Kick Axe Throwing DC

This place was SO MUCH FUN. We went for my partners birthday and even tho it was just 2 of us, it was so much fun. Staff was fantastic. We did the axe throwing as well as the nerf. Axe throwing is definitely more fun but it was still fun being able to shoot a bunch of different nerf guns. The interactive games you can play for both are also a fun idea. Definitely adds something extra to everything vs just throwing at a simple target over and over again for an hour. Bar was great with delicious cocktails. The place was really fun and cool, with a ton of awesome sitting places. You could chill at the bar or other cool seating that also had other games you could play like giant janga or giant connect four. Will definitely be back again!

Met up with a friend for some quality hangout time. The place was pretty empty (Monday afternoon) but the staff were all awesome. We never felt rushed or pressured, and we always had support if we needed it. The axe throwing with projection is pretty fun. We failed at all of em but had a great time!

I can't thank Lynne and her team enough for making our holiday party such a memorable event! From start to finish, everything was flawless. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and everyone couldn't stop talking about it. The staff went above and beyond—welcoming, accommodating, and attentive to every detail, both upstairs and downstairs. Our team had an absolute blast, and many even said it was the best holiday party they've ever attended. I truly appreciate all of Lynne's help and guidance in making the event a success. I really had a great time here. Came for a staff social event and I was very hesitant about participating at first but who knew I would end up being a pro. That may have helped make this a five star event for me. Here are some takeaways: Environment Large fun filled space - once you walk in there is the a bar and behind the bar is the area where you throw axes. There, they have the throwing area and kind of this bar area for folks who want to hang back and watch their friends or colleagues throw axes. It was really cool space with neat decorations hanging around the area that really inspires the fun nature. Service All the staff were welcoming and friendly. They have staff that give instructions and help out with the axe area. They are full of great energy and made us feel welcome in the space. Food and drinks The drinks were fine - nothing that stood out but got the job done. I can't speak to price because this was a company event so not sure if you get the bang for you buck here. Overall I had a blast. It was a lot of fun to throw axes - who would've known! Would definitely go back.

Quick summary: go for the Rooftop. My office held our holiday outing here on a Thursday evening. We were able to find street parking since it was after 630pm. As we waited for the whole group, we went by the fireplace to play big Jenga. They had other games to pass the time with also. Once everyone arrived and we signed our waivers, Kevin was our instructor and took good care of us. We started at throw 12 and saw behind us the glow option and asked to switch lanes. They were more than accommodating on that night, which I know was because the traffic of people was manageable. Food wise enjoyed the Mac and cheese bites and tacos. There were also wings, chicken nachos, and pig in a blanket we ordered as shareables. Time went quickly since we only had an hour with 8 people. We sat in the den to talk about our year and upcoming holiday plans. We were wrapping up, and I wanted to see the upstairs area. SHOULD'VE STARTED AT THROW SOCIAL. As soon as the elevator hit the second floor, I could hear one of my favorite songs through the elevator door. I was on the dance floor in under a minute and stayed on there for 20 minutes straight. The ladies on my team said we'll make this a ladies' night out stop for sure.

Came to write specifically about how incredible Mary Jane's service was. She is top-tier. Also, her recommendation to combine Old Bay and Mambo sauce on the wings turned out quite well. Some of the food arrived late for our party, but Mary Jane did a great job of keeping us updated. Great vibe! Highly recommend. (Did not do axe throwing. Our crew just got food and drinks).

I will start by saying the atmosphere is super cute at this place! Unfortunately, that’s the only thing I can compliment… We called the night before to make a reservation since we have a gift card and you cannot redeem the gift card online on the scheduling website… That’s the first problem. We were told that we could just walk in even on a Saturday night and the longest wait we would have would be about 30 minutes. We were offered to somehow make a reservation payment over the phone, but we’re told that it was really not necessary so we did not. Showed up on the night that we called about and the computer systems were down… No big deal things happen but we waited about 10 minutes while listening to two employees talk about who was going to tell us that the place was booked for a corporate event and we weren’t going to be able to play by the time the event started. They eventually told us that they weren’t accepting walk-ins and told us to come back another time… they did not offer to make a reservation for us. We were not offered a complementary beverage or appetizer or anything… And to top it off, we lost money by going there because we had to pay for the public parking garage and this business does not validate parking nor do they have their own. Drove 45 minutes each direction and barely got a “sorry”. Disappointed by lack of customer service.

Amazing place to get together with friends. We did a veterans event. They have 10% for military. Make sure to check out both downstairs and upstairs. Didn't get any food. The drinks were way small for a lot of money but a cool spot. I got a axe bullseye. Will def go back! They do have some early happy hours but missed those.

We celebrated my friend's birthday at Kick Axe Throw, and it was such a fun group experience! This was our first time trying axe throwing, and the vibes were definitely on point. Our axe pro, JJ, made the experience unforgettable with his energy and guidance. We loved having a dedicated axe pro to train us and check in throughout our session--it made us feel confident and safe. A highlight of the night was the 'birthday axe' JJ brought out for the birthday queen--it was such a special touch! If you're looking for a unique and exciting way to celebrate, this is definitely worth trying!

Kai gave an amazing tutorial. I became an amazing axe thrower after her tutorial. Great place too.

Brought my husband here and had a great time. I loved the way the space was set up. Noble assisted us with everything and gave thorough instructions on how to do everything. I didn't order any food or drink. As a first time "axe thrower" I struggled at first but got the hang of it. I had a lot of fun and will definitely be back. Note: street parking wasn't hard and there is a garage.

JJ was full of energy, he was attentive, and hilarious might I add. He made my experience amazing. Def coming back and requesting him.

I had such a blast at Kick Axe Throwing!! There is so much versatility in the space and a whole range of options of things to do!! There's giant Jenga, a bunch of board games, giant Connect 4, a bar with a host of fantastic cocktails to choose from plus so so much more. The music was also really on point and had me adding a bunch of songs to my playlist!! Of course, there is the axe throwing... Which I 10/10 would recommend doing. We made a reservation on the same day, and were lucky there were slots available!! Before starting we got a 5-10 min tutorial on safety rules and technique with throwing the axe , which helped A LOT & also made me super comfortable. I liked the energy a lot -- there were a good range of birthdays being celebrated, dates happening, friends hanging out... It was an all round great vibe!! I'm looking forward to going back and maybe grabbing some drinks, food, and playing some jumbo Jenga!!!

It was fun you just got to be able to throw the axe n follow the rules it's nothing to hard if u can't pick up the axe ask for the smaller one its way lighter and make sure u have fun its a lot more over there to enjoy but remember close toe shoes it was our mistake !

A buddy visiting wanted to do something unique - he did the research and recommended ax throwing...is it a thing? Yup, it is and it's a fun thing, actually DC Ax Project makes it an awesome thing. I remembered watching ax throwing on ESPN and the pros made it look so easy...well they are pros for reason, it's not as easy as it seems, but after a few rounds of practice, it's not too bad and it's fun. The best part? A bar + food are available on premises making it a better experience! We signed up online for a timeslot and fortunately, it was week night and not crowded. Not to worry, there are two floors of fun that would be filled to capacity during busy times. When you enter the premises, check in and sign the waiver online. An employee will take you to your booth and give you a safety briefing on how to throw the ax - pay attention to the instructions on how to throw the ax, take a few practice throws and have fun! During the rounds, stop by the bar for some beer (or other libations) - unfortunately, when we visited, some of the beers on tap were empty...fortunately, can beers filled in. In addition to the bar, there is a kitchen serving decent bar food. We ordered tacos - they were good + beer + ax throwing made it a fun evening. Located in the Northeast part of DC, a mix of industrial and commercial area - street parking may be available, but if not, there is a garage close by. Would I visit again? Definitely! A fun time.

We had a business team outing here after a conference and everything was incredible! It was so easy working with Marchela and everyone at ThrowSocial! The food was great and the environment was amazing. I would recommend coming back on personal time and even doing this again! Thanks again!

This is my first time trying ax throwing.. I thought it was interesting that it was right next to throw social which is another ax throwing place. Anyway I'm glad that I got to try it but I found it a bit of a boring experience kind of like heavy duty darts which also can get boring after some period of time I'm not sure that this is a business model that is sustainable because honestly it's just built on Ax throwing and a bar and they also have some other types of games like Yahtzee and Kinect for if you are bored but honestly I think this is one of those itches I had to scratch. There is parking on the street which is free in this part of town which is ivy City part of Washington DC If you're in the area shouldn't have any trouble with finding it and there is a heavy police presence so I would say it's a pretty reasonably safe area. Service was okay no major issues. We did order some nachos which took forever to arrive. They also seem to be out of a lot of things. If you're looking to try some ax throwing I don't think you can go wrong here.

I've been here twice now the first time I was downstairs throwing axes with my cousin. That is a job well learned lol it was a lot of fun and kind of warm and we went beginning of February so if you wrap up, make sure whatever you have on underneath is like a T-shirt or something. Second time I went I was with a group of friends upstairs in the game area. We had a table and then I decided to get a canopy or whatever you call it and we had a ball. A band came on. It was an overall good time both times.

This is nothing more than a boring, cash grab . We came for a work event and were all unimpressed. The music didn't work. There was a loud, uncomfortable sound coming from the speaker that management couldn't turn off. They got rid of happy hour so the drinks are $15 for a very small cup, and our host Alejandro was very rude. Alejandro's attitude was very distasteful. We first asked about Happy hour and the menu and his response was "I don't know anything about that" Hmmm, as an employee not knowing about your company is very telling. He asked if we needed anything later on and we told him the sound was disturbing. He then proceeded to say "okay well there's nothing I can do about that. I don't have the power to change that so" . Needless to say, my company and I will not return to this place. The waitress was nice, didn't catch her name but she had really nice reddish-brown hair . The two stars are for her only. There are better axe places out there.

Our instructor JJ was amazing! My family went and had a great time. Would recommend to everyone!

Should an impromptu quest to bring a piece of magical gold jewelry to Mordor take place, others can offer their sword, or their bow in assistance, but, now, I can confidently offer my axe! There were great axepectations, and we had an axe-citing time! The venue was axe-elent! The beer was steely cold. The instruction by Conrad was more than enough to come off like we knew what we were doing, to prevent an axe-ident.

Who knew axe throwing is so fun!? Kick Axe is easily one of my favorite places to go for a night out. Chill, laid back, decent food, music and of course, vibes. You'll need a reservation which can be done on their website. On a slow day (work day), you might luck up and have a spot to yourself. On the weekends, it's almost guaranteed you'll be axing with other folks. If you head upstairs, there's pinball? I think that's what it is. You're throwing a football at pins (bowling pins). While fun, I thought it was hard. Maybe because I'm vertically challenged and have no aim? Lol Anyway, definitely a great time. Bring friends or your date and have a good time!

A fun experience! I came with no reservations with a group of 8 coworkers. They were able to get us set up in a lane in about 15 minutes. After a quick explanation we off chucking axes at the board. I would not recommend the food, which was mediocre to bad. The drinks were fine but the bartender was friendly.

The axe throwing was great! Give Omar, our instructor, a raise! The drinks were good but the food could use work. It's a shame because if the food was a tad better I think this place could shine but the space is great and it's still a good time (just maybe eat after).

Food & drinks are delivered to your axe throwing stall. Awesome ambiance. Totally love the neon signs. Would definitely come back. There is a really cool game room upstairs with a DJ and different games.

Where do I start? My whole experience here was disgusting! My friend came all the way from Baltimore and I was super excited to show her this place and trauma-bond by throwing some axes. We arrived around 0740pm and was told they will be ready for us at 0900pm. Cool, we decided to get some drinks and food at the bar. Male Bartender ignores us for 15mins and keeps attending to other guests that came after us. I draw his attention to this and he gives us attitude and continue to ignore us. At this point, we realized he was just being an asshole and walked away to the female bartender who was sweet and assisted us immediately, the only positive part of our night. It's 9pm and our buzzer isn't buzzing so we walk to the lady and let her know that we have a 9pm scheduled, she tells me they are working on it and to give her a few minutes. I go back at 9:10 and she informs me they're fixing one of the sections for us and to give her 2 minutes. The whole time, she's calling other people. I go back at 9:15 and her story is that they're backed up and one of the sections is not working and she can't place us in a section that's not working. Okay, so why didn't ahe tell me this from the beginning and lied? At this point, we just asked for a refund and left. Never going back!

VERY FUN activity, whether it be for a date night or a girls' hang! I've done this activity for both and enjoyed my time each time! The axe throwing experts are fairly attentive and motivated to helping you enjoy your experience. They offer great tips and instructions for you to get a bullseye, or at least hit the board lol. The food was okay, regular bar fare and the waitstaff could've been more attentive as I had only seen my waiter once to place an order. Other than that minor issue, I highly recommend this place for something new and fun to try!

Hey my guy JJ is like that. Request that man!! For anyone new, he's helpful. For anyone who's a veteran, he helpful. So moral of the story, he's helpful.

Extremely slow bar service, even with only a few customers and three bartenders and a bar back. Why? Not sure. All three seemed to be more interested in talking with each other than greeting and serving the guests. Maybe slow service at the bar is our penance for having a great axe throwing experience. Alex took great care of us, taught us how to throw, and checked on us several times to make sure we were having fun. Get him behind the bar and you'd definitely see the review ratings go up!

It was great! I love Kick Axe. It feels like I'm going to go visit cousins. Jerome (JJ) was our guide and he did an amazing job so ask for him if you can!

The food and service top notch. This a a great place for a active date night or a girls' night out. The axe throwing was really fun. They start you out with a coach who trains you on how to properly throw the axe as well as the safety practices to follow. I had a phenomenal drink from the lodge bar. The first drink I ordered wasn't quite sweet enough for my taste and the bartender gladly tweaked it to my liking. Upstairs is the Miami Beach themed area. Great music with a DJ, games, food, and a deck with another bar. I'm definitely putting this place in rotation! The staff and management team were friendly and welcoming.

Date night here was different than the normal dinner and movies. We decided to throw axes instead and here we are placed in a lane along with another couple to their lane (much like bowling). Alone time is not for this activity but the pre-game or post-game is when that can happen. The bar had been lacking of items but none too concerning. Eat dinner elsewhere - bar food is exactly all they serve and it wasn't the greatest. We had wings which were subpar but don't bother with the pretzel which was dry and burnt. Service was a bit shaky as we had to ask for our order a couple of times. The wait at the bar was a bit time consuming as well. It may be different at other times because we did go on a Saturday night. Anyhow our trainer did show us the techniques and explained the game but did not stay to enforce any rules or to help the game come along as we had seen some others do. Our trainer did let us in on the upstairs bar area Throw Social DC which had a live gogo band CCB that night and an area to enjoy a beer pong game along with cabanas for rent. Not a bad social spot! About $150 date night including to play, eat lightly and drinks. We will come again but with our bellies full next time.

Researched a few different axe throwing places for my friend's 30th birthday and settled on Kick Axe - mostly based on the atmosphere, which is log cabin themed downstairs but almost like a poppin' club upstairs. We started off with our axe throwing appointment and had a personal instructor for our lane/bay who walked us through the basics on throwing and the 3 games/challenges. I liked this level of instruction that was also pretty hands-off. The food was okay lol. But that's not really what we came here for. Once our reservation was over, we headed upstairs to check it out. I thought it looked so fun! There are more games (I think there was giant jenga and maybe another), fancy-looking kabana areas, and also a DJ playing with an area to dance (this was on a Saturday night btw). Would definitely come back and recommend for parties and events (even business retreats).

We had an absolute blast! they were able to accommodate our last participant even with the late arrival due to DMV traffic. Dee helped us out with our multi-person check out and was so wonderful. Will definitely be coming back!!!!

Yesterday, we took the kiddos to Kick Axe Throwing for some fun! It's on the first floor of the throw social building. It's located in Ivy City. Our appointment was at 1230pm. We arrived a little arrival for instructions, sign the waiver, and to get settled. Masks were not enforced. But, you have to wear closed toe shoes for safety. I didn't have any so I was able to get a pair of crocs. "H" was out attendant. He did a great job at explaining safety procedures and how to be successful in using the ax. We did an hour of play. I would come back for adult night or date night. It's a Beautiful location. It's great place for pictures Parking in the garage was free if you are there under 90 mins.

Kevin was a very great host. The wings were awesome. Bartenders made very good signature drinks.

The place is big and interesting. It was the first time I had done axe throwing and I made a reservation for date night with my husband. The food and beverage options are good and tasty. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is fun and lively. It looks like a great place to celebrate a birthday or fun event.

The minute you walk in (actually even before), you get the feeling the owners/operators really put some time into designing this place. It is quite simply the most "instagrammable" place I've been to in a year. The furniture is a combination of pop/lumberjack/rave/neon sign homage. The bar is large and ample. The bays for each set of targets are comfortable and filled with kitschy signage. I made a reservation on the 4th of July for my family (me, wife, 15 and 17 year olds) and two adult friends. We. Had. A. Blast. Our instructor, Rob, was extremely chill, and very patient with us. We lucked out since literally no one else was in the establishment (and you have to spend a little time exploring Ivy City and its amazing restaurants, cideries, brewery, and coffee spots). And did I mention throwing an axe is a blast? It was. Our sons loved it, and I was very pleased with the safety steps the facility takes to ensure that everyone leaves with the same number of digits they came in with. I will definitely recommend this place (and plan on bringing friends and family here for a long time.)

SLOWEST BARTENDERS in the city. I don't understand why every time I'm here it takes 15 minutes to get a drink even when the bar is empty. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. WHY? Otherwise the food and drinks are great

My party and I really enjoyed axe throwing and the ambience of the place this past Saturday. Additionally, the axe throwing instructor was wonderful and knowledgable(Alexandro). However, we were disappointed in the service because it took over an hour to order and get our food and drinks because there was only 1 server. by the time food and drinks arrived our axe throwing session was over. With the amount of money I paid for a party of 8, I expected better service. Overall, I would recommend Kick axe because it's a unique experience to be enjoyed with good company, but be ready for slow service.

If you're looking for a place to host a corporate team event, look no farther! Kick Axe Throwing is a place you want to be. From start to finish everyone that I worked with (especially Colleen) made this unforgettable evening. Food and drinks were delicious, service was top-notch and ask doing was a great stress relief for many of my coworkers. Do yourself a favor and check out kick at Sterling, you won't be disappointed!

This place took my axe throwing virginity and WOW I'm hooked! It is genuinely such a fun group activity. Also can be pretty competitive. It's harder than it looks, but with a little practice you can master it. The Axe Pros are really helpful and fun too. If you're planning to go, be sure to wear close toed shoes, otherwise you'll have to borrow some of the crocs they have on hand.

This place was such a fun time. You can go for just the girls or on a date. The place itself is super cute. The bartenders are really nice and helpful. The staff in general are. The people explain everything really well when time to throw and go over safety issues. The food and drinks were bomb! We had such a good time. By the time we left we were litt so much fun !

It's something different to do. The axe bounces off a lot. The guys who help you are great and nice. We couldn't get the bar tenders to wait on any of us. Also when we ordered from the servers it took forever and we were hungry. I am glad we went once but not sure if we would go again. The pretzels were good. The tacos too bland.

This was my first time back to axe throwing in YEARS. Did the place move? When I did Kick Axe like 4 years ago the place was just a generic warehouse without anything as cool and classy as I saw this time around. There are a bunch of cool signs to take pics with and the vibe is just... well, cabin-ish is a good way to describe it. My friends and I sat at the bar area while one of us checked in and signed up for axe throwing. We had about an hour to kill, so we got drinks and food. I got the hummus, because I love trying different places' recipes. It was served with cucumbers and bread -- both which complimented it well. The hummus was indeed a little saltier than I typically prefer, but delicious nonetheless. I got the blueberry margarita and a glass of Urban Winery Riesling. Their happy hour prices are $7 wines, $10 specialty cocktails and some discounted apps. That was definitely one of the best flavored margaritas I ever had. The Riesling was tasty too, but the marg shined. When it was time to go throw axes, we were signaled for which targets to go to, and we were allowed to bring our food and drinks. I said it back then, but I STILL think it's a dangerous combination to be able to drink and throw axes under one roof. Anyways, Omar gave us instructions on how to throw, where to stand, etc. and I picked it up faster than I thought I would. Muscle memory I guess! I lost count of the bullseyes I got, but I sadly couldn't get my single arm throws back, grrrr. Given how many parties he was checking on, Omar was generous and was always willing to give us tips. There are also some lounge areas nearby with board games, tic tac toe and such. The place is a vibe, seriously. And with Throw Social right upstairs, there's definitely something for everybody. Great place!

From the Axe trowing experience.....to the overall vibe, atmosphere, the service, food & drinks...."EVERYTHING" was on point. Kick Axe Throwing offers up a unique experience and so much fun all under one roof! Everything was great from start to finish! We got here at the time of our reservation and were quickly escorted to our axe throwing area. The staff member showing us how to throw axes was professional and friendly. He was good at teaching us how to throw correctly and would give us tips/tricks when needed! The venue is huge and sort like transports you into a modern-like lodge vibe....with lots of chill, lounge spaces, neon lit coves, and fireplace seating. The menu and eats here is mostly bar food, and quick eats...like wings, pizza and sliders to name a few. And, everything I tried was a Thumbs Up! For those not interested in "getting your frustration out with an axe," there's plenty other activities and things to do here....from playing some interesting board games, catching up on your sport/games for the night on many flat panel TV's around the place....to a totally whole-nother vibe upstairs that takes on an outdoor beer-garden feel....all in doors! Yes! There's even an upstairs spot called "Throw Social" in the upstairs portion of this venue that offers up live concerts, a DJ spinning and dance floor, indoor "throw football" bowling...which was really cool...different, so much fun....and lots of chill lounge/cabana spaces to just relax and take it all in. Definitely, not a dull moment in this place. In all, lot's of fun! A great way to decompress from the work week and enjoy a time well spent with friends, family or to go on a date night! I definitely got some frustrations out...and kick some "Axxxe!" Will definitely be back! * Yelp Elite Insider Tip: Parking is limited around the venue.
