Restaurants With Butcher Shops Are Popping Up All Over the U.S. | Eater

"Founded by Kayne Fisher and opened in 2018, this Greensboro butcher-shop restaurant was inspired by the corner-store butchers of his childhood and aims to recreate that cut-to-order experience. Pork and poultry are sourced locally while most beef comes from a vetted Iowa City supplier; the kitchen and butchery use every component of animals they process, integrating the market directly into menu development and sales." - Bridget Shirvell

Food was amazing and Chef Chris came to visit us, as we truly appreciated the flavor and uniqueness of the food. Steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked!!! Highly recommend the Chef and Service team. They worked collaboratively together to make sure all guests were accommodated. Meagan, front of house, gave great recommendations where we were highly say. Thank you all. We will be back!!!

This place is one of my favorites. The food is very good, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet but pleasant. The prices are fair for what they offer.

I had the Cajun wings and spicy margarita. The meat was a tid dry, but the margarita was spot on. The environment was nice and clean and very modern. My friend had the brisket and macaroni and cheese. It was wicked good.

We went in for dinner on Valentine's Day, and it was busy as expected. But it was worth the wait. Servers there were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered 2 steaks: medium-well and medium. The medium was cooked to perfection. The medium-well could've been cooked a little longer, but it was too delicious to complain. We also ordered the bacon bites appetizer; delicious. Overall, we will be coming back soon. Of course, not on a busy holiday. Definitely recommend for a good steak.

TOP TIER EXPERIENCE, This Was My First Time Ever Going And I Have No Complaints As Far As The Setting/Atmosphere. Well other than it being a long line and a long wait before we were ever met a host/hostess. Food was bland, but maybe i just shouldve ordered something else😂😂 Will Be Trying Again Though

Google
Everything was awesome. We sat at the outside bar because of the great weather. Food was good. We had the collard dip, sausage dip and the soul rolls were the show stopper. I ordered the chicken Philly and my wife ordered the Buffalo chicken mac n cheese. No complaints here about the food at all. The drinks were also very satisfying.

Google
This is my favorite date night restaurant. The food is amazing. The smash burger is my favorite, salmon is also great. I love the brussel sprouts. I always have the sausage dip and highly recommend it. It’s amazing, especially with the new homemade chips.

Google
Kau has been a regular we rotate to go to in our house for years. Last night was the first time where my husband and I had the absolute worst meal we’ve had at a restaurant in recent memory. I ordered the brisket sandwich, which resembled the taste of the 90’s/00’s school cafeteria salisbury steak. It was absolutely inedible. My husband’s steak was seared properly, but somewhere along the way the kitchen must have run out of the bare minimum of seasonings, such as salt, pepper, or butter. This one will be removed from our rotation for the foreseeable future as it was not worth the $100 we spent on the meal.

Yelp
absolutely love this place , the staff was so sweet and made our special night even more amazing && the food was phenomenal as always !!! thanks so much too Mikayla who was our server and made this a night to remember the meatloaf is all time fave of mine but the brisket Mac and cheese definitely my new go to ! thanks again to all the staff for such a wonderful and memorable night .

Yelp
I recently visited with friends and was genuinely impressed. From the moment we walked in, the warm welcome and attentive service set the tone. Our server anticipated our needs: refilled water, offered menu suggestions, and ensured our dishes arrived timely with a smile. The food was outstanding and portion size felt generous for the price. The ambience was relaxing yet elegant. Soft lighting, tasteful décor. At $25-30 per entrée, this spot offers great value for the quality. We'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
Kau has always been a local favorite! We visited for the first time since it has been under new ownership and were not disappointed! We sat at the bar - it had warm lighting. The service was prompt & friendly! The food was delicious!! We ordered the fried calamari & the brisket Mac-n-Cheese. The calamari was cooked to perfection and paired with a sweet & spicy dipping sauce. The Mac was totally indulgent. So savory and cheesy...I didn't want to stop eating though I was so full! Wednesday also has wine deals! Wine-down with discounted glasses or half-off bottles! That was a bonus for sure! Can't wait to go back and enjoy the patio soon.

Yelp
If you know me you know I've never been a huge fan of Kau. It's not bad, it's just not my go to in GSO and I've never really understood the hype. However, they do have the best Philly Cheesesteak in town, IMO. I thought they had removed it at one point and I remember thinking that was the worst decision they could have made, but I gave them another shot last weekend and lo and behold there it was! I have to say, this was the best experience I've had here. It was packed, and the line to be seated was nearly out the door, so obviously they're doing something right! They did get everyone through pretty quickly. Parking can be a little painful if you can't get a spot right up front. This isn't Kau's fault, I just think the design of this parking lot and Rev Mill is poor in general. The service here is always great, I'll say that! There's also a huge bar and in the warmer months, the deck bar is a lot of fun! My sandwich was delicious as always. There's just something about it! The aioli is out of this world and it's a big sandwich for the price. That's the interesting thing, I find the prices to be inconsistent. Beer is expensive but cocktails are competitively priced. Handhelds are fairly priced while other things are outrageous. My friend had the Crab Cakes. Good, but absolutely not worth the price tag, and I'll pay good money for a solid meal no questions asked. Now I will say they are very clearly mostly lump crab and not filled with a bunch of additives or breading. They just needed more seasoning and weren't that hot. Now that this area is growing more, I'll come back here. I'd also make a special trip to get the Philly to go! It's a must try.

Yelp
I went with a group of ladies from my church. They had never been there. They liked that it was literally walking distance from my apt. We were seated immediately by the bar. Our server was really nice. Even though we got there an hour before they closed, she still gave us a chance to look over the menu and ask questions. She even suggested dessert items and sold a few to table. The collard dip is always to die for. The pita chips are sooooo good. Everyone enjoyed that. For the most part, everyone enjoyed their food, except the person with the lamb chops. The baked potatoes were lukewarm as well. they have a new nitro lemonade. It's really good, but idk if it's worth $7. I'd definitely be back though!

Yelp
I went here recently with some friends for a birthday dinner. They didn't have space for a group our size on the inside so we opted for the outdoor bar. The cocktails were very well mixed and our bartenders were very attentive. I ordered the cajun pasta which was great, and they did have a veggie burger for my husband, which they were willing to adjust a bit to make it vegan (though, not many other vegan friendly options). The space itself is really nice, close to the revolution mill apartments and overlooking the water. We had a group of 8, so if you are looking for somewhere with an indoor option that can accommodate that, it would probably be best to make a reservation- this was just a random weekday around 7 and they were still pretty busy.

Yelp
Best steak I've experienced in Greensboro! Excellent quality cuts, cooked to perfection! The old mill industrial atmosphere is very cool, and you park across the creek and walk over on a pleasant footbridge. Pretty setting. Service is great too, attentive but not hovering. Not rushed either.

Yelp
Kau is a very cool atmosphere. The bar tenders were great. Very friendly. Service was very good. One thing you should know is they are a first come first served. So getting a table may be tricky. There are only about 12 tables and then bar seating. We ordered the Soul Roll for start and then the brisket sandwich and meatloaf sandwich, both with brussel sprouts. I was not a fan of the soul roll it was kind of bland. The Thai chili sauce they serve with it helped kick up the flavor. The stand out for us was the brisket sandwich. The meat was so tender. If we go back we will definitely try some of their other options.

Yelp
Honestly so disappointed in Kau. We just went last week and the food has gone so downhill. My dad and husband got steaks and they were not the temperature they ordered. They were super tough and not seasoned well at all. I got a poke bowl and the tuna was closer to grey than it was pink. I was literally picking around the tuna, just eating the rice and avocado and such. My mom's meal was good, she got the salmon and brussel sprouts and she was pleased with it. We got calamari to start which was super rubbery. The quality of food does not match the price whatsoever. The steaks were each $65 and some of the worst I've ever tasted. It's just such a shame because the facility and the service was amazing. We had such an awesome waiter and she even got my dad another steak after he wasn't happy with his temperature. They were extremely accommodating and the manager even came out to talk to us about it. I wish they would make the food better to match the nice facility and awesome staff.

Yelp
Kau is one of our favorite restaurants! They had a grand reopening on 6.18.25 and the food was sooo good! So impressed with the new management. The short ribs and scallops were my favorite. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I've heard nothing but good things about this place so we tried it. Personally not sure what all the fuss was about. It's in an old factory building turned Restaurant. Cool, that's been going on for about 30 years (check out the BOB, Grand Rapids, MI). So Butcher shop is in the same building. I assume their steaks are good, but I'm not paying 55.00 for a NYS at basically a glorified bar. Oh, that was the least expensive steak. We ordered the collard dip forgot to get photo. It was ok, the pita chips that came with it were phenomenal. The handheld, or as normal people call them sandwiches were good. They came with 1 side and started at 16.00, high for a sandwich. We Sat at the bar, great service. The bartender was extremely friendly. However, again, for 2 sandwiches an appetizer 2 beers and tip, I think 75.00 is a bit much.

Yelp
This review is strictly for the butcher part of Kau. I stopped in to get a gift card and was greeted pleasantly by the butcher. She assisted me in my purchase and explained the hours and operation. The meat in the case looked so fresh and good. It is pricey, but it is really worth it. The selection was amazing. The bacon looked thick and seasoned well. While the butcher was assisting another customer, I walked around to see what they offered. The local sauces and seasonings really caught my eye. I can't wait to stop by again to try the restaurant. It looks like they take care in their product.

Yelp
Kau is an upscale dining experience with an elevated spin on classics items. I've been here twice and each time has been great from the service to the food. I tried the Collard Green Dip and Chicken Jack on this visit. I enjoyed the collard dip-it put me in the mind of a spinach artichoke dip but the collards gave it a different flair and elevated the usual dip experience. The Alfredo sauce in the dip paired well making it creamy and delicious. I also loved the pita chips which weren't too crunchy like chips but had enough body to be a good accompaniment. The Chicken Jack was very well seasoned and I thought the pepper jack cheese gave it the right hint of spice without being overwhelming. The chicken was perfectly fried and juicy and the bun was incredibly soft. Definitely a must visit if you haven't tried. Everything so far has been excellent.

Yelp
We walked in to this restaurant and were impressed. An old industrial building, used to be revolution cotton mills, south's first flannel mill first opened in 1898. The history, location and the work done to transform the interior of the building was truly remarkable from the flooring to exposed beams and ceilings and huge space, we were in awe. I wish we can say the same thing about the food. My cousin and BF had the butcher burger and weren't really impressed. It lacked that extra substance to it, to make it really enjoyable. The patty was of good quality but overall it was boring, the garlic aioli didn't do much to elevate the taste and so was the Gruyère cheese that it came with, however the fries were great. Now, I had the beef tips.. it was good but nothing special. The mashed potato was delectable, rich and creamy and the broccolini was cooked perfectly and had a good crunch, but the gravy was a bit much and added an extra layer of richness that I couldn't finish my meal. What we enjoyed the most was the steak plate appetizer, unique tasting that you just can't get enough of. And drinks, good selection of wines, cocktails and draughts. Service was friendly and adequate. A little pricey for North Carolina, I just wished the taste of food was worth it. 3 stars for food, 5 stars for the ambiance and location.

Yelp
Enjoyed a tasty dinner at Kau on our date night out to Revolution Mill over the weekend. Got there around 7, seating is a bit chaotic, as it's a seat yourself situation, which I did not expect for what I considered a "finer" dining experience. This could certainly be improved, as there was much wasted space, 2 people sitting at 6 tops, and people sporadically spaced at the bar, just made it a little difficult to find a spot. We did eventually find 2 open seats at the very end of the bar. It was maybe a medium level of busy, but after finding our seats, the bartender brought menus. The menu had some good options, getting on the pricey side for sure. I was very surprised by their minimal beer selection. I always think that's odd when we're in a state and even an area with so many great beers, to only have few craft beers on the but menu is disappointing. I ended up getting the brisket Mac and cheese, a dish that I had enjoyed the first time I visited several years ago. Food came out pretty quickly, looked great, and tasted even better. My big complaint is the awkward seating method. I can see it working fine on slow nights, but not on a Friday night. Otherwise the food is great, and I'm sure I'll be back

Yelp
Arrived at 6, was told there would be a 30 minute wait. Sat at the bar and left after 45 minutes...received a phone call at 7:25 that our table was ready. We were already at McCouls having a fish dinner. As we left Kau saw a number of folks who were already seated still waiting for their meals. Maybe it's time to get your act together.

Yelp
Enjoying an evening out with coworkers. Kau never disappoints! The food is always on point and the plates are always loaded. The cocktails were very good as well along with the customer service. We were lucky to have a waiter in training and a waitress, they were very knowledgeable about what Kau had to offer. I love dining on their deck but the wind was blowing too much yesterday, maybe next time so we can enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you haven't visited before try them out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Time for an update to my 2020 review of Kau, and to show my appreciation for this wonderful Greensboro spot at Revolution Mill! I've been here several times with groups, or just me and my SO. No matter the occasion, whether a brunch, lunch, or dinner, it has never failed to hold up. Not to mention, it's a big place, so they can usually accomodate you right away, especially if the weather is nice and the deck is open (one of the best outdoor dining spots in Greensboro). My favorite thing has come to be the meatloaf sandwich. A perfectly done meatloaf sandwich is something to treasure when you find it, and Kau absolutely nails it. I've never seen a small portion at Kau, and this sandwich is no exception! The chunk of meatloaf is very hearty, with their meatloaf sauce and a brilliant blend of ingredient, topped with muenster cheese on buttery bread. It's great. In fact, after an appetizer of collar dip (every time, just do it), I can only eat half, and end up taking the other half home usually with some brussel sprouts (my usual side choice) for another meal. To elaborate on the collard dip, might be my absolute favorite dip in town. For one, the pita chips they serve with it are divine. Buttery, a little crisp, on their own they are fantastic. But then you top them with the creamy zesty collard dip, and you're just transported to appetizer heaven. All told, I'll continue to be a happy patron of Kau, and look forward to more meals there!

Yelp
Excellent food!! The salmon was cooked to perfection with a perfect crispy skin. Brussels Sprouts were also great. If you like spice in your drink try their spicy margarita!! Very friendly staff. The atmosphere is cool and not pretentious. But the food is as good as any upscale "stuffy" restaurant in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is one my favorites in Greensboro! With everything from great cocktails to amazing food this place is a staple in this city. Great ambiance, huge building with history. The food is phenomenal, everything is fresh and made well. They have the best Brussel sprouts and you can't go wrong with any of their entrees. Great service as well! Our waiter specifically today was pretty awesome. Overall this place is awesome!

Yelp
I was there for a group gathering this time, so I enjoyed sampling a few of their dishes. The Cajun wings were fantastic, and the collard dip blew my mind it was so good. The wines they selected for our outing were fantastic - - I was impressed with the Chardonnay and the red blend they had available for us, but everyone I spoke to who had wine was very impressed.

Yelp
The oysters are my new favorite thing. Thoroughly enjoyed my last visit. We sat on the outdoor deck which was perfect for the weather. The service was excellent the wait staff were very attentive and never let a glass run dry. I very much enjoyed each way they prepared their oysters. Both baked and raw were excellent! The Prosecco was crisp and effervescent and a delightful pairing. I cannot wait to return for another serving of oysters!

Yelp
The atmosphere was that of a trendy spot. Come as you are. Not loud but a low rumble. Ordered the spicy margarita. Very good. Good pour. Ordered the sausage dip. Was not disappointed. This could be a meal if more was served. Kayla P was our server and she did not disappoint. She kept on coming back to ensure that our needs were met. She recommended that my pork chop be cooked medium. She chose well. Collard greens were a bit spicy. But that just made them better. Mash potatoes were okay. Can't really do wrong with them. Short ribs were cooked to perfection. That will be my next meal. All in all a very good place to go. Rarely do I give five starts. Well deserved.

Yelp
Ordered: Collard Dip, Butcher Burger, and Brussel Sprouts. This is my 2nd time at Kau. My first visit was back in 2022. Unfortunately, I don't remember what main dish I tried back then but the appetizer left a great enough impression that I ordered it when I revisited this month. The collard dip was and still is 5/5! It was a hit at my table for other people who came here for their first time. I'd like to note that if you have any leftovers, they warm up well at home. I asked my waiter their opinion on sides since I was stuck between choosing the Brussel sprouts or the Broccoli. When they explained the Brussel sprouts were tossed in a a vinaigrette along with other seasonings, I was convinced to order it as my side. 5/5 and I devoured it before I touched my burger. The Butcher burger I didn't eat more than 2 bites of, not because I didn't want to eat my food but because I rushed out of the house to come here for dinner by grabbing the first shirt I saw. A WHITE shirt. I couldn't have been angrier at myself because anytime I wear white and go out to eat, I get a stain from food. I chose to take the burger home to eat another time. I warmed it up in the oven the following day and it was still juicy and flavorful. I'd also like to report I managed to survive my food outing with no spots on my white top thankfully. I'd recommend you come here for a date, friends outing, birthday outing, anything really.

Yelp
Kau remains a personal favorite, and I have probably eaten here over 30 times since it morphed from the rather disappointing Natty Greene's about 4 years ago. I had visited the Natty Green's once and was not impressed - they seemed confused as to what kind of restaurant they would be, couldn't pull off a more upscale version while retaining their pub DNA! When Kayne took over the whole operation, he started to build the restaurant he had invisioned. While it retained some of the Pub/Burger basics of Natty's, it moved forward to a more upper level restaurant offering some excellent beef choices as a focal point. And their attractive, modern style bar became another draw, as did the plentiful outside seating (some of which is covered) for both food and drink. Before Covid changed the restaurant landscape, this place offered lunch for 3 work days & Sat, with Brunch/Lunch on Sun. I was here for 2 or 3 meals week, almost always for the Brunch offerings, outside when the weather permitted. The bar crew here was among the very best I've seen since Robert ran the crew at Fleming's in the mid 20- teens! They lost some stalwarts during the pandemic but reloaded well - though Vicky will always be missed! The food here is not inexpensive, at least at first glance, but the portions, especially on the sandwiches (mindful of Jake's Billiards), same with many Brunch items! The same can't be said for much of of the pure meat offerings, pricey and escalated big time after Covid - especially a real favorite the Lamb Chops! I will simply parade the pictures of the amazing items I've enjoyed here, it is hard to go wrong with most options, which changes during seasonal movement! Go to the bar, they will treat you right!

Yelp
Came here for date night and loved it. Seating is first come, first serve, so if you show up on a Friday night like we did getting a table may be a bit tricky. We ended up sitting at the bar, but it was great! Yummy drinks, the caprese salad was amazing and perfect, and had great burgers!! Gluten-free friendly as well which is a plus for my BF. It's in an old mill, so the vibe is super cool, but not necessarily what I would consider high-end and can be a bit noisy but we had no issues with this.
google avatar

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Greensboro. A great menu and a great atmosphere. It's open , spacious , and has a clean yet industrial vibe . The food is always great. I'm a big fan of their starters.

Naomi L.

Yelp
Reservation for 7pm, seated after 8pm. Orders not taken til 8:30pm. Still no food at 9:05pm. Waitress avoided us. It's a horrible situation. Ruined our family's Father's Day Outing. Avoid coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
The brisket sandwich with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts was delish. AND, the famous cheese dip is worthy of the reviews,, esp with the hot,, puffy pita points. The service was attentive, helpful in describing items... and the speed of very hot food arriving to table was great. The small indoor eating area was very noisy as we expected with its setting...not a place for cozy conversations.

Fioanna R.

Yelp
So we had several group reservations for parties of 8 because that's the highest they can go. Some of the groups weren't able to show up but they were very accommodating! We started off with the collard green dip and the soul food egg rolls (I forgot to get pictures). I'm not a fan of cheese period but that's just me. But they were accurately prepared and cooked just as described. The collard green dip had a very good taste. I just wish it stayed hotter longer. My entrée was delicious!!!! The short ribs were tender, tasty and I had enough to take home! My first time here but it won't be my last!

Yelp
Staff is amazing very friendly and helpful food is great ! Best steak I ever had ! Building is astonishing!

Excellent food, very good service and a cool atmosphere (converted warehouse) I would go back - in fact, we'll definitely be back soon!!!

Yelp
Hey family. I scooted by Kau yesterday as I was in the area. I've been to this place many times and the service and quality has not changed for me. I'm always greeted and the staff is very attentive. I particular like to go on Thursdays as they have $5 Prosecco which is very tasty. They did have some Valentine's week specials but I kept it simple and ordered an app and tacos. One thing about this place is that you get your monies worth. I did finish my sausage dip but was only able to eat one of the tacos. I had the blue steer tacos with arugula, red onion, blue cheese and steak. I keep forgetting to upload photos when I come here because I'm just enjoying the atmosphere. Everything is fresh and they do have an in house butcher. I've tried most items on the menu and they do not disappoint. When you're in the area, check this place out. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
The food and service at Kau was amazing. Our host Eddie was very friendly & we had the best time with our server Kiera & trainee Lindsay. This is my 2nd time at Kau. I ordered the beef spare rib bowl both times but substituted mash potatoes for the collards tonight.. great choice! The spare ribs were juicy & fork tender just like the first time & the collards had a great zing with a reminence of good ole pot liquor. Appetizers were equally delicious. Our table ordered the scallops & calamari. The ginger sauce that accompanies the scallops could easily be bottled & sold.

Yelp
Stopped by Kau this past weekend finally and was not disappointed! Located at Revolution Mill, Kau has both a restaurant and butcher shop here. We sat outside this particular evening as it was about an hour wait to sit inside, granted this was peak dinner time so understandable. Thankfully the weather was perfect and there were umbrellas at all tables to shade us from the sun. Our server was super nice and attentive the whole evening, offering multiple recommendations for both apps and main entrees. I started off the evening with the Kau Sunset, a refreshing cocktail to cool off. I then opted for the Beef Tip Bowl, Beef tips in gravy with mashed potatoes and broccolini. I was pleasantly surprised by this bowl. The meat was tender and the gravy was a perfect consistency and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were the best combo of smooth with bits of whole potatoes throughout, and the broccolini was roasted and seasoned wonderfully. We will most definitely be back to try some other appetizers and dishes that sounded amazing!

Yelp
There's been so much hype about this restaurant and I love brisket so we needed to see for ourselves. This place is very busy, interior is very nice as well as the outdoor bar. Our waitress was amazing and very helpful navigating items on menu. They offer seating at the bar, traditional seating and outdoor seating. We chose to eat inside. We ordered the collard dip and soul rolls for an appetizer, brisket mac n cheese, grilled salmon. The dip and soul rolls were really good, the brisket Mac n cheese was way overrated, the sauce was good, but not enough brisket for me to say it was good and the Mac cheese was just ok. The salmon was served skinned side up, which initially made it look blackened and was overcooked. I also ordered a blackberry lemonade cocktail it was a 10/10. I was underwhelmed by my food experience, I would definitely go back for appetizers and drinks.
google avatar

Kara M.

Yelp
Kau was really good when it first opened-service wise & ambiance. Now it's just meh... A menu overhaul is in order as there's really not a lot of variety and the food is just ok. Also, portions are questionable & vary considerably from person to person & different days. Another gripe-no matter how empty it is there, they won't seat you right away. Makes absolutely no sense.

Yelp
Had the best Crab-cakes!! My husband had a sirloin and it was perfect. The service was excellent. Loved everything about our dinner last night!!

Yelp
My favorite nachos ever! Before I can even look at the menu I've ordered the nachos. I always get the slaw on the side and add it as desired, but the combo of crispy chips, queso, pulled pork, sweet and spicy sauce, and cool creamy slaw is out of this world. The brisket Mac was also a hit at our table! A heaping portion of very cheesy Mac with saucy brisket. Their meats are always cooked and seasoned to perfection. The charcuterie included a pimento cheese that we all loved with the crackers. Cocktails are also fun here! We opted for wine this time, but love the spicy Margarita (it's got some heat!). The parking is a little far from the restaurant as you have to walk across a bridge to get around to the entrance, but it helps to burn off the extra calories.

Yelp
My 3rd time here, one of our favorite places to eat in Greensboro. Their hand held brisket sandwich is so tender. If you order it, ask for a side of their bbq sauce, it truly makes it complete. I had the brussel sprouts as my side, and it is delicious. Caramelized and tender! We shared a large order of fries which were fried to perfection. My friend got a Philly cheese steak that she said was as good as the ones in Philly that she's tried. The restaurant is so cool as it used to be a factory warehouse, so it has super high ceilings and exposed brick and ducts. Love it here! They have a great party room upstairs you can rent out as well for events.

Yelp
Met with friends last night for dinner. Kau is one of my favorite restaurants in Greensboro. They never disappoint and last night confirmed this. We started with their pulled pork nachos. The picture says it all. This is a fantastic appetizer. I was in the mood for comfort food so I got the meatloaf bowl. This is served with meatloaf, succulent mashed potatoes, green beans topped with gravy. This entree hit the spot, service was good and I love the casual dining atmosphere. Check them out.

Yelp
My wife had her work holiday party here this past week. The location is within Revolution Mill and is in a very cool building. Parking is easiest across from the wooden bridge unless you are lucky enough to find a spot right outside the front door. We also noticed they have a great patio area which would be perfect on a spring or summer evening. Inside there is a small shop and meat market and restaurant seating. Our event was being held upstairs in the loft area which allows larger groups (50-70 people) to enjoy a private area along with bar and restrooms away from the remainder of the restaurant. The food was served buffet style and featured items like Meatballs, Lobster Mac n Cheese, Veggies, Shrimp, Brisket and Dessert. The full service bar had everything from hard alcohol, beer on draft and bottled wine and non-alcoholic options as well. The service was very good as well and our group felt well taken care of. We really enjoyed it and thought the building itself was very cool too. We will definitely come back when it is just the two of us to further explore the menu!

Yelp
I came to Kau with a group of friends for a new years dinner to end 2022. I have heard many good things for so long but was really disappointed in our visit. We made a reservation but when we showed up and noticed the restaurant was only half full (if that) I should have taken that as a bad sign. The food and drinks were subpar and our server was slow and seemed incompetent. I don't know if this was because she was new or maybe didn't want to be working on the night of New Year's Eve. Just not what you'd expect from a more upscale restaurant with those prices. The presentation of the dishes were really underwhelming and it was sad when the flavors didn't make up for that. I am a big foodie and am almost always that "phone eats first" person, but with this meal I didn't even bother snapping any pics which was unfortunate. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Maybe I'd give them another chance, but at the price point, I just have a hard time Justifying going back since there are many other great restaurants in the area for the same cost or less.

Yelp
Reservations accepted, maybe encouraged if you're worried or have a large party, but not always needed. A very rustic and industrial vibe that keeps the history of Revolution Mill alive. The cocktails were delicious (an Old Fashioned is always my go to, and totally held up)! The blackberry lemonade is fantastic too. The burgers and wings are great portions and great tasting, along with every side I've tried!

Yelp
We came to Kau celebrating my son's graduation. He loves a good steak and reading reviews and drooling at the photos made Kau an obvious choice. The space has a cool industrial vibe with an open seating area and upstairs lounge above the main dining area and bar. The day we were there the lounge was closed for a private event so I couldn't go up to check it out. Kau also is known for their market that sells their hand cut meats among other things. Unfortunately they close early so I wasn't able to check it out either. Our servers were friendly and attentive. Right away, our drink and appetizer order was taken. We had a party of 7 and with all the specifics of each member of our party I felt our servers did a wonderful job. I really wanted to absolutely love this place but one star was lost just due to value for the money. I knew it would be on the upper end of my price point I usually go for but, I'm usually super impressed with quality of places like this so it feels worth it. This place was a bit of a loss on this point for me. Other people in our party had a different opinion here though. Now about the food- I have a steak loving son so the whole reason we came was for this. He, of course ordered a steak but when I asked him how it was he said "It was OK". Now, he's an aspiring chef so he knows how he likes his steak and also how to cook one. Other people in our party that ordered a steak absolutely loved theirs though. I actually wasn't in the mood for steak so ordered a poke bowl. I was happy there was a lighter choice available. When it arrived I noticed it was quite heavy on the rice. I liked the poke portion a lot but was quite disappointed that most of the bowl was full of rice. I like rice but it was easily 2 cups of rice so there was no way I even made a dent. I really wish there was a 1/2 salad 1/2 rice ratio there instead of all rice. We indulged in dessert too and ordered a few of the options they had. The star of the dessert menu though was absolutely the chocolate mousse my oldest son ordered. Wow! I couldn't get enough! I may stop in just for this and an appetizer alone. I hope they never take this off the menu. I'll may try Kau again and order a steak to see if I can give that a try. In the meantime, the memory of that amazing chocolate mousse will be the thing that draws me back.

Yelp
So after going to this place for the third time last night, it's officially my favorite restaurant in Greensboro. The restaurant is so beautiful inside and out, the drinks are delicious, staff is very friendly, and the food is always on point! Im obsessed with their pita bread. I crave it all the time now. I've always ordered the sausage dip and collard dip and it never disappoints. The sausage dip comes with tortilla chips, I suggest you sub the chips with the pita bread! So good! The steak tacos were better than the tuna tacos. I feel the tuna tacos need a little more sauce, maybe soy sauce if some sort? Not sure but they're still good. The short ribs were off the bone tender! It came with collards & mashed potatoes, very good and filling! I can't wait to come back and try more items on their menu. I hear their brunch is good, so might be the next time I go.

Yelp
Look no further for the best quality in meats, cheeses, condiments and literally everything. Plus the owners are the nicest people and go above & beyond to provide excellent service. The restaurant is gorgeous and you can tell they take pride in cleanliness. I love Kau!

Yelp
When I visit Kau I usually sit at the bar. I like the variety of beers that I sample. I really like the atmosphere. Customer service is always good with no long wait times. If you've never tried them you should visit soon.

Yelp
This was my first visit here and was very impressed with the lay out and its location. We had a fairly large party and called ahead for reservations. They have a large amount of seating upstairs and downstairs with a full bar area . Everyone at the table ordered a mix of things . Prices are a tad high but I guess that's expected with inflation. So many menu choices which make it hard to decide. My dish fell short with the flavor profile I ordered the steak salad which really didn't have any taste . But I tried a little bit of everyone's dishes . The brisket Mac n cheese was delicious. The ribeye steak was good could have used a little more flavor but it was cooked perfectly. The ahi Tuna was good but also could use another flavor element to elevate it ( maybe a drizzle of something since the Tuna is a tad dry. The wedge salad with grilled shrimp was simple . The salmon my aunt ordered looked delicious . All in all food was good, for the most part everyone enjoyed their meals and although the service was slow I know a lot of restaurants are running short staffed so I sympathize for that .
