Family‑run and community‑minded, Kei is known for friendly service and a broad sashimi and roll list. It appears in Edible Reno‑Tahoe’s sushi guide and shows up in local awards chatter—an inviting, independent alternative to bigger AYCE chains.

Really good sushi and cocktails. I loved the variety of vegetarian options and the saki-based cocktails were fun and unique. The only negative was that the menus were kind of dirty and sticky. Overall I think this is one of my new favorite sushi spots.

Kei Sushi is hands down my favorite sushi spot in Reno! The food is always fresh and flavorful, and their sake selection is the best in town. The service is consistently excellent friendly, attentive, and quick. I also really appreciate the atmosphere: it’s calm, never too noisy, and a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. On top of that, they offer great options for people with dietary restrictions, which makes it an easy choice when dining with friends. Highly recommend! 🍣✨

I've been to the sister location in North Carson on a few occasions, a couple years back. Before I lived closer. I would even drive a substantial amount of way to eat there, because there is nothing comparable from Gadnerville all the way up. Although I thought I had, apparently I never wrote a review, but I'm pretty sure I uploaded pictures. And that sushi joint was one of my all-time favorites! Fast forward to this location in Reno. I think I've been here at least once or twice before. Maybe not, but I have been to probably at least 75% of all the sushi joints in the immediate locale, and this one still holds the quality and tradition of the one down in Carson. I decided to pass on ohana, which is one of my top three favorite sushi joints last night and came down to Kei. Reminiscing on visits past. They have a pretty diverse menu, and every single thing I had was outstanding. Super fresh. I love the little twist they put on the quail egg shooters. Those have to be the best ones I've ever had, literally. I also like the diversity of the nigiri sushi. Seems that there's a lot more variations than at other places I've been to. I love the fact that they have "cocktails" with sake as the base. I had the Cucumber Saketini, and she had the lemon drop. Brilliant marketing, to upsell, and they were actually really good! I typically have a roll or two that I'll never order again from whatever sushi place I'm at. After I tried it the first time, but I enjoyed every single roll that I ordered from here, and would order everything a second time. I think my favorites were the pink lady, and the Tres Diablos. It's really hard to have a favorite because everything was so good. The place was really clean for the most part, paint falling off the wall towards the restrooms, but who really goes to the back of the house? Really nice typical Japanese decorum. Here are my only gripes. The menus are absolutely destroyed, to the point where they're almost illegible. I was told that they were only 6 months old, but other than the small print, a lot of the descriptions of the rolls, and the names of the rolls themselves were rubbed off. I personally think that having a pristine menu, speaks for the quality of the establishment, and makes a difference as far as experience goes. Other places I visited before, if the menu was in that condition, I would think twice about eating there. The waiter, was some super nice young kid, going to college. There were only two other parties in the entire restaurant, it was basically empty while we were there. I wish they would have paid more attention to pulling our empty plates and checking in on us. At one point I had to start stacking plates at the empty seat to my right at the sushi bar. Our chef was awesome, I do think that some of the presentation could have been a little bit better, and the crab that was placed on top of some of the rolls was pinched way too tight. To the point it would fall off in huge clumps, sometimes of the entire roll, anytime I tried to get a single piece of sushi. Other than that, it didn't really affect the quality and taste of the food. And I think the next time I go to sushi, I'll come back here again instead of going to my normal go to. All the staff were really nice, and gave us a nice farewell!

Google
Food was good, the service was great. Came with a large group for a party, and I was especially glad that the different rolls and nigiri ordered by separate people were placed together. It's nice that they kept the individual orders on individual serving dishes.

Google
One of the best sushi restaurants with AYCE options. The Rooster roll/ nigiri is unmatched. The Kei in Carson City is just as good.

Google
Came in today for lunch. They asked me to leave a review so here it is. Wonderful selection and great quality sushi. We only sampled a few rolls because we came for the ramen, which was also great. Really appreciate the "off-menu" Japanese beer that was suggested. I think it's Orion? We will definitely be back.

Google
I’m vegetarian my husband is not. They have a wide variety of vegetarian rolls that were excellent! 5 Stars for vegetarian offerings. My husband found the sushi to be good to average. 4 Stars

Google
This is literally me and my girlfriend’s favorite go to sushi spot. We genuinely always look forward to treating our selves and being able to come in and enjoy a nice dinner here. We’re both vegan and out of Kei’s already amazingly delicious menu their vegetarian options are NOT an afterthought, all of the rolls are very thought out and delicious. I loved sushi before I went vegan, before I came here I didn’t think I’d be able to enjoy good sushi really ever again but I was proved wrong because there vegetarian sushi menu is amazing and all the rolls on that section can be requested to be made vegan. Our favorite rolls to order are the zesty, the suno, and the tempura asparagus which are delicious. They even have vegetarian nigiri that can be made vegan as well which is pretty uncommon and I think that’s really special. I love the service here as well the staff is so amazing and my girlfriend and I genuinely have not had one bad experience coming here. Especially being that my partner has a tree nut allergy and we have never had a bad experience with asking for substitutions on some of the menu items.

Yelp
While in Reno this past Mother's Day and decided to treat my daughters to their favorite and while searching Yelp, I stumbled across this great AYCE sushi restaurant located on McCarran in the Trader Joe's shopping plaza. The restaurant is large but spacious! When we arrived around 5:30ish we were told there would be a 25 minute wait which was fine considering it was Mother's Day. The servers were friendly and very attentive and the many diners appeared to all be very happy so we were excited when our number was called to be seated. The fish was fresh and they have a large variety of rolls to choose from. We started with the baked mussels, cucumber salad and miso soup. All of which were yummy! Sadly it went downhill from there. Granted it was Mother's Day so I only deducted 1 star but the wait for sushi was beyond ridiculous. In total we were there for 3 hours and when our rolls finally came out, they were great but we had lost most of our appetite and were eager the leave so we left feeling a bit unsatisfied. The servers were aware and very apologetic and offered us a free strawberry mochi of which we appreciated. I will be back to give them a second go, definitely not on a holiday though.

Yelp
Tried this location for the first time today. Arrived for lunch. The parking lot was empty...maybe they should've been a sign. We were the only people in the restaurant for some time before two other people showed up. The maguro nigiri was tough. Not sure if they cut it wrong or what. The rolls were not very good. Service was fine. Overall, disappointing experience mostly due to the food. The Kei Sushi in Carson is WAY better.

Yelp
Long story short this has been my favorite Sushi spot the last 10 years. I compare every sushi place to this spot and this roll. I come here for almost all my birthdays and showing new people. This place has a special place in my heart and I will keep coming here as long as i'm alive. This place is by far the best sushi in town. GET THE RED DRAGON ROLL ITS THE BEST ROLL EVER!!! Not to mention the service is so on point and solid. Most other sushi spots always have ass service and by the end you're barely full and don't feel like all you can eat was worth it. Vs here I'm fully and happy money well spent everytime.
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
Great veggie roll selection!! There were 20 veggie rolls and even 4 vegetarian nigiri options. We were able to get a seat at the bar on a Saturday afternoon with no issue.
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
We went during an off hour when nobody else was here. All rolls can be made as long rolls or hand rolls. Nigiri is great! They have their "specialty" nigiris which is yum! The pieces are larger compared to other sushi joints so you'll fill up quick. The inside was nice. I recommend updating/changing their menus because their menus are starting to fade and they're kind of sticky to touch. Sushi price is a bit higher compared to other places, but worth it because they have many sushi creations that others don't have and makes you inclined to always try something different.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
Giving 4 stars as I have only picked up and have never eaten inside. Ambience is really quaint. A smaller restaurant but is busy allot. Have never gone beyond the entrance/register but you can clearly see inside. Service is always pleasant whether it is the wait, host staff, or the owner herself. She is a super sweet lady that loves her place. The food has always been quite delicious. Have had sushi as well as rolls and kitchen plates. 1 was a grilled teriyaki salmon. That was quite yummy too. I really do not have any complaints on this establishment.

Yelp
Came to kei sushi for the first time for my friends birthday dinner and it was delicious! One thing that is super interesting and unique to kei is that they don't give you papers to fill out for AYCE. Instead they have a server come by to take your order. At first I thought this was going to be annoying and that rolls would be forgotten but it was actually great! Our server came by our table more often than other sushi restaurants and I think a big part of that is because of the ordering system. I only order cooked rolls and every roll I ordered was good. There wasn't anything I was disappointed in. They have an appetizer called the dragon balls and I was obsessed. Basically a jalapeno popper. I think i ordered it 6 times. I would come here just for those. SO GOOD. Our service was great and our server was super nice and fast. We will definitely be back
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
Their Kei nigiri is one of my favorites! That and the ceviche app. The raw rolls are great. I don't eat cooked rolls too often but when I do they hit the spot.

Yelp
I really wish I could do half stars! I would give this last visit 3.5 stars. I visited Kei waaaaaay back when, when they first opened, but don't remember much of my experience or thoughts (pre-yelp elite days, perhaps?) So I was excited to come here with a friend and check them out again. We came at 6 on a Friday night, 10/18/2024 and I was expecting "Friday night date night" to be popping, but it was rather slow, which was nice, it gave my friend and I time to catch up and not have to be yelling over the noise to hear each other. She and I sat at the bar, and just had water to drink. The Good: The rolls were AMAZING. I chose this place based on the 'Sweet dreams' Nigiri Kei had posted. I didn't see it on the menu, but when I showed our chef the post he knew exactly what to do. The roll was soo delicious: Quail egg yolk, tobiko and Salmon and rice in the middle to hold up the yolk. The Bad: I'm a wuss when it comes to spicy. I wanted to try the Rooster Salmon nigiri, and it came with jalapeno, so I told the chef "no jalapeno". he said "Ok, Nigiri or long roll?" and I said "nigiri". he said "ok!" then he stood there. Moments later he began working on something but it was a long roll. I thought 'Ok, i'll try the long roll, that's fine.' Then he finished and handed it to the party next to us. He stepped away from his post and went to the back. When he returned, I asked about the Nigiri and he looked at me like it was the first time he heard me ask for it. I iterated 'no jalapeno'. Sure enough, it came with jalapeno. I pulled it off the nigiri and set it to the side, but still felt the power of the spice while eating. My friend that I was with told the lady who seated us that she would not be doing all you can eat, that she would be doing A La Carte. When we were seated, nothing was given to her to order such or keep track of the sushi. The "To Note": Nowhere on their menu do they list their prices. I'm not sure if they have a sign when you first walk in for the All You Can Eat prices, or a separate menu for the A La Carte with prices. At the end, my friend and I were given a bill for two All You Can Eats. My friend was ok with it, as she figured she probably ate AYCE's worth. We paid the bill and left. OVERALL: I was a little disappointed with the staff's inability to hear us on a quiet Friday night. But I was NOT disappointed with the quality of fish, or combination of flavors that were on the menu. I appreciated but also didn't like how the traditional Nigiri's you'd see at other places, weren't here. For example, my favorite Nigiri of ALL TIME: The Donald Duck. It was nice to branch out and try something new, but also a little sad to not see what seems to be a staple in the Reno Sushi scene. So do I recommend? Yes. I would just make sure next time I go to speak louder if I don't want something on my roll, or if seated at a table, to write out what I don't want the roll to have. And if I, or a friend, wants A La Carte, to speak up and make sure they know AYCE is not what we want.

Yelp
If you have never been to Kai Sushi in South Reno in the Smithridge Shopping center, this is a fabulous Five Star sushi restaurant choice. The ambiance is beautiful, Sushi is Fresh and Food Presentation is Five Star. Owner Silvia who has owned this fantastic Kai Sushi location for 7 years, gave us the most outstanding service and the best hand roll I have ever tasted. Emily and I love how you created 2 little cups with lemons for our chilled Plum Wine in the Hot Saki pitcher. Thank you to Sushi Chef's Marvin & Merlino for torching the Red Dragon and giving us a firey show at the same time. The TORCHED Red Dragon hand roll is the BEST hand roll I have ever tasted! We also ordered a 2nd Torched Red Dragon hand roll, baked muscles, seaweed salad, edamame and Salmon. Not only did we try the all you can eat lunch with my daughter, but then 2 days later I brought my friend Lelia in to also try this fantastic restaurant and Torched Red Dragon Roll. She loved it too! I can't wait to try your Bento Box next. Thank you Silvya for a Five Star dining experience for my daughter and my friend. A big shout out to server Kyra for a wonderful lunch and your Sushi Chefs. This is a wonderful Restaurant and dining experience. Truly Five Star. Julie A

Yelp
First outing of the New Year and the food is still amazing. This was the first time I've done a lunch outing and the only difference is the number of people. Our server was new and in training, but she was very organized. The fish was firm and flavorful. Not at all rubbery and didn't have a strong fishy odor or foul taste. Maybe next time I'll be brave and order outside my comfort zone.

Yelp
Such a chill place to have sushi. Sushi is a Zen experience for me. I love going to have sushi at spots that are relaxing. It gives you a chance to slow down and really savor the flavors. I really enjoyed the nigiri, especially the escolar, which I consider to be like butter. Super tasty and such a rich flavor. I am not a big fan of the rolls, I tried one roll and it seemed that the sauces and everything overpowers the fish. I would return to Kei just for the escolar and the ambience.

Yelp
Food is GREAT! Service is just horrible. I can't tell you how sad we were to take a 2 year break from this place bc the service was so bad and came back to poor service from these women. It's like we are bothering them when placing an order. Waited so long to be seated ( 3 tables in place total)
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome service and we love the food! My kids eat fish and my daughter had a blast eating everything off the menu she could. She was so happy. I'm ecstatic myself, they are courteous of the vegan diet. They have a HUGE vegetarian section on their menu but not only that it's absolutely delicious! I was already happy with the ones they had on their old menu, now there's more! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
It's so fun and rewarding going to a restaurant for the first time and discovering a great place to eat. We had a late dinner at Kei Sushi close to their closing time but we still received such kind service and wonderfully prepared food. I ordered their chicken teriyaki Bento dish and my hubby ordered the shrimp udon noodle bowl. Our friend who brought us there, ordered the AYCE sushi. When her sushi choices arrived it was beautifully plated and each sushi element looked delicious. This is her favorite sushi place which is why she brought us there! I loved my savory chicken teriyaki and the accompanying miso soup, California roll pieces and salad were perfect with wonderful flavors. I had a taste of my hubby's udon noodles and it was amazing too. Ordering that next time to have my own bowl! And then I also want to order the ACYE sushi to try their variety of offerings! The restaurant is comfortable with a pretty decor and calm ambiance. It was very quiet when we were there, but reading other reviews it can get busy. Can't wait to go back for lunch or dinner! It was wonderful to meet you Lucy!!

Yelp
Once again enjoyed a great meal! Birthday lunch for my friend, Did all you can eat as 2-3 rolls each would have been about the same cost and this way we each got an appetizer and my friend got ice cream with his meal. Drinks are not included but we each opted for ice water with lemon which is great with the salty sushi. We went about 1230 Saturday and got seated right away without a reservation. They did start to fill up after we got there. Our server was prompt and I was able to get the gluten free soy sauce as well as my crystal shrimp sushi which was divine! I love the crab strips on top of the Lily and this was my favorite! The Godzilla was good with the little bit of heat from the Siracha. My friend ordered the macho macho which is on the spicy side with Siracha and pickled Jalapeños. The Volcano came as two rolls and was very filling! We managed to eat most with my friend helping with mine. They do charge extra if you're unable to eat what you order but we didn't leave too much!! Stuffed but happy.

Alexis M.

Yelp
The decor was beautiful. The service was really bad, my friend and I were there for two hours for VERY simple ordering. Our orders were messed up twice and things took a very long time to come out. Like thirty minutes for two rolls bad, there were a ton of staff there and almost no customers, no reason why it should have taken that long. The sushi was mediocre at best with way too much rice on the rolls and nigiris.
google avatar

Margaret M.

Yelp
Did the AYCE at Kei. Our server was incredible keeping track of our orders and bringing them all out to us. She seemed to be one of the only waitresses, and she was awesome. Our table tried a lot of different rolls and nigiri--my favorite was the walu and maguro.
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Kei is great for a date night or family meal. The ambiance is nice -- good lighting, ample room -- and the service is excellent. They have a wide ranging menu with dozens of different kinds of rolls, the fish tastes fresh, and the prices are fair. We had the following rolls: rooster, rainbow, tres diablos, and caterpillar. Rooster and caterpillar were fantastic; tres diablos and rainbow were a tad dry but otherwise good. With miso soup and wine the bill came to roughly $100. Would come back to try more of the menu.
google avatar

Jacob P.

Yelp
Hands down our new favorite sushi restaurant! They have SO many great options on their menu, and they also have a big vegetarian selection, which is perfect for my wife. Great tasting food at a great price. We were so full we could hardly stand up afterwards lol Also, the service if very quick and very accurate with your orders, regardless of how busy it is at the time! They chefs and servers are very kind and provide the kind of service that all restaurants should! Unlike some sushi restaurants, this place has tons of room so you don't feel overwhelmed and you don't feel like you're sitting on top of others. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu items!

Andrea M.

Yelp
The sushi is always great. Service is quick and staff are friendly. We always come back for the tres diablos roll and nigiri. 10/10.
google avatar

Yvette H.

Yelp
The best Gluten free sushi in town! Having celiac disease means that cross contamination is generally a big concern at sushi restaurants - but not at Kei. Not only are the servers well informed as to which rolls, sauces, and menu items contain gluten, but there was a chef maintaining a gluten free space for making my celiac friendly rolls. There were even some ingredients that the chef said may be cross contaminated so they came and offered different options. It was an incredible experience! The decor and lighting are great too. Good music, good vibe, fantastic food. I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Samantha O.

Yelp
The ambiance was lovely, the green tea ice cream was great. It seemed like they only had the high sodium soy sauce, no order sheet for all you can eat, sushi just wasn't that good.
google avatar

Breanne C.

Yelp
We came here because I saw they had 9 vegetarian rolls! My daughter and I don't eat fish so I always appreciate a place that can offer vegetarian rolls. We tried three of them: Tempura Veggie Veggie Heaven Yasai They were delicious and fresh. Some of the pieces were cut too big. The restaurant was clean, bathrooms clean, and staff friendly. My husband enjoyed his all you can eat sushi (with fish) and even tried the habanero roll... very hot as expected! Their website is beautifully done also! Lots of thought and time put into their business.
google avatar

Kyle S.

Yelp
I came to dinner here on a Friday night with some friends of mine and my girlfriend. The only complaint I have has to do with our service. Our server had to be the most quiet and soft spoken server I've ever experienced. All he did was come to our table to take our order and during our dining experience, he took his break according to another server. This left us without food, missing items, and long ticket times. We had to flag another server down to figure out what was going on with our order and where our server was. Multiple people at our table were missing items and my guests had finished their food before we received our sushi. When the sushi finally arrived, it was very tasty and full of flavor! As a server at a restaurant, you are an important roll in the guest experience. Training servers to be communicative, vibrant, talkative, attentive, and fast paced is key to success!

Yelp
This is hands down the freshest tastiest sushi in reno.ive ate here 20 times this year. Service is very good. I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm long time resident of reno

John M.

Yelp
Food was awesome and fresh as always. Lucia our server was very attentive and friendly and despite being the only server was on top of every order and never missed a drink refill. Best dining experience I've had in a while.

Yelp
The sake salmon nigiri was good but I wasn't too much of a fan of their udon chicken soup. The vegis were freshly added but didn't really get cooked with the broth. Gyozas had skins that were a little bubbly.. maybe a bit too overfried, but the sauce was tasty. Plenty of parking in the lot outside but also possibly because it was a snow day when I went.

Yelp
OHHHH MY SUSHI!!!!! This is hands down my new favorite!!! Sushi place!! DAMN........ that was amazing! Let's talk KEI Sushi . Walk-ins are absolutely welcome and if you have larger parties... He may be able to get in, but a reservation would definitely recommend. The menu has a ton of options.... Not the usual suspects, if you ask me. I mean, how many times do you go sushi places in Reno and they all have the same but "different" options....right? Blah blah blah.... KEI is close enough to the other sushi menus in Reno To be able to identify what certain things are... However, over 90% of the the menu is different. I mean they have the same items but they're prepared and paired together in a different way creating different names, different styles, different seasonings, and different flavors. These guys absolutely do not skimp on anything! I really love that about this place. Outstanding service to the entire team and especially MIGUEL "Aka - Antonio Banderas" . This sushi chef was ON POINT!!! with everything he recommended, made, created and most of all described! Outstanding !!! I'm sure that the Fresh ingredients helped with the creation, but it takes a real artist to take those ingredients to a whole new level! The location is large enough to fit large parties but not To large to feel like you are getting swallowed up by the space. If you are a party larger than 10 I definitely recommend making a reservation. Parking is open and vast, because it's in the same parking lot as Trader Joe's. I will be coming here from now on and recommending this place and sushi chef "Miguel" to all of my friends, family, neighbors, strangers, coworkers!!!! Any and all of the people :) Seriously, though... Stop reading the reviews and just go! You will absolutely not regret it!! GET YOUR SUSHI ON!!!

Yelp
We went here for the first time the other night. Hidden in the plaza that Trader Joe's is in and what a gem. The restaurant is spacious with lots of tables and sushi bar seating. We didn't feel crowded with another table being too close either, which was very nice. Our server was fantastic. Checking in on us many times and offering suggestions. The food was delicious and creative. The rolls were good size and packed with flavor. They have all you can eat (AYCE) options for lunch and dinner for adults and kids. We will be back to try more options.

Yelp
Two years since my last review but less than two months since my last visit and that's because Kei is still one of the best sushi spots around. The menu here is unique, with specialty nigiri and rolls that are one-of-a-kind. The flavor combinations truly stand on their own and live up to their descriptions, the chefs are generous with their cuts of fish and the rice is nicely seasoned too. I really like their specialty nigiri. The rooster salmon is one of my favorites, as well as the spicy snapper (not the name on the menu), but you can't go wrong with any of them. The long rolls are also great, but they are massive and absolutely warrant sharing if you want to try a variety. Compared to other places, these come 8-10 large pieces per roll, and they are loaded with ingredients too. Our sushi chef was on top of it and the other chefs jumped in if he got busy. I will say they were not as personable and friendly as others I've experienced, and while I like that at sushi, I don't think that took too much away from the overall here. Kei remains in my top 3 and part of my constant recommendations when people ask where I like sushi. I suggest you try it out!

Yelp
Every time we come to Kei Sushi the food is made well and the atmosphere is always relaxing. LOVE this spot! I end up comparing everywhere else in Reno to Kei Sushi and no one else has been able to beat them!

Yelp
My wife and I just tried to give this place another shot after not going for a couple years. Same problem as last time, the service sucks. Great food, ample portions. We had to wait at least 20 minutes between orders to get our sushi and we were sitting at the bar. The waitstaff walking around were pretty much mute and never checked on us once in the 2 hours we were there to see if we needed more water, napkins, sake, etc. They were not that busy but only had about 3 sushi chefs for their huge sushi bar. Right up to the bitter end we had bad service. We had been done eating for about 20 min. and the chef knew that yet no one would bring us our check until I started flagging down employee after employee to finally get it. The chef apparently doesn't understand numbers either because everytime I ordered 2 of anything, I only got 1. I somehow got 3 orders of Walu which was excellent. So, we're not coming back ever again now because I don't feel like getting completely ignored as a patron for a $90 dinner even if it is good food. It's not worth it.

Yelp
Great sushi, great options, great AYCE price. I can write a long review about how great it was and how well they handled our party of 20 (they were amazing and attention so kudos to the staff) but I just need everyone here to know.... THE DESSERT ROLLS ARE AMAZING AND YOU HAVE TO GET THEM. If you're doing AYCE the get all of them!!! That's all, see you there!

Yelp
Food is overall pretty great although the cleanliness of this location needs major improvement. Sticky tables, sticky menus, my cup of water also smelled like dirty dish water or something similar. Asked for a new cup and waitress did not look surprised in the slightest. Kind of soured my meal and made my stomach churn. Not good guys cmon what's going on back there!

Yelp
I have drove past Kei Sushi a couple times and finally had the time to try them out. I was not expecting too much, but I was amazed by the service, decor, and food! Lucy offered my party of four the drinks menu. We got the Lychee Saketini, Cucumber Saketini, Sake Sangria, and the Peaches and Bubbles. The cucumber Saketini and sake sangria were on the sour side. The peaches and bubbles and lychee Saketini were sweeter. I absolutely loved the Peaches and Bubbles though! It tastes nothing like alcohol which is perfect for me because I don't like the taste of alcohol unless it's mixed with something sweet. Then we got started on the appetizers and sushi. For appetizers, we got miso soup, dragon balls, baked mussels, and seaweed salad. The miso soup was average, and a little too salty for my taste. The seaweed salad would have been better if it was chilled in the fridge. The dragon balls were a surprise because it's something different and I love the spiciness and crunchiness of the jalapeño. The baked mussels were my favorite! Kei's baked mussels are honestly the BEST mussels I have tried so far. They seasoned the mussels and does not cover the flavor of the mussels with a bunch of sauces. For the sushi, we ordered unagi, salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, salmon lover, caterpillar, red dragon, Fuji mountain, mamasan, a hand roll, and a few others that I don't remember the names of. In the beginning, the ratio of rice to fish was too much, but the later rounds they were more proportionate. They are also really generous with the fish on the nigiri! The most memorable nigiri was the unagi. I have never had unagi served so soft and warm that it melts in your mouth. I see why there is a limit for unagi per person. The deluxe combination rolls are much long than I expected, but I loved the presentation. I really appreciate restaurants that put thought into how the food looks when it's served. The interior design was also a little unexpected. It's unexpected in a good way. Everything looks upgraded and gives the modern Asian restaurant feel. The table for our table of four was a little small for the amount of food we ordered, but it was great that the staff were on top of removing the empty plates. The lighting was good during the day, but I wish it was a little brighter at night. There is only one bathroom for women and one for men, but they were clean. Finally, I would like to thank Austin and the owners for this opportunity to experience their service. Lucy and the rest of the staff were great for checking to make sure everything was ok. I definitely would come here just for the baked mussels, dragon balls, Peaches and Bubbles drink, and the unagi nigiri!

One of my favorite sushi spots in Reno! Typically pretty quick with the roles and I appreciate a the spicier roll options! Nice ambiance for a date night for sure

Yelp
This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Reno. Whenever I have something to celebrate, Kei is the place to be. I've had wonderful interactions with the staff here over the years, always treated kindly. Sitting at the bar is a great way to interact with the chef and see the skill that goes into crafting a delicious meal. Also, the selection of nigiri is unmatched. Depending on the time of day, you'll either find this place bustling or peaceful, but you'll get amazing service either way. Go and enjoy! Have a Taimon roll - it's my favorite (hence why there's no picture of it -- too good to even think about the camera).

Yelp
We came in the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Still good, but we noticed lots of rolls were not made according to the menu descriptions. Not sure what it was about but almost every roll had either missing or different ingredients. It was not a huge deal because the rolls were still tasty, but it seems like one of the sushi chefs was sort of winging it. I did not bother to take pictures. Service was a little scattered as well - took a long time to get our check. I still like this place, but will have to keep an eye out for the rolls and the contents of the ingredients.

Yelp
I love the sushi here! All of the nigiri has a nice spice to them that I think there's almost a Spanish fusion to the sushi here! I recommend the torched tuna and torched snapper, then the salmon lovers (salmon n salmon skin) and seared salmon. The pickled jalapeños that they use are just right!! Not too sour or spicy. Red dragon is great, probably my favorite roll. Blossom is the only baked roll during lunch- still yum. Ordered a few appetizers and the ice cream for dessert, also delicious. I really enjoy the food and I will admit the servers are fairly attentive and the food came out quickly but I'm going to give it 3 stars this visit for a couple of reasons-- 1. Hygiene & I get it- they probably don't cater to too many children. When we sat, we grabbed our own high chairs. Nbd. The first one we grabbed smelt like feces, so we put it back & grabbed another one for our son to sit. 2. My son is a recently turned 2 year old and my other son is a 4 month old with no teeth. So, I always order edamame to share at the table at every sushi restaurant for us and my oldest son to pick at while we feast on ayce. It keeps him busy, not pouty, and he likes them. He enjoys taking the bean out of the pods & eating them afterwards. My 4 monther enjoyed gripping on them and teething on the outer layer. My point is- considering all the food we ordered and finished, I was also charged for the edamame Al la cart/kids menu which is wild to me just bc IMO my sons didn't eat enough to charged. Disney, other theme parks, buffets, airlines, etc don't even charge for 2 year olds! Lol.

Yelp
Took 30 minutes for the first round of rolls. Ordered 3 more rolls and waited for 40 minutes with no rolls in sight. We asked for our check and no ayce and can't get that either!

Yelp
I've been here several times and this place never disappoints. This last time I chose to sit at the bar and it was an awesome experience. I could see how they prep the sushi and had a nice conversation with Chef Oscar. Their miso is really flavorful and the mushrooms give it an extra umami flavor. The ceviche tostadas are super good and the wonton tostada makes it lighter (better than a corn tostada) Some of my favorite rolls are Tom, tres diablos (pictured), Iris and blossom. The rooster salmon and fireball nigiri are really good as well Chef Oscar made us his specialty roll (not in the menu) and it was fresh and full of flavor. You must try next time you sit at the bar.

Yelp
So after placing an order online for lunch , their online program said it would be ready at 6:04 pm. I called several times at lunch and busy line. So when I got off I called to see if they had my order for 6 pm. Oh yeah it will be ready. Ok, picked it up and it was the absolute grossest thing I have ever seen. It has been in their fridge since 11 am. Owner says not her fault. Done with Kei and their gross ass sushi. You do NOT serve 5 hour old sushi. Disgusting. Now throwing up and sick from this sushi. Going to the hospital. Filing a complaint.

Yelp
Now I haven't tried every sushi place in Reno but Kei Sushi is definitely one pf my favorites. I have been here a couple times and it just hit the spot every time. The hosts are always welcoming and the servers very attentive and helpful. This last time we went we sat at the bar at the Sushi chef Oscar was a super great guy and he made amazing sushi. We really enjoyed chatting with him as we ate the great rolls he made for us. He even made made his special roll thats bot on the menu and it was so good. The choice of appetizers, nigiri and rolls is good and they had a good amount of unique items. Our favorite appetizer is always the ceviche tostadas. I really enjoy the Salmon Roster Nigiri and the Tres Diablos and Blossom Rolls. To end the delicious meal we had the coconut ice cream and it was so tasty. I will keep going back for sure!

Yelp
As a party of 6 we grabbed reservations well in advance for dinner sushi and when we arrived our table was ready for us! Cozy, tucked towards the back, perfect for our date night. I've never gone to an AYCE restaurant where you don't fill out the slip, which stressed me out at first, because creature of habit? But it turned out more than great. Our server was on it! Their sushi is very fresh, my husband said the best muscles in town. I liked all the options - it met all of the flavor pallets in our group.

Yelp
I'd actually give this business 4.5 stars if I could and only removed a star because they made us wait for a table and got mixed up and sat others that canned in after before us. They had a number of vegetarian options and bathroom was clean.

Yelp
I don't normally write reviews like this but my experience here was extremely negative. I want customers to know what they may expect here because the service here was appalling. One of the major problems that I noticed is that they don't use order sheets like many other sushi restaurants which leaves a lot of room for error and long wait times. I came here for my birthday. We all ordered AYCE. Many of our orders were forgotten and we had to check in with different servers an average for 6 times to receive each order. It took roughly 45 minutes to receive anything from water to nigiri. Many of the items that we ordered never came (even after asking repeatedly for them) and we ended up having to leave after spending 3 hours there. When we did receive our food, it was loaded with crunchy, stale rice and most of the orders were wrong. For example, I ordered a Rooster salmon hand roll and it came filled with mayo, crab, and rice (in addition to the traditional rice on the seaweed paper that makes up a hand roll). We all left unsatisfied and hungry. We were also promised mochi to celebrate my birthday but that never arrived. It was a terrible experience.
