"Why book? Virginia’s Keswick Hall brings together everything you’d want out of a weekend getaway—a serene countryside setting, a pool you could spend hours in, activities for the whole family, and impeccable food. Set the scene If driving up to the grand entrance of Keswick Hall, in Charlottesville, Virginia, feels like arriving at a friend’s incredibly fancy private home, it’s because that’s exactly what it used to be. The hotel’s most recent renovation, which took nearly four years and wraps in October 2021, pays homage to the original architecture of the historic property while modernizing it and adding pops of whimsy. Structure aside, the property is full of wow moments, from the sprawling Pete Dye–designed golf course to the infinity pool that wouldn’t be out of place in the Caribbean. You’ll likely see the D.C. politicos using this retreat as a weekend getaway—Bill and Hillary Clinton were some of the first guests post-renovation. The backstory Built for the Crawford family in 1912, the property has changed hands several times, with former lives as a country club, an Orient-Express hotel, and the home of Sir Bernard Ashley—husband and business partner of designer Laura Ashley. Owners Robert and Molly Hardie took over in 2017, and soon after embarked on a top-to-toe renovation, with hopes of transforming and expanding the historic property. No detail was spared in the renovation, which took the building down to its studs and redid everything from the plumbing and technology to the individual footprint of the various rooms. Original fireplaces were restored where possible, as was the intricate millwork and crown molding. Throughout the space, there are nods to the property’s history, including a snooker table owned by Sir Bernard Ashley (much of his antique furniture, now carefully restored, is peppered throughout the space too). The rooms The renovation brought the guest room count from 48 rooms down to 38, and each room feels refreshingly unique. The room layouts and furniture differ immensely, so if you prefer a desk to work at or a walk-in closet with plenty of storage space or both, be sure to request it when booking. The rooms are decorated in shades of white and cream, putting the focus on the art, which in many cases is photography of the surrounding area by local artists. The bathrooms are spacious, with showers big enough that you can turn the showerhead on without getting splashed by a drop of cold water. The minibar in each room includes complimentary snacks and drinks, including Clif bars, La Fermiere yogurt, and cans of La Colombe cold brew. The technology has been upgraded in a subtle but effective way, with plenty of outlets, motion sensor lights under the bed, and panels that offer varying levels of dimness for the lights in the room. Many rooms have private terraces that overlook the golf course. Another 42 rooms will open up in the near future, bringing the total to 80. Rooms start at $995. Food and drink There are a few places to eat and drink in the hotel, including The Counter, a grab-and-go spot with pastries, coffee, and snacks; Crawford’s, the all-day restaurant and bar named after the building’s original owners; and the star of the show, Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Marigold. The Marigold menu relies heavily on herbs and vegetables from the owners’ nearby farm, Oakdale, and dishes rotate seasonally. Some highlights from our visit included the burrata, served with housemade ciabatta and cherries, the spicy fried chicken served on a bed of garden greens, and the pizzas, made in a wood-fire oven. Don’t skip the bread served at the beginning of the meal, especially if the briny olive-studded bread is available. The neighborhood/area The property is located about 15 minutes away from Charlottesville, home to the University of Virginia. Other nearby attractions include Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, James Madison and James Monroe’s homes, as well as several excellent vineyards, orchards, and breweries. You’re in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and driving up just about any peak will lead to fantastic views. The service Southern hospitality at its best—friendly and welcoming, but with a casual, never-pushy feel.  For families Our room had a walk-in closet that was ideally sized to fit the Pack ‘n Play the hotel provided. I loved that the closet had its own light controls and a sliding door that we could leave slightly ajar, as well as outlets for the baby monitor and white noise machine. If you’re traveling with a baby, it’s a fantastic set-up for a little bit of separation. Those with older children might want to opt for a full suite or rooms with connecting doors. But there are plenty of family-friendly layouts among the rooms.  Eco-friendly efforts As someone who always brings a water bottle when I travel, I really appreciated the filtered water stations located on each guest floor, which were great for filling up water bottles on our way out each day. Accessibility The renovation made the property completely ADA-accessible, from the food and drink spots to various rooms. Keswick Hall hosts tons of events, and the beautifully designed, ADA-accessible bathroom in the event space is a source of pride. Anything left to mention? A percentage of each night’s stay goes toward the Thomas Jefferson Foundation. The owners are longtime Charlottesville locals and felt it was important to work with the nonprofit, which owns Monticello. You’ll find a smattering of Monticello items in the gift shop, from educational books to cards." - Stephanie Wu

A-mazing The room and the hotel itself are beautiful. The pool and hot tub are divine. The view of the golf course is insane. The Marigold restaurant by Jean-Georges is absolutely exquisite. It's hard not to enjoy yourself being surrounded by such beauty. The staff were top notch. I would absolutely recommend this place. Dinner at the restaurant is a must. It's a perfect getaway.

I am checking out tomorrow morning and am sad to go. I came to Charlottesville for plastic surgery and stayed at Keswick Hall for a week post procedure. I was beyond impressed with the kind, respectful care that the entire staff provided during my stay. I looked like I had been hit by a Mac truck, but, that did not matter to the staff, they all treated me with such kindness and respect. The rooms are clean and quiet, I slept like a baby in the wonderful beds and the room service food was delicious. Near the Keswick there is a nice neighborhood that was lovely to walk through. They even brought an extra fridge for my protein shakes etc which was a nice addition. Would definitely stay here again!

I’ll start by saying the property is absolutely gorgeous. The pool has a beautiful view of the golf course and surrounding mountains. The room was beautiful with a large shower, closet, and tv. We had a beautiful view of the pool. The bed was also super comfy and loved the turn down service every night.||The only negatives are it was kind of loud in our room. We could hear people and doors closing in the hallway. Felt like the room was always a little bit warm regardless of where we set the thermostat. Shower head took a really long time to drain so would drip for a really long time but don’t think it was actually leaking.

We just spent our Honeymoon at this beautiful resort. It is absolutely stunning inside and out. Beautiful views everywhere you look. We played golf at Full Cry twice. Wonderful course and beautiful Clubhouse. The pool is spectacular. We ate at Crawfords, the Clubhouse and Marigolds. Exceptional service was to be had everywhere. We will certainly be back. If you are looking for peace, quiet and luxury, this resort will not disappoint.

We stayed at Keswick for a quick trip over Labor Day weekend, and it was exactly what you would expect from a 5 star resort. The property, guest rooms, dining options, and staff were all top notch. Every person we interacted with, from the bell staff to front desk, management, restaurant, etc. was incredibly hospitable and friendly. Most notably Lacey, who was wonderful with our little ones, chatting with them daily as we passed by the shop and exchanging jokes with our 5 year old. He regularly asks when we’ll return to Keswick, and we will most certainly visit again.

This was our second trip to Keswick Hall. It has been completely remodeled since our first visit in 2017. The property is absolutely beautiful in every way. They managed to keep the charm it had in 2017 and improve on it. The dining options are Crawford’s and The Marigold. Both have fantastic food. We traveled as a family with 2 young children and the Keswick is accommodates this well. There are two pools, one for families and the horizon pool, both wonderful. All the common areas are luxurious but comfortable and inviting. There is a billiards room, library, two common areas that are set up for cozy game time or reading a good book. The rooms are perfection and the views from basically everywhere are beyond words. The staff is courteous, kind and helpful. The entire building is CLEAN and the grounds are kept well and gorgeous. Amazing trip and made just unforgettable by Cassie and David. Two staff members that I will never forget

Outstanding location. Great pool with food and drink service. Vibe was a bit too White though. Rooms easy to use and had a great bath. The spa was wonderful. EV chargers were a big plus, too and key in us choosing the spot. Staff very kind. Close to Charlottesville.

Wow! What a spectacular experience. The horizon pool was a glamorous and fun place to spend a lot of our time. We enjoyed multiple lunches poolside and the waitstaff was attentive to bringing chilled carafes of water and checking on us (but subtlety so). We also enjoyed walking around the property, working out at the gym, and dining at Marigold. Our personal dinner favorites were the watermelon smash cocktails, tuna tartare, and truffle pizza! All of the food was so fresh, of the highest quality, and inventive. Jake (head of rooms) truly made our experience. He could not have been more hospitable, generous, and kind by ensuring we had a spectacular view, plush room, and treats to enjoy. I personally appreciate the resort's focus on the outdoors, wellness, and restoration. There is a classic, luxurious feel to the atmosphere but it also feels fresh and approachable. It's an ideal place to revive yourself and also spend quality time with those you love. My sister and I loved being able to do things together and just chat while relaxing. We kept saying, "we don't want to leave" and had to drag ourselves out of there. We will certainly be back and next time will make sure we book a massage and play tennis! We loved you, Keswick.

Yelp
The golf course is amazing! player friendly Resort course makes for an enjoyable round. We teed off at 8:20. No one in front and no one behind us all day on a Saturday in September! It was like playing on our own private course. Spa appts are tough to come by. No hot tub.

Yelp
My husband and I left the weekend very unimpressed. This is an extremely expensive place and as such, expectations were high. I expected the level of service/detail/care you receive at a Four Seasons and no such was here. The goods: -It's beautiful - the rooms and building as well as the grounds and landscaping are immaculate -Remote but only 20 minutes from Charlottesville -Free Parking -Quiet Rooms -On-site Spa and Dining -Electric vehicle charging for free Cons: -Low staff volume (not enough people) -No tea/coffee in room -Lack of consistency -Level of service There was no one there to help us with bags when we arrived so the front desk staff were assisting and I, at 9 months pregnant, was dragging our bags into the lobby so as not to leave them outside on the sidewalk. Our room was given away - we arrived around 4:30pm and we didn't have a top floor any longer. My husband was pissed bc he had called the day before to confirm and make sure they knew it was my 40th birthday trip (and I'm pregnant). We walked the grounds a bit and they are stunning - gorgeous landscaping, pretty spa, tennis area, pool and restaurant and fitness center. The pro shop is nice but small. At no point did they put anything in my room to celebrate my 40th birthday. At the Four Seasons (I've celebrated 4 or 5 birthdays with them) they always put some sort of chocolate cake or b-day cake and a note. They put a generic card - but nothing else. A HUGE pet peeve was we had this gorgeous patio/balcony and there is no coffee/tea in the room at all. If you want it, you have to order it to be delivered and pay for it. First of all, rooms are already close to $1000 a night at the base level - I paid for the coffee/tea so give it over and put a nice nespresso or something in the room. What if I don't want to get fully dressed to go into the lobby at 8am and would rather enjoy a tea on my balcony to wake up? Can't believe it. Annoying and not at all to the level we expected. Our first night at turndown they left us these delicious cookies in the room - the second night - nothing at all, not even water. I called to ask and they said, "Well I guess tonight isn't a cookie night". What?! It sets an expectation. My favorite Inn in Sonoma leaves cookies and milk EVERY night. If you set an expectation like that, follow through. The day we were leaving I went to the spa to try to buy a shirt I liked and they couldn't find another in the right size, instead of helping me, left me to wait while they gave four other ladies who showed up after me a tour although I said I was in a hurry as we had a breakfast reservation. I ended up leaving without it. Disappointing. Overall, it was pretty, but felt severely overpriced. This is more likely a $450 a night room type place. The staff aren't trained to the level I'd expect for this price to offer the service we expected. I'd come back for dinner - but not to stay at these prices.

Yelp
Overall Keswick Hall is a beautiful hotel and an amazing place to stay. I will say check-in left a lot to be desired, I mentioned it was my first time visiting and I was told nothing about the grounds or amenities available. There was a doorman at the front, I believe his name was William who was super friendly and was able to tell us more about the property after check-in. The pool is insanely gorgeous. The female bartender at the pool was literally rude and acted like you were bothering her by ordering a drink. At a hotel of this level, usually the service is very friendly, so that was unexpected. On Sunday at the pool they also brought in a DJ; I'm going to sound like an old person saying this, but the music was far too loud. The crowd was mostly couples, mother daughter duos, and small friend groups. There were certainly more books and kindle at that pool than shots. I feel like the DJ brought a party vibe that no one at the pool really wanted. Beyond the blaring music the pool itself is a dream, love the infinity edge all around and the waterfall. Our room was beautiful and we very much appreciated the upgrade. The closet was huge, loved the bathroom, and we enjoyed the sitting area. The beds were super comfortable. We loved their library bar and the food at the pool was quite tasty. Marigold the onsite restaurant was beautiful as well. I visited the spa and everyone was extremely friendly there. The shower/sauna area was nice and the relaxation area was exactly what you would expect. Loved the big windows in the back with the loungers. You can tell they think of every landscaping/design detail at this hotel. I'd just say the service was a little lacking. I would still certainly stay here again when visiting Charlottesville!

Yelp
Such a beautiful hotel and the perfect spot for a luxurious Charlottesville getaway! My husband and I visited for our "minimoon" after our wedding, and were so grateful for all the beautiful views and relaxing vibes. Keswick was even kind enough to give us a complimentary room upgrade when they learned we got married the day before check-in. The entire property is built around the sprawling golf course, which means gorgeous views from all of the rooms, common areas, restaurant, etc. The adults-only infinity pool overlooking the property is stunning, and the lovely food/bar menu at the pool bar makes posting up there all day almost too easy. The spa is also beautiful, it has giant floor to ceiling windows looking out into the woods that will relax you before you even get into any treatments. We also had one meal at the restaurant on property, Marigold, and it certainly lived up to the hype as well. The hotel room itself had all the nice touches and little luxuries you expect from a hotel of this caliber, and was really clean and comfortable. This probably won't come as a surprise given that this is a high-end hotel, but everything at Keswick from the spa treatments to the sunscreen in the gift shop is expensive. However, the hotel is a destination in itself and has everything you need, so if you're looking for luxury in a great Charlottesville location this is the place to be. I'm not sure we would ever stay here if it wasn't such a special occasion - but we had such a great time that we even stayed one more night than we planned! Highly recommend.

Yelp
90% appeal of this resort is the horizon pool. It's been the reason for our 2 hour drive. The overpriced rooms at $1500 a pop could be justified because of the view, and we have come here many time with my kids 6 and 9 years old. However today as we walk up they inform us that it's adult only and the kids pool is by the tennis courts. This was not clear as i called yesterday for availability otherwise we would be going to INN at perrys cabin. It's always been on the website but just enforced now because of the new facility was just built. Unfortunately it's not worth the stay any more as i hear babies screaming and the view is not even close to being spectacular. Good luck trying to fill the rooms‌. PS front desk manager learn some customer up to par of 5 star charges.

Yelp
Beautiful and great service! The restaurant is high end and classy - I would recommend it for a big event or romantic dinner. It is set up with dimmer lighting and a great ambience. The plates can be smaller so make sure to ask ahead of time. Oh, and the pool is just gorgeous! The new renovation has been great!

Yelp
What a lovely October stay we had a Keswick Hall!!  We had not been back since the major, pre covid, renovation and were pleasantly surprised by the quality and beauty of the new Keswick campus.  Our trip was short, so we didn't get to go to the spa, but we did enjoy a rare October day of sunshine at the glorious pool.  It was a highlight of our stay because it was so unexpected.  The sheer beauty of the pool and its surroundings transports you. Our room on the 5th floor was beautiful and immaculate. The only small things that could have made it slightly better would be an exhaust fan in the WC, more hooks in the Bathroom for wet towels, robes, etc, and a better remote for the TV. But again, these were small things and certainly didn't detract from the beauty and comfort of the room.  Beautiful linens, Frete robes, smart room design, and live orchids made the room a sanctuary.  The bath lotions, shampoo, and soaps were divine! The bathroom was huge and the shower was spa level. The landscaping around the campus is exquisite as the plantings were lush,  abundant, colorful and well maintained. Bravo to the grounds super. The staff was well trained, polite and attentive. And while the staff overall seemed quite young, they were consistently friendly cheery and helpful. If we had to give any constructive criticism,  there were a few things we would upgrade or change, but again, these were mostly minor inconveniences ... 1. Put coffee makers in the rooms. Please, we beg of you! The only coffee available in the building was offered in the lobby and that service ended at 7 AM. (7 AM???)  We could walk over to the restaurant (in a separate building), but sometimes you just need a starter cup before you emerge from the comfort of your cocoon. Again, one could order coffee from room service, but it would be nice to have a warm cup before you even talk to the outside world.  If you like a fresh cup first thing in the morning, take your own 1 cup coffee maker for your room. You're welcome. 2. Build a canopy or covered walkway from the main hotel to the restaurant. It poured the night of our special dinner and everyone was scurrying for umbrellas. The walkways are beautiful but could use some sort of covered pergola connecting the buildings. 3. Marigold restaurant ... we were somewhat surprised at the level of pounding music when we arrived for dinner. It was so loud it was distracting. Now I get it. Most if not all of the people who work in the restaurant are probably under 30. And when we were that age, we loved loud music too. But when you're dropping $300+ for a nice dinner, some soft sexy jazz would be more fitting.  We asked to be seated in the quietest area of the restaurant, so they seated us outside, which was better for noise reduction, but we were sort of on the fringe of things.  Also, we arrived at Marigold 30 minutes early so we could sit at the bar and get a drink. Amidst the loud music and the influx of what seemed to be local residents into the bar, we could not catch either of the bartenders eye. It was like a scene out of "Cocktail" as they rushed around shaking elixirs. We tried to go back to the smaller bar in the hotel, but there must have been an event because there was a large group of people there too.  Once again, no acknowledgement from the bartender. It was as if we were invisible.  Alas, we gave up on a sexy pre-dinner martini and headed back to Marigold when our table was ready.  The food was good but not amazing. It was comparable to fare at a nice steak house in any big city. Nothing to complain about and we enjoyed an app, salads, lobster and steak. Actually the fall salad was the best course, we both agreed.  4. Build a canopy over the main entrance to the hotel. It was pouring when we left and had to load up the car in the pouring rain. We, our bags,  and our car interior were soaked.  Some sort of covering to drive under at the front door would be invaluable during inclement weather. All that said, it is a lovely luxury experience.  We will definitely come back again and stay for a longer visit so we can enjoy the spa.

Yelp
That was our NYE destination. The room overlooked the golf course, mountains and outdoor heated pool. The positive - renovated, a good lighting system in large hotel rooms, great showers and friendly employees. This is a bit of a choppy resort: its spa building is on one side of the hotel, the pool requires you to exit hotel building but it is away from the club building with changing rooms (separate saunas), the only restaurant is a building between the pool and the club. We hated soft pillows and old fashioned mattress because my body ached the next day! New Year Eve dinner included a pre fix dinner menu. We got sucked into that (the whole table had to commit to that menu) plus wine parring. Most wines were sweet and meal in general uneventful, so I guess we paid for being there for the holiday. Caviar was paired with warm egg york that killed caviar flavor in a very sad way (what a waste!). We did have a generous shavings of truffles on our other dish and a cute deconstructed Pavlova. We were not provided either a map of the resort or information of amenities (free bikes, free golf carts, free gym classes are all for only those in a know!). Basically, they charge you, smile and abandon.

Yelp
Absolutely loved loved loved our stay here! What immaculate service, so professional and inviting. Beautiful hotel with gorgeous views. Our suite was perfection! Large and modern and allow and welcome pets! We will return with our frenchies!! The pool is heated year round and also has golf course, marigold restaurant is walking distance and has spa and tennis courts. Bar makes tasty drinks and lots of cozy enclaves for quiet romantic spot and ambience. The staff here is wonderful- can't wait to return!

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Spend your money anywhere else but here. My husband and I travel all over the country and stay in places more upscale than this worthless place. We needed to cancel or move our reservation to a much much later date and we would pay a transfer fee as my husbands mother is ill and in critical condition. First, god help you if you need to get ahold of the manager. You have to make many unsuccessful attempts to get a call back and that never comes. Instead you get a generic email stating we're sorry to hear about your circumstances but we have a 2 week cancellation / modification policy. But, towards the end of the email they state we can put the reservation in someone else's name. "WTF" isn't that a modification.... And FYI we couldn't transfer the reservation because they are also at the hospital!!! So please "Everyone " before you book a reservation here, just know they are one of the "FEW" places that if you have a parent in critical condition they stick to their 2 week policy. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! NO REFUNDS and NO MODIFICATIONS. But then offer a modification that can't be done. SMH You Keswick Hall have lost my business, my respect and I hope people read this and reconsider booking a reservation with you. Extremely disappointing!!!

Dawn P.

Yelp
There billing department is a complete disaster, what should have been a nice trip turned into five call for billing. This was a prepaid gift that included spa and breakfast but they tried to bill us for both items. While the place is lovely and it was one of the nice rooms, the accounting headaches make it not worth going here.

Melissa H.

Yelp
Okay this is IMPORTANT. I feel so lucky I got to stay at this beautiful property. Keswick Hall has an instant advantage by being situated in the beautiful blue ridge mountains, with incredible views as far as the way can see. Even the parking lot looks cute thanks to the natural beauty around! There are amenities out the ass: $400 bath robes in the room, marble URRYWHERE, waterworks fixtures, and perhaps my personal favorite, the under mount automatic lights at the foot of the bed for those middle of the night bathroom trips. HOWMSTEVER, the bed. Like, I can not. I stayed two nights and after "waking" the first night (I use the term loosely, as I never really slept for more than 30-minutes at a time, and I couldn't even blame wine since I didn't have any), my body was a wreck. My neck and back were suddenly in completely different hemispheres, and I was obviously exhausted. So I peeled back the sheets to see what kind of prison bed I was issued. Turns out, the mattresses are also luxury...something called DUX (or duxiana, depending on what you google), a ridiculously overpriced and horrible made Swedish brand, with beds retailing upwards of $7,000. Look, for a room that costs as much a night as my first DC studio apartment, I would expect nothing less than a mattress that costs as much as a crappy Toyota. But it ought not make me feel like I got hit by a crappy Toyota. A Mercedes, maybe. My stay was otherwise lovely - the staff is a little green, but the effort is there (though night one I called for silverware for my meal that was never brought up and since I'm an animal, I ate with my hands. It's fine.); housekeeping was speedy and thorough; and the property and renovation is next level. But.these.got.damn.beds. Here's the thing: I don't think the beds will change either. At least at the consumer level, DUX doesn't take returns on several mattresses in their lineup. Plus, FOR SOME REASON THAT PROBABLY ONLY THE DEVIL HIMSELF CAN EXPLAIN BECAUSE SURELY HE IS THE ONE DUX MADE A DEAL WITH FOR THIS ACCOLADE, this is considered a premier "luxury" bed. If sleeping on an abandoned mattress under a bridge is your idea of luxury, then you're gonna love it! So should you book a stay for a small fortune? Maybe. It would be an overwhelmingly easy yes if the bed was even slightly more comfortable (I'm talking a simple feather bed topper). But if a VERY hard mattress is not your thing, beware. As the mother of a 12-month-old indulging in a "birthing day" gift to myself after a year of sleep deprivation, this was a major disappointment. I managed to sleep slightly better the second night, but I'm unsure if that's because of the pillow input under my knees or the sheer exhaustion took over. Anyway, Marigold is great.

Yelp
As locals  to Charlottesville, each year for the past several years we have stayed at Keswick multiple times. We were excited to stay at Keswick once again recently and booked a room well in advance at a rate of $1000+.  The week before our planned stay, I attended a conference for work in downtown DC and tested positive for COVID that Wednesday evening. That Thursday morning I called Keswick to reschedule our Saturday night stay.  I was transferred to the front desk where I was told the manager was working, and for several  attempts the phone was not picked up. I eventually left a message and asked for a call back, which I did not receive.  After more attempts that evening, I was finally finally connected with someone. I explained that I did not want to cancel my reservation but move it to another night after I was no longer contagious with COVID. I added that I would happily pay more for an upgraded room, or a room at whatever peak rate was available. The person explained that she understood and would escalate to a Director to see what they can do and that she would call me back.  No one ever called me back and I received a generic email from "Reservations" saying that the room was booked at a non-refundable/non-cancellable rate . Again, I was trying to change the reservation and not cancel it.  The next day I attempted to speak to someone about the reservation again, and each time the operator said I'd have to speak to a manager who was working at the front desk. I was transferred to the front desk at least six times and was either disconnected or no one answered at all. After calling the operator again, I spoke to a very nice gentleman and explained that I'd been trying to speak with a manager to no avail. I explained again that I had COVID and didn't think I should be checking into a hotel with a highly contagious illness, and was just hoping to speak to someone about the possibility of rescheduling. He said he understood and agreed it wouldn't be wise to check in with COVID. He thought they could help me find a solution, but added that the front desk was busy with check-ins so the manager was swamped but would call me back after he relayed the message. I never heard from a manager. I tried a few more times the next morning, each time being transferred to the front desk with no one picking up or being disconnected.  My husband stepped in and started calling trying to speak to a person and ultimately was connected with the Rooms Manager, Erin. She was terse but also said she would escalate to her Director. She never got back to us. After a few hours with no contact from Erin, my husband tried to contact her to understand if she'd been able to escalate. Again, he was transferred to her at the front desk, and each time was disconnected or the phone rang with no one picking up.  Eventually the front desk told my husband that Erin had left for the day and would be back the next day at Noon.   We live 40 minutes from Keswick, so Saturday my husband drove down to speak to Erin in person since we were continuously unable to reach her by phone. Once he arrived, they said that Erin wasn't on the property and no one knew when or if she was returning that day. They gave him Erin's cell phone number and he called and texted again, explaining who he was and that he was on the property and eager to hear back from her. No response. Ultimately my husband spoke with the acting GM Kayce and she said there was nothing they could do about this on the day of check-in. My husband explained that we'd been trying to contact someone for 48+ hours but literally could not get a person to give us answers, and that he'd been pathologically ignored and dodged by Erin. Erin ultimately texted my husband at 8pm Saturday night and apologized "for the late reply" but never apologized for her rudeness, unavailability, or lack of follow through. If we had connected with a kind, courteous manager who reiterated the policy that the room could not be rescheduled I think we would return to Keswick.  Unfortunately, we were met with grossly unprofessional behavior at every step. We could not be more disappointed. The customer service at Keswick should rival that of top luxury hotels and resorts in VA and DC. Instead, management presents as ill-trained and immature.

Yelp
had a great experience here during a work lunch. their renovations are truly stunning and a great complement to the golf course and grounds. if you haven't been you simply must!

Yelp
How can I begin to describe how wonderful this establishment was. I am a "local" as it were (from Richmond) so about an hour away, came for a weekend relaxation moment, but felt like worlds away. Over hill and dale and just lovely. So well appointed. Not an inn per se but oh so much more. Incredibly well appointed. As a person who travels constantly for work, I've been to many upscale establishments, but in terms of the room and offerings... wow. So you aren't going to have a butler, but you are going to have the largest and loveliest room with every detail thought of. Truly... the most comfortable bed. The most luxurious shower. The biggest balcony with a view no less. The toiletries... on point. Need spring water? You've got it. Fireplace, an exquisite scrabble set, and honestly, one of THE best bars I've been too anywhere. Why isn't every bar like this one? The bar staff knows how to make what you want and suggests. Each drink is carefully made. They are made the way I make my food - with micro detail for the guest. Not smashed together for consumption en masse to get someone intoxicated or, alternatively, with a snooty air of "oh I know more than you, you peasant... how dare you question my crafting skills". No... it was a symphony of knowledge and ambience together, making the entire experience elevated. Just a hop skip and jump from Charlottesville and its offerings, as well as just a place to relax and unwind all on its own. Recently renovated and with much to offer. Keep doing what you are doing. If I could give it a 6 I would. Coffee bar, French chef- (owned?) restaurant on site (Marigolds - separate review to follow)... hip hip hooray!

Yelp
Beautiful resort. The star of the show was the adult infinity pool. Service was impeccable. Dinner at Marigold was delicious. Our hotel suite was luxurious... we didn't want to leave. We can't wait to return.

Yelp
Keswick Hall luxury hotel is wonderful, terrific, fantastic, fabulous, out of this world good!!!!!! It is quite expensive, but we need to treat ourselves every once and a while. It adds spice to life. The rooms are beyond lovely, the restaurant is terrific, and the heated infinity pool is oustanding, to die for. It is wonderful that Keswick Hall is dog-friendly. The hotel is perfectly situated. It is surrounded by history -- Charlottesville, Monticello, Ash Lawn-Highland, Michie Tavern, etc. As I say, Keswick is the perfect resort to visit if you want to pamper yourself and your family, immerse yourself in American history, etc. and even take your dog along. Your dog will be endlessly grateful. You can't beat that. Keswick really is wonderful, terrific, fantastic, fabulous, out of this world good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
Beautiful property!! Friendly staff .. the restaurant bar was amazing. dreamy golf course views.

Yelp
The property is lovely. The setting is stunning. Sadly, the hospitality and responsiveness to guests is lacking. While most staff are gracious and try their best to accommodate the needs of guests, they are hindered by systems, procedures, approaches - not sure which - established by the general manager - Mr. Trevenen. I sent him an email providing feedback following my two night stay - both positive and constructive - and he never even acknowledged the email. Perhaps he was not the best hire for a hotel of this caliber. I wish I understood why so many aspects of my experience were just off.

Yelp
From the moment we arrived until we departed, our group of eleven was treated to a top tier experience. Keswick is a beautiful resort with stunning views, architecture, decor, staff, dining and amenities. At every turn we were greeted with smiles, "are you enjoying yourself", "how May I help you" and "certainly, we can do that". Very few resorts compare to this quality of personal service. Our room was perfect! Bed... a dream sleep! It was easy to slumber just a tad longer surrounded by pillows you only read about. Dinners... gorgeous plating, on point service, delicious options, fabulous taste and a lovely dining pace. Every dinner item received rave reviews. The resort amenities speak for themselves. The teams servicing these amenities make the experience just a bit more special. B makes the lovely infinity pool sparkle just a bit more. Last but not least, the event planning staff assisted my husband (not a planner by day ) create the most amazing birthday experience for our guests and myself. Every moment was seamlessly executed. I'll never forget our time at Keswick. Thank you to everyone! We will be back

Yelp
My husband and I were scheduled to leave on Sunday, June 12th to spend two nights at this resort for my birthday. Unfortunately he was very sick with bronchitis and was unable to make the trip after visits to the urgent care and emergency room at the hospital. I called the day before our arrival to cancel and reschedule and was informed I had to speak with the reservation manager, Jake, and he would not be back until Monday. I was further charged another $ 500.00 so called Jake since I had not heard from him by 10:00 AM on Monday, 6-13. I was informed they could not refund the money to my credit card, already charged in advance ($ 1,271.18) , as they required a 14 day cancellation. The resort would only issue a credit for another stay for one night in the amount of $ 637.00 for one night but would not credit any refund to my credit card. Needless to say at this point I have no desire to stay at the resort in view of these circumstances. I have never in my life had such an experience when dealing with any other resorts or hotels and under such extenuating circumstances. I was really looking forward to enjoying my birthday celebration at the resort but I am now extremely upset that this is the outcome. I had planned to reschedule for July but will likely never consider this location and will pass this experience to all of my friends that recommended it to me. I am so disappointed.

Yelp
It's probably the nicest hotel in Charlottesville but the competition is very light. The cost of the hotel is much more than the room quality or hotel quality or the whole experience warrants. Staff are really nice though (that is if and when you can find any staff!) It's a great place of you want to play golf or hunt a poor fox using guns, horses and 70 dogs!! But if you want a nice clean room with no dead bugs in the window sills and with plenty of staff and room service and valet and a handicap ramp to bring your kid's stroller into the hotel without carrying it on your back - this ain't it. This is basically a large bed and breakfast. Another issue is the dogs. They are everywhere! Now I love dogs and have had dogs but I don't want dogs in a hotel. It's quite dirty. The bed covers and throw pillows that never get washed have probably had hundreds of dogs sitting on them with their bare butts! The carpets have so many stains many of which I'm positive have to be dog pee. And i would never soak in the shower knowing people probably bathe their dogs in the same tubs.

Yelp
My partner and I went to Keswick Hall for a work function, and overall, I felt it was a very nice hotel with good amenities and a very delicious breakfast. There are a bunch of these cozy-type hotels near Charlottesville, and I was looking forward to staying here. The welcome arrival was friendly and professional, and the lobby is grand in an understated way. As this is a relatively old building, It's been renovated very nicely. It's not some big resort like the Greenbrier, and I liked that about it. Our room was a bit smaller than I would've liked, but they have to work with what they're given. The alcove and minibar was somewhat of a waste of the space, but it's not like you sit in your room all day. The bathroom was large, that's for sure. There was a lot of space to place your toiletry bag and other amenities. The grounds of Keswick Hall were also very nice. It has a heated pool that was going strong even during the winter, which I definitely appreciated. We also walked around the grounds, and they're redoing the golf course, which should look nice. The club house -- which is a short walk from the main house -- had a different restaurant and pool, but it was too cold to go into the pool when we were there. I will say that the breakfast at Keswick Hall is very delicious. Overlooking the golf course, the views are great! I had the sausage and biscuits, and they were absolutely delicious; some of the best I've had. Service was professional throughout. Overall, we had a very nice time at Keswick Hall, and I would return here. While the rooms are small, it's a great little find around Charlottesville. It was close to Montpelier and downtown Charlottesville, roughly.

Yelp
Not sure what it's like to stay here. But just know that they treat their employees horribly. If you quit, they try to withhold your money and not pay you what you are owed. Extremely unorganized. Show respect for everyone that is running around there, because there is not enough people. They work employees like slaves. All the housekeepers you see working have to do everything. They one hundred percent do not care about their employees. Every single day is super stressful, because nothing is done correctly. So if you do not get what you need as a guest, do not blame the housekeepers or front desk. It's the higher ups that have nothing put together correctly. This is a very wealthy resort. But they don't want to hire more people to help. They rather have the people they already employed just do everything. If you are looking to work here, do not. Oh and the free food that we get. Once a day. Is worse than prison food. Never have I ever worked at a "luxury resort " that treats employees like this. Hopefully they turn things around and start treating their employees with respect. Because they are the ones that run things.

Yelp
I *somehow* wandered off from the last half day of the conference at which I was expected, and *somehow* and magically ended up in old world England!!!! Until reading that this very vast, expansive opulent stay was an Orient-Express property, I was completely dumbfounded when en route to Monticello and ended up here.... the signs along the quaint country roads drew me, and so did my keen sense of utter curiosity. I arrived during the late morning hours..... Keswick Hall could just as well be Keswick, England... really an authentic paradise, neslted in a wooded area, laden with very sophisticated decor and washed in a muted color scheme that bespoke dignity and money. When I ruminate over some of the prettiest estates that I've had the pleasure to tour, Keswick always, always stands out immediately. I have not visited anything like it since. So close to UVA, so close to Jefferson's beloved Monticello, close to James Madison's former estate, I would attempt a stayover here were I on vacation... even just *one* night..... to capture it all, colonial living with lots of amenities..... grounds for wandering and cozying up with tea and a book... fertilizer for awesome conversation and a nest for a head. I loved this at first sight, and love it even now, reliving my leisurely tour with the concierge's welcome permission, and trying to control the gasp and the gawk as I walked up stairs, down hallways, and into some grand, magnificent parlors. Ohh.... that rented Alero sure did me right by getting me here. a treasure trove of delight.

Yelp
What an experience! We were spending the afternoon visiting vineyards in the Charlottesville area, and upon a recommendation we stopped at the hall for the lunch buffet. From the soup to desert everything was perfect. Asking the wait staff about different items resulted in recipe and ingredient lists coming from the chef. Mario is a true gift to mankind. "It doesn't matter what you cook, as long as you cook with your heart..." Thank you Mario for that reminder, and your amazing lunch. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I've only dined here but have had great experiences every time. The staff is extremely well-versed in the meaning of customer service and everyone is a pleasure. If you need or want something, they will always do their best to accommodate. The menu at Villa Crawford is small but offers some great choices. I stick with the burger or the Croque Madame but the salads always look delicious. The truffle fries are also amazing. Keswick as a whole offers an upscale ambiance with beautiful scenery. Coming during the holidays is an extra treat due to the lovely decor and impressive gingerbread houses. Also - get dessert. It's worth it! :)

Yelp
This hotel is a joke. Where do I start. The room was horrible. This hotel needs an update immediately. The shower didn't come completely on. Therefore, the water pressure was very low. more water drained inside of the tub. The tub/shower is so tall, that as a young and short person, I had a hard time climbing into it. We had to ask for an ironing board and iron. No fridge or microwave. I understand that they want to make sure you service their restaurant, but considering it is a secluded place, it would be an added benefit. The restaurant was over priced. The server had to come back after a half and hour of ordering to ask my fiance what he ordered. This is after he clearly wrote it down. I didn't receive what I ordered and wasn't offered my original order either. I was given an order of so called filet mignon, which consisted of 3 thin sliced pieces and a penny sized goose liver for $44.00. Oh and it didn't come with any side dishes. My fiance had actually ordered this and he received the same thing. I informed the server of this mistake and he just replied, "I'm sorry". The manager was making his way to other tables, but never even acknowledged us, even after the server told him he made a big mistake. I felt a little nauseous after eating the appetizer, oysters. After eating the meal I didn't order, since the server didn't offer to bring the New York Strip steak and fritters I ordered, I really got sick at the stomach. I had to go to a pharmacy and get something for vomiting and the several bathroom trips I made. I was so hungry after a $55 bill. My fiance had to buy fast food, because he was so hungry after a $65 bill. I had to ask the server to not charge me for the meal I received, so he charged me for the meal I didn't receive. I also filled out one of those service cards, but I guess it was thrown away, I never received a call or an email. Don't waste your time or money. I can't see why this is a 5 star resort.

Yelp
Last Saturday evening my wife and I and 10 of our closes friends had the night of our life at Treble Wine Cellar located within Keswick Hall. It is an amazing space! We had high expectations for the evening. We had all flown in from South Florida to celebrate my wife's birthday and this evening was the weekends final event. With such high expectations their easily could have been a let down. However, the team at Keswick exceed all expectations. We had a phenomenal evening. It stated with drinks at Villa Crawford and didn't end until we finished a four course Fossett prepared meal. Everything was perfect. Professional service. Fantastic wine. Candlelit room. And a once in a lifetime meal. If your have something to celebrate with a small group, there is no better venue.

Yelp
This is destined to be one of my local go-to resorts. My partner and I were able to stay in one of Keswick Halls king rooms; we were the first guests during their grand reopening. The king room is advertised as the lowest tier room at the property during booking, but the size of the room is HUGE, and offers nothing but premium amenities. Our bedroom view was central to the golf course and morning sunrises were mesmerizing as the fog that slowly crept up and evaporated. The staff was extremely attentive to all of our needs during the stay, hand over foot (maybe because of the grand opening). The new infinity pool was huge and refreshing it offered a full bar, and complementary buckets of premium alkaline water. We dined at Marigold's the on-property restaurant (and only restaurant within 15 minutes). Both Danny (US Director of Operations for the Restaurant Group) and Katrina (General Manager of the site) were extremely attentive and welcomed our feedback, quickly correcting any issues with EACH of our meals. Danny even took time out of his day to teach me how to play the on-site French game Pétanque. The course is great and staff are extremely friendly, the range and range balls are complementary for guests. The only con's I can think of are: the lack of Spa, the construction of additional wings (housing the last ~46 rooms), new gym, and golf pro shop. I was told the entire Keswick project would be complete Fall 2022, which is when I would most likely return to attain the full experience.

Yelp
I recently went here on a business trip with my boyfriend. I can honestly say it is a beautiful place that manages to be quaint, extravagant and comfortable all at the same time. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms but still had plenty of room to lounge and relax, everything was clean and had a beautiful antique/cottage feel which I absolutely loved! The grounds were meticulously maintained, staff was all very welcoming and friendly, food at the restaurant was delicious! Also, during the cocktail reception around 9PM, my boyfriend teased me for ordering a bloody mary, the bartender was friendly, absolutely happy to accommodate my drink request at a strange hour and the ambience was charming and sophisticated. The spa was wonderful and made for a very relaxing experience. I ended up getting the 1 hour deep tissue followed by the reflexology. I am pretty sure I fell asleep on the amaaaaazing heated bed that they have you lay on. I felt like a cat on a windowsill, so cozy! Also, before I went to the spa, a couple of the other business spouses and I decided to grab lunch. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed in between breakfast and lunch but a gentleman was SO kind to go out of his way to get us beautiful cappuccinos, a delicious pastry basket and some fresh fruit. I felt so bad that we were interrupting their quiet time between meals but he was such a sweetheart to let us sit and chat and eat! I needed that little recharge too! All in all a beautiful place with the most stunning antiques throughout done in a classy way, set in the rolling hills and horse farms of Charlottesville. I have attached pictures but there are more at the link below if you want to see the rooms etc! http://sunnydaysandotherthings.blogspot.com/2013/11/keswick-retreat.html

Yelp
Beautiful property. Just stopped by for a cocktail. Sat in the outside terrace near the pool overlooking the golf course. Amazing views extremely peaceful and quite. Ordered their tequila cocktail and their bread pudding. Both were very good. Service was exactly what you expect when you walk into this place. This is a wonderful property and I can only imagine staying at the hotel would be amazing.

Yelp
This was definitely a hidden gem! We started our day with a tour at Monticello and decided to make reservations at Keswick based on the reviews...it was well worth all the hype! We were given a beautiful room with a huge balcony overlooking the infinity pool and golf course. The overall feel was rich and estately while still feeling succinct and comfortable to me the true essence of a high quality ambiance. We've stayed at many nice hotels, the Ritz, World Resorts, Omni... We had drinks at the Villa Crawford and divulged in their truffle and parmesean fries, absolute deliciousness for those foodies...the service was very good and the staff were always very helpful. This will definitely be a return place for us...

Yelp
We spent an entire weekend here and I was continuously underwhelmed at best and disappointed at worst. This is a sister hotel of the Jefferson in Richmond, which is one of my favorite hotels in the world, so I was expecting great things. The primary issue seems to be that no one who works here is in the hospitality industry -- the staff is mainly comprised of college-aged students who clearly have not been given proper training. A few examples: No one ever offered to help us with our bags. We ordered room service for breakfast one morning and the woman forgot the cream and went back to the kitchen, taking 15 minutes to come back so by the time she arrived our coffee was cold, but never offered to bring us new coffee. That wouldn't have been so egregious but the exact same thing happened the next day! We had brunch and dinner in the restaurant and both times I was constantly asking someone to fill my water glass or coffee -- no one ever did it without asking which I think is a bit careless for such an expensive restaurant. I will say that the sommelier was excellent and one of the only people we encountered all weekend that represented Keswick well! We also had massages at the spa, which were pretty mediocre. The most annoying thing that I am still very mad about though is the fact that we left two chargers in the room -- a cell phone charger plugged in by the desk, and a macbook charger plugged in under the coffee maker. It was not a question of whether or not we left them, I knew exactly where I left them when I got home and called the next day with their location and our room number. I was told that they were "never turned in" and never got them back. So basically, the staff took them. It cost me $80 to replace the macbook charger, and it was just so frustrating and so unexpected for what is supposed to be a "nice" hotel. I would definitely recommend anyone thinking about staying here stay at the Boars Head instead -- I have stayed there once before and it definitely had a much more professional and welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
A really special and stunning resort. We loved the adults-only, salt water infinity pool with the edge looking over the spectacular Pete Dye designed golf course. Our room was lovely, comfortable and large. The service was outstanding, as one would expect from a place such as this. Dinner at Fossett's was disappointing--including under seasoned and overcooked meat--but that won't lower the overall score because it was really a wonderful visit.

Yelp
Shockingly amateur and unbelievably disappointing. This review is in reference to my experience at Keswick Hall this past summer. We booked two nights in a suite for my wedding weekend. Although I have lived in NYC, LA, and Washington, DC for my entire adult life, I grew up in Charlottesville. We checked in late on a Saturday evening following my wedding reception. The room was traditional yet well appointed and attractive. We were unpleasantly and unexpectedly awakened before 8:00 am the next morning by major demolition on the golf course which our suite overlooked. Really? At $800/night and absolutely no acknowledgment of the weekend construction plans by Reservations? We went down by the pool for the afternoon. A staff member asked us how our stay was going. When I acknowledged the early morning disruption, he made a rude and sarcastic reply that left my husband and I looking at each other in confusion. Later that afternoon, we decided to open a wonderful bottle of Krug that we had received as a gift and enjoy the sundown on the hotel's veranda. I entered the small bar area off of the pool area to enquire whether we were allowed to use glass stemware poolside. Two inebriated patrons, a washed up looking, middle aged woman and her drunken, baseball cap-toting boyfriend, sized me up. My husband joined me and as we proceeded towards a side door, the woman put out her arm and said, "Nope, you need a passport to pass through." Huh? I was in such a good headspace and still elated from my wedding that I didn't initial realize that she was making a racial slur. Let me qualify -- one half of my family arrived in the US in the 1600s and the other half from the Middle East in 1900. Clearly, she was implying that I was an "illegal immigrant" (since she was probably not well versed in World Geography and certain elements of Charlottesville society aren't particularly inclusive, I presume she thought I was Hispanic). We brushed by her and I barely contained my contempt. Once I was on the terrace, I became furious over her self appointed, racist role in determining who can patronize a restaurant. I came back to the bar to get some napkins and was immediately addressed by the same drunken couple. The woman belted towards me, "Habla espanol?" At first, I didn't realize she was addressing me. She repeated her question in an even more comedic, poorly pronounced manner. Every patron in the tiny bar AS WELL as the THREE Keswick Hall staff members, looked at me in uncomfortable silence. I replied that maybe someone needs to cut off her alcohol. The bartenders, who heard the entire conversation, DID NOTHING. After my husband berated a server for their appalling lack of proactive behavior -- ejecting the drunken couple would have been the most appropriate course of action -- we got a weak apology from the main bartender. The next day, we related the story to the concierge, who was truly appalled and very apologetic. At some point, she told the general manager of the hotel about the previous day's activities. He called us in our room and in the most pathetic, "Ah shucks!"/Virginia good ol' boy manner, offered to buy us a round of drinks at the pool? Really? I think I will stick with my Krug. No follow up. No letter of apology. I have been a Food & Beverage Director at a major NYC hotel. I have managed 5-Star restaurants. THE SERVICE STANDARDS AT THIS RELAIS & CHATEAUX PROPERTY ARE APPALLING. Beautiful setting but if you plan on spending that sort of money on a room, head to somewhere that has professional standards.

Yelp
After spending 4 nights at Keswick Hall this past week, I can honestly say that it's a very relaxing place to visit, but they need a little more consistency in their service and amenities for the price they are charging and before they get 5 stars for me... Keswick is incredibly picturesque, and from the hotel you can look out over the rolling hills of the golf course and its truly amazing. They have a lovely infinity pool with comfy rattan chairs all around- it too overlooks the gorgeous scenery... it's a great location to get some sun, and since it's next to the bar, you can get a drink or some snacks whenever you want. They also have a lovely library and some little gardens tucked away- it's a great hotel to go poking around in because it's a renovated mansion- plenty of little nooks and items to explore. And I have to say that my room was incredibly luxurious. It was on the third floor, with a huge plush bed, soaker tub for two, and just about every amenity I could want- fresh orchids in my room each day, turn down service each night, and even fresh water and ice in the room twice a day. Superb. When I arrived at the hotel instead of a front desk they have smaller concierge-like desks with attendants to check guests in, and attendants to open doors and carry luggage. Everyone was incredibly accommodating, and the service quality was top . And that is why I was SO CONFUSED when that same evening I went to dinner with a group of fellow guests and had a terrible service experience. Some of the people in my party were "under-dressed" by the dining room's standards, so the manager made us wait for a half hour after our reservation, and then told us she'd bring us in two at a time so as not to cause a disturbance. So you can imagine our surprise to go into the dining room and find guests with their dogs and small children in the room! REALLY? Are flip flops more disruptive than HUGE SHAGGY DOGS and BABIES IN HUGE STROLLERS? You have to be kidding me. And then, to add insult to injury, our dinner took HOURS. I've never had such slow kitchen service. We ordered appetizers, entrees and dessert and it took us 3 hours from the time they finally sat us until we could leave. I had the tenderloin, which was good. Some of my friends got risotto or scallops- but the portions were so small! We left late at night, hungry and disgruntled. Other meals later in the week were slightly better, but the service for the food was not that great. On the last day we ordered some boxed lunches and were told we could only order 3 kinds- even though there were 12 of us and we all wanted different things! I can't imagine why we'd have to be limited to 3 kinds- we could have easily walked upstairs and eaten at the bar, and they would have served us any kind of sandwich we wanted... so why would ordering in advance be different? It seems very rude to me. And finally, Keswick has an insect problem. We had conferences all week in two conference rooms, and they were infested with flies. We complained multiple times (The doors were closed all week, so it's not like we were letting them in or anything- they came in through the fireplace!) but the staff just gave us fly swatters. Not even fly paper or Raid. It was awful. I killed at least 6 flies, and most of the other guests at the event killed about the same number. Its hard to eat when flies are crawling on your food, and it's even hard to sit and listen when flies are buzzing near your head. Makes you wonder about the standards of cleanliness. So overall, I think Keswick should be a five star place to stay, but based on what I saw they need to invest in better service in their dining room and an exterminator.

Yelp
Talk about gorgeous! If you're looking for an oasis at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains, this is it. I haven't stayed at Keswick overnight, although it's on my "must-dos", but I recently visited for an afternoon. I knew this place was gorgeous from the get-go (it's a sister property of The Jefferson, after all), but I was floored by how amazing it is in person. It boasts three pools, one of which is an infinity pool and another that's indoor/outdoor, a golf course, a spa, two restaurants, tennis courts, and a whole host of other amenities. Exquisiteness does come at a price, so prepare to pay a pretty penny for a weekend stay. In my book, this is definitely a special occasion destination, and one that I happen to think would be totally worth it for an anniversary or special celebration. I've been planting the seed with my fiancé for a while that we must head here for a weekend getaway some point in the (hopefully not too distant) future. One step onto the property and you truly feel all your troubles melt away. At least, that's how I felt when I finally visited, and I look forward to replicating that feeling again.

Yelp
A wonderfully delivered best man speech, a day filled with scotch, wine, delectable food, and a room filled with love and happiness retired me to my room. My friend stopped by to wait for AAA to jump start his car. He moved the colonial chair close to the window. We chatted and then he spied flashing headlights. He left and I collapsed into a fluff of comfort. I awoke to the chirps, deflected rays, and a pressurized bladder. I stumbled to the bathroom and as I returned I noticed the chair facing me and quite a distance from the window. I laid down and felt odd. Wasn't the chair facing the balcony last night? I was not alone. It was not a malicious feeling, and the realization jolted me awake. I laid there, feeble in my attempts to return to lala land. It felt like a woman, and she seemed to beckon me. Towards what? I finally sat up and put my swim trunks on. I bundled up and walked down to the to the huge, outdoor, heated pool. The morning was still trying to awaken, the birds itched it forward. A deep mist rose above the pool. I surrendered and disintegrated into the mist. I resurfaced at the deep end of the pool; waves tumbled over the cliff and into a overflow below me. The pool overlooked the rolling hills that were uniformed into a golf course. Trees attempted to hide the not so subtle sun. The rays peeked over the trees and lit up the mist. An orchestra of birds hypnotized the sun to dance above the trees and the pool wrapped me in a womb. It was the pinnacle of being, a miracle of nature, and a celebration of the beginning of all. I was not in nirvana, rather it was all around me. Listen to the signs, and she will guide you.

Yelp
Outstanding service and amazing attention to detail. The views at the hall are fantastic and the people are warm and inviting. When you enter the area you feel as if you are intruding upon an exclusive neighborhood, but once you arrive at the hall, you feel like a welcomed guest. They have several activities available but relaxation is everywhere.

We had a wonderful visit to Keswick Hall over the Memorial Day weekend. The accommodation is comfortable and delightful. The gardens and the pool are lovely. The food is great in both be Fosset Restaurant and the more casual al fresco dining at the balcony by the bar. Most importantly, all the staff members we met with were courteous, friendly, and helpful. Our stay could not have been better.

Yelp
been here for a couple days with my boyfriend. The grounds are beautiful and the people are kind but the service is not good. It seems as if they just hired a bunch of new people. Every restaurant takes forever to bring you food. Employees don't know the answers to simple questions (example: how far away is the Univ of Virginia) Tonight we we ordered a drink and cheese plate from the bar. An hour later they informed us that they didn't have cheese. Every restaurant you go to in the hotel takes about an hour and fifteen minutes until you get your food. The other reviews sound great, maybe we just came at a bad time when the hotel was severely understaffed

Yelp
Lovely place. The room we stayed in was cozy and luxurious, the grounds are breathtaking. It's good, sometimes, to be reminded of the beauty that exists in the world. This happens here. We were here for a charity event, and all I have to say is: bacon wrapped date stuffed with an almond (not a peanut, lol) I am not ashamed to tell you that I spent a good portion of the evening tracking these bad boys down.

Yelp
To whom it may concern, I am writing to you mostly out of selfishness. I need to get this off of my chest, as it has genuinely put a damper on what I expect from not only my wedding plans, but the "elite" in the business. Marriage is a beautiful thing. Two people give themselves up to be with one another as a promise for eternity. My fiance and I went into this extremely hopeful. As new residents to Charlottesville, and plenty of money in the bank, we decided to begin our venue hunt with Keswick. Your reputation, as well as your marketing materials, precede you. Disappointed could not be more ill equipped of a term for our experience with your contact Adam. Upon arrival we were greeted graciously by everyone around us- great start, right? The land was gorgeous, the people were stellar. We were informed that Mr. Adam was on a conference call as we entered, and that he should be with us shortly. "Shortly" turned to twenty minutes. Twenty turned to thirty. Thirty turned to forty five. A great start for a couple preparing to spend upwards of $40,000 with your establishment. He finally arrives, with barely fifty words to say, and has the nerve to leave for a more important matter in less than ten minutes. Awesome. I genuinely don't have more of a complaint. He was gone. We came in prepared to spend a Mercedes, and left before we were able to ask a single question..... after we were made to wait for nearly an hour in the middle of a Saturday. It's without saying that you will not entertain our business, and I apologize that this letter could not be more upbeat. But you hurt us, and our commitment to each other. We were enthusiastic to learn from the best and pretty hopeful that we had found our place. Thanks for setting the tone- I really hope the rest of the industry is less like you. I could not be more eager to severe this relationship. - Shane Konowal

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel. We were in Charlottesville for a funeral, and since I was overseas during Valentine's Day, decided to make a date out of it and stay here. Our hotel suite was gorgeous, very classy, I felt like I was in a fancy magazine room. Huge bed with beautiful decor, large bathroom with large bathtub and very nice complimentary bath products. Very high quality. In addition to our room, the grounds in general were gorgeous, the giant house we were in we took maybe around an hour exploring it was so huge. Lots of rooms with pool tables and lounge areas and really just a gorgeous space to explore. Just down the hill from the giant main building was a smaller one with a pool and a nice bar. One downside to our stay here involved the bathtub. Don't want to go into too much detail, but the water was SCALDING, literally you could not turn the temperature down to a reasonable human level. We tried. We thought about complaining but we were only there one night and didn't want to get into it. Attempting to use the bathtub was absolute misery. In all, the boiling water coming from the bathtub faucet doesn't ruin the general beautiful atmosphere and general amazingness of staying here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. Very classy.

Yelp
I'd recommend coming Spring - early Fall to take advantage of their pool and walking the grounds. The rooms are on the smaller side which is to be expected since it was originally a private home. The hotel has that cozy feel to it as do the rooms. The downstairs is open and encourages people to roam and mingle. The night time turn down service is lovely and overall everyone is extremely friendly here. I'd recommend this hotel for people out of the area who are looking for a beautiful place to stay while exploring the area. While everything was pretty, I just don't know if I'd personally stay again considering I'm somewhat in the area. There could be updating of some small things: Hairdryers - very out dated White noise machine (would be a great option to help with the noise from downstairs as you can hear the chatter if you're in a room close to the stairs)

Yelp
It was a HOLIDAY WEEKEND [rainy 3 days, to add to the fun] Oh, and, my 46 TH birthday weekend. This is a wonderful property; the employees are amazing, and well versed The below is only the view I gave the management team. Their response is why I give them a 5, oh yea, and, the birthday present they sent to my room. You can clearly see how many couples were there for the weekend, many were having massages. There are ways to create interaction, and a fun experience. Minnie 9 hole tournament for couples, round robin tennis, even create winery outings. If you have similar events, we were never informed. It seemed that guests could not play in the member golf outing; there should be a slight inclusion in this process. Just because we don't have a membership, guess what? This would help sell those memberships. That inclusion might have swayed us to move our Farmington Membership to Keswick. Finally, your event team needs to work harder with managing the wedding guests; keep them away from the other patrons which are repeat. They might be a one hit wonder, and may never come again. (the younger wild kids, of course) Calling customers and upgrading them or enticing them with special incentives, especially if they have been coming for years and have a special room, treat them as such. Here are my final thoughts; Sales, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Dining, and Event Planning do not work together to create a cohesive experience. While the property is a nice throw back in time, and Mr. Goodwin is working to create change, there needs to be teamwork. This does not mean that the employees aren't pleasant, they are amazing. However, your guest's "BRAND" experience needs to be your number 1 priority. Trying to sell me on other properties at the end of a survey email is an after thought. The front-desk should include this in a nice piece of informative collateral from the beginning, guests have downtime and it's the perfect space for soft selling. All of Bill Goodwin's properties have tasteful elegance, remember that, because The Greenbrier is losing it and The Homestead is falling apart.

Yelp
We came here for a quick anniversary getaway. Great staff and service, beautiful grounds, and overall great atmosphere. I loved the cookies each night with turndown service, archery was fun, and great paths for bike riding or running. Only 20 min drive to historic Charlottesville. Would stay again.

Yelp
The rooms are small but well appointed...I supposed 'cozy' could be a more apt description. Our room had a small balcony with table which we had breakfast on. The views are wonderful and the various rooms in the 'villa' are interesting to meader through. The bathroom was small but did have a loverly big tub that I felt compelled to sit down in, even as I showered! Children that I saw there seemed very well behaved in comparison to other resorts similar to this, and there was a refreshing naturalness of other guests.
