"A longtime Austin tradition and staple, Kerbey Lane is at the top of the pack when it comes to breakfast in Austin. From pancakes to migas, Kerbey has it all—even serving queso as a socially acceptable option in the AM. Our favorite location (and the one with the most charm) will always be the original, inside a converted craftsman on Kerbey Lane. But they’ve gotten their formula down at their other several locations too." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion, matthew jacobs
"A concession location offering frozen lime margaritas at Section 136." - Courtney E. Smith
"Famously, most locations of the Austin diner chain were open 24/7, but that changed because of the pandemic. However, since then, the South Lamar diner has returned to somewhat some all-hours services, just on Saturdays. For those out all night on a big weekend, head here for breakfast all day — think migas, chicken and pancakes, chicken and pancakes, and just about every variety of breakfast platter that could be dreamed up. Vegan pancakes are also an option." - Nadia Chaudhury
"Magnolia Cafe is older, and Toasty Badger is better, but Kerbey Lane Cafe is Austin’s quintessential diner, having ballooned to nine locations across the area since 1980. The original, a renovated bungalow, is easily the most charming. Any of them are usually packed, though, especially on weekends. You'll find just about every demographic under one roof: a couple in athleisure, parents begging their children to settle down, and friends who couldn’t get a reservation at a trendy spot like Paperboy. The highlight at Kerbey Lane is the migas platter served over tortilla chips, but their menu has all of the requisite diner staples, too." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs
"Mueller’s Kerbey Lane Cafe might not have all of the charm of its original location in a refurbished house on Kerbey Lane, but it does have most of the menu. Come for the pancakes, and stay for the signature Kerbey Queso—it’s among the best in town. And if you manage to grab a coveted Sunday morning table, you can walk off some of those fluffy syrup-covered carbs at the farmers market right across the street." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion, matthew jacobs
