Ken's on Western

The New York strip was huge! The flavoring and the cook, were spot on. Although the steak could have been more tender, it tasted delicious so I can't take off any stars for that. Upon seating they served complimentary bread with a tomato sauce and cheese, a small portion of noodle salad, and a slice of cooked bell pepper. The soup that I had before my meal was hot and welcoming. The house merlot went perfectly with the meal. Service was outstanding. Nice experience!

Wonderful old supper club vibe. All local people and great atmosphere. It's been a staple in the neighborhood for years, but it was my first time going. Definitely will return. It's a great place for a date, celebration of birthdays or just get together with friends. The pasta dishes are great, seafood was very nice, the standout for us was the Blueberry Bread Pudding, topped with Vanilla ice cream, Blueberry sauce & Whipped Cream. Phenomenal.

The food is great but I have to say our waitress was so amazing!!! Not only was she professional and funny but she also had a great memory. We had been in another time and had Kristin, this time I forgot to say he was allergic to tomato when I ordered his salad for him and she remembered and made him a special salad. I would highly recommend sitting in Kristin's section for anyone going there. She's the perfect addition to a wonderful dinner! I know I will be a return customer to her section every time!

We had an amazing experience at Ken's. The food, the service, and the spirits were awesome. Looking forward to visiting again.

We love it here and have for years. As restaurant owners down the block, this is our go-to stop for a martini when we need a break. Always seeing friends, the best chicken picatta and a friendly staff who remembers faces - we will always be regulars!

This place is a solid two stars. Had not been by in a while so I gave it a try. Mediocre at best. They used to give you a pickle tray and focaccia bread. I got one slice of the bread, a small bowl of cole slaw and a single slice of pickled green pepper. The meat loaf tasted like high school lunch room meat loaf. When I asked for more bread, I was informed it would be a four dollar upcharge for another bread serving. Seriously. Hard pass on this place. Not long for this planet at this level of poor execution.

A good local place. Very good food, adequate service, plenty of parking. We went on a Friday night and it was crowded. Make a reservation. Good selection of specials. I had the blackened grouper with shrimp risotto. Excellent. Reasonable prices. Limited wine list. Excellent piano player that night.

The restaurant was great!!!! Friendly and cozy atmosphere. The waitress was polite, courteous, and professional. She helped us decide on a great meal since it was our first time there. The food was delicious!!!! This restaurant is definitely a staple in Beverly. Kudos to the staff and especially the waitress.

The appetizers here is good as I ordered the baked clams and fired calamari. Only place that offers you a open face pizza bread. we ordered some entrees hoping it was just as awesome as the appetizers. The Linguini and clams was overly saucy and more like alfredo and noodles. All the entrees are overly seasoned. I would recommend the appetizers. Free parking in the rear. The service was great like the decor.

Amazing place , Great Lake perch and daily specials ... we love all the servers and bartenders . Everyone takes great care of us ! Fun , delicious Beverly Neighborhood GEM ! We Live in Palos Park and still come back to Beverly for KENS !!

I live in the area but never visited Ken's. This place was wonderful. Business was booming. I was seated maybe ten minutes after my reservation but I did grab a couple of seats at the bar where I enjoyed an Old Fashioned. Table was great. It's small but not to the point where you are hearing other people's conversations. Two entrees, New York strip and crab stuffed shrimp, were phenomenal. A couple bottles of Pinot Grigio plus a huge piece of cheesecake for desert left me completely satisfied. Live piano player in the bar. This place is old school cool. I will return.

I'm sorry it took us so long to finally try Ken's On Western. We had an extra evening. Great service from Amy even when it got unexpectedly crowded. The lamb and orange roughy we ordered were delicious. Nailed the pink on the inside of the lamb chops. The orange roughy was light and full. Love that they have a local beer offering, like from down the street from Open Outcry. The ambiance is lovely too!! Exactly what you would expect a small chop house vibe to be.

The food is good. The service is awful. I love stopping in this place, but the bartenders consistently seem to disappear and forget you exist. Which sucks, because it is one of the nicer places in the area otherwise. I just wish the management did a better job overseeing that.

The food at Ken's is excellent! This place is a quaint little restaurant with top-of-the-line food and service. The lamb was delicious and the liver and onions entree was delectable. The food is moderately priced and well worth it. Reservations are recommended.

I enjoyed my visit. The food was good. Service was good and the portions were enormous! I'd definitely go back in the future.

Old school Friday/Sunday night Supper club. The Braised chicken is phenomenal, and my husband is always happy with their specials. Great place for a comfort food date night.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Everything we ate was great. From the complimentary food, to the appetizers, to the entrees. I don't know what they use for the cucumbers and peppers, they pass out, but it was SOOOOO GOOD! I was taken aback, and couldn't stop eating it. We had the oysters for appetizers, and my table agreed they were also really good. For the entree, what I had was a chef special for that day. It was the crab stuffed salmon, with asparagus and mashed potatoes. Very filling and tasty. My sister and I enjoyed our meal immensely. Also, another one of my sisters had a chicken dish (I'm sorry I forgot what it was), I tasted that too and it was also good. Just overall a pleasant experience. The ambiance and service was nice, and intimate, 10/10.

The service was great. Jackie was our server and was knowledgeable of the specials and wine pairings for the entrees we chose. The atmosphere was a warm, yet dimly lit dining area. There's a bar on the other side which served one of the best "Death By Chocolate" martinis I've had in long time. This little miracle on Western was such a surprise to my hubby and myself, that we're looking forward to going back.

My family and I have going to Ken's on Western for more than 50 years the food and service has always been great

A must try spot. The food was delicious and the service was great. We had the shirt ribs, rib eye steak and a spicy chicken pasta. All the good was cooked to perfection. We had drinks and took dessert home. It's a place I will be going back for more. You will have to try it for yourself.

Ken's on Western is great! I went with a large party for a friend's birthday (about 20 people) and everyone had a great experience. The service was great! Everyone's order was 100% correct which doesn't always happen with large parties. The food was very tasty, and the portions sizes are HUGE! All entrees come with a number of complemtary appetizers (pizza bread, pickled bell peppers, potato salad, and a veggie tray). Next, I had the calimari as an appetizer and the batter was very light and it was fried with just right. For my entree, I had the chicken tortellini with a vodka sauce, and it was great. Because of all the appetizers I was full by the time my food came so I ended up taking most of it home. I would defiantly recommend Ken's On Western, especially for large parties or if you want huge portions!

We had a large group and Colleen and her support staff treated us just wonderfully! The service was incredible and the food was outstanding. Thanks to Ken's on Western for taking care of us.

My family of 7 went to Ken's for my birthday. The 3 who ordered steaks medium rare had to send them back because they were PURPLE, not even rare. The waitress, Maggie, was nice but should have summoned the manager for such an F-up. The other dinners were good but not great. I later received a credit but it was a bad experience.

Checked in for my birthday. It's been a few years since I was here last. Upgrades made space more updated. Food and the service was great. The prices are affordable. I can see myself coming more often now.

Not sure what has happened in just 365 days... First visited on bday 8/8/22; loved it so much, decided to return 8/8/23 (5:15pm reservation). Ordered filet mignon--food was cold--especially the mashed potatoes. Server, although kind, neglected to "sell" me anything. Told her it was my birthday--no reaction at all. Didn't even run down the 'specials of the day' to me. And this $9 slice of carrot cake: IT'S STALE. I'm so incredibly disappointed.

First time here. Wanted to try a local restaurant. Customer service was good, but food was not. My salmon was perfectly prepared but it was swimming in a lemon caper sauce. The double baked potato and pizza bread was good. The clam chowder tasted fishy. A medium rare steak came out VERY well done-actually, it was burnt. When we told the waitress, no apology was given.

Wisconsin supper club vibes tucked into a small, cozy space on the southside. Great drinks, great steaks, great service all at a reasonable price. Can't wait to go back.

Ken's On Western is my favorite because their foods are so deliciously prepared.

I've never been disappointed here. Been there for appetizers and drinks as well as meals for two or meals for eight. Great staff, excellent food, atmosphere is spot on. High end food, offerings for little people, atmosphere for the theater or casual night.

I would definitely give a strong 3.5-4 stars for this spot. Super cute spot on Western! Cheese bread was good couod have used like 3 more baking minutes. The cheesesticks were amazing!!!!! Clam chowder a little salty but the Cajun chicken pasta was pretty good. I think breaded chicken would have set this completely off to 5 star status. Probably will go back

This is a GEM. A+ rating from my dear friends Bubba, Dennis and Cathy... and me! Excellent service and the best ambiance. Delicious fresh food at such great prices. We had eggplant parmesan, lake perch and chopped steak. Fabulous!!

Great food. Been living near this place for 40+ years and decided to try the food. Fish platter and Cajun chicken fettuccine was awesome! I will be back .

Went here for dinner with a table of 6. We had reservations. We stood in the small entrance way where we had to shuffle around for customers entering and exiting for 35 mins before "our table was ready." Complimentary bread and cucumbers were brought to the table, but portion size was for a table of maybe 4. When we asked for more so the entire table could have some our waitress told us we would need to pay for it, and we did because we were starving and just waited 35 mins to sit. Why offer anything if it can't feed the entire table? I then ordered the 10oz filet medium well temperature. When the steak came it was completely blackened and over cooked even for a well done temperature. I informed the waitress the steak was not cooked at the correct temperature and even showed her the inside and said it's not pink in the middle as medium well should be. She said ok and that they would make me another. When the 2nd steak came out my table was nearly done eating. The waitress said the chef said to cut the steak in the middle to verify the temp was correct. This steak was again completely blackened and so well done I could hardly cut into it with a steak knife. At this point I did not want this steak nor any other so I sent it back and told her I do not want another. Then a woman who I am guessing was a manager as she did not introduce herself came over to say "just so you know, we don't cook our medium well steaks pink in the middle." I told her that is fine, but this should be stated to customers because a medium well steak that is not pink in the middle at a restaurant that boasts steaks and chops as a specialty is something I have never encountered before. No one offered a steak at a medium temperature or a replacement meal nothing was offered. The approach from the manager was just to inform me I should have known better. Very disappointing experience all around Between the long wait with a reservation, high prices and extremely overcooked meals. The other orders we had were the chicken piccata that was extremely dry and over cooked, shrimp linguine with tough over cooked shrimp, and chicken parm that was also over cooked to toughness. Our bill was $500 dollars and no one had a plate they enjoyed due to over cooking. Hopefully they are able to rectify this for future customers.

This was my second not to great meal at Kens. Went for Valentines Day and had the short ribs which were chewy, tough and not seasoned well. So much of the membrane was left on the meat I couldn't swallow. The pasta dish my wife had with the Alfredo sauce was lacking sauce and taste. Very disappointing since we eat here very frequently. On my other visit I had the meatloaf which was also bland, with nothing special to add to this classic dish. I will give it one my try however before crossing it off my list of resturants.

The chop was burned and you can touch the burned and they said they are not responsible for the burn ness. so my friend is left cutting edge off like it's a sandwich. If they fix it is was cost her. I didn't appreciate that.

Anyone considering bringing their small kids to Ken's, DO IT!!! We dined here Oct. 22 2021 and it was the first time taking both my kids, ages 1 & 2.5, to a restaurant so I was very anxious and nervous of how the whole experience would go. I had been to Ken's in the past and had a great meal and service. Well this time in particular blew me away. Everyoen from the hostess, waitress and bus servers were friendly, kind, and full of smiles. I would say my kids behaved, but don't we all say that about our kids lol. But the staff sat us promptly without a reservation, got two high chairs and crayons and paper to entertain the kids. We ordered for the kids immediately and food came quick, this gave the adults a buffer to enjoy a drink while the kids ate. I just can not thank Ken's enough for the great service and hospitality. If you've never been, please go and don't be nervous about brining the littles :)

My husband and I's first time visiting Ken's was to celebrate our anniversary. We will never go back. The waitress was very inattentive and impatient when we asked for suggestions seeing as though it was our first time. I ordered the lake perch and it had absolutely zero flavor; I actually laughed after my first bite because I was confused how something could appear to have seasoning but be completely flavorless. Very overrated and pricey.

Been here multiple times for multiple occasions. Whether it is a family birthday celebration, holiday dinner with friends, or elegant dinner with my family everyone is very complimentary about the selections, meals and atmosphere. There is something for everyone and always prepared perfectly.

There's not a whole lot of higher end restaurants in Beverly, so it's good to see another one there for special occasions. I know my family has been there many times but i went for the first time last week. Pretty good beer list, some craft staples. For food I got the baked orange roughy, my first time having roughy, but it was very soft and moist and good. I ordered it with pub chips and minestrone soup, both good. Everyone else seemed to get some sort of steak, which looked good, but I was in the mood for some fish. I'm sure I'll be back as it's become a go to spot for my family

Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is surprisingly tasty! I was surprised at how cozy it was inside and the food is Great!!!!!

Recommend the steaks and blackened pork chops. Good food and service. Reasonably priced. Inside dining area is a little small, and can get loud in there.

Hopefully is was a once in a blue moon experience. I don't know if I have ever been so frustrated at dinner. Made a reset for 8:30. Got to the restaurant a few minutes early and was seated outside. Waited a few minutes for the waiter to come over only to have a young man come over and urge us to order right away since the kitchen would be closing at 9:00. Never once did he take an order for drinks. Figured he knew best so we ordered an appetizer and entrees right away. He brought out our appetizer and the salads came out about a minute later. He took the salads back and allowed us to enjoy our baked clam appetizer. One of my biggest pet peeves at a restaurant is a poorly timed meal. I tried to continue to be optimistic that dinner could be salvaged. I asked to speak to the manager to no avail, said she wasn't there. Ok, I threw in the towel. Just give me the bill and we will be on our way. So dinner only cost me about $14 or whatever the appetizer cost. My friends who recommended this place tell me normally it's fantastic. I might try it again, but I don't know. Dine at your own risk. Maybe it will be good...maybe it won't.

This was my first time at Ken's. Alł of the wait staff were wearing masks. The relish "tray" was not what I was expecting. My dinner partner and I did not eat the slaw; the pickled peppers were delicious; and the pizza bread was good. My Caesar salad's dressing was not good but edible. There are daily specials and Monday was spare ribs so that's what I ordered. I bit fatty for my taste but it was tender and well seasoned. My partner had the filet and it was cooked perfectly. We were full but since we were celebrating my birthday we had dessert. At first, my partner said no to dessert but when she saw how wonderful my apple cake dessert looked, she ordered the carrot/cheese cake. They were both delicious. I will definitely be back.

Wanted to update my review, given Covid. My family order dinner tonight from Ken's. Free local delivery. It was at our house in about 30 min, and was just as fresh, hot, and delicious as when we eat in the restaurant. Definitely recommend for takeout!!

Very poor service. Would not recommend. Watched as others, who arrived after us got their orders taken before us. One table even had their meals before our orders were taken. Another had their salads, tried to get attention of the waitress but was ignored. Should have just walked out.

Delicious. Our entire meal was spectacular. The waist staff was wonderful. First time out to dinner since the pandemic and couldn't have chosen a better place. Every single experience at Ken's or delivery from, has been great.

This place is wonderful! The food we ordered was delicious and perfectly cooked. Lake perch pan seared, prime rib and the BBQ ribs. My family enjoyed this place very much and will definitely return! The staff is very friendly and kind. You can't go wrong here.

I've been going to Ken's with my dad since I was a kid but admittedly haven't gone in about 5 years. Boy am I glad that I did! We used to go for lunch as my dad was always a bit on the frugal side. Same delicious food, even better price. Tonight we stopped in...First we were given coleslaw (that was some of the best I've ever had), a relish tray, and perfectly cooked pizza bread (all complimentary). The chicken noodle soup was fantastic! For the main course I had a spicy penne with a light cream sauce and chicken. I was nervous because it's summer, but the sauce was very light (not thick) and the flavor was perfect. You'd have to like spicy food for this dish but it's soooo good. The portions are HUGE so you'll have lunch for tomorrow. My dad got the perch dinner with a double baked potato. It deceivingly looks like a small portion, but he could barely eat it. Tender, buttered and lightly breaded to perfection. It was perfect. Plus we had SO much food even before it arrived. The service from the server, busser and even maybe an owner were super attentive and so kind...always making sure we were taken care of. For those saying it has too much of a 70s vibe, I disagree... It's not. You can opt for the cool 60s lounge-y vibe with intimate wrap around booths in the bar, or you can go to the left for a more finer dining old school Italian feel. Sure it's nothing ultra hip, but more importantly it's consistent and delicious. Keep up the good work!

Bar on one side; restaurant on the other. Food was awful. Beef stroganoff was chunky and salty. Noodles and sauce bland. Prime rib was salty and overcooked in places. Salad was ok. They serve a relish tray to make it look like an old-fashioned steakhouse. It is not! Just a pub. Even the perch was bland. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. My husband and i should have sent the food back. The menu was too extensive for this tiny neighborhood place.

I've been coming to Ken's Since I was 15 years old with my mom & dad they have great food & service. Love the bar we always run into a lot of wonderful friends when we stop in for dinner

Filet Mignon was delicious. First visit, boy is this place a hidden gem. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. Pizza bread with every entree. Currently in a food coma.

Better than I expected. Was a little worried when I walked in and saw the bar lined up with old gents...but the food & service squashed that first impression. Found it a bit pricey, but delicious. Will return for sure.

This is a curious little joint around the corner from me. It looked like it was usually crowded and had an interesting look about it...like it had some local personality. Well, if this is the local 'personality', I'm dismayed to be a local. We took a couple friends there...big mistake. The service was, simply put, rude and dismissive. The server spent most of her time on the bar side, which appeared to be full of regulars, and made no efforts to hide her annoyance when we had the nerve to ask for her attention. At one time, when we had been trying to track her down (mind you, this place is very small) for about 10 minutes, we asked another staff person for a piece of bread...or something simple like that. Then our server swooped in...seeming super-offended that we went 'over her head' or made her look bad...or something. What we received then was a piece of really stinky Wonder bread. I kid you not. Wonder bread. The busser, bless his 12 year old heart, couldn't even refill our water once...so I sat empty the majority of the meal. And trying to get our check? Forget it. Anyway...the food was mediocre, at best...but the suckiness of the service is what really stands out. Just don't go.

I love how a previous reviewer gives this place a single star because of service. Really? Your going to tell thousands of people not to go because you had one bad experience? If life worked like that, none of us guys would have had sex beyond our first time! Our women simply would have given up. I went there for the first time last Friday. The place was very busy with an older crowd but we were seated promptly. The server was just fine, food was old fashioned but good, and bill came out to be quite cheap. There's a reason this place has been around forever.

heard about this place on 19th ward fb page. sounds good. called 630pm and told when they closed. good plenty of time. asked about tonight's dinner specials. sounded pretty good. then decided that i'd rather eat at home to rest more after 2nd pfizer shot and after learning of two more of my police colleagues(i retired march of 2020) had been shot earlier in day. i was told that i could not order take out that day! wth! never ate there and now guess that i won't.

Was the best restaurant on Western Avenue, now, higher prices with dinners that don't measure up to past entrees. Very comfortable atmosphere with some of the best servers on the Southside.
