The 19 Best Restaurants in Cairo, Egypt | Eater

"After touring the Giza Plateau, step into the tranquil atmosphere of Khufu’s, where chef Mostafa Seif serves up a feast with the pyramids as a breathtaking backdrop. Sip on a glass of fresh banana milk while choosing from four set menus (including a vegetarian option), each consisting of a four-course meal with a choice of main dish. Seif puts gourmet twists on traditional Egyptian dishes, including koshary salad made with mefatela (a rural dough made of ground unprocessed wheat and skillfully kneaded with flour, producing little pearls similar to couscous), molokhia (classic green mallow soup) with rabbit, and savory qatayef, a pancake-like pastry that Egyptians stuff and fry, enjoyed both sweet and savory. This is an excellent introduction to Egyptian cuisine, particularly elements that are not easily found in restaurants catering to tourists." - Laila Hassaballa

After our first visit to the pyramids we ate at Khufu’s Restaurant was amazing. You have to make a reservation well in advance, and let me just say the food is incredible. The view is out of this world. Khufu’s didn’t have the best service, but that may have just been our particular server. I had to stand up quite a few times to get our server’s attention and ask for things repeatedly. Didn’t have these issues with service anywhere else in Egypt. But at the end of the day, you there for the food and the incredible view.

You can not beat this view! It was amazing to dine at Khufu and enjoy the pyramids beautifully lit at night, it was surreal. We were escorted by a shuttle driving at night up close from the pyramids, then we were greeted by the friendly service, and enjoyed a delicious and creative menu. Can highly recommend this wonderful experience

Khufu’s Restaurant was beautiful and the food was amazing. Was lovely to sit down, eat a meal while admiring the pyramids. However the service could be improved. The waiter made our table up which had the sun blaring on it and no umbrella to block it out but every other table had an umbrella, we didn’t get given menus despite sitting for 5 mins so I had to get up and ask for menus to be given. Everything was so slow and we had to also ask for our dessert to be given as they cleared our table and didn’t bring dessert. The prices could be better as some are expensive for what’s on offer. Overall it’s a great place but attention to detail is a must!

It’s a nice atmosphere if you want to treat yourself to lunch at the pyramids. It’s definitely not the best food you will get in Cairo but a nice experience for a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself. The ran out of the mixed grill by the time we were there around 2pm, which was disappointing. We ordered the quail, and 2x Egyptian culinary experience. The couscous that comes with the quail was fantastic, everything else was alright. The food came out slightly cold and I think it would’ve tasted way better if it was served hot. The service is also slow so prepare to give it time. They have a lot of waiters running around but if you’re dining inside, that gets a bit chaotic to sit within. We had to ask our waitress to bring out the main multiple times, as well as the dessert (that’s how slow the service is). Go to the pyramids BEFORE dining here if you’re coming for lunch because the service is slow and you may not have enough time for the pyramids, like us.

Amazing food, gorgeous view: what more can you ask for? The food was delicious, plenty of vegan options. And the plates and the mugs were gorgeous. I loved this place. I generally never eat at very touristy places but this restaurant was worth it.

Booking online was seamless, and upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and seated at a stunning table with a direct view of the Pyramids. The complimentary shuttle service from the gates to the restaurant was prompt, with virtually no wait time—just 0 to 5 minutes. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff graciously accommodated our request for extra seating when unexpected family members joined us. Their flexibility and attentiveness truly enhanced our experience. The food was both satisfying and authentic, beautifully infused with the chef’s signature twist that preserved the original flavors while adding a delicious, creative touch. Every dish felt thoughtfully crafted and unique. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Pyramids. The ambiance, service, and cuisine come together to create a memorable experience. We even purchased some of the distinctive plates from the charming kiosk outside as keepsakes.

We were warmly welcomed at Khufu’s on a boiling hot morning by the friendliest staff, with breathtaking views of all three pyramids and the perfect atmosphere. Despite the heat, the restaurant is wonderfully shaded and cooled, making it a comfortable experience even in the midday sun. The food was nothing short of exceptional - a beautiful, authentic Egyptian breakfast with creative twists. The menu truly has something for everyone, with unbelievably quick service and excellent coffee. A special thank you to Hussein, who looked after us SO thoughtfully. All staff were exceptionally polite, accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu. ⭐️ ✨ A few tips for visitors: • Easy to reserve a table, online. • You have to purchase entrance tickets to the pyramids to access the restaurant. However, the restaurant is now easily accessible thanks to new amenities and transport services that make getting to and from Khufu’s smooth and simple: • If you’d like a seamless modern journey, use the new “Great Gate”, where you can purchase tickets easily and enter via electronic gates (using your ticket), without needing much guidance. Arrive early to enjoy the calm atmosphere before it gets busy. From here, you hop on a modern bus / coach (with AC) to the restaurant. Short journey! • For a more traditional experience, you can enter via the old “Great Sphinx” gate and travel by camel or horse. The ticket office is outside of this gate (around the corner). Buses are also available at this gate, with locals ready to help guide you. This route is longer and more chaotic but fun, nonetheless! The full experience! You’ll likely need cash and locals / workers will expect tips. Whichever gate you enter from, you can choose to leave via any gate. We travelled via horse carriage from the old gate, which was so traditional and memorable, but chose to leave via the new gate. This allowed us to experience both sides - the cultural charm of the old route and the modern ease of the new one. It was the perfect balance between authenticity and comfort. I hope this helps! What a dreamy morning - we can’t wait to return! Thank you again, Khufu’s 💛

The food at Khufu is simply splendid and excellent. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared with high-quality ingredients and authentic Egyptian flavors. Whether you’re indulging in traditional dishes or exploring more contemporary takes, the culinary standard is exceptional. The atmosphere is brilliant. Dining with a direct view of the majestic pyramids creates an unforgettable backdrop. The ambiance strikes a beautiful balance between elegant and relaxed, making it suitable for both romantic evenings and special gatherings. This was the only drawback of the experience. Unfortunately, the servers appeared to be poorly trained, frequently engaging in loud arguments, shouting, and even cursing at each other within earshot of guests. It was disruptive and left a negative impression during an otherwise perfect visit. Khufu Restaurant could easily rank among the top dining spots in Egypt if it weren’t for the service issues. Everything else—from the location to the food and ambiance—is exceptionally perfect. With improved staff training and better service etiquette, this restaurant would truly offer a five-star experience.
