Katzenjammers

Came here at 6:30 pm Friday night looking for classic German food and good pub vibes. First thoughts were that this felt like walking into underground bunker rather than a lively German tavern. There were 4 young staff members at the the bar, but none came up to us to explain how to order or whether to order at the bar. Service was unfriendly but food, beer and prices were excellent. Paprikawurst and bratwurst were my favorite. Pretzels were also pretty great. Would like to come back on a busier night or a night with better vibes.

Delicious food, especially the small sausage platter, with the sauerkraut. Very friendly service. We enjoyed the quiet afternoon atmosphere, before the evening rush, and after the crowds of Borough Market.

Staff weren't rude... Just not friendly or welcoming and definitely no smiles - certainly don't know what was going on with them tonight. I hope they're OK. The food was average to say the least. A schnitzel that needed full force to cut through, it was thick and over seasoned. Will say that the portions are generous but there's no love in that there food; it was fodder. The drinks went down well. Shame but we won't be returning.

We went on a Friday evening, and managed to catch the tail end of the Christmas parties and the lull before the lads groups came out. We had jaeger schnitzel and roast pork, both were good for the price. I preferred the pork as the schnitzel was slightly overcooked. Service was reasonable for a busy day. Big queue, but it moved quickly as groups went to the bar. The food was relatively slow to come out (we separately ordered a pretzel, which was also slow to arrive). I take this as a sign of it being freshly prepared, so a very good thing. I felt the food fairly good, for German food. Beer was good too, a standard offering (Paulaner).

The service was OK but it was very loud in the underground basement. The food is really plain and the sides sour. I ordered two types of sausage but they both tasted the same. The chips were dry and salty and there was no additional condiments except the ketchup and mustard sauce to add to supplement the meal. The portion size of the schnitzel was really good but again it was very plain. The sausages were small in comparison and slot about the and price. The beer was a redeemable feature of the meal and worth trying again in Germany.

The staff unfortunately weren't friendly nor helpful. When ordering an aperol spritz, I was told twice they didn't offer any. However, it is on their menu. The waiter then palmed us off to another waitress who then asked me why I was being so rude. In all fairness, I was annoyed at the previous waiter. However, I would not call myself rude. And was incredible taken aback when the waitress confronted me after I said just one sentence to her (which was the order). I told her, I didn't think I was rude but she then went on to argue with me, how I actually was rude. Bit unnecessary really, when you just want to order drinks - not a nice welcoming at all. Which made us even reconsider to leave... However, food and atmosphere were alright, that's why it's still 3 stars. Maybe the whole team would benefit from customer service training.

Good name, bad service, bad quality food. We came into a nearly empty, soulless guestroom. The waitress was filling salt shakers and talking to a friend for nearly 15 minutes before taking our drinks order. Then we ordered Schnitzel and sausage platter as a main. The Schnitzel was never freshly pan fried, lukewarm and has never been pounded, so it was very hard to cut. The sausage platter... some sausages seemed fresh pan fried but lukewarm, other sausages were really dried out and hard. A sign that they were kept warm for a long time and not made fresh. Service without any charisma and partwise unfriendly. We will not come back!

I went to visit the restaurant with friends yesterday evening to eat and drink as you advertised yourself as a Traditional Bavarian restaurant. We sincerely noticed our food was not fresh, Specially mine. The manager said : " it was cooked 2 days ago". This is her own words. I am truly disappointed and frustrated how this can happened in Central London in 2024. This action can cause food poison and other illnesses. Absolutely careless and outrageous. We paid the bill , to be honest I don't know why... We will never go back . Shame on you to call yourself authentic/ traditional Bavarian restaurant. I would suggest to take this down and just be an average pub at London Bridge.

Great place to drink the liters, nice little underground German beer hall. I would highly recommend this place to check out

German bar with some big portions. Surprisingly large space in sub ground level. Nicely ventilated with good AC making the space cool and comfortable on a hot afternoon. Had a Paulner. Mostly German drafts. Quick service.

Always liked coming here while in vacation to London for Schweinebraten and a good Bier. Food was delicious except for the salad. Wasn't like a german salad, too much bitter greens & bell peppers. Butter lettuce would have been much better with gürkinsalat and a german dressing.

This place is asking people to pay a deposit for their table, telling you it will be removed from the final bill but then they do not provide table service making it impossible to actually get a final bill in the first place. They have kept out deposit and are unresponsive. Do not pay anything towards your booking, find a different place and save your money!

Nice German bar, though the only german stuff about it, is the bier. All the staff, as far as I can tell, are spanish or close by. Anyway, the service is good. My problem is, I went to the gents to do what men do, when I came back, my drink had gone and was about to be thrown away. I saved it. Today I went to the gent again, leaving my glasses as a pointer that I will return, wrong. My drink and my glasses were taken away to behind the bar. if any management are reading this, please note that, some customers are drinking along and need to use you facilities. The only other course of actiopn is for me to shout out, across the bar, that I am going to the loo and do not take my drink away.

On Wednesday, as part of our regular meet up myself and some friends went out for some food. The original plan was to go to Padella, however when my friends arrived there about 17:40 they found a rather large queue at the door (you cannot book at Padella) so diverted to Katzenjammer. Katzenjammer is a German style "bierkeller" and restaurant. It's located just next to Borough Market so great for either a quick drink or a nice sit, eat and drink. We grabbed a table near the bar (because that's the best place to sit, obviously) and started to peruse the menu. I was feeling particularly hungry so went for the sausage platter; selection of five sausages served on a bed of sauerkraut or red cabbage. I also got a side of fries for us all to nibble. My friends got the Jager Schnitzel (hunter style schnitzel with a dark mushroom sauce), spätzle (Bavarian pasta with cheese and onions) and a small sausage plate. I love this style of German food. It may be massively clichéd but it is so ridiculously tasty and satisfying when you're having beer. My food was delicious. I started to struggle towards the end but I persevered and defeated the plate. Each sausage was different and brought something new. I was a big fan of the thinner pfefferbeisser and paprikawurst. Denser, slightly chewier sausages which pack ridiculous amounts of flavour. I love cabbage and the sauerkraut and red cabbage accompaniments were excellent. Of course, I tried a little of my friends food too. The Jager Schnitzel was crispy and a little dry but the mushroom sauce saved it. The spätzle was nicely cooked but massively under seasoned for my taste (and for my friends. He spent most of the meal adding salt and pepper to it!) All in all the food was very good and I'd eat there again without hesitation. The other reason we were there was for beer! I tried 3 different beers before we left; Paulaner hefe-weissbier dunkel (dark wheat beer), Rosarda (Belgian rose beer made with summer berries) and Floris Apple (delicious Belgian fruit beer made with apples). All of these beers were excellent and that was barely scratching the surface of the selection of beers. Katzenjammers is highly recommended. Food, drink and location make it a real winner.

Good place for a classic Munich beer, although they don't have Augustiner on tap and you cannot get a "Mass" (1L glass) after 10.30pm.

If you are a fan of German Beer Houses you have to go here! It is simply a quality night! Don't judge me but I do love the fruity beer on offer! I was introduced to this at a badminton social and I have been back a few times! The food is quite good and what you expect. The decor is very simple with lines of benches and the new area downstairs really allows the atmosphere to build. The real show stealers are the oomph band. Delivering absolute classics time after time! The best night to go is Friday after work but be warned if you add jäger bombs into the mix it can turn messy. The two bars accommodate the drinkers well and the app to order food is a great niche idea on offer. Be ready to pick the tune up and belt out to the band!

Had a fun night with a big group of people. We'd booked 4 tables and when we got there a couple of them were occupied. No real problem as they were marked with our name and time and the people there were happy to move - we told them that we wouldn't use them until more of our group turned up but when they did we'd need them. We were a little confused about ordering, whether it was at the table or at the bar. Several of us ordered at the bar, giving a central table number (we only knew one and this lead to a small problem) and bought some steins of beer. The beer comes in half pints, pints and steins - just under 2 pints. Unfortunately none of the special glasses offered by the Bavarian Beerhouse here. The food however is good, I ordered the Jager Schnitzel, or Hunters schnitzel. A large pork steak, pounded, breaded and fried, served with a mushroom sauce, fries and salad. It's a large portion and good value, the sauce being a little different than expected (I thought it would be creamy, don't know why) but adding some good flavour. There is German mustard on the table which isn't hot but has fantastic flavour. Food ended up being a little confused as people couldn't remember what they ordered, it all came to one table instead of going to the others etc. A couple of our people even ate meals that weren't theirs and were surprised when it came out later. Hint: if you ordered two of the same sausage and you grab the plate with two different ones, it's probably not your meal! Final orders was called about 10:15, quite early on, so once we'd finished our meal, a group of us headed over to Call Me Mr Lucky where we won a round of shots for the entire bar!

One of my German friends, Marcus held his leaving do here. He felt that a German Bierkeller was an appropriate venue for his last hurrah The underground location made it a potentially sweltering venue on a hot July evening but there was a giant fan, which was helpfully directed at our table, so it wasn't too bad. The acoustics make it very loud and difficult to converse though My dining companions were impressed by the range of German beer on offer and some decided to get into training for their visit to Oktoberfest later on in the year. I like the German theming with the staff dressing up in German costumes. There are also German music evenings held here I opted for the schnitzel and a side order of spaetzle. The schnitzel here is made from pork and not the traditional veal. The good news was that it was large but could have done with a touch more seasoning in the batter. The spaetzle wasn't like mom makes it, according to Marcus and was basically pasta with cheese The food wasn't top class but I think that's more the fault of German food rather than the venue. Nevertheless, I had a fun evening Good luck with the move, Marcus!

Fun place - a German beer hall complete with live music and a sausage bar. The atmosphere is just filled with fun - a good time had by all. It's in an old bomb shelter, so everything is a bit louder than normal making the noise level a little too high for me. I didn't enjoy the sausage I ate, but I think just chose poorly(had the pepper one) as everyone else raved about theirs. It was also really hard to get a drink at the bar- everyone pushed in and made it so you have to be super assertive to be noticed. Overall, a solid, fun time and I would return to see if the other things got better. Word of warning: the really large beer is insanely large.

It's a novelty, Katzenjammers. Staff seemed to be just about interested in their jobs. It took them over an hour to clear the empties from our table. But then about an hour and half in it seemed the staff either became more interested or there was a change of shift, because suddenly there was table service. Clientele were a bit of a turn off, for example two people would turn up at the table and ask to share it, as we had room for two more. Of course, we don't mind at all. The more the merrier. Then either two or at one point four more people would turn up after the first two. One group excelled at their task and were being extra annoying. Basically making you want to leave the table. Eh?? You're having a giraffe, darlin'! Stop swinging your ponytail off my head. Food was a lot better than expected. I went for the schnitzel and it was good. Final mention to the toilets, which were in a bit of a state, all sinks blocked or almost blocked. Ugh. I won't be rushing back next time I'm in town.

A few of us went for beer and snacks after work on Friday. Whilst I cannot comment on the selection of German beer they had (I'm not an expert, and my guy friends ordered most of the drinks throughout the night), I can say that it was a neat experience overall. Beer was served in massive two-pint glasses (smaller options also available), and they had a number of German beers that I had not had before. The sausage platter we ordered hit the spot for us. Ambience was also fun. Located underground and filled with rows of wooden tables, it was very reminiscent of a Oktoberfest scenery. Equally, they had a second underground level, where an oompahband played. The band played a range of pop songs, adding to the festive atmosphere. Service was generally prompt as well. The waitresses were very diligent with taking the empty glasses and bringing back our orders. One downside was that the noise level was quite high. Do not go on a Friday evening if you intend to have a lot of conversations with your friends.

Katzenjammers has excellent German beer, so-so food and sometimes suspect service. But the beer makes it worth stopping by. I had some superb wheat beer (pictured) and an unusual smoked beer on tap, but there were various other beers I saw there that I recognised and can vouch for. Beer on tap can be ordered in quarter litre, half litre and litre measures and the crowd seems to be predominantly twenty-somethings. The food served centres around medium-grade frankfurters in low-grade rolls. It fills a gap rather than wows you with quality. And the service can be slow, covered as it was when I was there by just one person. Overall though, one of the better bars in the area thanks to its excellent range of beer.

This place is awesome. Get a stein-sized glass of beer (2 pints)! We tried a little bit of everything... giant plates of sausage with sauerkraut, mac and cheese, bavarian ravioli, pretzels (the BEST pretzels ever!), and the cheese board. The cheese plate and mac and cheese were unnecessary at the end, but the pretzels and sausages were the best by far. A little cheesy with the servers dressed in german costumes, but this basement bar is an awesome hideaway from the crowds from borough market.

Katzenjammer is apparently the German term for hangover (or literaly "misery of cats"), and judging by the fact that you can order a stein (actually 2 pints rather than 1 ltr) of 6% Oktoberfest beer you can understand why! The bar is laid out with large benches and tables in a typical Bavarian style, and is attractively decorated. You can either order at the bar or have table service. The range of beers is a large and excellent selection from Germany. The bar staff wear traditional Bavarian dress, adding to the atmosphere. I've been several times since its opening about a month ago. On a Friday night visit, a brass band played pop music - sounds cheesy but does create an excellent atmosphere. I can recommend the food. Especially ordering a large pretzel with every drink (£1.10). Also good are the sausage platters (served with lots of sauerkraut), cured meat selection. They do have at least one vegetarian dish. Overall a highly recommended bar with a great atmosphere. Would be particularly good if you booked a whole table for a large group or party.

This is a fun place to eat and drink - however it is not for those who like to talk to anyone other then the person next to them as it is super noisy so you have to be in the mood. The atmosphere is always fun, the beer is great and the food is big portions are reasonable prices. And when they have a band on, which is usually around 9 on Fridays and Saturday it is brilliant. Staff are friendly and service is very quick. You can book a table if you are eating and I would reccommend that you do as you will never get one of you get there anytime after 4pm weds-sat!

Decent drink. Bad food. I'm a big fan of this style of place on london. My problem with this place is that they don't seem to have a great selection of beer and the food is really not great. I ordered a stein of Wheatbeer. It arrived and it was fine. I then ordered a hunter schnitzel (mushroom sauce). The sauce was like curry wurst sauce. Not the creamy awesomeness I'm used to. And it had like 3 mushrooms in (on) it. Truly disappointing. Basically don't bother going here if you have the choice of bierschenke. It's just better.

Oktoberfest in London! Everyday! Now Katzenjammers may not have the debauchery and drunken shenanigans of the true Oktoberfest, but as an authentic german beer hall it nails it! From the vaulted ceilings, to the beer maids in leiderhosen, to the giANT STEINS(liters) of beer I felt I was back in Munich. Let me tell you my sad story. I am studying abroad at a University in London right now until December. One of the main reasons I came in the Fall was to make it to Oktoberfest at least one time in my life. I had a room booked with some friends(usually one of the hardest parts), but could NOT find a flight. I was devastated. Katzenjammers almost made up for it. Almost. My Frankfurter was nice a tasty with a great snap. My hacker pschorr liter was outstanding(if not expensive at 9 pounds) and the hot pretzels were great. I hear that some nights that have a true german band come and play some tunes. Wouldn't that be nice. Next time I get a pain in my heart that I didn't make it to Oktoberfest on my time abroad, I am going to head back to Katzenjammers. Prost!

The vaulted cellars of the old Hop Exchange provide a marvelous environment for this bierkellar. It really does feel quite German. The lagers are great and the food is astoundingly good value. A large plate of saurkraut with five big German sausages is about £12 and is enough for three to share if you each have a bowl of their very crispy frites. The only thing that really lets it down is the staff, they're fine, but they're not German and the barmaids wear very fake durndle T-Shirts which moves the needle on the authenticity-o-meter over to cheesey. It's a great place for groups but can get just that little bit too loud when it fills up. All in all, I'm a fan

Having been to a horrible tacky 'Bavarian beer house' in the city, I was fearful that we would encounter more bad food and frightened looking young waitresses in plunging fancy-dress shop dirndles. This place is brilliant. It feels like a secret - tucked away down some steps, with a discrete sign out front. The vaulted ceiling and big wooden tables make it feel authentic and cosy, the beer menu is long, and the food is yummy. My dearly beloved and I went for valentine's day and enjoyed tall mugs of lager and an unhealthy amount of sausages, sauerkraut and pretzels with mustard for under twenty quid. It was very quiet on the week night we went, so I recommend Katzenjammers as a nice place for a date or a chat with friends in the week. Or just pop in on your own for a quiet pretzel and a pint. I tried to get in on a Friday however, and it was RAMMED. Seemed a nice crowd, all happily tucking in to food and beers. I'd happily go with a group up for a boozy night, but would want to reserve a table or get there early.

There have been a few attempts to create a "Bavarian Bierkeller" in London, but most, frankly, have been unconvincing - dressing waitresses in Dirndl and piping in Oom-pah music does not a Bierkeller make. Katzenjammers, a cellar bar near London Bridge station (with an entrance that is quite easy to miss) is therefore a refreshing change, in actually delivering what it claims. It does feel authentically like the archetype, and offers a good selection of German biers, food and schnapps. Well worth a visit if you fancy something convincingly Deutsch.

Katzenjammers (for ease I'm calling it KJ from now in) is one of the main Bavarian Bierkellers in London - the other being the Bavarian Beer House in Aldgate. They've taken the term "beer cellar" literally and stuck it under ground in an insulated, poorly ventilated, basement which boasts a thick miasma of sweat and other bodily fluids. It's not a good entrance but luckily everything looks up from there. They stock two well known Oktoberfest beers on tap - Paulaner and Hacker Pschorr. These are the ones every tent goes knows and perhaps loves and are characterised by a slightly sweet taste and a lightly carbonated body that makes for easy drinking. In keeping with the theme, beers can be obtained in pints or steins and it's a fairly easy guess at what most guys will order. KJ also offers up a range of standard Bavarian foods (think meat and potatoes in various forms) so it really could be a one stop place for your casual night out. If it wasn't for the oppressive humid atmosphere I'd be happy to stay down there, but when the weather is good take your stein and get up to street level. Prices are fairly reasonable but don't expect too many frills. And for you single guys (or maybe girls) out there, you can't help but appreciate the thought process that went into making the Drindl. If there is a more flattering waitress outfit, I'm yet to see it.

Came here one week after Oktoberfest in Munich to get over my nostalgia, after hearing from a friend that she'd had a wild night here. The only other German beer hall that I've been to in London is Bavarian Beerhouse at Old Street, and that was utter madness. Katzenjammers was an entirely different experience in this instance. When we arrived, there were only two other tables that were occupied at 5 pm on a Sunday evening, though it gradually filled, over half of them were just 1-3 people for a table that can seat 8 people comfortably, so still gave the room a half-empty vibe. But with 8 friends at a table, it just turned into a good catch up in a low key environment on Sunday evening. As for the food and drink, I'm not entirely sure of the prices, but I got a stein of Paulaner and my friend got a pint of a weissbier and that only came out to 14 pounds, which I thought was quite reasonable (I wasn't able to get my stein alone because they have a 10 pound credit card minimum, and it was surprisingly under that amount). I found it a bit odd that the only Oktoberfest beer available here was Paulaner, as they lacked any of the other big names (Erdinger, Lowenbrau, Hofbrau, etc.) We also later ordered schnitzel, currywurst, and kasseler, and that came out to about 9 pounds each for a full plate of food (with too much of the fries and salad to finish). I would have liked to see a haxe pork joint on the menu, but the food that we got was very good and satisfying. I think I prefer Bavarian Beerhouse but I am willing to give Katzenjammers another chance.

This is a wonderful german-style bierkeller with the perfect setting in the cellar of of the Hop Exchange at London Bridge. They have a superb lineup of German beers, with 7-8 on tap and dozens more in bottles, as well as a selection of German wines. The food is tasty and an incredible value. The freshly baked pretzels with a cold pint of wheat beer is a glorious treat. Katzenjammer's gets very busy on Thursday and Friday nights, but is usually not too crowded at other times. It's a great place to stop in for lunch on a rainy weekend day. We go often, and usually just order a sausage on a roll to go with our beers. The sausages (choice of 6 varieties) are really good, and come served on a generous roll slathered with sauerkraut and fried onions and a salad on the side. For £5, it's hard to beat this meal. They also have some great dinner mains, including schnitzel, pig's knuckle, ham loin, and roast pork. These meals are hearty and huge. I especially love the spaetzle and, and the thin cut pomme frites are usually excellent. And whoever decided to deep-fry the dumplings that come with the pork knuckle is a genius. Skip the gulaschsuppe, though, as it is completely bland and more of a dry stew than a suppe. Food quality does vary somewhat from one visit to the next (and I wish they would take the time to wash the salad leaves, which are almost always full of grit). But service is usually quick and servings are generous for the price. The service is friendly, if sometimes a bit blasé, but the manager often makes rounds to tables to make sure patrons are happy. The place gets very noisy and boisterous when there are a few large groups, but it can also be enjoyably quiet. On weekend nights they have a brass/oompah band that is fun and actually avoids being too cheesy, but it does tend to make conversation impossible.

I really like this place :) I seem to end up here on most Fridays having been warming up elsewhere which means however that by the time I arrive, it is R A M M O! If you get there early enough, you'd get a table hopefully but then getting to the bar while it's like this is still pretty difficult unfortunately. The band who are both fun and talented, not to mention dressed appropriately for a Bavarian bar, normally play until 9ish(?) and then after that actually the crowd disperses a tad. Drinks-wise, beer beer and beer obviously including some good strong stuff and a dark beer which gave me this incredible hangover, but gotta say was kinda worth it :) Ive not eaten here yet; may have to come try it out on a mid-week night to get that full experience! It's pretty obvious I am going to end up back here, I was here last night!

I had the impression that Katzenjammers would be (a) tiny and (b) really gimmicky. But really it's quite large with loads of seating and the only gimmick is the silly tiny uniform they make the waitresses wear. I was initially distressed at the lack of cider, because I'm not a beer/lager drinker in general but they had a wide range of fruit beers suited to my sweet tastes and the one on tap was liked delicious slightly alcoholic Ribena. The food is hearty and reasonably prices - the sausage and chips option (you can choose 2 different sausages) is particularly good value for money and both the bratwurst and bockwurst were excellent. A fun place! (ps hot men here too)

I quite like this place, especially the big 2 pint glasses of beer! There's a good, fun atmosphere inside, but it can get loud. Didn't order any food, but it did look and smell pretty yummy from other peoples tables. I've heard they do traditional German music at the weekends, so I'll definitely be revisiting to experience it!

I believe this place can get pretty rowdy on Thursdays & Fridays with after-work drinkers. It is a German beer hall after all. But we were here for food, on a Tuesday evening. It was relatively quiet. That said, all of the tables in the main room were full, but they opened the side room for us. For somewhere that is more of a drinking den, I thought the food was surprisingly good. Different kinds of german sausage served in different ways - chopped up with curry ketchup, or in a hot dog bun, or on a plate with dollops of sauerkraut. I opted for the latter - 2 different kinds of sausage with sauerkraut & fried potatoes. I was full, and pleasantly satisfied. This is no nonsense food. The place very much feels like a mopped up drinking hall, so possibly not the best surroundings to enjoy a meal, but if you set your expectations at good solid pub grub, you'll be grand. The girls at the bar wear the kind of outfit you'd expect of servers at Oktoberfest, which I'd describe more as awkward than sexy. And they certainly didn't seem particularly inspired to be wearing them, or even to be there. Overall, service & decor are uninspired, but the food comes as a pleasant surprise.

Really fun atmosphere for a Friday night, lots of beer and great brass band combine to make it an idea social bar

If only the pints here were 50p cheaper than I might have given this place 5 stars! The selection of German beers here is unparalleled (especially on draught) and the menu lists them in the most user friendly manner. The food is excellent German fare at what I consider a reasonable price (unlike the drinks). The place is not too noisy as can happen in such bars. The traditional accordion player was a pleasant diversion. The waitresses' costumes are unfortunately a little less revealing than the dirdel (?) but I suspect they prefer the more basic serving wench look. The big tables are what you expect to find, perfect for a groupotherwise you might have to share and make some new friends. But when 2 pints comes to almost 10 pounds.you just can't drink here often!

When I was at Katzenjammers it was very crowded, and I was happy to get a place at all. I found myself amidst a rugby team. Well, interesting experience. A lot of strong and drunk guys, shouting, singing and all that. Not the most relaxing dinner, but a funny experience anyway. The Schnitzel I had was okay, but nothing special. The pretzel I ordered as a main arrived as kind of dessert. So the timing was not perfect. I guess, I should go there again to see how it tasted and feels without a crowd of drunk rugby players around. But then, I guess, it will be really boring

I really really like it here. Although somehow ending up in here on a hot summers night wasn't very clever. But, it was my friend's birthday, he likes all the many many types of beer, so here we came. Thing is, every time I've been here, I've been not drinking very much. I can attest that the cherry beer is excellent, but that's it. Everyone else seemed happy though. And I here good things about the food. Had I not had a nap late on Saturday afternoon, I wouldn't have missed dinner... The tables are huge, it gets loud, the service can vary between good and crappy (if you're waiting at the bar AND having a conversation, they'll ignore you) but it's fun. Really really fun. The opening hours confuse me. First time I came here everyone left at 12:30. Saturday everyone was out by 11. But, it's not cheap so you'll have spent all of your beer pennies by then anyway.

Raucous beery subterranean fun. Surprisingly there aren't many genuinely awesome watering holes around Borough Market, and since it opened a few months back, K-Js has become our haunt of choice. They do the important stuff: sausage, steins and a good fresh pretzel.

Great German beer and food. The currywurst and schnitzel are definitely the meals to try out. If you like the German Wheaty beers then you'll enjoy their selection. Theres also a bunch of fruity belgian beers which taste more like soft drinks and some wine, for those not into beer. Have to say I'm not sure where the negative food comments come from as this is primarily a bar and the food more than exceeds bar quality grub. You're not getting wetherspoons boil in the bag stuff here for example.

Receiving a booking confirmation just a day before an event with 12 people invited is simply too late. However, the flexibility shown on arrival to find a table that had an excellent view of the game, and attentiveness of staff throughout the evening improved the rating. Also the fact that the beer selection includes authentic Munich beers such as Augustiner, Paulaner, and Hacker Pschorr was a pleasant surprise. The German guests in group tried out the bratwurst and blaukraut and were happy with the quality. We were in the lower level beer Hall which was brightened with white walls and very clean. Would definitely go again the next time we are in London.

German beer hall that serves hot food, Bavarian Beer on tap and a variety of other spirits and beers. Great selection of beers, which are top notch, best for me is Paulaner on tap. Loud and lively near the weekends, which is a lot of fun if you're looking for an exciting place. They even have a brass band (be sure to cheer for the tuba) playing on Friday nights and sometimes weekend nights. Reserve a table ahead of time if you want to sit or have hot food. Didn't try the food except the pretzel (pretty good) but definitely loved the beer. They also have a Belgian fruit beer on tap which my friend loved. Comes out a bit pricey though at about 5 quid a pint (and dont forget the giant steins!) They have free Wi-fi that works really well, and it's also good to bring cash or start a tab b/c minimum for card payment is £10.00.

Fabulous, fabulous place to grab a bite to eat or have a merry old time with your friends!! The sausages are delicious but what's even better are the Bavarian Beers they have and for great prices! Bringing friends here all the time now for a great night out. Missed out on Oktoberfest, but it feels like I haven't missed a thing at Katzenjammers, especially with the live music.

Massive beers and novelty theme with fun music. Worth a look!

I went with a few friends on a Saturday night and it ended up being a great time. Massive beer, tons of happy drunk people, and best of all a live brass band playing amazing cover songs. It's a really great atmosphere

Katzenjammers is a Bavarian beer hall located near Borough Market. I have to say, I love the concept of this place and some of the beer selection, but I was a bit disappointed by its execution. Came here on a Sunday night when things seemed a bit slow so could have just been an off night, but the service was spotty and I didn't appreciate the attitude of the waitstaff. Regardless, I would definitely give this place another shot on a busier evening.

It's pretty hot in there, quite literally. Probably not a great move ducking into the cellar on a hot day, but is certainly a welcome refuge in those London winters. The large selection of German brews and processed meats will keep the boys plenty occupied.

This place is pretty good, but not amazing. They had a large selection of bottled beers, but disappointingly only a few on tap. The sausages are delicious and come in large portions, but the schnitzel was much too thin with too much breading. I'd go again for a beer, but not the food.

Sausages: great. Sauerkraut: great. Kartoffelnsalat: great: Lager: great. Waitress: very friendly. Atmosphere: check. What else do you need? Ok, maybe a bit too expensive.

First went for a friends stag do. Great having German beers in stein glasses. The sausages are pretty good too. The tavern feeling inside is what it sets it apart from some of the other German beer places. Would recommend after a visit to the borough market just nearby!

Barvarian style bierkeller in Borough. The name translates as caterwaul, appropriate for somewhere designed around low slung ceilings and loud, communal conversation. It was half full but still verging on too loud, not somewhere to take a date certainly, but the kind of place an office party could get their vocal chords limbered up before heading to a discotheque. The beer list is solid, lengthy, German and available in steins. The food list is perfunctory and pig flavoured. A number of different sausages come with (badly) fried chips, the other specials include Wiener Schnitzel, a plate size slice of pork, covered in breadcrumbs and forced into the fryer. Germany perversely manages more Michelin starred restaurants than any other European country other than the UK and France, but manages to have a universal reputation for bad, fried food. Katzenjammers offers a fun night, but won't change your mind about the cuisine.

This place is awesome, all around. Went here for dinner on a Wednesday, grabbed a giant table and was greeted immediately with a friendly bier garten lady. Ordered a Stein of the dunkel, which was delicious and the lady had a Weissbier, which was equally delicious. Had a pretzel for an app which was good, probably should have gotten 2. Then dinner. Ordered the sausage platter which came with 5 different types of sausage and sauerkraut. All of them were delicious and tasted great with the medium senf (mustard) provided. Had the side salad (ok) and kartoffel salad (potato salad) which was awesome. Overall it was a great meal with a great atmosphere and got out of there for about 30 pounds for 2 people. This place was AS good as the Paulaner's that I went to in Bremen, Germany about 2 weeks ago.

I had my birthday here on a Friday night which was very busy as expected but a really great atmosphere and we did manage to get a bench for most of the evening. Lots of German beer to choose from served in traditional german style. An oompa band played pop songs which was great and I even got a rendition of happy birthday! Fantastic place to have drinks with friends, good atmosphere, great place, different music but most importantly lots of different drinks to try. Certainly aptly named.

Good food, good beer, quite pricey. The thing that ruined it for me was the service. Waiters were slow and disorganised. One of the waitresses was very rude. If I pay £10 for a beer I do not want to be disturbed several times because the restaurant cannot handle their reservations.

Really bad service and made a complete botch of our booking I made a company Christmas reservation which they got completely, inexplicably wrong. They then refused to query the booking further. They gave us no alternative options and told us to move because we were in the way. So we left. Really disappointing guys!
