We regularly get together with my mother-in-law on Sundays in the Uptown area and figured to branch out and see what else there was other than our usuals.
Funny enough, Kimchi Pop! has already been open for two years and we've already gone to some other restaurants nearby. Maybe I wrote it off since we have a Korean standby though farther away.
So we figured to give it a try for convenience. It's a counter order arrangement and you bus your own tables, but there is a self-serve choice of four banchan provided for dine-in and a hot/cold water station. Dine in is on real plates and utensils rather than disposable-ware.
We went with the kimbap ($13.99, spam +$3), stone bowl bibimbap (pork) - $15.99, soondubu (seafood) $14.50, and scallion pancake (seafood) - $12.99. Food is great and it was good to have the kimbap once with spam (thinking about another form of spam musubi, which is also on the menu). Stone bowl isn't going to be as hot to crisp rice, but I'm not sure that's a full star ding - so just go with regular bibimbap for $13.99. It still would have been good with another choice of filling without the surcharge.
Keep in mind there is a 4% non-cash surcharge and meter parking is relatively available (at least on a Saturday night). Portions and quality were good to balance to the price and convenience. You'd get more banchan elsewhere and maybe lower prices, but you'd probably have to drive farther and tip up for service.
Nice touch with dark chocolate choco pie at the end of the meal!
