Kettlemans - Review - Montreal - The Infatuation

"If you’re downtown for a game or a concert, you couldn't miss the 24-hour bright lights at Kettlemans if you tried. Located right next to the Bell Centre and open all day, every day, this large cafe has bagel sandwiches, salads, and a huge range of schmears, including dairy-free, dill pickle, and blueberry. They also have cheese bagels (a sweet, horseshoe-shaped cheese-filled pastry) and other treats, too. Have a seat inside before or after the show, or take your haul to the game. Kettlemans is headquartered in Ottawa and has spots across Toronto, but this location is its first in Québec—a fitting homecoming for its Montreal-born founder." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Given we have already visited a number of other locations in Ontario, we decided to give this location a try while in Montreal. And it didn’t disappoint! Besides the obvious delicious bagels, this time we were impressed with the fantastic customer service. Thank you to the two bakers who made our son feel extremely special while visiting your store. After standing in front of the glass for approximately ten minutes watching the bakers make various bagels, they made him a special little bagel. It was unnecessary but very much appreciated. We will definitely be back next time in Montreal. 🇨🇦🥯

Nothing special. Drinks are expensive. Bagels are priced ok. It’s also a kind of minimart. I ordered a bagel with cheese and egg, which did not taste the best. The place was absolutely empty and it took almost 10 minutes for them to prepare it. I would not even enter the place if it’s crowded.

Google
It's a convenient bagel spot that's open 24/7. The bagel was a bit dry, but i enjoyed the pickles that came with the BLT everything bagel. It did take a while for it to be made even though I was the only customer.

This is not an easy one - BEST Bagels in Montreal BUT ... Our initial order from Kettleman's was placed via Uber Eats on Thursday, May 8th. We were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional quality of their bagels, a previously unknown entity to us. In fact, they represent the finest bagels we have encountered in Montreal, and our experience in this area is extensive. Their turkey and smoked meat bagel sandwiches are also noteworthy, featuring tender, warm meat and abundant, high-quality toppings.. Yesterday, we placed a repeat order for six bagels and several pastries. However, the packaging resulted in a reduction of our rating. While the apple fritter, brioche cinnamon roll, and apple turnovers were delicious, their presentation was unacceptable. The pastries were haphazardly placed in an insufficiently sized paper bag, with the apple turnovers at the bottom. This resulted in the turnovers being compressed and misshapen, losing their intended texture. The apple turnover, in particular, was crushed and leaking filling. While the taste remained excellent, the damaged appearance was disappointing. Despite this, I strongly recommend Kettleman's Bagels; however, I advise them to avoid stacking pastries on top of one another during packaging.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had the Chocolate Bagel, it tasted delicious, the filling was very satisfying, it was heated before serving , the price of $1.85 is very economical for students and professionals alike. The one downside the portion size was somewhat smaller then expected. Location near downtown Concordia is also a plus for students and professionals.

I love Bagels and Bagel Sandwiches, there are some great places out there and when in Montreal, you should have some bagels. This is the first time I've come to Kettlemen's Bagel in Montreal and the place is very nice and bright. I had the Kettleman's Special and the smoked meat and cheese bagel. The sandwiches were good but definitely not worth the price and the wait time. Took very very long time for the order to come in and there were only 2 people before me. Also, the price for the size of the meal is not worth it. There are much better bagel places around Montreal.

I work across the street and have tried this place a few times. Never had a good meal or decent service. First time they mixed up our orders (we were 3) and the food was very slow to come even if the place was near empty. Tasted just ok. Thinking it was just an off day, I returned a few months later and had the exact same experience. Wont be going back. To any tourists thinking this is what a Montreal bagel is... no, it isnt. Go with the traditional places to live the real experience. I had ordered the combo with tatter tots. This is what they gave me. When i went to the counter to ask why there were so little. They didnt seem to care

Yelp
We stayed in an Airbnb close to this bagel shop. The bagels were pretty good! They were open 24 hrs when we were there and it really hit the spot quite a few times. There's lots of options which suits all kinds of appetites. Of course you have bagels with all kinds of cream cheese but they also have egg sandwiches and meat based sandwiches like Rubens, Philly cheese steaks, you name it. All in all, this place was pretty good. Solid 4 stars.

Yelp
24-hour bagel shop seven minutes from the hotel? very nearly perfect. a little bit littler than the standard stateside offering is not such a bad thing and being decidedly not new yorky is fabulous. it's a bagel for crying out loud, chewy on the outside, soft on the inside and goes well with a variety of sweet or savory toppings, fillings, or otherly accompaniments at any hour of the day or night. that new yorkers feign allegiance to their bread-stuffs is reason enough to ignore them on matters of import but this is a bagel shop review!! not authentic enough for the locals? tourists? influencer? perfect! (see the above commentary on NYC) softer, harder, sweeter, smaller? and yet they're made by the truckload... so they must be doing something right. first time in was near to breakfast: her BEC on everything was spot on and tastefully done with breakfast tea, light and flavory tuna salad on herb and cheddar plus hot black coffee for me did the trick (plus a bit of cherry cheese danish to share because the portions were reasonable, not ginormous american sized) out and about all day in old montreal and then back to the hotel with a late night run for more bagelage (tuna salad on everything and nothing) and once more before heading south a day later... yea bagels!!

Yelp
So everyone's boasting about Montreal bagels and that they blow New York bagels away. So we had to check for ourselves. Kettleman's is a cute little bagel and sandwich shop. They make their bagels right there in their shop and each bagel is baked in their wood fire oven. It smells fantastic. The menu is in French but if you go to their website, you can view the English menu. You pick a sandwich and choose the bagel. We weren't feeling too adventurous so we went with turkey and ham & cheese. The sandwiches were very good but there was nothing smeared on the bagels -- no mayo or cream cheese. There may have been a little dollop of mayo on top of the lettuce. As for the bagels, they are really good and very fresh. They're thinner and smaller than New York bagels and there's a slight sweetness detected. I still prefer the fluffier NY bagels but that's a debate for another time. Overall a nice place for lunch.

Yelp
Was encouraged to try a Montreal bagel while I was in town. I'm not a big bagel fanatic, trying to keep as low carb as possible. Visited Kettlemans Bagel, and tried an onion type bagel with butter. It was on the pricey side, but so be it. The bagel is smaller and sweeter than its American cousin, but very fresh and delicious tasting. All the staff were friendly and kind. Would recommend Kettlemans for a Montreal bagel!

Yelp
Not an authentic montreal bagel but I like their bagel sandwiches! Great variety and fresh tasting every time. Perfect for lunch. I do wish they had some kind of combo options because one bagel sandwich sometimes doesn't feel like enough but there's nothing except chips to add as a side. I've only eaten inside once but it's really nice and clean, they give you a buzzer and you can pick up at the counter pretty fast.

Yelp
A new addition to the classic Montreal bagel scene, Kettlemans has several locations in Ontario and just opened up this month in the downtown area. Located steps away from the Bell Centre, on the ground floor of a condo tower, this fancy shop offers freshly made bagels, and a food menu that includes deli sandwiches, spreads, salads, and baked treats. As soon as I walked in, I was super excited to see there were 13 flavors of bagels, more than anywhere else I've seen locally. I sampled 7 of these bagels along with a philly cheesesteak bagel sandwich and bought one of their "everything" seasoned cream cheese spreads to go. All flavors and menu offerings are available online along with prices. A dozen bagels costs $13.99 and sandwich prices range from $6 to $12. There are a few breakfast options with eggs, otherwise all kinds of proteins from your classic lox, tuna, chicken, roast beef and veggie options. There's even a bagel hotdog. While you wait in line to place your order - you'll see a variety of cream cheese spreads with unique flavors such as a dill pickle, garlic, cheese, veggie, olive etc. You can watch the bagels being made on the spot - the whole restaurant and kitchen is open concept. Once you have placed an order for food, you are given a buzzer so you can walk away, take a seat and not crowd the counter area. Your pager will vibrate when the food is ready. Genius really - I've only seen this used in sit down restaurants, not in a fast food setting. In all the bagels are delicious - they are just the right amount of chewy and doughy. I've tasted classic bagels at St Viateur or Fairmount and found those to be on the harder side - almost pretzel like, and often had trouble slicing them open because they were so firm. Kettlemans bagels are the perfect texture for me. I love the style and vibe of the place, it's modern, bright and spacious. I'm taking a star away for the price of the food and portion - my $10 philly cheesesteak bagel sandwich was on the small side, the photos make it look like it'll be stacked up high kind of like a gourmet burger but this wasn't the case. The cream cheese spreads are also very expensive, they are over $7 for 220 grams which is the same size as small container of Philadelphia cream cheese. Kettlemans feels like a gourmet experience and delivers delicious food so I will be back. I can imagine this being a perfect spot to grab breakfast or lunch - they are right across the street from a McDonalds so if you want to elevate your coffee or morning bagel and egg combo, I'd come here instead. They also offer catering, convenient for all the office workers in the area who might want a good lunch. Another great perk is that they are open 24/7! Such a rarity these days. Must try it if you love bagels, come and compare it for yourself.

Yelp
Blueberry danish was the best I've ever had. Was in town for the Grand Prix and went back here three times.

Yelp
I bought a couple of bagels here recently. They were warm and smelled good I tried eating one later and it was so rubbery! It gift my jaw to chew it. Not only that but the bagels were thin and had big holes in them. Usually bagels have smaller holes in the middle and they're plump. I don't think the staff there were properly trained in making bagels. The bagels were overpriced too. $1.75 each. I can't eat the other one. It's a waste of money. Typo It hurt (not gift) my jaw to chew it.

Yelp
Pretty good bagel, fast service. Had a Reuben. Nice to sit down inside. Tasted good. Thanks

Yelp
J'y retournerai.

Yelp
Recommended by friends from Montreal and they were right. Had takeaway bagels before leaving town and it was worth it.

Yelp
Got it for delivery so cannot speak for the physical location. Bagel are ok? I mean I've certainly had worse. They are very flavorful, but the texture was just a bit too hard for me.

Yelp
Kettleman's has a great variety of bagel sandwich options - a step above fast food for sure. The assembly line approach to getting hundreds of bagels ready at a time to cook, and then everything in order to quickly prepare your sandwich means it's all freshly prepared but you can get in and out quickly. I recommend the breakfast sandwich over the Western omelette version, we tried both and the breakfast sandwich had a better overall flavour with a good amount of bacon. I tried the pumpernickel and whole wheat bagels and I thought the pumpernickel was excellent - it comes with half a side dipped in sesame seeds which I also really like. A good spot to get a quick bagel sandwich without breaking the bank compared to similar places in Montreal.

Yelp
First time trying Montreal's bagels. I'm from New York and I can say I have something to compare it to. In NY, if you choose to have anything on the bagel like sesame, everything, etc., it'll only cover the top part of the bagel. At Kettleman's, the bagels are covered top and bottom which makes it way better. It was fresh and tasted great! Coffee can be better though, that's why I put 1 less star.

Yelp
I had not be to Montreal in a while so I really enjoyed their bagels. A bit different than New York bagels bur very good

Dina N.

Yelp
The last day of my holiday and thought I would give their bagels a try. After having other bagels in Montreal this was my least favorite. Bagel was just ok but service was not good. The girl working the register didn't seem comfortable with what she was doing. There were only 4 people ahead of me and it took 15 minutes for me to order. I ordered an everything bagel and got a sesame bagel. I ordered coffee and there was none left so I had to wait for them to make some. Then no milk or cream so I had to ask for them to refill. Coffee counter was a mess and all trash cans were overflowing. Half the napkin holders were out of napkins. Definitely didn't seem like keeping up the appearance was on the top of their list. It was 10am so not rush hour and it looked like plenty of people were working but obviouly not a priority. I may have even gone back for a bagel in the future if the place wasn't such a mess. Hope for their sake this is not a normal occurrence.

Yelp
Spent this Christmas in Montreal and had bagels every day of my stay for breakfast. Visited Kettlemans on two occasions. Carried 2 dozen of their bagels back to New Jersey as well, since I miss the flavor of wood smoke in the NJ NYC bagels. I In my opinion, the bagels have a sweeter taste and that can be kind of off-putting, compared to St Viateur bagels or Le Fabrique. The latter bagel is relatively more substantial compared to Kettlemans. The experience at their store was underwhelming in terms of service. The staff seem enthusiastic about making and baking and packing the bagels but not SERVING them appropriately. On both the occasions I had to request them for extra cream cheese with offer to pay, as they were just not putting enough cheese on the bagels. They also don't toast them well enough even when dark toast was requested. No excuse as the store was not crowded or many pickups were being attended to.

Joline S.

Yelp
Great selection of bagels, sandwiches & beverages. Option for indoor or outdoor seating.

Mary P.

Yelp
dry as a cracker! very disappointing. I purchased 4 bagels Thursday at around 8pm. They had stopped producing and were stored on shelves. That should have been my first clue.

Erik K.

Yelp
not reliable business If you order take put well in advance they will send you 15 minutes before order should be ready that order has failed. no explanation given. you spent your time it you problems

Samuel S.

Yelp
Great bagels and sooooo many options for cream cheese. They also have some delicious pastry options. A must place for many hungry locals and tourists around the Bell Center
