The Cocktail Heatmap: Where to Drink Right Now in Portland

"Kaya is a sleek bar offering creative twists on classic cocktails from Katya Suh, the wife of NFL football player and restaurateur Ndamukong Suh. The cocktail menu was developed by consulting bartender Kyle Sanders and features drinks like the Hip-Hopper, a take on a grasshopper, and the New Fire with cachaça, Cynar, and banana liqueur. The bar also offers non-alcoholic mocktails, including a zero-proof piña colada. On the food side, the menu has bar snacks like spiced nuts, lemon pepper wings, and a cheeseburger." - Rebecca Roland, Janey Wong, Eater Staff

Drinks have potential as glassware looks fun & unique which are great for photos however mixology isn’t the best. Out of 5 cocktails RNS and Martini were very disappointing as flavors didn’t mixed correctly, very odd taste almost bitter to rancid. Live DJ outside the bar was a plus but keep in mind that it’s gonna be cold inside as well as doors won’t be closed. Recommend in the summer for a better experience.

I had such a great experience at Kaya! The bartender was absolutely amazing — super friendly, attentive, and clearly knows his craft. I asked him to surprise me with a mocktail, and wow… hands down the best mocktail I’ve ever had. Perfect balance of flavors, refreshing, and beautifully presented. The food was just as impressive. I ordered the burger and it was next-level delicious — juicy, packed with different kinds of meat, and topped with pineapple. As a Filipino, I’m a sucker for pineapple in everything, and this hit all the right notes. Sweet, savory, and satisfying. Highly recommend Kaya for both drinks and food — the vibe, service, and flavors are all on point!

This is a great date spot or for a fun night out with friends. The vibes and decor are sleek. The cocktails we got were great, we both got spirit forward drinks. I'll definitely be back again as I love the neighborhood. Did not try food the time I went.

From the moment you walk in, this bar exudes sophistication and style. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance warm and welcoming yet undeniably upscale. Dim lighting, tasteful decor, and a curated soundtrack create a luxurious atmosphere without feeling pretentious. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the craftsmanship behind the bar. The cocktail menu is inventive and flawlessly executed, offering a mix of elevated classics and imaginative originals. Every drink is a testament to top-tier ingredients and masterful technique. The bartenders are true professionals, knowledgeable, passionate, and attentive without being overbearing. Service is impeccable from start to finish, and the attention to detail from glassware to garnishes is unmatched. Whether you're there for a quiet evening or a celebratory night out, this bar delivers a consistently exceptional experience. A destination for anyone who values the art of a well-made cocktail and the luxury of great hospitality.

Kaya is hands down one of my favorite cocktail bars in Portland! The atmosphere is always welcoming, and the staff really make the experience special—Michael and Hana are absolute gems. Their energy, friendliness, and attention to detail keep me coming back. The cocktails are both fun and innovative, creative without being gimmicky, and always super well-balanced. And don’t sleep on the bar snacks, they’re the perfect complement to the drinks. If you’re looking for a spot with great vibes, fantastic drinks, and an amazing team behind the bar, Kaya is it.

I’m a Californian visiting Portland for the first time and made it my mission to visit as many black owned businesses as possible. Of course Kaya was on my list. Let’s start with the good! The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I especially loved the posters of black artists lining the walls. The service was also great. My waiter as well as a couple other staff regularly checked on me to to make sure I was okay. The biggest area for improvement would be the food and drink menu. The waiter did tell me that they’re undergoing some changes to the menu so there wasn’t much to choose from. I ordered the Puff Puff Pass to drink and the chicken wings to eat. The drink was a 7/10 and the wings a 5/10. There was absolutely no flavor to the wings. I asked the waiter for a dipping sauce and she said they didn’t have any. She was kind enough to offer to go to the restaurant next door to grab some but I said it was okay. I feel like this place has A LOT of potential and I want to see it do well. However at this time, there’s a lot of room for growth. The food and drink, which is the main reason people come, is very subpar.

Kaya has a cool, urban atmosphere and beautiful decor, but the staff truly sets it apart. Michael, the bartender, is fantastic and really knows his craft, making everyone feel right at home. The rest of the team is just as friendly and attentive as well. They have great music and a cool, 90s hip hop vibe. It is a must visit spot, but keep in mind that it does get busy, so reservations might not be a bad idea.

This is women owned place! Great place for hanging with your dog also! Happy hour on weekend why not? Loved the crafted drinks both with and without alcohol! Food was delicious! Will be going back!
