Katsuya Westfield Century City - Review - Century City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Katsuya, the sushi chain known for spicy tuna crispy rice and clubby energy, opened its fourth location in Westfield Century City. There’s a massive, plant-filled patio that looks like a tropical rainforest, plus a weekday lunch prix fixe with options like chirashi bowls and short rib fried rice. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists. RESERVE A TABLE" - Cathy Park

Everything was so good. The mushrooms are a must order. The classic crispy rice of course. And whatever sushi you like. Service was amazing.

Came during the soft opening. They didn’t have my reservation in the system, I called an hour before and the staff seemed confused. Took about 10-15 mins for them to figure it out. The internet and system was down, staff had to use their person hot spot to keep things functioning. Food was decent, service was good. A bit pricey for what you get. Presentation was nice. Sushi quality could be better for the price, nothing was super unique & special. Steak was leaning towards the well done side, hard to chew and tough. Desserts were interesting but underwhelming for the price.

The restaurant feels chic and modern, with a sleek interior that fits right in with the buzz of Century City and opened lately. Signature dishes like the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the yellowtail jalapeño are definite standouts, (honestly I don’t know what is the big deal?! Those dishes are popular everywhere) The cocktails are equally stylish but Nothing really special actually. Not bad, just basic. Prices lean on the higher side. I hate I just ordered a little bit more and the price went as high as a Michelin-star restaurant when i checked out, which really was out of my expectation. Highly think it is not worth a Michelin-star ‘s price. So be careful of the price, some are overpriced. Overall, A so-so place. Not considering to go again. Good to just experience once. Summer time, I just wanna get cold and light dishes with beautiful cocktails. Not too bad, it is just overpriced for some dishes like bronzino. I could get the same quality with a much better price. Just wanna relax to eat in a so-so restaurant but still can not relax with the human trap in a business world. Tips: remember to check your bill because the mistakes that happened a few times during my dining. For example: the busboy sent a wrong dish to our table at least 2 times, and accidentally charged the item I did not order. Once again::: pricey pricey and be careful of hidden fee 5% of wellness blah if you did not pay attention. It is not about money. It is because it is not worth it. The service is messy too. Nothing special here but overpriced.

Such a beautiful restaurant! The sushi was perfect, and the food overall was cooked to perfection. We experienced a small issue during the soft opening with a last-minute cancellation, but we were finally able to try it out—and we were not disappointed. Definitely going back soon!

This restaurant is truly a unique experience. The food is absolutely delicious and the presentation stellar. Every dish we ate was phenomenal. Chef Dayag outdid himself! The stuffed king crab legs were outstanding! Even the Filet Mignon was beyond the typical. The Sashimi to die for and their signature rolls fresh and tasty. I absolutely give this restaurant my highest recommendation. Look forward to experiencing it again!

Everything was absolutely amazing! From the moment I walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. Every dish I tried was full of flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. You can really tell they put love into their food. I genuinely enjoyed every bite and can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend!

Google
Incredible first lunch service at Katsuya in Century City. Dom is an AMAZING server! The food was spectacular. The Burning Mandarin is so good. Happy to see this open. We will be back many many times.

Just happen to walk in for lunch and they were very accommodating and were able to squeeze us in, management was not only professional but very nice to us. The presentation of the items we ordered was fantastic. We truly enjoyed ourselves. We will be back!

Yelp
The vibe inside is modern and upscale, but still relaxed. We started with the crispy rice with spicy tuna (a favorite for a reason!), and everything after that just kept getting better. The chef's special of the night was a beautifully plated toro sashimi with truffle ponzu--it was rich, delicate, and absolutely delicious. You can tell the chef puts a lot of thought and care into the presentation and balance of flavors. We also had the baked crab hand roll (a must) and the miso-marinated black cod, which was perfectly cooked and practically melted in our mouths. Drinks were spot-on, and the staff overall was attentive but not overbearing. The server checked in at just the right times and offered great recommendations without rushing us. This place is definitely a go-to for sushi lovers or anyone looking to treat themselves. From the service to the food, everything felt polished but comfortable.

Yelp
Worst $250 We've Ever Spent. New Katsuya at Century City? Never again. At 6 PM, Branzino was already sold out. Chef refused a simple baked salmon roll request. Hot tea came late, was tasteless, and looked like dirty dishwater. Ginger took four requests to arrive. Food disasters: cold maitake mushrooms, undercooked salmon, off-tasting seaweed salad, missing Brussels sprouts, shishito peppers and edamame so spicy they were inedible, and "vegetarian rolls" so skimpy you'd need a microscope to find the veggies. Our server was nice but overwhelmed. The manager promised to "take care of us" -- which meant comping one dessert for five adults. Bill? $250 for an abysmal meal, plus an extra 5% "healthcare" fee, no parking validation, and zero real apology. This was highway robbery disguised as dinner. Spare yourself the anger and disappointment -- go literally anywhere else.

Yelp
Subpar, Subpar, Subpar! Came here for what I thought would be a quick lunch which ended up being a 2+ hour experience. Firstly, I was told by the server that the menu was identical to Brentwood, Encino ETC.. Cool. I began with ordering the staple dishes Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, Albacore Sashimi Crispy Onion, Yellow tail jalapeño. Everything came out within the first 25-30 mins (Still a bit longer than I expected being that the restaurant was quite empty for a Sunday at 5:30 PM) But regardless, the sashimi was very tasty (1 Star is strictly for the Sashimi) the spicy tuna crispy rice that we all know and love, not so much. It had a weird consistency and the rice was hard. We then proceeded to order the most basic cut rolls, Spicy Salmon + Spicy Tuna cut rolls. This is the moment things took a turn for the worse. It took about 50 minutes for us to get our two cut rolls. When they arrived they were not only sub-par to the Katsuya standards that we all are familiar with, but they also weren't even SPICY, even after we asked for them to be EXTRA spicy. My wife & I were still hungry, so we proceeded to ask our server how long it would take for four hand rolls. He mentioned 15 minutes, so we were on board. This then took about 15-20 minutes, no problem. The hand rolls to our surprise were actually enjoyable and tasted quite similar to the other Katsuya locations, but again not SPICY. We then asked for the bill and finally once it arrived we were in a total shock. $237?!? Upon taking a closer look we were charged for a cut roll that we did not order, okay no big deal the server quickly took it off our bill and handed us a new one. Now after thoroughly inspecting the bill for a second time, I noticed that they charge DOUBLE ($16) the price for generic cut rolls that are normally ($8) at every other Katsuya including Brentwood, I also noticed that they charge the same price for both handrolls & cut rolls. This did not make any sense to me as handrolls are much smaller than cut rolls. As I was about to pay my bill I noticed they also charge you a 5% wellness fee which was not mentioned by the server when he brought the bill (Kind of sneaky in my opinion). Furthermore, on their website they offer a $50 off your bill if you spend $150+ with InKind, when I attempted to redeem this at the restaurant they denied the promotion stating that it would only be in effect next week. Why offer a promotion if you can't even use it? Meanwhile, while all of this was happening, the table that was sitting next to us was expressing the outrageous pricing of the restaurant between themselves and eventually they got up and left without ordering anything (Honestly what my partner and I should have done as well) I brought all of this to the attention of my server and he seemed a little bit lost for words, so I suggested for the manager to be called over. I essentially expressed everything to her and she did seem quite understanding. She ended up taking our bill and saying "she will make things fair" Upon returning our bill she provided us with a 10% discount. Moral of the story, this place will not last a very long time with these outrageous prices, and long wait times for food. The people who are shopping inside of the Century City mall and are looking for a quick Sushi lunch expecting to pay normal Katsuya prices are in for a surprise. DEFINITELY NOT COMING BACK!

Yelp
No service The food was very fishy Loud music I wouldn't recommend it. It was my wedding anniversary. Cost $300+ for 3 people. We ended up leaving hungry.

Yelp
We truly had a wonderful dinner here tonight. This absolutely has to become the flagship restaurant for the sbe company, here in Century City! The team of Zachary and Forest were fantastic together. They provided excellent service. The espresso martini was amazing and obviously you can't go wrong with Hibiki Harmony Needs. The black card is fantastic, and the brussels sprouts are "die for." Don't forget the Toro sashimi and the yellowtail jalapeño. You can thank me later

Yelp
Honestly, I was a little disappointed by the food. They have a lunch prefix, which is pretty good and substantial, depending on what you choose. They also have other set menus, which have some of their most famous dishes. I was mainly disappointed because the food just wasn't that good - the yellowtail lacks flavor, crispy tuna lacks flavor, the chicken karage lacks flavor. The short rib is too salty. The broccolini is too salty. The rocky shrimp and brussel sprouts were good enough. The Japanese Caesar salad is good but that dressing is too much. Spicy edamame is good. Miso cod is good. Crab hand roll might be best thing on the menu. The miso soup tastes basic. If you sum this up = at most 2.5 out of 5. The ambience is great. The music is great. The service is fantastic. If only if the food could meet them halfway, then I think I would be able to enjoy my meals more.

Yelp
From the moment we walked in, things felt off. The greeting was cold, and the energy just didn't feel welcoming. We were seated on the patio, which looked much better in photos where in reality, it was cramped, awkwardly laid out, and lacking any real atmosphere. I wish they walked into Javier's and saw what a good indoor looks like :/ Menus were dropped on the floor, check took forever, water was poured carelessly, spilling over the edge more than once. Our server seemed overwhelmed or checked out, and the whole team looked like they were scrambling. It felt chaotic, not intentional. Btw it wasn't peak hour either - place is 40% full. At one point we were even brought the wrong food, and no one really explained what was happening. The sushi itself was just okay - not memorable, not worth the price. Why is sushi coming out with ginger and wasabi in each bite. And definitely not the kind of place you'd come back to for a special meal. It's the kind of spot where you can tell a lot of money went into the brand, but not enough into the experience. Compare this to somewhere like Uchi's -- where the vibe is calm, thoughtful, and each dish is explained as it comes out. You feel taken care of there. At Katsuya, it felt like survival mode. Honestly, a missed opportunity. Great branding, great location, but it doesn't add up to anything meaningful. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Katsuya... more like Crapsuya The sushi is sub par and I've had much better sushi in smaller restaurants in Los Angeles. The crispy tuna rice or their "OG" is overplayed too. This isn't a critique on the chefs more so on the quality and ingenuity.

Yelp
Just open a few days sharing an open air space/bar area with Casa Dani that is dog friendly. I enjoyed the trio empanadas that were tasty but possibly mild underfilled with a nice green sauce and edamame garlic with a sweet spicy sauce, excellent with a glass of Proseco sitting on a comfortable sofa. I hope they will offer more menu items in this area in the future

Yelp

Yelp
We had such a great experience at Katsuya Century City, and a huge part of that was thanks to Kariza and Ozzy. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. They were both incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely made sure everything was perfect throughout the night. The space itself is absolutely beautiful -- super spacious, modern, and has this elevated vibe that honestly makes you feel like you're on vacation. It's one of those restaurants where the atmosphere alone makes the night feel special. The food and drinks were amazing -- everything we tried was so flavorful and well put together -- but what really stood out was the service. Every single person who came to the table was so kind, respectful, and on point. The whole staff was quick, attentive, and just had great energy all around. Kariza and Ozzy went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. You can tell they really care about the guest experience and take pride in what they do. We truly can't thank them enough for making our night so special. It makes such a difference when you're being hosted by people who genuinely care -- and they do. Their attention to detail, the way they checked in on us, and how warm and accommodating they were really elevated the whole experience. Truly such a great night. Definitely recommend. Won't disappoint and can't wait to go back soon!

Yelp
Food was super mid and paying top tier pricing. I can't think of any reason I would ever eat here instead of Nobu. Even the weho Nobu. Or spago the food is amazing. Even Mastros. This place left us very disappointed with a large bill. Service was okay nothing great not terrible. Ambiance is good. Overall: hard pass. It's LA , step your game up, there's a million better options any day of the week.

Yelp
First, I'd like to compliment our waiter -- he was truly wonderful. He worked very hard, was kind, attentive, and did everything he could to make our experience better. Unfortunately, several other aspects of our visit were disappointing. Despite having an 8 p.m. reservation, we were made to wait, and then seated outside on the veranda, even though the dining room was nearly empty. It was very cold, and when I asked for a heater, I was told they weren't working yet due to no permit from fire department. This made the experience quite uncomfortable. The hostess who greeted and seated us came across as inattentive and rude, which set a negative tone. Food-wise: the Wagyu steak was good (though a little fatty) and the edamame was also good. My smoked salmon sushi, however, was just okay -- I've honestly had better quality and portion size at Whole Foods. My mineral water was taken away and cleared while it was still half full, which felt careless. Lastly, we noticed a 5% "wellness fee" on the check. While it was removed when requested, it felt a bit misleading to have to catch it on the receipt. Overall, the location is beautiful, but between the seating situation, inattentive greeting, and overpriced food, it didn't meet expectations. We gave it a try but unfortunately won't be returning. I hope this feedback helps your team improve.

Yelp
Tried Katsuya for the first time and was really impressed. The crispy rice is a standout--perfectly crunchy on the outside and packed with flavor. The overall menu feels fresh and well thought out, and the atmosphere makes it a place I'd definitely return to. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes.

Yelp
Came for a birthday celebration and t he food was delicious, the atmosphere was very welcoming and our server was so sweet and made sure to check on us throughout the night

Yelp
The ambience and food was great! Highly recommend! A great vibe. Everyone was was very welcoming and friendly

Nicole S.

Yelp
Wow! What a disappointment! We started the dinner being told they had no hot saki, food was average, the place looked empty and they tried to charge a 5% employee wellness fee that no one will ever notice because it is at the bottom of your receipt as seen here. Such a scam. But to make things better, we spent over $350 and they don't validate your parking ticket. So tacky!

Yasmin A.

Yelp
10/10 experience at this restaurant, thanks to Kariza and Ozzy. The ambiance is beautiful/spacious and the food/drinks were absolutely amazing. The service was also excellent. A great addition to century city. I'd highly recommend!

Yelp
Cool concept and clean vibe. The place looks great and shares the space with another restaurant, which gives it a modern, open feel. I sat at the bar, and while it was hard to flag down a server, the sushi chef was super kind and took care of me directly. He made my order on the spot, which I really appreciated. That said, I wasn't a fan of the crispy spicy tuna--the flavor reminded me of butter or dairy, which threw me off. Ended up canceling the tuna roll because of it. Everything looked fresh and well-made, and the bar setup is beautiful, but the taste just wasn't for me this time.

Yelp
Such a gorgeous space, and incredible service. Mars talked to our table and made sure we had an amazing evening, she and the whole staff were great! Highly recommend for an evening out!

Hello G.

Yelp
Oh my oh my! Where should I start? I went there with 4 friends to celebrate my Bday and I was expecting an amazing dinner! But we all got very disappointed... nobody drank alcohol and we left hungry ... our bill: $ 870.00... (no dessert and no alcohol).... Everyone was disappointed! Every single piece of sushi was small, tasteless and over 30,00... we paid only single sushi roll: $60.00 ... the tuna tarts they show on their add ... is completely different than the photo... so small u can't even see on ur plate ... $30,00.... Everything u ask is so small and so expensive.. we kept going without realizing that our bill was going to be astronomical and so disappointing.... We left and literally went to "in and out"... I was so sad to celebrate my birthday in a restaurant that I was expecting so much and got so little .. the only thing big was the BILL! My sister told them it was my bday and they forgot to bring a complimentary dessert! Bad service and bad food and we saw the prices of the alcohol if we had had alcohol... we can't imagine the price of our bill....
