Kevin’s Kitchen - Review - McCully - Oahu - The Infatuation

"Of the new crop of Hong Kong-style restaurants in Honolulu, Kevin’s Kitchen shines for its banquet options, including shredded chicken and jellyfish salad and roast goose (preorder these dishes 48 hours in advance). But while you’ll see multigenerational celebrations in the evenings here, you’ll also find construction workers and businesspeople fueling up on lunch plates of roast meats and salt-and-pepper tofu all throughout the day. The interior isn’t much—you might have to squeeze into a table facing the wall—but the service is excellent. Waiters are quick to change out your plates and will even offer to refrigerate a cake for your birthday party." - Martha Cheng

Kevin's Kitchen is my new favorite Chinese restaurant. My family and I celebrated the Autumn Festival there this past Monday. We were initially hesitant, fearing the quality and food would be just like every other Chinese restaurant in Hawaii. The atmosphere was consistent with a truly authentic experience: a lot of lively yelling and loud noise! The food came out fast and all at once, and the majority of the patrons were local Chinese families, not tourists—a good sign! But what truly set it apart was the food. We ordered a large variety of dishes, from the famous roast duck to the salt and pepper tofu, and honestly, we loved every single one. The beef brisket with bean curb was so good, we ordered it twice. Next time, we will order the lobster and try one of the sizzling platter dishes. (It smelled so good.) Ngl...We are already planning to schedule our next celebrations here. I would highly recommend Kevin's Kitchen to all my friends. You can find it easily next to Times Supermarket, Grace's Inn, and Epi-ya Bakery. There is plenty of parking—you can't miss it!

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants now! I haven't had a single item that I didn't enjoy. Their Hong Kong tea is the best I've found on the island. Best for the classics like char sui, honey roasted pork, but I really love the roasted chicken and Peking style spare ribs! They have bentos, which are perfect for one person dining too.

KUDOs. None CHALLENGEs. Attempted to eat here 3 times; same drill. Two of us, no reservation. 1st: 4 empty tables; 2nd: 3 empty tables (3 couples turned away); 3rd: 6 empty tables. After entering, waiter asks 'how many?', then discusses loudly, in Chinese, with "manager/boss" in rear of restaurant. Answer is "full, nothing available." It appears that tables are saved to accommodate more people for larger profit. This is not the way to run a business. There are many other restaurants in Honolulu from which to choose.

Google
This place is our new favorite Hong Kong style restaurant on the island. After coming a few times and trying a bunch of different dishes, I can't say anything has disappointed me. The char siu is 5 star, no notes good. I get it every time and devour too much. Other favorites include the Peking pork chop and Shanghai noodles. You need to get an iced milk tea to go with it, also the best milk tea on the island.

Google
An amazing experience from start to finish. Our server was attentive and checked on our table frequently. The food came out quickly and tasted fresh. Be ready to feast because the portions are large! I would recommend bringing a jacket, because they put their AC on max. And parking was plentiful. My family and I will be returning soon to try their other items!

Many Chinese people come to pick up food for everyday dinners or for parties 🎉 Local group dining in more. Food is averaged good. Price is okay 👌 Don’t expect much service. Plenty parking space in the Times Market. Very convenient location!!

Google
Kevin's Kitchen is the place to go if you want Cantonese BBQ roast duck, char siu, roast pork, etc. It also has roast goose, which must be ordered in advance. The goose was very tasty and moist but some parts of the skin were not as crispy as I would have liked, in fact almost chewy. The pan fried String beans were very good, soft yet with a nice crunch. Service was good, the servers kept checking on us and refilling our tea pot. And free parking is plentiful.

Google
We had... Fish maw soup Honey roasted pork (Char Siu) Eggplant w/ pork Scallops w/ Broccoli Everything was fresh, tasty and at the perfect doneness. It's a bit of a hole in the wall Chinese place. So the decor and service was exactly what is to be expected. All in all, I will definitely come back with friends.

Yelp
Clean premises, efficient service, pleasant servers. Food is fresh & seasoned well, no stale oil taste or smell. Went back few days later, found premises closed. Signage should indicate what days they close. Two other parties approached the door as we were looking for a sign to indicate when they would reopen. We would go again if we knew the restaurant was open.

Yelp
This review is for the counter area only, as we didn't dine in this time. I've been meaning to try this place ever since they opened but never quite got around to it. Ever since Nam Fong closed in Chinatown, I've been on the hunt for a new go-to spot for Chinese meat classics like roast duck, roast pork, and char siu. As soon as my sons and I walked in, the cashier greeted us warmly and walked me through the counter options and pricing -- super helpful for a first-timer. I ordered the roast duck & char siu. The char siu was perfectly seasoned: not overly sweet and not drenched in sauce. My sons absolutely loved it. The roast duck was juicy, flavorful, and just plain delicious -- also kid-approved. We'll be back soon to dine in and try their other meats from the counter. This place is officially on my regular rotation!

Yelp
In short, this will now be a go to spot for us for Cantonese. Kevin's Kitchen has been on my list to try for a while now and we finally were able to stop in for dinner here on Christmas Eve. It was a madhouse but somehow we lucked out and got seated at the last available small table. Food was the typical Cantonese fare with the addition of some higher end seafood items and a whiteboard of specials which should definitely be consulted. The giant platters of delicious looking lobster being delivered to tables around us came from those specials of the day. The Peking/capital pork chops were lean but tender, served in an awesome tangy sauce. Green beans with ground pork were fresh and tasty and full of meat. The shrimp fried rice was also surprisingly delicious and served with lots of big shrimp. The salt and pepper chicken wings were served crisp and piping hot but were somewhat forgettable. We all agreed that we won't order those again but we would definitely recommend those first three dishes. This place is bustling and busy like an old school Cantonese neighborhood spot even though it's relatively new and still nice and clean. Great to see a comfortable place like this thriving. We will be back!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of this spot--had it for the first time to-go and we had to go back and have it fresh! Char siu: This is the best--extremely flavorful and the cuts are just right; not too lean and not too fatty. It's really hard to find such a perfect balance of flavor and quality in char siu, but Kevin's Kitchen makes it right. Crispy skin roast pork: Tender, flavorful, and oh-so-savory with that perfectly crispy skin. Another stellar dish that is made to classic perfection. Roast duck: I had this when it was a bit cold already, but like all their other roasted specialties, this was also full of flavor and very tender to eat. I'm pretty sure that if I had this fresh, the skin would still be slightly crisp. Beef chow fun: I've had beef chow fun with more wok hei, but this can still hold its own and I can see my dad enjoying this (beef chow fun is his fave dish). The chunks of beef are tender and each noodle has been imbued with flavor. Singapore noodle: This is my husband's favorite dish, and it did not disappoint. The ratio of toppings to noodles was perfect, the curry taste was light yet present, and it was the perfect accompaniment to all of our other dishes. We had a few more dishes, including a few stellar veggie dishes, but there's nothing bad for me to say. This really feels like an old school mom n pop canto joint that my family would go to all the time, like something from my childhood. I'd definitely come here any time you're craving a taste of home.

Yelp
***4.5 STARS*** After 2 subpar visits to Kevin's Kitchen (KK), I was hesitant trying dinner. My visits had many Chinese patrons so the restaurant was legit but didn't want to try them for dinner. Fellow colleague at my part time job is 1st generation Chinese and he too, was disappointed here for dinner. Step in my BIL's cousin, who celebrated NYE dinner with her staff, family and good friends. She arranged 4 tables and was extended an invite. The catch phrase: Roast goose was on the menu. I don't ever recall seeing or hearing about roast goose being offered in Honolulu. I first had roast goose in Taiwan, then in China and Hong Kong. Compared with roast duck, roast goose is meatier and the meat is more succulent. Life changing. I arrived fashionably late to the dinner that started from 6pm. To my surprise, food service hadn't started yet when I arrived shortly after 620pm. I apologized to the host and hostess by greeting them upon my arrival. At 630pm, dinner started with seafood soup. After assessment, there were diced small shrimp, fish maw and mushrooms, which seemed standard but the flavor was outstanding. Rich and robust depth in flavor but after adding some white pepper and a dash of red wine vinegar, the soup was elevated and to another level. As stated in blogger Melissa Chang's Frolic article back in August 2025, roasted meats are a hit at KK and they sure didn't disappoint. We were served roast pork and char siu and both were delicious. The char siu was very tasty with amazing marbling. Roast pork was succulent good meat to fat ratio but the skin wasn't that crispy. Nonetheless, impressive roasted meats. Next we had cold chicken and jellyfish salad which was a crowd pleaser. Many on our table complimented the finesse and presentation. Absolutely delicious. However, the downside was the jellyfish was sparingly scattered. Would had been better with a better jellyfish to chicken ratio. The highly anticipated roast goose was next served and heard the oohs and ahhs from the neighboring tables. I noticed the roasted goose head and neck chopped and served on the plate. After several table mates snapped photos with their cameras, we took turns serving ourselves. I ended up getting a piece each of white and dark meat. It was perhaps my mistake of hyping this dish as the execution didn't meet my expectations. I had such fantastic roast goose in Asia and KK's version doesn't come close. The skin wasn't crispy and the meat was semi tough and could have used more seasoning. Next dish of beef tenderloin chunks fried with shishito peppers was something I've never had at a Chinese restaurant. The peppers were delicious and tender as it was first deep fried and then stir fried with deep fried garlic and yellow bell peppers. My teeth unfortunately couldn't bite the beef as I had a large chunk so I gave it to favorite nephew by default who devoured it. I really enjoyed the peppers as it had a nice bite, seasoned well with the wok hei essence. There was also a lot of buzz when stir fried grass carp with assorted veggies was served. It had a crunch texture that resembles geoduck and had a semi aftertaste as they are ground feeders. Another tasty dish with wok hei flavor. Another table favorite was the fried crab with exclusive spice blend (garlic and assorted spices that had a bright orange color that wasn't duck egg yolk). Because of my teeth condition I had a piece where I tried the body meat. The crab was executed to perfection and seasoned well. I gave the crab leg to my sister fearing I'd further injure my teeth and ended up sharing one of crab heads with my sister. Thank goodness for Metformin. Although many people enjoyed the stir fried gai lan with dried flounder, it was a tad bit overcooked to my liking. Gai lan should still have a crisp to the stems but it was soft for me. Flavor was spot on. We were advised lobster delivery didn't make it to KK so they substituted big head prawns, which was probably my favorite dish of the night. It was soft flavorful and loved the prawn head butter. The accompanying e-mein noodles were served separately. I mixed the prawn sauce on the braised noodles that were just delicious. When the dried scallop with egg whites fried rice was served, I was absolutely full but took 2 spoons of it. Once again, wok hei was present. Kudos to the chef. For dessert we had mango pudding with evaporated milk. This wasn't the generic pudding mix - - you could test fresh mango and had some pulp in it. Great way to finish the meal. Service was above average, especially it was a full house on NYE. Staff came to switch out our dirty plates, refilled our tea pots, water glasses and even buckets of ice as the hosts provided soft drinks and wine. Overall, a pleasant dinner at KK where I'd be game for another visit. Dinner entrees exceeded my expectations and want to sample more. 2026 #1

Yelp
Came here craving classic Chinese comfort food and this spot did not disappoint. The roast duck plate was the standout -- perfectly roasted with crispy skin, juicy meat, and that rich, savory flavor you want from good roast duck. The portion was generous and paired so well with rice and sauce. The char siu was equally solid: tender, slightly sweet, and nicely caramelized on the edges. You can tell it wasn't rushed -- full of flavor and not dry at all. We also ordered the beef chow fun, and it was done right. Great wok hei, tender beef, and wide noodles that weren't greasy or broken apart. Super satisfying and flavorful without being overly salty. To wash it all down, the Hong Kong lemon iced tea was refreshing and hit the spot -- perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and great with the richness of the dishes. Overall, everything tasted fresh, comforting, and well-executed. This is the kind of place you come back to when you're craving reliable, no-frills Chinese food that hits the spot. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation.

Yelp
So I think it's about time to update my review. I have been coming back regularly (mostly takeouts) since my first visit during their soft opening. And I just have to say their food has been consistently good. We always came for their lunch specials and ordered a couple of times during dinners. Nothing I can really complain about. I told many friends about this restaurant and they were all satisfied with the food. They are always busy so call ahead to place your order if you want takeouts. The guy who answers the phone is always nice.

Yelp
TL;DR - 90 percent of the dine in guest are speaking Cantonese. Moving beyond the great value, inexpensive lunch menu, this is one of the Island's best Chinese eateries. 1. Chinese BBQ - Meatiest roast duck. Even the back has plenty of meat. Very well seasoned from the inside out. Well roasted. Not overly salty. Uber tender charsiu with a good balance of fat. On the sweeter side but works. Finally, the roast pork. Not overly seasoned. Solid but eclipsed by the other two. 2. Gweilo Chinese - Very well made. ie, the honey walnut shrimp is perfectly cooked. Ethereally crisp, light batter lightly drizzled with a not overly sweetened honey mayo. Lots of candied walnuts a plus. 3. The "authentic" stuff: - Pan fried noodles - A crisp, not oily, cake of thin noodles topped with well cooked protein and barely cooked through veg in a balanced savory sauce that isn't too salty or overpowering. Sampled both the seafood and chicken versions. - Sizzling platters - black bean sauce seasoned smoking, sizzling platters of amazingly not overcooked protein and barely cooked through onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Despite the high heat, neither the bite size pieces of fish or shrimp overcooked. - Hot pots - Well braised, well seasoned, deeply flavored without being overly salty. Beef brisket with bean curd and kau yuk with taro satisfies. Looking forward to some of their pre-order required items in the coming weeks. Very efficient as expected and unexpectedly friendly service. Refreshingly impressive.

Yelp
Yesterday, I had lunch with my family here. The restaurant was packed. It's authentic Cantonese cuisine and the workers speak Chinese. Every item that we ordered was delicious. We ordered mostly off the lunch special menu (9am-2pm daily). We got the roast duck/roast pork plate $15, roast duck/shoyu chicken plate $15, Thai style tossed meat with rice $13.95 and lemon chicken off the regular menu $15.50. The food had great flavor. The roast duck was moist. The roast pork was juicy with crispy skin. It wasn't overly salted like most places. The lemon chicken was lightly battered and fried, then drenched in a sweet lemon sauce. The service was good and the food came out quickly. If you like authentic Cantonese food, this is the place to be.

Yelp
Got the Beef Chow Fun on this occasion. It was okay...a bit...boring. Beef is typical stir fry beef. Excellent value as the portion was large with a $14 pricing. Walked in...they aren't connected to any dining apps...the other option is to call. Quoted 10 minutes and it was ready around that time. There are usually a few people dining in or also getting takeout. I try go during off peak hours.

Yelp
A small but officiant restaurant that if you go early, you can find a table. Nice aisan decor and Chinese written special white board. Ordered two choice combination (sorry forgot to take the photo). Roast duck and char sui. The duck was a bit dry and the char sui was salty. Had a ordered of dry beef Chow fun. Came looking dark but not salty. Not to much vegetables. I love jelly fish. But this one was vinegary and spicy hot. Right texture. Not too soft, not too crunchy. Pros: Nice and clean place. Fast service which also offers take out. Cons: Like any small Chinese restaurant. It's noisy and busy. Maybe they over cooked things or it was an off day and little to salty for me. Jellyfish was too spicy hot for me. Would I go back? I always try a second time when I go to a new place. It might had been a bad day for them.

Yelp
Lunch menu prices very reasonable--$12 for fried beef noodles, Singapore rice vermicelli, etc. Beef noodles not oily, taste all right. We also ordered stir fry fish filet with asst.veggies and half roast duck from the normal menu. Fish filets sliced very thin so kinda difficult to pick up with chopsticks. The duck was so very sweet...it overpowered the savoury aspect of this specialty duck.

Yelp
We came here from a recommendation. This is a legit canto food place. We for the bbq pork (char siu) and roast duck lunch special. It was yummy yum yum. The beef chow fun is food not greasy and has the pan fried taste. That was 11.95 on the lunch special. Also the chicken and salted fried rice was fried perfectly not greasy and enough flavor of the salted fish. We Willl come back here for sure! The service was excellent too!

Yelp
Living kitchen is really good for take out Chinese specialties. Eat in suffers from all the same problems that many other Chinese restaurants have. The food ranges from really good to puzzling. Shrimp is always delicious, well cooked and never tough. Meanwhile the roast duck came cold. Everyone is busy and working very hard but that causes mistakes like forgotten orders each time. One server even loaded the tea pot with his bare hand because he couldn't find the scooper. Plenty free parking. Still recommend take out though.

Yelp
This review is based on our takeout roast duck order. The duck was very tender and well flavored and was very meaty. We haven't tried other dishes but everything was reasonably priced and the restaurant was really clean. Everyone was super friendly so we will definitely be back!

Yelp
We initially went on a Tuesday and found the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. We tried another night and ordered the steamed fish fillets and an order of Singapore noodles. The taste of the food was good and the portions were fine. The restaurant was clean and a little loud because all of the family parties that night. The service was efficient. We returned later on the week to try the lunch specials. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun it was delicious and priced at only $11.95. We also ordered the 2 item lunch plate of Roast Duck and Char Siu over rice for $15. that plate was good too. Parking was difficult during the day. Lots of takeout orders and groups of people. Worth waiting for if you want a good deal for lunch. Parking was not a problem during the evening.

Yelp
I read about the opening of this Cantonese restaurant, Kevin's Kitchen, through fellow Yelp Elite Friends during our recent visit to Japan and Korea in May of this year. Although there were mixed review ratings, most were high praises, and I found it unusual to find a good and authentic Hong Kong-style restaurant outside of Chinatown, so I bookmarked this restaurant. When I returned home in June, my eldest sister, whom I affectionately call "the termite," suggested a get-together for lunch after we took care of family business or after my then-upcoming knee replacement. During our visit with my sister, her friend, and my husband, we were greeted (in Cantonese) at the very crowded restaurant. LOL, I commented to our group that we "looked the part" of being recognized as either elder American-born Chinese residents or visitors. Upon responding in my fractured Cantonese, the female worker quickly seated our foursome at a recently vacated table. We felt assured that we could share several dishes since each of us made a menu selection. We were excited by inhaling the aromatics from the food of other diners, but our eyes were diverted to the roasted meats counter at the back of the restaurant. Before perusing the menu, I meandered to the roasted meats counter and gazed at the slabs of crisp-skinned roasted pork and whole ducks. I quickly decided to order a half order of Cantonese roast duck ($20) for our table, while the rest of our party selected the Steamed Fish Fillets ($19.95), Chinese Broccoli Pan-fried with Garlic ($16.50), and Singapore-style Rice Noodles ($14.95). We each squeezed in a bowlful of Mango Pudding $4.95, to counter our savory taste buds with a bit of sweetness. All of the dishes were prepared well, with excellent flavors, textures, aromatics, and portions. We didn't find any glitches with the service, as others mentioned in earlier reviews; the servers navigated their way through the restaurant quickly and efficiently. We have also returned to Kevin's Kitchen several more times to purchase their Chinese Roast Pork and BBQ Pork (sold by weight), which we have enjoyed snacking on at home with homemade steamed buns. Kevin's Kitchen is a tasty addition to this neighborhood's dine-in Chinese restaurant scene, and we hope to see them continue with many successes.

Yelp
I've been to Kevin's Kitchen many times just to buy some Roast Duck for my dad, as he just loves Roast Duck. After doing lots of "take-out", I finally had the opportunity to dine inside of Kevin's Kitchen. Where is Kevin's Kitchen located? If you know where Times Supermarket on Beretania Street is, or the FAMOUS Epi-Ya Bakery, Kevin's Kitchen is just next door from Epi-Ya. Kevin's Kitchen basically features Chinese cuisine, and if you're into delicious roasted meats, or say noodle dishes, then you've come to the right place. I was really surprised about the lunch prices for their food items, as I found the prices very reasonable. I ordered the following dishes for lunch - 1. Won Ton Noodle Soup 2. Roast Duck Bento 3. Beef Chow Fun I must say all three dishes were tasty & on-point. The service here was very attentive, absolutely no complaints about service here! Looking for ono Chinese grub at reasonable prices, give Kevin's Kitchen a try! Chance 'em!

Yelp
I met my No CA Canto boys on O'ahu, and they craved Chinese food. Kevin's was highly recommended, and offered many Canto items they are familiar with. We had shrimp, salt & pepper pork chops, pork belly, beef claypot, mapo tofu and ong choi (not all items pictured). All of the food came out quickly and tasted good. None of my friends complained. Our waiter was cool and accommodated 6 of us, despite a couple of table rounds taking up most of his time. The ambiance is nothing special, but they do offer fresh seafood. However, the prices were too high for us (i.e., Dungeness crab $96). I'd definitely return to Kevin's. Its not in the heart of Chinatown, so parking is adjacent. They let you BYOB, bc they don't have a liquor license.

Yelp
A super convenient location with lots of free parking and the food is pretty good. More often I am hearing people say they don't want to be in Chinatown. So when Kevin's popped up outside of Chinatown, I was excited to try it with fellow Elite Yelper Li Y. She ordered the lobster special, shoyu chicken, and a crispy noodle dish. All items were tasty, thank you Li :) After that first experience with yummy food and great customer service, I went back to dine in and brought the entire family. We are grateful for the large table that could seat all 10 of us! As you can see from the pictures, our family dinner was incredible. Lots of succulent seafood, plenty of fresh veggies, and never ending good flavor. Same as the first time I dined in, the customer service was stellar. They were fast and friendly :) Great to see this family establishment doing well!

Yelp
Wok Hay check! Taste, decor, smell, presentation- all 5 stars ! Doesnt look like much from outside but its like steeping into a Hong Kong eatery when you step inside - all of the food is good- I ordered noodle dishes but looked at what others had like sizzling platters everything lookd amazing ! I need to come back for more! And love that they are open all day ! no 2-5 break so anytime can eat!!

Yelp
Second time here at Kevin's Kitchen and they did not disappoint. We pre ordered the honey roasted pork and whole braised duck when making our reservations a day before. So worth it! Then we order roast duck, green bean with ground pork, Choi sum with oyster sauce, and go lo mein noodles. Sorry no pics everyone was so excited for the dishes we forgot to take pics. I guarantee it was so good. We couldn't decide if we liked the roast duck better than the braised duck because they were both soooo onolicious. We will be back to try more tasty dishes. I recommend making reservations especially on the weekends. It fill up fast

Yelp
Located in the same parking lot across of Beretania Times supermarket and the same side as Graces Drive inn. Lots of parking The clams with black bean sauce were very good and fresh and tasty. The dried beef chow fun was okay we had better tasting dried beef chow fun at other restaurants. The cold Ginger chicken was good and the tasty and ginger sauce was great, we had to ask for more to finish off the rest of the chicken. The pot stickers also was tasty and flavorful, it came with a red vinegar sauce, on the sweeter side, which I didn't care for the sauce and use the mustard instead, but the pot stickers was really good. Sauté shrimp was good it was nice and crispy and tasty The Honey Roast Pork was also very tasty and delicious it had a sweet taste to it and the marinate is not over powering the pork. Restroom are located outside and you need to have the key for men & women. Restaurant is large enough for medium size parties or gatherings. Fresh crab or lobster or specialty items have to be pre ordered ahead of time Staff was nice and service was good

Yelp
I was excited to try this new restaurant. Tried numerous times when they first opened but it was too busy. Tried to call for take out once but they were closed that day (it was a Tuesday evening). Finally was able to pick up for Sunday lunch. Was very surprised to see the restaurant only had 3 tables of customers at 1pm and the roast meats were still full. We ordered 6 dishes. Im sad that they all, except the noodles, came in small take out containers. Portion sizes are getting so small now. Fish filet with sweet and sour sauce $18.95 - I liked it! Good size fish pieces. I love sweet and sour sauce. Actually not too saucy. Could use more bell peppers because there was only a few pieces. Baked pork chop with salt and pepper $16.95 - very different when it's baked. Doesn't have the same crisp to it. Needed more seasoning too. Guess healthier. Beef chow fun $11.95 - good deal. But the noodles were thin and plain. Other places add more ingredients like sprouts, beef, and green onions. I love noodles so glad there was so much, but I like fresh noodles. These did not have the fresh chew. Beef with ginger and green onion $15.95 - would not order this again Char siu $16 or $17/lb - it had a different flavor to it. Not fatty. But different than what im used to. Slight sweetness. But ok. Roast pork $16 or $17/lb - also not fatty. Crispy. But not juicy. No wow factor. Like it was just brined in salt water. But ok to eat. Initial employee was friendly when we entered. But guy who took our order was little sassy. He seemed like the manager. He didnt seem appreciative either. Almost impatient. But the employee who brought us our food was really kind. Overall ok. Since we did take out, hard to beat Asian Mix next door.

Yelp
Really great service despite a packed house! Everyone was late night dining right before they closed;)! The restaurant literally uses every open space available. (Side note- the restroom is nearby outside to the left, get the key from the staff before you head out.) Their roast duck is fabulous - the highlight of the dinner, for sure. Seafood on crispy noodles were plentiful. Salted fish fried rice was a generous portion as well. The green beans were a tad too chewy, but the minced pork was tasty! Love the staff (met them at another restaurant) and the frequent tea and water refills-thank you so much!!!! Will def be back to try other items !!!

Yelp
Updated review Since I had a great experience last time, I came again. I tried their Char Siu & Roasted duck rice this time. It's very very delicious. I requested the fat char Siu, therefore, it tasted very tender and juicy. Roast duck is always good. I also tried the lemon tea and it's also good, very rich tea flavor and not over sweetened.

Yelp
Tried some other items this time. Tried the Gau gee and won ton soup/no noodles. The flavor was delicious but the size was not a lot. The won ton are the size of small cotton balls. 2 pcs of char siu and won bok. If you are hungry, then I would definitely get something else. Gau gee fried to perfection but this place is really quality over quantity.

Yelp
Writing this review because the crazy crowds are no longer there. Lunch specials (beef chow fun, Singapore rice noodles) are great deals at $11.99. It's hard to get this quantity and quantity for this price.. yeah not perfect could get more curry flavor for noodles, etc still great value. Other more authentic Chinese dishes are inconsistent. Roast pork wish the skin was more crispy but flavor is good. Char siu doesn't have the nice burnt ends but very tender. Like the lunch specials it's a great value for between $15 to $20. Parking is super convenient and would highly recommend if don't want to deal with this in Chinatown. Chinese service not friendly but efficient. They will help you answer any questions so don't fell you need a Cantonese speaking buddy to come.

Yelp
This Chinese restaurant gets busy ! If you have guests that you want to take there, I would recommend making a rsvp. It's because the food is that good! Trust me !!!

Yelp
The Chinese food is alright. The portion is ok, just enough to feed 2-3 people per dish but not enough for left overs. The location is convenient since it's next to Times with a lot of parking. The restaurant is medium in size but the ventilation is weak. It does get smelly when you walk into the restaurant.

Yelp
I'm beginning to settle into my favorite dishes here after multiple visits for take out and dine in. And have bought multiple shoyu chicken to share with others. It's embarrassing, James and Kevin (brothers and co-owners) now recognize me as a "regular". I have directed them to start calling me "Aunty" lol. It's an all in the family business as Father can regularly be found behind the chopping board busy cutting up roast meats for dine in AND heavy takeout traffic. And "Aunty Li" (mother to Kevin and James) pulls relief chopping, cashiering, serving, all around assistant duties. What I love at Kevin's Kitchen: roast duck and shoyu chicken from the bbq station, Singapore and traditional chow maifun, beef chow fun, lobster (or oyster) ginger onion... and as I try more dishes am sure the list will continue to grow. Also appreciate the always stellar service from the Lee family and associates. The restaurant is not very big. Always noisy (though a few hanging potted plants should help to absorb some of the sound); what you would expect from a vibrant and successful neighborhood Chinese restaurant. If you don't like the busy environment... can do takeout which is easy as parking is plentiful and easy. Sharing parking with Times Market, Epi-ya, and Grace's Drive Inn... there is always someone pulling out of a space... and more empty spaces on the side and back lot. Kevin's Kitchen has now risen to one of my top Cantonese Chinese restaurants in the city. And embarrassingly, I will be back for takeout of maybe another shoyu chicken soon! ;-P

Yelp
Update on Kevin's Kitchen today I stopped by to pick up lunch . I ordered a 2 choice char Siu and Shoyu chicken. Very disappointed I should have took a picture of my plate but I didn't . I wouldn't lie but I'll probably not be going back any soon . First of all the clam shell was filled with all rice on the bottom they do that so they don't have to give too much of the entree. Literally I had about 4 small pieces of Char Siu and the Shoyu chicken was all cartilage hardly any meat . I know this place is busy and trending now and their prices are cheap but if quality stay this way their not going to survive like all the other businesses in that same spot.

Yelp
Kevin's Kitchen, is 3rd or 4th business to take over this spot but my opinion, I am happy for this! Heard they are the owners of the Harbor Village in Hawaii Kai and who is Kevin, ? I wonder this while enjoying our lunch, so I asked one of the staff, Kevin is the cook & owner! The restaurant is nice, clean and bright! Roasted meats are located in the back of restaurant if you like to check it out for take out. I am glad that I made a spontaneous decision to dine here instead of my previous plans, lunch on a Thursday in July after 1 pm and they were still busy at this time, it took awhile for the wait staff to come get our order and get us our requested items but all good, they are short staffed and busy! I am glad to see that they have lunch special options available from 9-2pm daily. We ended up with a few items from the lunch menu. For our party of 4, we ordered: Thai-style tossed meat rice- $13.95 Singapore style rice noodle- $11.95 Roast duck lunch bento- $13.00 Half shoyu chicken -$9.00 Seafood noodles, sub for cake noodle - $18.95 +$1.50 & one lb roast pork for take out, but ate few pieces while dining in . We/my family really enjoyed all of our orders, the Thai-style tossed meat with rice is their version of Thai loco moco, comes with a sunny side egg. I loved that they have small bits of string beans in there, really flavorful! I plan to order this again! The shoyu chicken is filled with sauce and so tender, I loved the color of the shoyu chicken, nicely cook! For the roast duck pieces we got, it was nice and meaty but I feel it was missing a sauce which I forgot to ask for, Omg, so good!- I loved the Singapore rice noodles, never ate that for the longest time! I would say my least favorite is the seafood cake noodle, which I had better and flavor of gravy/sauce was on the lighter side. All in all, Wow, authentic! Everyone in my party enjoyed our meals, so stuffed! As the saying goes, "things happen for a reason" and I think this is new business opened up here definitely is a good reason! I will be back! Check out Kevin's Kitchen, I feel they got things under control now, they couldn't handle the grand opening craziness. Don't forget - close Tuesdays! Opens from 9:30 am- 8:30 pm. 5 stars!!

Yelp
Such a nice homey cantonese style family restaurant. Most of the tables here are for four or more. I went on a weekday lunch time where all the tables were filled and most were lrge parties that looked like families. Because there were only 2 of us we only ordered 2 dishes but there were so many thongs on the menu we wished we could try. To be safe we went off the lunch menu. We had the roasted duck charsiu combo and wonton noodle soup. I really enjoyed the meat choices here. Its flavorful and enjoyable. The meat with the sauce they put over it is insane! We asked for more of the light soy sauce because it was so good. The wonton soup is good but i probably would skip it next time.

Yelp
I was seriously craving roast duck and shoyu chicken today. My usual go-to spot in the area is Sandy's, but I decided to give Kevin's Kitchen another shot. I had been there once before for dinner -- it was okay, but I was pretty disappointed last time because they were out of duck. This time, I played it safe and called ahead to place an order for half duck, half chicken plate. When I arrived (about 10 minutes early), I went up to the counter to check on the order. They got to work on it right away -- scooping the rice and having one of the staff cut the meats. The timing worked out perfectly because I was starving, and I always eat lunch around the same time on weekdays, so I appreciated the quick turnaround. Now, let's talk food. Presentation? Meh. As you can see, it's not winning any beauty contests. But honestly, sometimes the messy-looking stuff tastes the best -- and that was definitely the case here. The rice wasn't my favorite -- kind of dry and a bit rough. They gave a lot of rice as well, couldn't finish it all. I also wish I got better cuts of the duck; I ended up with a few not-so-great pieces, which is a little disappointing. That said, the flavor was on point. The duck was really tasty, and the chicken was soft, tender, and flavorful. They pour the sauce on top (so don't expect it on the side), and it works. You also get three pieces of choy sum, which is a nice touch. For the price, it's hard to complain. ($15 for bento of two choices) I'd come back again -- it's pretty solid. Just knocking off one star because, hey, not all duck is created equal... sometimes you get the short end of the drumstick. I wish they gave me better cuts.

Yelp
My dad has mentioned Kevin's Kitchen to me for quite some time but I've been extremely busy so I didn't have a chance to take him there. His friends have been talking about this new restaurant so he's been patiently waiting. Thankfully some Yeep friends have been there and were able to provide me honest thoughts about the restaurant. Thanks Paul C, Craig T and Fran C! Kevin's Kitchen is located in the same lot as Times on Beretania St. next to Epi-Ya Bakery. Word on the street is that the owner has affiliation with Harbor Village Cuisine at Koko Marina Center. When you enter, you'll notice a clean dining room. It is a lot more functional than when it was Eat on Time. The place was half full with lots of Chinese people and there was a lot of parties waiting for take out. Prices are very customer friendly with their special lunch plates. Based on what other Yeeps told me, I came with lower expectations and knew what to order. We ordered their Roast Duck, Shoyu Chicken, Char Siu and Singapore Style Rice Noodles to share. Normally I never order Singapore Rice Noodles but Paul C said it was the best dish he had when he dined there with Yeeps so I wanted to give it a try. I heard a lot about the customer service but we experienced excellent customer service while dining in. Maybe because I spoke Chinese to them? Not sure as it seemed like all the tables received good customer service. It was busy so it did take a minute to get seated but they took our order quickly and we received our tea shortly after we ordered. The BBQ meats came out first but it took awhile before we got our Singapore Rice Noodles. It was busy so the kitchen was probably slammed and they were working as quickly as they could. The Roast Duck offers more meat than most other places offering this menu item. Granted the flavor isn't as profound but you can add sauce to Roast Duck but you can't add more meat. Their Shoyu Chicken was velvety and flavorful. Some parts offered very little meat but for the most part, it was good. The Char Siu was good but not the best I had. I was never a huge fan of Singapore Style Rice Noodles so it was about average for me. Also, it only had like 4-5 very small shrimp in the entire dish. Next time I want to try their Beef Chow Fun regardless if it lacks wok hei. Nice new Chinese restaurant that seems budget friendly.

Yelp
Have visited twice now and the location is great because there's a decent sized parking lot in the back. So far I've tried the roast duck, char siu, bbq pork fried rice, mapo tofu, and spicy garlic eggplant. The char siu alone is worth coming to try this place out. Has a really nice crunch and slightly sweet glaze on top which I haven't ever had before. I think the mapo tofu is a different style than I'm used to because it wasn't spicy at all. I think I would've really loved it if it had been spicy because the other flavors were good. The duck was also pretty good but would've been nice if there was a little more meat in the duck. Definitely worth coming to try this place out and the family working there was all very friendly. My only critique is that if you dine in just be aware that one style of table has this issue where the bar under the edge of the table is quite low and there's not a lot of space for your legs between the underside of the table and the chair seat. My husband's legs were pretty squished and couldn't really move them. Mine just barely fit but I had no room to cross my legs which made it a bit uncomfortable to dine in. We'll probably just get takeout next time.

Yelp
We were getting shopping in Times and saw that Kevin's Kevin was packed. We went back another day and saw the restaurant was still packed and wanted to try it out on another day. We went after during off lunch hours. The restaurant is still open between 2-4pm. The dinner menu is available all day and the lunch specials are only available in the morning until 2pm. Salt and pepper pork chops: The pork chops were cut in half. The quantity looks quite little but for a party of 2 or 3 people I think it is enough. The pork chops were thick and soft. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavor is pretty good. I wished there were more of the garlic, green onions, pepper on top. The toppings were pretty scarce. Half order roast duck: The roast duck was good. The duck was meaty and juicy. The flavor was good and they already poured the duck sauce over it. Specialty broth 1LB lobster with noodles: The lobster was what you expect for 1 LB. It was small but it was enough for 1-2 people. We requested for noodles with the lobster which is an additional charge. When this dish was brought out, there was a very generous amount of noodles. The specialty sauce was very good. It wasn't salty and it was rich. There was a good amount to cover all the lobster and noodles. I love how the noodles absorbed the sauce. Very flavorful. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. Service was very friendly. Our server was helpful and gives good recommendations. During lunch it seems less busy. Dinner time they are packed from what we seen so far. The only thing I do hope they improve is the ventilation. It was a little warm in there and the after-smell of the cooking was pretty strong when we walked in. The smell does linger for a while.

Yelp
Kevin's Kitchen is more like a full blown Chinese restaurant with fresh roast pork, duck, char siu, and shoyu chicken. When you hear kitchen you think it's some kind of take out or catering. We were pleasantly surprised by the affordable prices. You can get a full order of Beef chow fun for $11.95 That's unheard of these days especially with generous portion and good tasting. We were happy with the roast duck and pork too. Fresh and good. Won ton and brisket noodle was little different. It wasn't served with the thin min but instead flat, udon like noodle with a big portion. Unless you are hungry, it's a sharing dish. Located right next to Epiya bakery. Lots of free parking in the same lot as Times. This may be also good place for big party but I would call first. Good service and nice staff. They were pleasant and helpful.

Yelp
Update. Closed Tuesdays. Also kitchen closed 2pm to 4pm. Shoyu sauce chicken is now $18 Beef chow fun, lunch special seemed over cooked. Singapore rice noodles, lunch special didn't have enough curry taste.

Yelp
Not your typical kitchen... After seeing the various food pics tonight I was on my own for dinner and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to see what's cooking at Kevin's which is located right in the heart of S.Beretania besides Time's Supermarket so finding parking is easy...easier than making the decision of what to have. Walking in to this cozy spot I see they've tried to fit as much large tables so it just felt really cramped and didn't really feel that comfortable amongst so many diners so close together which is a good thing that I was ordering a take out and before I could even pick up a menu a staff walked over to greet me and told him that I'd like to order take out and was ready to take my order writing it on his hand lol! It had to be their Beef Chow Fun with Black Bean Sauce though after paying and putting the order in he later informed me that they just sold their last order and was sold out...sob! He was very apologetic and suggested their Shanghai Style Fried Noodle which I know comes standard with shrimp and told him that it's an allergy issue and says that they can replace it with meat which is nice since I rarely get to enjoy it since it comes with shrimp and it had just the right amount of curry along with bean sprouts, onion and try-colored peppers all cooked tender and not raw made it so easy to enjoy it all and I sure did as it did have a kick of spice so it didn't need any other hot sauce. Though it did have a chili icon it didn't say shrimp for those who don't know did concern me which I always have to ask questions but did enjoy it all and the staff was nice and friendly who took great care of me. Thank you!

Yelp
Being a state holiday today and some of us yelpers were off we decided to check out this new Chinese restaurant take out by epi ya bakery and times Supermarket beretania area. This place was opened about a month now so we all said we're gamed let check them out. The inside was renovated brighter new paint job and seems like more staff were available. Hostess to sit you down a guy came took orders and another lady were bringing the water, tea, etc. Taking away the Dirty dishes away. The food was OK and I guess the service did improve from the last time of their grand opening where people were yelping or posting about certain things. Prices were reasonable for now but when the tariffs goes in effect might change. Lol. It was getting busy after 11am. Loud talking in Chinese dialect. Good thing we're were going. Haha.

Yelp
Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... Lunch Specials at Kevin's Kitchen are really a great deal. The challenge is the service. On my first visit, I motioned to the receptionist that it's just me (party of one). She signaled to sit anywhere (because the place was semi-empty) and then set the table for 4 people... LOL! I told her that I wanted a wonton min. Then, I waited. Other staff came, gave me a pot of tea, and removed two of the place settings. Other customers arrived and ordered. When they got their meals, I asked about mine. Gosh... I think I sat for about half an hour and they didn't wonder about my order? At least i knew my wonton min was fresh when it arrived about15 minutes later! There wasn't a whole shrimp in each dumpling... the shrimp was chopped up and mixed into the pork. The noodles were the thick type... not the thin Hong Kong style. Meh. I wanted to make sure that they noodles weren't a mistake, so I went back a couple of days later with my dentist - to get a second opinion. Yes - she agreed that the food is good - especially the Lunch Specials! We got the roast duck plate - yummy! And - she agreed that the service could improve. She had to ask three times for a pot of tea! We don't know if it's a communication issue? Maybe because English is the second language? Or is it a lack of training to remember customer requests? Not sure. We appreciated the free parking and pleasant environment. It was noisy at times when it was crowded. We waited quite a while for an empty table. Maybe they need some time to get adjusted as this was their first week of business? Note: get the key for the restroom a couple of doors away.

Yelp
Lunch today with friends. Kevins Kitchen was the groups choice to celebrate the holiday. After hearing some varying comments about this new restaurant. I was going in with and open mind. We were cordially greeted and seated. The interior of the restaurant was completely overhauled. It now has a very open air feel to it. The walls adorn a few potted flowering plants. The noise level from the customers in the restaurant can be loud. Thanks to Paul C our ordering was a snap. Since he speaks Chinese fluently. Overall the dishes that we ordered were ok in taste. If in the area I would do takeouts. Enjoy

Yelp
My second visit here brings more familiar tastes. Kevin's Kitchen is still only a little more than two weeks old, and the food was more better than their first day. I feel this place has become suddenly very popular than what they imagined as they've been getting a lot of big party reservations, and the restaurant has revised its hours with Tuesday closed and from 2-4pm, only the roast meat counter is open while the kitchen is closed for preparations. We came on a Sunday evening, and it was a full house the entire time I was there with 3 big parties. We had to wait about 20 minutes, which wasn't that bad at all. Everyone working there was super busy, but the food came out at a very good pace, and the servers were still being attentive and accommodating, and providing excellent service with a friendly demeanor. Started with the Seafood and Fish Maw Soup. This was packed with fish maw. The soup was tasty and had a very nice consistency. Add red vinegar and white pepper for a better experience! The Honey Roasted Pork was very good! The meat was tender, tasty, and flavorful. Very spot on! The Fried Stuffed Tofu with Minced Shrimp was one of our favorites from Harbor Village Cuisine, and it's still as good now--perhaps even better. Tofu was nicely seasoned, battered, and fried to a nice crisp with a good amount of minced shrimp. The accompanying sauce was very good. Savory, salty with a little spice. The Chinese Broccoli was excellent. Well prepared with solid garlic flavor. Beef Brisket and Bean Curd Hotpot was very good. Really good flavor with tender and tasty brisket and tendon. It looked a little bit low in the pot, but it had a very good amount of meat. Maybe need more Chinese Cabbage at the bottom? The Chicken with Wine and Garlic hotpot was really good. Tender and flavorful chopped chicken with just scorched onions and bell peppers that were still crunchy. Very spot on! Lastly, the Beef Chow Funn with Vegetables was good. Light, skinny, tender chow funn noodles (Lam's Kitchen-like) that had a good amount of sauce and a generous number of toppings with tender beef, straw mushrooms, choy sum, carrots, and etc. Overall, solid experience. The food was very good, very well-prepared. The tastes and flavors were spot on with nothing overly salty or light. Even with the restaurant super busy, all the servers were still attentive and friendly. Always noticed our teapot lid was slightly ajar--signaling we need a refill, and always grabbed our empty plates when they pass by. Can't wait to come back again to try more things!

Yelp
New restaurant next to times supermarket. Ordered from the lunch specials: Thai style tossed meat rice Half roast duck Beef chow fun. Everything was tasty and flavorful, except the duck could be a little more seasoned. Duck was very meaty though. Portions were great for the price you pay. Will be back to try more dishes

Yelp
I was excited to try this new Cantonese restaurant next to Times and Epi-ya bakery on Beretania because the family had gone the night before and wanted to go again the next day for lunch. There are special dishes that must be ordered a day ahead so they couldn't get them the previous night. The place was packed and while the help was friendly, there wasn't enough. Good thing we had reservations and they sat 10 of us at a big round table. They had other tables for smaller parties. Service was slow so we decided to stand up several times to help get our teapots refilled and request for water again. The most disappointing part was that the braised duck we ordered a day in advance was not ready. I guess they are still working out their flow. Despite these opening foibles, we did enjoy the food. Soup, seafood cake noodle ( crispy on the outside), and eggplant were all good. The star was the Li Yuan House Special, a delicious stir fry of unidentifiable chive like greens, salted shrimp, and squid legs. Love trying new dishes! Our server, Dolphin, said that they were something like garlic shoots. Oops! Half was eaten when I got to take a pic. Would come back for specialty dishes but at a less busy time.
