A sacred place in the community on Moloka'i, which is known as "The Friendly Place," but has a reputation for being unwelcoming to outsiders on other islands. They had slow roasted pig, grilled kala fish, mullet cooked lavalu style, octopus, poi, and freshwater clams from the mountains.
I atended a Hawaiian survival retreat here at the fish pond with a group of 8th graders. It was a very spiritual experience with great teaching and life lessons.
The camp guys took great care of us and explain the historical significance of this area. We slept within the grounds and had beautiful weather although it was a little windy and chilly at night.
It's really amazing how they brought the area back, both the fish pond and the natural spring. There's a lot of historical significance to this area which you must see to appreciate.
