Houston’s 2024 Michelin-Starred and Bib Gourmand Restaurants, Mapped

"Ronnie Killen’s restaurant in the Heights is a dependable place for heaps of comfort food for lunch, dinner, or brunch. Killen’s serves top-notch chicken-fried chicken with mashed potatoes alongside starters like honey butter truffle biscuits, sandwiches, brisket enchiladas, and Southern-style sides like collard greens and fried okra. Dessert here is another filling affair, with a generous portion of peach bread pudding, pecan pie, and German chocolate cake." - Brittany Britto Garley

Get Cozy with the Best Comfort Food Takeout in Houston | Eater Houston

"At Ronnie Killen’s newest Southern comfort-style concept, the menu draws from the chef’s childhood with his family, which itself makes the place feel warm, homey and comfortable. There are classic plates “like mom used to make” — but in this case Ronnie Killen helms the kitchen — so fried green tomatoes are splashed with buttermilk sauce and pickled shrimp, deviled eggs are garnished with pulled pork, the meatloaf is pretty, and knocking out the 16 oz chicken fried steak with gravy on your own is a feat. Visit ronniekillen.com to order." - Megha McSwain

Southern comfort foods meets fine dining. Been here several times for their great tasting BBQ and just had their wholesome and tasty brunch today. Had to leave a review. Honestly, I feel like their BBQ is better than Truth across the street. There’s no line to wait in and plenty of cooked-to-perfection juicy brisket. Plus, they have the big-body beef ribs and gourmet sides and desserts. LOVE that there’s no valet parking and plenty of FREE parking.

Killen’s at The Heights delivers a solid Southern dining experience with well-executed dishes, attentive service, and a bright, open atmosphere. While the food was good, it lacked the wow factor, and for the price, I wouldn’t go out of my way to return. The buttermilk fried chicken is cooked to order, ensuring it’s fresh and hot, with a crispy exterior and juicy meat. However, the seasoning was lacking—no real internal flavor, not salty enough, and overall, a bit bland. While the texture was perfect, it took about 15 minutes to arrive, which is understandable but worth noting. The chicken fried chicken was the better deal. Being boneless made it easier to eat, and it came with more gravy than the buttermilk fried chicken, adding extra richness. If you’re choosing between the two, I’d recommend the chicken fried chicken. The sides stood out—the mashed potatoes and gravy were perfection, with a smooth, buttery texture and excellent seasoning. The Gouda macaroni and cheese was another highlight, super creamy and thick, definitely worth trying. Service was excellent—water glasses were always full, staff was quick and attentive, and the specials were explained well without any pressure to add sides or desserts. The interior has a bright, open-concept layout, making all four sides of the restaurant visible. The rustic wooden design gives it a casual yet polished feel. Parking is plentiful and easy to find, which is a major plus, especially in this area. Overall, Killen’s offers good Southern food with great service and a comfortable setting, but the lack of bold flavors and slightly high prices make it hard to justify a return visit.

We were here for Sunday brunch. The chicken fried chicken was phenomenal. The accompanying white gravy was delicious. Well worth the calories. The pork belly appetizer was great. We also tried their BBQ platter with our choice of 3 meats. We went with brisket, ribs and sausage. The ribs were tasty and the brisket had great flavour but a touch dry. The Mac and cheese side was to die for. Our rubber arms were talked into dessert which was the warm carrot cake - amazing. It’s the best carrot cake you’ll ever have. Service was attentive and friendly. Shoutout to Matthew who took care of us!

Killen’s offers a fantastic dining experience filled with Southern charm. The staff is exceptionally friendly and provides excellent recommendations, enhancing the overall visit. On a beautiful spring evening, I enjoyed an early dinner that started with deviled eggs—rich and flavorful, with a pork belly topping that added an extra depth of taste. The main course featured their famous fried chicken, perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy inside. To finish, the warm peach bread pudding delivered a satisfying balance of richness and freshness, rounding out the meal beautifully. For an authentic Southern culinary experience, Killen’s is a must-visit in Houston.

We stopped by Killens for lunch on a Saturday and were really impressed. The place was busy, but we got our food pretty quickly. We started with the wings and Brussels sprouts – the sprouts were amazing, seriously some of the best we've ever had. For the main course, we had the brisket and pork belly. Everything was cooked perfectly, really moist and flavorful. The Heights location has a more modern, slightly upscale vibe compared to the original Pearland spot, which is more rustic. It's definitely a different atmosphere, but still comfortable and inviting. Overall, it was a great lunch and we'd definitely go back.

OMG!!! Killen's Southern Restaurant on Heights Blvd is the real MVP, serving up crazy-delicious eats that'll make your taste buds do the happy dance. Great customer service, outstanding food, and an amazing staff. The menu is like a party in your mouth, with dishes like Ronnie's 24 Fried Chicken, Mash Potatoes with Gravy, Collard Greens, Twin Bone In Pork Chops with Gravy, Broccoli no and Cheese Risotto, and Peach Bread Pudding - each one a masterclass in culinary wizardry. We left feeling like stuffed turkeys, and we're not even mad about it. 😁

Came here on a whim and it did not disappoint. My waiter Devaughn was VERY attentive and very helpful with questions about the menu. He greeted me with a smile and met any needs that I had. I didn't like that he was the only one really doing anything in the restaurant. But it wasn't busy at all. He kept my glass full. He definitely earned his tip. 🙌🏻🙌🏻 As my appetizer I ordered the deviled eggs with the caviar on top. I also ordered a 2 meat plate, with brisket and sides of tator salad and cream corn. I also got an extra side of collard greens. The deviled eggs were so freaking good. Especially with the caviar on top. Never had it that way. But so worth it. 🥚😋🤤 The brisket was very flavorful, a lil dry, but the BBQ sauce you get makes it so good. Definitely delicious. 😚😚 (Devaughn got me some bread upon request) Tator salad tasted a lil different as they used red tators. And they added bits of pork. I definitely recommend this side.😉😉 The cream corn was OMG, to die for. Very superb compared to other places I've tried. 🤤🤤🤤 Collard greens were okay, they were just a lil salty. The juice kind of tasted like the cajun flavored boiled peanuts you get at the gas station. Still worth the try tho. I just can't handle too much sodium. 😬😬😬 The atmosphere seemed a lil "uppity", but it was still very chill and quiet. Restaurant was very clean. I definitely recommend this place. ( I should have got dessert) 😒😒😒🤣

Google
I badly wanted to like this place because the atmosphere and service were both solid. The problem? Food quality control. My friend and I both ordered the famous 24 hr fried chicken, and while his chicken turned out perfectly (second picture tagged), mine was BURNT (first picture). Every bite was bitter. Edible, but barely. I am not a picky eater and was so hungry (we waited about 30 mins for the food) that I ended up eating a couple of pieces…but man was it disappointing. Hope they get quality control under wraps. Was thinking of taking my wife here but frankly, probably will not return.

Yelp
I've been to Killen's many times before for both dinner and lunch however this is my first time seeing and trying the brisket enchiladas on the menu. I have to say it's the best thing I've ever had at their restaurant and I have been, for the most part, pleased with my meal and the service each time I've been. Our waiter was nice as always and I went on a Tuesday at around 4pm so it was only a few other occupied tables and quiet. My peach bread pudding was also good!

Yelp
Killen's delivers an authentic, mouth-watering barbecue experience that any BBQ lover would appreciate. The first thing you notice as you approach the restaurant is the irresistible scent of slow-smoked meats wafting through the air, which sets the tone for what's to come. Atmosphere: The rustic decor creates a laid-back, cozy vibe. It feels like a place where both locals and out-of-towners can gather and enjoy great food. Food: I ordered a combination plate featuring brisket, sausage, and smoked ribs, along with their french fries and baked beans. The brisket was tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of smoky bark. The pulled pork was juicy and slightly tangy, pairing wonderfully with the restaurant's signature vinegar-based BBQ sauce. The ribs, though slightly drier than I expected, had a deep, smoky flavor that more than made up for the texture. The sides were a hit--especially the fries, which was salty and perfectly crunchy without being overwhelming. The baked beans had small amounts of brisket, providing a great balance of flavors to the rich meats. The peach bread pudding was warm and sweet. Providing a comfort feel that you would think your mother made it. Service: Service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff was more than happy to offer suggestions and explain the different sauces and smoke techniques used. The food arrived quickly, probably because it was a bit slow, and the servers checked in regularly without being overbearing. Value: For the quality and portion sizes, Killen's offers excellent value. The combination plates are fairly generous. Prices are reasonable, and they have great family-style options if you're dining in a group. ### Final Thoughts: Killen's delivers on its promise of great barbecue with a relaxed atmosphere. While the ribs could have been a little more tender, the overall experience was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning to explore more of their menu. If you're a BBQ lover looking for flavorful smoked meats and a friendly, casual setting, this place is well worth a visit

Yelp
Had been meaning to try Killen's since they opened and finally got the opportunity after going for a car wash. Came in after lunch and it wasn't too busy and was seated right away. The restaurant appears rustic yet modern with a semi-open kitchen and a full bar. Ordered the chicken fried ribeye. The previous restaurant was Hickory Hollow where I had tried my first chicken fried steak after moving to Houston so had to order the same. Chicken fried ribeye came out hot and crispy. The ribeye was tender and delicious. Probably one of the best chicken fried steak I've ever had so far. Given that they used a ribeye, it's one of the best cuts. Menu is extensive. They also serve Texas barbecue meats like brisket and beef ribs. They have smokers inside and outside the structure. I will have to come back for their barbecue. This is a shorter trip than driving all the way down to Pearland. Happy that I made the trip and will definitely be back.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because I heard good things. But unfortunately it fell short of expectations. The meats we received were pretty dry and the brisket didn't really absorb any flavor. Had to lather it with sauce. The ribs were flavorful but dry. From this experience alone I'd have to rate this lower than my usual bbq places.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Monday. Service was good. Chicken fried chicken was delicious! The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite wouldn't order again the Gouda was overpowering. Had a passion fruit margarita which was delicious and potent. Would come back again.

Yelp
I love this place. I eat here a lot with my family and the chicken fried chicken is my go to. However this time I was rushing around and decided to pick food up "to go" instead of dining in. This was our first take out here and based on this experience, it will be our last. The portion of chicken was probably half the size of the regular dine in portions I've always received at Killens. The taste is still spot on though.

Yelp
Cocktails: Matagorda-- 9/10 Poolside-- 10/10 Appetizer: Creamed Corn Empanadas-- 8/10 Smoked Wings-- Lemon Pepper-- 12/10 Entree: Buttermilk Fried Chicken-- 12/10 sub baked beans + Mac n cheese-- 8/10 Sat at the bar & our bartender (lady) was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The smoked lemon pepper wings were deliiiiiiiish! $15 for 6-8pcs (they do by weight) & we had 7-- totally worth it. Fried chicken was super juicy, filling, & flavorful. I didn't know what to expect from the Mac n cheese but I enjoyed it & it paired very well with the back beans. IG: eatgoodtx TikTok: abidaremii

Yelp
Pretty pricey for the food but the food was good! It was a fancier version of BBQ. They had a fun play on some classics. Service was slow and our waiter wasn't totally attentive but overall a good experience.

Yelp
Honestly, we were disappointed with the food at Killen's. We ordered the pork belly appetizer which was good. Our entrees were the chicken pot pie, fried chicken, 2 meat plate (wagyu brisket + ribs), and another 2 meat plate (pulled pork + ribs). The chicken pot pie portion was larger than expected. Overall, it wasn't anything special. I only took a few bites because I was overwhelmed by the amount of butter in it. It left a waxy feel in my mouth. Both order of ribs were surprisingly tough. The ribs didn't fall off the bones like you'd expect at a bbq joint. The pulled pork was good. Good cut of meat. The fried chicken was a little greasy, as expected, but wasn't anything special. The portion is what blew us away - it was like a family meal deal at Popeye's. We also ordered some onion rings that were soggy. The batter lacked seasoning, so those were a miss. The service was good. No complaints there. The ambiance was comfy and family friendly. Overall, we were disappointed as we felt Killen's had been overhyped.

Yelp
I couldn't go to Houston and not try a good ole BBQ and based on recommendations this was one of the places to try!! I couldn't go to the store and got my order through the doordash so I I will not be able to rate the service in the ambiance of the restaurant. The best thing in my order will forever be the pork belly, it was so juicyyy!! The ribs was deliciouss! It was totally worth it!

Yelp
Truly amazing southern food! Came on a Thursday during lunch time and they had a nice lunch crowd but we were able to get a table immediately. This place was a lot more spacious than I imagined and actually pretty nice inside. I was there with coworkers but definitely could see this being a cute date spot! To start off we ordered the creamed corn empanadas. WOW! These were super tasty and cheesy. I could have just kept eating these as my meal haha. For my entree I ordered the chicken fried chicken which came on a bed of mashed potatoes and covered in gravy. This plate was massive! I probably ate a little less than half before I had to tap out. However, this was hands down the best chicken fried chicken I have ever had. It was the perfect thickness, crunchy, juicy, and SO FLAVORFUL! I really enjoyed this dish and urge everyone there to try it. They really know what they are doing with their chicken here. I was stuffed beyond belief after, but could not leave without getting some of their banana pudding to go. I ended up eating it later that night and it was amazing. I had to have my friend take it away so I would not eat the entire tub in one sitting. Overall I thought the food was great, but I took a star off for service. Our waiter barely came around so it made the whole meal take about 2 hours. It was a slow day at work and we were not rushing so it was fine, but on a normal workday I'd prefer faster service for lunch time.

Yelp
First of all, I love this place, their food, and the service. The atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable. I'm just drawing attention to their decision to stop serving brunch. It was a favorite brunch spot for my wife and I and we were there regularly. I wish they had it Saturday and Sunday but we at least had Sunday. Now that is gone as well. I understand business decisions but it's sad to lose such a great brunch spot. Hopefully enough people speak up and they reconsider this decision.

Yelp
Went to brunch with my mom, cousin, and aunt to celebrate my aunt and my cousin's birthdays. The ambiance was good, not too crowded. The place is decorated simply but well. Good place for a family meal, business lunch, or dinner with your people. The food was delicious. The carrot cake pancakes were great, the pork belly is on-point, the chicken fried ribeye and eggs was delicious, and I got the killen's bendedict, but asked for it "Jose's way" so had them sub the Texas toast for a biscuit. It was the right move. The service was great, my mom and aunt can be extra about certain things and they didn't bat an eye. Nothing stellar but no complaints. Price point was fair.

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience. The brisket was delicious and pretty good for Texas bbq. I liked how this was a seat down where they brought food to you instead of having to wait on line like other places. Would recommend the Brussels sprouts. The corn bread was also really fresh but very dense to pair with the brisket. Ambiance is modern and new feeling. This was also one of the best bathrooms I've ever seen! It was so clean and new looking. Had parking outside.

Yelp
The most AMAZING peach bread pudding I have EVER had. If I would've known how good it was I would've had one for dinner and another for dessert. Out of this world truly. I had the fried chicken and wish I would've done the BBQ sampler. The chicken was good but the pork was better. The Brussels were a favorite side dish and cocktails were also very good and tickled all the senses. I loved the atmosphere here, it was clean and modern and our waiter was incredible. We had a massive party and he did an outstanding job from the cocktail and food recommendations to getting the whole tables food out at the same time. If you're in Houston I highly recommend dinner here!

Kyle G.

Yelp
Put in a togo order in person, manager rang in the order wrong, and left food out of the Togo bag. Came back to get the missing item and manager argued with me and charged me again for the missing item. Won't be coming back in the future, hope that $20 was worth it bud.

Yelp
I've been a long-time fan of Killen's, frequently visiting the Pearland location and even celebrating my anniversary at KILLEN'S STQ, so I was excited to try this restaurant. Upon arrival, the ambiance was everything I expected--relaxing and inviting. My hopes were high. We started with the pork belly appetizer, which was phenomenal--so good, in fact, that I ordered a second round. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. My mom's two-meat plate with brisket and sausage arrived cold. I ordered a pound of loose-cut brisket, and it, too, was cold. My wife's short rib and mashed potatoes were also cold. While the flavors were undoubtedly top-notch, the temperature of the food did not meet the Killen's quality I've come to know and love. It was disappointing, to say the least. Cold barbecue is not what I expect from a brand of this caliber. The saving grace of the evening was our server, Shtephanny, who provided outstanding service despite our dissatisfaction with the food. As much as I've loved the original BBQ spot in Pearland, this experience makes it hard to consider returning to this location. Nobody enjoys cold food, especially when it's coming from a restaurant with Killen's reputation. I hope they can address these issues to restore the standard they're known for.

Yelp
Food was average at best. Stroganoff was fine. Barbecue beef was dry, tasteless and the sauce they gave was over whelmingly sweet. The sauce would have over powered good barbecue, which we didn't get. Fries were good, Brussel sprouts were similarly flavorless, deviled eggs were good.
google avatar

Yelp
Uber eats dinner Pluses 1. Food arrived hot 2. Best fried okra ever - so crispy and crunchy - small side 3. Brisket is juicy and tender 4. Rib is juicy and tender 5. Turkey is flavorful yet lean 6. Mac and cheese sooo cheesy 7. Chicken hot pie is amazing and flaky crust and huge portion! Areas to improve Nothing I can think of so far Would highly recommend and I'm. Excited to try other food items.

Yelp
Almost awesome! This is the Killens comfort dood restaurant, and it is a full table service southern menu. It is a great menu with beautiful food and attentive service. But lets talk about the chefs love of Habanero peppers. I ordered a side of collard greens and couldn't finish it because: mouth burning peppers in the greens, all the BBQ sauces were with Habanero peppers... it was a bit too much. The brisket was covered with black pepper, with a similar cumulative mouth effect. Fries were spicy as well. So be warned... but everything looked wonderful.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved it here ! When you walk in and are seated the kitchen and the bar are the main stars here! You feel like you are in someone's living room getting a home cooked meal. We decided to get a meat plate a couple of sides and the peach bread pudding. The meats: We got brisket and sausage... the brisket was so tender and literally melted in your mouth. And FLAVORFUL !!! Now let's talk about the Swiss ... the sauce here was boss & they didn't skimp on adding the sauce either ! The mash potatoes and Mac and cheese were tasty ! But that peach bread bread pudding was top tier ... literally wanted to shake the hands of the chef ! It was so amazing ! I enjoyed my meal thoroughly.

Yelp
The Mac & Cheese and Pork Belly were delightful, offering a delicious experience. The initial hiccup with the hard Biscuits & Gravy was swiftly resolved with a delightful replacement. Ashley, our waitress, was kind enough to fix it. We never heard from the manager. The Brioche French Toast with fruit and coconut syrup earned its praise for its tasty combination. Unfortunately, the Chicken Biscuit and Chicken Fried Chicken Benedict fell short with dry textures. The Chicken fried Chicken Benedict also had Jalapeños on it... this was no where on the description. On the bright side, the Big Ass Breakfast was well worth it, and the Scrambled Eggs and German Chocolate Cake maintained the positive streak. The "Happy Birthday" moment with the shareable cake added a sweet touch to the overall experience. Brunch only on Sunday's needs to be advertised , as such. When we think of Killeen's we think of hearty food like mac and cheese, meats, and good food. We were looking for things like grilled cheese brisket, Shrimp Po Boy, Nashville chicken... none of that was available on the Sunday brunch. In clearing the table with the menus, we saw a sliver of paper, like an afterthought- Advertising of the brisket, catfish, and other items which were not seen until after orders were in. Unfortunately, the special of the day menu was not with the regular menu, but were hidden with the alcohol menus- wines, bourbon, and whiskey. My suggestion would be to keep all menus together. Service from Miss Ashley was fine. My coffee cup only had one refill. Liam was great in keeping the glasses filled with water. Ambiance was open concept. Everything looked clean. You could see in the kitchen. The game was on. People were spread out evenly. When we go to PEARLAND, or STQ we don't run into these challenges- It's always fresh, good, and hot so we thought we would try this one... it's not the same.

Yelp
I don't crave BBQ often but Killen's might change that! My tummy left very full and happy after we visited on a Saturday evening. This is in a prime area on Washington so it's nice that there is a parking lot available. The BBQ is as good as I expected. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and especially liked the toasted bun. The chicken-fried steak was about as big as the plate and also good. I was also impressed with the sides too! The mac and cheese and cream corn were both delicious and made great leftovers. Had too much to take home but will come extra hungry next time so that I can enjoy everything fresh!

Yelp
Delivery. The food came hot since I live so close. My cousin surprised me with bbq not knowing that I don't love it. (She lives in FL) Order: Two meats - brisket and sausage; the brisket was delicious, a good ratio of fat to meat, tender, flavorful but not overdone; the sausage was ok Sides: mac and cheese and onion rings; the mac and cheese was on point, not overly done, more white cheddar style than the deep cheddar, not salty - one of my gripes with Mac and cheese- creamy; onion rings were not battered the way I like, one bite and the whole thing crumbles so you are eating onion and batter separately I'm def not opposed to trying again esp bc of all the rave I've heard about their other locations.

Yelp
Good parking in adjacent private lot. Good bbq and sides- house sausage is spicy peppery, sliced brisket on the dry side but bbq sauce made it better, nice pork ribs fall off the bone. Fresh green beans were the highlight of our group meal today! Not limp, soggy, dull green but bright green and properly sautéed. Mashed potatoes were bland, as well as the baked beans. Great service for our group of 16. Meals come out quickly and hot.

Yelp
Killen's was the first spot we tried after landing in Houston for the weekend. We randomly chose it because it was near where we were staying and they were open. After the first night, we came back two more times! The food was probably the best out of the whole trip. The first night I opted for a burger and fries and my goodness, they loaded that plate with fries. The burger was full of flavor and juicy. My friends chose the fried seafood plate and fried chicken. The Brussel sprouts were phenomenal as a side dish. On the subsequent visits, we had the brisket sandwich, chicken Caesar salad, pork belly, and queso. All of which were fantastic. Now, the drinks!! The bartenders were super friendly and you can tell they all enjoyed their work. The margaritas were strong. Just how I prefer them! There was a peach drink that my friends kept ordering. I can't remember the name of it. I even had an old fashioned made with tequila at the suggestion of the bartender. The environment was fun and we had a great experience all three times! I highly suggest any and everyone try Killen's! Sadly, my phone erased during the trip, and my photos didn't save, but trust my review!

Yelp
Came as part of my 7,000 mile 30 city food tour. Let me just start with this...the beef rib here was life changing and placed first out of all 85 items I had on my trip! I couldn't drive to Houston and just get a rib so I ordered like I was ordering for 2, lol. "We" will get the beef rib platter and the 3 meat platter . With each came 2 sides, so...beef rib (perfection), jalapeño cheddar sausage (elite), pork ribs (great), and brisket (honestly, this was to me the lone disappointment as it hovered dry). Semi-sweet brussels (elite), a super unique vinegar based cabbage slaw with ramen in it (elite), Mac (very good), and baked beans (just ok). Overall though, this beef rib char and juiciness was a memory in itself. So glad to have made it here!

Yelp
Plenty of seating, knowledgeable service staff and GREAT food. We had drinks, veggie plate and fried chicken. My husband said it was the best fried chicken he'd ever had.

Yelp
You know the food is good when I forget to take a picture! I had the chicken fried steak and it was DIVINE! I had my 3 year old sleeping in my lap and when I tell you it was so tender that I barely needed my knife?!?! The mashed potatoes were shockingly good, very well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese was so creamy and delicious, it reminded me of Alfredo. Please save room for dessert also! The peach bread pudding is literally the best bread pudding I have ever had in my life. Not to mention the service was wonderful. If you are in Houston, GOHERE!!!

Yelp
Not to be confused with Killens steakhouse, Killens BBQ, or Killens STQ, like many of you, we ended up here bc the line at Truth BBQ was unbearable...I'm kidding! Familiar with Killlens BBQ, and Killens Steakhouse exclusively, this stop served as a nice midpoint. We arrived for Father's Day brunch, and we're promptly seated without reservations. The servers were attentive, and the food was on point, boasting southern comfort favorites (like shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, chicken fried steak and chicken biscuits), with few vegetables in sight! Our favorites were the chicken biscuit (don't let them fool you, this appetizer serves as a solid entree), the chicken and waffles (we got the tenders, because the half bird is truly a half bird), and the collard greens. If you're looking for a boogie version of grandmas cooking, you've found your spot!

Yelp
Who puts bone-in chicken in a pot pie?! And it's not just some small bone, it clearly shows they didn't clear the chicken before cooking with it. It's not what I was expecting and was gross. I tried to take one more bite and came across more bones, so that's truly just how they make this. Who wants to eat a pie and constantly be picking out bones?

Yelp
So on the Houston bbq tour, this was next up! The restaurant is not super big but it actually is really nice on the inside. Got a kind of a rustic feel to it. Have a nice size bar so you can definitely get a good drink and stretch out. Are server was really good, I wish I remember his name but unfortunately I don't but either way, the service that was really good overall. When we had all the questions about the minions he had no problem answering them. He kept a glasses full as well so I could appreciate that. Got the BBQ plate with brisket and ribs (pork) and the sides were collard greens and brussel sprouts. Good, they had bacon in them so they had a lot of flavor. The collard greens were the truth. I would get them again. You can taste all the smoked hickory in them! The ribs were just okay. They were a little bit more tough and not as much fall off the bone but they had a pretty decent flavor on them. The brisket was good and it had a lot of flavor and was pretty tender. Very moist and I could appreciate that. When I come back? I sure would.

Yelp
Top notch southern food from the folks who make top notch Texas BBQ. More choices than just the BBQ hits with great service in an open sit down venue. You have to get the cream corn and pork belly. The chicken fried steak is enormous. The smoked short rib was excellent; sweet, tangy, soft and tender. It's a giant dinosaur bone so be prepared. The smothered pork chops had a little too much black pepper for our taste. There is typically ample seating, but when it fills up it can get loud and hard to hear. There's a reasonable sized parking lot that's attached.

Yelp
We had family in town a couple weeks ago and was excited to take them to Killen's. Unfortunately, the brisket that we bragged about was dry and not very tasty. It was a little embarrassing but the chicken stole the show! The chicken is consistently very good and the ribs are consistently good, but, I'm not sure if I will ever get the brisket again. We even ordered moist brisket but it must have been an off day for brisket. Oh, while the sides were good, the greens were also not quite as good as the last time.

Yelp
Parking can get full so if you're lucky you'll find a spot. We didn't have to wait long for a table of 3. Service was good, we were taken care of. We ordered pork belly, mac and cheese, buttermilk fried half chicken, cornbread, and bbq plate - 3 meat (brisket, sausage, and pork ribs). Everything on the 3 meat plate was delicious. 5/5. Brisket was moist and flavorful, ribs fell off the bone, and sausage was savory. Mac and cheese and cornbread 5/5. They were on point. Buttermilk fried half chicken was about . It was still pretty delectable but can get a little dry towards the center. Pork belly 5/5. Tender and juicy. Good use of seasoning. I would still recommend this place for good bbq. Prices were reasonable.

Yelp
Ambiance is nice, food is average. The service was very slow and our waiter was just an oddball who kept making weird comments. I was between the catfish or the short rib and he said "well because you're a woman I recommend the catfish." Does he think the female stomach is too sensitive to handle beef LOL. I prefer killens STQ overall, better quality and service

Yelp
One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the ability to see your food prepared in the kitchen. It isn't overdone and it just feels right as you dine. The staff were super friendly including the manager who came by to check on us and then sent us hot rolls for our meal. I was with a party of eight and there were rave reviews for the turkey, brisket (you can cut it with a fork) and chicken fried steak. Also the pork belly was a hit. I did order meatloaf and unfortunately that was my least favorite thing I tasted. I think the combo of the sauce -more bbq less tomato and the texture of the loaf (a little more like shepherd's pie) didn't appeal to my taste buds and it didn't come with a side so I ate a few bites and called it. But overall it was a good meal. I would return but try something different.

Yelp
Recently I was able to chose to check out Killens for my work team for lunch. We got the deviled eggs for the appetizer along with the pork belly. I'd go back for both of these items. The glaze and crisp on the pork belly was great. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich wasn't anything special. It honestly didn't have any spice to me which was semi disappointing. However the overall method and taste was good. The fries were also good. Overall the clean minimal dining room was very nice for a group. There were plenty of tables along with large ones for groups of 10. We had plenty of space which was great when you bring a group. I enjoyed my experience there and will be returning.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Killen's in Houston, TEXAS, and it was an absolute delight. The aroma of smoky goodness greeted me as I entered, setting the stage for a true Southern comfort experience. The menu offered a tempting array of barbecue delights, and I opted for a mix of classics. The chicken fried steak was a masterpiece! The sides, true to Southern tradition, were equally impressive -- creamy mac 'n' cheese and hearty potatoes complemented the main course splendidly. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, reflecting the genuine Southern hospitality that makes dining here a memorable experience. The staff was attentive, and the service was prompt, adding to the overall positive impression.

Yelp
Why 5 stars? Because Killen's is the standard everyone else should aim for. --- --- --- We made a pretty impromptu decision to drive through Houston and needed to quickly decide where we'd be eating lunch. There were several options discussed, one of which was KIllen's. My wife and I were pretty torn, but ultimately the executive decision was made to come here. We'd had a really heavy dinner the night before, so neither of us were that hungry... especially for something like the Killen's brunch menu. But we love Killen's BBQ, so we decided it was worth trying. And we are so glad we did. Despite all of the listed reasons why we should not have loved this meal, we absolutely could not have enjoyed it more. I ate more than the legal limit, which resulted in being in my only meal of the day, which was so worth it. We started off with chips and queso and the pork belly. Both were 5-stars. The pork belly was just ridiculous. Charred on the outside, butter on the inside. The queso was a home run. We ended up sharing chicken and waffles and it hit the spot. I enjoyed it, but would probably opt for something else next time, just because virtually every menu item tempted me. 4-stars. We ordered a side of fries for our son and these were unbelievably great. I told our server: these have ruined all other fries for me. It actually angered me why fries don't always taste like this. Size, flavor and texture = perfect. 6-stars. The carrot cake for dessert was divine. The hot frosting on top is something I will dream about for many moons. And somehow, despite tasting incredibly rich, it did not leave that gross, after-meal feeling in my belly. 5-stars. We also ordered a slice of german chocolate cake to-go so that we could share it with someone. It was just okay, but I think it would have been a lot better fresh. 3-stars to-go, but I'll give it an N/A. The service was an easy 5-stars. I am so mad I didn't jot down our server's name for a shoutout here because she was awesome. And the manager came to check on us a couple of times too. Killen's for me really is the gold standard. I've never had a bad experience at one of their restaurants. And after this visit, I want to make a point to try out all of their concepts. The Tex-Mex spot in Pearland is next on the list!

Yelp
Met a client here for lunch. Service was excellent and food yummy. Comfort food done with precision. Fired green tomatoes super crispy and the sauce with them was fantastic compliment. I had brisket enchiladas - i would have like more heat in them but that me

Yelp
Service was excellent and they have good recommendations. I would suggest getting the regular brisket over the wagyu brisket. The smoked wings were awesome also

Yelp
Killen's is always delish. The service can sometimes be off, but the food is always good. I recommend getting the brisket Benedicts, but get it "Jose's Way" (replacing the Texas Toast with a biscuit). So good.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Have been there many times and very consistent. Develed eggs are excellent.

Yelp
We tried all the meats available since we came when they just opened so the wings were not ready. Of all the meats, the turkey and brisket was the best. The ribs, sausage, and pulled pork was a little on the saltier side. The sides were good. The service was good. The bacon on my Bloody Mary was good. It smell smokey and taste just like it. I wanted more bacon.

Yelp
I walked through the doors surprised of how wonderful the inside looked. The waitress and hosts were kind and treated my party with care. The waitress answered all of our questions about the menu and made sure we were fully knowledgable on portions to order. Brisket, sausage, pull pork, and turkey were great. The corn here is a MUST TRY. Top barbecue spot here in Houston.

Yelp
Killens bbq . Came here for dinner around 5pm before they close at 6pm on a Monday evening. Note self don't go to Texas bbq spots when it's closing because it's not fresh like when they open in the mornings. . I got the one meat platter beef brisket. It was dry and I was disappointed. I didn't finish it and just threw it away. The bbq sauce on the table were all not my favorite. It was just dry and hard to chew. The 2 sides I got was Mac and cheese and collard greens. . Burnt ends - this was over cooked and barely any fat on them. It was no for me. The flavor was good tho. Not like what I imagine the texture would be like. Sides . Mac and cheese- it was creamy and cheesy good. The flavor wasn't too rich to the point where after one bite, your like no thanks. It was good. . Collard greens - this was a bit salty. The texture and everything else was cooked right. Just a little less salt would have been better. . Overall the best item I had from this place was the Mac and cheese. I had to some research on other reviews and many say the beef brisket is on the dry side. So it wasn't me coming during closing time. I would give this spot one more try but for the need rib if I'm in houston again. . Ambiance was casual. You order from the counter, then find your seat and enjoy. Self serve condiment bar and utensils and self serve soda fountain too. Ambiance inside was casual. I do like the outdoor with all them benches to picnic on a better weather day . Hope this review helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day.

Yelp
The BEST bbq I have ever tried! I tried this meal a couple years back and think about it all the time! Definitely Houston's top 2 and it ain't 2! Finished my whole plate! We had to wait in a line that had us standing outside the building during Covid time but it was worth it!
