Kazzan Ramen DTLA

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I randomly stumbled upon this place looking for somewhere to get curry and this place did not disappoint. My mom ordered a ramen and I got curry as I planned. The food came quickly, the wait staff were all super sweet and the taste of the food was top tier. Best curry I’ve ever had and generally a terrific experience. Highly recommend!!

Update 11/18/2024: This is a very good lunch special. I think you would be very lucky to come here. They do an amazing job of having a clean presentable restaurant and the service is very friendly but I absolutely love the Ramen!! If you want a good affordable lunch come try the Ramen and get the three dollar side. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. I may not be able to pronounce most of the items, but the spicy Ramen that I got in addition to the three pieces of deep fried chicken were well worth every bite! They do a lot to keep this place presentable and they have outdoor seating. Stop by now. ! You have to have the volcano Ramen dessert dish, but I tried the lunch special which for $17 you get a bowl of Ramen plus a side dish! And the idea of Ramen being a full-blown meal has occurred to me since college but I did not regret eating here the service is great. The atmosphere is incredible. The seats are comfortable and there’s outdoor seating as well as indoor. The bar is massive… But the soup? Or the Ramen? Was unreal. Good I loved it so much. I wish I wouldn’t eat so fast.! Ordered the pork Ramen

Excellent ramen with a thick and flavorful broth and a good supply of condiments at each table. Our server Angelic was very kind and attentive despite a lot of people coming in. We'll definitely come back!

Honestly this place is far and above other ramen places. The waiter I had chatted with me the entire time, shared his favorite dishes, and gave all sorts of suggestions. The location was great and ambiance even greater. Happy hour for cheap beers is a thing, and I will definitely be back for that and more ramen! Highly recommend.

The atmosphere and idea is great but the food and service is meh. We had the sukiyaki and curry Kazan ramen, and it took FOREVER for server to bring us water or order for us, we were sitting there for like 20 mins before anyone even come check on us which I don’t understand since the restaurant is basically empty with 3 tables of customers including us. Finally she got our order then we waited forever AGAIN for our food. The soup were flooding the table during cook, curry tasted like curry powder added with too much water and you can’t really taste anything? And there are more tasteless cabbages in ramen than actual noodles. We also got the matcha shaved ice, at first it was cool with dry ice and stuff, then the tube with dry ice suddenly squirted some liquid onto our face. We had to stuff some paper in to stop it. Jesus Christ. During our meal it was really hard to get ahold of our server and everything took so so long it’s such a waste of time. The table next to us left like two hour ago and the table is still not cleaned up. Would not recommend and will never come back again. Felt like I spent a century waiting in an overpriced empty restaurant.

We ordered the veggie ramen and the pork cutlet and both were really good. Service was also fast and efficient. The place is clean and seems new. Would love to back when we are in the area.

Fairly new restaurant in the area; food is very tasty and in good portion for its price. I personally think it actually worthy more compare to some restaurant in the Little Tokyo. (We order ramen\ dumpling/ pork cutlets curry)

I saw that this spot was new & I decided to try it out as I was walking to the grocery store. I had lunch and I can clearly say that, that was the best ramen I’ve had in SoCal. I ordered their beef don, chicken karaage, & Chase Shoyu. The beef don was excellent, thinly sliced marinated beef with that Yoshinoya type taste. Their fried shrimp in wasabi/mayo sauce was pretty good, remind me of walnut shrimp type appetizer with an excellent sauce to put on a salad. The karaage was excellent too, very filling for an appetizer. It was deliciously fried I just wish there was more sauce options for dipping. The broth was the most flavorful and delicious soup I’ve had in a long while. The meats were great quality along with the noodles. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items. Parking is street(if available) or paid lot/garage parking.

Good service. Nick was fun and competent. Food was delicious. A choice I am happy with. Sad we did not have time to do it again this trip.

Positives: * The staff is great and super friendly. * the ambiance pretty cool * the presentation is pretty fun Negatives - just ONE They use very STRONG air fresheners in their restrooms so that's all you can smell. Couldn't smell the food at all. I left with a migraine and could smell the air freshener on me all the way home. Note- I DID not go into the restroom but the person. I was with did and they said it smelled even stronger in there.

Decent spot for ramen with friendly staff and relatively spacious seating. There is a happy hour menu (everyday 11-7pm) but there's not much on there and you basically get about $1 off regular price menu for the ramen. We ended up ordering from the regular menu and got the charsu shout ramen set where you get a bowl of ramen and have a choice of one additional item (chashu bowl, karaage or gyoza). We chose the chashu don and was surprised by the amount of chashu in the bowl. It's a basic rice bowl but the flavors were really good with the rice. The ramen was ok. There was 6 pieces of chashu which was nice but the broth was salty for my taste. Overall decent spot. Also, if you pay by credit card, they tack on a 3% fee. :(

So salty!! Almost everything we got was salty -_- I ordered the karamiso ramen. Portion was little for the price, but that was not the problem. The broth was good, but pretty salty. They were also very stingy on the meats. I think there was only 1 or 2 very very thin slices. I thought I saw 2, but ended up with only 1. Guess it dissolved in the broth? lol My nephew ordered the shio ramen. I tried his broth and it was more salty than mine. Also, the broth wasn't hot enough. We also added the karaage and takoyaki for $3 each. Karaage was prob the best outta all the stuff we ordered. It was hot and tasty. Takoyaki was ok. We also ordered the fried wasabi shrimps. This was hands down the saltiest item of all items. I actually mentioned to the server, but nothing was done. We ordered from the happy hour menu but pls...if you're going to be that stingy then don't bother with the happy hour menu. Just make you look bad!!! They have mocktails (no alcohol), but it was like $10-$11??? lol The receipt showed that they validate for parking. I m not sure how accurate it is. Also, not sure for which parking structure. It could be for the Whole Foods's structure.

I got the Karamiso and loved the flavor of the broth! It wasn't that spicy either. A little sad I only got one piece of chashu :') but besides that the ramen was delicious! The servers were also really kind and it's a comfortable environment to dine in.

It really is a unique way to eat ramen and it was really good! They are known for their stone bowl volcano ramen. It's basically a stone pot ramen where soup is poured in at your table so everything is steaming hot and fresh. It also comes with a bowl of rice so you can mix it in and make a porridge with the leftover soup. Our server was really friendly and helpful when explaining the menu to us and how to eat everything. A regular size was perfect to share between two people and we also got a karaage as an app. This was the perfect portion size. The soup is really delicious and all the ingredients were tasty and fresh. It was super flavorful without feeling heavy. The karaage had a nice spicy kick to it and the meat was really juicy. It's a cute restaurant with delicious food and a fun experience in Dtla.

Just to note, i sincerely thought a lot to whether i should give 4 or 5 stars.. probably at least 10 minutes continuously. I have been coming here ever since i was forced to move to DTLA because of my job. As myself being a foodie, the first thing i do is to research within the area and sort out the "eatable" place in town. So i can continuously come in for light dinner/beer type of occasion. This place was barely opened, my first impression was to just come here to fill my hard working stomach but wow, i knew on the first bite, this isnt usual foods served in US. Something that you can feel that this was created by someone's effort and pride. What surprises me is that ( i am actually very afraid to say but i still will and i hope they dont raise their prices Their price is dirt cheap for the quality of foods you get) If you are used to those ordinary mass produced and capitalized ramen place, dont come here. They will make your moneys worth it, every single penny i promise.

Our first time here! We used the While Foods market parking garage next door and got validation at the store by buying some chocolate after dinner. Nice bright welcoming vibe. We chose a higher table with comfortable high chairs. Kenji our server was friendly and attentive and double checked our order before leaving our side. The "lunch special" prices are valid until 7 p.m.'! With $13.95 ramen and $3 sides. We both ordered the karamiso ramen and I had a side of 3 pan fried gyoza. We also ordered a bottle of sake (can't remember the name but it was a junmai daiginjo type smooth sweeter type served cold). The ramen and gyoza came out within 15 min and was delicious to the last drop. You have chili oil and vinegar and soy sauce at the table as well as chili powder to add as needed. It sounded like they were playing Japanese pop music in the background. We'll be back! I'm curious about the volcano ramen which has you pouring the hot broth over your noodles and toppings and then covering it for a minute using an hourglass timer at your table. So cool!

We came at 5pm on a Saturday and we were the only ones there for most of the meal. Our waitress was welcoming and food was delivered promptly. Japanese pop music and a spacious, elegantly decorated interior. Also outdoor seating if that's your vibe. - Shoyu Kazan Ramen (small) - 4.5/5 The pork belly ~melted~ in my mouth and it was perfectly seasoned. Noodles were chewy, bouncy, and not too thin so the broth really clings to each noodle! Deducting because I don't think the rice added much to my meal. I would've rather had more noodles, as I felt like my portion was a bit small - Beef Sukiyaki Kazan Ramen (small) - 4.5/5 Sukiyaki was oh so yum and there was a huge portion of noodles underneath the pile of beef and cabbage. Also deducting for the rice. I don't think having it with the broth was necessary. In the future I think making the rice available as an option add on would be my preference. Overall I loved the noodles. Next time I would probably order just one small bowl of chashu ramen to split with my partner. That way we can order one of the gorgeous shaved ice desserts that I had my eye on but was too full to consider today...

Kazan Ramen recently opened so I decided to drop by to support local business. The restaurant is new, modern, and clean. Service was top notch. Everyone was so friendly. + Shoyu ramen 4/5: Got the lunch special ramen which came with a small side of karage (fried chicken nuggets) for $17. The karage was just okay bc it was hard and chewy. Ramen was good and flavorful. There's also whole garlic cloves on the side that I was able to add to my ramen with a garlic crusher.

We had noticed this new ramen shop open in DTLA. Very close to the bloc, easy if you take the metro or park there. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated and clean. The booths are a nice touch and some bar seating too. I've had a lot of ramen in my life but never kazan ramen before. The broth comes in a hot coffee pot which is then poured into a super sizzling hot stone bowl and then enclosed in a red top. Steam comes out the top and the ramen gets super hot! The noodles get a bit of a char at the bottom of the bowl. After 1 min the server comes to remove the top. Good chopsticks skills required because you're supposed to take what you want out of the stone bowl and into a normal rice bowl. I assume this is a precaution so you don't burn yourself on the stone bowl while eating. The ramen itself is pretty tasty. The charred noodles make for good texture and flavor. I thought the soup broth was also good. I liked the variety of fresh toppings on the table including whole garlic cloves and a garlic press. You can really make it to your liking. The mango calpico was very sweet but with some water added it was very good. Some chunks of mango In there too. Service was very helpful and friendly, they explained and helped with the ramen lid. We dined around 4 pm so it was not busy but I can see it getting a bit crazy if it was busy and everyone ordered the kazzan ramen. Hopefully theyre properly staffed when it does fill up! Otherwise, worth a try if you're craving some tasty ramen!

I highly recommend this ramen restaurant! I work very close by so I stopped in for their lunch special and got the Karamiso ramen. It was so flavorful!!! Really great depth of flavor in the broth and the meat and egg were cooked perfectly. I ordered to go, and they had my dish ready in 10 minutes. The service was really kind and helpful. It's a great lunch special, but also, I would go any time because the food itself and the service were great!

Ambiance: this brand new ramen restaurant is located in downtown la, a trendy place next to few popular restaurants, and it took over the spot from the closed fundamental la Service: Extremely terrible experience. First, SLOW & DISORGANIZED they don't serve guests in the right order, apparently the waitress placed the order for guests who seated last, and skipped two tables seated earlier, unfortunately we were one of two tables being skipped, I am sure it's not done intentional just very disorganized, and it's so slow for each single process, the staff should clean tables but don't have to do it right away after the guests left, especially when more than half tables are still clean and ready to use, but there are pipelined guests waiting to be served. Second, CARELESS & FORGETFUL the servers were so forgetful, finally after we placed the order, and waited forever to get water, drink, and appetizer, I understand it takes time for kitchen to cook, however, after all main courses were served and almost finished, the beer and appetizer were still not served, apparently beer was forgotten and fried chicken was not cooked yet, which was either forgotten by server or the kitchen, it seems they all work alone and not communicating promptly, we had to remind quite a few times to get the missing items. Third, UNETHICAL & RIDICULOUS, can you believe they tried to reuse food?! one of the ramen dish brought to the table was wrong and I asked they took it back, not only because it was not the right order, but also shockingly it was a dish refused by another table for whatever reason and they tried to reuse it, I literally saw the entire process how the dish was served to another table, stayed for a while and then returned to kitchen counter top, and then brought to our table again, I really don't like this recycling idea, and I think it's unethical to serve your guests with suspicious food, how can you guarantee the cleanness for food passing by different tables. I witnessed two tables left unhappy, one group left very soon and barely even started their meals, another group had trouble with paying, and I can imagine how they felt based on my own experience. I hope whomever the manager or restaurant owner can see this post and train your employees properly, so it's worth all my time of pointing the problems and hoping for it's getting better in the future. Kazzan Ramen & Bar quietly replaced the Rakkan Ramen location on Grand between Bottega Rip-off and Whole Foods, in the space originally opened by Fundamental. Kazzan gets right what Rakkan got wrong -- namely, the prices. Until 7 P.M., prices are very affordable, and even after then, there are a lot of bargains on the menu, like the gyūdon (beef bowl -- $12.80) and pork cutlet curry ($13.80). During happy hour, draft beers are just $4. The staff is friendly, and I had the place to myself the whole time on recent Sunday afternoon. That's pretty insane given the affordability. Kazzan is the best izakaya-style restaurant outside Little Tokyo in Downtown, and Angelenos who still brave the mean streets of Downtown shouldn't miss out on this place. An extra star for value and the cheerful staff.

Stopped by on a Sunday evening and surprised it wasn't busy at all! We were immediately seated and service was fast/helpful. Ordered a sampler appetizer, chasu ramen, and the mango mountain. Appetizers were alright, nothing too crazy and exactly what I expected. The ramen was surprisingly good. Maybe it was from working all day, but it was comforting and filling. Broth wasn't too salty like most places and the chasu was super tender and soft. The dessert was so extra with the dry ice, but it was a fun experience. Glad they provided the condensed milk on the side as it could have made it way too sweet if all poured on. Loved the mango

After a couple of visits to Kazzan, their ramen has remained consistently delicious and the service has been great.

I honestly love the vibe of this restaurant. It's modern, it's chic and the food here is really splendid. Each food has so much flavor and the quality for each food item is a 10/10. Also I really enjoy the customer service they really did make our stay here very comfortable and enjoyable. This restaurant is a 10 out of 10 and will 100% come again.

Stopped in with a friend today, made it just in time to catch the happy hour $4 beer specials. Were gonna just have a couple beers and bounce, but we perused the food menu and the food looked and sounded so good we wound up staying for a full dinner and drinks experience! Our server, Juliana, was kind, attentive, and knowledgable. Food came out incredible, I had the curry rice with tonkatsu pork and my friend had the pork ramen. Everything was great. They also have fresh garlic to mince into soy sauce for an extra flavor blast if you want it and are into garlic like we are. 10/10 experience, will definitely be back, thanks chef and staff!

Ate here for the first time after passing it everyday. We ordered chashu shoyu ramen and gyoza. The ramen and gyoza was very delicious and filling. It was some of the best ramen I've had in LA. The service wasn't the best. The server (don't remember her name) never came back to check on us or even refill our water glasses and we had to wave her down to get the check. She seemed to be the only server though and definitely seemed overwhelmed, so I blame management for that. But overall it was good and will be back again.

Food was 10/10. Service was a 15/10! Our server took her time to explain menu items, had amazing recommendations and incredible patience. The ambiance was perfect for lunch. Will definitely be back.

2 stars only because the ramen was actually really good. A little on the pricier side, but the broth was really flavorful and creamy. This review is mainly because of our server. I'm not a stickler for amazing, out of this world service because I've worked as a waitress before and I realize it's not anybody's dream job, however, Angie has a terrible attitude. She said we could sit anywhere we'd like, so we picked a booth and it had a wet spot on it. My friend asked her if she could wipe it down, and she got an attitude saying the wet spot was from where she just wiped it down. Okay, whatever. She brings us waters, we ordered two shio ramens and a regular coke and a Diet Coke. Food comes out with just the Diet Coke. Doesn't ask if we need anything else, and ignores us for the entire meal. We finish eating, and wait about 20 minutes for the check before I asked her for the check when she says "Oh I've already clocked out let me grab someone for you." If you've already clocked out, why does it look like you're doing your side work? Also, wouldn't you collect payment from all of your tables before you clock out? Anyway, Angie could stand to learn basic manners before she works in food service. That's just my opinion as someone who has been in the industry for over 10 years. I would never allow my employees to treat any of our guests the way Angie acted towards my friend and me today.

To owner of Kazzan ramen dtla, Service? Disgusted. I don't usually like taking my time writing any reviews on anywhere I go, but for this I had to. I am writing to file a complaint regarding an incident that occurred at your Kazzan ramen dtla. I was your regular customer even before this place transformed to ramen place. Yesterday I visited the restaurant and was served alcohol after showing a photo of my valid passport, as I did not have the physical document with me. However, on my most recent visit, when I presented the same photo of my passport as identification, I was refused service, despite it being accepted previously. I feel this inconsistency in your policy is unfair and confusing. I would appreciate clarification on your rules regarding ID verification for alcohol service. I also believe customers should be given consistent treatment, especially when no legal requirements have changed in the interim. I will not return here again for the rude service from the lady. I forgot her name. But she had lot of acne on her face if this helps finding her. She could have said things for nicely or lowered her voice down a little so I don't get more attention I could get. instead, she made me feel humiliated by people seating at the bar. At least you can say things nicely. We will never return for this inconsistency place that changes policy every time. Or at least make an effort to recognize your regular customer.

Love this place and the concept. I got the beef volcano ramen and was in for an experience! I never had a ramen like this and it as great. The server quickly explained what it was and how to eat it. First off, the portions are huge. The meat was tasty, lots of veggies, and thick noodles. Also comes with rice and extra soup, so you really get a large meal. Pro tip, put the sukiyaki/soy sauce? in when you ladle the portions in the bowl, and it will give it an extra flavor punch!

Ramen here is def on the top-tier list. Love the wall of liquor and mural on the inside. They also have the seasonings available at your table if you like a bit more spice to your broth

Very very slow service from kitchen. Two other tables. Taking over 20 min for the one app I ordered. Cooks are just talking. Wouldn't come on break or if you're in a rush.

Terrible food. Horrible service. Great Ambiance. I am an easy person to please, but I can tell you that the food was not good and the service was not great. I ordered the "Beef Don" dish and it came with maybe 25 grams of beef and a lot of onions. Overall, we spent $90 on dinner for 3 and not one of us was happy.

stly in all reality I came expecting great things from this restaurant, especially because it's a new location located in downtown Los Angeles upon arriving there was a line so we figured it would be a great choice in dining. The appetizers were amazing.The wait time for our Ramen was about 40 minutes, which was a little bit long, considering say that we came here during opening, it is a bit unorganized didn't receive menus until 20 minutes after being seated aside from that would give this place three out of five stars the Ramen is on the sweet side, and didn't quite meet my expectations as far as Japanese Ramen. spicy at all, although I nearly added a whole jar of chili. I feel that the broth was a little too sweet and that sweetness was combative with the spiciness that I was trying to obtain

Everything I had was so good! The broth in my ramen was so creamy and flavorful. I also got the tokayaki and crunchy shrimp. I'd like to come back and try their curry dish as it looked delicious.

I hardly write reviews but i think it was needed dor this locstion. Came here for the good reviews. I think its probably due to the 10% thet give if you write one. Broth was flavorless the boiled eggs as well the pork is sweet not my preference maybe some will enjoy it. But overall very dissapointing.

Food is great ! I really enjoy the lunch special ! The $17 dollar ramen set it comes w any choice of your ramen and a 3 price side of your choice ! I heard if you're vegan you can replace the meat option for edamame which I love ! And I'm a sucker for sweets so I had to try the Strawberry summit ice kazzan. It is sooooo dangerously delicious and I love that it comes with condensed milk it brings more sweetness for my tooth. Customer service is wonderful, they always attend to my needs and makes me feel comfortable. I always see them walking around fulfilling their duties. I really like how the restaurant is so clean and tidy.

I came here to get a quick bite for lunch. And I have to say I'm really impressed. My favorite time on the menu so far is the fried shrimp in wassabi sauce and the shoyu ramen. The shoyu ramen is so delicious I hate to say but I may have swallow it hole without even breathing that's how good it was. I just could not put the chopstick down. And the customer service is good ! They are so nice and makes sure that I have everything I need to enjoy my stay here. The vibe of the restaurant is so calm, which I love. Will come again with my friends and family to experience this Japanese restaurant !

If you're expecting real Japanese ramen, this is not the place. The ramen is way too sweet. 2 stars for the convenient location and great service.
