Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay and won't go back. We were in town for a weekend at the end of a longer vacation. The pros are the location is central to lots of museums, the rooms were nice and comfortable, and the hotel is a beautiful historic building. The cons were they charged $113 a night for parking and bill it separately for each night. So, when we checked out we got a bill for $113 and then got another $113 charge on our card when we got home. We called and were told this is how they operate. It is $65 for parking plus $11.70 city parking tax, plus $32 guest amenity fee, plus guest amenity fee tax of $5.10. They know how to rip you off if you have a car. The other con was the noise. Kids running down the hall at 1:30 am and the woman in the next room was so loud we left the hotel at 3:30 am. We called to complain and they called her room but did nothing else to follow up on the problem. The hotel apologized but certainly didn't offer us any money back when we couldn't sleep. So, we don't recommend especially if you have a car.

Our time at the Kimpton Hotel was a wonderful treat. The staff were incredible and the room was luxurious. Its location cannot be beat- the middle of DC is an exciting place to stay. The unexpected amenities, including complimentary bicycles, umbrellas, and a daily Social Hour brought joy and delight. In true Kimpton fashion, I promptly received a text shortly after checking in. A staff member wanted to make sure we were pleased with our room and to let him know if we needed any assistance. To my surprise, I was greeted with a “welcome back” message- even though my previous stay was in 2017. To kindly remember us after that length of time was a wonderful experience. I’d give the hotel a perfect score, but there was a minor issue with an item we’ve accidentally left behind. We called and completed the ‘forgot my stuff’ online forms, but never received any follow-up from the hotel. Unfortunately, that lapse slightly mars an otherwise perfect experience. Regardless, I strongly and favorably recommend this hotel, but I advise all guest to triple-check your belongings before checking out.

Overall, a pretty good stay! The check-in process was very efficient and the guest service agent got me into my room quite quickly! The staff was also super responsive when I had packages delivered, and checked in throughout my stay (particular shoutouts to Kellon, Cecilie, and Daniel, but everyone was wonderful). The building itself is gorgeous and super convenient to CapitalOne Arena, the National Portrait Gallery, a lot of shopping, and metro stops as well (Gallery Place and Metro Center are about 5 mins away). I didn't get to take advantage of the wine hour, but it's always a nice touch, and the complimentary water is always appreciated on humid DC days!

What a stunning venue for weddings and events right in the heart of Washington, D.C.! As a photographer, I always have wonderful experiences working at Hotel Monaco. The space is elegant and full of character—perfect for capturing both intimate moments and lively celebrations. The hotel staff was incredibly generous and supportive throughout the day, from the getting-ready suite to the reception. Their professionalism and hospitality made our job smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend this venue for couples looking for a stylish and memorable wedding location!

Google
We’ve stayed at the Hotel Monaco when it was in Chicago many times and always loved it. Very eclectic but comfortable designs and a nice boutique hotel atmosphere. So I was thrilled when I discovered the Hotel Monaco has DC location! And we were not disappointed. The location can’t be beat. You’re close to just about everything in DC. The room was, again, eclectic in its design (looking at you, giant plaster lion head) but very comfy. We went in July and the A/C was very cold, thank god! Appreciated the free ice water at the front desk on hot days. And the free wine social hour from 5-6 pm every night. Also all the amazing restaurants in the area made going out for a meal a real treat! Now, it’s not perfect. They really need to update the tv in the room. Also, that’s probably the shallowest bathtub I’ve ever seen. But we’d definitely stay there again!

Terrible stay! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I frequently visit DC and recently stayed here. The hotel lobby and restaurant is the nicest part of the hotel. The room I was provided is on their first floor which is essentially the BASEMENT. It has an unbearable musty moldy smell. My room had “fake” windows…curtains to the ceiling but when you pull them back it’s a wall with a sliver of a window at the top. Again it’s the basement. I could have endured this but the SMELL WAS UNBEARABLE. I slept in a mask. If you have allergies again do not stay here and definitely do not allow them to give you a room in their first floor. Several guests complained. I requested on day one but was told they were booked. I called in the middle of the night and they said they would move me to animal room in the morning after I return from my day. Upon following up I was told they were completely booked again! (Note: Others report the same in previous posts) I would have switched hotels if knew this before hand and for sure if my stay was longer than two days. Overall disappointed. There are plenty of better hotels in the area. I will never stay here again nor any other IHG Hotel.

everything perfect except mini bar ref. there wasn't even water in the ref. seems like a waste of electricity and not best service to have some water available in the hot weather. otherwise it's a great hotel, comfortable and peaceful for a good sleep.

Google
The pros: This hotel has a beautiful exterior, and the location is fantastic. Museums and restaurants are a short walk away, and there is a metro stop close by as well. The cons: the hotel is quite old. The air conditioning can be a bit loud, and I was unable to consistently get hot water in my shower (at best it was warm, but it took a while to get to that) (this was less of a problem since I was visiting in the summer, when DC is hot and humid).

Yelp
Lovely hotel. Excellent service. Beautiful, unique decor. Great location, near lots of sights and restaurants. Right across from the Portrait Gallery. Recommended.

Yelp
Dear Dirty Habit/Hotel Monaco Management - I am writing to express my extreme frustration and disappointment regarding the valet service I encountered at Dirty Habit on Sun 8/11 @ 8/20pm EST. Upon arrival, the valet parking attendant informed me that the parking lot was "kinda full" but offered to give me his spot for $50. This interaction raised several concerns: 1. **Uncertainty About the Attendant's Legitimacy:** I was unsure whether this individual actually worked for the valet service. The lack of any formal identification or professionalism made me question if I was being targeted by a scammer. I could have easily handed my keys to someone who might not even be affiliated with the service, potentially risking the theft of my vehicle. 2. **Unethical and Unprofessional Behavior:** The suggestion to pay $50 for a parking spot left me questioning the integrity of your valet service. The entire interaction felt like an attempt to pocket cash unethically, rather than a legitimate offer from a professional service. Additionally, there was no clarity on the actual cost of valet parking, which further heightened my concerns. 3. **Lack of Courtesy and Problem-Solving:** Instead of being offered a proper solution, I was dismissively told to "go to a garage," without any directions or assistance on where to find one. There were no signs or warning otherwise that the valet parking lot was "kinda full." This showed a complete disregard for customer service and left me feeling stranded and unsupported. 4. **Perceived Discrimination:** As a Black male, I couldn't help but feel that the lack of assistance and professionalism I received was influenced by my race. The valet attendant, who appeared to be of Indian descent, seemed indifferent to my situation, which left me feeling discriminated against. To further exacerbate the situation, when I called Hotel Monaco to address the issue while parked outside the valet stand on Sun 8/11 @ 8/22pm EST, I was told to "speak directly with the valet service manager, as it is a separate entity from the hotel." I asked how do I even contact the manager, to which the hotel associate took my name and number. This response is unacceptable, as the hotel and restaurant have a responsibility to ensure that any contracted service maintains the same standards of professionalism and customer care that guests would expect from the hotel itself. This experience has left me questioning whether I can trust Dirty Habit or Hotel Monaco with my business in the future. I hope that you take this feedback seriously and address these issues promptly to prevent other guests from experiencing a similar situation.

Yelp
Staff are friendly. Try to help as soon as they know you an issue. There is restaurant in the back. In the evening they have a small happy hour. Room was small, I think it was the king essential. No microwave folks so if you plan a week just know NO microwave. Room was on the small side and did have a nispresso coffee maker. Did I spell that right? No drawers place things. There is one big credenza and a work table. Was happy house keeping came everyday, been in places they don't. Breakfast was good but expensive. The restaurant is very nice Room while small was comfortable.

Yelp
This is a top notch IHG property! Such a unique building. The decor is just spectacular, so classy. We made it with 5 minutes to spare to take advantage of their daily wine hour. The server was even so kind to give us 2 glasses since we got there so late. The location is easy to get to, with valet parking. Walking a distance to many attractions. The building was the first Post office of Washington DC, I am guessing the rooms were offices, high ceilings. We were upgraded to a King Premier room. Kimptons are always gracious to Spire members. The room was just amazing, a view of the courtyard. Huge TV, comfy bed. Our fridge did not work but that was ok. They do have a restaurant on the premise, we did try to order breakfast but their system did not work, so we went elsewhere. This might be new favorite DC hotel

Yelp
The location is awesome if you want to walk to the mall and see the Washington Monument and walk all the way down to Lincoln Memorial and swing by the White House. This hotel happens to be right across the street from the national portrait gallery. It is just a great location for any or first time in Washington DC, like myself. The room was very comfortable. Happened to have a room at the end of a very long hallway which was very quiet and beds were comfortable. I didn't even think about the pillows or the mattress so I must've been comfortable. I feel like I had a good sleep . The other bonus of this hotel is the room service is so good you kind of almost don't even ever have to leave, anytime of day, and they deliver the food really quickly . Should you get out, there is a great coffee place just one block away and excellent food of many varieties all around you. The staff here is super friendly, cordial and well dressed. Even at 3:45am when I arrived. They have the usual Kimpton happy hour at this place. It was wine and snacks; goldfish, dried fruit, pretzels, etc. which is nice after a day of walking around. Although, my favorite Kimpton is still the San Francisco one, for having warm cookies and milk, but wine and snacks is great too. I would definitely consider staying here again, everything was wonderful!

Yelp
Checked into this IHG property today. Great area, lots to do. Had high hopes, but will not return. Front desk reception was awkward and uncomfortable. Corridors and room have a dank, musty smell that suggests management neglect. Upgraded to an expensive suite, but regret it now. Don't feel the carpet is clean so we called down for slippers. We were told that the hotel is out of them, can you believe that? How does that happen in a high end facility? Later, a staffer brings up a pair, with attitude! Room phone doesn't work. Call the desk to report it, but no one shows up. Shall I go on? Staying in an expensive hotel shouldn't make you feel like you are a burden. Certainly not at these prices!

Yelp
What a beautiful hotel in the nation's capital. Honestly, every Kimpton Hotel Monaco is always tastefully done and this one does not disappoint. Unfortunately, this was not for a stay, but for an event. I cannot speak of the rooms within, but I can speak to the customer service and overall welcoming atmosphere of this place. The only downfall that I can see here is the sluggish elevator speeds and lack of more than one car per elevator tower. It is usually faster to take the winding staircases rather than wait for the elevator. In fact, I know this as I had pushed the button for the elevator and waited a few minutes for it to never show up. I took the stairs up and ended up beating the elevator to my floor. Another thing was the location of the restrooms for the even spaces. I'm not sure if they are called ballrooms or not, but to use the restrooms in this space takes a bit of a trek. The event spaces in here are quite accommodating and spacious. They are able to configure the space however you need it to be used for. Their F&B can be customized for your event as well. Overall, beautiful building, great customer service, and a welcoming environment for any event you might think about planning.

Yelp
If you've ever stayed at a Kimpton Hotel, you're probably aware of their complimentary wine/beer hour because you're an incorrigible drunk, and you sniff out free alcohol everywhere you go. When I checked in at the Monaco, I knew it was going to be a good stay when my friend at the front desk offered me beer and/or wine because I missed the hour, and I must be devastated. When I was also upgraded to a suite because of my clear VIP status, I knew I'd come home. Plus, the place is beautiful. High ceilings, gorgeous historic moulding, a fun Shining vibe in the quiet hallways, and creepy stone heads all over my room...I'm into it. But even though this is obviously an updated old building, they've updated the right things: there are still outlets in the nightstand next to my head, good wi-fi, and the shower works wonderfully. I don't know what genius decided to hang towels in the back of it with a showerhead that doesn't tilt downward, but that seems like a housekeeping issue. This hotel is everything I need (including a great location for me personally, and probably anyone who wants to be downtown - lots of restaurants and more nearby), and nothing I don't. Except for the lion head over the bed. I didn't think I needed it until I stayed here, and now I'm going to have to have one everywhere I go. Sucks for the next hotel I stay at that gets slammed for the lack of lion head.

Yelp
There are plenty of historic hotels in DC -- Hay-Adams, The Willard, The Jefferson, The Watergate, etc. This was our first time staying at Kimpton Monaco DC, aka DC's original General Post Office. Thank you Max, Diondraye & Elena for your gracious hospitality! We truly appreciate it! =D 1 night (Sat), 2BR Majestic Suite #441/443/445 Status: Diamond Elite + Ambassador ~1,500 sqft, (3) separate entrances, (3) full baths ... hide-n-seek was really FUN! Cash price: ~$850/night (incl taxes/fees) (1) king, (1) queen, (1) queen sofabed (3) TVs, (2) mini-fridges, large L-sofa Dining table for 6 bathroom #1: large soaking tub + shower booth bathroom #2: shower/tub combo bathroom #3: shower/tub combo No early check-in available (room occupied prior night) 4pm late checkout (granted!) Def one of the more popular spots in DC, close to museums (Nat'l Portrait Gallery, Natural History, Hirshhorn), Capital One Arena, Chinatown, Metro Center, etc. Do not expect to find street parking right away unless you're used to winning the lottery. It always takes me a while. And every time I leave my spot, there are always multiple cars ready to attack. Meters ($2.75/hr) on Sat go until 10pm. Sun free. Save yourself the headache and use SpotHero to find cheap garages/lots.

Yelp
Outstanding property. The hosts are always super friendly and there's even a nice wine hour in the lobby on the weekend.

Yelp
Kiera, front desk supervisor, was the best part of our stay. She wrote the generic welcome note and was also the kindest person we encountered during the short stay. She asked if everything was okay with the stay. I told her about the tub stopper not working in the suite we were in. Was bummed to discover the tub was unusable because it wouldn't stay filled. One of my favorite parts about Kimpton's are their beautiful spa suites. This one is worn and torn. Staff at check in weren't welcoming nor friendly. Much has changed in ten years. I'll choose one of the other DC Kimpton's next time.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, if you're in the heart of DC you have to stay here! The most amazing staff out of any hotel. Did you forget something? No worries, John will take care of it. Need help navigating a new city? No worries, John will take care of you. The most respectful and responsive staff from anywhere I have stayed. I cannot say enough about this place. It's worth the sometimes more expensive choice for the type of treatment they provide.

Dree F.

Yelp
The service was very good. Front desk staff was responsive, helpful and friendly. Great location. The room was small and oddly configured, and I was annoyed that there was absolutely no place to put my folded clothes (zero dressers or shelves -- just a closet to hang things). I would have appreciated a dresser with drawers. But the room was pretty quiet, thankfully. This hotel is decorated in such an ugly decor. The lobby is an eyesore of clashing patterns and colors, and the rooms are the same way. I wish it would be redecorated with some taste. About 10 years ago, it looked great. It got tacky somewhere down the line. The hideous clashing decor that gives one a headache, the tacky animal print robes in the closet, and tacky name for the restaurant (Dirty Habit). I would like to see a bit more elegance.

Yelp
BEWARE OF THIS HOTEL!!! 10 DAYS after we checked out, we received a random $400+ charge (we were all paid up when we left). They never said they were keeping our CC on file!?!?! Upon calling, we were notified that it was for a deep cleaning charge but were told there is no other info available??? My husband & i are extremely respectful, & only stayed 1 short night... Were barely in the room in fact, other than to shower & sleep! The room was pretty gross upon arrival (hair in the shower, hand marks all over windows) but i did not want to be a bother. We have been trying to reach housekeeping but cannot get anyone to answer us!!

Yelp
Won a two day stay here from Charity Buzz. A beautifully done repurposed building from an 1800's era Post Office to a modern hotel. Centrally located in Washington D.C., it's just across the street from the Capital One Arena. Coffee and tea service in the lobby from 6:00am to 10:00am. Wine and beer every night from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, so make your dinner reservations at the area restaurants for 6:15pm. They have a fitness center. Our room was spacious, the room thermostat worked, the bed was comfortable and the shower pressure was good. All the hotel employees were pleasant and friendly. I was going to give four stars, but..... Upon check in, I asked if the bill was already covered. They said yes, we just need a credit card from you for any incidentals. Fine. Now, an incidental to me is room service, or pay per view TV, or if I do a Rolling Stones and throw the TV out the window. That's an incidental. So upon checkout, I ask if there was anything charged to my card. Why yes, they said, a "Guest Amenity Fee" of $30 plus tax for each night. WTF. I said that fee should have been added and disclosed upfront, not upon leaving. Since they had my credit card information, they still charged it. And I will fight it through my credit card company and Charity Buzz. So, they only get one star due to aggravation over a bullshit fee.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere especially if you want to sleep. Loud parties in the courtyard all weekend and all night long. Horrible beds, horrible service. I have had better nights sleep at a budget hotel. This place used to be nice but not anymore!! Book elsewhere, you will be happy that you did!!!

Yelp
Plus: Instagram worthy lobby, warm staff, nice bed, quiet and location made fora comfortable stay. Could be better: can see and feel it isn't a newly built despite the modern fixtures, but that can also be its charm Building was built in 1839. Was once the General Post Office & Tariff Commission. Was renovated and opened in 2002 but has kept many original features throughout like wide hallways, tall ceilings, the original wood & cast iron windows and the marble & cast iron staircases. Check the hotel website for more original features that can be found. Centrally located walking distance to many restaurants, Chinatown, The Mall & museums. Almost equidistant between The White House and The Capitol Drinks -Daily Wine Hour in the lobby. We were was able to have a glass in the lobby before dinner. -Did Happy Hour at the on-site restaurant The Dirty Habit (3*) -Ask the front desk if they have NightCap Located -on F St NW between 8 & 7th St NW -couple of blocks S or Chinatown, few blocks just N of The Mall and museums, ~6 blocks NE of The Capitol

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here on Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. John did everything he could to ensure our celebration was memorable including upgrading us to the Mediterranean suite and giving us two glasses of champagne while we waited for our suite to be ready. He even asked us how the DC United game was after we got back for the evening. The suite was very clean and nicely laid out. The stand-alone tub was beautiful and the bed was comfy. We highly recommend this hotel!

Yelp
The hotel staff here have had to be the worst I have ever encountered. They provided no hospitality, reassurance or any solutions to the issues. Basically where my company was supposed to pay the bill I ended up having to invoice for it, which fine whatever it it came as a surprise and they didn't care to help resolve the issue or find out why things had changed. Cool I took care of it, and when I got home, they had run my card again, and told me over the phone laughing that they didn't see the charge on their end. So I confirmed with my bank that it was in fact a charge coming from them and would be filing a dispute and they finally reversed the charge. I would recommend staying from this hotel. One night the management was just walking through talking so loud, I poked my head out to ask the guests if they could keep it down. But they had hotel name tags.

Yelp
Gorgeous, great customer service, solid rooms, great location, tunes and happy hour in the afternoon, and home to the restaurant Dirty Habit. What else could you need?

Yelp
Went here for evening happy hour. The hotel is located in Penn quarter. The hotel is located near various museum which I loved. The national portrait museum and and Ford theatre are within walk distance. When you enter the hotel the green lobby catches your attention, very elegant, tranquil and very beautiful. You greeted I. The entrance by the door personnel and guided to the lobby for check in. You can do valet parking or street parking which was more convenient for me. I went to the happy hour area which can be elegant it can a little loud if trying to have a conversation. The hotel has various area which are worth to see the spiral staircase and the many decorative hallway throughout the hotel. The hotel was a general post office building and right now is one of the historic hotel in Washington DC.

Yelp
Utter insanity. It's 12:44AM and music has been thumping through my window all night. There is a DJ party in the courtyard. Multiple calls to front desk unanswered. There is absolutely no way to sleep after a long day of travel and meetings. No way to rest ahead of a full day of meetings tomorrow. The rooms are shabby and unkempt. What an absolutely disgusting way to run a hotel. It is an unfathomable way to treat guests. Never been to a hotel where the front desk doesn't bother to pick up. You can tell from the 5 star yelp elite reviews that Yelp elites have no credibility and their reviews are clearly compromised.

K D.

Yelp
I would never stay at this hotel. In fact I did not. I checked out just as fast as I checked in. I had reserved a king room months in advance. When I checked in at 10:30pm, they sent me to a room in the basement. A ROOM WITH NO WINDOWS! Is that even legal? The room was tiny and smelled like must and mold. It also had NO WINDOWS! When I went back to the front desk to complain, the woman at the desk was so rude. She passed me off to someone else as if I was burdening her. The manager I spoke to was adamant that was the only room they had. they were completely sold out. Yet, they found me another room...double the size. But, also IN THE BASEMENT. The smell of must and mold in the room was so overpowering. I left. Management couldn't have cared either way if I stayed or went. The AC by Marriot down the street near the convention center is 100x better. Clean, airy and kind staff. Would never stay at the Kimpton.

Yelp
My girlfriend and her boss stayed here for a conference a couple weeks ago and told me that even tho the bedframe was a little squeaky and the shower cramped, I had to check it out. Sure enough, the place was incredible. Spacious hallways and a fitness center with proper equipment to get some assisted pull-ups in. Close enough to a TJ Maxx and they served free coffee in the lobby.

Yelp
This hotel is located across the street from the Portrait Gallery. The lobby is really cool. There are unique decorations. The couches are comfy. The hotel is pet friendly. There is even a dog bed by the front desk. Dirty Habit is on the ground level, past the front desk.

Mike C.

Yelp
I ordered breakfast which was 2 eggs with toast and bacon and potatoes with a regular coffee ... I had to send the eggs back because they were undercooked and the bread was barely toasted ... Total price - $ 52.75 Totally inflated prices and poor quality food. Do not eat breakfast at Monaco !

Anna M.

Yelp
I stayed at the Kimpton Monaco recently, and I was deeply disappointed by the first room I was provided. It was in the basement, with a corner of a "window" some 2-3 feet over my head that I think looked into the bar (I couldn't tell because it was too high but I could hear noise). It felt like a coffin. When I asked to switch to another room immediately, I was told there were no other rooms, so I paid over $300 to sleep in a bunker that night. The next morning I had to re-pack all of my things in order to change rooms, which was incredibly inconvenient. The second room was lovely, and I appreciate the staff's friendliness, but part of my stay was ruined by having to stay in a dark, dreary, fully-underground room.

Yelp
Location was perfect. That unfortunately was the only reason I'm giving a 2 star rating. The hotel itself is old and smells like dirty basement mold. No signs Every-time I left my room it was a maze. I went to the lobby to buy 2 bottles of orange juice, there is no gift shop so the front desk pointed to the restaurant "Dirty Habit" now I don't mind paying above market price for convenience but $23.87 for (2) two cups of orange juice is absurd. I looked at this hostess and said you kidding right I said 2 cups. I couldn't do it I walked out of the hotel in my shorts in November went to Dunkin Donuts across the street bought three bottles of orange juice a plain bagel and a donut for $11.89. Shame on Dirty Habit for abusing hotel guests and shame on Kimpton for allowing this by not have a gift shop available for their guests. #DunkinDonut #KimptonHotels #DirtyHabit #Opentable #Yelp

Yelp
If you're looking for a party this is the place. If you want a nice place to lay your head down after checking out all the museums, I'd look elsewhere. They had a party until 2am that was shaking the glass in our room on a Wednesday night. The room was small and the bathroom was kind of just thrown in the middle of it. Not what I expected at all from a $700+/night hotel! We ended up checking out after the 2am party and headed to a different hotel. I would recommend you do the same!

Yelp
What a beautiful historical hotel located in downtown DC near China Town. This hotel is a part of DCs history. It is over 200 years old. It started off as a Post Office in its infancy. This modern-chic hotel creates quite the ambiance for entertaining and relaxation. I happen to be there meeting some baddies in town but I would definitely stay there if i was going to be visiting DC.

Yelp
I'm always nervous about staying at a boutique hotel because you never what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised. Complimentary glass of wine at check in prior to 5 PM. Free coffee and tea at breakfast time. Only complaint: rooms are a little smaller than expected with the hotel having total of 4 floors. TIP: Request a room on the 3rd or 4th floor. Lobby is on 2nd floor. Rooms on the 1st floor don't have windows which make the small rooms feel even more claustrophobic. TIP: Park at the iparkit parking garage on 616 E. St Don't use their valet parking which is $54 per night. There are plenty of parking garages within walking distance that cost $35 per night with free in and out access prior to 11 PM. Download iparkit app to use a $5 off coupon code. You can reserve your spot in advance and you'll get a scan code to get in and out of the parking garage. TIP: Check out the hotel bar at night especially the outdoor fire pit

Yelp
We were spending a weekend in DC and booked this hotel through expedia. This is going to sound strange, but one of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel was the bathroom. I knew we were going to be doing a LOT of walking in DC, and was so excited to be able to soak in the tub at the end of the day. Yah...no. As you can see from the photo, the bathroom looked NOTHING like what was in the photos when we booked the room. The tub was old. Really old. So old that the stopper didn't even work properly. I had to press and twist the stopper until finally I got it to stay down. And it gets even better...there is no hot water tonight. I wanted to soak my feet because they are killing me from over 10 miles of walking, and I couldn't even do that. The only reason for the 2nd star is that houskeeping and room service employees are very nice. Front desk employee on the night we checked in was quite rude. Overall, I'm not impressed.

Yelp
So our check in process and the staff here were all great and wonderful. Thing is- in the middle of the night someone entered into our room... it was around 2:45ish AM when we woke up to someone who had a key to our room. I obviously screamed and the person left and closed the door without saying anything. We called the front desk after 5 mins (we were trying to collect ourselves after the brief freak out) and notified them that someone entered into our room. The front desk said they'll send someone up- about 15 mins or so later, no one came so we called again and they said they had sent security to check it out but he said he'll come up personally. After 2 mins or so, the front desk arrived and we explained the situation to him and he assured us that he can switch our rooms and deactivate all the keys. Since it was in the middle of the night, we chose to just stay in the room but made sure we bolted the door. In the morning we reached a call and it was the front desk notifying us that bc our room was connected to another room- they were going to make sure to lock the connecting room. However, the unknown person entered our front door with a key and not the connecting door. Not sure if it was a hotel employee that acted in bad faith or if there's some serious security issues at the hotel/key issues but it was very scary. Of course, they handled it the best they can and it was more so we were confused as to what happened and hope that it wasn't going to happen to someone else in the future. Besides that, everyone was extremely friendly and the staff was friendly and hotel was very clean. Great place to stay with pets!

Yelp
I absolutely loved my stay here! I want to give a huge shout out to Belinda Randall. She is amazing! I literally live in hotels and travel nation wide. So, when someone stands out enough for me to write a review it's because it's above and beyond the normal. Belinda was so warm and genuine at the front desk. Checking in was great, I asked some questions and she was so helpful and gave me the real, real of some food spots. I appreciate that lol. I was there for work and the days that I came back from a long, hard days work, she'd ask "how is my event going?" I was just surprised she remembered my name, let alone ask about the event. It's these little things that make a hotel feel like home for travelers like me. The Kimpton, Manaco hotel DC, please recognize you have a diamond on your team and her name is Belinda Randall! The rooms where awesome! The decor is beautiful and the food was delicious. I will be back with my entire team next year.

Yelp
Stayed from 6-2-21 through 6-5-21 and LOVED IT! As a frequent traveler, I feel that I look at hotels a bit different. This location is the greatest Kimpton I've been to. My room on floor 2 was clean & palatial. The view was comfortably above the sidewalk. The Smithsonian is across the street. There's excellent food in every direction. The staff is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Yelp
I had a terrible experience on my first night. I was given a room in the basement without any windows. They had curtains and when you opened them it was just cardboard. No basement window at all. I was suffocating. It took me over 4 calls and a visit to the front desk to be able to get a room on the first floor. I'm very disappointed that there was a room available but they didn't offer it to me until I asked to be sent to another property to a normal room with a window.

Yelp
I stayed at Kimpton Monaco Washington DC 3 years ago during the Cherry Blossom Festival. I loved the hotel. The service, amenities were amazing. Loved the full size Milton Brown Shampoo, Conditioner and shower gel bottles ( I didn't have to pack toiletries) I live in NYC and I love visiting DC. I arrived May 13-15 2022 for Police Memorial Week. I booked the premier King Room. I requested it to be close to elevator if possible The picture showed the same room I stayed in 3 years ago. It had a king size bed and two chairs which were the same as in lobby photos. When I checked in after a long drive from NYC I saw they had a water dispenser w infused fruit on side of main reception desk I had to lean dispenser in order to get half of cup of water. I was parched after being on the road so long. The front desk attendant who was two feet away from never offered to have it refilled or offer me a cup of water. I'm not one to make a fuss so I let it go. I then proceeded to my room 302 when I saw that it was a very small room. Let me explain small : enough room to walk around the bed and directly to bathroom. No chairs other than a desk chair which was was hidden by a very small desk in the outside corner of the bathroom. So I called hotel from the IHG app and girl told me I was in a standard room not the premier room. She instructed me to go down to the front desk. So I did. The lady at the front desk told me that in fact that was the room I booked and would have to speak to the person that told me otherwise. I said ok. I figured maybe I didn't read the fine lines or something. So I re checked. The pictures for the room advertised the room having two chairs. I let it go. I asked about the breakfast included with my reservation. The front desk lady said yes I was entitled to breakfast costing 25$. After that amount I was responsible for additional cost. I said ok. I arrived at check in time on Friday May 13 3 pm. Saturday morning I called the front desk to find out what time was breakfast being served until. The lady advised until 11am. It was 9:45 am so I headed downstairs to the restaurant where I was greeted by a young male Hispanic w glasses a young Hispanic girl w red dyed hair color ( red as in the color red. No issues w that I'm stating it for identifying purposes). They asked if I had a reservation I said no. I did tell them I called front desk and was told breakfast was being served. I told them my hotel stay included breakfast The young man told me that was only valid Monday thru Friday. That was never stated on reservation or By front desk lady. I said I would do the lunch. The red haired girl took us to last section of restaurant where the second bad was located. (Note : there were many empty tables in front part of restaurant). We sat down at last table by back wall. There were several people at the bar being served. After 15 minutes waiting for a server I politely asked bartender if there was anyone that could serve us. She stated that she could not believe we were sat at end She spoke to a co worker and asked me to go back to table and they would have a server come over. We waited another 15 minutes no one ever came. At that point I was extremely annoyed and decided we would go to smiths for breakfast which is diagonal to hotel On the way out we saw the young man and red haired girl My friend told them how long we waited and were never served and that it wasn't cool. Both the young man and girl looked at eachother and laughed. That was EXTREMELY insulting. I get it, they're young. But when I'm paying the price I did for my stay I expect better service. It was a total disappointment and embarrassment since I had bragged about the Kimptom Monaco to my friends about my previous stay. to skimp on shower gel, body lotion , towels etc. Was horrible. I also have to mention that room 301 put out 2 dirty plates outside their door which I noticed Saturday morning and they were still there when I checked out on Sunday. I'm sure hotel management can verify this by looking at their cameras. I also used wine glasses in the room for sangria that I brought in. The glasses were never cleaned and housekeeping left them by bathroom sink still dirty. So sad to have to say that I advise you not to stay at this hotel. I'm not one to ever leave reviews but this was just an awful stay and I'm a very easy to please person. I take reviews with a grain of salt and give restaurants and hotels a chance because people can be picky. I'm not picky. But sadly I could have stayed at a holiday inn and gotten better service than what I did at this stay. I am hoping the hotel manager reads my review and can make changes for future guests. As for me I will NEVER stay here

Yelp
Luxury and location! Everything you would expect from a Kimpton hotel. Two minutes to metro transit station and capital one arena. Half a mile walk to the national mall . Wow! The hotel Monaco has a lot of history engulfed in these walls dating back to the civil war and my personal favorite President Abraham Lincoln. It was once a post office that got totally revamped into this luxurious hotel today. I recommend room # 311 because after a full day of enjoying the national mall and the Awesome Bible Museum you will want to have plenty of room to relax and unwind. The service is Awesome here as well. When you go to Washington DC go Monaco! Makes some great memories as we did. Enjoy! God Bless all my fellow travelers.

Yelp
Where's the value? This is a beautiful hotel. Incredible repurposing of an old post office in the heart of DC's Penn Quarter. You cannot fault the look of the place. The decor is nice as are the rooms - and the high ceilings are an added bonus. I would advise anyone thinking of booking a room here, however, to just sit in the lounge and think about these things very carefully before you do: * Expensive - You will pay at least $400 per night to stay here. For that kind of money, you would expect to be blown away with service. And you will be, but not in a good way. * First Impression- Checking in: no bellman to help take the bags to the room. And the valet was missing. When I asked the front desk clerk to switch payment from my debit card to a credit card, she said she couldn't because I had used a third party to book the room. When I explained that I had gone to their site to book, she responded in a way that made it clear she thought I was stupid. *City View - Really? This is false advertising. To Kimpton, City View means a room on the outside perimeter with a view of the street as opposed to rooms on the inside with views of the courtyard. To people, a City View means an upper floor with an actual view of the city, not a room at an elevation where you have to triple check the curtain is shut so as not to give tourists and panhandlers a free show. *Restaurant - DO NOT PATRONIZE!!! The food isn't bad and the decor, as with the rest of the hotel, is nice. But, minimum drink price is $20. AND THERE IS A MANDATORY SERVICE CHARGE OF 20% REGARDLESS OF THE SERVICE. And it was mixed, ranging from adequate to nonexistent. Barely meriting 20% in one case and 10% in another. Breakfast ran over $100 dollars! Coffee (which was terrible) was $7. Bowl of about 10 berries - $15. You don't expect cheap in a nice hotel, but come on. Give use some quality for the premium prices! Oh, and last call was at 10 on a Thursday night? This is in the District's entertainment quarter not to mention that DC is one of the nation's largest cities and tells everyone how important it is. You can keep the bar open later. Can't find employees? Pay more. Clearly you have the income to afford it. *Facilities Fee - The biggest insult of all is this hidden fee. When I checked out they told me about it. I asked them what it covered, told them I didn't avail myself of the facilities and they waived it. But here's what it covers: - When you check in they offer you (not us mind you) "free" bottled water. - Every evening there is a "free" happy hour (wine only) - There is "free" coffee in the lobby. It's promoted as free anyway. But no, the facilities fee covers it. Really? Have you ever heard of hospitality? It's not hospitable if you lie about it! The only circumstance under which we would stay here again is on an expense account. Unless you can get someone else to pay your way, I highly recommend you not stay here. Come on Kimpton. Your shameless bait and switch on the facilities fee, the poor service and your phony description of your rooms should be beneath you. For the kind of money you are charging, an enjoyable, hassle free experience with good attentive service is the least one can expect. DO NOT STAY HERE!

Yelp
This place has plummeted downhill!!! It used to be nice, but not anymore!! NOT up to Kimpton standards!!!! They have a loud party going on late at night and won't do anything about it. I complained and was basically told by the front desk to go to hell. This place is trashy and you couldn't pay me to stay here again. Terrible service and gross rooms!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this hotel and I do except for the mold smells if you get a room on the first floor. We had a work event and we're out all day or I would have asked to switch rooms earlier. So it is my fault for waiting and It was past hours when I called the front desk to ask for some fabreeze to help and they told me nothing could be done until 7 am. Now I'm here coughing with complete regret. The front desk said they'd never heard of this complaint before but it's clear if you read reviews this isn't the first mention of a musty mold smell. I did visit a friends room on the third floor and this was not the problem. I would just highly suggest that you do not get a room on the 1st floor. Other than that and the fact that nothing can be done and I'm hoping my throat won't be too I would recommend this hotel.

Yelp
If you like boutique hotels, this is a spot for you. Eclectic style, service with a personal touch but not too personal. Kind staff from valet to front desk to housekeeping. Very comfortable, clean, spacious spot in Penn Quarter.

Yelp
Such a lovely oasis in a bustling city. I am a massive U2 fan. Saw them last year during the Joshua Tree 2017 tour at FedEx field. It was a great show but we had to stay at a hotel that, let's just say, was less than luxurious. So this year, after getting my presale code and stalking Ticketmaster to get my premium (and ridiculously expensive) tickets, I immediately scoured the area to find the closest, nicest, reasonably priced hotel. I've stayed at Kimpton hotels on the West Coast and always felt like I was relaxed and taken care of, so when I saw a Kimpton right across the street, I was elated. The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is an older hotel, but it is beautifully maintained. From the moment you walk in you're greeted with comfort and style. The lobby is small, but has so many interesting pieces of art. After we had lunch in the Dirty Habit restaurant, my husband and I parked in the lobby for some people watching and iced tea. The Kimpton chain is good about providing free coffee in the morning, iced tea and water in the afternoon and happy hour at 5 p.m. in the lobby. They know how to make you feel at home. While our room was small (think European hotel), it was well appointed and comfortable. It's funny, when we were driving up, we talked about maybe visiting one of the nearby sites, but ended up spending an entirely relaxing and much-needed afternoon at the hotel. Definitely check out the outdoor courtyard and try the Dirty Habit for brunch, lunch, dinner or a drink. So glad I booked the Kimpton Monaco and glad I booked early. When I went back online later, the hotel was sold out.

Yelp
We chose a beautiful, spacious room for Valentine's Day. The room was clean, and the front desk was very helpful with any questions we had. They even gave out roses to guest, even though I didn't receive one. It's pricey and the rooms could use a paint job ,but it was still a very luxurious place to stay. It's so worth it.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Kimpton hotels but this is definitely the worst one I've ever been to. It has a really good location and is in a historic building in the Penn Square neighborhood that's adjacent to Chinatown. Let's start with the cons: 1. There's only one common area bathroom which is on the third floor. That means everybody from the restaurant inside the hotel (the Dirty Habit) has to take the elevator up to the third-floor or the stairs and then stumble all the way down to these bathrooms. If your room is 317 or up then you will be affected by this noise. There is another bathroom on the top floor in the Tokyo room but it's only open to people who rent out that room. 2. This also means that if you rent out the Athens room which is on the fourth floor for a corporate event (or wedding) then all of your guests have to go down to floor to use the restroom which means that you need to plan to have longer breaks than you would normally have. 3. Peeling lead based paint throughout hotel 4. Rooms in disrepair 5. Rooms smell mildewy 6. windows sealed shut in rooms so no air flow 7. The coffee station they put out in the lobby of the hotel is moved every morning so you have to find it 8. The staff does not want to be here AT ALL. Call the front desk and ask a question to see what I mean Pros are really all the Kimpton pros but here goes: 1. Good mini bar in room in the fridge 2. Free coffee and tea in lobby 3. Free bike rentals 4. Free wine and beer happy hour 5. Pets stay free 6. Room service Not recommended.

Yelp
Pros: Location Cons: The room we stayed in was lower level - basically a basement room with a window view of the bushes above. Felt like we were in a cave. The room smelled of dirt and mold/mildew, carpet damp and the air was either too cold or too warm. The moisture level with A/C on was gross - tried turning on heat to take dampness out of the air - also humid and gross. Overpriced Room - 2 double, $500 (rm rate, Tx, etc) with additional $65 Valet fee - We could have stayed at any hotel and just Ubered our way around. I most definitely would not recommend this hotel for someone with allergies or asthma. The air quality needs to be addressed. (I just now read other reviews saying the same, I should have checked reviews before my stay). We accepted to stay at the lower level because I am a light sleeper, the hotel desk clerk let us know the lower level would be more quiet. (Upper rooms street noise and also there is a restaurant/catering floors with more noise). Note: When we left the hotel - someone was smoking weed outside the entrance. There are better options. Old building shouldn't mean poor air quality. I will never stay at this hotel again.

Yelp
Definitely recommend. Great location great space unique in presentation everyone was super friendly and great customer service at all times. Rooms were small but clean well maintained and cute. Close to capital one arena, many landmarks, metro, for business and leisure. Would stay again.

Yelp
Loved idea of restored historic building. BUT Noisy, inefficient, a bit down at the heels. Check in at 3:15, room not ready for another 15 ( and inattentive staff at front desk) In town on business, early to bed early to rise. Except: thumping music in the courtyard. Weeknight, but Bar music going at 7 when I return so no recharge and quiet after a long day. When I called down after 10, the front desk person said they turn it down later. When? "Maybe 10:30?" Nope. Same on night 2. The safe is on floor in dark closet. There are no towel racks in bathroom. The tv is skewed too high and to one side so kink neck to view. Coffee maker is on request. On bright side the shower pressure is excellent. I'd say: may be fine for a Caps game or other partying on the town gig-- but serious business? Nah.

Yelp
Lovely experience consistently-from the time you enter the lobby, walk down the long halls and enter your heigh ceiling freshly scented room. A DC favorite for me when I travel. Within walking distance of delicious restaurants and the Metro is close. Highly recommend to anyone coming to the area business or personal.
