Tasty ice cream and picked up some treats for the family back home. Very pricey. Large selection but didn’t buy as much as I would have due to exorbitant prices. Had a bit of an outdoor patio feel for seating with cast iron patio furniture. Staff wasn’t super helpful or welcoming…just there.

Kilwins Ice Cream is one of the top go to spots when you want Ice Cream, Milk Shakes, Chocolates, Chocolate Candies and tons of other sweet treats in downtown Chicago. Now keep in mind Kilwins is on Michigan Ave in downtown Chicago. For some reason or other, the Google Maps will tell you it's on another street but it's actually a few doors down from the CVS going south. Now let's get the the greatness of what they have to offer. Traditional the one I generally go to is in Hyde Park but the owner, owns both locations and she's amazing. The Ice Cream is always fresh. The candies are always on point. I generally get the mints when I do eat candy. Now also keep in mind the seating in the downtown location is limited therefore you might want to take a peek in first, if you plan on eating inside. All and all Kilwins is an amazing place for Ice Cream and different treats and the customer service is always high class. You have to try them out one day.

Best salted caramel icecream& rum&raisin I'd ever tasted. Don't pass this fabulous place

Staff were very friendly and helpful! The treats looked phenomenal -- grabbed a scoop of cherry ice cream in a waffle bowl; it was delicious.

Love this place! My first experience was in Hyde Park and I'm definitely a kid in a candy store when I visit! My favorite is the shortbread treat with the chocolate and caramel coating! The taffy apples are always consistently delicious. I was glad to rekindle our relationship at the South Loop store!!!!

The ice cream wasn’t special, it was pricey. The waffle cone was homemade and good. The staff were nice and there are 2 tables to sit and enjoy your ice cream indoor.

Very clean establishment, with an area for prepping the candy apples, smelled very enticing as the caramel was cooking in the hot pot..we picked up several candies with a wide selection. Priced to sell with special's daily..will return once in the area..

Been to the Kilwins in Hyde Park so naturally tried the one downtown. Great customer service, great ice cream! If you haven’t been here, go! (And of course it’s great that it’s black owned so definitely LOVEEE to support my people!) 🫶🏾 I got the Superman flavor and my mom got the New Orleans praline pecan… definitely did not disappoint!

We came on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. They have lots of flavor options and I ended up getting an American berry pie flavor. The small cup is still filled with a lot of ice cream. It was super creamy and loved the berry flavor. Not a ton of seating inside but we were able to sit and eat. Great spot for ice cream in the summer!

I called ahead looking for something similar to a pixie or turtle like a certain famous Chicago chocolate place makes. They told me they have a caramel pecan chocolate patty, large ones and small ones.. so we had a ride over hopped on the number three bus and hopped off at Jackson. I believe it was the same woman who answered the phone was there in person and we're very glad to find the options that were available to us for what we were looking for as a holiday gift ... the idea to compare a pixie from Fannie Mae with various places take on this classic combo as a host gift. So you opted for the half pound of the smaller, dark and milk chocolate options ... I snapped a couple pictures as reference. They have giant ones called Bear claws..smaller options as well. I'm happy to say we walked out of there with what we were looking for. We're glad we decided to call around the various chocolate shops to realize it not everyone makes this kind of delicious candy. ... I kept on wanting to say to the worker, "you have a sweet location here.. must be a fun job surrounded by ice cream dipped caramel apples." It was pretty slow today.

Omg!!!! The fudge from Kilwins is sooooo good. I love the turtle and the chocolate fudge the best, but the maple and the peanut butter fudge come a close second. They have other very popular items such as caramel apples, bear claws, krispies and marshmallows. They also have icecream, which is a big win win! I usually take boxes of assorted fudges, but I also end up trying the bear claws, which are really delicious in my opinion. The service is fast and the staff of friendly. Recently, I've noticed the ambience dwindling. The place looks unkempt and far from tidy. The ambience definitely needs some attention, but otherwise, this is such a great store!

The staff was very rude. I was reprimanded for taking a spoon. The one and only worker had her back was to us, while making a shake. The only other person continued to bag trash. 8 other people walked in ( 2 of which walked out). The man who reprimanded me, did nothing to help the solo worker. I thought perhaps they were closing soon. THEY WERE NOT. Easily another hour before they closed. After paying my $28 for a shake and double scoop of ice cream. I asked for a spoon. I was told no " they were almost out". What an awful experience! I've been here in the past. It was delightful. Seriously, unacceptable!

I stopped by this chain ice cream place and although it's not the best rated one in town, it was on the way that day. They do not have sample spoons, so that keeps the lines short, unfortunately you have to hopefully pick the right one on your first choice. I ordered a single scoop in 2 different cups, chocolate and chocolate coconut. I preferred the one with coconut of course. The total wasn't too bad at $13. I visited on a rainy day and was the only customer. It happened to be Lollapalooza weekend, so there were ton of Christian protesters right outside being annoying and sometimes even harassing passerbys. In summary, if you want decent ice cream close to millennium park. It's certainly a good option. But if you want the best in tue city, I'd probably go somewhere else.

I just love how it smells so delicious. Not a lot of options for ice cream so many delicious chocolate and caramel treats and they have seating. Watching the caramel apple being done is nice while you enjoy whatever treat you buy. Helpful staff and offered suggestions as gift overall great service might stop by again before I leave.

The ice cream was amazingly delicious (food) so many flavors to select from, the service was swift, and the ambiance is tempting, you just feel like you want to try it all but this place can be a bit pricey if you're with more than two kids, just saying. It's worth it though.

Ice cream was absolutely delicious! I stopped twice during my trip for some peanut butter and chocolate. Unfortunately, the smallest size is a very large portion which also allows them to charge more. I asked if I could purchase a smaller size cone and was told that she would make it smaller, but charge me the same.

Seriously one of the most ooey-gooeyist caramel apples I have ever had. My family member said she would get one ALL the time since they are just that good and she was right, it took a good 30 minutes to get the clump of sticky caramel from sticking to my tooth. But it was so worth it! Service is meh but lots of candy choices and I fed off the caramel marshmallow for the next few days. Definitely worth a visit for hand made old fashioned like candies

Classic spot to ice cream that is open later. Liked that I could get an ice cream of my choosing with the hot fudge sunday other than vanilla. Big fan of the hot fudge sunday. Got the white chocolate rice krispie on a stick - was okay, nothing special. Bathrooms were out of order with nowhere to sanitize my hands which was disappointing. Service was fine, not too busy so was quick and easy.

A few caramel apples, half of a pound of fudge, and a couple of ice cream cones, will run you about $50. It's not exactly cheap, but pretty average for chocolate shops. I usually love fudge, but the Maple Walnut fudge was really dry. It crumbled when I cut into it. The Turtle Fudge I could have eaten all night. But that dry fudge was a disappointment. Apples: It's why I was there to begin with. I rarely go to Kilwins, but every time I want a caramel apple, it's the first place I think of. They never disappoint. With a salted chocolate dipped caramel apple, a pecan turtle apple, and a basic caramel apple, I was pretty much set. At 900 cals an apple though, yikes. Go easy on those apples. Service is great. The shop is bright and clean. A solid choice.

This is my second time here. Oprah made this place more popular than before. When you walk into the establishment...you smell the waffles being made. The aroma smells sooo good. The chocolate is not sweet at all. They make their own chocolate. This was my first time trying their ice cream and waffle cone. The butter pecan was so good and the waffle bowl was just delicious. I really love their bear claw! It's full of nuts with the right chocolate and caramel to make it just right and not too sweet. Great place for treats!

The people working at Kilwins are always a delight, but this candy story has become so overpriced it is hard to believe the candy is worth the price. I still shop there for a few guilty pleasures, but the cost is often a deterrent. Their ice cream is delicious, but you have to be selective in choosing your candy.

A quaint little sweet shop right across Grant Park and other Chicago touristy destinations. They have ice cream, chocolates, fudge, caramel apples, and more! Would definitely recommend stopping by for some ice cream on a warm day or if you wanted to take some sweets to save for later. ..... BLUEBERRY WAFFLE CONE: 4/5 solid ice cream - sweet, fruity and the waffles add a bit of crunch if you like that kind of texture in your ice cream

I don't consider myself super old, but Kilwins makes me think of my child hood and my granny taking me to random sweet shops. I've only ever had their Superman ice cream, and it's delicious. They also get bonus points for carrying Superman. I gave the location 4 stars because they werent fully stocked when I visited. I wanted a Carmel apple as well and they were completely out. An employee has just started a new batch of Caramel to make them (yes, super fresh), but I didn't have time to wait. And I was disappointed they started making new once fully out. But hey maybe it's the way they operate. They product is great but the staff didn't seem "on it" If that makes any sense. FYI- it is a pricer scoop if you're used to baskin robbins pricing, but I feel it's worth it for the quality. This location also has outdoor seating for you to enjoy your treat.

The ice cream is great, and I'll need to get back to try some of the other treats, but what pushes this place into the 5-star category is how friendly the staff is. On 9/5, there was a major city event across the street, so Kilwins was busy that night and probably had been all day. But the staff were all super friendly and getting people served quickly, and managing to keep the place very clean despite all the foot traffic. Great experience.

This place is ridiculously expensive - even at boutique ice cream shops in SF where the cost of living is unobtainable, they don't charge you $7 for a single scoop (at least not yet lol). That being said, the caramel and chocolate treats here are divine. I opted to skip the ice cream because i was shook at the price. Instead, I got a few chocolate covered goodies including the marshmallow, the macadamia nut turtle, and some chocolate covered sea salt caramel. Honestly, I was pretty upset at myself for not ordering more once I had devoured all of my goodies. Next time, I'd probably get a caramel apple and double up on all things caramel here. It is a high quality, sticky, chewy, luxurious caramel. The marshmallow was also really good too - definitely not your standard bag of jet puffed or w/e they sell at the grocery store. Service was a bit mixed. We came in about 40-50 minutes before closing. One older guy, who was sweeping the floor, made it super clear he did NOT want to help us and gave purposefully unhelpful answers. It would be understandable if we were just milling about without asking for things but we were literally asking for goods to purchase! Meanwhile, the other younger guy noticed his co-worker being a buttcrack and offered to ring us up instead. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

For our afternoon, this was a perfect little chocolate shop with decadent ice cream flavors, a wide variety of chocolates, fudge, and caramel apples. There were many gluten-free options. Gluten-containing items are pretty obvious (items containing cookies, pretzels, etc.). My single scoop of ice cream was more than enough for me. It would fit well in a waffle cone, even though I had to do a dish. I got the turtle flavor and I tasted the kilwins tracks. I'd definitely get either flavor again. I thought the ice cream scoops were reasonably priced, but be warned that the milkshakes are $15.

This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I remember visiting as a kid and the thrill of getting ice cream here was almost too much to bare. Since it's definitely changed, but their caramel has not! On our most recent trip we got a s'mores ice cream malt and caramel. The malt was very good, but honestly seemed like something I could get from pretty much anywhere. The real delicacy was the caramel. I bought it on a Thursday, and the entire thing was gone by Friday ‍ If you're looking for a Chicago-foodie souvenir, I'd recommend going here.

We dipped in to get a treat and escape the rain. Immediately we were enveloped in the sweet aroma of baking waffle cones. Kilwins looks like a shop you'd find on Main St. in Disneyland without the crowd. It's cute, with pretty black and white tile and a crown molding ceiling tile. The server was very generous with his scooper! My son got blueberry waffle cone and my daughter got chocolate peanut butter. It was tasty!

This place is awesome. I lost my Upass here and this tall guy held onto it for me. I'm so glad I came back because I love their taffy apples. It's so fun being downtown and eating here. The only annoying thing was this customer who was pregnant and she kept trying every single flavor of ice cream and just tasting it and taking forever and holding up the line. Super inconsiderate. That is really the only problem you might run into. Don't be that person.

Stopped in to try and get drinking chocolate for my sister. Unfortunately, they didn't have any but I still managed to leave with fudge. One slice will set you back a pretty hefty $12. But, that's downtown prices for you. The staff were both very nice and helpful and were happy to answer any questions that we had. Plus, it smelled amazingly of caramel in there as they were dipping apples, which was a great reprieve from the snowy cold outside.

Very expensive...$11 for a single scoop hot fudge sundae which was merely a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup ... no hot fudge, no whipped cream, and no cherry. Won't be going back.

Stopped here while checking out the pumpkins on navy pier! They have a good selection of stuff! We ended up getting fudge and some fudge to bring to our grandma. It took us a couple days to finish it and it stayed good for those days which was great. My dad also got some sorbet and enjoyed it!

Best ice cream in Chicago! Can't wait to return!!! My boyfriend and I shared the 2 berry ice cream and regretted we didn't get one to take home because we finished it half way down the block! We also had gotten 2 caramel peanut apples that were gone right when we got home! I might just have to go back tomorrow unless they deliver!

Super over priced for one scoop of ice cream and on top of it the staff was incredibly rude

Needed a desert for my grandson after walking around the fountain and waterfront in Chicago. Used Yelp to find Kilwins. The service was good, the portions were generous, and the quality of the ice cream creations were very good. Only had two tables for seating, but were were lucky to arrive just as another group was leaving. The waffle bowl was devoured in its entirety. The other two orders were for single scoops. Pricing was "big city expensive" but it was to be expected, based on the location. Pleased with the service and the deserts.

Kilwins offers delicious flavors in a cute atmosphere. It's also a black-owned establishment which is awesome. The pricing is on the higher side but given the area, it makes sense. And while the ice cream is delicious, I hope they would reconsider their sampling policy, allowing customers to try the flavors. I was only allowed one sample and was told no to a second sample of another flavor. Odd hearing no when we are in the store buying desserts lol

Great sweet treat! Perfect ice cream snack for the family on a summer afternoon in The City! Generous serving size (2 scoops is really more like 4). Loved the chocolate brownie and chocolate chip cookie dough!

We stopped into Kilwins while in Chicago for my wife's graduation on Saturday the 3rd of August. This place is walking distance to the Bean near by, a big time touristy spot. They have tons of stuff besides ice cream here. You can see from the outside window or once inside too some of their equipment used to make treats, cookies, caramel apples, etc. They sell other cakes, pastries, etc also. We got my wife, kids, & mother in law ice cream on this day, all enjoyed it a lot. This is a must if you visit Chicago and have a sweet tooth.

Fantastic mint chip ice cream; made with gourmet chocolate. Also enjoyed the fresh sea salt caramels. Helpful and friendly servers. Wonderful ice cream and candy shop aroma. While no seating inside for 4, the kids enjoyed their ice cream on an evening walk up Michigan Avenue instead.

The praline pecan ice cream is a perfect treat!! Super sweet, and the buttery waffle cone makes it even better.

Delicious ice cream, but you should know it comes at $7.50 for a one-scoop regular cone. We took home a quart of mixed flavors, which at $20 was a great value. A quart could easily serve 6 people. This shop had particularly helpful and kind staff. An older man - he said he had gone to Kilwins as a teenager - served us, and gave us good advice. He gently encouraged my stubborn daughter to give up her insistence on the bright blue fruity-pebbles-tasting flavor she would have tired of after 3 bites, She got a marshmallow-smores flavor she delighted in. We got a praline pecan that couldn't be beat.

I got a single scoop of their sea-salt chocolate caramel in a nut & chocolate covered waffle cone. I was a little disappointed since I wanted their sprinkle & chocolate covered waffle cone, but they were out. It was 3 or 4 in the afternoon so I was surprised that they were out. Ice cream: I LOVE their sea-salt chocolate caramel ice cream. Very creamy and chocolate-y. It even had little chocolate caramel bits mixed into the ice cream. Waffle cone: tasty but not amazing Price: overpriced - my single scoop in the waffle cone was close to $9 Giving this place 4 stars because their ice cream was actually REALLY GOOD, but $9 for a single scoop seems a little overpriced. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend this place but just warning you that it can be a little pricey.

Cute candy store with an old-time feel. My sister and I spotted this adorable shop while walking down the street. It's located close to the Buckingham Fountain. The store was neatly organized and clean. Prices for candy were on par with shops of this type. The ice cream prices seemed a little high. My favorite part was watching the gentleman in the window enthusiastically and artistically making candy. The caramel seemed to just flow under his guidance. It was a beautiful and fun thing to watch. Best of all, he seemed to really enjoy his job which made it that much better. The free aroma therapy (scent of candy) was great, too! Nice place to stop by to pick up candy or ice cream, and/or watch the candy maker in the window.

Visited the Navy Pier in Chicago and came across this treasure. It is a black owned chocolate company. Never heard of it before but was so excited when I came across this. The owners seemed to be there as well helping to manager the crowd. The line was out the door and down the hall- for good reason. They called in for the people just wanting ice cream because that line was shorter and you couldn't just get in the store. This place sold ice cream, chocolate, and different kinds of apples that had toppings. The chocolate and the apple line was the longest. That's where I was waiting. The apples in the case looked absolutely amazing. They had so many different flavors and toppings. Chocolate, sprinkles, caramel, etc. I had to have one when I walked past the window. It was worth the wait. Unfortunately, the kids I had with me wanted to try it so I didn't get to eat it all by myself. I almost went back to get another one but decided not to. I can't wait to visit Chicago again and will definitely stop here again.

Best Pistachio Ever! I have been eating Kilwins since we spent our summers in South Haven Michigan when our kids were toddlers. So this is a biased review, any Ice cream that reminds me of my children frolicking in the beach will always get 5 stars. Seriously though, their ice cream has extra butter fat to overwhelm your senses. I also recommend Blue Moon (my daughters favorite) and my son prefers the cake batter if they have it.

I like the one in Hyde Park, MUCH closer to where I live, but I read on NextDoor.com that the downtown Michigan Avenue location was in desperate need of business. (it's Black-owned, just saying). Between the pandemic and some looting Im sure it's been a hard year. We made a trip to offer support and to get a pint of ice cream. (This stinks, it's national Ice CReam day and they are giving away the stuff to 2020 graduates and its POURING OUTSIDE! Maybe they can extend it another day?) Anyway we were happy to see people in there; we found out they don't have pints or half pints of ice cream, just quarts, and you can have more than 1 flavor in a quart! We wanted PEACH (they have it available in Hyde Park) and they admitted they HAD it but it was not in rotation at the time. (they could have taken a flavor that was almost bottomed out and swapped it but ok fine) We opted for Sea Salt Caramel and All American Two Berry pie. We have only tasted the Sea Salt Caramel so far, and it's good! We also got chocolate covered pretzels which were good but may have been sitting a little too long. We'd go back if we are in the area, but will make a priority to support our local/neighborhood businesses. (but apparently not our waistlines!)

Pretty pricy for plain ice cream if you ask me. Would probably just get a tub of Ben & Jerry's than come here because a single scoop is around $7 ?!?! The inside of the place is pretty cool though. They have a bunch of other desserts beside ice cream - such as assortments of candy apples, fudges, etc. Place has a really traditional, almost rustic feel to it and reminds me a lot of a Cracker Barrel.

I was very impressed by Kilwins in Chicago. I was a little underwhelmed in Michigan, where they are from. There, I found that the fudge from Murdick's and Joann's are so much better. Here, there aren't a dozen fudge shops like there are in Mackinac and Kilwin does make a quality product. The bright and cool shop is an oasis on a summer night after dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful. The dark chocolate covered toffee is a little pricey but it is absolutely delicious - excellent quality toffee robed in very good chocolate. I definitely recommend Kilwins if you are in Chicago.

The chocolates are really good at Kilwins as well as the ice cream. For those of you from California or have visited, Kilwins definitely rivals Sees Candies. I came to this store about 10 days after they opened. While the customer service was friendly I had to ask on two different occasions for clerks to use gloves as they either attempted to OR use their bare hands to grab the chocolates. One girl handed me a sample of a piece of fudge. She used a small square wax piece of paper but her actual thumbprint was on the fudge as she was handing it to me, so I immediately threw the sample in the trash. I looked to see if she saw me but her back was turned. Anyway, the chocolates are deliciously smooth. Buy my favorites are the milk and dark chocolate oreo cookies. The Traverse City Cherry ice cream was surprisingly good, smooth and rich! I sampled a few others and found each of the samples to be extremely smooth and very authentic to the flavor. The ice cream flavors weren't too overpowering. They also sell the ice cream flavors by the pint, which I did consider buying but I wasn't heading home afterwards as it would've melted completely. They also make their waffle cones in house as well as the caramel apples which they both make in the front part of the store for customers to view. The store setup is somewhat open and airy but I can see this space becoming VERY cramped and crowded if enough people start streaming through.

The sorbet was so sweet and smooth! I forget the bane of the worker there but he was so kind and had great customer service.

So excited the new kilwins opened on Michigan ave . We walked in and the entire staff was super friendly and excited to be open . They offered to give us samples of fudge , ice cream and more . The shop is super cute and clean with so many treats . Fudge Ice cream Salt water taffy And lots of goodies for tourist !! And our favorite "super man ice cream " .. tie dye rainbow ice cream ..

Delicious, but pricey. It's on Michigan Ave, so that's to be expected, I guess. I got sorbet. It was so so good! But I would say, for $8, I'll skip it next time. It was a nice treat, though. As far as service, one employee was carrying all the weight. So, if you're in Chicago at busy time, definitely skip this spot. But if you're just looking to enjoy your day and treat yourself on a weekday, this is a good option.
