakes with ice cream, strawberry, chocolate, and whip cream. Simple but it tasted better than it should! I don't know why, maybe it took me back to childhood and I haven't had Frosted Flakes in a long time. The food came out alarmingly fast after ordering. It was like fast food timing but high end quality. The servers were great and available to give suggestions. This might be my new favorite sushi place on island!

Yelp
Haven't been here in about a year --used to come here all the time because it's near me! Our friends wanted to come here. Service was better in a large group - as was the seating! We had 4 people so we got seated in the front where the sushi gets dropped off for you on a conveyor belt. Press the red button and it magically disappears. They upgraded the iPads too which was a smoother process than I remember. The waitress still came to check on us many times. Much more privacy too. I dislike the 2 seating in the back since you sit too close to people and can hear all the conversations, makes for an awkward dinner sometimes.. I ordered my favorite which is the Deluxe Tuna set. Tuna still was still melt in your mouth good, but I feel like the cuts could have been better. The negitori roll was okay. We got complimentary hot green tea with our meal which was nice. Not the best sushi in town, but is a good choice if you've never been.

Yelp
Like so many locals, we rarely come to Waikiki and we hadn't been to the Hawaii Prince to eat sushi since the Japanese restaurant was still located upstairs. Google tells me that more upscale place was called "Hakone" and it closed in 2016. Whoops. So not only could we not find the place, but we were expecting a totally different restaurant. I knew something was really different when I realized that the cashier (who was very focused on tabulating a big stack of receipts) was also the hostess. We wanted to try out this spot after seeing friends ordering takeout omakase from here during the pandemic. I assumed it was fancy. Anyway, Katsumidori is pretty casual and chill, you order from a tablet, service is no nonsense and quick, food hits the table as it is prepared even if the sequencing doesn't make sense. There's a lot of Japanese food in Honolulu and we didn't think this place stood out in any way. Fish cuts are generous, but for someone like me who eats with his eyes, I was disappointed that some of the plates looked tossed together. My tamago was falling apart. The $40 "All about Salmon" was apparently quite good, seared sushi and tempura plates were fine, the green mini salad was actually delicious, but the negitoro cut roll was really off-putting with a piping of what read like a very fluffy fish mousse on top. Texture eaters will definitely want to stay away from that dish. Valet parking and self parking were also both full so we had to park at the Ilikai and run to the hotel through the rain. Food was not bad, not amazing. I'm sure we just ordered wrong as the reviews here are otherwise pretty strong.

Yelp
If you're craving super authentic Japanese cuisine, Katsumidori Sushi is a must-visit! Their sushi is fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor--exactly what you'd expect from a top-tier Tokyo spot, but right here in Hawaii. The lunch menu is where it's at: amazing combos, generous portions, and prices that won't make your wallet cry. From buttery toro to melt-in-your-mouth salmon, everything tasted top quality. Bonus points for the quick service and sleek, modern interior. Pro tip: go early or be ready to wait or try to make a reservation

Yelp
The concept for Katsu Midori Sushi per its brochure is fresh and high quality at reasonable prices with excellent service in a comfortable and casual dining setting. I believe they hit all those points during my recent dining experience. It's probably important to keep that in mind because expectations might be high as this place is located in the 4-star Prince Waikiki hotel. Self-parking in the garage is $5 for 2.5 hours, and $10 for valet. This place is to the right from the main lobby entrance. Look for the sign on the wall. Dinner starts at 5pm, and that's when they also start seating people. You are limited to 90 minutes for your meal, which starts right at 5pm (not when you sit down). The inside is somewhat small. There's the bar seating area with individual tables for larger parties (4+) across, and a dining area in a separate room. We sat in the separate dining area, and you don't feel the atmosphere or the vibe of the place. You see wall, ceiling, and window curtain. Feels generic and basic. A nice touch is using a tablet to place your order, but you can only order a total of exactly TEN items at a time, so ordering ala carte items such as single nigiris, hand rolls, drinks, and etc., you will to order multiple times... Didn't know that at first...and I ordered plenty of items on the first go. Frustrating when you spend a good amount of precious time deciding and choosing only to delete most of it, and then needing to redo it again. One of the things I wanted to try was the Katsu Sea Eel Ippon, but it ended up in disappointment. I was expecting it to be warm since the description says "slow COOKED", but it turned out to be cold, and also noted "plenty of sauce", which was less than "plenty". Due to the coldness, the meat was more firm than soft and tender, and mostly tasteless. It really needed the sauce. It needed PLENTY of sauce. Pass. There was a block of rice underneath, but it's really for show. The Arajiru (Miso Soup made with Fish Stock) was decent. You get a nice sized bowl filled with fish bones. The soup was simple and clean. It had a strong fish flavor than Miso, but still light. The Seared Salmon with Miso was okay. The fire might've been too low or too far away or too fast, so the sear was subpar with minimal char. The salmon was fresh and good. Miso paste was all right. The Assorted Tempura was all right - consisted of shrimp, shiitake mushroom, shiso, bell pepper, squash, pumpkin, avocado. All fried and battered okay. Tempura sauce was good. Ordering sets may be what Katsu Midori wants you to do with the 10 items ordering limit, but this might be the best deal. It can be sharable, but almost all the items are just 1 each. We went with the Ozeki set - consisted of Negitoro Roll (6), Ikura, Uni, Hotate, Salmon, Hamachi, Medium Fatty Maguro (2), Unagi, Amaebi, Tamago, and Kazunoko. I appreciated the more authentic style with thicker and long slices of fish and seafood on the nigiri. Everything was fresh enough, but nothing really stood out as in terms of quality and clean taste. My biggest issue was the rice. Seasoned okay, but it was loose and falls apart easily when picked up with your chopstick, so that sort of killed the experience. The advertised Maguro from Japanese was quite so-so. Not feeling satisfied I added on the Snow Crab, Rock Cod from Shinjuku, and Special Sea Urchin. Snow crab was okay. Not sweet, not much taste, plus the loose rice. Rock Cod was decent. Nice firm flesh with a scorched skin. This had a nice char and smokiness. Special sea urchin was from Hokkaido, which I immediately knew. I don't think I can be satisfied with any other Uni from now on. Overall, I can't say it was bad or good, it was just a very basic meal. This was for my anniversary too, which was noted in my OpenTable reservation, but no one said a word. I was expecting more given the location, the reviews, and the photos. The fish and seafood were fresh and sliced nicely, but the loose rice, soft seaweed, and overall quality of fish was just a-ok. Not sure why that is. Everything was just lacking that clean, sweet, fresh, briny taste. Someone said this place was like a fancy Genki sans the conveyor belt, which might be spot on. Also, not a fan of limiting to 10 items per order, and time starts at your reservation time, and not when you first sit, or when you start to browse the tablet. The service was good. Food came out relatively quick. Don't think I'll come back any time soon.

Yelp
Made reservations a month out for dinner time. They had Tokusen 11 pcs sushi plate which offered nice menu items, see photo for items. Fast/nice service and reasonable prices. Otoro and ama ebi were great. Their anago nigiri is more like 3 servings of sushi.

Yelp
I made a reservation the evening I landed, and I'm glad I did. I went to Japan twice this year and this spot is on par with the spots there. I got the chef's choice (special) and it was delicious. The quality was amazing. I wish I could have ate and tried more. It's definitely a spot where you want to try many dishes if you can. It is located inside the Prince Waikiki hotel. Service was great and attentive. You need a reservation for this place, and I recommend sitting at the counter to watch the sushi chefs if you can.

Yelp
It's been a long time since my first review of this restaurant and it is still consistently one of my go to sushi restaurants. It's a good combination of good service, good food and decent prices. They are very popular though so it is often booked a month out, but once in a while you can snag a last minute reservation on open table. It's located in the Prince hotel. There is valet, self parking, and some street parking available. The food is always so good and fish always tastes fresh. I have never had a bad meal here. The prices have definitely increased from the first time but it's still very reasonable given how everything was gotten most expensive now a days. The service was quick and attentive and our waiter was very friendly. If you like a variety of sushi they have great premade sets or you can pick and choose. The Yokazuna is always a good choice and has enough from most people to share. I love the portions sizes especially of the salmon belly. I definitely recommend coming here for all sushi or seafood lovers.

Yelp
Do not wait to secure a reservation! This place is popular and now I know why- reasonably priced, great variety of fresh sushi provided with excellent service. My family was promptly seated and they were very accommodating of my little one sleeping in a stroller. Ordering is easy through the provided tablet. There's plenty of pictures so it's very user friendly. The $8 keiki (kid's) special was a hit for my son. We tried a variety of sushi and sashimi and were most happy with their fatty tuna. It just melts in your mouth. We will definitely come again the next time we are in town.

Yelp
Always enjoy coming here. Not our first time. Came here a couple of times and never disappoints me! Great price for sushi and different variety as well! We came around 1:20pm so we had to order a lot before last call (1:45pm) We ordered a bunch of sushi and it was all amazing! We ordered enough to make our stomachs full! The uni was good and there was a lot of uni inside the sushi! For $7.50 a piece it was worth it! Not much places put a lot of uni inside the sushi so I was surprised how much it came over here! Would definitely come back for sure!

Yelp
Katsumidori Sushi is simple exquisite! My first visit was YEARS ago and I dined in on the other side of the restaurant where there's regular seatings, but still had the tablet to order food. This time, I sat in the front area where the sushi/sashimi is delivered on a conveyor belt! It was quite an experience. There's only one dish that goes out to the tables so be sure to press the button behind the tablet to send the dish back to the food prep area. There's a 90 minute limit, so eat wisely, but not too fast! My friend ordered a variety of food - Deluxe Tuna Nigiri and Roll, butterfish, three tuna nigiri, spicy tuna roll, and salmon skin roll. Everything tasted and prepared perfect! We wanted to eat more, but our tummy said nope. I ordered the Arajiru - miso soup with fish stock. The broth was very good - fresh fish stock. With fresh fish stock comes with fish bones with meat. The soup had lots of tiny bones on the bottom of the bowl so I wouldn't recommend this to a young child. BONUS: I had two fish eyes! I was so happy :) Thank you for making my maguro dreams come true!

Yelp
Very fresh and delicious. The 10 piece all salmon was good. The place is small inside but it was not a long wait.

Yelp
Katsumidotri Sushi is a Japanese sushi chain inside the Prince Waikiki hotel. I had heard a bit about it being high tech, with a conveyer belt, and ordering screens, but ultimately, all of that went by the wayside. Our table was off the main dining room so we didn't have a conveyer belt. We were also bad at the touch screen ordering system so the waitress took our order the old fashioned way. That said, the menu is massive. There are sushi sets which are indeed well priced. There is also traditional nigiri and sashimi, appetizers, some hot dishes. So much looked enticing that we certainly overordered. We had a huge plate of salmon nigiri , loved the variety of the sets, got some basics like agedashi tofu, edamame, and splurged on some fatty tuna rolls and engawa. The quality was fresh and that's all you can ask for in sushi.

Yelp
This is a must try sushi spot when I'm in Waikiki. It's on the edge of the Waikiki strip, but I usually stay closer to the luxury shopping side, so it's only about a 15 minute walk. It's located inside the Prince Hotel. You must make reservations. There was a time that I was turned away because the restaurant was fully booked, and there was no walk-in service. All their fish is super fresh, and near omakase quality. I love to get their signature with pretty much a bite of everything. They also have a golden handroll with toro, uni, ikura, and gold flakes. This is probably the best bite of my entire meal. They have a 90 minute dining time limit, but it's usually not a problem. You order off a tablet, and your food comes fast. My wife and I are usually in and out in under 1 hour. They validate parking too, and if you go upstairs in the hotel, there's an awesome view of the harbor. I've been here several times, and will continue to come back every time I'm in Waikiki.

Yelp
Came to celebrate a birthday and the sushi was so good. I love getting the ahi plate with chutoro and otoro so I can try different cuts. The miso salmon roll was also really good and great for salmon lovers like me. The tempura was also pretty good and had a different mix of veggies and fish and shrimp. Also had some individual nigiri pieces which were really good too. Overall I feel like the quality here is consistent which is good but nothing that blows me away. The price is decent though. Got lucky with street parking and made a reservation about a week in advance. Only thing I didn't like was that we were seated so close to other tables that we could hear their conversation and it was like we were all sitting next to each other. Would prefer to have the back tables for 2 separated more for more privacy.

Yelp
Awesome-sauce! My friend wanted to do lunch, and Katsumidori Sushi was the place of choice yesterday. Where is Katsumidori Sushi located? If you know where the Prince Hotel in Waikiki is, this nice Japanese restaurant is located inside of the hotel (lobby level). Just look for the signs within the hotel lobby to guide you to Katsumidori Sushi, as the restaurant is kinda hidden within the hotel. Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated window-side, so I didn't get a good look within the entire restaurant, but I had the impression that the restaurant wasn't all that spacious. After being seated, we were greeted right away, and glasses of water were dropped off at our table. Menu's were not needed, as at every table, there was an electronic tablet that you used to place your food order. After looking over the electronic menu, I decided to get the lunch special of the Eel Box - which consisted of fresh water Eel on a bed of fluffy rice, salad, soup, & chawanmushi (Japanese steamed custard). My friend, I believe, ordered the Chirashi Bowl, which also came with a soup, salad, & chawanmushi. The verdict? Impeccable service, & tasty Japanese grub! What more can you ask for??? Hopefully, I'll come back here soon, as I wanna try the dinner menu one day.

Yelp
I've been to Katsumidori a few times after the end of the pandemic and although the food is still good, the price has been steadily increasing but quality has somewhat gone down. The combination nigiri platters are still good but some of the pieces don't taste as fresh. The lunch special is pretty good but on the pricier side.

Yelp
One of the BEEST sushi experiences I've had!! This restaurant was probably one of the highlights of my recent Hawaii trip. My sister and I arrived about 20-30 minutes before they opened (even though we had a reservation haha) and the place was already starting to get busy with patrons waiting for them to open. Fortunately, we were seated right away! We got the Yokozuna set ($50 pp) which came with fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, yellowtail, salmon roe, abalone, crab, sea urchin, egg, shrimp, mackerel, salmon, scallop, eel, and a negitoro hand roll. This was SOOO worth it! My favorites were the negitoro hand roll, fatty tuna, and uni (a special shoutout to the egg too lol). All of the fish was super fresh and rich in flavor. We also got an order of uni in the shell since they were offering a special for it ($11 ea). Servers were super friendly and attentive, and I loved the convenience of ordering on an iPad! Would definitely recommend visiting and booking a reservation ahead of time :)

Yelp
Katsumidori is an elevated sushi restaurant that you can order via iPad. This was my second time here and the quality was just as good this time. The restaurant is inside the Prince Waikiki hotel, so make sure you add extra time to find the restaurant. Everything we ordered was fresh and extremely high quality. The staff were very kind and I would definitely come back the next time I am in town. The maguro yamakake is a bit chunkier than I prefer but other than that, it was a perfect meal. Some of our favorites were the engawa, hotate, amaebi, uni, and the seared salmon with miso.

Yelp
Ambiance: Located at the Prince Hotel in Waikiki. Service: Always friendly and accommodating. Be patient and order on the digital pad. Server will bring water and tea. Food: always fresh sushi. Quality food and ingredients. Feels like you're in Japan. We always try to eat here when we walk to Ala Moana from Waikiki.

Yelp
Service wouldn't seat. And did not even want to welcome hungry business. Hours are misleading so if they honored the time maybe 4 stars.

Yelp
Katsumidori is our go-to place for good quality, moderately priced sushi (however, must make reservations in advance)! I used to order the Yokozuna which has a variety of nigiri sushi and a negitoro hand roll, but I was smitten by the deluxe tuna nigiri and roll option! It includes chuutoro, ootoro, and negitoro. If you love tuna and are ok not trying other sushi, that's the choice!

Yelp
This restaurant just made O'ahu my husband's favorite island! The sushi here is sooo good and it reminded me of Japan! The pricing is pretty good for the amount and quality of food you get. Servers were very attentive and it's nice you get to see pictures and orders from the tablet at the table. This will definitely in our rotation to go on every trip.

Yelp
I love that Katsumidori always provides the freshest of seafood! I love their sushi sets as they are definitely worth your money. You get to try a variety of their sushi depending on which set you've selected. I highly recommend getting their Yokozuna set and seared saba. For you tamago lovers out there, this is the spot for it! Katsumidori is located inside the Prince Waikiki. I've always had trouble getting a table/making reservations as they're always booked out when I call. I got super lucky being able to snag a table as a walk in! The staff is also so welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was super nice! The restaurant offers both table and bar seating. Their ordering system is through a tablet. A conveyor machine will deliver you the smaller dishes to you, while your waiter will stop by to deliver larger sets, and/or water, utensils, and ginger.

Yelp
Love this Japanese restaurant. Food was so good and delicious. Sushi was so fresh and the rice was small. Eel was so juicy and the sauce was good. First time here very satisfied with them. Definitely will come back next time when I'm in Oahu. Totally recommended

Yelp
Jamie W. and I have enjoyed our various stays at the Prince Waikiki Hotel near Ala Moana, but we never tried any of the in-house restaurants before dining at this popular sushi spot. We had to make reservations way in advance like a couple of months. Seriously. Was it worth the wait? Well, the variety of offerings was impressive. It just wasn't quite as transcendent as we hoped. All our ordering was done through a huge tablet, so there was little human interaction. We started with the $43.75 Ozeki Sushi Set, quite a fresh platter of eleven pieces plus a roll (photo: https://yelp.to/m8UWJBlUAe). This was followed by two hearty dishes, the $5 trio of crispy Shishamo Tempura (photo: https://yelp.to/kEAJrQhLST) and the generous size $13.75 Katsu Sea Eel Ippon (photo: https://yelp.to/geFGXl3oGs). Both were reasonably tasty. We had a little soup at this point, the slightly salty $5.50 Little Neck Clam Soup (photo: https://yelp.to/FzaDCH5udL), followed by a fresh $7.50 piece of Sea Urchin Gunkan (photo: https://yelp.to/vQWs2zfNBt). We concluded our feast with the $15.50 Assorted Tempura - yes, more tempura (photo: https://yelp.to/lxOGHjnEtJ) and the $23 Grilled Whole Squid complete with dipping sauces (photo: https://yelp.to/_saDCQWpxe). Yes, we was stuffed. Don't judge us. We were on vacation. FOOD - 4 stars...quite an array of Japanese food with the sushi and squid at the top AMBIANCE - 3 stars...honestly felt a bit squeezed in despite the advance reservation SERVICE - 3.5 stars...efficient service even if the tablet took most of the credit TOTAL - 4 stars...solid Japanese cuisine that could've used a more personal touch RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Yelp
Anticipate sushi bar table seating but although reservation is needed but bar seating is first come first served. I'm the first to arrive 1/2 hour before opening but didn't wait in line for it :(. All Sashami are fresh and delicious. Can't dine in without cold Sake ! Must have . Great attentive service . Restaurant inside Prince Waikiki Hotel lobby . Not bad for the price , I thought the bill will be double for what we ordered . Kubota sake along is $150 .

Yelp
Service was great, quick, and friendly. Had Mother's Day dinner and my husband and I both agree this has been by far our favorite sushi spot so far. As for price wise I want to say it was not bad at all. I honestly thought we were going to spend more because we just kept ordering. We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
About a 1-1.5: Katsumidori is located at the Prince, and they offer a lunch, dinner, and a to-go menu. They have the popular sushi conveyer belt, but we opted for the counter seating to order off the menu. We had: +the Yokozuna - this came with 13 pieces of nigiri and a handroll, which included fatty tuna, yellowtail, medium fatty tuna, salmon, roe, abalone, crab, sea urchin, egg, sweet shrimp, horse mackerel, seared salmon, scallop, jumbo sea eel, and a negitoro hand roll +the Deluxe Tuna Nigiri and Roll - this came with 3 pieces of fatty tuna, 4 pieces of medium fatty tuna, and a negitoro roll +and, an Assorted Seared Sushi - came with 5 nigiris of seared fatty una, seared scallop, seared salmon with miso, seared white fish, and shrimp mayonnise Everything was presented well, but we tasted the fishy-ness in the items, so it was super disappointing; it was a bit too odorous and pungent, and we really couldn't enjoy them; the seared ones was slightly better, due to its sear, but not by much. Staff were friendly, and reservations are easy to make online. +fishy sushi +friendly service +online reservations accepted

Yelp
We did a staycation at the Prince Waikiki, and several people told us how they enjoyed the food at Katsumidori Sushi. Since we love Japanese food, especially sushi, we had to check it out. Now we know why they like it! All the dishes we tried were good. The portions were also adequate, more than you would expect for a restaurant in a 4-5 star hotel. We started off with the mini salad, which was a nice combination of veggies and a tasty dressing, not too sweet or tangy. Then we shared the Little Neck Clam soup. It came in a bowl bigger than the one the miso soup usually comes in at a Japanese restaurant. There were 6 clams in the shell and was delicious. For entrees; we had a Seared Salmon w/ Miso roll, Garlic Shrimp roll, and assorted tempura that included two shrimp, assorted veggies & avocado. Yes, avocado tempura. I never had it before but was pleasantly surprised. Both sushi's tasted fresh with a nice mix of ingredients on both. The salmon roll was my favorite! For dessert, we had the Anmitsu ice cream and a scoop of the ice cream of the day, honey custard. The desserts were a delicious way to end the meal. All this and the bill came out to $70. The service was great! It was a little difficult to maneuver the iPad menu, so our server brought over a hard copy and gladly took our orders. I'll definitely come back here!

Yelp
I hate leaving bad reviews, but when you pay for miso butterfish and you get this are you kidding me? We chose to eat here on our first night in Hawaii after seeing the good reviews and chose to take out since we were tired from our flight and wanted a low key dinner. We were shocked when we came to open the box and the butterfish literally looked like one piece of sashimi you would find on one piece of nigiri. We also got fries and karaage and those were fine but that's CRAZY to me that this is the portion size... What a disappointment.

Yelp
I came here at the recommendation of a long-time local, so I had high expectations and Katsumidori definitely met them! If you're looking for a step up from casual sushi but don't want to pay $$$ for omakase or take 2-3 hours to eat a meal, Katsumidori is a delicious, authentic experience that's worth it. You can easily make a reservation through OpenTable but make sure you plan ahead because they can go fast. The ambiance is similar to a casual Japanese sushi eatery, with a sushi bar in the front and several tables of varying sizes tucked into little booths. You can order off the tablets at the tables or also ask for a menu with nice photos to order with your server. Food comes really fast and is freshly prepared. Our server was really attentive, friendly, and quick. The food is quite good! I would say compared to other less authentic sushi restaurants in this price range, Katsumidori excels at having fresh fish options (including tuna flow in from Japan!) and lots of variety on their menu, especially their different meal sets. If you're not feeling raw fish, they also have a variety of more Americanized sushi rolls and cooked options, like miso butterfish, fried foods, and salads. Also, their portion sizes felt quite large! Each piece of fish often was overhanging the rice beneath by quite a bit (esp their freshwater eel) which was a great bang for the buck. We tried their Yokozuna meal set (13 pc nigiri + negi toro handroll), the Katsu Gozen (5 pc nigiri, tempura, salad, egg custard, clams, and poke) plus a negi toro roll. Both sets had very nice presentation and variety. The fish was all fresh and the fattier cuts melted in the mouth. My favorites were the medium fatty tuna and the seared salmon. The chawanmushi was especially tender and full of seafood/umami flavor. The tempura was airy, crisp, and I liked the variety of items (shiso leaf, pumpkin squash, mushroom, shrimp etc). The sesam oil ahi poke was a nice Hawaiian touch, too! The one thing I think could be done better is their rice. The taste was good, but the shaping of the nigiri rolls was a bit loose, and sometimes they rice beneath the fish would fall apart. Also I'm personally not a huge fan of the super blended negi toro, I like a bit more texture in it, but that's just personal preference. Overall, can't wait to come back! It's my new favorite casual sushi spot on the island!

Yelp
Such a good place for sushi! Would suggest getting a sushi/sashimi set, and its good to share. The fish is always fresh, and food comes out fairly quickly. It is a little pricey- nice to go for a special occasion. Alsoo for those who are not tech savy- would primarily order through an ipad, but you can request to order through the server. I would recommend making a reservation as they almost always have a wait. Parking is $10 through valet (even with validation).

Yelp
Good japanese food and the quality of the food that they serve here are always fresh. I keep coming on this restaurant.
