"You can find fish fries just about anywhere in Milwaukee on a Friday night, but going to this West Allis beer hall is especially fun. We’re talking about a true throwback with low ceilings, wood-paneled walls, early-20th-century landscape paintings, and chandeliers crafted from iron and stained glass. Outside of the fish fry (the cod, lake perch, walleye, or bluegill are all good), and classic German dishes like schnitzel and spaetzle mac, you should try Germany-meets-Wisconsin items like kuegel wurst, which are brat bites wrapped in potato pancakes. On warm days, you might spot someone playing a wooden alphorn in the outdoor beer garden. " - kristine hansen

Hey, German food is great. They have all kinds of meat and sausage. ( Usually with some kind of starch) Plenty of room inside and out. Outside has a stage for live music. Great service

Google
A genuine neighborhood restaurant. If you like German food, you will like it here. There were seven of us so we had a wide selection from the menu. Two of us had the beer flight which consisted of seven German beers. Check the photos for the atmosphere. Transported us back to Germany. Our server was excellent and answered any questions. Check it out if you are in the area and a fan of German food.

Google
I have not been to this wonderful of a German restaurant in some time. The staff is absolutely lovely and made every accommodation for us. The food was superb, and so was the beer. We'll definitely be coming back soon.

Google
Delicious food in an old world atmosphere! Bavarian Pretzel, clam chowder soup with dark rye bread and classic fish (cod) fry with potato pancake. This is our third time here and we will be back again when in the area.

Google
Birthday dinner for my wife. The food was great. Glazed Veal, Duck, Rouladen, Portabella Caps, Cherry Strudel, Shaum Torte, Cheesecake. Bourbon Old Fashioned. All was excellent. Not inexpensive, but we were celebrating. Too expensive to be a regular thing, but this was a special occasion.

Google
What a great place! The food and service was excellent and they brought in a band to boot. Special shout-out to the Happy Shotski Combo for making my day.

Google
Went to try the fish fry, very popular so find street parking and go early. They do have the beer garden open for walk ins and overflow. They play live music with tuba, trombone and accordian etc. You get hunks of cod instead of filets. You will have to flag down staff to get any refills of water and drinks.

Google
Kegel has been there for five generations and is a Milwaukee must-go. Beer menu is all-German as is the food menu. Portions are generous and well-prepared. I've had better but not at this price and "better" here means the entree was just a little short of "great." The 'kraut and potato salad were both outstanding. The service was good if not a little overbearing. Parking is a minor challenge --- mostly street parking in a residential neighborhood. The atmosphere tries for a Bavarian vibe but it may be time for a little refreshing. Seasonal outdoor seating with live music sometimes. All in all, a nice experience.

Yelp
Wonderful fish fry Great people, staff and patrons Charming decor Visit the bar for a ore drink cocktail

Yelp
We have lived in the area and have known Kegels to be a great place for a fish fry. My wife ordered the baked fish and it wasn't fully cooked (clear inside). We raised the issue to the waitress and asked for the regular fish fry and it was absolutely delicious. Thanks for taking care of what could have been a bad review!

Yelp
This place is a great experience, the German atmosphere and food is amazing. The live music on Saturday night was very entertaining.

Yelp
TL:DR - great German food, perfect French fries, good service, authentic looking restaurant interior. Very authentic-looking interior, like a beer hall. Outside beer garden is also nice. Wes G. was our server, very nice. We got the complimentary bread, with garlic butter and regular butter. Nice little loaf of bread, and tasty butter. Food: - Side salad was adequate. Croutons seemed homemade from white bread, so they were lighter, not dense. I liked those. - The single Beef Rouladen was excellent. The meat was flavorful, as was the gravy and mashed potatoes. A slight nit - most of the roulade was done perfectly, not overcooked, had a slight pink to it. However, some of it was a bit mealy in texture, so not sure if it had sat in a sauce or something too long and got "cooked" by acidic stuff. - The Loaded Oktoberfest Brat was great. Lots of good stuff on it, and great tasting sausage. Of particular note were the French fries. Wow - cooked perfectly (double cooked?), so they stayed crispy throughout dinner. Exceptional! - The German potato salad was a very good. Nice experience!

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kegel's and I must say, the fish fry was fantastic! The crispy coating paired perfectly with the tender fish inside, making each bite a delight. The atmosphere truly transports you to Germany, with its charming decor and traditional touches. The staff was friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall experience. If you're looking for an authentic German dining experience, this place is a must-visit!

Yelp
Stopped in for some drinks and apps. Coolest authentic German spot I've been to. They had an accordion band playing which was awesome. Lisa our server was so friendly and attentive despite how busy they were. The sausage platter was perfect for 4 people. The beer cheese served with the pretzel I could have ate by the spoonful. Would suggest the apple walnut strudel for dessert also. Will definitely be stopping back here when back in WI

Isabelle E.

Yelp
I thought the food was wonderful however there was some relatively loud music that the rest of my party didn't enjoy and the food along with our waiter took quite a while to get to us.

Phi L.

Yelp
Great vibes and the pretzel app was very impressive! Delicious and great portions and flavors!

Larry H.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed their fish fry. However, our last experience, which was a beautiful day we opted to sit outside. The music was way too loud to carry on a conversation. The food was good as usual, but the ambience, terrible.

Yelp
First of all, I love the food! However, the menu is misleading or it is false advertising. I was craving blue gill fish fry all day and unfortunately they were already out by the time we got there. Fair..they were very busy tonight. So I ended up ordering the walleye, which is described as two large fillets (on their website menu) or just "walleye fillets" (notice the plurality). So I was already disappointed that they didn't have the blue gill. But then the walleye came out and it was one mediocre sized piece. I asked the server and he said that it was weighed so it is either one large piece or two smaller pieces. Even though the description said two large fillets. Again, disappointed. And again, it wasn't that large. I have never left this place still hungry and I have had plenty to take home afterwards. Needless to say, I finished everything on my plate. I mean, it was delicious, but I was expecting more...especially based on their description on the menu. I highly recommend asking prior to ordering how much food to expect...especially if you are hungry. Also, I highly recommend that they change their menu so that people are not disappointed like I was tonight. Looking forward to trying out a new place in the near future. I would also like to add that I was here about two weeks ago as well and got the lake perch and it was plentiful. Not sure if tonight was just an off night or what...

Yelp
Outstanding fish fry !!! very good selection and the perch was amazing ! I agree on best fish fry in milwaukee vote ! get potatoe pancakes and the sauerkraut sides too !! beer garden outside is awesome and they usually have Music on Fridays and Saturdays ! very good servers - sometimes they are so busy when folks show up at same time the greeter is a bit behind in seating folks but be patient it's worth the wait . Everyone's happy with a really worthwhile dining experience ! absolutely love love love this place ! thanks for bringing back quality and attention to detail to the German food offerings in Milwaukee ! can't wait to have the Hassenpfeffer!!! Yelp
If you are looking for a delicious authentic Wisconsin fish fry - look no further than Kegel's Inn! Hubby and I were first timers and wanted to make sure we got the whole experience. We opted to share our meal starting with the clam chowder, I would say I've had better in the Milwaukee area but it was still quite good. We then ordered the 3-2-1 plater with fries and an extra order of potato pancakes. After leaving the restaurant I did regret not trying the German potato salad - next time. I'm not normally a big cod person but out of the 3 fish on the plater that was my favorite! It wasn't too buttery or dry and the breading was the perfect crisp. I also liked the potato pancake but similar to the chowder it wasn't the best I've ever had ever. Service was busy but she was attentive. Hubby and I agreed that this might be a good place to go with another couple or small group (~6 people) to share items and get the whole experience.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wonderful meal last night at Kegel's Inn. As we headed into the Lenten season, we had a fish fry on our mind and wanted to try this classic restaurant that has been serving the he area for 100 years. We had reservations during its peak dinner time and waited around the crowded bar for about 10 minutes. The restaurant was filled with people having a good time. Friday night was their Fish Fry Menu. It still offered variety and options, just not their traditional German food. We each had the classic cod fish fry with either the fries or potato pancakes (which were available for an up charge). Our server, Heather, was excellent and answered any questions that we had. She checked on us and chatted at the end of the meal. It added to the friendly, fun vibe. We started our meal with a good New England clam chowder. Then, the classic fish fry. Our plate was filled with four pieces of crispy cod. The potato pancakes were delicious. Their drink menu ranged from a good selection of import and domestic beers, wines or another classic, an old fashioned. It was a wonderful meal and we're already talking about going back for their German food.

Yelp
After watching the Bucks win their thrilling playoff game, it was about that time and the son asked where I might like to eat.  Being in Milwaukee, I said how about German.  Being well read, he picked this place, and it was a great and delightful choice.  Kegel's Inn is a historic institution, started in 1924, and now being run by the 4th generation of the Kegel family - very impressive longevity and congratulations to the Kegels!  It's got everything you might expect - the rustic, quaint, woody, and colorful Bavarian decor as well as a biergarten, which was quiet on this particular Saturday night. The son had a brandy old fashioned (their Nitro Tap version) and I had a nice, dark 0.5 liter (1.06 pint) serving of classic Hofbrau Dunkel (5.5% ABV).  For dinner, son had the Hasenpfeffer, or slow cooked rabbit ($35).  I had their Ramschnitzel - 2 Strauss veal steaks with creamy mushroom sauce ($33).  I enjoyed the tender and tasty schnitzels and liked having the mushroom sauce provided on the side.  The food prices struck me as being on the high side, but let's not forget this big historic place survived Covid, so more power to 'em.  My big beer at $8 was a pretty good value though.  Overall, a very delightful old-world German venue that really hit the spot!

Yelp
This restaurant feels like a walk back in time with all of the decor and paintings on the wall. Their menu has ought Hen other items for those who may not want to try the German Specialties. My husband and I split the roulade, and there was no extra plate charge. The mashed potatoes were the best I've ever eaten, swimming in butter. Be prepared that the roulade has a bit of a sour taste and pickle in the middle. I enjoyed it, but my husband thought it was too sour. The soup at the beginning of the course was mainly broth and didn't have a lot of flavor . The spaetzle was delicious and very traditional, which I ordered as a side, and I didn't have Enough room in my stomach to finish it. Next time I would like to try the sausage. They also have a fish fry on Fridays, which seems to be common in the Milwaukee area. We visited on a Wednesday night with a reservation, but we wouldn't have needed a reservation. It was fun to try German dinner in Milwaukee! This restaurant has a rich history.

Yelp
First off - Our waitress was wonderful. But the food was terrible. Worst schnitzel I've ever had. It tasted sour and almost burnt. I had 2 bites. My husband also tried it and agreed. He had the pork shank and found it very bland and unappetizing. Spätzle cost $3 extra and was bland and overcooked. Our waitress took $5 off our bill. We will never be back. Worst German food that I've ever had. We were so excited to try this historical restaurant and were so disappointed.

Philip F.

Yelp
Was at kegels for a special event. The atmosphere was wonderful full of the German heritage of the family.

Jackie T.

Yelp
Seven of us went to celebrate the 100th anniversary. Five people had never been to Kegel's but said they will definitely be back. They were impressed with everything from the food, atmosphere and service.

Phil G.

Yelp
I was looking forward to having Wiener Schnitzel at the renowned Kegel Inn. The troubles started almost immediately because the space was deafening. We were shouting to make ourselves heard. As we all ordered versions of the Wiener Schnitzel, it seemed easy. But our frenetic server screwed up the order and tried to convince us it wasn't her fault by showing us her ordering machine. She was the one who inputted the information. Wisconsin has the best veal in the world; Provimi and Strauss are prized purveyors. However, my schnitzel had a sliver of meat, and the schnitzel was soggy and greasy. I couldn't eat it. After two bites, I was done. The green beans were good. Hey, charge more for the schnitzel and give us some meat. This was my second time at Kegels. The initial visit was for their fish fry, which I found mediocre. Perhaps my expectations are too high. Everyone seems to love Kegel's except for me.

Kathleen T.

Yelp
As always, amazing fish fry and potato pancakes. Warm pretzel with cheese. The best! Apple strudel and strawberry schaum torte with ice cream was delicious! Korbel brandy old fashion - yum!

Holly G.

Yelp
The best crowd is Fridays, but I love the feel of the classic German pub house feel. The food was really good, highly recommend the schnitzel! The service was perfect for our needs, we went with family and couldn't stop talking.

Jim B.

Yelp
Food and staff was great. Not sure about the music outside didn't match the atmosphere.

Shirley C.

Yelp
Second time here first time was fish fry which was very good. Today we ate German food and all was very good but the sauerkraut was so sour it was as if it came out of a can warmed. We have been in Germany several times,Maders and John Ernest when they were open and I have their recipe and it's delicious. I have never tasted kraut that sour.otherwise all was well.it's a beautiful place

Ursula ..

Yelp
Came for a Friday fish fry and were so disappointed. We visit Milwaukee and Kegel's one to two times a year and usually it's great. But this time, everyone at the table commented (afterwards) that the fish was lukewarm and tasteless, the potato pancakes were oily and the old-fashion cocktail was off tasting (as were a couple of the fountain drinks). The only thing that was up to their previous standards was the German potato salad - that was delicious!

Mary K.

Yelp
Amazing server's good solid food and great beer.the best German food in the area.they even had schnapps!

Noah O.

Yelp
Service isn't fantastic. I had to wait about 10 minutes for a server to come to my table when the restaurant wasn't even busy. On top of that the server wasn't polite or friendly, visiting only twice to refill my water and getting annoyed when I asked for more marinara for my cheese curds. No asking how I was, if she could get me anything else, just filling my water and leaving. Definitely couldve been better in the service department. Food was good. Cheesecurds were crisp and flavorful and the duck was cooked very well.

Shawnee B.

Yelp
My favorite place I got to eat while in Milwaukee! So good, we even tried to fit in another visit before we had to leave. We heard about them on Padma's Taste The Nation and knew we had to try them out. They did not disappoint! We had such a wonderful meal here. The interior of the place is that rustic wood, cottage feel. Beautifully painted murals on the wall. We got the duck and it was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be back when visiting.

Devonna S.

Yelp
My husband, his parents and I stopped by Kegel's Inn for dinner on a Saturday night when they first open at 4:00. We were served immediately, if not even a few minutes before they opened. I ordered one of their beers (they were out of the Kolsch I wanted), so I ordered their lager instead. Everyone else had soda or water. This place is cozy and fills up quickly, so I would recommend having a reservation or getting there early. My husband and his dad ordered the beef roulade, while my mother-in-law ordered a burger and I ordered two sausages, one chicken and the other one Polish. Most entrees come with a soup or a salad, which I ordered the chicken dumpling soup. It was fine, it was mainly broth and dumplings, in which I think I had one piece of chicken in the whole cup. My husband's beef roulade was a tasty bite and served with German egg noodles. My sausages were okay, just regular sausage...nothing special. They came with potato salad, but just an FYI, it is served warm, not cool like the potato sausage we are used to here in the states. They do serve bread and butter before your meal comes out, but it takes a little bit to get. All in all, it was a fine experience and I would go back to try something new. I do wish they had like a chicken schnitzel on their menu to try too. Most of their dishes are beef, veal or rabbit.

Becky L.

Yelp
Excellent choice for a fish fry! We made a reservation and happy we did. This place fills up, which should tell you how their fish fry is. They have bluegill and perch on their menu!!!! Absolutely love both and a little hard to find these days. They have some great German tap beers and excellent old fashioned and other mixed drinks. We also tried a Brandy Alexander and that was divine! Our server was nice and very helpful. We loved the vibe and the food was great. We plan on going back when it's a bit warmer and sit out by the bonfires and German band that set up when we were leaving on Friday. We hope they do that every Friday!

Alice F.

Yelp
Classic Wisconsin fish fry Friday! The experience was exactly what I wanted: surrounded by a bunch of locals, old school waitress who calls you sweetheart, German inspired decor, and down to earth food and drink. We started with Brandy Old Fashioneds, of course, and ordered the cod and lake perch fish fry plates. Walleye was sold out, so we'll have to come earlier next time. We had just enough time to finish our cocktails before the plates came out. I chose the loaded baked potato and my partner got the potato pancakes with his--he made the better choice, but both were good. Both fish were also good for different reasons: the classic cod was meaty and moist while the trout had a good ratio of breading to fish. We weren't intending to get dessert, but we had never had the schaum torte, so we gave it a try. We were glad we did because it's just the right combo of ice cream, merengue, whipped cream, and fruit sauce. So many reasons to go back on our next trip!

Nicole H.

Yelp
The atmosphere was wonderful but the beer and food even better! If your looking for authentic German look no further. Pork Shank, Duck and cheese curds were great! We stayed at the Inn and ate there a few times over the weekend and highly recommend!

Liz W.

Yelp
Stopped in at Kegel Inn, on 2/23 @ 2:30. We figured go early and beat the rush since an article appeared in local newspaper 2/21. We entered the restaurant and not acknowledged by bartender since no hostess. Apparently she was busy setting tables. Not a problem. She yelled from the dining room that they were clearing tables and it would be a few minutes. No, welcome, thanks for waiting and no enjoy your dinner. Interesting start to our dinner. The server came over and took our drink order, when she came back took our order. We ordered 2 classic fish frys. One with potato pancakes (disappointing)and the other baked potato. The server delivered our dinners. Lets start with the fish 4 bland small pieces no seasoning. Coleslaw was tasteless. Disappointing fish fry all around. The server never checked on us until we asked for our bill. Lots of places in Milwaukee for a great fish fry.

D J.

Yelp
Fish fry Friday is awesome. Had the "classic". Nice amount of fish. The potato pancakes are great. Friend had the German potato salad as a side and reported it was very goo, too. Great beer selection. It gets crowded. So, make sure you have a reservation. And have some patience while the bar staff serves the tons of people waiting. They ran about 15 minutes late on the reservation, but we didn't care. They have a real nice outside area with a warming fire, but it was too cold for us. The cold did not deter others! Highly recommend. Highly recommend.

Robert M.

Yelp
We had dinner here in a beautiful spring night outside in the beer garden. We started with a vey delicious Alpine Poutine which included beautifully cooked french fries, bratwurst bites, cheese curds and a duck fat gravy. My wife ordered kuegel bites as an entree, which she loved. I had an all time favorite sauerbraten. The beef was delicious and very tender. The gravy was tart and savory, perfectly spicy. The pickled red cabbage was a perfect partner for the sauerbraten. The dumpling was a generous size and very tasty. Our son had an Olympic bratwurst sandwich with a wedge salad. He loved the sandwich but wasn't a fan of the salad. Our daughter-in-law had a schnitzel sandwich which looked amazing. All in all very great meal in the beer garden. Definitely want to return for their. Fish Fry some day.

Ron F.

Yelp
We had a fish fry with friends inside at Kegel's on Friday night. We had reservations for inside. I'm handicapped, there is a nice grab handle on the outside that helped but another grab handle on the inside would be even better. I had to get my wheelchair/walker inside immediately to sit down. I had help with my wife and friend. We were seated promptly and an older server who I recognized served us. After drinks, good beer, we had the classic fish fry, with one in our group having the walleye. The fish was hot and tasty, I had German Potato Salad and the others had potato pancakes, both were good. Somehow Kegel's discovered that it was my birthday, so they gave me a slice of Apple Strudel with a lit candle on top and asked the people inside to sing Happy Birthday to me. After they finished, I sang the German version I knew, "Zum Geburtstag viel Glück." Then a young guy came from the other room and said I have another version of a German Happy Birthday song, "Wie schön, dass du geboren bist," which he sang beautifully. Altogether a wonderful evening. Negative? The West Allis cops are diligent and the person who drove us got a ticket.

Samantha P.

Yelp
This lovely family owned restaurant is a favorite of ours. It's celebrating its centennial this year! Congratulations! Gabby was our server tonight .. we received friendly, courteous, & attentive service from her. We thoroughly enjoyed our favorite fare: warm Bavarian soft pretzel, warm German potato salad, potato pancakes, & a Friday fish fry! Delicious! I'm one who inspects the cleanliness of the restaurant I dine in .. from top to bottom. The floors, walls & ceilings were clean .. even the hanging lights from the ceiling were cobweb & dust free. You can tell this family takes great pride in their restaurant. Beyond 5 stars!!!!!

Jessica J.

Yelp
I now know first hand why Kegel's is known for their fish fry! It took us way too long to get here, but I'm glad we finally did. This Bavarian-style beer hall is the perfect vibe to enjoy on a chilly Friday night. We booked in for a reservation and the six of us were sat at a table spaced out from anyone else. Staff were all wearing masks as well, so we felt comfortable right away. The menu we were given listed exclusively their loaded brats and Friday fish fry options. I'm not sure if they offer additional fare, but we were certainly satisfied with the choices. My husband and I decided to share two dishes. The first being the classic fish fry, which was made up of five lightly breaded, fried to perfection pieces of cod, a slice of bread, side of fires, homemade coleslaw, and the house tartar. I thought it was all delicious! The breading was the right kind of crispy and the cod was tender and flavorful. We also enjoyed the jumbo shrimp plate, which came with a whopping seven large juicy pieces. I decided to get the potato pancakes as a side with that dish, and those we're a bit dense and very filling, but had a great flavor. Oh and let's not forget the drinks! I opted for a basic vodka soda, but Kegel's offers a packed list of imported beers on tap, plenty of specialty cocktails, and a few NA and gluten-free options. The husband went for the liter of Dunkel. Yes, a liter! Be sure to check out this authentic German, family-owned spot when you get the chance.

Frederick K.

Yelp
our favorite Friday fish fry!!! fabulous food- best perch I've ever had. service has always been outstanding and we love the energy and ambience at Kegel's. we simply love this place!

Lacrisha L.

Yelp
I made reservations for a fish fry this past Friday. I've heard good things about them and after seeing them on the news and how they prepare their fish I wanted to give it a try. It was just me and my mom and because she's a light eater, we decided to split the 5 piece breaded cod dinner with fries. I wasn't 5-7 minutes into my liter of Dunkel before we were presented with our meal. The fish was hot, fresh and flaky which any fish at a fish fry should be. I'm not a tarter sauce person so I was hoping maybe the breading would've been seasoned. Unfortunately it wasn't, but it wasn't that a squeeze of lemon and piece of buttered rye bread that couldn't fix. For the price and portion I still would go back back again for another fish fry and also try other things off of their menu. I really do like that I can get a liter of Dunkel and don't have to go far for it :).

Mario A.

Yelp
Went to Kegels after viewing their website and was impressed by their menu selection, so i thought i would give it a try. Friday night fish fry sounded good; made a reservation thought there perch fry price was a little pricey but what isn't these days? 4 pieces sorry it should have been at least 5 for $24, taste was good but again 5 pieces would have justified the price. Ordered a perch fry to go and when i got home those 4 pieces was the equivelant of maybe 3 pieces, weighed the pieces and they were 5.5 ounces - sorry not worth it...Maybe the kitchen staff doesn't care what they put on the plate but it will be my last time going to Kegels. they need someone in the kitchen to make sure the portion is worthy of the price. 6/14/24

Yelp
Great food and service. Even includes tasty vegan brat and fish fry options. A Milwaukee gem.

Yelp
Dined here for the first time ever yesterday -- Friday 4/12 ---before the Luke Combs concert at American Family Field! I would DEFINITELY recommend and return to Kegel's!! This restaurant was HIGHLY recommended by my friend with whom I dined with here yesterday! She had dined here before/LOVED it, happens to be German and also had a German grandmother who cooked her and their entire family German dishes using recipes she brought with her from The Fatherland! I had a bowl of chicken dumpling soup, the Oktoberfest Bratwurst, a side of spaetzel, and a mug of Fruh Kolsch! My friend ordered the Kuegel Wurst, Fried Cheese Curds, and German Potato Salad! All of our food and drinks were fresh, hearty and flavorful! Our young upbeat server (can't remember his name, unfortunately/sorry) did a GREAT job advising us on our entire order; he was VERY knowledgeable, personable, wonderfully good-humored and very efficient/professional! Loved the cozy Old World ambience of Kegel's: brought back fond memories of my trip to Germany back in the 80s to Munich, Frankfort, and Rothenberg! It really was like dining in a true German Inn!! I would definitely come back to Kegel's!!!!

Tony P.

Yelp
Yikes, Kegel. Was in for the fish fry for lunch yesterday. The small serving of walleye was not fresh tasting (heavy aroma of a fish store). A tiny serving of cole slaw in a plastic cup (not very friendly to the earth). Two pieces of rye bread. And two small potato pancakes for which I had to pay an upcharge of $2. "Excellent choice, " said the server. Weird. Anyway, the potato pancakes tasted like they were made last week and rolled across an oily flattop after i ordered. $21 for a really crummy fish fry. I like the schnitzel but this tells me the restaurant doesn't care. So I won't be back. Milwaukee, don't accept this. It wasn't the high price or small portion. It was that it all tasted like crap.

Yelp
Enjoyed an efficient and wonderful sauerbraten lunch. The meat was sliced and smothered in luscious gravy. Loved the basket of a wide array of crackers. Very impressive! Great beer selection here and it's featured in the Untapped app. October '19 has outdoor biergarten seating with a stage and the hammering game. I want to come back.

Yelp
One of the best fish fry in the city! Potato pancakes can be hard to find, but they make delicious potato pancakes. Great service. Tables are a little close together and it gets crowded, but they do take reservations.

Yelp
On tonights visit the service was not there at all. Our server did not properly introduce her self when she approached us. When she did approached us and spoke she smelled liked cigarettes. She did NOT come back to check on us after she delivered the food. We had to ask someone else for two more lemon wedges. We also had to ask a very well mannered host to get us our server so that we could pay. If I could remember her name I would write it so that whoever reads my review would know before hand what kind of service to expect but since she did not introduced her self I can't write it here. Her tip did not reflect her service. Instead of 18% she should have received less but my conscious would not let me tip less than 18%. The food on the other hand was delicious. We ordered the Lake Perch. I would ONLY return because of the food. The fish was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The ambiance was nice. You get that united family feeling when dining at Kegels Inn. Patio would have been a great option to eat at but rain started to drizzle so we dined inside. A table touch by management or ownership would have made this experience better. I would have put a 5 star review if the service was at least at bare minimum but it wasn't.

Yelp
3-1-24 Friday night the wife and I went there for the first time. We walked in the place and it was packed, it was 5:55 and we had reservations for 6:00 for 2. Other people walked in and asked for wait time and were told 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. I expected to be waiting for a while to my surprise they called us at 5:59 and took us to our table. I had the classic fish fry with potato pancakes and my wife had the Walleye. We ordered cocktails and they arrived in about 5 minutes and we proceeded to order our food. Food arrived within 10 minutes. The fish was very good, moist with a nice thin crispy coating. We both enjoyed the flavor and quality of the food and the service we received. We never felt rushed and even had dessert, a very good apple strudel. I complimented the hostess on the fact that we were seated on time. Our total time in the restaurant was 1 hour and 10 minutes. We will be going back to try some of the German food. Great job girls

Yelp
In full transparency this review is solely for the fish fry so I will definitely need to come back and try their other German delicacies. We had a group of 10 of us so a reservation was definitely needed because this place can get jamming. It was a snowy night so it probably wasn't as crazy busy as normal. Most of us opted for the four piece fish fry with potato pancake. The potato pancakes were the highlight of the meal. They were crisp and full of flavor with the right amount of onions. Fish was lightly breaded and not greasy but it just didn't have enough flavor in the breading for my liking. Also, if you are hungry the four pieces of fish are not huge so get the six piece. Coleslaw and bread were on par as one would expect. EDIT: I completely forgot about the amazing towering schaum torte that we all shared. We saw one at another table and immediately had to get one. This will be the highlight of your evening! Do not miss this suga-loaded treat. Service was good for our group size and of course the ambience is fantastic. During winter they setup a small ice skating rink outside. Personally I didn't want to break a leg so that was not on my agenda. I will definitely be back to try some schnitzel!
