NYC’s Best Dishes So Far in 2022, According to Eater Critic Ryan Sutton - Eater NY

Where to Find the Best Ceviche in NYC | Eater NY

"Peruvian ceviches (or cebiches) differ markedly from Mexican versions with their inclusion of lemon or bitter orange instead of lime juice, and the addition of potatoes, hominy, sweet potatoes, or corn kernels of various — sometimes-colorful — varieties. Kausa is a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant that specializes in Peruvian food, offering seven configurations of ceviche and four of tiradito — here consisting of sliced raw fish bathed in a piquant fruity sauce." - Patty Diez

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week, May 2022 - Eater NY

"As a brief heat wave gripped the city on Saturday night, I found myself craving cold beers and hot meat skewers. Usually I seek out a proper Uzbek or Japanese restaurant for this sort of thing, something along the lines of Farida or Yakitori Totto, but I decided to roll the dice on a relative newcomer this time, the Peruvian-themed Kausa in Hell’s Kitchen. And in no time at all I was sipping cool Andean lagers and using my fork to slide grilled corazon off hot metal rods. Kausa does a fine job with these traditional anticuchos ($13), the famous South American street snack of spiced and singed beef hearts. The meat itself sported complex layers of smoke and gaminess, while a veneer of sauce kept all the stronger flavors in check with notes of garlic, salt, and chile. — Ryan Sutton, chief critic" - Eater Staff

We stopped in late at night and we had never had Peruvian food before. They were so attentive to us and explained everything to us. The waitress and I believe the owner, was so kind, offered us a complimentary shot! Definitely will go back when we are in town.

short: I'm usually very generous with the stars, but this place truly has earned & deserves all 5 stars. I didn't want to leave. long: My friend's birthday is tomorrow so I planned to take her out for dinner. She wanted to go to a chicken place, so I started asking around for recommendations. There's this lady at the gym that I take classes with that all she talks about is having chicken for dinner, so her recommendation was the most valuable to me. She recommended two places on 9th Avenue. The first one she recommended is down the block, has many more reviews, but if you sort by recent reviews... not looking good, so I chose this place. I seriously don't remember the last time I enjoyed my experience at a restaurant so much. From the very beginning, I was greeted by the owner Teodoro, the hostess, and our waitress Maria, with such warmth that even if the food was just okay I was going to leave a good review for them anyway. I mentioned to the owner that I felt like I was in a museum with so much beautiful artwork. He informed me that a Colombian artist hand painted everything because they want to share their rich culture along with the food. Well, the food was amazing. This is my first time at a real Peruvian restaurant, Pio Pio in Queens is overrated trash, food & service straight-up trash, so this is the first authentic actually good Peruvian restaurant that I have been to. Much of the menu had names we are unfamiliar with so Maria did excellent job of explaining to us, and even did Google searches on her phone to show us the Peruvian vegetables that the sauces are made with. Based on her recommendations, we had the following: Parilla, which serves 3 people, basically a sampler bit of all the meats on there. The steak, chicken, and pork chop, which had a very nice smoky flavor like it was made in a bbq, all tasted fresh, well seasoned, and tender. We didn't eat the beef heart; the empanadas: beef, chicken, cheese: all perfectly crisp and fresh; the toasted corn with the delicious green sauce made with a Peruvian vegetable; the Pisco Punch...yummy & smooth. My friend had asked for hot sauce, and mistakenly, I thought it was the ketchup, and I found out how hot that thing was, but on a good note, it did taste natural, not artificial. Then they brought out an orange sherbert ice cream with a sparkler for my friend. The handwriting with the chocolate sauce was very nice, and the orange ice cream complemented the flavors of the food and the Pisco Punch. I didn't want to leave. I was thinking to myself, do I order more food? Should I order ice cream? We had such a great time. I used to work in a restaurant before, so I'm a generous tipper, but I broke my personal record this time: 45% cash tip. That's how happy I am with everything. Next time I go, I might break my personal record again. I highly recommend this place!

Everything from the different Ceviche's to the Jalea, to the ChiCha Morada and the dessert dishes were delicious and authentic. All staff was attentive and very kind. We had a wonderful experience here and cannot wait to come back! Next time we will try tie Pisco Sours. HUGE Thanks to Andres for making it a memorable dinner for my family and I! Definitely recommend them if you are in the city and craving some Peruvian plates.

Google
Authentic Peruvian cuisine, not just great food, but an incredible experience overall. It's a competitive advantage in the city. Recommended by friends, and now it's one of my favorite places to eat Peruvian food in the States. Birthday gift secured if you're tryna get ceviche. Andrea's service is a highlight! She's kinda cute

I’ve been here so many times and they are so great. The food is delicious, the service is great and the atmosphere is everything. I love it so much I keep coming back. Richardo is great too he always treats my family and I the best. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves great food, drinks and vibes.

Google
First time here, and on Peruvian Independence Day. The food was great, the service phenomenal and the atmosphere as well. The ceviche was great and highly recommend it, as well as the causa limeña. Only left out one star because the tacu tacu did not seem to be fried as traditionally done

Google
Excellent food! Came for the pollo but stayed for the seafood. The Corvina al lo Macho was cooked to perfection! More often than not at restaurants, squid and shellfish are cooked till they're more akin to a tire, but not at Kausa! I highly recommend Kausa when you're in the area!

Google
For our first time here at Kausa, we couldn’t have asked for better service, food, or atmosphere. Our server, Carlos, was by far one of the best servers we have had. He was incredibly attentive, and answered any of our questions we had. HUGE thank you to Carlos! Causa de pollo, pollo a la brasa, aji de gallina, ceviche mixto, and yuca frita was a 1000/10. Get the Lucuma for dessert!

Yelp
Food in the theater district is hard - usually it isn't so great! But this one actually served decent Peruvian food! Food: we ordered a few of the the mister kausa, kausa limena, plata del mar, and the Tallarin Salteado Chicken! I would recommend all of the dishes! They were really flavorful and enjoyable! Ambience: nice spot with a good location to Broadway Service: good attentive service Price: reasonable for quality and quantity

Yelp
The food is mediocre and the service is absolutely terrible. I've been here twice and both times the food was equally bland. On my last visit the waitress overcharged me. I have called two times trying to resolve this and both times I was told there is no manager available. I left my number for a manager to call me back and instead the waitress who overcharged me called me back and over a week later this is still not been resolved. Bland overpriced food is already bad enough in a place like Hell's Kitchen where there are so many options but to overcharge people and not have a manager available to resolve the issue. It's unacceptable.

Yelp
So, so good! Fun atmosphere too. I looked for a place near the The New World Stages that would be interesting for my husband and I, yet also have something for my picky teenager. I had the grilled chicken plate and my husband a ceviche and the beef hearts. My kid ended up helping me with the chicken, it was so good. Totally recommend this place before a play, or really anytime.

Yelp
Kausa was highly rated on google maps so decided to check it out after walking by so many times. Ordered the tuna ceviche and the macho. Had the worst experience here. First of all, we waited close to an hour for our food. Second, we saw that they've already had the prepared ceviche just sitting out and not being served to us for close to 50 mins. Then they proceeded to serve it to us and the fish became massively overcooked and tough cause it was sitting in the lime for ages. We had it replaced. They obliged. Ceviche was not great. I've had much better elsewhere. Skippable. Got the macho rice thing. This was actually pretty good. Big portion. Also asked for a pisco sour which never came. At that point, we were just annoyed after repeatedly following up on our order and being hangry and waiting for ages. Overall, while some of the food was great, the service was pretty horrible. Maybe it was a one off and we got unlucky, who knows. The ambience inside was also in need of an update. The lighting inside felt very dark and did not match the nice vibe they had outdoors in the patio.

Yelp
Everything was just amazing, especially love the seafood soup and the lomo. Lots of interesting dishes not found at most Peruvian restaurants

Yelp
I ordered the Tacu Tacu here. It was definitely good food. I was just already too full and over ordered. I can sorta tell it was delicious but you know that feeling when you feel like you're about to burst, you get a lot of gas, and you don't feel like eating: but the taste buds are tingling? Yeah that's what was going on. But the key phrase there is the taste buds tingling. Cause they did. On a side note the service was good and the bathroom was easy to find.

Yelp
I've heard a lot about Kausa but today was my first time trying them out. I ordered a meal for takeout. They have several lunch specials which I considered but I ultimately went with the half chicken deal (a steal at $9- they give you a huge chunk!) and a side of rice and tostones. This came out to just under $25. I was a bit surprised that the price of the rice side was $6, but when I saw the portion size, it seemed a lot more reasonable. It's a whole container full. Likewise for the tostones. The tostones were really good too- crispy and not too greasy. The chicken came with two sauces (which I haven't tried yet)- a green one (cilantro based I believe) and an orange garlic-based one. The rotisserie chickwn was so juicy and well seasoned. It's one of my favorite things to order from Peruvian restaurants. Next time I need to try the Kausa (causa) (the namesake of the restaurant). It didn't really catch my eye but if it's as good as what I ordered, I'd be open to trying it!

Yelp
My friend and I tried the chicha morada, chaufa combo, and ceviche de camarones. We loved the chicha morada! Super tasty and it was my friend's first time trying this drink. She loved it! The Chaufa combo (rotisserie chicken) was delicious as well. The chicken wasn't dry, super flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The fried rice that came with it was really good as well and very flavorful. We loved the fried rice. Salad was also good. Good portion to split with someone if you are not that hungry! The ceviche de camarones (cooked shrimp) was the only thing we didn't enjoy on our visit. It was definitely a let down and underwhelming. The shrimp were small and not cut up like shrimp ceviche usually is served.. it also lacked any flavor in it. The juice just didn't taste good or fresh. I would not recommend this dish. Service was quick and friendly. The server was on top of checking back and filling our waters but never came to ask if everything tasted ok or not. Overall good. I would order the chaufa combo again but probably get it to-go instead of dining in. There are better Peruvian restaurants in the area. Most likely won't be back anytime soon.

Yelp
I'm not usually one to choose a restaurant in the most touristy part of town but traveling with a friend who (is Peruvian) chose to eat dinner here. It feels more like a night club inside than somewhere you would sit down and eat dinner. We were sat immediately. Service was fairly quick but gradually got slower as the meal went on. The ceviche was great. Being pregnant we had to go with a ceviche with all well cooked seafood (so basically only shrimp). My main dish was less than. I ordered a risotto dish however the grain was simply rice. It lacked flavor and the rice was slightly undercooked. I did taste my friends dish and it seemed subpar to me as well. Lacked flavor and was just very plain. Fair pricing for location but meal was subpar overall and felt like I was eating in a nightclub.

Yelp
A fairly bland meal here, unfortunately. And as others have noted, inside it is very very loud -- we were there on a weeknight and the place was almost empty. And the music was blaring; can't really imagine being able to hold a conversation if the place is full. I had the aji de gallina which was rather disappointing -- not much flavor at all to the sauce. (The chicken itself was fine.) Husband ordered the lomo saltado. He didn't have any complaints, but wasn't particularly wowed either. The ceviche, I will say, was pretty good -- certainly the highlight of the meal. Service was friendly and fast. This place is fine, don't get me wrong. It's just not great -- and there are a lot of great dining options in the neighborhood.

Yelp
Best ceviche in NYC! Hand down! Have the ceviche de corvina and tostones. Add sangria and you have a wonderful meal! The best!!

Yelp
I avoided this place for the longest time because it always looked like a crazy tiki bar on meth from the outside. I highly doubted the food would be authentic, let alone good. I was wrong. I submit to the gods of pulsing blue lights. The Mister Kausa was one of the best kausas I've had outside of Peru (and I've had a lot of kausas). The Fetuccini a La Huancaína was packed with a generous helping of plump shrimp in a deliciously savory ají amarrillo sauce with perfectly al dente noodles. The Chupe De Camarones was similarly generous--a portion that could easily feed two packed with seafood, ají panca, rice, and poached egg. We rounded things out with a refreshing Chicha Morada and Pisco Sour, the cocktail by which all Peruvian restaurants must be judged. Kausa's PS was straightforward but top notch. Please forgive me, Gods of Pulsing Blue Lights! As penance, I will be return.

Yelp
My friend was in the mood for good Peruvian chicken and I remembered this place. The place was nice and clean and service was great. We started with the happy hour frozen margaritas which were nicely booked up. We had the Leche de Tigre for appetizer which was not particularly great tasting but it sure was fresh; The Tamal Limeño was surprisingly good. For entres we shared the Combo Killer and the Parrillada. Everything was great and sufficient for the 3 of us. We couldn't finish it all, had enough for tomorrow's lunch! The chicken wasn't as great as we expected but it was still very good. The parrillada was lacking some flavor, the pork-chop was really dry but it did the trick. Though it wasn't perfect it did hit the spot for all three of us. What we enjoyed the most was the tostones and the garlic sauce. While we were having dinner, mariachis came in at 2 different times to play a few songs. This was a delightful surprise. Definitely will come back again for the drinks, the service and the food!

Yelp
I went to this excellent Peruvian spot with two others several months ago. We sat outside which you unfortunately can't really do right now but I would almost recommend doing so as it was definitely too loud inside. Whether it was the music or the number of people, the inside is party-like for better or for worse (in my opinion for worse but whatever if they're getting business.) The server was friendly though most Spanish spots seem to be a bit happier once I start ordering in Spanish. To drink, I had the Pisco Sour though I got the Maracuyá or Passion Fruit version. This was $14 regardless of the fruit flavor and it came with said pisco, fresh lime juice, gum (or gomme) syrup, and a touch of bitters. This was an excellent version of this classic cocktail and I would recommend it. As per basically every other Peruvian spot, they gave us some cancha (i.e. toasted corn/corn nuts) to munch on with some aji to dip in while waiting for our food. To start, I thought of getting one of their kausa but as I was planning on getting something more filling as a main dish and because I wanted to start with something a bit cheaper, I went with a tamale. I had the Tamal Limeno with Peruvian yellow corn dough, with shredded chicken and traditional criolla. This is listed as $8 or similar. The portion size was decent for the price with moist chicken inside with a decent texture and it came with a nice little pickled onion salad with a little bit of choclo/Peruvian white corn which was a nice touch. The portion was good but the flavors were decent in short. The other person had the Solterito Vegetariano which is apparently a salad from Arequipa. This consisted of chickpeas, lima beans, fresh cheese, tomatoes, onions, choclo, and black olives and house dressing. The salad was $13 and it had a nice mixture of textures from the squeaky cheese to the slight chew of the corn with a bit of saltiness to it as well. It was refreshing and tasty and I'd recommend it. The last person as per usual did not get an appetizer. My main dish was the Tallarín Saltado or Peruvian style fettuccine sautéed with tomatoes, onions, soy sauce and choice of meat. This is either $24 if you pick pollo/chicken but I went with the filet mignon for $27 (also available with shrimp for the same price.) I've had this Peruvian-Chinese dish a bunch of times and this was an outstanding version with a very big portion. The meat inside was tender and well flavored and there was plenty of it and the noodles were cooked well. It wasn't as salty as some other spots and overall I would highly recommend it and I eventually had to take home some of it due to the rather big portion. Another person had the Half Roast Chicken which was very reasonably priced at $11 along with a side of their Maduros or Roasted Sweet Plantains for $5. I tried a bit of the chicken which was tasty and tender though honestly if you're going to pay that much for the full size, you might as well get the excellent Ají de Gallina for a couple bucks more which the other person ordered though more recently I've had a much better version at a place in Forest Hills of all spots. The maduros were fine though I personally prefer the version done at Dominican spots as they tend to make them purposely a bit burnt to add some crispiness but for the style they were tasty. They also have a special on the menu with said chicken so that seems like a better deal also. We were too full for dessert so we didn't have. Overall, the food here was excellent. I wish it wasn't so loud inside as I would go back much sooner but if you can stand the noise or if you want to wait a few months till you can sit outside, I would recommend going here very heavily. Don't have many faults which is rare for spots such as these outside of the inside as overall all of the food was either excellent or good and at least for the area, the prices were decent with pretty big portions to boot.

Andrea G.

Yelp
Amazing food. Always a great time. Best pisco sours in town. Try the mixed ceviche with the spicy sauce.

Yelp
I came across Kausa looking to try something new. I met my friend for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was busy, but not packed inside. Everything we ordered was delicious - seasoned and prepared very well. Portions were pretty big (I packed some of my Tacu Tacu to go) so it's a good deal for the prices. We ended dinner with the dessert sampler. I personally am not a fan of alfajores, but it and everything else was good. I would dine here again since I was deciding between the Tacu Tacu and Grilled Octopus for my entree. Service was quick and very friendly.

Yelp
Food is delicious, atmosphere is fun, service is... not great. I came into Kausa while on a stroll one afternoon and really wanted ceviche. We sat down and waited for quite some time but not an egregious amount. Food came relatively quickly and was SUPER delicious. We got the combo chicken chaufa and salad, chicharron de pollo, and the classic ceviche. It was all delicious but we particularly like the chaufa!! We then had to wait very long for someone to realize we were done, and they forgot to give us our drinks but charged us so we had to sort that out. I personally didn't mind but I hope they sort their service issues out because the food is absolutely worth it!

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday night, and service was decently fast. We were seated right away as half the seats were available. The food were overall very average and not very flavorful. The ceviche was not fresh and lacking acid, and the lomo saltado was salty with mushy fries (side note, they asked us how we wanted the meat cooked, and we said medium rare, but it was very well done). The fried yuca was somehow very dry and tough, and the chicken with the fried rice was one-noted (salty). The seafood soup was pretty decent though. Overall, would not come back for a visit.

Yelp
Such delicious food! Great portion sizes and great ambiance. Came here for my friends birthday and a mariachi happened to be passing by so they sang for us which was a fun surprise! The place isn't too big but the food was great. I had the fettuccini with shrimp, so flavorful, highly recommend. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meal. Our server only checked on us once which was fine to me but if you are used to being checked on more often, don't be surprised if you don't get much attention here. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
I returned to Kausa with my boyfriend and a friend since I really liked their food the first time and was craving a good Peruvian meal-- my second time here did not disappoint! We had a reservation at 6:30pm on a Friday and were seated promptly inside. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The ambiance was lively and brightened by Hispanic songs. We got pisco sours again (two classics and one passion fruit flavored) which were very refreshing and foamy without being too sweet. For food I tried: Ceviche de Corvina: way better this time than my first time here! This dish was entirely redeemed for me. The fish was very tender and the flavor was delicious. Super refreshing and great for sharing. Pollo Saltado: tried a little bit of this from my boyfriend and really liked it! The chicken was well seasoned and coated in the meat/ sautéed vegetable juices and the saltado sauce which was just divine. Comes with rice and fries that were also good. Chicken was a bit dry but still good! Felt like a very good portion size. Corvina a lo Macho: I was pretty blown away by this. Pan seared white fish covered in this delicious red sauce and abundant seafood (squid, mussels, octopus). They are not skimpy with this dish and it could easily be two meals. The sauce is tomato based and rich but not spicy... it reminded me a lot of cazuela de mariscos for anyone who knows that dish. Comes with a nice portion of white rice which is fluffy and soaks up all the sauces and flavors. Would def get again. Maduros (side): didn't take a picture but if you want a nice mildly sweet side for balance, get the maduros! They are perfectly fried and so amazing. Alfajores: got these last time and liked them just the same. Very delicious traditional crumbly cookies with dulce de leche filling and powdered sugar. Amazing texture and perfect level of sweetness. Tres Leches: I'm very particular about what I consider a really good tres leches but this was fairly okay. It was a little bit too heavy on the condensed milk at the bottom for my taste but the cake itself was perfectly fluffy and uniformly moist which a lot of places struggle achieving. Really liked the texture! Would have been perfect if it had been only slightly less sweet but in terms of texture, probably the best I have had in NYC so far. As usual, very happy with my experience here again! This place is a gem and I will continue coming here for amazing and reasonably priced Peruvian food in Hell's Kitchen.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch. I really liked the cute and colorful interior, with cool paintings and blue-ish glow. It was also pretty spacious inside and there was a warm, inviting ambiance. I had to get the Tostones, and there was a very generous portion. They came with a garlicky sauce, and were so tasty! They were perfectly fried and delightfully crispy. For my entree, I ordered the Tacu Tacu, which consisted of filet mignon strips, Peruvian style rice and beans risotto, as well as a fried egg. I really enjoyed this dish! The filet mignon sautéed with onion and red peppers were tender, juicy, and wonderfully well seasoned. The rice and beans were yummy together, but I wouldn't call it risotto, because there was no cheese. The savory sauce was quite flavorful. The egg was a nice addition to the plate. All the ingredients worked well together. Service was great and our waitress was friendly. I would definitely return to try the Parillada (steak, pork chop, chorizo, chicken, salad, fries), Salmon, and dessert!

Michael H.

Yelp
Came for lunch. The mezcal cocktail I got was pretty good. No complaints there. The service was fine outside of the fact that I wqw served the wrong tiradito. The disappointing part was the food. I love a good aji amarillo sauce but this one was pretty bland. On the bottom end of aji amarillos I've had. The Tiradito I was served was not the one I ordered and was not very good. Overall it was not bad but was certainly disappointing.

CORA P.

Yelp
My husband and I had never been to a Peruvian restaurant. The server was patient with us in explaining the dishes. We ordered the ceviche mixto -- it was a generous portion of seafood with a delicious marinate. The server asked if we wanted it "spicy." We explained that we're used to the Mexican food from Phoenix, so it came out JUST RIGHT. It was spicy enough to get the tingle, but not so spicy that you're unhappy. We also tried the "kausitas" -- it's an appetizer of three of the causas. They were presented beautifully and tasted even better. My husband was able to carefully cut them in two so we could share. I'm glad that we tried something new. They were really good. We didn't order an entree because there's a new gelato place just up the street (Gelatoville), and we went there for dessert.

Yelp
Firstly, this review is long overdue. I've visited this location more times than I can count and it's definitely my most favorite Peruvian Resturant in NYC. If you want repeat visits from me, consistency is key; Kausa is very consistent with the quality of deliciously well cooked food and amazingly friendly service. In addition, the atmosphere is so fun! (Drinks, drinks and music) Secondly, I stop by on occasion after a long day's work for take out because I don't feel like cooking; it's that good! Go see and taste for yourself.

Yelp
Amazing spot! Came here for some bites and a drink and was blown away. I ordered the Maracuya (Passionfruit) Pisco Sour, the Ceviche de Aguacata, Fried Calamari, and the Kausa Limeña. Everything came out so fast and was amazing from presentation to taste.

Yelp
It was fine! Came in for dinner with my boyfriend after a trip. Ambiance was nice inside, not too crowded and you had your space. We went ahead and started with papa a la huancaína, was excited as that is one of my favorite dishes, but it wasn't mind blowing. After, I got the ají de gallina and it was pretty good! Lots of food so I got some leftovers. This was my second Peruvian restaurant in the city, still not exactly what i'm looking for!

Yelp
We were in town to hear some music and decided to check out this place, a few blocks from our hotel. We discovered Peruvian cuisine a few years ago and even have a few cookbooks- so we were excited to try this place as there were a lot of interesting items on the menu. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who sat us quickly at the bar. Our bartender, Walter, was charismatic, answering all of our questions about food and drinks and even offering up a little geographic info about Peru. We both started with pisco cocktails which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were given a complimentary corn snack served with two very tasty dipping sauces. It was hard to decide on what to eat but since neither of us was starving- we landed on the chef's choice of ceviche, avocado salad and a side of plantain chips. Everything was delicious and we couldn't finish it all. We definitely plan to return and try some of the other menu options. Highly recommend them.

Yelp
What else can one ask for when this place offers attentive and friendly services plus delicious food! We ordered the lomo saltado, ceviche de Corvina, and tres leches. For drinks, we tried the traditional pisco sour and pisco sour maracuya. If this is your first time having a pisco sour, order the traditional one. Lomo saltado was tender and juicy. You can't go wrong with that! The ceviche was flavorful and fresh. The list of ceviche choices was extensive, so ask your waiter for the recommendation. The only thing that was slightly disappointing was the tres leches - it was covered in whipped cream, which overpowered the taste of the cake.

This place is soooo good. The food, the service, the ambiance! This was my first time having Peruvian food and wow!! I want to come back. We were invited by my husband's friend who had been several times before. Everything was delicious and our server was so sweet. 10 out of 10 recommend

Yelp
Came in with a bottomless brunch deal from Pulsd. Seamless tranaction on that part. Either have the printed voucher or even easier, the QR code screenshot onto your phone. Easy peasy. The hostess was very nice. While the full party hasn't arrived she let me sit and wait anyway probably because it wasn't at peak brunch hour yet. Nonetheless much appreciated. The space is cozy and nice. I love the ambiance in the daylight and surely night time as well. Now, the deal states 60 minutes unlimited drinks based off the brunch menu offering. However, you can only select one choice the entire time for unlimited. So if you have 2 people in your party, it would be wise to just order two different types of drinks so you can just go back and forth with that without hassle. Larger parties, then you might be able to try all of them. The frozen margaritas were on point and the mimosas are you know mimosas. Lol. The food. Peruvians are known for their lomitas so of course that is what to order. Flavors are amazing and presentation was top notch even for brunch. The hanger steak was equally good but less of a presentation more of a standard brunch item. The desserts, Peruvian ice cream tasted a lot like Thai Iced Tea which I loved and the Peruvian Chocolate Cake was quite rich. Excellent offerings. I really enjoyed the brunch here and I can't wait to revisit to try their dinner offerings + ambiance. FAN.

Yelp
On Sunday, March 17, I went with the family for the first time to celebrate my son Adrian's birthday, we had a great time, the food was great. I have worked for a long time at the Hirohisa Restaurant in Soho, which has had a Michelin star since 2017 and I found the Peruvian food excellent. (I am Peruvian). I recommend it. The lomo saltado is really filet mignon and cooked to perfection, delicious corvina a lo macho, picante de Camarones, arroz chaufa with chicken and not to mention the pineapple pisco sour the best, etc.

Yelp
The service was abominable. After the waitress took our order she never checked back. Our drinks practically came with our food. Food is overpriced and portions very small. She forgot one of our drinks but she sure was quick to bring the bill. Staff acts like they could care less that you're there. Avoid this place. Overpriced bad service and only staff only moves fast when it's time to pay. Oh yes and as we were done the waitress tried to give us the missing drink. ???? Like I could take it on the road?

Yelp
Something about the charming, up-beat music coupled with the bright colors makes thing place feels appropriately in place for the Hell's Kitchen feels. It's a good work / friend dinner place but a lil exhaustive. The ceviche is the go to! I wish I got a picture of the tuna ceviche but we ate it too fast and I was hungry. It was well seasoned, the fish tasted really fresh, very cirtrusy (I like citrus but I don't like the word citrusy, sounds like a Gen Z euphemism). They did have these little corn(?) crunch things on the table that did not amuse me but were good during the wait. A great night. And the ceviche was fairly priced for what it tasted like. Anyway, go!

Yelp
Our second visit to Kausa was less satisfying than the first. For one thing, the menu seemed to have been changed and reduced, and two of the dishes we much enjoyed in March, the Tiridito No. 1 and Picante de Camarones were not listed on the printed menu we were given, although three Tiridito dishes are still listed in the online menu. My wife ordered the same grilled octopus dish she had the last time but found it less interesting because it was not as well seasoned. Perhaps that was because I failed this time to tell the server that we like things very spicy and want them prepared just as they would be served in Peru, not toned down for American tastes. The dish I had, Salmon Quiniotto, consisted of a large piece of grilled salmon on a porridge-like bed with various chopped vegetables mixed in. The salmon was of very good quality and was well cooked, but could have used more seasoning. The Kausa appetizer we had was good, as were the Tres Leches cake, the double espresso, and the pisco sour drinks. After the drinks and the appetizer were delivered promptly, we were surprised at how long it took the kitchen to come up with the entrees, especially since, at around 5:30 to 6:00 on a Tuesday, the restaurant was practically empty. We had to sit there for a long time waiting for our food. From our experience and other reviews, it appears that the restaurant has some issues with consistency.

Yelp
Came here for a celebration with my partner. We were immediately seated in the small but cute outdoor space. Service at this restaurant is excellent and friendly. I had my puppy with me and without me even asking they brought my dog water. Food was delicious. We tried the ceviche sampler and All were unique from one another and delicious. My mango pisco sour was so good. The anticuchos were tasty too. At the end they brought us out ice cream and pisco shots for our celebration. Food was delicious. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Love this spot for their chicken and ceviche! The bar is also bustling and serving up solid pisco sours. FAVORITES: - Half Chicken: tender & juicy! 5/5 - Leche de Tigre: ceviche with shrimp, fish and loaded with lime, spices and onion. They reduced the portion size since April so it is now served in a standard wine glass. Regardless, so refreshing and zesty!

Yelp
I had the white sangria and it was delicious and strong!!! I only sat at the bar so I didn't try the food but from what I saw people ordering around me, it looked delicious! Definitely going to return soon to try the food and have more drinks. It's also really nice inside in terms of decor. Staff was friendly :)

Yelp
Best deal for dinner in the city. A whole chicken, fries and a salad for $31. Enough for 2 people plus leftovers. Chicken and geeen sauce are chefs kiss. Restaurant itself is nothing fancy but it's just a local spot so it's fine.

Yelp
Food, drinks and service were all amazing! Came on a Tues and sat at the bar. It wasn't too busy but there were a few groups there. Right away, the bartender was really friendly and informative. We had never had Peruvian cuisine before so we had a couple questions. We got pisco sours to drink and the ceviche de corvina. Corvina is a pretty mild white fish that paired really well with the other ingredients. The flavor was on point! And a good size too. It was mixed with sweet potato and corn nuts which was a unique twist. The drinks were great as well! Not too sour or sweet.

Yelp
I have only tried the east and west coast oysters from here and they were delicious! I did get some shell chips I had to spit but maybe it was hard to shuck a few? There was a deal on grubhub and great price for the oysters! My fav. The best are the east coast ones. Salty and so good. The west coast are smaller and a little on the sweeter side. Next time I would ask for all east coast and cross my fingers lol. But I enjoy them all. I delivery arrived on time and they were cold. No spills. I'd totally order from here again!

Yelp
The service was great. Refilled our waters. Didn't rush us out after we paid for the bill. The staff ran out to get me when I forgot my purse at the table. Food was delish. Got the kausa combo. So worth getting a whole chicken for 2 people. The avocado salad was just okay, I'd get the whole chicken ($18) next time and then add on some other sides. The chicken was so tender and juicy. Some might say the skin was a bit salty, but I loved it. It's just what I wanted from a rotisserie chicken!

Yelp
Man Oh Man! I want to start by saying that I've eaten at over 100 restaurants in NYC & this was by far, one of the WORST services I've EVER experienced in my life! So, my Wife & I live near Hell's Kitchen so after a busy couple of months, we decided to not do too much for our Mother's Day but because it was our first, we would just go down the strip & find somewhere "nice" to eat for brunch. We stumbled upon Kausa where the hostess outside was nice, the decor was beautiful and the menu was our vibe so we were SOLD! HUGE MISTAKE! Unfortunately, we were sat with the server WENDY by the restroom with our stroller that already seemed to have annoyed her. She helped us place it where it wasn't in the way & we went on to look at the menu. This is where things went left. First problem: she didn't say "Happy Mother's Day" to two moms ON MOTHER'S DAY, barely acknowledged the occasion & our baby. Okay, Fine! Second problem: She offered us ONLY the regular menu & NOT the brunch menu that had the special. Once we asked for that, she says "I recommend you order off the full menu". When asked "Why?" She didn't have an answer. So you basically wanted us to spend more money... okay. Third Problem: she takes my brunch menu order that was the steak & eggs. She failed to ask how I like my eggs & I failed to inform her. When I get steak with egg whites (which I don't eat), I say "oh! I'm sorry... I don't eat egg whites. I forgot to say how I like them. Can I have them scrambled?" This lady looked at me like "what you want me to do about it?" Then proceeds to say "oh you didn't tell me so.....". Appalled was an understatement. You were supposed to ASK me & not FAULT me. If it was up to her, I would've sat there & ate egg whites. She ended up taking it back & this VERY NICE GUY brought it out to me. I couldn't thank him enough for some HOSPITALITY! Fourth problem: took my brunch menu order then walked away. We had to call her back to take my wife's order that wasn't on the brunch menu. Fourth problem: She gives a dessert menu. Now, dessert was included in my brunch. We choose, she brings it out. Fifth problem: we asked for the bill & the charged us for the dessert. When my Wife notices she says "oh! I got confused because she didn't order off the brunch menu so I brought out the regular dessert menu!" WHAT?!?! Then proceeds to QUICKLY SWIPE our card & I MISTAKENLY tipped her the the suggested cus she DIDNT DESERVE ANYTHING! Sixth problem: So because my brunch came with a dessert I didn't have, I asked for the chocolate cake to go! She said "no problem", takes forever to bring it out & I happen to open it today & look at the photo attached. In conclusion, people come to me often for restaurant reviews & I wouldn't a SOUL to step foot in this establishment. I hate to say this but I couldn't help but notice that we were the ONLY black family there & the only one getting this treatment. Coincidence! I could've made a big deal about the whole ordeal but we had our baby girl with us & again, it was our first Mother's Day so we wasn't going to let her misery tarnish our day!

Yelp
I went for an early dinner expecting the place to be dead as it was only 5:30. It was packed and hopping and now I know why. Drinks-crafty; food-authentic; service-friendly. Ate, drank, and then drank some more and there was no rush for us to leave so they could turn over the tables quickly. Moderately priced authentic and delicious Peruvian food.

Yelp
I like the Peruvian appetisers. And also their speciality drinks. This is one of the restaurants who serve substantial portions of each main course. Even some appetisers have mains sized portions.

Yelp
Came here for a night cap, and so happy we did . The place is beautiful, great music , warm people , and just a nice ambiance . Had the empanadas , and the antichucho. My friend also had her pisco drink, with the mixologist behind the bar . I can't wait to come back and recommend you give them a try too .
