Socal Burger Chain Expands Into Hermosa Beach’s Iconic Mermaid Bar | Eater LA

"A niche restaurant concept with about 20 years of success built around a single signature shrimp dish—fresh shrimp cooked to order in a secret spicy sauce—that drew loyal lines night after night. The operator rented the space adjacent to the longtime beachside dive in 2014 and later took over that venue, but ran into major costs to meet local codes and was denied use of city parking lots for special events; facing high rent and city-related disputes, the operation abruptly closed in September 2017." - Mona Holmes

9/30/25 I was in town for business and wanted to have a nice dinner with my friend. Since she was dog sitting we needed a pet friendly spot and Killer Shrimp was perfect with their outdoor patio. The ambiance was very welcoming, inviting, and causal. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, shrimp tacos, mini crab cakes, and a garden salad with vinaigrette. Everything was absolutely delicious and so fresh. Our waitress Kali was so friendly and attentive which made the experience even better. The whole evening was top notch and I would definitely come back again.

After a night ride on my buddy’s boat in the marina, we docked right outside Killer Shrimp and headed in for dinner. 🚤 The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, and the service was awesome—everyone was so friendly. I ordered the enchiladas and they were amazing—definitely my new favorite dish here! 🌮🔥 The appetizers were great, and the drinks hit the spot 🍹🍺. Between the location, the food, and the service, this place is a gem. I’ll definitely be back and will be bringing my family and friends next time. 👏

The Baseline: For a seafood fine dining the fish/seafood needs to be fresh, the presentation must excel beyond a casual seafood place, there must be a selection of accompanying offerings, and there are unique offerings. Food: The Original Shrimp is what you come here for. Shrimp. Spicy broth base. Bread. That is the original with all its glory and I can remember when it was on the second story of a strip mall sitting above a Subway and Tajrish Kabob House. If you get the original it still holds up to my memories of it at its original location. Also the fries and lobster roll were good. The Snickers Pie was a decent desert. The Original is what holds up the food rating. Service: The service was fine but we had a bit of waiting and we had to ask for the desert menu rather than have it offered. I also had to ask for water refills. Ambiance: As much as I had nostalgia for the Washington Blvd location, eating your meal while overlooking the marina is far superior. This is a great location that the owners are really using to its best for the square footage of this place. The building holds the Killer Cafe (breakfast place) and a Speakeasy (bar). It is a great location. Relatively clean bathroom.

This was our first time visiting this restaurant, and all the food made us feel so happy—it was truly delicious and definitely worth coming back for. The service was also very thoughtful, as the staff even changed our plates midway through the meal. However, the only disappointment came at the end. We had ordered a skewer dish that never arrived, so we reminded the server. He told us we hadn’t ordered it, so we placed the order again. Later, when the bill came, we saw two skewers charged. We explained to the server that we had only ordered one. After checking, he came back and told us in a very serious tone that he had given us two, but since we had raised the issue, he wouldn’t pursue it further. The problem is—we really only received and ate one skewer! When the server left with an unhappy attitude, it left us feeling that such a wonderful meal ended on a very unfortunate note.

I always enjoy the food and easy to get seating in the bar area. Can be noisey at times but otherwise great food, drinks. Great happy hour as well! and atmospBathrooms could use an upgrade otherwise they have a cool speakeasy next doorautiful views with outdoor seating

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We’ve been coming to Killer Shrimp in the Marina for a while, and honestly the service here has always been hit or miss. But Tiffany completely changed our outlook on this place. She truly brightened our day with her warm, bubbly personality and outstanding service. She put the Happy in Happy Hour! The view and the Happy Hour specials are already amazing, but Tiffany is the reason we’ll be coming back—just on the days we know she’s serving. Killer Shrimp, take note: she’s a gem!

What can I say about this place? The food is great, the atmosphere is inviting, and the cocktails are generous. Watching the boats go by adds a relaxing touch, and the overall ambiance is perfect for celebrating special occasions.

The photo I posted looked nice, but the reality was far from it. The place smelled like beer—definitely not classy or a pleasant spot to sit. It had no style whatsoever. It’s supposed to be the kind of place where you get fresh, delicious seafood, but that was not the case. We ordered a fish stew—lobster, shrimp, and crab—for $49, and it was honestly one of the most disgusting meals I’ve ever had. The broth was tasteless and downright gross. It was like eating water from a garbage bin. What’s wrong with them? Overall, it felt like nobody cared—neither the chef nor the servers. It was half empty on a Saturday afternoon, which says a lot. Maybe this place was good years ago, but now it’s just dirty, old, and horrible. Avoid it.

Yelp
Food was delicious!!! Our service was good and we sat next to the window which was a great view. It was in the evening, so the lighting was perfect but not too low. We ordered the seafood enchiladas 10/10, the seafood stew 15/10!! And appetizers were good as well, we had Mac n cheese croquettes but it's really like a Mac n cheese ball. If you're from the south, you know what croquettes are! Overall, everything was great!! I'm still craving the stew!! Ohhh and the drinks were decent, the waitress recommended a nice cocktail.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place for the first time, but was turned off immediately - Yelp says private parking lot, but on a Friday at 3pm it's already valet parking only when you pull into the lot. Apparently, there's self-parking available, but no signs. Valet is $9, which is steep. We were intentionally trying to hit between the lunch and dinner crowd. Food was meh. I've had shrimp in a bag before, and just tried the broth and bread of my friends, so I opted for a lobsta roll. My benchmarks are Boston lobsta rolls and the Cousin's truck here in So Cal. Killer Shrimp's lobsta roll is $30 with cole slaw and tater tots. About $10 more than the Cousins truck. The brioche roll was more like garlic bread, not the brioche hot dog buns you get in Boston. The lobsta was kinda dry, and not big chunks. I should've gotten something else. Not sure if they weigh the original shrimp bowls or what, but my friends got different number of shrimp. 8-12 shrimp. That's quite variable. I liked the broth, so maybe I'll try that if I go again (not likely unless I meet the same friends). My friend added a lobsta tail to an entree for $17 and it was bigger than I thought since the pics on Yelp look like a Sizzler lobster. That might vary too, if by weight. Looked good. Ambiance is nice, I would've like to sit outside if possible, but we had a big table inside. They advertise great views of the marina, but we didn't have a window table, we were about 10 ft from a window. Service needs a bit of work - never came to check on us or refill our drinks, which is kinda key when you're serving up spicy shrimp. After we were done, they cleared the table gearing up for the dinner crowd. Not rude like some places that tell you there's a time limit, but it was obvious they wanted us to move along. Yelp says "tipping optional" and "tipping optional for large parties" but beware the menu says 18% added for groups of 6+ and a service charge was added to the bill along with a line for "additional tip." I didn't do the math to check the actual percentage of the service charge. Although this place is famous, I can see why it's only 3-stars. I've been to mom n pop Boiling Crab copycats that were better.

Yelp
Always a great meal, usually get the original Killer Shrimp, today we ended up with Killer Shrimp and Lobster. Lobster was sweet, tender and succulent, same great broth, just a lobster and some vor on the cob added. Service is always fantastic, view is nice, outside patio for nice days. Prices are reasonable.

Yelp
June 26, 2025 | Marina del Rey | Fantastic views, amazing customer service & delicious food, it's a vibe! Killer Shrimp is an amazing restaurant that I love going to often & have enjoyed for years! Beet Salad: Absolutely delicious, as I am a lover of beets! The combination of ingredients: colorful red & yellow beets, pine nuts, heirloom tomatoes,, & blue cheese! Top it off with honey lime vinaigrette dressing and it's a winner! The salad is huge and easily a meal for me, alongside, tasty sweet potato fries!! Salmon: Tender, tasty & mouthwatering each time I've ordered! The seemingly whipped, garlic mashed potatoes are divine! I also love the mango relish, yummy! Sweet Potato Fries: Yummy! I love getting the sweet potato fries as a side whenever I order the beet salad! It's a great combo! I've even asked for spicy sweet potato fries, and they're even better if you're up for the challenge and like it hot!! Popcorn Shrimp: Yum, mouthwatering, especially when dipped into the cocktail sauce! Plentiful as well! I easily take home leftovers! Views: I love the Marina views! The boat/yachts are always incredible to see when dining on the patio, which I love, as well as views from a few tables inside as well! Customer Service: Giana is always full of happy energy! It's always fun to see her whenever stepping inside of Killer Shrimp! She's personality plus and easily puts a smile on your face!! I've had great experience with every single server every single time I've dined here, always friendly! Overall: Yes, please! It's always a wonderful experience at Killer Shrimp! The trifecta of incredible views, delicious food & excellent customer service, easily the reason that keeps me coming back for more!

Yelp
This giant chive sums up my experience with killer shrimp. Food is good, but could have some care. the chefs dont care. And if they dont care, why should I spend my hard earned dollar here? Chefs: please take some pride in your work. I want to like this place. The lobster and shrimp dynamite was dynamite. But I won't be back if no one cares.

Yelp
Well, it is the 4th of July but they don't honor their reservations. You arrive and they add your name to their wait list along with all the other walk-ins. Sure their shrimp is out of this world but...

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch because it was empty and there was no parking fee. I was in the mood for fish tacos so I gave it a try. Service was slow but friendly. Here's what I had: Baja fish tacos: It's on the appetizers menu. Excellent fish tacos! The breading on the fish was tasty and light. Very impressed!

Yelp
Service was super slow and very poor. Server came by at a minimum. We sat down right away but took over 40 minutes just for our appetizer. Had to ask for water multiple times. The margarita was very strong and the house made lemonade was good if you like sweet. Had an amazing wedge salad. Totally recommend it. We had Mac and cheese shrimp, pasta killer shrimp and lobster roll. Food was generally good but not great. Ambiance was the best. Classic rock played inside. We sat outside with a great view of the marina.

Yelp
Came here with a friend one evening to check out the speakeasy. ;-) This place is HUGE, with lots of open seating and an open view to the Marina. The speakeasy itself is accessed back outside next to the main entrance. You can't miss it, actually, as there's a valet stand there. As we arrived early, we sat in Killer Shrimp's bar. Definitely full-bar here, along with a really good bar menu. We got snacks and drinks. My Whiskey Sour was so good, I got another one! We then headed to the speakeasy once it opened, and enjoyed an evening of burlesque. Don't bring the kids, heh! :-D I wouldn't mind coming back here to eat a meal in the dining area.

Yelp
I've been to this location a couple times in the past and I have always had a good experience. This time not so much--- the food was just "off" 1. The lemonades--- toooooo much friend I could barely use the straw. It was just annoying And useless 2. They charged an extra $26 for the killer shrimp with crab- the crab is comes with a tiny crab claws. At the most should have been a $10 up charge 3. The salmon I ordered was so greasy- I couldn't even finish it .. the grease was dripping off and made me feel nauseous Like I said I have been here before .. maybe today was just an off day. Everything else was ok.. servers were very nice and it seems like they were on top of their game - the view was beautiful as always. Not sure if I will be coming back-just wasn't a great experience for me this time around.

Yelp
I recently visit Killer Shrimp for the very first time and I was a little disappointed. The place has a parking lot that it's all valet parking, you have to pay $10 + tip to park there. They have another parking lot in the back that's free but I don't understand why are they charging to park at their own parking lot which is really big. The place smells really fishy, and not the good fish smell that comes from the dishes. The hosts are very young girls that don't have any training, they're not very welcoming or helpful. The food itself was good! Specially the shrimp dishes, I ordered some fish tacos and they were very plain and found myself needing a lot of salt for it. The bathrooms are very dirty, which is very surprising for a restaurant that has very expensive dishes. There was water everywhere on the sinks and the smell was just bad. Overall I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant. You can find better places for the price.

Yelp
Got to say, love this place...food is always great, the tuna steak sandwich is top notch...had the killer shrimp yesterday and it's great too... The main reason we go here is because they have boat parking! No other places have this, great for a boating day lunch. Bernie is always my waiter, we literally wait for him to show up to order our meals...great dude... Keep up the good work Thanks

Yelp
Just came back from out of state outgoing for a ride from the location for which we live and found this place called killer shrimp very flavorful. Let me just say that much starting off at the top. Enjoy the time that we went due to they were having lunch specials wish they have them every day. You gotta go by and check it out. Nice place to love the atmosphere.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday night at 8:30 pm for a date night we had to pay $9 for parking. we did self parking but still had to pay. The ambiance was nice, you can sit outside or inside. We chose to sit inside. The service was good. We ordered the fried calamari, which was thin and crispy. Reminded me of pork rinds but not as crispy and also fishy (4/10). Also got the beach house salad, which was fresh and good a nice size as well (8/10). For entrees he ordered a seafood pasta marinara, it wasn't really spicy but it was good, the bread paired nice with the sauce (7/10). I ordered the grilled filet mignon, it was okay the veggies were really nicely sautéed! (7/10). We were definitely full by the end of the night.

Yelp
20+ years ago, Killer Shrimp was a mini chain with several intimate locations dishing out a small menu of items, mostly variations of fresh shrimp in their signature broth, a rich, savory and slightly spicy brew you could spend hours lapping up with French bread. For whatever reasons, the multiple locations closed and the business consolidated into a larger space in Marina Del Rey. With a bigger kitchen, the menu expanded and is now quite varied. Yes, their original shrimp in broth remains the centerpiece, and what many people come specifically to order; but they've got plenty of appetizers, salads and entrees to satisfy just about anyone, plus a full bar and a good selection of liquor at very reasonable prices. Our most recent visit was on New Year's Eve, prior to attending a special event in their new, upstairs speakeasy, Killer Yacht Club (separate review). My wife ordered the Original Shrimp, which is just as it always was: tasty, spicy and addictive. The shrimp were fresh and good-sized, and the portion was ample. In days gone by, each of us would have put away a whole order, but our older bellies don't have quite as much room, and there was a good deal left over, which would have been brought home if we were not going to the other event. Since I knew I'd be able to horn in on some of my wife's shrimp in broth, I ordered the Crab Cake Stuffed Shrimp: 3 nice-sized shrimp, each topped with a dollop of their house crab cake mix and baked. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the crab cake stuffing was very tasty. These were served with drawn butter, but that didn't add much to the already well-seasoned shrimp, so I opted for a touch of their house-branded hot sauce, and that was the perfect topper. In addition to the stuffed shrimp, I ordered the Wedge Salad, which is a very creative take on the steakhouse staple. The Killer Shrimp version comes with half a head of iceberg lettuce topped by grilled green onion, baby tomato, roasted garlic, crispy prosciutto, generously sized pieces of bleu cheese and a creamy bleu cheese dressing. It was a large salad built with very fresh ingredients, but the surprise star was the roasted whole cloves of garlic, which really added great depth of flavor. The one drawback to the experience was the service. Yes, this was New Year's Eve, but this was not a special event crowd. It was busy, but not packed as I've seen the place many times before... yet the service was harried and inattentive. Our cocktail order was pretty standard, but both of our drinks were made incorrectly and had to be sent back. The real issue was the men's room, which was a shambles -- like really sopping wet, and without toilet paper in the stall. Since this was still at the beginning of the evening, one has to wonder why the restrooms weren't serviced properly before the dinner crowd arrived. Again, despite being New Year's Eve, the restaurant was not overwhelmed with guests. The service aside, the food was top quality and very enjoyable, so we'll be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Unfortunately this restaurant is not up to the standards it used to be. From the unfriendly hostess with a horrible attitude, to the unclean bathrooms with tissues and rags on the floor and water all over the sink, to having to track down our server for water refills and other needs since he'd disappear multiple times, they've simply lost their touch of class they once had. It's so disappointing. The food was at least still good, but I'm not sure I'll ever be back after this. We were celebrating my father's 64th surprise birthday, and we just weren't met with much warmth and even were ignored a few times by all the servers rushing past our table. Even for the birthday cake we purchased and brought with us, they decided to charge a cake cutting fee. $2 per slice. We weren't even allowed to cut it ourselves if we wanted the option to so you're by default forced to pay the fee. This might be the most greedy egregious thing I've ever heard of a restaurant doing considering we're already a large party spending over $700 with the restaurant. They did not even include any complimentary ice cream or anything special for my father. Everyone else seemed to be priority over our party despite us making our reservation well in advance and the dining room not being busy. I would not recommend having a dinner celebration here as you will be forgotten. Two stars only because the food was still good.

Yelp
I don't know if i'm missing something but I got the original killer shrimp and pasta entree... and I just don't understand how that's a signature dish? Is it just supposed to be a crab boil with no toppings or real spice? It was thin and watery instead of rich and flavorful. My husbands clam pasta was delish. Drink was yummy. Service was amazing, really kind and helpful waitresses. Outdoor seating is gorgeous. Will knock ur socks off so to speak. I'd come back and order something else (but it's the signature dish!!!???)

Yelp
We came here for the after-hours festivities that had the weekly live band performing. Expect a cover when you come, but nothing to break the wallet. Once we got inside the bartender and the live music made up for it. The residential band is a crowd favorite and they dropped some serious hits that the crowd up on their feet groovin. The place isn't too big so when they really put in work on vocals, the sound can be a bit overwhelming, but it still a great vibe. As I made my way to the bathroom, that's when I realized Killer Shrimp was a restaurant so I definitely would come back to dine as I was looking at the menu and they had some items worth wanting to try.

Yelp
Had a reservation for 5:00 for 6 people. Table wasn't ready. When we sat, had to wait 15 minutes for waitress to take drink order and another 15 for drinks to come. Meanwhile, party of 17 who came in after us got all of their drinks and appetizers. By the time we got our dinner order, an hour later, the other table of 17 was done.. waitress also forgot our bread. Also, they don't split checks. Lastly, I vomited everything up about 30 minutes after I got home. Like projectile! Could have been the clam chowder wasn't fresh, or maybe it was the crab cakes. Inside is very dark. For $400 (including the 18% tip) I expected better.

Yelp
I treated a friend here today for her birthday, and we had a great time! Our server was extremely friendly, and most importantly, PATIENT! We needed lots of time to decide what we wanted to eat. There are so many options! The server was also attentive, checking in constantly. The ambiance was very relaxed and soothing, although there's a separate room with TVs that's more upbeat and social if you're looking for a more social vibe or want to catch a game! As for the food, it was great! We started with the popcorn shrimp and some mussels, which were both delectable! I appreciate that the "popcorn" shrimp are a good size, versus the typical popcorn shrimp that's mostly batter. They were perfectly seasoned. We got crabcakes, which were delicious, as well as the lobster bisque! I loved the lobster bisque, but did wish there were some chunks of lobster. I definitely would return to try some of the main killer shrimp staples, but wasn't in the mood for a mess!

Yelp
Went to place on Sunday my first time. There was a pretty aquarium-beautiful. The waiter was ok but there were a lot of us at one table. I ordered the killer shrimp with rice and my friend ordered killer shrimp with pasta. She immediately asked me about the flavor of the soup because there was none. Explained I had no idea!! There was no spice or flavor. I believe the waiter was overwhelmed with all of us but he did his best. Had to ask a few times for water. There were a few of us that didn't enjoy our meal

Yelp
This is a yummy and pleasant beach city seafood spot. The broth really is signature and delicious. It's a must try. I'm not sure it's quite worth the price. I did not have to wait for a seat. I asked for a table on the patio but none was available. The hostess sat me by a window looking out of the patio which was a decent compromise consider there's usually a waitlist.
google avatar

Kirstin Z.

Yelp
I always enjoy the original killer shrimp at Killer Shrimp. Along with the great bowl of bread they provide. The other items I have tried are not quite as tasty, but when I'm in the mood for the shrimp, I'm in the mood! The service has unfortunately fell off. Our waitress this last event was very friendly and kind especially to my daughter, but from the time we sat down to the server coming and getting us drinks took over 10 minutes. Maybe they were busy, but not busy enough to ignore a table for that long. The ambiance is nice enough and my daughter always enjoys the fish tank, but it's definitely not what it use to be.

Yelp
Great service, good quality and huge portions. Heavy handed drinks. Beautiful location with ocean view from every seat. I will definitely be back !!! The owners came out to make our friends birthday extra special Thank you

Yelp
If you like seafood this is a great spot. I am a big fan of the happy hour menu. After a long day or you just want to have a drink or two and watch a game on tv away from home and/or with fiends. The clientele is diverse and the crowd varies all the time. Now the diner menu is also worth mentioning. It's probably cliche but the signature "killer shrimp" is really good. The spicy can be a little on the hot side but it's delicious.

Yelp
I have always been hearing about this place and that time has finally came to check it out. While walking up to the restaurant it was a lot of flies swarming around at the front door. I was a little nervous and not sure what that was all about but as I made my way inside it was a cool looking place. I sat outside that overlooked the harbor and the view is absolutely breathtaking. I had ordered the fried seafood platter, and it really didn't meet my expectations. It was bland but you must try the blue cheese mashed potatoes! I know I know it sounds crazy but I will definitely go back just to order that! What also brought flavor to my meal was the basiltini cocktail. I almost ordered three of them! It is one of my newest favorite cocktails. That and the ocean view is really why I'm giving a four star review. My guest who joined me ordered the killer shrimp, crab, and lobster dish and I did try it and it was so delicious and flavorful with just the right amount of spice. I honestly should've ordered that and I most definitely will the next time I come back.

Yelp
Welcome to Killer Shrimp... "The sailors say Killer... you're a fine "gup," what a good "spouse" you would be..." A more than seafood eatery mashed up with Killer Cafe close by, a hidden speakeasy and the Killer Yacht Club.... Talk about a small biz franchise! They have a beautiful bar area, wide lobby and lounge are with a amazing fish aquarium - private area for special events and/or parties with a Marilyn Monroe picture guarding the way along with roped off staircase and a wine collection of sorts. Read about their The Overkill Room (drop-down projector screen and a 366 guest space capacity). If you need to wash your hands, do your business or freshen up the restrooms are toward the main entrance area - across from a couch just before they take you to your table. An easy layout with good lighting, plus windows for days! You'll receive pretty awesome service with a view of the marina although the view of The Dandeana yacht ship took up a large part of our sightline - A beautiful boat I was once aboard for a friend's wedding. You can be seated indoors in the main room in tables or booth as well as outside catching the breeze and smell of sea water. For large groups, reservations are recommended like with our group of ten. We were continuing to celebrate birthdays galore including my friend Mike's 60th and an extended summer birthday for my friend Adam (50th), he loves this place. It was a chosen family dinner night with good drinks, photos, laughs and eats. I'm really grateful I called and researched ahead for vegan friendly options at this Killer spot along Marina Del Rey's marina. The Angel Alla Pomodori Freschi (Angel Hair pasta dish) and Killer Spice Fries were my foodie choices for the night. Those Fries were fire! LITERALLY! Above medium level spice for sure hot and savory - one cup of ketchup didn't last very long for a huge order like that (two might do), but I enjoyed most of them and shared the rest. The pasta was perfection, olive oil, veggies and delight. Alison was out super kind as well as helpful server. It got even busier while we were there so I didn't get refills as frequently as my friends when I was ready for mine, but I dine enjoy all the food. Alison pre-warned me about the spiced side being extra hot and she was spot on, but I can take the heat... Move over Hot Ones lol - she helped with drink orders, additional drink refills and did it all forwards, backwards and with a smile. Eventually I did manage to get more water, plenty of napkins and a full satisfying experience. Glass of Butter Chardonnay by Jam Cellars raised high. I did sample some of my friend Shaun's Dark N' Stormy cocktail and let me tell you... I'll be back for that! Signature drinks are a must here and reasonable like the full beverage menu. Extensive menu, mostly seafood specialities, other entrees, pasta dishes, appetizers and sides, a lot of which are vegetarian and/or vegan friendly by default. Even gluten free though not marked due to shared kitchen space with wheat ingredients.... However they seem to be super accommodating here so I'm sure they can do their best. I will say it can get a bit loud and hard to hear your dinning parties conversation or have much of one as the night goes on and this places fills up, and does it fill up! Parking is valet only... Smooth as can be for dropping off or picking up, just plan ahead. Standard gratuity for larger groups. Splitting up a bill can be an adventure and with too many cards it's customers choice. With two to three cards it's much easier and/or cash. Killer full all star crew working together to bring you the best time possible, the valets, the hosts, bartenders, servers, bussers, kitchen and chefs make it a good time.

Yelp
It's insane how bad this place has gotten. I used to LOVE coming here, but the food quality is awful! 3 separate times now I've come, and the hostess in front was beyond rude. I'm glad that today the hostess was super friendly! But 2 weeks ago I attempted to come with a group. That hostess stated they can't seat 6 people on the patio, so I said okay, no problem...can we do 2 tables of 3? She said that wasn't allowed either?! What?? We could literally see tables of 3 and 4 out there. We fine with separating for dinner. They lost out on a bill for 6 people who went to eat and drink. Today, I ordered mussels, and it was so gross. 90% of the mussels when opened were mush or looked shredded up? The photos I attached are literally what they looked like as I opened them...did not touch the insides at all. Horrible. And now, they've started charging for parking at certain times/days. Their only selling points were the view and free parking...and now even parking is being charged for. This was for SURE my last time going there.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I went to Killer Shrimp yesterday and I ordered the Killer Shrimp Pasta. The waitress guaranteed it was their most popular dish and said it would be spicy and savory. I cannot believe how bad it was. It was downright nasty. The broth was pure liquid, watery and bland, like someone just dumped rosemary, chili flakes, and hot water into a bowl. It had no richness, no depth, nothing to salvage. The shrimp were small, and the pasta was angel hair that was so soggy it barely held together. It tasted like nothing. I kept adding salt, hoping it would turn into something edible, but it just kept disappointing. And with all that watered-down mess, they served almost two full baguettes--what for? To soak up that flavorless soup? It was laughable. I paid over $20 for a dish that should not even be on the menu. I have lived in L.A. for 25 years, and this is hands down the worst meal I have had. Do not fall for the hype. This was a joke. Absolutely disgusting.

Yelp
People come for the views. 1- parking Having never been, I accidentally thought killer cafe was the same thing as killer shrimp. So we parked in their lot and wondered where the rest of our group was. It ended up being a blessing - as parking is free for the cafe and is valet only ( $9 ) for killer shrimp. The folks at the cafe must get this a lot as they were super gracious and directed us to the correct location. 2- service Our waitress was awesome. The backing staff were horrible. The food came out to our group at irregular intervals. Typically it's served all at, or approximately at, the same time. I ordered their "famous" shrimp and was left waiting for 5 minutes while everyone else had food. If it's their signature dish shouldn't it be one of the first done? Pacing around the restaurant, on the phone, was either the manager or the owner. His vibe was not conducive to a laid back marina del Rey restaurant .... His pacing alone made me feel like my boss would roll up to the table and tell me I ordered poorly. What I will say, though, is a church group of ladies rolled in with their Sunday best. They were awesome. I expected some gospel singing to break out and, honestly, after I saw them order their second round of margaritas I was sorely tempted to to ask if I could join their table. 3- food "Watch out, it's spicy".... Only if you're a gringo from Nebraska. Their spice is ... way too much pepper and rosemary ... no heat. I think I spent most of the afternoon picking rosemary leaves out of my teeth. The shrimp comes in a broth and you get bread. I guess the idea is that you soak up the broth with the French bread and it's filling. I didn't count t the number of shrimp but I was underwhelmed. Go to boiling crab if you want to get spicy shrimp in quantity , just don't expect such a nice view They were out of clams...which eliminated a few menu items The popcorn shrimp were fine...not exceptional. 4- value You pay for a view, not for the food. 5- ambiance There's a custom motorcycle in the lobby. I guess that means the owner is cool? Beats me. Lots of good views of the harbor. 6- Overall- if you have visitors from out of town (we did) and want a marina del Rey restaurant then consider this as they have nice views of the harbor... but I think next time I might look at some other options as I didn't think the cost/value/quality proposition is there.

Yelp
Had an amazing first experience at Killer Shrimp a bit pricey but understandable since we were at the marina on the beach. The food was delish. I ordered shrimp and lobster enchiladas and my friend ordered sea food platter. The service was impeccable I mean I don't know which was better the food or the service I mean both were A1 for real! The servers names dang can't remember but they were Amazing Im bummed I can't remember because they made the experience one of a kind. I think the guy name is Michael and the women name was...ughh dang but the service and food was great. The ambiance of the place was nice sitting right on the beach while we were inside the seating outside would've been nice nice too. I went with my best friend that'll be a wonderful date night spot too tho. Especially at night would be nice I'm sure of it. The only downfall was the price it cost close to $100 for two people with no extras no appetizers nothing. But now that I think about it that's average these days for the price so I guess it'll work. Definitely going back tho rather date night or best friend vibe I even thought to take my oldest on a date night for the experience :)

Yelp
I have a long history with Killer Shrimp. I used to work at a law firm that represented Lee Michaels, the original owner and creator of Killer Shrimp. We used to go to their old strip mall location back in the old days. The menu used to be pretty much limited to their yummy, spicy shrimp and pie for dessert. This location was a nice change with a view of the water in Marina Del Rey. When we lived in Southern California, our family would ride bikes here together (there is still a bike rack out front). We came here last week with our now adult daughter while on a road trip back to where she grew up. It brought back many fond memories! The spicy shrimp is as delicious as ever! But I was put off by a few things. We noticed that our table was dirty when we were seated. There were many people working there but everyone honestly seemed too busy and frazzled to even make eye contact with us. But once our server arrived, we were relieved because she was pretty awesome -- super friendly and attentive. She seemed to be the only one happy to be working there! And the menu is huge now. There are too many things to choose from - many appetizers, entrees, and pasta dishes that have nothing to do with the original killer shrimp. I mean, they even have paella. And they have added a "Killer Cafe" and "Killer Yacht Club" here, too. I'm not sure how having all of these offerings is sustainable but I hope it works out for them. I would come back anytime and only get their original Killer Shrimp (shelled), served with a colander full of sliced French bread to soak up all of that yummy, spicy sauce.

Yelp
The food here is spectacular. sitting outside next to the water is awesome. we went for lunch but I'd come back for dinner to be sure. I'm not a fan of the mandatory valet parking when there were no fewer than 20 open parking spaces-uh. That aside, every bite we took of everything everyone ordered did not disappoint t so I will suck up the parking fee. hadn't been to Killer Shrimp since the Early 2000s when the shrimp was basically the only menu item! But this move to the Marina and expansion of the menu was an amazing business move, and I'm hoping it pays off for many years to come! Well done!

Yelp
Hard to beat the combination of solid food, reasonable prices a nice marina view. Highly recommend the Fisherman's Stew. Similar broth and bread that comes with the original Killer Shrimp, but this dish gives you a lot more seafood.

Yelp
I hv Ben there several times in the past years - the service wasn't the same - it was like a ghost town in the restaurant & it was after 5:30pm! The appetizers weren't good / the calamari looked like fish pcs instead of calamari? We had to track our server down - no one came by to clean off the tables - we had a party of 3 & all 3 of us were shocked re: the quality of food & the service ... I am hopeful whatever is going on improves immediately - our food & the service was not up to par! The person at the front entrance - the hostess was so non-chalant & unwelcoming we shd hv known what was in Store for us- a when we left - she was completely different & friendly?!!

Yelp
Went back again after a few months. Had the ahí poke and the filet mignon skewers with a mai tai and garlic bread. Had the best time on an October afternoon.

Yelp
Grilled Filet Kabobs, I ordered Medium Rare, they came Well Done. Added a Lobster Tail, it was overcooked and tough. The Killer Shrimp Original broth was extremely over peppered, several people tried it and all ended up "choking" from the amount of pepper in the broth. A far cry from the "Hype" the place has.

Yelp
I'm glad I gave this restaurant a 2nd chance. I had dinner here last night with my daughter. We had: Steamed Clams (5/5) - As good as last time. My daughter loved it. Killer Shrimp Original (4/5) - As I wrote in my last review, the last time we had this, it was very disappointing. Very bland and the color of the broth seemed off. It was "right" this time. We both enjoyed it. I spoke to the server regarding our last experience, and she said these are "made to order" and her guess was that whoever was in the kitchen missed a couple of steps last time. Good to know for the future. We'll be back!

Yelp
Yikes. I should have know when I had to step over old (like from the night before) vomit on the back staircase leading from the marina to this place that we were not going to have a good experience. We were seated quickly outside on the patio overlooking the marina, but that was about the only redeeming quality. Our table was in terrible condition, with paint wearing away in spots and wobbly. We were handed two glasses to fill with our sparkling water, and one was so cloudy/dirty that I wondered if it had been washed at all. The other one was fine, but still. No straws or lemon/lime were offered, either. Our waitress was not having a good day, or maybe just looks unhappy all the time, but she was not friendly, rather very matter-of-fact. She was difficult to understand at times, but appreciate that English was not likely her first language so I'll give her a pass because she is trying. I ordered the 'airplane chicken' with garlic mashed potatoes and when I got it (after a long time) the potatoes were totally cold but the chicken was piping hot. I forced a couple bites of potatoes down because I was starving, but couldn't eat the rest of them. I had hopes for the chicken, but it was overcooked and entirely bland. Wah wahhhh. If not for the little container of mustard to dip it in and my famished state, I wouldn't have eaten it, either. Our server didn't come back, even after she promised to bring my bf an assortment of dipping sauces for his seafood platter when she served oue food. He flagged her down again and we told her about my food, and she said she will bring more potatoes and sauce. I didn't want them, but ate a few bites of the replacement potatoes anyway. They were mid. And he got the sauce and she didn't charge me for my sparkling water as a way to make up for the cold food. I don't get it. The food was weird but they removed a drink charge to make up for it? Whatever. Also, there isn't a link of ambiance here, the layout is not welcoming, and the floors are dirty at the entrance. The bathroom had a weird musty smell and were dark, almost gothic- looking with the red and black paint. Something is off here. Don't waste your time or money. It's such a missed opportunity considering the location, I can't imagine this place will make it except they're catering to the alcoholics who drink to much and then try to navigate the back stairwell....

Yelp
It is DISGUSTING! The food, the service, the attitude..there can not be a worse "upscale" restaurant. DO NOT GO and waste your $$$$, time, and get stressed out. I am surprised that this place is still in business. I won't bother telling my experience...it would take another 2 paragraphs of describing DISGUSTING! PS: Don't be fooled by dining by the water, that is the only thing Killer has going for it.

Yelp
This is the lobster shrimp soup. This was so good. You guys first of all we sat outside with the ocean view with the yachts, cruising up on us. It was so nice. The food was so good. The seasonings were perfect. The service there was great they would come up to you like every five minutes and make sure you were fine Great I'll give it a 10 out of 10 try guys

Yelp
I love the views and the killer fries - spiciest fries I've ever had, in a good way. 3 stars because the main shrimp sandwich had overcooked shrimp.

Yelp
Loved the outdoor patio overlooking the water. I got shrimp with asparagus and mashed potatoes & really liked it. Fam got steak/surf & turf and some bread & seafood stew thing. They also really liked it. Huge restaurant. We also got dessert and salad. Would def come back!!! Excellent food!
