The Best New Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul Right Now, March 2025

"The long-awaited Vietnamese restaurant from chef Eric Pham opened in early March in South St. Anthony Park. Fans might remember Pham’s pop-up, which held a long-term residency at Bar Brava. He was supposed to open a physical space in August in a different location, however, that building was destroyed by a fire, thus stalling progress. Khue’s Kitchen has since permanently emerged at St. Paul-based shared commercial kitchen, MidCity Kitchen. While most tenants of the space are on-site during daytime hours, Pham takes advantage of the spacious dining room and offers dinner service. Here, diners can expect specialties like sticky jicama ribs; Pham’s pristine fried chicken sandwich with chili crunch; and desserts like Thai tea-infused tres leches cake. Make a reservation on Tock." - Serena Maria Daniels

11 Tasty Fried Chicken Sandwiches in the Twin Cities

"A newcomer on the fried chicken scene, Khue’s Kitchen is making waves with its chili crunch fried chicken sandwich. This sandwich hits some spicy notes — chili seeds coat the breading, and the bun has a tantalizing glaze of chili oil — but it’s all balanced out by the creamy herb aioli. The whole thing is impossibly buttery." - Natalia Mendez, Eater Staff

I accidentally found this spot scrolling around google maps for restaurants on Raymond Avenue. Looks like this place had just opened recently and had great reviews so I wanted to visit. I finally got to eat there last night with my family! The Food: Everything we ordered was so good! The Pork Fried Rice was so flavorful I had to finish the entire bowl. To be fair, we were all famished after a long afternoon at the gym. My kid had the Jicama Ribs and the texture was unreal. Crunchy outside but also soft in the middle like the fat of real ribs. The flavor was reminiscent of a pork dish I grew up eating, but it was all vegetarian. Delightful! My partner had the Banh Mi Meatball and that was excellent too. All dishes were plated beautifully. We all topped it off with the Thai Tea Tres Leches, we all enjoyed it as it wasn't cloyingly rich or overly sweet. Partner enjoyed the frosting quite a bit which says a lot since he's not a sweets person. The restaurant/ambiance: Cozy and intimate with a great patio for warmer weather. Everything is tastefully decorated and it would be such a perfect spot for a date night. The music playlist they had on was rad too. I mean, I would want to listen to Sade while eating a great meal. The service: Staff were so attentive and kind and explained their favorites and recommendations. They were on top of everything! Chef Pham was super kind and funny and came out to talk to all the diners. 10/10 would highly recommend it to everyone. What a little gem of a restaurant! Please support them!

My partner has been obsessed with Khue’s and I finally got to try it. Everything was top notch, from the friendly and attentive service to the airy space and the delicious food. The steak was the best steak I have ever had. The char and seasoning on it was unreal and melted in your mouth. The chicken sandwich was perfectly juicy and seasoned as well. The chicken wings were a bit spicy for me, but it’s in their name. Both desserts were incredible to finish it off. An absolute must try in Minneapolis.

Went here twice in a week! Love Vietnamese food and was super stoked to see a higher end Vietnamese place. The chicken salad is a must, sweet, herbal, and refreshing. This is definitely our favorite. Had the pork chop and chicken wings the first time. Absolutely loved them. Tried the 20oz ribeye and it was amazing, perfectly cooked, and the marinade/sauce paired really well. Portions are huge and definitely worth it. The owners are kind and you can tell they care about their patrons as well, regularly engaging with them. Definitely will be returning.

Google
Amazing spot! My partner and I shared 5 dishes (including dessert) and everything was phenomenal — the crunch on the wings/chicken sandwich were insane! I had the NA Ume Spritz and my partner had a glass of sake which were both very refreshing on this 90+ degree day. Harry took great care of us, as well as other staff stopping by to fill our waters, drop off food, and just to check that everything was going well. Will definitely be coming back to try more items!

I had the pleasure of eating here while in Minneapolis. The food was amazing, great environment, loved the modern style and the price is reasonable. I’ve honestly never had a steak nor pork chop that flavorful and juicy. I had the pork chop but of course I had to steal from my boyfriend’s plate and try his steak. There’s a saying “ you put your foot in it “ meaning the food is delicious ! well I can say the chef placed his two foot and ankles in it, my goodness!. The owner walked around, making sure the food was made correctly and that his customers we’re enjoying their time there. I can’t wait to revisit. Definitely a place I would recommend to all.

Google
Great dining experience! I had dinner here with my husband for the first time and this is my new favorite restaurant! The food is really well prepared and delicious. We had: -chicken salad- so delicious with fresh herbs, crunchy shallots and nuac Cham dressing. -Pork fried rice: had several different kinds of pork- an Asian sausage, a crunchy pork and a perfectly cooked jammy egg with chili crisp -jacima and tofu ribs- a revelation of flavor in a vegetarian dish! Amazing and creative. -Tres leches cake for dessert with Thai tea- very delicious and not too sweet We were served by a delightful server and the owner’s father prepared the best Vietnamese iced coffee I’ve ever had!! What a treat! The chef owner came by to check on us and we enjoyed the conversation. Highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious food and the overall high standard of service.

Google
We had a phenomenal experience at Khue's. We had the salad, pork chop, pork fries rice and cream cheese wontons. All of it is amazing, flavorful and made with much thought into the ingredients and spices. The chef and his father both came out to chat with the patrons and share some details about the food and the culture. I highly recommend it!

Here’s the deal with Khue’s Kitchen - it’s a great spot with elevated and delicious vietnamese inspired options and a service staff that is trying hard but still feels inexperienced. The four of us basically ordered the whole (small) menu and everything was great. Would zero hesitation order any of it again and be happy. I’d make sure to clarify how you want the steak cooked if you order it, we weren’t asked and it came out quite rare. Surprised by no cocktails. Limited beer. Plenty of wine tho. Service was kind but several awkward moments had us clearing our own dishes as the next course arrived and being asked about dessert orders while some are still clearly eating dinner, etc, were just sort of a weird vibe for a nice night out. But yeah, the food was a star and I can’t wait to go back for those wings.

Yelp
I don't think I can talk highly enough about my dinner here, it was that great of an experience! I went with a few friends who had been before and wanted to get one last meal in before the residency ended, and I am so glad that I was able to make it. The ambiance of the space was great, service was super attentive, and the food was top notch. We ordered the entire savory menu to split among our group (definitely the way to go), and my favorites were the spare ribs, crispy tofu, fried rice, and the wings. The wings and ribs were among some of the best I've had (the wings were probably the best wings I've ever had, if I'm being honest)! Everything was perfectly cooked and so delicious. We were too full for dessert but saw some other tables order it and it looked great too. Tip- the wine shots are super fun and a great thing to order if you want to try multiple wines! Chef Eric even came over after our meal to say hi and talk to us, which was so nice of him. This was one of the best meals I've had in a while, 100% worth a last minute visit before the residency at Bar Brava ends!

Yelp
The food was all very delicious. So much that I went back the following week before the leave Bar Brava (1/13/24). A few points on the food: 1]Fried Wings- You can have it with or without chili crunch. Or like I did... put it on half. First time I got it, it came with a tasty sweet sauce that went well on the rice. 2)Fried Chicken Sandwich- that herb aioli is so tasty. I bet it would be good on the rice too. 3)Cream Cheese Wontons- good, but the highlight for me was the dipping sauce. It had a light fruity flavor. I had a lovely experience. Once Khue's Kitchen leaves, my understanding is 1) they'll be new venture for them and 2) Bar Brava will have another pop up.

Yelp
Khue's Kitchen @ Bar Brava is one place that is not talked about enough! I was so wowed with the cuisine. The spare ribs are out of this world. Paired with the cilantro and red cabbage with rice, compliment each other so well. Not to mention the egg soaked in soy sauce. Delicious! You can tell the menu was thought out so so well. I also shared a few other foods not pictured with my friends, wings and cheese wontons also amazing! The Vietnamese coffee with vanilla ice cream was such a delicious treat. And finally the Chè panna cotta. I can't rave about this dessert enough! The coconut cream with jackfruit and lychee was quite the treat. Just thinking about all this food is making me relive the wonderful experience I had eating at Khue's Kitchen. Hats off to the chef! Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, worth every penny!

Yelp
As a Vietnamese American, I really appreciated thr care to have Viet fusion that tastes right! Some Viet spots or Viet fusion spots waters down their flavors to appeal to a larger audience, but Khue's has all the right flavors to be new yet nostalgic at the same time. I love the caramelized spare ribs with the jammy egg, five spice tofu, chili oil wings, and the chicken sandwich. I'm sure I would have loved everything else too if I had ordered it! The dessert is also spot on- affogato and coconut panna cotta. You order with the staff (and you can also order Bar Brava's wine) but if you are lucky enough, Chef Eric would be in front of you cooking and you'll get to chat with him. He's humble, talented, and has a true love for cooking. Khue's will be at Bar Brava until December, which is a cozy and intimate space- perfect for one on one conversations and dates. I'll be sad to see Chef Eric go, but can't wait to see what his next project and plans for Khue's will be!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went twice to try everything on the menu. It was amazing. I will definitely visit again when they are in a new permanent location.

Yelp
At Khue's Kitchen at Bar Brava, my experience was overall delightful, meriting a 4.5-star review. The complimentary wine samples were a fantastic touch, adding an extra layer of hospitality. While the rice dish was slightly on the saltier side for my taste, it was still enjoyable. The food, in general, was solid--reliable and satisfying without necessarily pushing culinary boundaries. The wings, however, were a standout dish and possibly the best I've had, making them a must-try item on the menu. The Bao was simple with well made baos and delicious pork belly, rounding out a meal that was both comforting and well-executed. For bar food it's phenomenal, you can't go wrong. I won't be coming again but would recommend for a one time eat before it's gone in December.

Yelp
The most important piece of information I can give you is to enter at the door pictured. That door is your gateway to some of the most delicious Vietnamese food I've ever had. The five spice tofu is nubbly crisp on the outside, and (juicy?) on the inside. It's coated in a very tasty sauce, and comes with jasmine rice and Vietnamese style kimchee veggies. Yum! The caramelized pork ribs come with a perfectly jammy egg to squish into the rice. Yum!! The spicy chicken sandwich is crispy, tender, delicious. Not too spicy - the chili crisp smooshed together with the mayonnaise is the perfect topping to pull it all together. Be sure to get an order of the fried rice. I love this type of eggy home style fried rice, made without soy sauce. You have to try this place - it is the ultimate comfort food for people who consider interesting new flavors to be comforting. Takeout and delivery only.

Yelp
This cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, simple menu, and wonderful dessert. The fried chicken was so crunchy and juicy. Chef Pham killed it with his Chili Crunch Chili Oil. I tried acquiring how he makes it... he wouldn't spill the tea. Though a photo was not included, I also ordered the Cream Cheese Wonton. Can't go wrong with a classic appetizer. Ended the meal with a light and refreshing Panna Cotta. Highly recommend checking them out.

Yelp
Best Fried Chicken Sandwich in MSP???!!! Yes, it's a little difficult to find - go inside and down the hall, if you've hit the crossfit gym with the loud music you've gone too far! You can't actually go inside (Pickup/Delivery ONLY!!), you'll see a QR code on the left hall wall to order. The food took a bit to make but was so worth it, I would recommend ordering online ahead of time in the future. The chicken sandwich is AMAZING. SO CRISPY, SO FLAVORFUL, SO DELICOUS, also so mess and saucy but worth it!! It's completely worth the trip just for the sandwich but the rest of the wings and the rib are also good just not as good as the chicken sandwich. I have no clue how he gets the breading so amazingly thick and crunchy. Wow. I'm hungry just thinking about it!!

Yelp
Amazing service from the time we walked in , hard working staff and a more the personable chef killing it making sure the food is amazing , very talented and delicious food here , keep in mind the Restraunt is inside the wine bar but follow the address and go inside , defiantly would come back

Yelp
Location: A little bit hard to find! Your GPS might take you to a CrossFit gym, just go around to the other side of the building. You can down a longggg hallway where you wait for your food outside the kitchen **pickup only, no dine in*** Ordering: you can only order online, they do not have a cash register. Recommend ordering ahead of time since you have to anyway. Food: I got the spare ribs that came with rice, sautéed vegetables and a soy sauce egg. Soy sauce egg was really good, super fresh and the yolk was just the perfect amount of runny to eat with rice. The ribs were cooked perfectly and the glaze was really great. Sautéed vegetables had the perfect amount of crunch and complemented the spices in the ribs well.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to eat!! Their chicken sandwich was so good that I dream about it regularly. They have a small but wonderful menu

Yelp
You won't be disappointed going to Bar Brava and experiencing Khue's Kitchen. As a long time lover of Quang's it was a no brained to check this place out. The menu is short and sweet but you can't go wrong! The chicken sandwich was absolutely phenomenal. Perfectly moist and just ever so slightly spicy, balanced with an herb aioli. Not to mention, it's HUGE. You won't want to set this sandwich down. I also got the roast pork Bao. WOW! The bao buns are done to perfection. The house hoisin sauce paired beautifully with the pickled carrots. The scallion and cilantro add perfect subtle touches to the pork. This is the place to get a bunch of items and share with a few friends. The price is very reasonable for the portions received. As for the wine, the menu rotates often! So if you've ever wanted to try a natural wine this is the place to go! Overall, staff was friendly, kind and helpful with the menu. They kept the service quick as well! The vibe was chill, music a bit louder than an average restaurant but not so loud you couldn't converse. I eavesdropped on the people next to me as they chatted with the chef, Eric Pham. He was kind, humble and personable. He mentioned running each new menu item through his family and I couldn't be more pleased to hear it! The entire menu is Rooted in true tradition Vietnamese food with unique, bold twist. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Very good food, everything we ordered was flavorful. Paired with some unique wines this dinning experience is awesome. The chicken sandwich, ribs and veggie stir fry were all great. Wontons were very good as well and were very light appetizer. We will be back.

Yelp
This place is amazing! They had great pork belly buns, fried rice, and dessert options. The ambience is that of a busy, higher class bar. The staff was exceptional as well! Perfect place to go for a date night or a fancier, but affordable dinner.

T G.

Yelp
The menu was very limited and a bit all over the place, very cramped seating and loud, that being said the food that we did order was very good. I ordered the chicken sandwich yet there are no options for sides which I found very odd. That being said the sandwich was very good, this place was a mixed bag for us.

Yelp
Love love love! The food is fantastic and super affordable. You can tell Eric cares about his craft and customers. Highly recommend if you're passing through north east. Wontons and five spice wings are my go-to.

Rebekah L.

Yelp
We devoured our food so fast we forgot to take a nice picture! Everything tasted delicious. Each dish had its own unique and exciting flavors, I can't pick a favorite. The bold flavors melt in your mouth, the ribs were tender and falling off the bone The chicken wings are out of this world and I would highly recommend. My family can't wait to go back for more!

Jenna S.

Yelp
Can't say enough about Khue's Kitchen. We tried most of the menu and everything was wonderful, the wings and tofu were my personal favorites!

Anthony C.

Yelp
Fantastic food! Some of the best chicken wings I've ever had. Dipping sauce with the wontons was phenomenal. Excellent service

Yelp
Eric is an up and coming chief with French, and Asian cuisine cooking skills. His style of cooking is unique, robust, and inventive. He takes inspiration from some of my favorite chiefs such a as David Chang. I got a chance to talk with him for bit about who he is and where comes from and why he loves what he does. He's got a bright and friendly personality and it shows in every dish he's created. I got the ribs, sweet and sour chicken wings, five spice wings, and the cheese wonton. Every dish is a must try and the only thing wrong with each one is that you wish you would have ordered more. Each dish has its own unique flavor. It's a literal culinary adventure from one dish to the next. Oh and the price it so reasonable. Enough to come back for more with a happy belly and a happy wallet. I couldn't post any of the photos because, well I ate everything. If you have 10 mins of o spare, because that's all it takes, stop by and grab a bite it will be well worth your time and you'll be happily satisfied. Your stomach will thank you.

Cuong P.

Yelp
Best sweet and sour wings. Cheese wontons are great too. We also had the pork ribs and they were great.
