10 Classic, Old-School BurgerJoints In Seattle, Ranked - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Sure, this purple- and yellow-painted corner spot is steeped in history dating back to 1975. But it’s also steeped in mediocrity. Essentially, you’re here to eat stadium-level stuff without any of the actual fun that accompanies a trip to T-Mobile Park. Burgers are dry and bland, and oily onion rings shed shards of batter like a molting snake. The only real saving grace is the fish and chips, which pleasantly hold their own on a menu full of yawns." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

And yet, that's what happens here when the thin, flavorless batter flakes off when you pick up a ring. Enjoy your big fat onion, we guess. photo credit: Nate Watters Fish & Chips Not bad, Kidd Valley. Not bad. Not great, either—but definitely not bad. The fish is moist, flaky, and tastes nice with a swipe of tartar. photo credit: Nate Watters" - Aimee Rizzo

Google
Crunchy onion rings and solid burger. Nothing special or fancy, but fresh and made with love. $7.50 for a 1/4 lb. burger and $4-something for fries. Onion rings made with Walla Walla onions, they were the highlight. Iconic Seattle establishment. Tartar sauce was excellent, very pickley

Google
Friendly but slow service. Burgers are good and the mocha shake is really tasty.

Google
I had a burger, onion rings, and chicken strips with fries. Burger was fresh with lots of lettuce which I like. Onion rings were fantastic! Chicken strips and fries were good. Took one star off because the burger is a bit pricey, but we enjoyed everything.

It's my wife and I's first time ordering at this Kidd Valley restaurant. Parking is limited, and there’s a smell of urine right outside the door, but that’s probably due to the homeless at night time. Well, once we're inside it is clean, and the staff is friendly. I like the big lettering on the menu on the wall, which makes it easy to read and order from that. My wife and I love the mushroom burgers, and the food is fresh from the grill. We love the Kidd Valley’s food.

Google
Fast, fresh, delicious. This is the first time I have ever eaten at kidd valley but I will be sure to come back for more of their deliveries fast food options. Side samples are simple but quite good, the fried mushrooms are juicy and fresh and the onions are fired just right so the inside is soft and easy to eat but the crust is still crunchy and flavorful.

Google
So I had some time to kill to let traffic die down so I stopped at Kidd Valley. The lady there was really nice and she made the strawberry (that actually has chunks of strawberries in it) shake before the receipt had even printed. I ordered garlic fries, and they aren't messing around. I figured they would just sprinkle some garlic powder/salt on the fries, but they dumped at least an ounce of minced garlic on the fries. I'm definitely not going to have to worry about vampires, or mosquitoes, for a day or two. All of this wouldn't matter if the burger wasn't good, and it wasn't. It was great! I'm definitely going to have to go to my local Kidd Valley and I hope it's as good as this one is!

Google
In town for my daughter's surgery, arrived less than 10min after opening. Parking was quite limited, as is the way in todays delivery world. I ordered double bacon cheeseburger, and was not disappointed at all. It was firm and flavorful, old world style grilled burger patties, and each ingredient on the burger was perfect for my tastes. The onion rings were large and crispy, batter was chunky and flavor maxed. All so delicious. The staff was very friendly, attentive and polite.

M Edwards

Google
Very friendly customer service. Chicken strips were pretty decent, however burger meat quality not so great. A majority of their food is frozen and then fried. Fresh ingredients would take this place up notch but it’s on par for fast food.

Yelp
We're regulars here, & every time, it's 5! Friendly & efficient staff, clean facilities, & above all, GREAT FOOD!!! This evening (a Saturday in July) we had: a bleu cheese bacon burger, a regular bacon burger, garlic fries, & onion rings. All were delicious. The rings were perfection! Crispy & sweet, & the onions didn't slide out of the breading (yay). The burgers had that wonderful grilled flavor, just scrumptious! We were going to get soft serve cones, but were too full. (Next time!) - I admit we were also a little cold from the A/C; I was glad I had a sweater! They currently have a blackberry shake which I think I'm gonna have to go back for SOON! Parking is a little tight: 3 regular & 1 handicapped space on one side, & I think just 3 spaces on the other side. But there is some street parking too. - It's worth it! Btw, they have some really tasty fish & chips, & it's the cheapest in town!! Plus they play great music from the 50s thru the 90s, which we REALLY ENJOY!! Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Staff was very friendly, and I appreciate that. My burger was ok, but we ordered the sampler with onion rings and mushrooms, and the breading was soft and greasy not crispy at all. I ordered a Coke, and it was not available in fountain, so I went with the Dr. Pepper, and it was a little flat and therefore too sweet, as though something was off with their carbonation. I've always liked Kidd Valley, but the quality isn't what it used to be.

Yelp
Happy to see the neighborhood burgers and seafood joint still going!strong Fresh fish and ingredients hand pressed fries. Cashier was attentive and friendly and old school music added to the historical ambience for me.
google avatar

Yelp
The burger was huge and the fries were cooked just right. I had it delivered to my work and they came sooner than I thought they were, which was also great. So, excellent service.

Yelp
Not a bad place to get a quick burger, obviously going to be a little better than big fast food chains in the city. I ordered their Bacon Cheeseburger which was pretty standard to most burgers I've had, so it was good. The Side Sampler I ordered came with onion rings and these little fried balls. Those were just okay, kind of dry when I tried them. Service is usually friendly, the lady that works front register is attentive and charismatic when I have came here a few times.

Yelp
What do I love about Kidd Valley? [aside from everything?]. You know what you're going to get and you're going to get it in quality and quantity. There's nothing super fancy about Kidd Valley, but if you're in the mood for a great burger or fish or chicken sandwich with tasty O-Rings or mushrooms, Kidd Valley is the place to get it. Maybe get a shake too while you're there. On the drive back from a recent road trip we were in the mood for some KV. [Apparently they're owned by the same people who own Ivars? Who knew?!]. Anyway, we had the Firehouse Club and the Fish sandwich. They were big and tasty. I was particularly impressed with the size of the Fish Sandwich. The firehouse club even had a good 'cheese pull'! We also had the side sampler which was half onion rings and half mushrooms. Food came out hot and fresh, workers were kind and efficient, dining area was clean. ALL GOOD!

Yelp
I've been going to Kidd Valley since I was a Kidd. It has always been delicious and consistent. Got a bacon cheeseburger and mushrooms. So delicious!

Yelp
ordered 2 burgers for 30.00 which is to be expected. We specifically asked if there was any egg or dairy sauce in the burgers . They said no. after walking 3 levels to the club seats and opening the burgers that were oozing with white ranch mixed with the mustard dripping out of the burgers: We tired to get a refund and were told not with hit a receipt which we were not given. The burgers weee still unopened and in the bag. This no refi d and no new burgers. As if the burgers aren' mediocre at best on a good day.
google avatar

Angelica K.

Yelp
Their website promotes a vegan burger yet it's not at this location. The garden burger patty has cheese in the patty. After being told they from the staff I cancelled the garden burger I ordered and opted just fries. The service seemed a little confused and slower. We received our fries cold and tasted a bit stale. It's a bum that the options aren't the same across locations.

Yelp
Chocolate milkshake was amazing!!! Super quick from ordering to getting our drinks. Will definitely be going back!!

Yelp
Good old fashion 'Foster's' burger, Onion rings are really good. Service was kind and brought the food to us. Clean but not emoting employees
google avatar

Robert W.

Yelp
Food was fresh and I highly recommend the Walla Walla onion rings. Deep fried mushrooms also the excellent! Food is prepared as ordered and well worth the wait. Tartar sauce is made in house and is great with the mushrooms or onion rings Thanks Dawn for your assistance!

Yelp
Hey you kerazy Kids! You may be wondering why would such a critic give this place 4 stars. Well let me start with it sure ain't for the food. I will say the food is solid, it's not the best burger ever but a solid performance. For you youngins that are wearing late 90's early 00 clothes and want to know what it felt like to be around at that time I present to you Kid Valley. A literal Seattle Time capsule. The burgers are as innovative as Burger King. Just like back then when BK was pushing how good they were because they were char/flame broiled. For the money how is it Seattle to spend money at a large chain when you have local chains offering the same experience. The decor - it's like they hired the B-52 to design the whole place Parking - well at least they have some Service - they bring the good to your table. So that's cool Music - fits the decor any way if you want to know what is was like when your clothes were new, have a burger here.

Yelp
Got the firehouse Chicken Club and it was quite tasty for a fast food chicken sandwich. Plenty of bacon which was spiced with jalapeños and great flavor. I do think it was quite pricey for fast food but great quality and quantity! Check it out if you are in the area and in need of some quick food!
google avatar

Yelp
Had their fish and chips.... fantastic ! Their milkshakes are great too ! The gal who took my order was genuinely nice. And fast. And was just a breath of fresh air, compared to most people these days... it made the whole experience quite pleasant and I can't wait to go back.... I know that the chain of Kidd Valleys' has shrunk over the years unfortunately, and I really miss the "girl sitting on the burger" sign.... Kidd Valley should open a location down south, like Kent, or Federal Way (think Dick's) then I could go weekly....

Arnold M.

Yelp
What can I say about Kidd Valley except what a great cheeseburger tasty fresh and cooked perfectly. Let's not for about the chocolate milkshake which is a tasty treat! The only young lady working the front did a Greyjoy on milkshakes and customers orders what a true trooper! Kidd Valley is just that a great place to get a nostalgic great tasting burger the inside is of the time lost era.

Yelp
4.5 stars. We ordered online for pick up. Got a cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger, fries and a banana milkshake. All were delicious! Every burger comes with lettuce, tomato and KD sauce. Adding onions (grilled or raw) was not any extra charge. The lettuce was shredded, which was nice and different than a leaf you'd get at other burger places. KD sauce is also more like a thousand island - note there is relish in it. The bacon burger was NOT jipped on the bacon - at least 4-5 half strips - so that was awesome!! Milkshake was made fresh as I collected the order. Banana pudding like flavoring and very tasty. Only wished the fries were cooked more...they weren't that crispy or cooked through. Kinda like sorta cooked floppy potato sticks. Everyone who gave negative reviews must be super picky or must be trippin' cause I would definitely return and look forward to do so!

Yelp
For the ppl like me who have to see the picture before ordering, this is one photogenic burger baby!

Yelp
Stopped in on a recommendation and had a pretty good meal! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very courteous and helpful. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, substituted my fries with the side sampler (onion rings and fried mushrooms) and a medium chocolate shake. Altogether my meal broke down to about $13 and it's a good value for the amount of food that I got. The burger came with a good beef patty, several strips of bacon, crisp lettuce and fresh tomatoes. The sampler was fun because I got to try the onion rings and also the fried mushrooms (which are actually really good with the tartar sauce). The chocolate shake was super thick and tasted fresh but also tasted like it was made with Hersheys chocolate syrup if that's your thing. In addition I also ordered a peanut butter milkshake which actually I really liked more than a chocolate because it tasted like Reeses peanut butter. Overall I'd give this place two thumbs up and recommend trying it if you're looking for just some good diner style hamburgers with fries and a milkshake.

Bruce B.

Yelp
The hamburgers are never frozen. Kidd Valley is a 10 compared to 4 at Dicks. I don't understand the infatuation with soggy buns and limp fries. KV onion rings are the best.
google avatar

Doris W.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick lunch Saturday. I would say Kidd Valley's menu is comparable to Red Mill/Five Guys. With me liking Red Mill the best. They have a lot of options for burgers, shakes, and sides though. We ordered: - Mushroom Burger - Sweet Potato Fries - Bacon Burger - Garlic Fries I am a fan of garlic fries, that is why Cody ordered them cuz he knew I liked them. But we were both not a huge fan of kid Valley's garlic fries. The sweet potato fries were on point though! I also wish I had observed they uses shredded lettuce here, which I am not a fan. I opened my burger and dumped all the shredded lettuce out before I ate it. Overall it's an ok burger place for a quick meal.

Jessica J.

Yelp
Lets just say the mushroom burger got me again I got a punch card this is the best burger! made by Saul served by Rosa who keeps the place clean and inviting. This is freshly made and the mushrooms are sautéd adds so much umami. the lettuce tomatoes crisp and fresh it's good to the very last. I would order the onions rings and fried mushrooms too as a snack next time as I get stuffed on the burger.
google avatar

Ginny C.

Yelp
Solid. Burger. Place. It takes awhile to cook but you have to understand, good things take time! So fresh... I got the bacon cheese burger and it was delicious. The buns were toasted, the patty was flavorful, and the lettuce was shredded. The onion rings were crispy and the batter was thin. It was a great meal. I will be back!
google avatar

Trisha F.

Yelp
Kidd Valley doesn't impress me, but I will freely admit that I am not a huge fan of hamburgers. They all kind of taste the same, and I'd pick one grilled at home before going out for one of these any day. The garlic fries are no lie-- huge pile of diced garlic on top, well-seasoned. I can't decide if I love them or hate them, strangely... They were weird with ketchup and hard to eat (opt for a fork). Their sweet potato fries aren't as good as others I've had, either. Too mushy. Parking lot is really awkward, usually decent turn-around time. Plenty of seating, even has a few outdoor tables.
google avatar

Zachary H.

Yelp
I have been here twice and both times I have enjoyed my chicken sandwich and burger. The option of getting a mini burger is also a good thing in my opinion as it allows you to get another little bit of food without having to commit to another full burger. The smoothies here are tasty as well. The sandwiches are good but they don't really have the customization levels that you could find at Five Guys for just a bit more money. The ambiance is nostalgic; an old timey diner/burger joint. It's a good vibe. Service is fast, but not as fast as a Burger King or McDonald's. This is probably due to them actually making the burgers in the back. It's not the best sandwich I've ever had, but I'd still recommend it.

Michelle L.

Yelp
We ordered online for pick-up and food was ready at the time requested. Tonight was our final visit- 3 uncooked, pink burgers, flattened burger buns- two buns burnt on the outside - and an order of burnt sweet potato fries. The University location has steadily declined in quality the last 2 years. Wasn't that busy so not sure why so bad. Check the meat closely before you eat here.
google avatar

Tom J.

Yelp
Underrated! 5 stars for the shakes, fried mushrooms and onion rings! For fast food, Kidd Valley always hits the spot. This location has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid because of its proximity to green lake, awesome booth seating, and huge windows.
google avatar

Elizabeth F.

Yelp
I keep wanting to like this place more. Every time we go here, there seems to be a problem with our order. Last time I was here, we ended up leaving because the employee started arguing about other orders while taking our order. Seemed unnecessary and like something that could've happened on the back instead of in front of customers. They do have great milkshakes. Their banana milkshake is so good.
google avatar

Jamie E.

Yelp
Staff seemed very friendly and helpful, but the location seems somewhat understaffed. This was reinforced by the sad state of the bathroom's trash overflowing abundantly onto much of the floor, and absolutely zero paper in both sides of the TP dispenser. And graffiti on the paper towel dispenser. BUT, my garden burger was cooked perfectly and the tomato, pickle slices and lettuce were fresh, crisp, and plentiful. The bun was soft, just the right thickness, and very lightly toasted. I wish the menu had mentioned that it wouldn't have any condiments except mayo, no flavorful ingredients other than the pickles (the tomatoes had great texture but no flavor). If I had known, I would have asked for mustard and onions. Despite the drawbacks today, I will still come back in the future when I am in the area. I just won't plan on using the restroom again.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Used chowtime.com to place our order and they gave it to someone else before we came at EXACTLY the right time. Picked a stressful day for us. Never again! Food is always good but they are at the bottom of the barrel with staff. So we had to wait 20 minutes that we didn't have. We ordered ahead for a REASON! Wjhat a shit show! No bueno.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
I'm amazed this place doesn't have more 5 star reviews. The hamburgers are fresh made and absolutely delicious. I can't recommend the place enough. The jalapeños are a great addition to the double bacon cheese. Great fries too.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
dryest philly cheesesteak i have ever eaten. floppy bun. bland, unsalted meat. soggy fries. go anywhere else
google avatar

Katya L.

Yelp
OM NOM NOM. I like my burgers greasy, salty and sizable, and Kidd Valley fits the bill. I've had the bacon cheeseburger and the bleu cheese burger and they are both quite tasty. The patty is always juicy and substantial, and the bun and toppings are spot-on. Be warned, though - the bleu cheese burger is quite salty. I love salt so much that I could probably eat a salt lick at times, but I know that not everyone is that insane. The garlic fries are delicious - just make sure you don't have a date that night. Or in the next week. Or if there's someone you want to deter from hitting on you ever again, take them here and share the garlic fries. The service has always been courteous, and the guys behind the counter have even given us back coupons so we could re-use them or gave us condiments for free (usually they charge five cents or something silly). Burgerdate heaven.
google avatar

Ninja S.

Yelp
The burgers are pretty seriously massive. Better, though more expensive, than Dick's. http://www.yelp.com/biz/lcjPofDCFb4LWeviUqsKCA Different than Red Mill. http://www.yelp.com/biz/aSh2Nz2WoQn6m8g256OxcA Kinda like Zak's http://www.yelp.com/biz/aRqQWklACwVbeRFyjuOwfg Heard a lot of hoopla about this place, so I thought that I'd have a nice little walk to counteract all of the burger death that I would be ingesting. I flirted with the burgerzilla manning the counter. Said that it was my first time and I was a little shy. So she suggested everything and was surprised when I said "oh. okay. lets do it." So there was mocha shake, there was juicy fried mushrooms (in ..sawdust batter?), onion rings (blehh), fries (ho hum), and the formentioned freakin' massive burgers. Naturally this was all served with tartar (like everything in Seattle) and ketchup (for an extra charge of course) I and my partner in this beefy carnage could not put away all of it, so we got a bovinebag to go to put our assortment of leftover fried foods. I'm giving it 4 stars because I gave Red Mill 4 stars for some reason, and they're basically the same place only Kidd Valley has more interesting stuff on the walls. They had a Miss Burger pinup poster made in 2001. I asked "hasn't there been another since 2001?" Answer: no. What the world needs now, is another 2007 Kidd Valley Miss Burger. Bring on the hot pants and compromising positions!

Yelp
Got wrong order, and crappy food won't be going back , very disappointed it use to be good
google avatar

Kristen L.

Yelp
Just stopped in for lunch and got the bacon burger with fries for a little over $8. Burger was great; good sauce and the meat and other ingredients tasted fresh. Fries were just OK. They seemed under seasoned, so you'll need to add some salt. You can also get discounted ivars gift cards (20% off) at costco which can be used at Kidd Valley.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
So, I can't believe that I have not previously reviewed Kidd Valley! I've been going here to the various locations beginning in the mid-eighties. The service is always predictably solid and the food is good quality, in that sense, it is a very Ivars-like. There's a little flair on the menu, as deep fried mushrooms are good. Some of the flavors of shakes they offer are really good also. It's always clean and convenient, there's water and cups accessible which you don't find everywhere, and the bathrooms are easy access.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
For being a fast food chain this is mighty tasty. The service was excellent- the employees working had smiles on their face and you could tell they cared about the customers and the food they served. For being in a rough part of town the store was clean and well maintained. The prices are a bit to high but it is Seattle.... all in all a good dinner.

Van D.

Yelp
They did a good job enforcing their line outside. We ordered two chicken sandwiches and a hamburger and two garlic fries and one regular fry. The garlic fries were not good. Just normal fries with huge clumps of garlic thrown in. Not very appetizing. They also forgot my order of normal fries. I called them and they credited my account for the normal fries. Not impressed for 36 dollars for three people.

Chuck L.

Yelp
When the food is good and yet incomplete and missing items and the person who handed you your order tells your partner "they took the order before I had a chance to put drink in" is kind of bad at their job. Food: 3.7. Customer Service: .5 stars, half a star.

Michael M.

Yelp
Ordered our food, sat down and waited. Food was delivered with two orders of onion rings, I only ordered one, no tarter sauce that I ordered, with no beverages we ordered. I had to take the tray of food back up to the ordering area, and clear up the mistakes that were made. They tried to give me a Pina Calais Milk Shake that wasn't what I ordered. The fries and onion rings were not fresh or hot. The cheeseburger was good, but over priced for what we got. Overall, my wife and I had a bad experience at Kidd Valley Green Lake, and for the price, actually, we would of enjoyed our Burger Night at Dicks Drive In, at least we would of gone home with satisfaction.
google avatar

Edward S.

Yelp
Kidd Valley is classic burger place. I like the plain old hmburger with grilled onions. I think they stand out more for their sides. The onion rings are outstanding and then the garlic fries are an institution (something I get every Mariner's game), The shakes are very good also, nice and thick. Worth visiting.
google avatar

Laura B.

Yelp
Super friendly service and a delicious cheeseburger. I ordered the garlic fries and wow did they have a lot of garlic. I would've preferred a little less garlic and some ranch to dip them in, but hey, they were still delicious, all that aside!
google avatar

Jess M.

Yelp
The garlic fries are so tasty. I also love their fried mushrooms. The veggie burger is pretty decent for a fast food place. The staff is always very friendly.
google avatar

Bill D.

Yelp
I've been going to Kidd Valley ever since I could drive! 40 years ago! The reason I know that, is because when I turned 16 and got my own car, I would volunteer to go get Kidd Valley burgers for our family on any given night. The burgers are succulent, juicy and made to order - delicious! The onion rings are giant and the coating is thin and crispy and usually falls off the onion ring so you gotta eat 'em fast... And the selection of milkshakes is crazy. Butterscotch, banana, boysenberry, chocolate, vanilla or whatever! Consistently delicious! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Patrick B.

Yelp
A favorite of mine since I was a kid but their product quality seems to fluctuate. It may depend on who is doing the cooking. The ingredients are good quality and I used to think that 5 bucks for a burger was a little high but now days, even a Big Mac coats that or more so why not spend your money on food that's worth it. Service at this location was fast and friendly and they bring your food out to your table so that's a bonus. Their sweet potato fries are amazing and a welcome change from regular fries. Classically decorated and a warm atmosphere. Good good and good people. What more could you want?
google avatar

Katy H.

Yelp
I will never forgive myself for passing by this restaurant so many times before going in. The veggie burger was fantastic and transported me back to my meat eating days. The fries were hot, crispy, and fresh. The staff were very nice and the meal was very reasonably priced. Also, I give a special shoutout to the relish sauce. Can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
Very friendly staff! Great for baby to sit and smile at people. Juicy and delicious burger patty. Fun atmosphere! I got the mushroom burger and it was really good. My husband liked his so much that he got another one.

Clover L.

Yelp
Ah, Kid Valley. I miss your girl on the hamburger out front. And as much as she was a slightly poor representation of that style of art, she fit the place much better than the weird 'K man' holding out a burger in front of him in such a way that I'm sure he'll trip. But that being said, you treat me right, KV. I like that the sweet potato fries are now a permanent part of your menu, your regular fries are also delicious. I like that you have smaller portion sizes so I don't have to (but can) order a kid's meal. I like your burgers, they're good and flavorful without being too expensive, they're just above fast food, just below gourmet. I looooove that you have a grilled cheese sandwich option on the kids menu as sometimes, that is all the little one wants to eat. I love your chocolate malts, they are usually prepared just chocolatey and malty enough for my extreme need for c/m combo. I also love your secret shake. Sure, it's not really a secret if you have it on the wall but I still feel like I have some extra street cred knowing the special flavor. So it's not love, KV, but it's strong like.
