"A new gourmet doughnut shop is opening near Bryker Woods: Donuts Please is aiming to open in the Jefferson Square shopping center at 1601 West 38th Street starting sometime in early 2020. Co-owners and couple Angel and Arianna Salinas want to open the 'best, well-rounded doughnut shop Texas has ever seen,' as they told Eater. They’ve been researching doughnuts across the country for the past three years. Expect doughnuts with various frostings, glazes, and fillings, as indicated by a Poached listing for the head baker. A job requirement is that the person 'must LOVE donuts.' Arianna Salinas worked as the restaurant manager of Japanese restaurant Morimoto and hotel Wynn in Las Vegas, as well as the corporate host manager for Hapa Sushi in Denver. They’ve also worked at Wolfgang Puck, José Andrés’s ThinkFoodGroup, and Austin’s Guy+Larry Restaurants (Red Ash, Salty Sow, T22, ATX Cocina, Roaring Fork). Once the shop opens, Donuts Please will host community-focused programming, and there are plans to expand with further stores." - Nadia Chaudhury

A very strange establishment. The first time I came here there was a sign on the window saying that they closed earlier due to running out of donuts. This was funny because you could clearly see racks of donuts through the window. The second time I came they were open! The employee was very disinterested in what he was doing, and kind of neutrally handed me the donuts I asked for in a bag. They were relatively inexpensive. However, these donuts were heavy and the icing was inconsistently hard and soft. They were very “meh.” Not great, not terrible.

Junk. Over cooked, dry, mostly flavorless, and stale. I could have made something more edible with random ingredients off the shelf. I honestly don’t know how a place can run a business like this knowing they serve a terrible....terrible product.

This is absurd. So gross! The donuts don’t even look like donuts they’re shaped real ugly, and the outside layer is drenched in oil, it seemed like they fried them in cold grease or something, and they were hard and stale. I was hesitant to buy a dozen but boyfriend was like maybe they’re just “different”. Yuck! Donuts are supposed to be super fluffy and melt in your mouth and this is the opposite and it tasted awful too. The place is dirty too. Very sad. Had to throw them away and go to a different donut shop

Was initially skeptical because of the infamous rumors and reviews, but honestly was extremely, pleasantly surprised when I walked in this morning. The owner was so kind as to offer us two complimentary donuts while we decided what donuts to choose (and did the same to the next two customers behind us). They’re pretty damn good donuts too. The owner really cares to make you feel welcome and cared for. I’m thoroughly surprised and know that I’ll be back again :) definitely another local small business to add to your list!

Thus place use to be good but i thunk someone bought it out. Not like the Ken's i remember and the foreign owner now is really rude and promised the donuts were fresh as he put them in the microwave. Not good anymore. Not even a little bit and he over prices his old donuts. If you want good fresh donuts with friendly staff SH donuts is the best in town now.

The BEST samosas in Austin. Even if the have none in the display case, they will make you some fresh. They are vegan and DELICIOUS!!!!!! The filling is perfectly spicy, not too hot or too mild. Just perfect. They let my son and me pick out a free donut while we waited. Excellent service and delicious North Indian food. Better than than that other Indian restaurant on 17th and Guadalupe. I have relatives from Chennai, so I know good Indian food. Trust me, the food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable.

Don't listen to the haters. The guy who runs this place doesn't give a damn about you, the ambiance is worn at best and the vibe is reminiscent of an episode of the twilight zone. But make no mistake, these donuts are made with love and as long as you get the donuts you ask for (which is no garuntee) then they are some of the best damn donuts you can get. Every trip to kens donuts is an experience and this place has certainly earned my five star review.
