The 16 Best Ramen Shops in Houston - Eater Houston

"Los Angeles's top-tier ramen spot has landed in Houston, serving up soupy and broth-less bowls of ramen in the Heights. Choose from its three signature styles, including its original made with white mapo tofu; the popular creamy Tokyo ramen that’s rich with peanut and sesame flavor; or its tangy and acidic Downtown-style, made with vinegar and chili. Then, carefully pick the spice level, which ranges from “no spice” to “killer,” and don’t forget your toppings. You can’t go wrong with char siu or poached egg." - Brittany Britto Garley

This business needs to update its hours. I planned my day around visiting and saw on google that it was open, but unfortunately I wasted my time coming on a Wednesday afternoon. Edit: I went back during the actual opening hours and really enjoyed the bowl. It’s similar, yet a bit more gritty than the bowl I had at the Los Angeles branch. Overall you can’t deny it’s a delicious bowl of ramen. The bowl in my pictures is the Tokyo Ramen and it’s probably my favorite in this branch. Tsujita never fails to impress.

Went for dinner and while I enjoyed the vegetarian ramen, it would have been much better with veggies other than cabbage and sprouts. Did not want to pay $2 per added vegetable. The tofu roll was delicious and flavorful! They should also consider offering a vegetarian kids meal or allow for substitutions. Ended up buying another noodle bowl from which the toddler ate a few bites only.

Killer Noodle🍜 Tsujita is undeniably a standout among Japanese authentic ramen spots in The Heights, and it has quickly become one of my favorites. Introduced by a Japanese friend who frequents the place, his recommendation proved spot-on – Killer Noodle🍜 is a gem that lives up to its reputation. The spacious and well-decorated interior immediately catches my eye, showcasing attention to detail and an abundance of charming elements. The menu boasts a delightful variety, including some unique Sake brand, and the Deluxe tonkatsu Spicy Ramen stands out with its intense soup flavor. Striking the right balance, it offers comfort without overwhelming spiciness. The Classic Killer noddle featuring Dan Dan noodles, is an absolute delight, while the unexpected star for me was the Vegetarian Ramen. Clear soup, fresh ingredients – a surprising and satisfying choice. Moving beyond the noodles, the appetizers showcase unique offerings like perfectly fried calamari – crispy and textured to perfection, setting Killer Noodle🍜 apart from other Japanese places in town. The chicken or pork buns are equally praiseworthy, with delightful flavors that leave a lasting impression. The Spiral Spicy Cucumber Salad is a crowd-pleaser. As a sweet finale, the mochi ice cream is a true standout, arguably the best in town. The presentation is as exquisite as the taste – with thin, delicate skin, gelato-like texture, and a silky smooth cream on top, it's a treat for the senses. The overall service is top-notch, creating a pleasant dining experience. The token machine for kids and cute Japanese toys add a charming touch. Every visit to Killer Noodle🍜 Tsujita is a delightful adventure, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for a memorable dining experience. Bravo!

Killer Noodle Tsujita is a ramen restaurant in the Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas. The concept was started by Takehiro Tsujita who had success in Tokyo, Japan with his restaurant, Seito Masamune Tantanmen Tsujita, in 2003 and has since expanded to 18 restaurants across Japan. Tsujita wanted to bring forth a new ramen into the American community that would not be as heavy in comparison with their popular tsukemen soup (something even children could enjoy). He came up with "Killer Noodle Tsujita" in Los Angeles, California in 2017. Killer Noodle Tsujita features a style of ramen called tan tan men, which is Chinese in origin. The restaurant's signature dishes incorporate dan dan noodles with peanut butter, sesame, and Sichuan spice in the broth. It's definitely a unique style of ramen, but they also have the classics like Tonkatsu, Miso, and Chicken ramen. The restaurant itself has a private parking lot and multiple tables inside with a bar. They even have a section dedicated to toy claw machines where you can spend a dollar per chance to win! [RAMEN] +Tokyo (signature dan dan - chicken/pork broth, chili oil, Sichuan peppercorn, sesame sauce, peanut butter, vinegar, white sesame, beansprout, nikumiso, cashew, green onion, and soft boiled egg) for $15.50 - From first sip of the broth, I tasted spice, peanut butter, and sesame. This was a new experience for me. Although I enjoyed it, I would prefer a classic ramen. - 4/5 Overall, Killer Noodle Tsujita was a new type of ramen experience for me. Personally, I have never tried peanut butter in my ramen broth, but it was surprisingly pretty good. I do prefer classic ramen, but I would still recommend the experience to others if they wanted to mix things up!

Stopped in for dinner and we were not disappointed, we tried the Downtown & Tokyo bowls, we also tried the spicy Bao and chicken Karagee. Everything was made to order and very fresh. My favorite was the Karagee chicken it was so crunchy and the spicy sauce was bomb. We will be back one item of note the parking is tight and hard to maneuver it with larger car's.

Pretty good place for ramen 🤩🫶🏻 I’m extremely obsessed with the Tokyo ramen. It’s perfectly seasoned! However, the menu is quite limited comparing to other ramen restaurants. We already order all ramen flavors so I might come back for some rice bowls.

Google
Great first impressions. The restaurant is beautiful... done up in reds and black. Service was very good. We had 2 soups: the miso ramen and their signature "Tokyo" tan tan men ramen. Both were very good. The menu is interesting and I want to go back and explore their other options. Value was fair... about $15 per bowl. Update: their spicy ramen was great too, and the soft-boiled eggs were perfect.

Google
This ramen was delicious! Went there with a couple of my best friends and we had a blast! I got the Chicken Karaage, Pork Buns & Tokyo Noodle Soup... goodness, everything was so yummy! The Noodles were spicy and savory and I already want them again! And those Pork Buns, y'all!

Yelp
When I tell you I feel VERY passionately about Killer Noodle!!! This is a must-try spot for anybody that visits me in Houston. I have YET to have better ramen than this. My favorite one is the most simple - chicken ramen. It's just something about that broth!! The absolute best. Killer Noodle is also a great place to go if you're looking for something filling that won't break the bank. The restaurant gets cuter inside every time I come. I went last week and it looks like they've added a wall full of claw machines! How cool! Service is always super fast and friendly. I love love, LOOOOVE Killer Noodle!

Yelp
I wanted to try vuji cafe with a friend but they ran out of hot sandwiches and only had their desert ube pandan sandwich left. We decided to try killer noodle across the street instead. Their original location in LA is on the Michelin guide. The place was surprisingly very empty when we came in, and they seemed to be a bit limited on staff as well. I got the downtown and my friend got the Tokyo, their signature Dan dans. We got the regular soup version but you can also get them dry. Mine was supposed to b tangy and acidic with a vinegar and chili flavor while the Tokyo was supposed to be Rich's be creamy with a peanut and sesame flavor. We also got their calamari to share. The calamari came out first and it was perfectly chewy and crispy. It wasn't over cooked at all and had a nice snap. The chili sauce was more on the sweeter side though. I thought my downtown ramen was very solid. The chashu was pretty tender and the broth was flavorful and tangy. It looks like it'll light you up on fire but it's actually not that spicy. The Tokyo however was pretty spicy. It basically tan tan men ramen. My friend that her broth and chashu were too salty and I agreed. 7/10

Yelp
I came here a few weeks ago with some co-workers for lunch to celebrate a birthday and it was a good experience! When we arrived about noon, the parking lot luckily had spots for us to park despite being so small and sharing with another restaurant. We did see a delivery truck arrive and was in the lot for a while which caused some issue with some cars leaving because of how much space the truck took up but overall not too bad. when we got inside, there wasn't a host at the door to greet us, she came from the back though once she saw us walk in and said for us to sit anywhere we liked. We sat by the front window and she came over with 2 additional menus since there were 2 already on the table. Once we got a few minutes to look over the menu, she came back over and asked if we wanted anything to drink other than water and any appetizers. We ordered calamari, takoyaki and fried Tofu. All the apps came out gradually and it was all really delicious. I enjoyed the takoyaki and calamari. For entrees, I ordered the deluxe tonkatsu which had extra (6 slices) of chashu and I asked for spicy sauce on the side. When my bowl came out with my co-workers, everything was really good. I didn't feel like it was spicy enough even with the various spicy sauces and paste that was given to me. I would come back though because the broth was actually quite flavorful and I think that my boyfriend would enjoy this place also! Overall the ambiance was good and it was fairly empty inside for a lunch service so we had time and semi-privacy to talk about work related stuff while eating. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
Killer Noodle is a ramen restaurant in Heights. They have more vegan options than most other local restaurants and the ramen is more reasonably priced than some local spots, but I thought the food was just average. We tried the Veggie Tokyo which has a unique peanut flavor. You can make the regular Tokyo dish vegan. Other veggie options also include the veggie downtown, veggie ramen, and veggie spicy miso ramen. Their provided menu definitely needs an update. For example under the menu appetizer section the Edamame dish says "missing description" and you wouldn't be able to tell that the tokyo and downtown dishes can be made vegan without really reading the menu. The front parking lot is small but there is a sign that says more parking in the back. The inside is well decorated and when we visited there was no wait to be seated.

Yelp
The restaurant name caught my eye and was the perfect hot ramen spot for a chilly weekend! The front parking lot is small but you may be able to find some spots nearby. arrived for an early dinner (~6pm) and were seated right away. For appetizers, the spicy chicken buns were so tasty and good! The ramen portions did not seem as large as I remember from most places, but they were solid. We ordered the Tonkotsu - deluxe to get extra meat and egg. Love a good gooey egg with a bowl of ramen. I also wanted to order Dan Dan noodles but did not want to overload my stomach, so will have to save for next time. I instead ordered a Handroll Trio with Spicy Tuna, Unagi, and Popcorn Shrimp - did not expect the Popcorn Shrimp to be my favorite but it was the best one. In terms of price however the hand rolls were probably the least bang for buck. Fun trendy spot - we will be back again soon!

Yelp
This place has been on my "to try" list for a while. It was good but not the best Ramen I've had. It was very good though. Not pictured is the app we got which was the gyoza. 10 out of 10 must try. They were crispy and deep fried with this perfectly salty chili oil drizzled over the top. Delicious. I got the downtown Ramen and my husband tried the spicy tonkatsu. We liked the downtown more than the spicy tonkatsu. The downtown was spicy also. I ordered some chili oil on the side to put in my Ramen and it was perfect. I thought the downtown might be too peanut butter forward but it was not.

Yelp
It's decent, especially for the area. I had the Tokyo Dan Dan Noodles and the flavor was good, a little greasy but not too bad. If you want some quick noodles or ramen and you're in the heights, I would go. If you're willing to drive, then there are better spots in Houston. It does have a cool sports bar vibe with a full bar, tvs, cool decor etc. Our waiter was pretty good. We needed things a few times and had a hard time getting his attention, but for the most part he was good.

Yelp
HOUSTON, TX 77008 / JAPANESE, RAMEN / 12-09-23 / LUNCH +The ramen broths were pretty good. -The bao buns were cold. -MSG overload. We were so sleepy and groggy for a few hours. -Sodium overload; everyone was thirsty for the remainder of the day. I felt so terrible for the little ones. -There was a piece of hair in one of the little kid's bento ramen meals. What we ordered: 2 kids ramen $22.00 1 chicken bun $4.00 1 pork bun $4.00 1 regular Tokyo w/Soup $15.50 1 regular Downtown w/Soup $15.50 Total: $75.21 post tax plus tip

Yelp
Rounding up to 3 stars, but definitely more like 2.5. I had high hopes for this place given that the LA location is Michelin star rated, but sadly, I was disappointed with my visit. I came here on a Friday afternoon around 1 pm and only one other customer was dining in, which was the first red flag. We got seated and perused the menu, which had many dishes that sounded really good. My husband and I started off with several appetizers and both went with the deluxe spicy tonkotsu ramen for our entrees. *Karaage ($8.50) - Reviews said this was good so we decided to try it. $8.50 for basically 4-5 pieces of decent karaage. Nothing special about this so I wasn't sure what the hype was. *Pork bun ($4 each) - We got one spicy and one regular pork. Honestly, this might have been one of the most tasteless pork buns I've ever had. Bland chashu, cucumbers, and purple cabbage and not enough sauce at all. I would not recommend this at all. *Spiral spicy cucumber ($6) - This was decent, but could've used a bit more salt or flavor as it tasted heavily of sesame oil. Probably wouldn't order this again. *Edamame/French Fries - Since we ordered this for our kids, we asked if we could just order the French fries and edamame plain instead of the Killer French Fries and the spicy miso edamame. You can't really mess up edamame or french fries. *Kids ramen ($11) - This came with a small bowl of noodles and clear broth, one piece of karaage, French fries, mixed veggies, and juice. The noodles were clumped together when it came out, which made it hard for my toddler to try and eat. Not sure if this kids meal is quite worth the $11 for what you're really getting. *Deluxe Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen ($19.50) - I was hopeful that the main attraction would make up for the mediocre appetizers we tried, but I was disappointed once again. The broth lacked flavor and the thin chashu slices would've been better if they had been grilled first or something since they were super soft and fatty. They have a variety of toppings that you can add on for $2/each. Overall, I was highly disappointed and left here wondering what in the world did we just spend over $100 on. I really wanted to like this place, but will most likely not be returning here again.

Yelp
Anytime I've been to a ramen restaurant I usually only get Gyoza because I'm never sure of what to try and I don't like being rushed when ordering something new. Today I decided I have to try something besides Gyoza (i still ordered it tho lol). Sam (Our server) was not only helpful, he was also knowledgeable of the dishes and extremely patient with all my questions. He gave his top 3 recommendations and even explained how they can add or remove items but not substitute one for another. What we ordered: The best Gyoza I have ever tasted! They were crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside with a hint of heat Karaage: Fried chicken thighs that came with a spicy habanero sauce. Tokyo and Spicy chicken ramen with the spicy on the side. At 1st i was like ahh but after being told i need to mix everything together; it was ooh ok mmm! I definitely enjoyed my food and the Sam was amazing! My only complaint is it was really hot inside but after mentioning how hot it was; we started to feel some air circulate. 2 appetizers and 2 ramens was a little over $40. Thats not bad. I will definitely go back to try other options

Yelp
The side sauce was ok but not great. We asked for pork three times and still got a fried chicken rice bowl. So disappointed... Our waitress asked if we wanted forks and then proceeded to tell us, there are chopsticks over there. This was my cheat night to treat myself and I am disappointed We could have gotten fast food for this.
google avatar

Nisha J.

Yelp
Had to visit while in Houston and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the meals. We ordered the gyoza (actually 2 orders... they were so good!), the buns - we tried every flavor but agreed the pork ones were better than the chicken ones. The karaage is also a must get item! Now, for the ramen, we had 2 orders of spicy chicken ramen and the Tokyo and the Downtown. Now, we have to say the chicken ramen did not come with an egg (Ajitama) so we each ordered an egg BUT didn't realize that meant a whole egg vs half (maybe its common knowledge to the avid ramen eater but not us). The spicy chicken ramen was delicious and a good spice level. The Tokyo and Downtown were on their signature lists but still tasty. If not a fan of peanut butter, then it may not be for you, but I tried some of the Downtown and it was good.
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
Honestly it's a 3.5 but it won't let me and I didn't want to round up. I want to give it one more chance because our waiter was amazing. The kid's meal is great. My toddler loved all of it from the ramen with the chicken broth to the veggies and fries. My specialty ramen with the signature peanut broth was decent. I honestly didn't love it but I don't love a thick broth so it was probably my fault.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I was expecting more from this place, and this could be my fault, but overall, the items we ordered (and we ordered ALOT) was just missing something each time. Ambiance - 4.5/5 - Great, large space that can accommodate big groups. Staff - 4/5 Friendly when they came around. It wasn't busy at all, so I was surprised that we had to flag down our waitress a few times. Food - 3/5 - What we ordered: Karaage - 4/5 - Nothing special here. Almost $10, so I was expecting a larger quantity. Pork Bun - 1/5 - Do not recommend. Just lacked flavor overall. Save the $4. Edamame - 4/5 - Ordered for the kids. Great for kids. Spiral Cucumber (spicy) - 3/5 - Not spicy, and alot of sesame oil. It looks cool though. Would not get this again. Kid's Ramen - 3.5/5 - Not worth the price, but comes with several items along with the ramen. The broth was okay. Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen - 3/5 - I decked it out.....pretty much $20. Extra Chashu and noodles......and unfortunately, again, lacked flavor. I was very surprised about that. Sake - 0/5. It was in a children's milk carton. You ever drink Sake through a straw?? Good. DONT. The best part about this place is that you can order ghost pepper powder and they give you alot. It is VERY spicy, and very much needed. Overall, I unfortunately would not come back again based on the lack of flavor and the price.

Yelp
Love myself some downtown noodles. They recently redid the menu it seemed form when I originally visited. I love the peanut butter aspect of the broth. The eggs are nicely cooked. My husband had one of the non peanut butter ones this visit which was a good flavor also. The service has not been great any of my visits. They typically only have two wait staff no matter how busy it may be in there. Luckily the food is decent.
google avatar

Yelp
A new ramen spot in the heights! Amazing. I have been waiting to try this place since it was highly regarded at their LA location. The parking lot is fairly small just as a warning. They have a special Dan Dan ramen where they put a twist and add peanut butter to their soup. It does taste like Dan Dan noodles and the broth is very different from a traditional ramen. I also got the tonkatsu which was fantastic! Loved the noodle consistency and the rich flavor of the broth. This might be my new go to ramen spot in the heights!!! We also got the cucumber which was also very very good. My only issue is it comes in one long piece which makes it a little harder to share if you wanted
google avatar

Josh N.

Yelp
First off my apologies for not taking a photo after ai mixed the broth lol. I poured it in and then it disappeared. That should tell you if I like it or not. But i like the inside area of the restaurant and the wait staff there was nice. I ordered a side of wings, Spicy chicken ramen and spicy miso ramen. The wings were okay for me, but both ramens had a nice kick to them and I really liked the flavor from of both. That was my first time there, but I will definitely be back when I need that quick fix for some spicy ramen.
google avatar

Brittney D.

Yelp
I wasn't blown away. Also, I'm no ramen expert. My honey got the wangs, he liked them. Two word review: get wangs
google avatar

Himadri G.

Yelp
Unfortunately not my favorite place to get ramen. Our service was great, the ambiance was fair. They had these cool lights on the table, lots of seating. The vegan downtown that I opted for was just not amazing, I think it was the Sichuan peppercorn which became overpowering. My friends opted for the regular vegan ramen and other meat options. They also felt it was okay. I'd be down to try it again, but I'm not craving for it. Would love to be proven wrong!
google avatar

Tiffany M.

Yelp
I wouldn't say this is my top ramen spot but I had "The Tokyo" and I fell in love with that specific soup because it has peanuts! When I read that I was skeptical but I'm not one to shy away from an interesting dish.. I'm not usually into creamy soups but oh boy I love The Tokyo! The calamari is also delicious and the cocktails are strong. The parking is terrible though that's probably my only complaint. Service is always great and the servers always have some awesome recommendations.
google avatar

Zanarah K.

Yelp
Not the greatest fan, had better ramen. Lychee martinis were more on the rose side. Parking in front.
google avatar

Lisa J.

Yelp
I wanted to add an important footnote to this review. Even though I politely gave this place a five star review, I really shouldn't have . Should've been more like 3 stars..Not because the service wasn't good , or that I didn't have a pleasant experience. The food was decent, but not five star noteworthy. The only reason I gave it five stars was because the server "bribed" me into giving it five at the time because he offered 10% off the bill. And the ramen was overpriced for the taste , and so I accepted it at the time. In retrospect, I shouldn't have taken the offer because I always give honest and credible feedback! Thus the reason for this update. Thus the reason for the update.
google avatar

Emmy S.

Yelp
First off lemme say that this place has amazing service. I visited because of social media. But the food is just not up to par, the karaage tasted quite plain. And as for the ramen, the noodles were too thick for my liking and the broth lacked flavor! Also the area its located in is under construction so navigating this place can be quite overwhelming. Glad I got to try it but I'm not sure if I'd come back
google avatar

Roma B.

Yelp
Got the Tokyo style Dan Dan ramen and the spicy pork and spicy chicken baos. Loved the spicy chicken bao, the chicken was very crispy and paired well with the sauce. The ramen was tasty too, portion size was huge! Plenty for two people to share. The pork chashu wasn't very flavorful, but the peanut butter based broth made up for it!
google avatar

Jordan Z.

Yelp
"Michelin star noodles" is the phrase that brought us into Killer Noodle on Monday night. After reading many reviews, I opted to not get the Toyko noodles since I typically don't like peanut butter flavored noodles. However my friend said they were very good. We loved the long marinaded cucumbers and I enjoyed my tonkatsu style ramen. Very tasty broth and I love adding Chile oil. Overall, I would eat again. Just a tad pricier than others in town.
google avatar

Cassie X.

Yelp
Eh I was pretty disappointed with this place. I had the spicy tonkotsu which was actually pretty good. The chasu wasn't overly fat and the broth was pretty tasty. My husband had the miso ramen which I also tried and this was not good. He said it may have been the worst ramen he's had. I wouldn't go that far but it was way too heavy and creamy for a miso ramen. Service is good and fast.

Yelp
To-go/Takeaway review and Differences with LA location. Overall the food was great! We both go T Downtown. It was slightly acidic but more so creamy, rich, umami nutty. However, for those interested in the experience... To begin, they don't take to go orders over the phone so you must come inside or you can place an order online. This was my first time trying this location, but I tried the original location in LA 2 weeks prior and it was phenomenal. There are differences however. In LA, I could choose between two different types of noodles, here I could not. Also in LA there is a wide range of spice levels based on heat and numbing sensation, here there is only one level of spice. (This was rather disappointing). This location does have a lot more variety and selection than LA so that's a plus! Another part of my experience was there are no substitutions for cheaper topping suggestions or even with the option to upcharge. The website said the food would take 25-35 minutes. My order was ready 60 minutes after it was placed. I would go back, but only to eat in person. The staff was very kind, and apologized about my wait.

Yelp
I had been chomping at the bit to try this restaurant out . The first time I tried to come in while I was in the area, the construction situation on Shepherd made difficult to get in and out of the parking lot. What was worse was that the small lot was full by 11am so I couldn't figure out alternatives to park and had to leave. This traffic experience made not want to come back. That's what delivery services like Uber Eats are for. I ordered both the vegetarian versions of the Downtown and Tokyo ramens without any additions. I was impressed by the sustainable packaging but did not want to pour the reheated hot broths into them since it looked like moisture was already bleeding through. I also saw these clumps of what looked like meat and wondered if there was a mistake or that these were faux meat. This is a concern. As for the taste. Both broths tasted really good. The Tokyo was heavy on the peanut flavour. I was concerned about the downtown broth being too sour given its description of vinegar and spice since I've had terribly sour noodle dishes before. It wasn't too sour, you taste more the citrus from the sichuan peppercorn. I think I prefer the Downtown as a result.
google avatar

Theresa V.

Yelp
LA restaurant comes to Htown. They're known for their tokyo noodles -- a play on dandan noodles. A good balance of flavors, not terribly spicy but definitely has the Sichuan numbing sensation. The noodles have a good qq texture. We also got the tonkatsu ramen, which was very good as well. Not salty at all! The eggs are also well seasoned and one of the best ramen eggs we've had. Will have to come back to try the appetizers. Not a lot of parking in the front, but theres more in the back. Unfortunately the Heights construction is right in front.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed in the service and management at this location. We will not be returning, nor recommending. I came as a party of 7 today. The food is NOT up to standard. The LA location allows you to choose spice and numb levels, but this Houston location must not want to do a decent job at their business. They charge for every teaspoon for ghost powder and the server did not know whether or not to charge for the numb powder. The server was absolutely incompetent. 6/7 of our bowls came out and the last bowl took 20 additional minutes. They gave different excuses for why the bowl was late, including not having cooked noodles. I'm sorry but that is your CORE BUSINESS. Why are the noodles not ready at 1pm? Server did not really apologize or offer to comp the bowl. Only when asked did they comp 1 drink and 1 topping. That's worth like $4. Is this charity? I hope you really turn your operation around here because my family walked away very frustrated after we drove across town to come dine here. I will not be returning. There is no standard of service provided. Nobody apologized for the lack of service either.

Yelp
First of all, let me just say the parking here is atrocious. Like the construction makes the entrance pretty terrible, but there's like maybe 15 parking spaces in the front. They have more in the back apparently, but it looks yucky. Place is clean, menu is simple. The tonkatsu is slightly creamy and the noodles have good chew, though a bit thicker than I like. Not really enough ingredients to warrant the price tag imo. 3 slices of chasu, but flavorless and colorless like they just boiled it or something. I would not recommend the pork bun at all. Lychee tee is very sweet, but I don't mind. Service was polite and the food came out really quick. Like 5 minutes quick o.o. overall enjoyed the ramen broth enough to come again in the future.

Yelp
Tae was amazing and the food was just as fabulous! The flavors are phenomenal and delicious! The ambience is fun and inviting. We tried the Downtown, Tokyo and Ramen. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. We WILL be back!!!

Yelp
I was in the area and looking for a good Ramen place to try. Killer Noodle came up in my Yelp search and was very close to my hairdresser, so I decided to give it a shot. The menu was quite easy and to the point without too many choices. Being that it was my first time there, I was unsure what to order. The server recommended the downtown. She said that it was popular, so I decided to go with the masses and also order the downtown. The ramen arrived pretty quickly in just the right size bowl. It was piping hot, just like a bowl of ramen should be. No one wants to eat cold ramen. I also must take this moment to admit that I don't know how to use chopsticks. So, as the server was putting my bowl on the table, I was finishing up my second video on how to use chopsticks. Am I an expert now? No, not even close. But I was able to get a couple of chopsticks full of noodles to my mouth without making too much of a mess on the front of my shirt. Back to the reason why you're here, the food review. The Downtown noodles threw me for a loop for a minute there. I wasn't expecting them to be spicy, but if I had read that they have chili oil flavoring in them, I may have been prepared. They weren't too spicy, I just wasn't expecting it. After the initial shock, they were actually really good. It has a great blend of vinegar and chili oil flavoring that made it the perfect balance of tangy and acidic. It's the kind of blend that you'll crave. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I feel like I'm being nice here by giving three stars just bc of how underwhelming the ramen was for all this "Michelin" hype. I had given up on any other ramen in America besides my beloved samurai, but a friend sent me a silly influencer video and I decided I'd be nice and go with her. We got there at 6 on a weekday and had no problem getting a table. It's got a kinda barren feel inside but it's ramen so it's not supposed to be fancy. I decided to try the spicy miso and my friend and I shared some takoyaki and spicy edamame. Everything was average and not something that would make me want to have it again. In fact, my ramen had an overwhelming sweet flavor I couldn't pin point except perhaps from the miso which I expected more salty umami flavor from (my preferred miso flavor). Perhaps the only saving grace from coming here and the reason I'm not giving this a 2 stars is the service isn't bad (this poor boy spilled water on our table and said he'd come back but forgot which didn't really bother me but potentially worth noting; you can feel the youth of the staff) and they can do a nice soft boiled seasoned egg. I'm super picky with ramen so this probably is more catered to American taste buds but it's not authentic to my choice in ramen (I only had two styles in Japan) and I wouldn't recommend to people who want more salty umami flavor profile.

Yelp
We ordered the Chashu Bowl when we came here. The image on the menu showed many slices of chashu in the bowl. We got only THREE small pieces. Not at all like what was advertised. When asked about the portion size, the waitress informed us that "the image was taken at a different angle so it looks like that." Thank you for the false advertising. I was told extra slices would cost $4.50 extra. Please update your menu to reflect the three slices of chashu.

Yelp
After a fun martini and yummy cucumber salad, the soup was a big hit! The peanut flavor makes it much different than other restaurants I've been to, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The waitress had good recommendations, especially when the martini I originally chose wasn't available.

Yelp
Came in with high expectations; I've been to their shops in LA previously. This location is in the heart of the Heights on Shepherd. Parking space is available and the exterior and interior looks good. That's where the good stops. Service: the wait staff is very disorganized and slow. We had a large table and it took flagging down waiters for anyone to help us order. We also had half of our food forgotten and had to wait to eat even though everyone got the same ramen. Apps were the karage and takoyaki. Flavors were fine but for the price, the portions were tiny. The ramen was $14 for a standard size (it's small) and you need to pay extra for a large (looks like a normal size). There's no chashu that comes with the bowl; you pay $4.50 for a couple slices. That's ludicrous. An extra egg is $2.00 and cilantro is $2.00. You pretty much just volunteered for a $30 bowl of ramen, which is insane. The value is minuscule. On top of all that, your egg comes to you with a shell! Your poached egg requires you to crack it personally, which is crazy. Not only is the egg lifeless and cold, it's also raw and undercooked. I ditched by egg and didn't even put it in the ramen for fear of an upset stomach. This location really needs to step up to match how they are in California. Would not be coming back.

Yelp
Not a whole lot glowing to say here for this new to Houston Ramen joint. Came on a cool rainy week day, perfect soup weather, definitely in the mindset to enjoy the cuisine. That being said, we ordered a couple of lychee teas that we were told they were out of before they just ended up being brought out to us. Severely over sweetened. Seems like they use a lychee syrup on an already sweetened iced tea, please tone it down with the sugar. Apps came out good. Takoyaki was as expected and the karaage was crunchy on the outside with moist chicken inside. Things fell apart after that. The price gouging in the toppings for the soup felt a little insulting. Added Pork Chashu, 2 "poached eggs", and cilantro. $4.50, $4, and $2 respectively. That's basically $30 for a bowl of average ramen. The pork was plainly presented, should've just added it to the bowl instead of putting to the side. The poached eggs needed to be cracked yourself. I'll say it again; The poached egg needed be cracked and unshelled by you. Any standard ramen restaurant includes the grilled pork and soft boiled egg in the price of the bowl to begin with, and doesn't make you scrape shells off to eat it. Lastly, $2 for cilantro; see picture for how absurd that is. You can get a whole bushel at H‑E‑B for 99¢. Soup itself was fine. And the wait staff was obviously trying hard, but just didn't fit the upscale Japanese vibe they wanted to present.

Yelp
You won't be disappointment having the ramen here! If you're looking for ramen that reminds you of mabo tofu and peanut noodles- this is a great place to be! If what I said just now confused you- this is still a great place to be (to find out)! They also have vegetarian options as well! Parking is definitely limited... may have to street park or park in the back and walk a little. For appetizer, we got the chicken karaage- highly recommend. Super crispy on the outside, very juicy and tender on the inside. Came with a side of a red sauce- had some kick. Did not disappoint! Kinda reminded me of bigger versions of Taiwanese popcorn chicken. I got the regular Tokyo style at mild, with additions of poached egg (comes unpeeled, they also tell you that you peel it yourself too), and a side of chashu (thinly slices pork belly). I was attached to the peanut flavor- for those of you who have never tried it before, just trust me- it doesn't disappoint (as long as you're not allergic to peanuts, nor hate the taste of it... but I feel like you'd convert if you hate peanut butter after getting this. Just my opinion). With the MILD- it wasn't spicy at all, I think I definitely got some flavor but not the kick. The medium has a nice little kick to it, so if you're looking for at least some kick, get the medium spice level! Definitely reminds me of mabo tofu (IYKYK). For the regular size- I actually couldn't even finish it! It was really tasty, but because it's so rich, it fills you up really fast! For the sides: The noodles themselves come as pictured and as is, and if you want any additions, it comes on the side on individual plates where you can add them yourself. I personally prefer everything in the bowl- but that's just me. Too if you're getting the poached egg- just crack and peel park of it and (make sure the small pieces of the cracked eggshells are peeled off as much as you can) and then just gently shake it into your bowl and it'll come out, maybe with a slight help with one chopstick since some of the egg whites might be stuck inside. The chashu was okay, I would say pretty average. It was super moist (lol), tender, but I don't know if it's worth $4.50 for three small pieces of chashu though. If I were to come again though, I probably would have still added it to my ramen! Service was pretty good! From the previous reviews I've read, it seemed that service has improved. Given that this is a pretty new place and they probably just needed some time to adjust and get things running- the service was pretty great when we came here on a Sunday evening! Checked up on us frequently, everyone was pretty kind and got us what we needed and were careful with our food. Everything came out at the same time pretty quickly. Ambiance was pretty great too, got tables and booths, they have a small drink menu. I really liked their red chandelier, haha random but it was pretty. Definitely should try it out!

Yelp
When coming here, you may have to park behind the Restoraunt or across the street, otherwise it's quite spacious inside. There were a lot of open seats when I came here to eat for lunch. The menu was very straight forward I recommended that you get something with soup, as no soup is almost spaghetti-like, however it is still pretty good. Service here was amazing, as I had some dirty spoons probably due to poorly washing through a machine, but my waiter was quick to replace everything on my table before I even got my food. SUPERB! The dish I ordered was the Tokyo Style with Soup. I chose mild spice, but it was still kind of spicy and kickin', it had a peanut crunch to the texture and flavor, the soup was very comforting to say the least. Additionally I wanted to note that even though "Tokyo" is in the title of my dish, it was defiantly a Chinese style Ramen bowl. Regardless I really did enjoy this Ramen dish, so much that I've been back twice just for this bowl. A word of advice Mild is still spicy, but in a good zingy way and Spicy is too spicy for me as it does gets quite hot (Scoville).

Yelp
When you taste the broth, you can really tell they put a lot of time and effort into it. It's very rich and nutty and it's nothing like I've had at other ramen places. The noodles are also cooked to a perfect chewy texture. I had the downtown style with soup and I loved the bamboo shoots in it. My one thing about this place is that they charge $4.50 on top of the price of the ramen for chashu pork... For a ramen that is already $14, charging more than 25% of the price of the bowl for some pork sounds like a bit too much for me. Compared to other ramen places where the chashu already comes with the bowl, I'm not sure the broth alone is enough to make me want to come back. We also ordered the fried chicken appetizer and you would've thought their was some sweet & sour sauce shortage with little amount of sauce they provided. It seemed a bit stingy and I would rather they give more than not enough, but maybe I'm just a saucy person who likes my sauces. The service is pretty fast. Parking here is difficult on a busy weekend night. There's dessert places nearby if you want stuff not on their dessert menu! Their staff also seem really new to the whole waiteressing/server positions, but they also just opened, so that's probably why.

Yelp
We were in the area and heard great things about this place so we decided to stop by for a quick dinner! I got the Tokyo ramen, which is one of their signature ramen dishes and my boyfriend got the deluxe spicy tonkatsu ramen and we both really enjoyed ours! The Tokyo ramen is unique to this place since they use peanut butter so the ramen had a distinct peanut-y taste with a kick. The service was quick and efficient, our server Angelo made sure to check in on us multiple times during the meal.

Yelp
Founded in Tokyo, this chain made its way to LA and now finally to Houston! This was honestly a delicious place for us! They also offer vegetarian ramen options here as well! I got the Tokyo Style with soup, which was a rich and creamy chicken & pork broth that had chili oil, Sichuan pepper-corn, sesame sauce, and peanut butter. I added on chashu pork and a poached egg. There's different levels of spiciness options ranging from no spice to killer (!!!) but I settled for a mild haha. This was such a savory and rich nutty broth. I'm kind of picky with my ramen usually, but I really enjoyed it and I loved how it wasn't too creamy! My bf got the Downtown Style with soup, which was a tangy and acidic chicken & pork broth with chili oil, peppercorn, and the sesame sauce with peanut butter as well. He also added on chashu pork & a poached egg. He went for a medium spiciness and definitely felt a little kick to it. He really enjoyed it as well and we were actually very shocked by how big the noodle portions were. It definitely was a two-meal portion for both of us and we love that! We also couldn't resist trying out the takoyaki, which was very nicely made -- crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. Although we wished it had more octopus inside! The ramen left us SO full but we had to try out the Japanese shaved ice, Raspberry Kakigori. They also offer it in Black Sugar as well! It is milk-shaved ice with mascarpone cream. If you love shaved ice, you have to try this out! Just bring a lactaid if you're like me, but honestly, so worth it. It's a lot milkier than other shaved ice we have tried and makes it so creamy and rich! Our cocktails were a bit strong, but pretty and tasty nonetheless! My bf had the #2 Niji, which was rum, vodka, curaçao, and pineapple. I had the Mai taisho, which was with rum, grenadine, orange, and pineapple. Thanks for inviting us out! #invited

Yelp
The recently opened Killer Noodle Tsujita has come to do battle with the established Ramen joints of Houston-- and while slightly pricier, it brings great noodle texture, generous portions, and rich broth. The ambiance is modern, as is expected for a new establishment in the Heights. Tinted floor to ceiling windows strike a balance between private and open in this establishment. Bar seating is adequate, but the layout of the restaurant could definitely accommodate more seating--not really a complaint, as we felt that it was plenty of space for us. The waitstaff had a touch of Southern friendliness, which came as unexpected for some reason. However, they seemed a bit green when handling menus and payment systems--we trust this will improve with time. We appreciated the menu was small--dishes came out quickly and were consistently good. We started with the Kara-Age chicken, which was a delicious fried chicken nugget dish. The meat was flavorful and struck a good balance between breading and juiciness. The sauce and lemon juice paired well, but the chili sauce tasted suspiciously like Chin-su, which can be had as a bottle for 2.99 at local markets. On to the main course-- the Tokyo ramen has great, incredibly rich and peanuty broth; peanut allergics beware! In comparison, the Downtown ramen features spice more, with a cleaner, lighter mouthfeel. Both are very, very filling, and will take a large man from 0 to 100%. The noodles have a distinct texture, and are on the firmer side--this is what makes this place stand out from the others. The ramen had a couple shortcomings-- first, the ground beef in the ramen could have been more, and it also seemed to fall to the bottom of the broth once mixed in. This made for an experience where there was a low meat-to-noodle ratio at first, then too high a ratio at the end. The amount of green onion and bean sprout could have been much, much more. Parking here can be limited. Nice details included high-quality wooden chopsticks and the waitstaff automatically including utensils when we boxed up our ramen to go. TLDR; New competitor to Houston ramen scene gives distinct noodle texture, good portion and rich broth at the cost of strange onion/beansprout ratio.

Yelp
Came here since everyone has been raving about the ramen and was pleasantly surprised. Good portion sizes albeit slightly disappointed to hear they no longer have the different spice levels (though they do offer you additional red chili oil if desired). The karaage was juicy and the sauce it came with had a great spicy kick. Cheese rolls were interesting but nothing I would necessarily order again. Downtown ramen had more mala spice and citrus undertones than the Tokyo ramen, but both were very peanut butter based creamy flavors. Service was fast and no cash is accepted. Not bad ramen but not as hype as I thought it would be

Yelp
We went during opening weekend. Service was actually pretty good for a grand opening. Everyone was friendly and our server was very attentive. We were seated without menus and after about 5 minutes I had to flag someone down to ask for menus. They brought us a small tray of chopsticks, soup spoons and cocktail napkins. After I ate about half of my ramen, I had to ask for more napkins. It was hot inside the restaurant and I saw several others fanning themselves with menus as well. The chicken Karaage was delicious and piping hot. It came with a sweet and spicy sauce. Not traditional dipping sauce but still good. The original style ramen was ok. I ordered spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all. Had to request the ghost pepper powder to add. The add ons come on the side rather than in the bowl. You have to peel your own egg. The chashu pork was very fatty. The kakigoti dessert was yummy and refreshing - not too sweet. Will come back to try some other dishes.

Yelp
Rating food and service - if service only 5 stars Greeted as soon as we walked in and fortunately for us we did not have to wait for a table. Seated and drink orders taken right away. Menus is not huge so makes ordering simple. Choose the style then with or without soup then heat level and toppings. Tokyo Style - creamy and lots of peanut butter flavor. I got medium - a little kick. I was not a fan of the noodle. It was kind of stiff. Also contains minced meat and some other minced items. So the items you expect to see in a bowl of ramen are all toppings which are an extra cost. Ramen with Soup Regular $14 for large is $15.50. Toppings: egg $2. onion $2, cilantro $2, pork $4.50.... Karaage Chicken rice bowl - kid size or snack size Takoyaki - 4 pieces - good size but there was just a small piece of octopus inside. Service wait staff was very friendly and checked on us several times. Parking is limited

Yelp
Why did it close?!? It was the best ramen and noodles. Makes me sad to see especially with the authentic flavor
