Miami’s 12 Best Dive Bars | Eater Miami

"The smaller counterpart to Lost Weekend on Española Way has a more rock n’ roll vibe and plenty of odd decorations. Plus, its happy hour runs daily from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. offering even more discounted beverages." - Olee Fowler

Kill Your Idol Review - South Beach - Miami - The Infatuation

"If you’re looking for a place to watch a drag queen do a flip off the bar and land in a straddle directly in front of your vodka soda, look no further than Kill Your Idol on a Friday night. With half-off drinks and performances all night by some pretty well-known drag queens like TV’s Trinity K. Bonet and Miami’s own Malaysia Babydoll Foxx, it’s one of the cooler experiences in South Beach. Centrally located right off Española Way, this place has events all week long too, from live bands to karaoke to watch parties for RuPaul’s Drag Race. As an added bonus, if you happen to need a break from the usually-packed, narrow space, you can pop on over to the adjoining Lost Weekend, a much bigger bar with some TVs and pool tables." - Isabel Maza

18 Best Bars in Miami | Condé Nast Traveler

"There are so many bars that recall the cocktail glory days of the roaring '20s, but Kill Your Idol has a very different sort of throwback appeal—something more akin to NYC's East Village punk rock scene of the 1970s and ‘80s. Fashionable in a counter-culture kind of way, the bar’s décor focuses on a statue of Bruce Lee, with a ’70s Playboy pinball machine that's a time warp if there ever was one. With its love of the offbeat and weekly lineup of events (Monday’s Drag Night is a big draw), Kill Your Idol is where Miamians go to escape the velvet ropes and bottle service that dominate South Beach." - Jennifer M. Wood

Google
Cool dive bar that had DJs and good music playing. Cool spot to hang out for a few drinks.

THE URBAN MIXOLOGIST

Google
It's a fun dive bar with pool tables, arcade games, and big TVs for the games. Reasonably priced drinks. And one side has more of a club lounge type vibe. Definitely a place to be casual let you hair down and relax with friends.

Google
We had such a great time! They had some great rock bands, and the place was packed. It was such a good vibe. The bartenders were fabulous. The drinks were delicious. They were pricey, but that's the norm on Miami Beach. Parking can be a challenge, but we will definitely be back!

Phat Girl Eats World

Google
If you are looking for a bar with a fun, playful, funky vibe. This is everywhere you want to be. A few friends & I stopped in here late during "Happy Hour". They had $3 beers! You really can't beat that. The decor is very eclectic! You will enjoy looking at everything. The band they had in that evening was absolutely great & kept the joint jumping. Definitely recommend a stop here!

Google
Entertaining dive bar with interesting decor. The Draft beer selection consisted of one offering which wasn't recommended. Service was friendly and a good selection of well drinks available.

Google
This place rocks when Just Gio is DJ/VJ-ing! I love how he hooks up TVs with the music videos, it really sets the vibe! The place itself is really cool, decorated all the way to the ceiling! Drinks are good and priced fairly - shout out to the bartenders!!!

Google
Love this bar! So chill and fun! Great music and even better drink prices! Everyone is welcome here. Honestly one of the best bars to go to in SoBe for drinks at a good price and the bartender Katie was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! she even remembered my name after order just one drink! She’s great!

Google
It was my first time arriving at this location. It was easy to find parking & it was very easy to access the location. The location very well maintained, very clean & professional services from the front security guard all the way to the bar tender. You will definitely hear great music. I recommend to all come out & have a great experience at Kill Your Idol. Kind regards, ~ Royce

Yelp
I had soooooo much fun here before I moved out of Miami. Drinks were on point, music was great and the drag show was super entertaining. Chatted up a few people at the bar and Karloz was quick with dishing out those drinks. When the music started pumping I couldn't help but hit the dance floor. A few folks jumped in and we cut up the floor for some line dancing. I surely will return when I am back in town.

Yelp
Haha, this was quite a surprisingly fun and cool place. We came on a pretty quiet evening but they told us a DJ would be playing at 10pm. The bartender told us from 8-10p, drinks are half off, whoa! The hard rock was playing and the decor above the bar will make you laugh (and maybe reminisce). They had an art installation in the bar (so cool that they do this!) when we were there. We weren't quite sure what kind of music the DJ would play, first it was very hard rock and the crowds started coming so more popular songs were played. People were dancing, drinking and having a good time. A full range of music from NIN, Nirvana, Mariah Carey, Shakira, etc was heard all evening! You could put requests in and it was honestly a really fun night! They keep the bar clean, always removing empty glasses, napkins and constantly moving to clear the bar and small tables. They have a water station at the end of the bar and really make sure it's always full. I'm very impressed with this place (it's connected to Lost Weekend but we never made it over since we were enjoying Kill Your Idol too much). We had a great time, thank you!

Yelp
Good music. Chill atmosphere. Cool bartenders. Dj.... No bougy. Legit bar. Plan on consuming alcohol. Can't go wrong.

Yelp
Don't know how this cockroach ended up on my husbands beer glass but it did. It was hanging out on the outside of his glass and we knocked it to the floor. Saturday night dj was not great.
google avatar

Bruenella W.

Yelp
Excellent drinks! We got in at happy hour 1/2 off everything Live music too & no cover Small, dark & very loud But fun environment Will definitely frequent again Cheapest drinks in Miami! Bartender was very personable too
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
Surprisingly expensive considering it's not much more than a small dive-y bar with a good sound system. Which might explain why it was mostly empty on a late Saturday night. But the vibe was cool with music that you don't find in many other places.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for the Friday drag show, which started around 10:45. The bar was small with lots of couch seating. They had half price drinks. They allowed smoking inside which was quite unpleasant for non-smokers. The drag show started off pretty low key as there wasn't a large crowd. One of the bar employees walked around with a bucket and solicited tips for the performers. It was fun but probably gets better later at night.

Yelp
This is the dive bar where all the locals go to. One side is a club with low drink prices and the other side is a pool bar that has great drink specials. The staff is attentive and quick and there's tons of games and dancing to here! Good for large groups

Yelp
Favorite DJ bar in MIA because it's chill and not pretentious. A must every time I'm by the beach.

Yelp
THIS BAR!! We went both nights while we were in Miami. My husband & I love dive bars with a chill vibe & this was just the place. Night one, the music is what drew us in! The DJ was awesome & we knew almost every song he played. The bartenders were friendly & service was great. We ended up going back for a second time & had even more fun. Switch waited on us & chatted with us about the bar & the fun nightly themes. Everyday of the week has something! Wednesday was ladies night & I got 4 free drink tickets which was even more of a plus. Switch made sure we were taken care of all night & even knew what drinks we wanted before we even ordered them! The prices are honestly are super reasonable for good drinks. There's also a little stripper pole upstairs if you're daring enough to try! 100/10 recommend popping in here if you're staying in Miami.

Yelp
What an incredible space to be in on a Thursday night!!! With Karloz behind the bar, you're certain to have a good time with their Happy Hour 8p-10p. With 50% off all drinks, what COULD go wrong?! Stick around and find out. Auntie Maim takes center stage and hosts a karaoke party that is EVERYTHING!

Yelp
OMG, so much fun! We had read about this place and decided to give it a try, great idea! The bartender was awesome not only was he tending to the bar but running the show as well, handing the mic over to the next performer and singing the introduction. What a voice, amazing and his energy was to die for. Drinks were perfect and the tater tots were out of this world served hot with different spices and sauces, just what you need when you are singing karaoke. It's a really cool comfortable vibe and adjacent is the pool hall which is really fun when your done singing. There were so many talented singers it was crazy we recognized a couple from the Drag Brunch we had attended so maybe they come there to try out new songs. They were awesome so entertaining. We will be visiting them again every night they offer different themes so check out their website and choose your favorite. Love this place and the area is really cool with all kinds of restaurants and shops. again the bartender was awesome I wish I had his name but he was blonde and fabulous.

Yelp
Y'all go with Taylor, super gooooood,. Next door fuxking sucks like a fraud, so don't fking go. All the facilities only take 1 dollar bill. They have atm but only have change for quarters, plus the take minimum 3.25 transaction fee for taking cash. And the bartender only allows you to change the quarters for f 5 dollars while treating you like shit.

Sofia G.

Yelp
Love this place! Super fun and amazing atmosphere! Great staff and amazing service! Love Dani he's amazing!!
google avatar

Yelp
Small club like bar. Nicely decorated. The music was too loud (dj - small dance floor) other than that it would be a nice cozy place to sit and have a conversation and drinks. Happy hour has 1/2 off drinks. Parking along the street. Beside Kill Your Idol is a pool hall/bar area that is a lot larger. Dogs are allowed.

Yelp
I am laughing at the women who had a bad experience on ladies night. Well, they are probably the ones who try to give their man their drink that's IN A RED CUP that's clearly a free drink FOR WOMEN ONLY! You freeloading wh***s mad about FREE cheap liquor?!?! Imagine them taking out ladies night and Y'all have to pay, because we know Y'all man isn't paying since you have to sneak him a free ladies drink to begin with.... ... now that that's out the way... this place is AWESOME! The only ppl with issues with this place are probably non locals who barely made it to 21 and mad they couldn't get over on the bartenders and door staff.
google avatar

Yelp
5 freakin stars!!! we were just walking the streets and immediately heard the music coming from this dive bar. The door man said happy hour until 10 pm and I have to say, it was the music that drew us in giving me major 80's vibes, but that happy hour you can never turn down, especially a reverse happy hour. Karlos (yes! Carlos but with a K) his energy was automatically giving me joy and happiness. You can tell He truly enjoyed his job. He inspired me honestly to continue my bartending career. I wanted to be just like him. By the way, he makes the best bloody Mary's!!! Drinks were cheap and the atmosphere was incredible. We had such an amazing time and it was just our first night in Miami. I'm definitely coming back before we leave. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
This hole in the wall is a unique music venue with a full service bar in the heart of Miami Beach. KYI is only a 2 minute walk to the beach. For being South Beach, I was taken back at the friendliness of the staff and the bar tender taking care of a lot of people with out a sweat or complaint. This venue is open late which makes it ideal for anyone that can't sleep any day during the week or anyone looking to good for drinks late any date of the week. Kill Your Idol doesn't not have your "Miami Beach" vibe. Do not expect half naked servers, birds flying above your heard, palm trees behind the bar, or valet parking; you will however find a lmk acoustic stage nestled under a screened projector desolating some of the best cartoons from the 80s-2000s. The food is fresh and from the kitchen next door at . is also a great venue with many pool tables and TVs to watch a game and have a couple of beers. Would recommend both establishments to friends and family that spend time in Miami Beach.

Yelp
I love Kill your Idol!!! How can you beat happy hour from 8 to 10 with great music and awesome entertainment? This is one of my go to spots when I come to Miami. I personally am not a big club girl and I prefer a bar experience with opportunity for dancing or just hanging out and the spot is perfect for all the above. They do drag shows, live rock music, burlesque shows, karaoke, you name it!! Karlos and the rest of the staff behind the bar are amazing and will always show you a good time. Can't wait to be back next time I'm in Miami :)

Yelp
Kill Your Idol is such a fun place! I used to go often years ago, and recently have some by on a Thursday and Friday night. Thursday was karaoke night with a drag Queen and it was such a great time! Super lively, great prices, and vibe in the bar. The bartenders are very friendly as well. Friday night was drag night and it was a lively night. I love their little upstairs area. Definitely a very cool bar to check out when I'm the South Beach area!
google avatar

Theo D.

Yelp
Absolutely smashing deal on the happy hour drinks and Karlos is the best bartender in Miami they got karaoke nights, drag nights and other events every night! Go and check it out, I promise you won't regret it so so fun~
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
We visited on a Monday night. Unfortunately the music wasn't what we expected, it was generic popular music and not the alternative we were after.
google avatar

Jerrod B.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this bar! Best spot in Miami we found during our stay. We actually went two nights in a row! We arrived on a Sunday night at opening. The bartender was friendly and conversational. She explained that there was a happy hour until 10pm where everything is half off! This is great considering drinks in Miami are pricey - even for us New Yorkers! On our second night we returned for Drag Mondays. Karloz was the bartender and immediately engaged us in conversation. Happy hour special was still applicable, but when it ended there was a $6 absolute, $5 shot, and $2 beer special. Awesome! I have to say, I was so impressed with Karloz - he worked the bar so efficiently and maintained his outgoing, welcoming attitude all night. If I lived in Miami I would most certainly be a regular at this bar. Great job!

Yelp
If I could give this place a 10 star rating I would. I love Kill Your Idol more than life itself. This place is a treasure in South Beach and I truly hope they never ever close. Every time I've been, I've been treated like a queen. The staff is so so nice, the bartenders are a dream (Karloz, I love you so much) and the vibes are immaculate. If you haven't been here, you're truly missing out on a amazing time.
google avatar

Yelp
What a fun & unique experience! Came here for karaoke on Thursday & can be here for hours! The ambiance was so fun, it felt like the place was filled with friends. The bartender was really cool & lively, he made sure to take care of everyone at the bar and even had time to grab the mike and sing along. Would recommend!

Yelp
This is a glorious dive style bar! Im not a "club" person so It was exactly what i wanted while in south beach. Half price happy hour! Go in and compliment the bartender Matt on his wrestlemania 7 shirt. He will be wearing it.

Yelp
So I went to this place prior to Covid and it was pretty cool. Tiny as can be but still cool. The night my cousin and I went was to see a band that I've been following, but was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have different bands playing sets. We had a couple of beers and fries and they were actually very good. I hope this place stays in business despite of all the closures :/ I don't know many places in the beach that host live bands.

Tiffany C.

Yelp
I had the most incredible time Saturday night. I don't know if I've seen a show put together like this before, the band was crazy! Playing on the furniture, the bar, and outside. The host in the flight suit was amazing, and the bartender was so nice! I 1000% recommend this place and will come back when I visit Miami again!

Sandy M.

Yelp
BEST BAR IN THE CITY! Non stop my fun... they have a stripper pole and my friend hopped up and even got us some free drinks

Danihela M.

Yelp
I am a Miami local and all I have to say is DO NOT COME HERE. This place is not what it use to be. It's very ratchet and they have people on the mic begging for money for a show they have going on. Exact words "These girls work hard for their money so don't stand around and not tip them, their make up and clothes are expensive." She was implying that to my friends and I and some others. Mind you, my girls and I had JUST got there and were watching the show for about five minutes. She came up to us and asked us in a rude way to tip. We don't have cash and she mentioned there's an ATM next door, ok great! Well a second later she's on the mic saying what I previously stated. So unprofessional and disgusting, we left. Now those "dancers" and bar lost customers, tips from three people, and regular cliental. After writing this I found out the rude girls name, it's Kayla.
google avatar

Yelp
This place rules!! Affordable drinks and the bartenders are cool as hell. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great little swanky bar in the beach. It is very very small so please keep that in mind. Though small it is cozy, they have couches along the wall and in front of the stage for people to relax on in addition to the bar stools. Wednesdays is every woman's favorite night! Ladies drink free! I've been here twice, the 2 times I've been here was following McFisty and I have not been disappointed. The bathrooms are decent and clean, there are 2 restrooms so you will have to wait in line. The bartenders are super fast and pleasant. The bouncer at the front door is a blast. They do offer food choices but I have not had the chance to order there yet. Drinks are cold and not expensive (when I'm not drinking free lol) there's a screen up top of the stage where music videos are being played. If you are on the beach and would like a nice little cozy bar with good music swing by, keep in mind everyday they have different acts not all are heavy metal bands like McFisty, if you like to drag they have those too, so much fun!
google avatar

Peter Z.

Yelp
This place is kind of a local joint for me and plays awesome music- (80's, 90's Y2K New Wave, Gothic, Industrial etc.,) Don't expect your top 40's or shit-hop at this place. I wish there were more of these places in South Beach. This place is right next door to a bar called Lost Weekend- which is a quasi-pool hall and sports bar mixed ? I really don't know how to describe that place. They also have a kitchen @ Lost, which will bring food over to Idol, which I think are co-owned... When I get sick of the crowd at Lost Weekend I walk next door. Punk Rock Chris is the bartender that I always see there, he takes care of his locals ;) The place may have a band or a DJ usually on weekends- last night (Friday) it was an artsy noir film opening. I like to go here because I love the music and the atmosphere is sick- where else can you play rock-em-sock-em robots at a bar?!?
google avatar

Steph C.

Yelp
Fun bar. While we were walking around we found this spot. Its a tad small the location. The decor is different but fun. It was karaoke night. Also there video games downstairs & upstairs in the room. Cool spot too chill & relax.
google avatar

Fernando V.

Yelp
Loved this small little bar. My wife and I were looking for a place that wasn't typical Miami where we could have some good drinks relax and listen to some good music. This was the perfect spot!
google avatar

Kylie C.

Yelp
Sick little dive bar right next to Lost Weekend. I love this place. The drinks are cheap, the bartender Karlos is amazing and you just generally feel welcomed/comfortable here. I feel like they do a lot of events.. I've been when there is karaoke, drag shows, live bands and it's attached to lost weekend so, if you get bored with that you can just pop right in and play some pool! It's all just fun and very chill and open till 5am! So yay! Have a wild night. If you're on South Beach this is a must visit! Cheers!
google avatar

Brigitta M.

Yelp
Omg! Karloz made my night yet again! People like Karloz is the reason people go out and Party! coming back soon.
google avatar

Santiago P.

Yelp
Have never been treated so disrespectfully by a bartender in my life. Ariana couldn't care less about our requests or attempts to buy a drink. 100% will never come back if I see her behind the bar. Lack of customer care and just rude. Let's not even talk about the way she talks behind the bar. Made me uncomfortable. Tragic for a LGBT bar such a shame.
google avatar

Romy G.

Yelp
This place is so much fun! A dive bar with an interesting mix of patrons and karaoke. I heard everything from No Doubt to Selena to Disney classics. Bartenders are also super engaging and fun. If you want to have a good time and be somewhere that's not pretentious in Miami Beach, this place is definitely worth the visit.
google avatar

Brandon I.

Yelp
I am a karaoke enthusiast. For us weirdos, having a "home" karaoke venue is pretty important as far as being able to workshop new selections within a safe space, with a friendly crowd. Kill Your Idol has become that for me, with their Thursday night Karaoke Circus events, hosted by the effervescent Shelly Novak. There are very few places on the beach which aren't overrun by visitors. Kill Your Idol can get busy for sure, but most who are there are into the karaoke and become a welcoming and participating audience. In addition, Karlos has to be one of the best bartenders on the beach. I have no effing clue how he keeps drinks filled AND pitches in on the karaoke event. Even at it's busiest, I've rarely had to wait for more than 2-3 minutes for a beverage. They have good drink specials too. $3 PBR drafts, some bottles, and $1 jello shots. I haven't been there any other evening but Thursday, but I can assure any locals or out-of-towners in search of a good karaoke venue on the beach, that Kill Your Idol on Thursdays is a barrel full of monkeys. Officially starts at 10pm, but sometimes Karlos dials it up a bit earlier. Stop by!
google avatar

Maryann B.

Yelp
My name is Kevin B. and I went there for the first time and found Shelly the karaoke dj and staff very friendly and pleasant to talk to . I ordered pizza and it tasted like brick oven. The bartender was very helpful showing me how to log in to a website for requesting my songs. The music was a little louder then my mic but i had a blast. I would strongly recommend this place !
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
A cool dive bar with a sports / pool bar attached to it. Angela is an attentive bartender. Loved this place!
google avatar

Margarita N.

Yelp
Such a great bar! We felt at home here. Both my boyfriend and I sang a song each at karaoke on Thursday night and we had the time of our life!!! I was super excited about the $3 PBR and $2 Jello Shots. We were there for about an hour and a half, left, then came back because we were not digging the other bars. Such a great vibe and the bartenders were super attentive and friendly!!
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
small place but full of fun! the music doesn't only focus in one genre and era and the bartenders are nice! its only beside a sports bar
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Came here for the first time for their ladies night. I was actually at a nearby bar beforehand for their ladies night which was absolutely dead so when I came in here I was pleasantly surprised to find it packed so I guess this the spot to be on Wednesday nights. The overall vibe of the bar was very cool and the drinks we all got were well made. Nice local bar feel considering it's in Miami Beach. I definitely plan on returning for a future night out.
google avatar

Nicholas M.

Yelp
WOW!! I'm plastered drunk right now can't lie!! But oh wow this bar has insane energy, great drag shows, great drinks, HALF OFF DRINKS TIL 10PM... once again, THE ENERGY... Friday nights are amazing weekdays are less packed but still great! COME HERE... HAVE A GREAT TIME!
google avatar

Ty M.

Yelp
Excellent locals bar in South Beach. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, chill ambient music, and most importantly, good stiff drinks. I will dispute the $ rating, though. We had five cocktails between us: Two old-fashioneds, and three Makers on the rocks, and our tab was $82, on a Sunday night. Granted, it was during Art Basel, but still, I think $$ would be more appropriate.
google avatar

Jen E.

Yelp
This is by far the dirties place I've step foot in. The staff is absolutely rude and they will yell at you for pretty much everything. I went for ladies night and I tried getting a drink for my fiancé at the same time and the gay bartender yelled NO! And proceeded to go on the microphone and say "ladies stop giving your drinks to your man, trust me he is not worth it" um.. okay!!! Lol I also tried to get a specific drink, but it turns out that on "ladies night" your free drink consists only of cheap liquor...(no thanks) Do yourself a favor and choose a nicer, cleaner place to have fun!!!
google avatar

Adnan R.

Yelp
This place is just a wonderful little dark corner of delight. Always a good time. And drinks are very reasonable and music ..well to my pleasing .
