This restaurant has recently moved to the location previously occupied by Off The Grille. The previous tenant had the grill front and center in the store, but now it's covered up, making the floor plan a bit weird, as the kitchen is now is the front part of the restaurant blocking part of the dining area.
When we went at 7 on a Friday night, we snatched the second to last empty table. Looks like people in Kendall are excited to finally have a Korean restaurant to appear here!
As the restaurant's name suggested, the specialty here is kimbap. It's the Korean version of sushi, with rice seasoned with sesame oil instead of vinegar, and using cooked meat and ingredients instead of raw fish. Here at Kimbop, they offer vegetables, chicken, beef and pork. You can also opt to have it keto style with egg instead of rice.
Worth a special mention that they use stainless steel chopsticks here, etched with fine patterns, instead of disposables!
There are some other options besides kimbap, such as chicken wings, fried dumplings, grilled meat rice set and ramyun. We didn't try the ramyun as, checking the other tables, the wavy noodles look like they are from an instant pack.
They were out of chicken wings, so we got the boneless ones, expecting breast but to our surprise were some juicy pieces of thighs with a crunchy shell in some addictive sauce. The Tteok-Bokki was delicious even if I don't care for rice cakes.
Compare to other Korean restaurants, their menu is definitely limited. Also, don't expect a table-side grilling experience, or an array of banchan unless you get a set meal. They have banchan, but you do have to order and pay for each.
Service is great, our waitress is really nice, our food comes out fast, and our water refilled frequently.
Kimbop is a nice addition to the Kendall dining scene!!
