After finishing an exciting snorkeling trip, my wife and I headed straight to Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe, and what we experienced there was nothing short of unforgettable.
To our surprise and delight, we were greeted outside by the original Mr. Kermit himself, dressed in full signature attire. He took the time to personally welcome us and share the incredible story behind the shop—how he opened it more than 30 years ago, how it began as a small local idea, and how it has since grown into eight additional locations while still preserving its original charm. Hearing the story directly from the founder made the experience feel personal and meaningful, not touristy or rushed.
Mr. Kermit also shared fascinating details about the history of the building and the town, explaining what the space once was before his shop existed and how everything came together over time. It was clear that this place is deeply rooted in the community and built with intention, creativity, and pride.
Once inside, we were helped by Ms. Traci, who provided truly outstanding customer service. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly thoughtful, especially since many of our purchases were intended as gifts for family and friends back home. She made sure everything was carefully wrapped exactly the way we wanted and took great care to ensure nothing would be damaged during travel. That level of attention and kindness really stood out.
The ambiance inside the shop is absolutely charming. Every wall is decorated with vibrant colors, playful prints, and signature designs that reflect the fun, joyful personality of the brand. The space feels cozy, cheerful, and completely unique—small in size but full of character and personality.
And of course, the treats speak for themselves. If you’re in this area, this is easily some of the best Key lime pie and cookies you will find. Everything feels fresh, well-made, and crafted with care. Combined with the upbeat, welcoming atmosphere, it’s the kind of place that instantly puts you in a good mood.
This was more than just a quick stop—it was a memorable experience filled with great stories, incredible hospitality, and delicious treats. If you’re visiting Key West, Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe is an absolute must-see. We are so glad we stopped and will definitely be back.
